Hateful Panties | Leanne Morgan

After discovering her passion for stand-up comedy later in life and finding the time and confidence to pursue her dream, Leanne Morgan has cemented herself as a must-watch comedian.

Leanne was feeling the lure of Hollywood after graduating high school, yet the idea of moving there was unheard of and too daunting for a country girl who had never been away from home. She enrolled in college at The University of Tennessee, where she graduated (by the skin of her teeth) with a degree in Child and Family Studies.

Shortly after, she married her husband, Chuck, and they moved to Bean Station, Tennessee located in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.

To stay busy after having her first baby, Morgan started selling jewelry at home parties. She was supposed to talk about the jewelry but instead conversed about breastfeeding, hemorrhoids and being a mama. The party guests thought that she was hilarious, and before she knew it, she was booked a year in-advance.

The jewelry company saw what was happening and asked her to speak at their sales rallies. It was there that women started saying, “you need to do stand-up!” That gave Morgan the courage to really go for it! She finally had access to comedy clubs when her family moved to San Antonio in 2001, and her career in comedy quickly officially got underway.

Morgan’s comedy has landed her at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and has brought her development deals for her own sitcom with ABC and Warner Brothers, writer/producer Matt Williams (Rosanne and Home Improvement), TV Land and with Sony Television.

Morgan has garnered over 3M followers across social media and her popular online stand-up special, So Yummy, has reached over 50M views on YouTube. Her fan base continues to grow with her relatability as she discusses everything from being a housewife, sharing Jell-O recipes to having a new grandbaby. Morgan has appeared on NewsHour on PBS,  Today Show on NBC, Sherri, The Kelly Clarkson Show, The View, and Nick at Nite’s Funniest Mom.

Now that her children are grown, Morgan is moving full steam ahead with a career rooted in her everyday comedy. In December 2022, she concluded The Big Panty Tour with Outback Presents which spanned 100+ shows in theaters across the U.S.  She released her first Netflix special, Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman, on April 11, 2023, to amazing reviews and viewership.  Her special was in the Top 10 on Netflix and is one of the highest watched specials on the platform in 2023.  She will continue this summer on her sold out theater and arena stand up tour called, Just Getting Started, and will next be seen on screen in the Amazon Prime feature, You’re Cordially Invited, starring alongside Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon, and directed/written by Nick Stoller.  Her first book, What in the World?, is set to be published by Random House/Convergent in September 2024. Variety named Leanne Morgan one of the Top 10 Comics to Watch for 2023.  Her recent press appearances include on the Today Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, PBS NewsHour, Sherri, and The Washington Post.

When not on the road, Leanne cherishes spending time in Knoxville, Tennessee with her husband, three children, two grandbabies, and two beagles.

One of comedy’s biggest up-and-coming stars is 58-years-old.

Leanne Morgan , a mother of three and grandmother to two, released her first Netflix special last year and is now embarking on the second leg of her nationwide ‘Just Getting Started Tour.’

“I’ll be sharing more stories of my real life, my family and my experiences and I hope people will still come away from this new hour saying, ‘this is my life- is Leanne spying on me?,’” said Morgan in a statement.

Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman Review – a little southern comfort

leanne-morgan-im-every-woman-review

We review the Netflix stand-up comedy special Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman, which was released on April 11, 2023.

Leanne Morgan is a veteran of the stand-up comedy game, as she has hit the stage for over twenty years.

However, Morgan is just starting to find her way with her first headlining tour in 2022, The Big Panty Tour . In 2023, she returns on tour with Just Getting Started . After recent success, she is now debuting with her first Netflix stand-up special, Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman .

Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman Review

Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman is a stand-up comedy special where Leanne tackles jokes about her life as a wife, her love of Jell-O salad, and her three kids.

The special opens with a simple opening with Leanne Morgan’s son announcing her to the stage. The setup is a typical theater look, with Morgan stating we are in Lexington, Kentucky.

She kicks off by blaming COVID and Vladimir Putin for getting heavier during the pandemic. Of course, she quickly says she likes to blame them but knows it’s her fault for eating too much jelly—a solid opening bit.

Morgan is about as southern as southern can get with her accent, delivery, and storytelling. She wisely chose to perform in front of an audience (Kentucky) that would get her references and jokes. I think some of these might go over the head of the younger generation or people unfamiliar with the South or its Southern slang.

For me, living in Tennessee, it caught on relatively quickly and was very relatable. Not every joke was perfect, but Morgan still had me laughing.

Morgan is the perfect storyteller that sometimes gets off the beat and the path of her stories. She’ll remind you of your dad, grandpa, or an elderly member of your family that loves to tell stories that might go on a little longer to get to the point.

Because of that, you often might find yourself lost in a joke, but Morgan does a solid job of reeling you back in with the next one. One thing I did love was her facial expressions. It’s definitely a special you will want to watch with your eyes and ears, not just your ears.

Is Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman good or bad?

I didn’t mind most of Morgan’s jokes as I laughed more than I didn’t. It won’t be the best stand-up comedy special you will see in 2023, but one that you will certainly laugh at while you watch.

Is Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman worth watching?

If you are a fan of a wide range of stand-up comedies, yes, I would recommend checking it out. That said, if you are looking for someone that is over the top and flashy that hits you with joke after joke without the stories, maybe this one isn’t for you.

Morgan won’t be for everyone, which is fine, but if you are willing to take a risk, check it out, there are many laughs.

What did you think of the Netflix stand-up comedy special Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman? Comment below.

Leanne Morgan inspires with later-career success and tour headed to Moon, Greensburg & NJ

The appalachia native appears alongside reese witherspoon & will ferrell in an upcoming wedding comedy.

leanne morgan stand up tour

Leanne Morgan can pinpoint the messy moment when she realized she had the skill to become a standup comedian.

It happened while Morgan was making a living by hawking jewelry at living room parties, tossing in a few jokes about motherhood as part of her sales pitch. On one such night, those jokes made a customer laugh so hard she peed her pants.

"She goes, 'I am so sorry, I got so tickled, I peed on Janet's couch'" Morgan said. "And we had to blot it, and that's when I really and truly thought, 'OK, I've got it. I really could do this.'"

So maybe wear your thick pants if you're headed to see the now full-fledged comedy star's Just Getting Started Tour, where she's likely to discuss everything from being a housewife, to sharing Jell-O recipes to doting on a new grandbaby.

Morgan's standup material is relatable enough to fill theaters, auditoriums, comedy festivals and now mid-sized arenas.

Her versatility is evident in next week's schedule, headlining the 4-year-old, 4,000-seat UPMC Events Center in Moon Township on March 21; then 1920s vaudeville theaters-turned-concert sites the Palace Theatre in Greensburg on March 22, and the Count Basie Center for The Arts in Red Bank, N.J. on March 23.

"Those beautiful old theaters are the best, and y'all got pretty ones in Pennsylvania," Morgan said in her thick, enchanting Tennessee accent. "As for arenas, I haven't done many, but I'm starting to do more and I'm getting used to them. It's different but I like them."

Morgan's star is rising; she's got 3 million social media followers; her own Netflix comedy special, and a prominent role in a wacky wedding comedy headed to theaters where she appears with Reese Witherspoon, Will Ferrell and Geraldine Viswanathan.

More: Hopewell house lands in Ethan Coen movie's party scene

"I play Reese Witherspoon's big sister, and we had a ball," Morgan said. "And I was scared to death because I'd never done anything like that, and I didn't know how things worked. Like they put a piece of tape on the floor, and you stand on it and say your line. I didn't know that."

Morgan's first book, "What in The World?" hits shelves in September.

"And I feel like I gave birth," she said. "I just turned in my last edits yesterday."

The book will detail her not-so-overnight success along with her comical musings on raising children.

She suggested to her literary agent that the book also include tales from her sinful single days in the 1980s.

"He said, 'You know what, you're not Joan Crawford yet. Why don't we save your sins for later? Why don't we just tell readers funny stories to introduce you to the world?' I thought that was so funny. Because I was telling everything that ever happened to me and he goes, 'Nobody wants to hear that right now, and let's do a cookbook in between. And then you can tell people about your sins in the '80s."

Morgan symbolically named her upcoming comedy shows the Just Getting Started Tour.

"Well, honey, I'm 58 and I got two grandbabies and I feel like I'm just getting started, but I've been doing comedy for 20-something years − 100 years it feels like," Morgan said. "And lord, there were years I couldn't get arrested. Nobody cared. Then this all happened to me in my 50s. And I just ... well it is, it's just now happening, so I named this the Just Getting Started Tour."

Fans tell Morgan her later-in-life stage success inspires them.

"They tell me, 'If you can do this, I can go back to school. I can start a business,'" Morgan said. "I feel like our society kind of acts like, well, it's just over for middle-aged women, and it's really not."

Even in her early adult years, Morgan deep down knew she wanted to do standup.

"But I'd gone to college, and I finished and I was too scared and didn't have any comedy clubs around. And I wanted to be a momma and get married and have babies, too, so I was just grasping. And then I started selling that jewelry and everybody noticed and wanted me to start speaking at their big things."

Hearing how much Morgan's humor helped with sales, the jewelry company started booking her for sales rallies.

"And then 500 women in a convention center would be saying to me, 'You need to be doing standup,' and that gave me the confidence to really try."

In 2001 she and her husband went for it, moving to San Antonio, where he found work with a big company after selling his own small business. Morgan finally had access to comedy clubs and began appearing at open mics.

"I got moved up pretty quick," she said.

Morgan worked her way through the comedy club ranks, earning a spot in the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal.

"This first started hitting for me right before the pandemic, when I started blowing up and selling out all over the United States," she said. "It felt like overnight even though it had been 20-some years. "

Morgan's first national headlining tour, her Big Panty Tour, brought her face-to-face with fans coast-to-coast.

"Women would say, 'Oh my gosh, you got me through my divorce' or whatever. And they were so sweet. I felt like I needed to go home and clean their house because I couldn't believe they were so good to me," Morgan said.

Then came a second tour and the Netflix special, and now her crowds are more of an even mix of men and women.

Morgan feels she's at a perfect point in her life to entertain them and keep all this growing fame under control.

"I don't mean to be sappy, but I feel like I'm smarter than I've ever been, I got more sense," Morgan said. "If this had happened to me when I was 20, lord knows what would have happened."

Leanne Morgan: Just Getting Started Tour

Morgan’s comedy has landed her at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and has brought her development deals for her own sitcom with ABC and Warner Brothers, writer/producer Matt Williams ( Rosanne and Home Improvement ), TV Land and with Sony Television.

Morgan has garnered over 2.5M followers across social media and her popular online stand-up special, So Yummy , has reached over 50M views on YouTube. Her fan base continues to grow with her relatability as she discusses everything from being a housewife, sharing Jell-O recipes to having a new grandbaby. Morgan has appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show , The View , and Nick at Nite’s Funniest Mom .

Now that her children are grown, Morgan is moving full steam ahead with a career rooted in her everyday comedy. In December 2022, she concluded The Big Panty Tour with Outback Presents which spanned 100+ shows in theaters across the U.S.  She also taped her first Netflix standup special which premieres on the platform on April 11, 2023.  Morgan is back on the road with her next 100+ show Just Getting Started theater and arena tour with Outback Presents. Her first book, What in the World? , is set to be published by Random House/Convergent, in August 2024.

When not on the road, Leanne cherishes spending time in Knoxville, Tennessee with her husband, three children, grandbaby, and two beagles.

Comedian Leanne Morgan, who has been taking the comedy scene by storm with her laid-back southern mom routines, has added a stop in Huntsville, Ala., on her Just Getting Started summer tour.

Morgan’s fanbase continues to grow: When she came to Huntsville in 2022, she performed in the Von Braun Center’s Concert Hall. For her stop June 29, 2024, she is performing in the much larger Propst Arena.

In addition, she is working on numerous outside projects. Her Netflix special “I’m Every Woman” begins streaming April 11 and there may be a sitcom in the works.

Morgan spent 22 years as a solid act on the comedy circuit before exploding into a A-list comedian.

Her IMDb profile says audiences find her comedy relatable “as she discusses everything from being a housewife, sharing Jell-O recipes to having a new grandbaby. She has appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, The View, Nick at Nite’s Funniest Mom and toured with the Southern Fried Chicks.”
