About Carnival Dream
Live the dream on Carnival Cruise Line's 130,000-ton, 3,690-guest Carnival Dream. Exciting amenities and activities, a host of enticing dining choices and spacious accommodations make her a perfect choice for a multigenerational cruise vacation. Stroll along the promenade, a 20-foot wide outdoor walkway with an outdoor seating area that opens up to one of the ship's highlights — Ocean Plaza, filled with live music, dancing, bars, and a variety of food venues.
Highlights also include the adults-only, outdoor two-level Serenity area for a delightful retreat where you can melt your cares away. Start the day with a dip in the Thalassotherapy pool followed by a massage at the Cloud 9 Spa that will leave you feeling new and rejuvenated. Find a favorite souvenir at the boutiques and browse the duty-free shops. Soak up the sun at three swimming pools and delight your senses in whirlpools that extend over the side of the ship providing unforgettable views. Thrills galore away at the WaterWorks aqua park with an exhilarating four-deck spiral slide.
Family-friendly throughout, Carnival Dream offers Camp Ocean, where kids ages 2 to 11 are kept busy with lots of fun ocean-themed activities and entertainment designed just for them according to age. "Seuss at Sea" and the character parade will give ear to ear smiles.
Bring your appetite because out-of-this-world cuisine is served on Carnival Dream, which boasts a myriad of fabulous dining choices , including casual, formal and al fresco options. International dishes and American favorites are served at the two-level main dining rooms, Crimson and Scarlet, where you can dine in beautiful settings. Head to the popular Lido restaurant called The Gathering, which features pizza, burrito and pasta stations, a New York-style deli, Indian Tandoor, Mongolian Wok and more. Classic steakhouse fare is offered at The Chef's Art and savory delicious sushi is offered at Wasabi. Convenient room service is also available 24/7.
Make yourself at home in spacious and comfortable accommodations — many with ocean views and balconies. Special "cove balcony" staterooms offer "up-close" sea views and more interior space. Guests in Cloud 9 Spa staterooms and suites have additional in-room, spa-related amenities, as well as a soothing and relaxing spa theme.
Enjoy conversation and your favorite drink with friends at various fun lounges and watering holes, such as the popular RedFrog Rum Bar, where you can try Carnival's very own ThristyFrog Red Beer. Other chic venues include the always popular BlueIguana Tequila Bar and Sam's Piano Bar where you can hear your favorite tunes. Dance at the popular Liquid Nightclub and watch a show at Ovation, the main lounge. Try your luck at the aptly named Jackpot Casino. You will be dancing in your seat at Playlist Productions and watch a movie outdoors at the huge screen at the Carnival Seaside Theater. Sing your heart out at The Song Karaoke bar and settle in for a delightful night under the stars at Dive-in Movies where blockbuster films are shown on an immense poolside screen. Let your dreams come true on the Carnival Dream.

Turn your special vacation in the direction of delicious — book a table for an unforgettably delectable evening at the Steakhouse. Our menu features mouthwatering premium cuts of beef cooked to your exact specifications, as well as a fantastic selection of seafood, entrées, gourmet appetizers and an extensive wine list. The atmosphere pairs remarkably well with — and perhaps even enhances — the culinary creations of our gourmet chefs.
Pizzeria Del Capitano
On Carnival ships, the captain tends to be kind of a big deal — almost a celebrity. On a few select ships, they’ve even got their own pizza kitchen. The best part? Pizzeria del Capitano is open to everyone, 24 hours a day! And since our captains tend to be Italian, you know the quality of the ingredients truly pass muster. (Sorry, nautical pun.) Hand-tossed dough, made from imported Italian flour, plus fresh mozzarella form a solid base, and a choice of toppings put the finishing touches on this piping hot, fresh-from-the-oven mealtime — or anytime — classic. (Also, try our caesar salad

Mongolian Wok
Chow down on some delicious Asian goodness. First, select your noodles and veggies. Then tell one of our chefs which sauce and meat you want in the wok. Will it be mussels and Szechuan? Beef and Thai barbecue? Chicken and black bean? Don’t worry, the decision doesn’t have to be final — you can come back to Mongolian Wok and try all the combos your heart desires!
Blue Iguana Cantina
Nobody knows Mexican dining like a blue iguana. Well, our blue iguana, at least. That’s why it should come as no surprise that the BlueIguana Cantina features freshly made tacos and burritos stuffed specially for your enjoyment. Throw our homemade tortillas and salsa into the mix, and you have a casual dining experience that will make you say “mmmm” (which is actually Iguanese for “more, please”).
Guys Burger Joint
We went looking for someone to help us grill up the best burgers at sea, and we found just the guy. Carnival has teamed up with best-selling author, restaurateur and Food Network personality Guy Fieri to bring all the authentic appeal of a roadside burger shack to Guy’s Burger Joint, the cool poolside spot for hot burgers and hand-cut fries. Try a fresh-off-the-grill burger Guy’s way, or take it off-road to our toppings bar and truly make it your own.
Bonsai Sushi
So maybe you’ve had sushi on a cruise before, but you’ve never had it like Bonsai Sushi, our onboard seafood-and-soy-sauce spot. Dine amidst expertly-pruned bonsai trees while enjoying sit-down service and an affordable menu of delectable sushi and sashimi… plus rolls, soups, sides, sakes and desserts. So the next time you’re taking an onboard stroll, stop at Bonsai Sushi for a little something satisfying.

Shore Excursions
The best way to fill your day on shore is to explore our vacation destination's hot spots.
Your parents deserve a nice vacation… but then again, so do you. So let’s let them go do their thing while you do yours. Where to? Club O2. Hang out and do stuff like watch movies, listen to music from this decade, play sports and video games, join karaoke jam sessions… maybe even have a pool party or two, all with other high schoolers ages of 15 to 17.
The Warehouse Video Arcade
If you love to play video games, you’re in luck. Our video arcade boasts a huge array of games, and is open to players of all ages, all night and all day. So get some tokens from the vending machine and let the fun times begin. Challenge your friends to a game, or just see if you can beat the top score. After all, with the video arcade open 24 hours and an entire cruise ahead of you, you have plenty of time to try.

Cloud 9 Spa staff are masters (or, maybe more like artists) trained in the craft of simply helping you chill. What’s their secret? Massages, facials, body wraps, thermal suites and more — plus, on certain ships, the amazing Thalassotherapy Pool — these are the tools of the trade. And the trade is ultimate relaxation.

A trip to the salon is an opportunity to relax, to chat with others, to focus on yourself. It’s about more than just getting your hair or nails done… but it’s definitely about getting your hair or nails done! Even though you’re on vacation, you won’t have to settle for anything less than the salon style you’re used to back on land. And these good looks go beyond the usual — we even offer services like teeth whitening… great for taking those ‘I’m on vacation and I’m looking great!’ smiles to the next level.

Jogging Track
Jogging may not immediately come to mind when you think of things to do at sea, but it probably should. You don’t have to walk on water, you just have to get on a Carnival cruise. After all, if you’re going to jog, you’d be hard-pressed to find a place to do it with a more scenic view, or a more refreshing breeze — both of these are available in abundance when you go for an open-air jog on the upper-deck. Jogging tracks are available on all Carnival ships, and are even padded for long-distance comfort.

Blue Iguana Tequila bar
BlueIguana Tequila Bar is the onboard spot to chill and enjoy a slushy tequila drink or an ice-cold Mexican cerveza. The menu offers up Mexican favorites, including several brands of tequila and a slew of Mexican brews. There’s a lineup of frozen concoctions, cocktails and margaritas served by the glass or by the pitcher, and even a special Mexican beer cocktail (yes, really). Where can you find this little slice of Mexican paradise? Next to the pool, of course. So stay cool and take in the bar’s vacation vibe while you kick back on your cruise – that’s what official bar mascot Blue the Iguana would tell you.
Redfrog Rum Bar
Guests have told us we hit on something special with the cool Caribbean chill of the RedFrog Pub. We've taken the best parts and brought them poolside with the RedFrog Rum Bar, where the frog keeps the fun hopping day and night with all the island flava you know and love. Join the party at this poolside bar featuring a great selection of frog-approved Caribbean rum-based concoctions available by the glass or pitcher, plus plenty of Carnival’s signature private-label draft beer, ThirstyFrog Red.

Carnival Dream - Interior Common Areas
The ship has many lovely, special public rooms. Filled with reds and golds, the Carnival Dream features expensive Murano glass, wood veneers, and custom made tiles. The estimated cost of the ship was $860 million, and it looks it. The ship's soaring atrium is one of Carnival's largest, and anyone who comes onto the ship for the first time is impressed by the exciting atmosphere it creates. Many Carnival Dream guests love the Ocean Plaza, a hub with day and night entertainment, coffee bar, and a full bar.
Carnival Dream - Lounges and Bars
Carnival prides itself on its "fun ships," and the Carnival Dream has several lounges, all featuring live or musical entertainment sure to keep everyone laughing and having fun. Burgundy is a 425-seat comedy club that features a wide variety of comedians, offering both family-friendly and adults-only performances each night. Each 7-day cruise has 24 comedy performances. For those who love to be in on the action, the Caliente Dance Club has a large dance floor and modern decor. Or, music lovers can enjoy The Song for karaoke or Sam's Piano Bar for their favorite tunes. The largest lounge on board is Encore!. Each week, guests are treated to three spectacular reviews, with singers, dancers, and the Fun Force acrobats.
Carnival Dream - Exterior Common Areas
Carnival cruisers love outdoor deck areas, and the Carnival Dream was designed with lots of public space outside for both kids and adults. I love the half-mile promenade that laps the ship on deck 5. It's a great place to walk, sit, or enjoy the whirlpools that extend over the sea. All adults can enjoy Serenity , the adults-only retreat forward on decks 14 and 15. It has its own bar, a tranquil atmosphere, and very comfortable seating. Kids (and some adults) want to spend all their time at WaterWorks , which features some spine-tingling water slides and wet fun for everyone. Other outdoor activities include an 18-hole miniature golf course and basketball and volleyball courts. Carnival Dream has two outdoor pools and several whirlpools.
Carnival Dream - Camp Carnival for Kids 11 and Under
Camp Carnival on deck 11 is divided into three sections, each for a different age group. The first area (ages 2 to 5) features an arts and crafts center and a variety of age-appropriate toys and games. The second area, aimed for ages 6 to 8, offers video game consoles such as PlayStation 2 and Wii. The third (ages 9 to 11) includes a karaoke machine, air hockey and foosball tables, and PlayStation 2 and Wii video game consoles. A reception desk provides parents with a convenient venue to check their kids into and out of the program. There's also a guard who keeps an eye on the entrance when the facility is open. The activities planned for the kids are fun, but also include an educational element related to the ship's Caribbean itineraries.
Carnival Dream - Circle C for Kids 12 to 14
Circle C is found on deck 4 and focuses on the tweens ages 12 to 14. This is a fun place, with dance floor, DJ, video jukebox, and Internet workstations. The room is 1,075 square feet, and kids love the modern design and hip furniture. Circle C has a dedicated director who oversees the tweens' activities, including late-night movies, video game contests, and pool parties.
Carnival Dream - Club O2 for Teens 15 to 17
The Club O2 Teen Club is adjacent to Circle C. It is a 2,740-square-foot club where teens can network and dance to all the latest hits. Designed as a place for teens to chill, the room includes a dance floor, soda bar, music-listening stations, and a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system. Like Circle C, the Club O2 programs have a dedicated director who oversees the activities. Next to Club O2 is The Warehouse, an expansive game room featuring the latest video and arcade games. Teens can also enjoy the Carnival Dream's Y-Spa youth spa program, which offers a variety of soothing treatments.
Carnival Dream - FunHub
Kids and adults alike will be impressed by the FunHub, a comprehensive shipboard intranet portal that includes an onboard social network, along with access to a wide variety of information on the ship's services, facilities, daily activities, weather, and next port of call. The FunHub is accessible via 36 computer stations located on decks 3, 4, and 5. These stations provide guests with free and convenient access to the Carnival Dream intranet and social network on a 24/7 basis. Guests who have their own laptops along or who rent a netbook on the ship can access the sites anywhere on the ship.
Carnival Dream - Cabins and Accommodations - Cove Balcony Cabin
The Carnival Dream offers all the standard type of accommodations , including interior cabins, oceanview cabins, balcony cabins, suites, and penthouse suites. These cabins have plenty of storage space and offer all the standard amenities. In addition, the Carnival Dream introduces two innovative types of staterooms. The first cabins are the "cove" balcony staterooms on deck 2, much closer to the water than traditional balcony cabins. The open area of the balcony is smaller and can be closed with a hatch if the weather is very bad. Although the opening is smaller, the balcony is more private and still allows marvelous views. The cove balcony cabin interior is the same layout and size as a standard balcony cabin.
Carnival Dream - Cabins and Accommodations - Family Quint Oceanview Cabin
The second type of new stateroom is the "family quint," which sleeps five. In addition to twin beds that convert to king-sized, the cabin has two bunk beds and a sofa bed. What's interesting about these 193 oceanview staterooms is the bathroom configuration. Like the family cabins on the Disney Cruise Line ships, the Carnival Dream family quint cabins have two baths. One is a full bathroom (sink, toilet, shower), and the second bath has a junior tub, shower, and sink. I think this layout is better than Disney's, which has a sink and toilet in one bath and a tub/shower and sink in the second. The Carnival Dream also features 65 spa staterooms and suites, which are located near the Cloud 9 Spa and have extra amenities/privileges.
Carnival Dream - Dining and Cuisine - The Lido Restaurant
The food flavors and variety of cuisines offered at the Lido Restaurant are very good to excellent. This buffet features stations serving diverse cuisine like the Mongolian Wok , salad bar, chef's choice, and deli. Pizza and ice cream are available 24/7.
Carnival Dream - Dining - Main Dining Rooms
The two main dining rooms on the Carnival have a red theme and are appropriately named "Crimson" and "Scarlet." They feature two traditional seatings at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. as well as "Your Time" dining from 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Scarlet Restaurant is also open for breakfast and lunch with open seating.
Carnival Dream - Summary
The Carnival Dream is a great addition to the Carnival fleet and a good value for cruise travelers. Family groups, couples, and singles who love big ships with lots of activities, excellent entertainment, and good, diverse cuisine will love the Carnival Dream. After all, it's a "fun" ship!

5 Best Carnival Dream Cruise Tips
As the namesake and oldest of the three sister ships in Carnival Cruise Line's Dream Class, the 3,646-passenger Carnival Dream offers a little something for just about every taste. If you prefer wild and crazy dancing late into the night, no problem, but if you'd you rather a relaxing day by the pool sans kids, you can find that, too. Read our top five cruise tips to get the most out of your next sailing on Carnival Dream .
Tip 1: Take Some Time to Be a Kid
Whether you're traveling with children or not, there are plenty of onboard pastimes to make you feel like a kid yourself. Start a pickup game on the basketball court, play a round of mini-golf, ride all three types of water slides, grab a free soft-serve ice cream cone or splurge on some candy from Cherry on Top, the onboard sweets shop.

Tip 2: But Don't Wait to Be an Adult
Although Carnival Dream offers stellar facilities for kids, it also provides adults with a place to escape the wee ones. If you're hoping to experience Serenity, the adults-only sun deck area, get there early, as loungers are at a premium.

Tip 3: Enjoy the Decor
As one of the last two ships decorated by quirky architect Joe Farcus (who designed the interiors of all Carnival's ships prior to Carnival Breeze), Carnival Dream boasts an 11-deck atrium with a "suspended" piano and a comedy club with more than 100 Venetian masks adorning the walls. Be sure to stop, look around and appreciate the glitz.
Carnival Dream Cabin Reviews
Tip 4: Avoid the Poles
Encore!, the ship's onboard theater, usually offers two shows per night, but it can still be difficult to snag prime seating. Arrive early for the best stage views, and avoid settling yourself near the theater's poorly placed floor-to-ceiling poles, as they can impede your sightlines.
Carnival Dream Roll Calls
Tip 5: Check out the Themed Drink and Snack of the Day
Ocean Plaza, Deck 5's hub, is where you can go to find themed snacks and drinks of the day. (They might include margaritas and salsa with chips, for example.) Sure, most ships offer a "Drink of the Day" in a souvenir glass, but few offer snacks to match. You can find them at the smaller of Ocean Plaza's two bars.

Are you planning a cruise this year? You’re not alone. Here’s where ships are headed
The ships are bigger — one based at PortMiami has 18 passenger decks, seven swimming pools and a water slide park.
The trips are more ambitiou s — one vessel left downtown Miami in December for 274 days while another will depart Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale this December and visit five continents.
Viking’s World Voyage I, after departing Port Everglades, will visit Santa Barbara, California, sail up and down the Pacific Ocean, stop in Java, Indonesia, traverse the South China Sea, then visit Ho Chi Minh City and dock for three days in Yangon, Myanmar, just a sample of its itinerary.
Then there are the companies and countries not previously associated with cruising that are looking to get their feet wet: Ritz Carlton, Japanese conglomerate Mitsui, even the Saudi Arabia government.
The global cruise industry, for which South Florida is a capital , has not only recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic and its foggy aftermath, it continues to set one record after another. But are cruises giving travelers what they want, with bigger ships and new ports?
One thing is for sure: The cruise industry is navigating uncharted waters.
Record numbers of cruise passengers
Travelers, many leaving from Miami and Fort Lauderdale, are back on the high seas. Last year, more than 31 million people across the world took an oceangoing cruise, an all-time high. That’s a huge increase over the 20 million in 2022, but also exceeded the pre-pandemic all-time high in 2019.
And in 2024, another record is expected: More than 34 million are estimated to hit the seas, and nearly 40 million million by 2027, according to a new report from the trade group Cruise Lines International Association, known as CLIA.
While the growth is global, South Florida has a captain’s seat. PortMiami, Florida’s largest port, set a record for passengers, more than 7 million, during fiscal year 2023. That exceeded the 6.8 million passengers in fiscal year 2019.
The record activity is reflected in several new ships sailing out of PortMiami, including Oceania’s Vista, Carnival Cruise Line Costa Venezia and Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Viva.
Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas arrived in January at what will be its home port. The world’s largest cruise ship has more natural light and space on board with ocean views than its previous ships. Beds can even be adjusted to face the water.
Port Everglades is also growing and serving as a formidable competitor . In fiscal year 2023, the port drew just over three million passengers. While below its high-water mark of 3.9 million, the Fort Lauderdale port expects to reach that volume in 2025, the port CEO at the time told the Miami Herald last year.
In November, Disney Cruise Line started sailing from Port Everglades. The Disney Dream is based at the port and features shows with popular Disney, Marvel and Star Wars characters and meet-and-greets at sea, seeking to draw children and families.
Cruises, long seen as post-retirement travel, are luring newcomers. According to the CLIA report, 27% of cruise passengers the past two years were new to cruising. Carriers like Virgin Voyages, with U.S. headquarters in Plantation and a new chic terminal at PortMiami, are catering to young adults.
The average age of a cruiser in the past year was 46, and the majority of cruises were Gen Z or Millennials, the two youngest groups.
The future of cruising
The type of passenger cruising combined with the continued overall growth “is unprecedented,” Josh Weinstein, President, CEO and Chief Climate Officer at Carnival Corp., said from the stage at the Seatrade Cruise Global annual meeting at the Miami Beach Convention Center in April. He expects that to continue.
“Our bookings for 2025 are better than they were last year at this point for 2024,” he said.
Some industry analysts, economists and academics had previously forecast a surge in demand for cruises in 2022 or early 2023 because so many people felt they lost time during the pandemic. But they thought the numbers would eventually subside as people got back to routine.
Yet, “the concept for pent-up demand for cruising is gone,” Weinstein said.
Other post-pandemic trends, like spending time with family and friends, are helping to boost cruising.
“The appreciation of building memories with your friends and families coming out of COVID is at extraordinary high levels,” Harry Sommer, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, said at the Miami Beach conference. He noted that cruisers sharing social photos of their families is good for advertising.
Ships becoming larger is increasingly appealing to multi-generation families because of the variety of activities.
“They are trying to include more experiences and more facilities: more dining, more entertainment, more shopping, spas and entertainment,” said Stewart Chiron, a longtime cruise expert who writes as The Cruise Guy.
“The future is incredibly bright,” Sommer said.
And the cruise companies want to keep it going. Norwegian Cruise Line said this month it had ordered eight new cruise ships. They will be delivered between 2026 and 2036.
Meanwhile, another cruise line carrier, Viking, recently has filed for an initial public offering. The company did not specify number or shares or size of IPO, but its prospectus showed a $1.86 billion loss in 2023 on revenues of $4.7 billion in 2023, up from $3.2 billion in 2022.
Viking’s World Voyage I, a 180-day trip, departs from Port Everglades in December . The line’s expedition ships, Octantis, Polaris, and Mars, also are based in Fort Lauderdale.
One likely advantage for South Florida’s ports is that the United States keeps driving demand for cruises.
The number of passengers worldwide increased 6.8% compared to 2019, but the U.S. saw a 19% rise over that period. About 16.9 million people took cruises last year. That number dwarfed second-place Germany with 2.5 million. Meanwhile, Brazil grew by 30% and Italy grew by 24%, with Europe seeing a 6.5% increase.
The one place that did not share in the growth is China, which had 157,000 cruisers, a 92% fall from 1.9 million in 2019.
“That’s where we’re seeing that major lag, in Asia,” said Chris Mastrippolito, director of global research for CLIA.
Where are cruise ships heading?
Even with all the choices, people are still taking cruises mostly to the Caribbean.
In 2023, the Caribbean/Bahamas/Bermuda run was tops worldwide with 12.9 million visitors, 7.3% higher than in 2019 and nearly one million more visitors.
The Mediterranean grew by 23% to 5.5 million visitors. The two biggest gainers by percentage were South America which increased by 34% and Alaska by 36%.
Not all signs point to continued euphoria for cruise companies. Some industry experts see slower growth in the coming years.
For example, the number of ships increased by 3.4% from last year, but that was less than the 5% and 4.1% increases in the two prior years, according to data from Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics company.
Caution signs for the cruise industry
Cruise companies have ordered 51 new ships this year, an increase from the COVID years.
Yet that number is still less than half of the industry’s peak year, in 2019, when 125 new ships were ordered.
“I don’t think we’re going to see 2019 levels ... for a while,” said Christian Savelli, director of cruise analytics for research firm Tourism Economics “We’re going to see a lull, a flattening of the supply.”
A ‘disconnect’ between passengers and cruising?
But are cruise companies offering what passengers want?
A survey commissioned by Tourism Economics found that while 11% fewer cruisers prefer larger vessels, with more than 3,000 passengers, 15% more passengers like small vessels, with fewer than 500 passengers.
Savelli described that as a “potential disconnect between cruisers preference for small and mid-size cruise ships with current and future fleet mix.”
Global unrest and tension and the ongoing war in the Middle East are also likely to affect where cruisers can go. Days after Iran attacked Israel, Norwegian canceled at least 14 cruises on 7 ships in 2025.
Several of those canceled trips, on the Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Sky, and Norwegian Viva, were due to security concerns. A March 28 letter to passengers said: “We have been monitoring the situation in Israel, and despite our best hopes that it would de-escalate, we have made the decision to alter published itineraries that transit through and around the region.”
Since the terror group Hamas attacked Israel and the Gaza war started in October, cruise companies have been canceling trips to the Middle East.
Still, one thing cruise passengers can count on is having more options. All three of Norwegian ships headed to the Red Sea and near Israel in 2025 were re-routed, one of them to the Caribbean, and ahead of its schedule.
Then there is Puerto Rico which is expecting to upgrade its terminals after receiving a $100 million investment from Global Ports Holding so that it can accommodate big ships. Unconventional players like Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection and Japan’s Mitsui Ocean Cruises already offer cruises and are growing.
Saudi Arabia is looking to start a cruise industry through Cruise Saudi, a government-owned company funded by the country’s sovereign wealth fund. It currently has three ports operational and hopes to have 10 up and running by 2030, Lars Clasen, CEO of Cruise Saudi, said in an interview.
The firm also expects to have its first own cruise ship sail later this year, he estimated, with just over 300 passengers. “What we’re doing is — it’s a first — we are developing a product for the Arabian market,” he said.
Cruise Saudi also has a joint venture with the luxury hotel brand Aman Hotel and Resorts to develop a ship for about 100 guests. Aman is owned by Russian billionaire Vladislav Doronin, who separately is developing a new hotel in Miami Beach.
Then there is a more traditional carrier, from Europe, looking where others are not. The MSC Group is hoping to see a resurgence in China and looking to increase number of cruises there, its executive chairman of the cruise division at MSC Group Pierfrancesco Vago, said this month at the Seatrade conference in Miami Beach.
“I don’t think people are building ships just for the sake of it,” he said. “Ships are mobile and can go to where the demand is.”

Get to Know Carnival Dream
It's one thing to be fun, but it's another thing to be first. Carnival Dream was at the forefront of a recent wave of amazingly innovative and fun Carnival ships. As the genesis of the Dream class, Carnival Dream set the direction for the ships that followed in her footsteps — first Carnival Magic and then Carnival Breeze. But back to Carnival Dream: the ship itself is a unique experience with the way-fun RedFrog Rum Bar ® and the very cool BlueIguana Tequila Bar ™ . Get your appetite ready, because you're gonna need it. Carnival Dream features two dual-level dining rooms, a gourmet steakhouse and dedicated sushi spot Bonsai Sushi ™ . It's also got a full menu of our latest and greatest casual spots for a bite: BlueIguana Cantina ™ , Pizzeria del Capitano, Guy's Burger Joint ™ and Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse ™ . (That's Guy as in Guy Fieri, by the way — so you know the food's delish.) Carnival Dream also features the borderline-magical Alchemy Bar ® and Ocean Plaza, which combines tasty treats with perhaps even tastier entertainment. Entertainment options are all up and down the ship, and so is soaking-wet fun, from the heart-racing waterslide action at Carnival WaterWorks ™ to the soul-soothing Thalassotherapy pool at the Cloud 9 Spa ™ . Despite its name, Carnival Dream is definitely a reality. Can't believe it? Pinch yourself... and book your dream cruise today.

Princess Cruises welcomes its biggest ship ever with help from a star
It took a star to welcome the sun.
The Sun Princess , that is.
Princess Cruises on Tuesday officially hailed the arrival of its newest megavessel — at 177,882 tons, its biggest ever —with the help of "Ted Lasso" star Hannah Waddingham.
The Emmy Award-winning actress and singer presided over a star-studded 19-minute christening ceremony in the ship's Princess Arena theater that included a traditional bottle breaking, with a twist.
For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .
Serving as the ship's godmother, Waddingham placed a triangular "sun ray" representing Sun Princess into a sun sculpture on stage to trigger the smashing of a huge bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champagne — a nebuchadnezzar that holds the equivalent of 20 traditional bottles — against the ship's hull.
"As much as theater ripples through my bloodstream, I have the strongest history of maritime in my family," a clearly proud Waddingham said moments before triggering the bottle smash.
She noted that her still-living, 107-year-old grandfather served on convoy ships crossing the Atlantic during World War II. She also grew up boating.
"It's in my blood and in my bones," she added.
Built at the giant Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, Sun Princess is the most notable new Princess ship to debut in more than a decade. Capable of holding up to 5,189 passengers (a record for a Princess ship), it's not only significantly bigger than previous Princess ships but packed with more onboard venues.
The naming celebration came two months after Sun Princess began sailing for the first time with paying passengers, a debut that was unexpectedly delayed by 20 days due to construction issues.
"Sun Princess is incredible. It's the largest, most luxurious love boat ever," John Padgett, Princess president, said at the event, harking back to the line's long-standing tie to the hit television show "The Love Boat" that ran in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Three stars from the show — Ted Lange, Bernie Kopell and Jill Whelan, who played bartender Isaac Washington, ship's doctor Adam Bricker and captain's daughter Vicki Stubing, respectively — were in attendance at the event.
The "Love Boat" stars were seated just a couple rows behind Carnival Corporation chairman Micky Arison and CEO Josh Weinstein.
Carnival Corporation is the parent company of Princess Cruises.
Makoto Okuwa, a James Beard Foundation honoree who designed a sushi eatery for Sun Princess, and Dario Cecchini, a celebrity Italian butcher who created a meat-focused restaurant for the ship, were also in attendance. So was the Brazilian artist Romero Britto, who sat to the right of Arison. Britto's colorful, upbeat art is the theme for the ship's high-end restaurant, Love by Britto.
Other celebrities at the event included model and television personality Tyra Banks, wildlife show host Jeff Corwin, fashion designer and television host Randy Fenoli and mixologist Rob Floyd. British singer-songwriter Natasha Bedingfield performed her smash hit "Pocketful of Sunshine" among other hit songs on the top deck of the ship after the ceremony.
The biggest Princess ship ever
Under development for more than six years, Sun Princess is the first of the new Sphere Class of Princess vessels. The ships have been designed to be significantly bigger than previous Princess vessels and offer several new-for-the-line features.
First look: Inside Sun Princess, the giant new ship from Princess Cruises
Sun Princess is the first Princess ship with suites that come with exclusive access to a private restaurant, lounge and sun deck — part of an effort to draw more upscale customers to the brand.
Additionally, Sun Princess offers an innovative new type of "cabana cabin" on the ship's extra-wide 10th deck that features exclusive access to a private deck area. The top deck of the ship also received some unusual-for-Princess sizzle. Passengers will find a glass-dome-topped pool area that transforms into a nightspot after the sun goes down.
Other differences between Sun Princess and earlier Princess ships include the lack of a buffet restaurant on its main pool deck. But don't worry, buffet lovers: There still is a buffetlike venue on the ship. Called The Eatery, it's eight decks below the pool deck, closer to the ship's central piazza and just off its outside promenade.
The ship's main theater, the Princess Arena, also has a new look. Its new-for-Princess, in-the-round shape can be converted into a more traditional proscenium-type theater or a keyhole-type theater to allow for different types of productions.
Among other standout venues, Sun Princess features a secret hideaway for magical performances designed in partnership with the Magic Castle performance venue in Los Angeles.

Princess also has revamped its main dining room program with the debut of Sun Princess. It now offers three distinct options for cruisers in its main dining rooms, ranging from a traditional fixed seating experience to a casual, come-when-you-want option that includes quick-served meals and even breakfast for dinner .
The arrival of Sun Princess marks the first time Princess has launched a new class of ship in nearly 11 years. With its debut, Princess now has 16 vessels in its fleet that collectively have room for about 50,000 passengers. That makes Princess the world's fifth-biggest cruise line, behind Royal Caribbean , Carnival Cruise Line , MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line .
Related: The 4 types of Princess ships, explained
Sun Princess is initially sailing in Europe through the fall. It'll then reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for voyages to the Caribbean. Fares start at $577 per person, not including taxes and fees, for a seven-night Caribbean sailing.
A second ship in the new Sphere Class series, to be called Star Princess, is on order from the Fincantieri shipyard for delivery in 2025. Its first voyage is scheduled for Aug. 4, 2025, and will take place in the Mediterranean.
