BTS performed their first North American stadium tour with two shows apiece at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl (May 4-5), Chicago’s Soldier Field (May 11-12) and New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium (May 18-19). The results were staggering, as the South Korean megastars grossed $44 million from six shows, selling 299,770 tickets according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore.

Followed by stadium dates in Sao Paolo (Allianz Parque; May 25-26), London (Wembley Stadium; June 1-2), and Paris (Stade de France; June 7-8), they added $35 million to the Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Tour total for a combined $78.9 million and 606,409 tickets.

These U.S. figures are not just groundbreaking as international artists, but for the touring industry at large. Their double-header at the Rose Bowl earned $16.6 million, making it the single highest-grossing engagement in the venue’s Boxscore history, out-pacing previous high marks by Taylor Swift and U2 , as well as co-headlining stints by Beyoncé & Jay-Z and Eminem & Rihanna .

At Metlife Stadium, BTS End U.S. Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Stadium Tour on Their Own Terms

Their shows in Chicago and New Jersey rank among the top five-grossing engagements for Soldier Field and MetLife Stadium, respectively.

BTS will continue to tour across Asia, through a July 7 performance at the Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka, Japan.

9 International Artists With The Most Expensive Concert Tickets Of All Time

From michael jackson and led zeppelin to elton john and bts, here are some of the most expensive concert tickets ever sold..

9 International Artists With The Most Expensive Concert Tickets Of All Time

For the chance to see their favourite artists sing live on a global-production stage, fans are willing to pay a generous amount for the front seat tickets. Here are the most expensive concert tickets of all time.

With Taylor Swift’s ongoing The Eras Tour projected to earn a record-breaking USD 1 billion in sales by 2024, concert tickets have become much more than just passes to see musicians live. From witnessing legendary performances with extravagant production value to getting a chance to meet the stars, musical gigs can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Naturally, concert tickets, which give access to such perks and privileges, can be expensive.

Over the years, live concerts have evolved from being just a musical showcase. Audiences buy official merchandise and become a part of a community of fans. Many concerts allow immersive experiences with high-tech stages, large display screens, innovative lighting and high-octane dancers accompanying the backing bands. Hence, in today’s era of hyped marketing and sky-high revenues, such expensive concert tickets are seen as an investment.

So much so that The Eras Tour ticket prices reached as high as USD 14,000 per pass for the July 2023 Kansas City concert on resale sites. The “Karma” singer also announced Europe and Asia dates amid inflated ticket prices. According to Guardian , while London passes are being sold for GBP 2,300 (USD 2,955), the most expensive concert ticket for the Singapore leg is priced at SGD 348 (approximately USD 258). Despite all that, fans continue to clamour to claim a spot in the arena.

In the past, artists, such as The Rolling Stones and Elton John, have charged enormous amounts for their concerts as well.

Here’s how much some of the most expensive concert tickets of all time cost

Michael jackson’s final curtain call.

Expensive concert tickets - Michael Jackson

Price : USD 1,100

The King of Pop never needed an introduction and even today, the world recalls the hypnotic music, sets and choreography of his live performances. In 2009, the Final Curtain Call concert, which was deemed his last tour, saw some of the most expensive concert tickets of all time.

According to a CNN report, Jackson sold out 50 shows at London’s O2 Arena within four hours of the sale going live. In no time, 750,000 passes were bought. Sales were capped at four per household and while an average ticket cost USD 105, VIP tickets shot up to USD 1,100. After the general sale was over, passes appeared on the resale market and one seller sought USD 35,000 for a VIP package.

The concert began on 8 July 2009 and was initially slated for 10 nights only. However, an overwhelming demand compelled MJ, as he was lovingly known, to add 40 more dates to his London wing of the tour.

The Rolling Stones’ 50 & Counting tour

Expensive concert tickets - The Rolling Stone

Price : GBP 950 (USD 1,219)

One of the most legendary rock ‘n’ roll bands of all time, The Rolling Stones is best known for electrifying music and outstanding songs. In 2012, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood wowed fans on their 50th-anniversary concert tour, which sold GBP 24 million (nearly USD 31 million) worth of tickets.

According to a 2012 NME report, the group’s London shows on 25 and 29 November 2012 “shifted as many as 31,755 tickets,” while their US shows on 8, 13 and 15 December 2012 “pushed the total number of tickets sold to 364,864 over all five dates.”

The report said, “Tickets for the band’s London shows ranged from GBP 90 (over USD 115) to a deluxe VIP package priced at GBP 950 (around USD 1,220), which left many fans frustrated as they could not afford to see the legendary group.”

According to a Daily Mail report in 2013, the band was later forced to slash the prices, as many seats in the arenas remained vacant.

Justin Bieber’s Justice World Tour

Expensive concert tickets - Justin Bieber

Price : USD 1,500

A Justin Bieber concert is characterised by frenzied fan moments, epic dance breaks and some of the most expensive tickets. His 2022 Justice World Tour drew much attention for being one of the first concerts to be held after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reportedly, the top-tiered tickets cost USD 1,500. Situated right next to the stage, it offered the best view and took the audience extremely close to Bieber.

However, this was not the first time the pop star’s show came with a hefty entry fee. During his India leg of the Purpose tour in 2016, each expensive ticket grossed about USD 1,149, reported Teen Vogue .

BTS’ Love Yourself World Tour

Expensive concert tickets - BTS

Price : USD 3,850

One of the most popular names in the K-pop scene, BTS enthrals the audience at their concerts and sends ripples across the globe. Unwavering support and craze from their devoted fan base, ARMY, incredible tracks and catchy music make each concert a spectacle to remember.

An insatiable demand for passes to shows by the septet, comprising Jungkook, V, Jimin, Suga, J-Hope, Jin and RM, has seen a surge in prices in the secondary ticket market. A CNBC report states that according to secondary ticket marketplace TicketCity, their 2o18 Love Yourself World Tour saw sky-high ticket prices, and in one instance, an expensive ticket was sold for USD 3,850. It was for the group’s Chicago, US, show and was bought in Massachusetts.

The report states that on average, BTS concert tickets are sold for USD 823, which is nearly double of passes for Taylor Swift’s 2018 Reputation tour, which cost around USD 413 per ticket.

Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Elton John (@eltonjohn)

Price : USD 4,500

Legendary musician Elton John’s last concert tour was a grand success, both in terms of performances and audience turnout. One of the highest-grossing concerts of all time, the Farewell Yellow Brick tour started in 2018 and continued till July 2023.

On the last show, held in Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena, John played “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” as a fitting end to the concert and was received exceptionally well by a roaring crowd of over 45,000. As per The Mirror , the five-year concert, with over 300 shows, raked in over GBP 700 million (approximately USD 896 million), with another expected USD 20 million from eight more gigs yet to be factored in.

An article by the Guinness World Records , citing Billboard Boxscore, said, “The legendary British singer has grossed a whopping USD 817.9 million (GBP 660.06 million) from the eight legs (278 shows) of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. The shows, held between September 2018 and January 2023, have become the highest-grossing music tour ever.”

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour

Expensive concert tickets - Beyonce

Price : USD 5,000

Queen Bey’s 2023 Renaissance World Tour is one of the most talked-about events of the year. From featuring a performance by her daughter, Blue Ivy, to witnessing some electrifying performances by the pop icon, along with astonishing lights and costumes, the tour has it all.

And when it comes to such a heavy-weight star concert, tickets are expected to be rather expensive. According to Billboard , ticket prices vary depending on the seat category and the country, but an average seat might have a price tag of around USD 350. For the ones located closer to the stage, tickets cost between USD 900 and USD 3,000 with the premium package costing USD 5,000 in certain cities.

In fact, the high prices of her concert led to inflation in Sweden after she performed in Stockholm in February 2023. According to the chief economist of Danske Bank, the tour resulted in increased hotel, restaurant and recreation prices fuelled by higher demand from fans visiting.

Bruce Springsteen’s Springsteen and the E Street Band tour

Expensive concert tickets - Bruce Springsteen

Despite high demands, the 2023 concert by Bruce ‘The Boss’ Springsteen was met with criticism as the American singer, his band and Ticketmaster came under heavy scrutiny for charging exorbitant amounts. While fans were extremely elated to catch Springsteen live, many were left extremely disheartened, as the ticketing platform’s dynamic pricing policy left them hanging.

According to Variety , in 2022, New Jersey Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. issued a formal complaint against the Live Nation-owned company. He tweeted saying, “Today I’ve demanded answers from Ticketmaster on the monopoly’s role in the Springsteen tour fiasco where fans were charged upwards of $5,000 for seats.”

A 2023 New York Post report stated that Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau defended Ticketmaster saying that the average price is kept at USD 200, which is a “fair price”. Meanwhile, the musician spoke to Rolling Stone magazine and said he is considering what others are doing and has instructed to “charge a little less”.

The performance set list includes some of the band’s most popular chart-toppers like “Move Like Jagger”, “Payphone”, “What Lovers Do” and “Girls Like You.” As a major highlight during one of its March shows, Maroon 5 also paid tribute to their late manager Jordan “Jordi” Feldstein, and Levine dedicated “Love Somebody” to his wife Behati Prinsloo, saying, “This one’s for you B.”

Led Zeppelin’s Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert

Expensive concert tickets - Led Zeppelin

Price : USD 84,000

In 2007, legendary rock band Led Zeppelin took the idea of expensive concert tickets to a whole new level. The band had reunited after nearly 20 years at London’s O2 Arena for a benefit concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder, Ahmet Ertegun.

Although the base fare for passes started at USD 250, Far Out reported the price went up to USD 168,000 for two passes. They were bought off a charity auction. The fact that the group got together after so long to headline the event made it a memorable and rare experience.

Having played 16 songs, the concert cemented Led Zeppelin’s position as one of the most influential rock bands of all time and demonstrated its influence over fans. The Los Angeles Times reported that many in the UK capital also billed it as the ‘“concert of the millennium” by “the greatest rock and roll band ever”.’

Taylor Swift's reign continues as she ramps up for the next leg of The Eras Tour. The singer-songwriter will kick off the European portion of her world tour in Paris in May, which will continue throughout the summer. From there, she'll return to North America to tour Canada and a few remaining US cities in the fall. If you're hoping to attend, we've compiled all of the details of The Eras Tour, including how to get Taylor Swift tour tickets.

Swift's Eras Tour has taken the world by storm since March 2023. The three-plus-hour tour features hits from each of Swift's album eras, from "Lover" to her recent Grammy Award-winning "Midnights." Each show also features surprise songs and occasional guests, so fans never quite know what they're in for. Swift will release her latest album, "The Tortured Poets Department," in April, but it's unknown if any of those songs will make their way to the tour setlist.

Getting tickets has become its own battle and many fans have waited hours in the Ticketmaster queue to hopefully snag some seats, if they could get a presale ticket code in the first place. While Swift continues to extend the tour, including new US dates, tickets remain hard to come by.

Below, we've put together a guide on everything to know about The Eras Tour, including the tour schedule, ticket purchasing details, resale ticket prices, and the concert film streaming options . You can also peruse resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

Taylor Swift international tour dates

The Eras Tour international dates resume on May 9 in Paris. The European tour will run until August 20 in London. UK prices are listed in pounds, and start times vary from city to city. US dates start in October and can be found under the following table.

Taylor Swift North American tour dates

The Eras tour will return to the US on October 18 in Miami. In addition to the Miami shows, Swift will perform multiple dates in New Orleans and Indianapolis. On November 14, Swift will head to Canada for several shows in Toronto and Vancouver. All North American shows start at 7 p.m. local time.

How to buy tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 tour

Original standard tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 sold out long ago for both international and domestic dates. All US tickets and many international tickets were sold through Ticketmaster , although select international locations used different services.

Tickets for most dates are available on resale websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats . These are generally higher-priced than the originals, which are no longer available. Keep in mind that some countries have rules regarding reselling tickets.

How much are Taylor Swift tickets?

Ticket prices vary by date and location. International resale tickets tend to be a bit cheaper than US resale tickets. It's worth noting that some of the cheapest tickets have restricted views.

StubHub's cheapest European tickets range from $392 (Madrid, Spain, on May 29) to ÂŁ978 (London, United Kingdom, on June 22). The latter is around $1,248 in USD. The lowest prices for most shows are around $450 to $1,000. On Vivid Seats , the cheapest tickets for these dates go for $549 and $683, respectively.

When it comes to North American shows, the cheapest StubHub tickets range from $1,045 (Vancouver, Canada, on December 8) to $2,081 (Miami, Florida, on October 19). Most of the cheapest tickets are priced between $1,200 and $1,800. On Vivid Seats, the cheapest Taylor Swift tickets on these dates start at $1,133 and $2,212, respectively. The two resale vendors generally have similarly priced offerings, but this varies from show to show.

Who is opening for Taylor Swift's tour?

Taylor Swift has a variety of opening acts, from up-and-coming singers to established groups. Opening acts vary by date. For the European leg of the tour, Paramore will open for Swift. In the US and Canada, Gracie Abrams will be the opening act.

Will Taylor Swift add more dates to the Eras Tour?

Taylor Swift already added additional stops to her tour due to popular demand, including her US tour dates this fall. She also added additional dates to some of her European city stops, including bonus performances in France and the United Kingdom, among other locations. It's unknown whether Swift will end up adding even more tour dates, but by the end of the upcoming US leg she will have been touring for almost two years, so fans shouldn't be surprised if she takes a break.

Why are ticket prices for the hottest concerts in Milwaukee and elsewhere skyrocketing?

love yourself tour ticket prices

The concert industry is bigger than it's ever been — and for the top stars' concerts, ticket prices are, too.

If you want to see folk-pop sensation Noah Kahan at Alpine Valley Music Theatre July 13, you’ll have to pay $359.50 for a ticket, or more than $300 for a resale seat through StubHub for lawn access in the back of the outdoor East Troy venue.

In February 2023, when Kahan headlined the Miller High Life Theatre in Milwaukee, tickets cost only $32.50 for general-admission seating. And at Summerfest last June, you could have seen him with a $26 Summerfest general-admission ticket — or for free if you took advantage of a promo deal.

Zach Bryan also played Summerfest last year, at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater. Tickets, which included festival admission July 7, ranged from $68.17 to $476.70. But the starting prices for remaining tickets for Bryan's Fiserv Forum concert just eight months later, on March 20, start at $330.

And then there’s Olivia Rodrigo.

For the 21-year-old’s "Guts" tour stop at Fiserv Forum Saturday, access codes were required to purchase tickets. Those who weren't randomly selected to get the codes either have to skip the show or buy them through resale sites — where they start at $201 for an obstructed-view seat through reseller Vivid Seats, and $781 for pit access.

When Rodrigo played the Eagles Ballroom at the Rave in 2022, resale tickets for the general-admission show started around $189.

"If there's a limited supply, people have a fear of missing out and want to buy those tickets," said Gary Witt, CEO of Milwaukee venue operator and events promoter Pabst Theater Group. "People have shown they will spend a significant amount of money on artists they want to see."

And many of the most popular artists, capitalizing on that demand and to cover their own rising costs, are becoming increasingly comfortable with charging a premium.

Concert industry broke records — thanks in part to rising ticket prices

The concert industry had a record box-office haul in 2023. The top 100 tours worldwide made $9.17 billion, according to concert trade magazine Pollstar, a 46% increase from 2022. Ticket sales for the top 100 tours were up 18.4% according to Pollstar, and the average number of tickets sold for the biggest shows increased 24.25%.

"Live experiences already held a big value with our patrons and artists and fans. Coming out of the pandemic, it's even more so now," said Charlie Goldstone, co-president of Madison-based, Live Nation-backed promoter FPC Live, which is behind Rodrigo's show in Milwaukee.

Average ticket prices are higher, too, up 23.3%, from $106.07 to $130.81, Pollstar reported.

As a result, concert ticketing has come under more scrutiny.

The backlash was so harsh over ticket price increases for Bruce Springsteen's 2023 tour that long-running Springsteen tribute magazine Backstreets shut down in protest. And the ticket-buying process for the first dates of Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour" last year was such a fiasco that it triggered a congressional hearing.

But Springsteen and Swift are veteran artists with deep, treasured discographies. Sky-high prices and unprecedented demand weren't all that surprising, especially coming out of the concert-crushing pandemic.

What's happening with Kahan, Bryan and Rodrigo is more unexpected. All three are newer artists who have all been on multiple tours, and have played other Milwaukee concerts since 2022.

That tickets are so hard to come by, and for prices to rise so steeply, is a staggering development.

"Artists are creating new fans every month and new superstars are created every year," Goldstone said. "Fans will go to a show, have an amazing time, and want to go to more shows."

Rodrigo and Bryan helped fuel that demand with new albums ahead of their returns to Milwaukee. Both of their albums debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and generated No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.

Kahan is still touring in support of his 2022 album "Stick Season," but since his Summerfest show he's released two expanded versions of the album, and collaborative songs with Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves, Hozier and even Bryan. His Summerfest show was one of the most packed performances ever on a grounds stage at the festival — with many of those fans, and those who missed out, behind heavy sales for the Alpine concert.

"If you don't get tickets to a Bucks playoff game, you can watch at home or a sports bar and be with other big fans," said FPC Live co-president Scott Leslie. "People have a different kind of relationship with artists than other entertainers. Whether it's the lyrical connection or whatever else, it's individual for everybody, and where the demand comes from is being in the room with them for those two hours. That is not something that is able to be replaced, and that is why demand is so much crazier."

Spending habits, rising costs and demand fuel concert price increases

In addition to pandemic concert deprivation fueling demand, Witt suspects spending habits are shifting, too.

“The average home buyer age is 49 vs. the average age of a buyer being 31 in 2008,” Witt noted. “Quite a few people of those age groups in the past that used to save are not saving those dollars. … Concerts are very much a place where people are putting some money they used to save to buy their first home.

“The high demand creates a surge and, of course, there’s a limited supply.”

And ticket demand has become so great for the Swifts and Springsteens of the world — and even the Rodrigos and Bryans and Kahans — that satisfying it is difficult.

“Touring is hard physically, touring is hard logistically, it’s hard mentally,” Goldstone said. “Taylor Swift could have done 10 times as many shows and they’d sell out, but people have limits of what can be physically done, and that creates scarcity and, with that, the price increases.”

“No artist can work seven days a week,” Leslie echoed. “Everyone needs nights off, and there are costs associated by the tour that accrue on nights off."

The costs that go into a show are higher, too, Witt said.

"It costs more to lease a bus now, it costs more to put artists on the road, hotel prices are more — in addition to a greater amount of technology on the road, more than ever before," he said.

Artists have a hand in higher ticket prices, too

But tickets for many top-tier concerts are also going up because artists want them to go up, said Dave Brooks, senior director of live and touring for Billboard.

"Tours are finding out that they can charge more," he said. "Fans are willing to pay more for high-demand shows. They are willing to pay more for the artists that they like and want to see, and they really value that experience."

"In a lot of cases, if (the artists) don't charge what the market will bear, it just creates an opportunity for scalpers," he continued. "Any artist that can outsell demand is going to push prices."

That was Springsteen's justification when he was asked about ticket price increases by Rolling Stone magazine last year.

"The ticket broker or someone is going to be taking that money," Springsteen suggested if he continued pricing tickets "under market value" as he had in the past. "I’m going, 'Hey, why shouldn’t that money go to the guys that are going to be up there sweating three hours a night for it?'"

Affordable concert options still persist

Brooks predicted that there'll be an elite tier of artists — perhaps as many as 30 — for whom high demand will continue to push up ticket prices.

But he also predicted "a much larger middle tier that will be more in tune with people's sensitivities with pricing."

"Most of the shows don't sell out," Goldstone said. "Most of the shows that happen are not in the biggest venues in town. Most are at smaller venues where ticket prices are more affordable."

To emphasize that point, the Pabst Theater Group last year started promoting shows on a special "Tickets Under $30" webpage. Veteran local concert promoter and Shank Hall owner Peter Jest makes sure there are options for two tickets to sell for $100, fees included, for theater shows he's promoting.

And then sometimes music fans can get lucky and save money on a big concert. When tickets initially went on sale for Travis Scott's Fiserv Forum show in January, tickets started at $56.50. But sales were sluggish, and prices for those cheapest seats dropped $20 by the morning of the show. One resale ticket was priced as low as $18.

The best tickets for “a class of artists will be expensive and, unfortunately, not everybody as a fan will afford that … ," Goldstone said. "Ultimately, we all want to get the most amount of people in a room. The ultimate goal is making sure tickets are priced so that happens."

What goes into the price of a concert ticket?

Why does a concert ticket for a major artist cost what it costs anyway?

Contrary to some beliefs, ticket sellers like oft-maligned Ticketmaster don't set the price, FPC Live's Goldstone said. The artists' teams do, although Billboard's Brooks said Ticketmaster and other ticket sellers can use algorithmic pricing tools, like dynamic pricing, "to incentivize artists to charge more."

"The lion's share of the money (from a sold ticket) goes to the artist, but it doesn't all go to the artist's bank account … ," FPC Live's Leslie said. "They have expenses, too, from semi-truck rentals to bus rentals to drivers to crew members."

Artist payments make up the base for the ticket price. But often there are fees — increasingly figured into a ticket's price upfront — that generally amount to a 20% to 30% surcharge, Brooks said. The ticket seller collects a small part of that surcharge, but most of it goes to the venue and the promoter to cover the physical cost of the concert.

But who gets what from a concert isn't always clear cut, Brooks said. That's especially the case when the players might include Live Nation, the world's largest concert promoter and venue operator; Live Nation-supported, independently operated promoters, like FPC Live; and Ticketmaster, the world's largest ticket seller, which Live Nation owns.

In a lot of cases, Brooks said, promoters might get rebates from concert venue fees to incentivize more bookings. And "from the money that goes to the artist, the artist might pay 5% to 10% to the promoter for certain services," Brooks said. "And the venue has its hand in the artist's money by charging artists to sell their merch."

"So everybody's got their hands in each other's pockets, and that drives the ticket price up," Brooks said.

With Live Nation coming under increased scrutiny, Brooks believes a primary objective for the company now is to "clean that up."

Hot Detroit Lions playoffs tickets attract scammers

love yourself tour ticket prices

The gotta-be-at-Ford-Field feeling that is driving Detroit Lions fans to pay insane prices for tickets to Sunday's playoff game against Tampa Bay creates a prime-time moment for scammers.

Fake tickets are a real thing, as many Taylor Swift fans sadly learned last summer when some lost $350, $475 and more to online crooks who were pretending that they had real tickets for sale to Swift's Eras Tour.

Oh, the digital tickets can look real. Scammers often create a phony screenshot of a ticket that doesn't exist or has previously been sold, possibly more than once, according to a warning from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel about potential scams involving Lions playoff tickets.

It's the kind of scam that can easily trap young consumers who have cash on the sidelines and plenty of confidence in buying what they want online. Many consumers don't realize that screenshots of tickets can be easily faked. Or that look-alike websites are developed by scammers to make you think you're dealing with a legitimate, well-respected ticket seller.

On Wednesday, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office issued a report that indicated that a man responded to a post on Facebook from a woman selling two tickets to the Lions playoff game on Sunday.

The buyer and seller agreed on a price via Facebook messaging. The money was to be paid through Venmo. After the buyer paid for the tickets, the seller then demanded more money to "transfer the tickets into his name."

The man didn't send more money and reported the scam to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, which has been unable to reach the seller and is investigating.

The sheriff's office did not disclose the exact amount of money lost. But the amount was between $500 and $1,000 lost, according to Jennifer Putney, public information officer for the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham is warning consumers about the prevalence of financial scams through social media. Consumers lost $2.7 billion in scams originating on social media, according to the Federal Trade Commission, between January 2021 and June 2023.

Where can you buy Lions tickets online?

Online ticket scams are now prevalent for everything from concert tickets to college football. Warnings about bogus ticket sales cropped up all season for Detroit Lions games, as the team built on grit generated more and more excitement.

Typically, the attorney general in a given state where a major game is being held will issue a warning about online ticket scams, according to a spokesperson for the Detroit Lions.

"It ramps up, especially when games are bigger and are more sought after," the spokesperson said.

The best bet for Lions tickets, according to the spokesperson for the Detroit Lions, is the official NFL Ticket Exchange through Ticketmaster.com. It is a hub for seats to NFL regular season games, the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl LVIII.

The website notes: "As the official Ticket Marketplace of the NFL, we guarantee that the seat you buy is the seat you’ll be in for the game."

On Wednesday, you could find many tickets priced above $500 each for the 3 p.m. Sunday game at Ford Field where the Lions take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A verified resale ticket popped up at $575 for Section 340, Row 13. A fairly lengthy list of other seats were priced from $575 to $750 each.

So if someone is suddenly trying to "unload" a Lions ticket for Sunday's game at $150 each, well, that's very likely a sign that you've found a deal that is way too good to be true.

Another bad sign: Someone reaches out to you via Facebook or another platform, perhaps noticing that you're a Lions fan, and suddenly they need to get rid of some tickets.

Scammers offer hot tickets, cold water bottles

Scammers thrive by taking take advantage of all sorts of hype, newsy headlines, and the short supply for popular items, including football tickets and other goods. One New York consumer reported losing $14 in January to a phony site selling the wildly popular Stanley cups for only $5.99, according to a report made in January to the Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker. The cups can sell for $35 or $45 or more.

Online ticket scams, though, can steal far more cash from consumers because ticket prices are so high to start.

If you're looking to buy tickets to the Detroit Lions playoff or any other event, consumer watchdogs suggest that you take your time and make sure you are buying from a reputable website. Don't exchange any personal financial information until you've done your due diligence.

Consumers often start with an internet search for a spot like Ticketmaster or StubHub. But make sure that you didn't land at a far different, fake site, according to a warning from the Better Business Bureau. Take an extremely close look at the website’s URL to spot misspellings. Impostors create look-alike websites with domain names that play off well-known business names.

Use a credit card, not a payment app, for more protection in the event no tickets arrive or you're dealing with a scammer.

The Michigan AG's Office notes that peer-to-peer payment platforms are often used to obtain money as part of the scam. Think of money apps like Apple Pay, Cash App, Circle Pay, Facebook Payments, Google Pay, PayPal, Square Cash, PopMoney, Zelle and Venmo.

Another key red flag: Online ticket sellers often ask you to send money more than once. Victims of these scams report that the seller kept coming up with new fees or reasons to send cash. One request included a fake $85 fee to transfer a Ticketmaster ticket to the consumer. As more fees kept being added on, some consumers recognized that something wasn't right. But it was too late to get their money back.

In other scams, they might ask you to send money but then claim the money didn't get there and you need to resend money to another account. A refund is supposed to be given once the other money shows up. If you trust them, you might repeatedly send money to make sure you get the tickets or other goods. You'll only be out even more money if you play along.

Ticket scams hit all sorts of football games

Ticket scams are part of the landscape when it comes to fraudulent online deals.

Penn State University reported in late August that some students had lost up to $900 buying fake college football tickets from scammers over platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and GroupMe.

Typically, ticket buyers are asked to pay for tickets via a platform like Venmo, CashApp or Zelle. Authorities warn that after payment is received, the seller’s account is deleted. The victim is then unable to account for the fraudulent purchase.

In October, the University of Michigan warned of an increase in sophisticated student football ticket scams. The scammers, according to one U-M alert, often "follow up by sending forged emails that appear to come from real students’ @umich.edu email addresses."

The doctored emails claim to prove the legitimacy of the seller, the tickets, and a promise is made that the tickets will be transferred to the buyer once a payment is sent via Cash App, Venmo or other methods. The money is instantly transferred and gone by the time you might realize that you're working with a scammer.

How to protect yourself from a scam

The Michigan AG's Office suggests: "If you are unfamiliar with a particular ticket vendor, you can call the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Team at 877-765-8388." You can ask whether the AG's Office has any complaints on file regarding that particular seller. But the Office warns that "the absence of filed complaints does not guarantee a seller's legitimacy; it simply means that we have not received any complaints concerning the vendor."

Unfortunately, scammers will find all sorts of ways to engage after trying to sell phony tickets. It's a good time to be on high alert for scams overall.

For example, a scammer might soon alert you that there has been "suspicious activity" on your bank account. The crooks impersonate big name banks and sound like they're trying to help you avoid problems when they end up stealing your money. The scammers might say you need to send money to yourself to reverse a transaction. But a legitimate bank isn't going to tell you to send money to anyone, including yourself, to fight fraud.

The Michigan Attorney General's Office notes that someone can claim to represent a fraud department and ask you to confirm information such as your bank account username and password, credit card or debit card data, or Social Security numbers. Do not verify or confirm this information. Scammers want to create a peer-to-peer account with your information, steal your identity, and gain access to the money in your bank account.

Fraudsters can send spoofed emails warning that a bank account is about to be suspended. They'll suggest that the account holder must enter their password on an imposter webpage. "Generally, payment app vendors will never ask you to enter your password unless you are on the login page," the AG's Office warns.

Con artists who are supposedly selling tickets — or even selling a car — might say they need to send you a code to verify your identity, according to Public Interest Research Groups' (PIRG) Teresa Murray. They claim there's a lot of scammers out there and they need to know you're real.

It’s usually a six-digit code that's being generated elsewhere and they want you to read the code back to the seller so they can use it for a scam. Don't do it.

In some cases, they can use the code to set up "Google Voice" account in your name and use that phone number to scam people, in your name.

'Star Wars' marathon 2024 tickets: Where to get tickets for the 9-movie 'Skywalker Saga' theater event

May the fourth be with you . In honor of this year's "Star Wars Day" celebration on May 4 and the 25th anniversary of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," Jedis and Sith Lords alike can spend an entire day in a theater watching the entire epic saga in a row on the big screen, as intended.

But Florida fans may be out of luck, unless they want to road-trip.

While "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, will be widely released, some locations are reporting that the 24-hour Skywalker Saga Marathon will only be available in 13 theaters nationwide.

"The Majestic is one of only 13 locations across the nation hosting this spectacular event," said the Marcus Theaters , "and the only one in Wisconsin." The closest (so far) to Florida is in Plano, Texas. A theater list is below.

Along with the mindblowing daylong spectacle of empires, Jedis, princesses, lightsabers, space battles, beeping droids and the eternal struggle of good vs. evil, the marathon also will include an exclusive look at "The Acolyte," a new Disney+ series set during the High Republic era, the release said. Anyone attending the marathon will receive a special limited edition poster.

"We would be honored if you would join us for this rare opportunity to see  Star Wars  as it was intended: on the big screen!" the release said.

Here's what you need to know.

What is the Skywalker Saga Marathon?

All nine episodic "Star Wars" movies shown in a row, along with an exclusive look at the 8-episode Disney+ show "The Acolyte," coming June 4.

When do tickets go on sale?

Tickets go on sale 12 p.m. EDT, Friday, March 22, 2024.

Where is the 'Skywalker Saga Marathon' being shown?

So far some of the theaters advertising the event are:

  • Arizona: Harkins at Tempe Marketplace 16 in Tempe
  • El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood
  • Regal Irvine Spectrum in Irvine
  • Alamo Drafthouse New Mission in San Francisco
  • Illinois: AMC River East 21 in Chicago
  • Kansas: AMC Town Center 20 in Kansas City
  • Massachusetts: Showcase Cinema de Lux Legacy Place , Dedham
  • New York: AMC Empire 25 in, New York City
  • Pennsylvania: Regal US King of Prussia in Philadelphia
  • Texas: Cinemark West Plano XD and ScreenX in Plano
  • Utah: Megaplex Jordan Commons in Sandy
  • Virginia: AMC Tysons Corner 16 in McLean
  • Wisconsin: Marcus Theatre's Majestic Cinema in Milwaukee

Prices range from $45 to well over a hundred dollars, depending on what other services, photo ops, costume parties, and food deals each theater is providing.

Fortunately, all the movies are still available on Disney+ with a subscription, so there's nothing stopping you from hosting your own massive marathon.

Which Star Wars movies will be shown? In what order?

The movies will be shown in chronological order, so:

  • " Star Wars: The Phantom Menace "
  • " Star Wars: Attack of the Clones "
  • " Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith "
  • " Star Wars: A New Hope "
  • " Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back "
  • " Star Wars: Return of the Jedi "
  • " Star Wars: The Force Awakens "
  • " Star Wars: The Last Jedi "
  • " Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker "

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will not be included.

How long does it take to watch all 9 'Star Wars' movies?

Strap in and get the big bucket of popcorn. Watching all nine episodic "Star Wars" movies will take you approximately 19 hours and 56 minutes, not counting trailers, "The Acolyte" content and emergency bathroom breaks.

Why May 4? What is Star Wars Day?

Fans celebrate Star Wars Day on May the 4th because it sounds close to the classic phrase, "May the force be with you" from the very first movie, "Star Wars: A New Hope."

One of the first appearances was in a London newspaper when it congratulated Britain’s new prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, on her first day of office. The full-page ad read "May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations!"

May the 4th be with you: How today came to be 'Star Wars Day'

Over the years the catchy (and later, highly hashtaggable) phrase caught on and fans began devoting the day to Star Wars-related celebrations. LucasFilms has often timed "Star Wars" releases, announcements and events for May 4.
