Kylie is about to release her new album, Disco.

Kylie's 30 greatest singles – ranked!

Over a career of more than 30 years, she’s been Indie Kylie, Moody Kylie and Mature Kylie – but who comes out on top?

30. Put Yourself in My Place (1994)

Her eponymous 1994 album was supposed to unveil a new, more grownup, hipper Kylie Minogue, free from the influence of Stock Aitken and Waterman : it was not the triumph some expected, but it did contain that rarest of things, a great Kylie ballad in the shape of the trip-hoppy Put Yourself in My Place.

29. Your Disco Needs You (2001)

Only a single in Europe and Australia, but it gets in the list because it is both preposterous and preposterously good fun. Clearly the result of a concerted effort to conjure up the campest song imaginable, it involves Village People backing vocals, an Abba-esque chorus and I Will Survive strings.

28. Breathe (1997)

Impossible Princess in 1997 doubled down on its predecessor’s fruitless quest for alternative cred, but people did not want Kylie singing Manic Street Preachers songs and quoting Billy Childish poems. Still, it has its moments, as evidenced by the shimmering synths and Balearic beat of Breathe, co-produced by Soft Cell’s Dave Ball.

27. Wow (2007)

Exuberant filtered disco-house, Wow’s big selling point is its hook. There’s not a great deal to it – the title repeated three times, the singer’s voice doused in electronic effects – but it lodges instantly in your head: not one of Kylie’s better-remembered singles, it lives on today as a Radio 2 jingle.

Kylie performing in Sydney in 2006.

26. Timebomb (2012)

Timebomb felt like an afterthought on release – an adjunct to the CD box set and retrospective tour announced to celebrate the singer’s silver jubilee in the music business – but it is a great track in its own right, powered by a surprisingly dirty, distorted electronic riff.

25. The One (2007)

You could mistake the sound of The One, if not the lyrics, for Pet Shop Boys. Its relative lack of commercial success may have had more to do with the fickleness of the mainstream pop market than its combination of shimmering synths, stadium rock guitar riff and big chorus.

24. Better Than Today (2010)

Minogue said she felt “let down” by the fairly frosty reception accorded Better Than Today, blaming her soon-to-be former record label. Co-produced by Stuart Price, its intro seemingly influenced by MGMT’s Time to Pretend and its vocal melody naggingly familiar, it is certainly a better single than its relatively lowly chart placing suggests.

23. Crystallize (2014)

Crystallize was left off 2014’s Kiss Me Once, later turning up as a standalone single that did not attract much attention: perhaps its radio play was hampered by the fact that she somehow manages to pronounce the word “suddenly” in a way that sounds like she is singing “sodomy”. Co-written by Dev Hynes , the song itself is all Abba-esque charm.

22. Hand on Your Heart (1989)

One of the better Kylie Minogue singles from the era before she demanded a change from her initial cutsey image and Stock Aitken and Waterman began pulling out all the stops on her behalf, the song itself – most notably the bridge and chorus – is strong enough to withstand the identikit production job.

21. I Was Gonna Cancel (2014)

The second single from her 12th album Kiss Me Once, I Was Gonna Cancel barely grazed the charts, stalling at number 59. It deserved a better fate. Written and produced by Pharrell Williams, it is equal parts Daft Punk’s Get Lucky and Beyoncé’s Green Light: 10 years earlier, it would have been a smash.

20. Come Into My World (2001)

Come Into My World is a rare occasion on which a remix of a Kylie single tops the original. Another Rob Davis/Cathy Denis composition, the official single is cut from a similar musical cloth to Can’t Get You Out of My Head, but the analogue synth-heavy electroclash overload of Fischerspooner’s version is the one you need to hear.

19. Step Back in Time (1990)

Notwithstanding the slight oddness of hearing Kyliee – who was born in 1968 – demanding to know if we remember “the old days” of late 60s/early 70s soul, Step Back in Time’s loving, reference-packed homage to the music of Stock Aitken and Waterman’s youth is a total joy.

18. Kids (2000)

A duet that appeared on both Robbie Williams and Kylie’s albums – and which the latter has subsequently performed with everyone from Rick Astley to Bono – Kids captures the Williams/Guy Chambers hitmaking machine in full flower: lyrics audibly influenced by Ian Dury , beat sampled from Sisters Love’s 1973 soul classic Give Me Your Love, big old stadium chorus.

17. In Your Eyes (2001)

Fever, from 2001, may well be the pinnacle of what Neil Tennant would call Kylie’s second imperial phase: an album almost preposterously overstuffed with potential hit singles. In Your Eyes was a more straightforward proposition than Can’t Get You Out of My Head, but it is a contagious, classy pop song nonetheless.

16. Where the Wild Roses Grow (1996)

In an era when boundaries between pop and “alternative” music are blurred, it is hard to imagine just how jarring it once was to see Kylie with Nick Cave, singing about having her head smashed in with a rock. But Where the Wild Roses Grow is not a novelty: it is a classic Cave ballad, and the apex of Kylie’s indie period.

15. Say Something (2020)

The first single from Kylie’s forthcoming, normal-service-is-resumed album Disco features Radio Ga Ga-influenced electronics and a pure bubblegum chorus. You could, if you were so inclined, read its lyrics as a comment on Brexit – “We all got wanderlust, in the darkest place, so we’re going with our heart, yeah, it’s all the rage” – but, let’s face it, they are probably not.

14. 2 Hearts (2007)

A cover of a track written and originally released by electronic duo Kish Mauve, 2 Hearts represents something of a musical departure for Kylie. It is in effect the sleazy electro-glam of Goldfrapp’s Strict Machine put through a glittery Kylie filter: less intense, ominous or redolent of a sex dungeon, it still works.

Kylie on a British tour in 2002.

13. I Believe in You (2004)

New tracks appended to greatest hits collections usually carry a tang of “Will this do?”, but I Believe in You, co-written by the Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears and Babydaddy for 2004’s Ultimate Kylie, is a cut above: I Feel Love synths and a lyric that shades into Can’t Get You Out of My Head stalker territory, lends the killer chorus a hint of creepiness.

12. What Do I Have to Do (1990)

Kylie’s third album, Rhythm of Love, was the pinnacle of her Stock Aitken and Waterman years, as strong an argument as there is that those who dismissed the production trio as the embodiment of evil were wrong: What Do I Have to Do is great, a shamelessly pop-facing take on Italo-house.

11. Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi (1987)

A lot of Kylie’s early singles suffer from the application of Stock Aitken and Waterman’s blaring, cheap, one-size-fits-all production, which has dated horribly, but Je Ne Sais Pas Pourqoui saw them dial down the tinniness to something approaching subtlety: it also had a genuinely lovely tune.

10. On a Night Like This (2000)

On a Night Like This betrays its origins as a track intended for a Swedish Euro-dance singer called Pandora in its frantic beat, acid house-infused synth line and subtle nods to ATB’s trance smash 9pm (Til I Come), but it is really all about its chorus, which is completely indelible.

9. Dancing (2018)

Recorded in Nashville, the Golden album was a bit of a mess, its sound lunging at everything from Radio 2-friendly middle-of-the-road ballads to Latin pop to country, but Dancing is the exception: a gleaming country/pop-house hybrid, complete with a hook that bizarrely recalls Ocean Colour Scene’s The Day We Caught the Train.

8. Love at First Sight (2002)

The pop flipside of its predecessor Can’t Get You Out of My Head’s strangeness, Love at First Sight’s backing track offers a pretty brazen reworking of Daft Punk’s Digital Love, released less than a year before, but the song itself is fantastic: a masterpiece of the songwriter-for-hire’s dark art.

7. All the Lovers (2010)

All the Lovers is both anthemic and strangely melancholy: amid the fizzing synths, there is something elegiac about its implausibly catchy chorus. Winningly, she declined to remove the same-sex couples from its video and subsequently retooled the song live as a homage to her LGBTQ+ fans.

6. Slow (2003)

A strikingly minimal concoction of drum machine and analogue synths, Slow’s surprisingly skewed brand of pop is understated by the singer’s usual standards and hypnotically irresistible: entirely electronic, but warm and sensual, and apparently Kylie’s favourite of her own tracks. The Chemical Brothers’ characteristically intense remix is fabulous, too.

5. Shocked (1990)

Most Stock Aitken and Waterman artists who attempted to assert their individuality came to grief, but when Kylie did it, they appeared to rise to the challenge, abandoning their identikit sound, writing better, classier songs and, in the case of Shocked, commissioning a remix by DNA which is very 1990 – breakbeat, house piano, rap – and a delight.

4. Better the Devil You Know (1990)

They may have been cursed with no sense of quality control, but Stock Aitken and Waterman could be masterful pop craftsmen and Better the Devil You Know is the evidence: an effortlessly soaring melody, a perfect updating of disco’s cocktail of jubilant music and lyrical heartbreak.

3. Can’t Get You Out of My Head (2001)

It became so ubiquitous that it is easy to forget what a weird pop single Can’t Get You Out of My Head is: there are no verses, just a chorus and a queasy-sounding bridge; there is a distinct darkness about its coolly delivered lyric about destructive obsession. And the costumes in its video appear like an eery prediction of personal protective equipment.

2. Confide in Me (1994)

The moment when Kylie’s bid to reinvent herself as a more self-consciously sophisticated artist looked like it might work perfectly, Confide in Me is atypical among her greatest singles and an utterly fantastic song: sultry, atmospheric, bolstered by strings playing the melody of Jane’s a capella 1983 indie hit It’s a Fine Day.

1. Spinning Around (2000)

Over the course of her career, Kylie has tried her hand at being Indie Kylie, Moody Kylie, Mature Kylie and indeed Covering Toots and the Maytals on a Children’s TV Show Kylie (see her 2009 version of Monkey Man with the Wiggles ). But the fact remains that Kylie was essentially put on this earth to make glitzy, euphoric, balls-out pop bangers, and Spinning Around is the glitziest and most euphoric of the lot. A bold restatement of core values following her 90s dalliances with the left field; a perfect pop-disco nugget, a single only the terminally joyless could fail to enjoy.

Kylie Minogue (born 28th May 1968) is a globally renowned and beloved pop singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Australia, currently residing in London, UK, achieving success over a career spanning three decades.

Kylie Minogue first achieved fame in her role in the television soap opera, "Neighbours." She began her musical career in 1987, signing a contract with British songwriting trio Stock Aitken Waterman, after her first single "The Loco-Motion" was hugely successful, becoming the highest-selling single of the decade in Australia. "I Should Be So Lucky" was Kylie's breakout hit in 1988 and remains a pop classic.

In 1992 she left Stock Aitken Waterman, choosing to go it alone and establish herself as a performer in her own right. In 1994 she collaborated with Nick Cave on the song "Where the Wild Roses Grow" which garnered artistic credibility for Kylie, as she moved away from her image as the "girl next door" pop star. In 2000 she returned to success with the singles "Spinning Around" and "Can't Get You Out of My Head" which reached number one in over 40 countries. Through her album "Fever" (2001) she broke into the American market, which had before alluded her. This release led to achieving four ARIA airways as well as two Brit Awards for Best International Female Solo Artist and Best International Album.

Throughout her career, Kylie Minogue has developed and evolved her music to a more mature, dance orientated sound incorporating electronica, disco and R & B influences. Whilst attempting to establish herself as a more serious artist, she has always maintained a sense of joy and fun within her music, which has helped her become such a treasured star in Australia and her adopted home in the UK.

In the middle of a tour in 2005, Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer, which forced her to cancel the tour. Thankfully, she successfully combatted the disease, allowing her to continue producing brilliant music. Following her illness, Minogue became an important figure in raising awareness and support of health research as well as humanitarian issues around the world. Her contributions were acknowledged through an honorary doctorate degree from Anglia Ruskin University as well as being appointed as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Kylie Minogue has featured as a judge on BBC One's talent competition, "The Voice" for the first season and the third season of Australia's version of the show. She also released her 12th studio album in March 2014, titled "Kiss Me Once" which reached number one in the Australian charts and number two in the UK.

Live reviews

Kylie puts on a proper pop show and gives you your money's worth. The sets (giant skulls! Pegasus!), the lights, the videos, the dancers, the costumes, and, of course, THE SHOES (thigh high cut-out Louboutins!) are all fabulous. In fact, Kylie’s shows are often like a mini version of Cirque du Soleil, with many of her dancers doubling as aerialists, and sets that would put most Broadway musicals to shame.

Ms. Minogue’s set lists are always impeccably balanced between the new material that is the reason for the tour, more recent hits, and timeless classics from back in the day. She often mixes things up with new song arrangements and medleys. And there is no doubt that Kylie is up there giving each song her all; no 'miming' here.

Kylie is the consummate showgirl, and (as one of my fellow Kylie fans put it so succinctly) she is always about love and connecting with her audience. It’s all about having a good time no matter your age, orientation, or other demographic info. The audiences/fans at Kylie shows are always a friendly bunch, and the atmosphere is nothing short of festive. Even if you attend a show solo, you certainly won’t feel alone.

I am Mario from Hamburg Germany. I went with my old friend Nico to see Kylie Minogue live! It was an amazing experience which I will cherish forever!

We were in the Golden Circle front row to the stage catwalk and had the chance to see Kylie just 1 ft away!!! She blew us and the whole audience away. She is a true professional and also natural pure live performer. From very close view you would never think this woman is 50 years old. Her look is stunning and her voice was amazing powerful and strong and her dance routines magnificent! She sang 60% of songs from her current album Golden and mixed it up great with her old hits back from the beginning to her big greatest hits for which we all love her! I will also attend her German shows in November in Munich, Berlin and my hometown Hamburg and I can’t wait to see her live again!

She brings so much joy fun and emotion to the stage and I always have a big smile on my face. She is the one and only true most wonderful and beautiful pop princess on earth! We’re not young, we’re not old we are GOLDEN! Love you Kylie always and forever! Your German Fan Mario xxx

Ok, I’ll start by saying I am a hardcore fan and I’d love a Kylie show no matter what. However, like many fans that know every song, sometimes we would like to hear some of the over played known songs replaced with new material or old/rare gems. On first sight of the setlist there was a mix, but sighs over The Locomotion, Kids, Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, Love At First Sight being dusted off and sang again. But, I have to say, the tweaks, reworkings amd mash ups made them fresh and fit. While I would have loved to hear What Kind Of Fool, Word Is Out and the recent album track penned for the fans Sincerely Yours, Kylie has a tough job of pleasing casual fans, hardcore fans and putting on a fresh show. This, she has achieved. No feathers and space age costumes, but Kylie dazzled and looked amazing, more importantly; sounded fabulous. Still plenty of glitter and dancing from the backing dancers with Kylie free to focus on vocals and occasional moves or free styling. It’s a show not to missed and whether your first Kylie show or been there since day one, you’re in for a treat!

matt-buckeridge’s profile image

Kylie Minogue is Australia's original diva. She has been a frequenter of the charts since her runaway singles 'Locomotion/The Loco-Motion' and 'I Should Be So Lucky' topped charts around the world in 1987 and won her an instant following. She is considered to be one of the most likeable live personalities with an incredible sense of humour, quick wit and ability to build connection with entire arenas.

A definitive pop star who has an impossible amount of hits has crafted one of the most fast paced and visually engaging live tours for latest album 'Kiss Me Once'. The selection of complex dance routines, lavish stage props and a near unnecessary level of costume changes is like a masterclass of what makes a world class diva.

The music selection is flawless with 'Into Your Arms', 'On a Night Like This', 'Wow' and 'Get Outta My Way' all being performed tonight. It is the encore of 'Into The Blue' where Kylie really showcases her vocal and demonstrates her heightened understanding of the pop genre which means she remains relevant nearly three decades after her first release.

Amazing show. Greatest hits and what a catalogue to choose from. Perfect set list. Personally I’m done with Kids and Especially For You, but they are crowd favourites, so it fits the audience of the Summer shows and more casual fans than the die hard fans that see and go to every show! I would love to see another anti tour for the fans. The lesser known tracks. Kylie will never beat the Fever and Aphrodite tour dramatics these days, but she still puts on a blooming good show. Put your glitter on, leave your troubles at the door and be prepared to dance your bottom off!

Fantastic performance with a mix off new songs from her latest golden album and her older hits. This wasn’t just a concert but a true stage show with plenty of dancing and costume changes. Kylie is absolutely stunning vocally and in appearance. Who would have thought she was old enough to be celebrating 30 years since her first single.

I would highly recommend seeing Kylie if you get a chance, just a shame we were up in the gods and not closer to the stage but that shows the interest in her that all the good tickets were snapped up so quickly

I had a really golden time! Couldn’t wait to see la Minogue again. It was my 11 time and my 2nd time in Manchester - which is all the time supposed to be a great audience. Now to Kylie and golden tour! Fantastic stage - this time she fills much better the catwalk as years ago, great setlist unfortunately 1-2 songs in my opinion where missing - and simple Kylie thru the last 30 years with a little touch of country! Loved it from the beginning! Go there and just enjoy the golden showgirl it might be here best show so far! Perfect

I have been a big fan of Kylie for many years now and have seen most of her concerts but the Golden Tour is by far her best. She sang songs from her new album and songs from the past but her studio 54 medley was out of this world. Absolutely fantastic. The venue in Frankfurt was small and gave a great personal experience. Kylie is truly a great artist and is always worth seeing in concert

What can I say??

Kylie never disappoints!

The new direction suits her voice. The songs are amazing... from beautiful ballads to downright country square dancing realness. And performed some beautiful songs from her back catalogue

She is amazing Live.. what a voice.

Let's hope this new era will be Golden indeed. She sure as hell deserves it

Pop fans rejoice as Madonna and Kylie Minogue perform together during Celebration tour

Pop icons Kylie Minogue and Madonna performed a duet together in celebration of International Women’s Day , a moment music fans have been waiting four decades for.

Despite being billed as rivals, the two pop queens have often praised one another and are each known in their own right as dominating forces in the music industry. However, they had never performed live together... until now.

Kylie joined Madonna at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, near Los Angeles, California, for a rendition of the Australian star’s hit single “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” on Thursday (7 March), as part of Madonna’s ongoing Celebration tour.

Wearing cowboy boots and a leather jacket, Madonna danced beside the “Princess of Pop”, who was dressed in leather-style pattern trousers and a black T-shirt.

After performing Kylie’s song, the duo performed the Grammy-winning empowerment anthem “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor, a favourite among LGBT+ music fans.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, Minogue said: “Madonna It’s been a long time coming!!! Loved being with you!!!! Celebration Tour and it is now International Women’s Day …. Thank you and Love Love Love.”

She also shared a clip of her dancing through the crowd while wearing a T-shirt bearing Madonna’s name on the front. Madonna returned the tribute by wearing a “Kylie Minogue” T-shirt during her performance.

Kylie, 55, has been enjoying something of a career renaissance in recent months , winning a Grammy for her 2023 summer smash “Padam Padam” and recently being crowned with the Global Icon award at the Brits last weekend.

With nine No 1 albums, she claims the third most UK chart-topping records of any female artist, following Madonna and Taylor Swift.

Madonna’s Celebration tour sees the Queen of Pop performing a string of her greatest hits, from “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer” to “Holiday” and “Hung Up”.

It was rescheduled last year after the US artist contracted a serious bacterial infection that resulted in a stay in intensive care.

Madonna addressed her health scare in an earlier show at the Kia Forum, where she thanked her doctor and his medical team, many of whom were watching from the audience.

“It was a strange thing to finally not feel like I was in control,” Madonna said, adding that, despite suffering broken bones and having a titanium hip, “nothing can stop me.”

“This summer I had a surprise,” she said. “It’s called a near-death experience. Yes, and I’m not kidding. It was pretty scary. Obviously, I didn’t know for four days, because I was in an induced coma. But when I woke up, the first word I said was ‘No.’

“Anyway, that’s what my assistant tells me. And I’m pretty sure that God was saying to me, ‘Do you wanna come with us? You wanna come with me? You wanna go this way?’ And I said, ‘No. No.'” She emphasised: “No!”

“You are patient and you are kind, and you still are. You still help me take care of everybody I know that’s sick,” she later added. “Thank you so much, wherever you are.”

She is next set to perform at the Kia Forum again on Saturday and Monday, before moving on to the Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs next week.
