Virgin Voyages Food Allergies and Special Diets Guide

Spending several days at sea with no control over your dietary options can feel overwhelming for folks with special diets and allergies. But with more cruise lines making an effort to accommodate different diets and prevent cross-contamination, cruising is easier than ever.

I recently checked out Virgin Voyages on an  8-night Caribbean cruise . I sailed on the Valiant Lady, but all four of Virgin Voyages’ ships (Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, Scarlet Lady, and Brilliant Lady) have the same dining options.

As someone with lactose intolerance who follows a plant-based diet, I was impressed with how accommodating the cruise line was. There is certainly some room for growth, but as I mentioned in my  review of Virgin Voyages’ vegan options , I would go on a Virgin Voyages cruise again.

Curious about Virgin Voyages’ food allergies and special diet menu options? You’ve come to the right place! Keep reading for an overview of how this new cruise line has responded to different diets, and understand whether it’s a good idea to book a sailing with Virgin Voyages.

Virgin’s warm welcome to folks with various food allergies and diets is just one of many ways the cruise line is innovating the cruise industry. All Virgin Voyages cruises have twenty dining options. They also do not have any buffets, meaning you always have an attentive waiter who can put in special requests for you with the chef.

Unfortunately, Virgin Voyages is not equally accommodating to all special diets and food allergy needs. For instance, it’s fairly easy to find vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free food on Virgin Voyages. And Virgin is also very accommodating of anyone with a specific food allergy. However, the cruise line is not very accommodating to folks looking for halal and kosher meals.

What it’s like ordering food with a special diet or allergy on Virgin Voyages

What impressed me most about my time on Virgin Voyages as a vegan was not the food itself (though there was plenty of delicious vegan food); it was how the crew responded when I mentioned my diet.

Anytime my husband and I sat down at a restaurant on board, the server would ask if we had any dietary restrictions. We’d always be met with smiles and assurances when we responded that we were vegan. The way the crew communicated and handled our special requests always instilled confidence in us.

When necessary, the crew will prepare food separately, and they are always stocked with special ingredients to make substitutions. Even if a restaurant menu seemed like it wouldn’t have any options for us, they always had something we could eat (some restaurants are better than others, though!)

Overview of Specific Diets and Allergies

Virgin Voyages Food Allergies

Just a few of the many vegan-friendly options at Gunbae on Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages Food Allergies: Nut Allergy, Lactose Intolerance, Shellfish Allergy, etc.

As mentioned above, Virgin Voyages is accommodating to folks with food allergies.

If you need your food prepared separately, the crew will do it for you. You should be able to eat at every restaurant, but if you’re uncertain about your specific allergy, be sure to contact Virgin Voyages beforehand.

Virgin Voyages Gluten-Free Options

Whether you’re celiac or gluten-free by choice, you’ll be able to find gluten-free food to enjoy at every single restaurant on board. Virgin Voyages menus clearly mark gluten-free options, but many of the non-gluten-free menu items can also be made gluten-free by special request.

Virgin Voyages Vegetarian and Vegan Options

Like gluten-free folks, vegetarians and vegans can find something to eat at every single restaurant on board. Even restaurants that don’t have many veggie options on the menu (such as the Wake and Extra Virgin) will serve you plant-based food.

Other Special Diets on Virgin Voyages: Kosher, Halal, and More

As I mentioned above, Virgin Voyages is not (yet) able to accommodate kosher and halal meal requests. I hope this changes soon and Virgin Voyages becomes more inclusive.

Meal Options at Virgin Voyages’ Beach Club at Bimini

Most Caribbean Virgin Voyages cruises stop at Virgin’s iconic Beach Club at Bimini.

Lunch is served at the Bimini Beach Club (included in the price of the cruise). My husband and I were very happy with the diversity of vegan options available. The kitchen crew was willing to make even more menu options vegan-friendly by leaving off certain sauces.

Final Thoughts: Virgin Voyages Food Allergies + Special Diets

Given my strict diet, I never thought taking a cruise would be worth it. When I travel, I prefer to have my own kitchen to prep food and always book accommodations near vegan-friendly restaurants.

But I took a chance and booked a cruise with Virgin Voyages, and it blew me away! I loved how accommodating the Virgin crew was to my dietary restrictions, and I really enjoyed most of the food I was served.

If you’re considering booking a Virgin Voyages cruise and have more questions about your specific food allergy or special diet, reach out to the Virgin Voyages team.

And if you’re getting ready for an upcoming Virgin Voyages cruise, be sure to check out my other  Virgin Voyages travel guides , and make sure you have all your essentials! A few of my can’t-miss items for a Virgin Voyages cruise include:

Something Red

Scarlet Night is one of the most iconic events on board. Make sure you have something red packed!

There is a pajama party on the first night of every Virgin cruise. Pack some cute pajamas !

Get an extra pair (or two) of sunglasses—you’ll thank me later! I love SOJOS sunglasses .

You’ll need something to carry your things around the ship—and on cruise port days!

GoPro Camera

If you have any water adventures planned during port days, order a GoPro to capture those memories!

A Kindle can be a gamechanger for reading on vacation. They’re fairly affordable and easy to travel with.

Essential Cruise Travel Resources

Have a cruise coming up soon? There are a lot of travel companies out there, but some are better than others. After traveling to dozens of countries and living abroad on several continents, here are some of my favorite websites and resources for planning unforgettable trips.

💪 Travel Insurance : Travel insurance is an essential for any trip—cruise or not! I use SafetyWing , which has affordable rates and coverage for many adventure sports.

🚠 Tours + Activities : Viator (owned by Trip Advisor) is my go-to site for comparing and booking experiences with local tour operators on cruise port days.

📱 Easy phone plans abroad : Use this company to get an eSIM for phone coverage while cruising—without getting a SIM card or canceling your existing plan (unless you want to!)

🎒 Essentials always in my bag : Check out my ‘ in my bag ‘ page for the items I always have in my luggage.

🚗 Car Rentals : Use DiscoverCars , a highly-rated platform for comparing and booking rental cars around the world.

How to request vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or kosher meals on your next cruise

virgin voyages kosher

On the whole, you'll find cruise lines are very accommodating, not like land-based establishments that may be accommodating where others are unwilling to adjust recipes.  This doesn't mean that execution is perfect.  The good news is that there are a few simple steps you can take to help ensure you'll have the best dining experience possible.

Let Your Travel Agent Know About Dietary Restrictions

Frequent readers will know that I'm a huge advocate for using a  good  travel agent ( read more here ), and this is another great reason.  Once your travel agent knows, he or she should be the one taking care to ensure that your restrictions are noted on your airline reservations, your cruise, even your hotel reservations in some cases.  As I write this, I'm on my way to the airport (no, I'm not driving) and once I board my flight I'll have a vegetarian meal because my travel agent knows my preferences (hopefully Brock also mentioned that I really hate peanuts and olives).

This is really step one, making sure the cruise line knows about your dietary needs before the cruise even starts.  It helps them allocate resources, and depending on your need, the cruise line may even reach out to you with more questions.  If you didn't book with a travel agent, you can always mention this to the customer service team at the cruise line.  If related to a severe allergy or other medical problem, be sure to contact the special needs team for the cruise line with which you're sailing.

Speak With Your Head Waiter On Embarkation Day

You've let the cruise line know you're coming, but now it's time for your first point of contact on board.  On most cruise lines, there is a head waiter or similar dining crew member available on embarkation day to accommodate dining request.  This includes table assignment requests, menu inquiries, and of course, dietary restrictions .  Once you've boarded check the embarkation-day schedule or simply ask a crew member where you can go to speak to someone about dining requests.  This person will look up your room number and should see the notes previously put there by your travel agent, and there may even be information about how they are going to accommodate your request.  This is there first chance to dig deeper and ask questions about the exact nature of your restrictions, what your dining plans are for the cruise, etc.

Quick tip - speak with someone on embarkation day even if you don't plan to go to the main dining room.  This person will discuss your needs and preferences and enter them into the ship's reservation system that is used by all dining venues.

Be Honest About What You Want, Not Just What Is Acceptable - No One Wants Salad Every Night Of A Cruise

virgin voyages kosher

On many cruises, we request an Indian dish each night in addition to other items we might want from the menu.  Indian food may or may not be your thing, but this is an example of just asking - the worst thing that happens is that they can't accommodate your request.  This holds true for private islands in the Caribbean.   Disney Cruise Line for example will cook anything we ask for (within reason of course) and have it ready on Castaway Cay, but if I simply asked if there were vegetarian options, I might be eating a veggie-burger and fries.

Be Clear If You Have An Allergy Or Other Intolerance

Many restaurants on land and sea now have procedures for accommodating guests with food allergies.  These procedures often involve communicating directly with a chef, using a different prep area to avoid cross-contamination, etc.  If you simply ask for a dish without an ingredient you're allergic to, they won't know to follow these procedures.  They may also then open up about other options and suggestions.  Either way, this is important for your safety, so speak up!

Not Satisfied? Ask To Speak With Someone Else

I've found that most people really want to help, but that alone doesn't ensure solid execution.  If you don't feel someone is being helpful enough or understanding the nature of your request, ask someone else.  For example, most any of the dining staff will be understanding and helpful, but vegetarianism and veganism is much more prevalent in some cultures, so if I have the option, I'll always look for an Indian crew member in the dining area that might be able to help me out, as India has a very large vegan and vegetarian population..

On a very similar note, this also means that you should bring things to someone's attention if they're not working out.  Labeling for example is something I notice isn't done very well at times, but on two cruises recently (on very different cruise lines), I simply brought it up once and this was immediately corrected.  This is helpful if you're like me and enjoy the variety that buffets offer.

Extra Considerations If Keeping Kosher

While all major cruise lines can accommodate kosher guests, you should know that your experience will vary greatly based on the cruise line and even specific cruise ship.  Why?  Space is at a premium on ships, so maintaining additional sets of cookware, a separate prep area, etc is rarely practical.  Many cruise lines use meals prepared at kosher facilities on land and then warm them onboard.  While I've heard the meals are often satisfying, that's a far cry from what you may expect from a dining experience.  Some ships in the past however, have had separate kosher kitchens - in fact we toured one such galley on the QE2 many years ago.  We're reaching out to cruise lines for more details on current practices, but if you have an idea of what ship you're interested in, have your travel agent reach out to find out exactly how they cater to those keeping kosher.

Dining with dietary restrictions is much easier now than it was just a few years ago, and it shouldn't be any different when you're on vacation.  There are plenty of helpful staff looking to make your vacation more enjoyable, so don't be afraid to plan ahead, speak up on board, and, importantly, give feedback during and after your cruise.  Yeah, sometimes it may take a bit more work than other times, but out of all my cruises I've never come back hungry or dissatisfied.

Good question, can someone answer please.

I called and kosher food is not provided

Also consider the implications of electronic devices on Shabbos, like the Princess Medallion which is used to open your cabin door, and electronic toilet flushers.

Then there is the point brought up by yvwords. You will be travelling on Shabbat, unless your cruise is from Sunday to Friday.

Yes, of course you would have to take your own cutlery and dishes. The pre-packaged meals need to be heated and delivered unopened, as I said.

What to Expect on Virgin Voyages Compared to Other Cruise Lines (Differences, What to Know, & More)

Never sailed on Virgin Voyages and not quite sure what to expect? Maybe you’ve seen the advertisements and weren’t sure exactly how it compared to other major cruise lines like Carnival, Royal Caribbean or Norwegian.

Or maybe you saw that it was adults only and wanted to know more before you spend your hard-earned money on sailing a relatively new cruise line?

So what’s Virgin Voyages like? How is it different from other lines? And what else should you know before you sail? Below, we dive into these questions and give you the real scoop of everything about the cruise line.

How Is Virgin Voyages Different Than Other Cruise Lines?

Scarlet Lady docked in Miami.

Trying to explain all the differences between Virgin and more traditional cruise lines is a challenge. Put bluntly, there are a lot of changes both big and small.

Let’s start with being adults only. That actually means much more than simply there are no kids running around the ship.

Instead, everything about the cruise can be tailored to adult tastes. Entertainment on the ship is more mature, such as drag shows in the nightclub. Many events go on until later at night than on a normal cruise. The food offered is more adventurous and upscale (though traditional options are available). The amenities offered around the ship are also different. Instead of waterslides and putt-putt, it’s yoga classes, tattoo parlors, and fitness equipment.

Along with these changes, Virgin also seems to have taken a hard look at traditional things in cruising and made changes that will appeal to many. For instance, the cruise director, art auctions, and roving photographers are out. Instead of a buffet where everyone serves themselves, the cruise line offers a food hall with a number of spots to eat where food is either prepared as you order or plated for you if already made.

There’s no main dining room or formal night. Instead, Virgin Voyages has several different sit down restaurants that are all included with your fare. Gratuities are included in your fare as well, as is wi-fi service.

Bottom line: It’s much more of an all-inclusive feel on the ship, with more that aims to cater to adults that you simply wouldn’t find on other lines.

What’s Included on Virgin Voyages?

One of the big differences we mentioned above is that a number of items that are typically an extra charge on a cruise are included in your fare. Of course, your room, food, and entertainment on the ship are all included. But so are the following items:

  • All restaurants on the ship
  • Crewmember gratuities
  • Basic non-alcoholic drinks, including soda
  • Basic wi-fi
  • Fitness classes

What you will still have to pay out of pocket for are things like casino gambling, spa treatments, shore excursions, and alcoholic drinks. Still, between food, gratuities, and wi-fi alone, the included items add up to hundreds of dollars per passenger.

What’s the Crowd Like Onboard?

Pool on Scarlet Lady from Virgin Voyages

Step onto the ship and you’ll likely notice that your other passengers overall are a little different than on some other lines. Compared to most lines, we think that Virgin Voyages sees passengers that skew younger and a bit more fashionable.

One thing you don’t have to worry about is fitting in. While marketing for Virgin seems to focus on the “cool” factor with lots of beautiful and trendy people, there are all sorts of people on the ship — young, old, black, white, beautiful and not-so-beautiful, gay, straight.

Overall, the crowd seems very inclusive and everyone was friendly as you’d expect on a normal cruise.

Is There a Difference Between Ships?

Anyone who has sailed before knows that so much of your cruise is actually spent onboard the ship. In many ways, the ship is the actual main destination of your cruise, not the ports of call.

Typically there is a major difference between newer and older ships. However, since Virgin Voyages is still a new line, it only has three ships (with a fourth on the way). These vessels all have the same layout. So whether you are on Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, or Resilient Lady, you’ll have a similar experience.

It also means you don’t have to worry about picking the right ship for your cruise. You really only have one option.

What’s the Atmosphere Like on the Ship?

virgin voyages kosher

Every cruise line has its own personality, and Virgin Voyages is no different. In our view, the atmosphere definitely tends to be more modern and a bit more “cool” than what’s seen on other lines. If Instagram built a cruise ship, it might look a bit like Virgin.

There’s a lot of use of color (especially lights) to set the mood for different spaces — even down to the wake coming off the back of the ship.

Around the ship are lots of seating and daybeds built for two, which combined with the red you see everywhere, adds to the “sexiness” of the cruise ship.

In fact, we found that most often the atmosphere can change depending on time of day. During most of the day, the atmosphere seems to focus more on relaxation and wellness. There are yoga classes, the vibe is relaxed, and generally slow-paced.

In the late afternoon and evening, things change up a bit with the evening programming that’s more focused on entertainment and partying, including Scarlet Night when everything is doused in red light and the nightclub can go until 3 a.m.

One other note: Overall, we found the staff to be a step above what’s on other cruise lines. Generally any cruise staff is going to be upbeat and friendly. On Virgin Voyages, it simply seemed more genuine and as if the staff had a strong camaraderie between each other. It’s hard to explain, but it was a feeling of the staff being happy you were there.

What Are the Cabins Like?

virgin voyages kosher

As you’d expect given the atmosphere on the ship, that “cool” factor extends to the cabin. You can expect the layout of the cruise cabin to be similar to other lines. You’ll have your bed, the bathroom, closet/storage, and balcony (with a hammock swing) if you choose that room type.

But cabins also have some upgraded touches. In a small (but loved) perk, Virgin offers a carafe of water and glasses. That means you don’t have to bring or buy bottles of water or drink out of the bathroom faucet just to get a swig of water in your cabin.

There are also some higher-end touches. In the cabin shower, there’s a rainfall showerhead included, instead of just the sprayer on the end of a wand. Your room is controlled by a tablet that acts as the remote control and can be used to dim lights, and even activate different colors to set the mood. Of course, if you don’t want to use the tablet, manual controls and a TV remote are also offered.

Bottom line: Much of the cabin will be familiar, but with some upgraded features that make it feel nicer than the average cruise room.

What Is The Band?

virgin voyages kosher

If you’ve cruised before, it was likely on a line that has a credit card style room key that served to open your room, check you on and off the ship, and charge items to your onboard account.

On Virgin Voyages, you have “The Band” instead. This is a stylish little bracelet (complete with an anchor clasp) that holds a gray tag. This serves the same function as the room keycard. You swipe it on your door sign to unlock the room. It’s scanned when you come and go on the ship, and it’s scanned whenever you make a purchase onboard.

It’s a bit easier than having to dig out your card each time to need it, but it does have a tendency to want to come off occasionally.

What Sort of Entertainment Is There on the Ship?

virgin voyages kosher

You’d expect that a ship focused on adults might have different entertainment, and in this case, you’re right.

First, the biggest difference we noticed is that Virgin doesn’t offer a traditional large theater that seats hundreds and hundreds at one time. Instead, they have smaller venues. As a result, there aren’t the big production shows like you see elsewhere.

Instead, the shows are more intimate in crowd size, but still feature amazing talent. One show we say was an acrobatic program between a red team and blue team that features climbing a 25-foot pole in the middle of the stage with no harness, flips after being launched in the air on a see-saw, juggling, and more.

Other shows included a mentalist and comedian with a quick-witted sense of humor that was able to make off-color jokes since everyone was adults. Virgin also had a resident drag queen with several performances during the cruise.

Are Drinks Included? How Much Do They Cost?

So much is included on your cruise, but one area that isn’t — alcoholic beverages. Virgin Voyages does charge for these, but there are a couple of things to know.

First, when it comes to cost the menu prices range from about $10-14 depending on the drink. We ordered some simple drinks (Moscow mule and a mojito) that were only $9. One nice thing is that because gratuity is included, the menu price is what you pay. There is no additional tip tacked on.

As well, Virgin doesn’t have drink packages. Instead they have a “Bar Tab” that’s credit toward drinks. Depending on your booking, you can get this included in your trip. During our cruise we booked and had $300 already included, so drinks were on the house.

How Does Food Work on the Cruise? Is it Good?

virgin voyages kosher

One thing you’ll like about Virgin Voyages is that all food on the ship is included. There are no extra charges for some restaurants.

The dining onboard can be thought of in two groups. First, there is The Galley. While the ships don’t have buffets, The Galley is a large dining hall with a number of different stalls serving different foods. There’s a burger spot, a taco spot, ramen/noodle bar, a sushi area, salad area, dessert spot and more. All of these spots are either grab and go or you simply wait a few minutes while they prepare your meal.

Then there are a number of sit-down restaurants serving anything from upscale Mexican to Italian, steak, and more. These spots typically require reservations (though walk-ins are welcome) and fill up quickly. It’s your choice where to eat, and you can dine at whatever time you are able. There is no assigned seating or dining rooms like on many other cruise lines.

To us, the food was solid to very good. The Galley offers a lot of options, whether you want simple (burger and fries) to more adventurous (sushi, ramen). However, the sit-down restaurants are a step above. We especially enjoyed Pink Agave, the upscale Mexican restaurant where everything was phenomenal.

What’s Good About Cruising Virgin Voyages?

virgin voyages kosher

There’s a lot that’s different about Virgin Voyages, and we think that’s what makes it a great cruise line to sail if you’re an adult looking for a getaway.

For one, we think the cruise line earns high marks in reinventing what a cruise can be. If you’re someone that’s been turned off by some of the “kitsch” in cruising, then cruising Virgin will be refreshing. There’s no line dancing on the pool deck or roving photographers or overly-excited cruise director.

As well, by including many things with the cruise, the headache of being nickeled and dimed around the ship is gone. Essentially the only things you’ll pay for onboard are alcohol, spa treatments, and gambling.

Finally, by catering to adults Virgin has shifted the design of everything from the ship to food to entertainment to more mature tastes that are more appealing to many.

What Are the Downsides of Cruising Virgin Voyages?

A crowded pool on a Virgin Voyages cruise ship

There’s a lot to like about Virgin, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. So what should you know that’s not so good?

Our biggest complaint is that the pool area seems small given the size of the ship. There are two pools, but the main pool only had seating for a couple of hundred people around it that seemed to fill up quickly when at sea.

As well, the reservation system for restaurants needs work. During our cruise we found that reservations were completely booked days in advance, yet when we went down to see if there was any space for walk-in, the restaurants had plenty of open tables. (We were seated immediately.)

We will also say that compared to other mass market lines with mega ships, there aren’t near as many things to do as you see elsewhere. For instance, there’s no roller coaster, go-kart track, zipline, rock-climbing wall or the like. That’s by design as these are largely included to appeal to kids and teens on the ship. However, if you’re someone that likes to be more active, you might be wanting more things to do.

Is Virgin Voyages Right for Me?

The Beach Club at Bimini

Having sailed the line recently, we think there is a lot for passengers to like about the cruise line no matter who you are. As mentioned, we saw all types on the ship from older couples to bachelorette parties. And the appeal is broad.

Overall, the crowd seems to skew younger — and more upscale — than most cruises. The atmosphere — ranging from the vibe on the ship to food to entertainment — definitely caters more to adult tastes. We think who would love the cruise line the most would be a couple from 30-60 years old celebrating an anniversary, special occasion, or simply wanting a romantic trip away. That, however, also casts too narrow a net as we saw all sorts having a great time.

In fact, outside of families, we have a hard time pinpointing who the cruise line wouldn’t appeal to. Personally we were worried that the cruise would be too trendy and cool for us to feel comfortable (there is a tattoo parlor onboard, after all), but that wasn’t the case at all. Instead, it was a great time with a lot of changes made to the traditional cruise to make it more appealing.

Do you or your Sailors have any questions that need answering before the voyage?

If you require accommodation or other special assistance during your voyage (such as an interpreter, alternative format materials, embarkation/disembarkation assistance, dietary restrictions) and/or have any questions regarding accessibility (such as bringing a service dog or oxygen), please fill out this  Request Form or contact us at your earliest convenience.  Our Crew will be able to assist you best with as much information and advanced notice as possible. Please contact our Sailor Services Crew at 954-488-2955 (US), +44 (20) 30034919 (UK) or +61 (1800) 491708 (AUS).  Of course, if you do not require any special assistance or accommodation, you’re all set, and we’ll see you on board. To get more information or request accessibility assistance on your upcoming voyage visit our Accessibility Website .

You can give us a ring using your TTY device through the Telecommunications Relay Service. Just dial 711, and ask the Relay Operator to connect you to our Sailor Services Shore Crew at 954-488-2955.

Yes, we have cabins that can accommodate wheelchairs. Please bring your own preferred wheelchair, if needed, and be sure to book early to guarantee the cabin of your choice. Sailors who are bringing a wheelchair or scooter should book a Fully Accessible Cabin.  To get more information or request accessibility assistance on your upcoming voyage visit our Accessibility Website .

Yes, your service dog is permitted on board. Service dogs are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, such as guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling wheelchairs, etc. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals and will not be welcomed onboard. While in public areas, service dogs must be on a leash, harness, or other restraining device. Due to health regulations, service dogs are not permitted in pools, whirlpools, or spas. Care and supervision of the service dog is the sole responsibility of the owner. Our ships will not provide food or care for the dog but will provide designated service animal relief stations onboard that can be set up on Deck 7. Service dogs may not be left unattended in the cabin.  Virgin Voyages reserves the right to remove or exclude a service animal if it is out of control and its handler does not take effective action to control it, it is not housebroken, it poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others, or it is disruptive while on board.  Damage to cabins or our ship caused by a service dog will be charged to the handler/occupant's account.   For more information on service dogs in the United States, we invite you to visit the U.S. Department of Justice Service Animal FAQs .

Yes, please contact our Sailor Services Crew to request any specific medical services or needed accommodations. To get more information or request accessibility assistance on your upcoming voyage visit our Accessibility Website .

Because the ships are supplied all over the world, it may be easier to meet your specific food allergy requirements in some countries, but very difficult in others. Special dietary requests should be submitted at least 45 days prior to sailing. For requests made with less notice, we will make our best efforts to provide your requested accommodation but cannot guarantee our ability to do so.  We can arrange to have no sugar and low sodium meals for Sailors with those specific medical dietary restrictions upon request.  Please note, Virgin Voyages does not have allergen-free kitchens. We do not offer Halal or Kosher Dining options.

Yes, our ships have specially designed cabins for Sailors using wheelchairs, or those who have mobility limitations and could benefit from the features of an accessible cabin. We request our Sailors acknowledge the need for the accessible cabin by completing the Special Services Request Form or by specifying all of your required accommodations to our Sailor Services Crew or your First Mate (travel professional). Please make every effort to contact us at least 45 days in advance of your voyage date.  To get more information or request accessibility assistance on your upcoming voyage visit our Accessibility Website .

Sailors are permitted to bring oxygen cylinders and equipment on board within the following guidelines: Sailors must make independent arrangements for the rental, delivery, and return of any oxygen cylinders and related medical equipment. Only 2 cylinders per cabin may be personally hand carried aboard by Sailors. All other quantities must be delivered. Stevedores at the port terminal are unable to coordinate the transfer of oxygen cylinders. Due to safety concerns and storage limitations, liquid oxygen or large cylinder systems (greater than 680 liters or E / M-24 size) are not permitted, and the types and quantities of oxygen cylinders allowed on board may be limited. Sailors bringing more than one cylinder must make their own arrangements for transportation to the cruise terminal. To coordinate an oxygen rental, you can reach out to Scootaround at (toll-free) 1-888-441-7575 or 204-982-0657

Sailors may bring their mobility scooter on board, as long as it is not powered by lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are not permitted on board. Sailors will need to notify our Sailor Services crew at the time of the booking that they'll be bringing their mobility scooters onboard and will need to book an accessible cabin. Please note that scooters must be stored in the cabin when not in use, so sailors wishing to travel with their scooter should book fully Accessible Cabins.

Yes, we have TDD kits available to accommodate those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Sailors may also message Crew via their smartphone through the Virgin Voyages App or by using their in-cabin tablet. Please contact our Sailor Services Crew for specific requests and accommodations.

If accepted, your offer is automatically processed and charged to your form of payment on file.

Yes, American Sign Language interpreters for those who are deaf or hard of hearing are available upon request. Please contact Sailor Services with at least 60 days' notice to make this request. If we are notified less than 45 days prior and an interpreter cannot be arranged, assistance will be provided with booking at a later date.

The terminal will close at 7:30 PM.

The ship will depart at 8:30 PM.

Sailors can drop off their luggage as early as 10:00 AM.

More than 120 days prior to your departure date, you'll need to pay a 20% deposit to secure your booking (but don't forget, you can also hold a booking for 24 hours without any money down up until 45 days). Once you're within 120 days of sailing, the full voyage fare is due at the time of booking. If you need to change your travel plans after this, you still have plenty of options. Just take a look at our cancellation policy or give our Sailor Services Crew or your travel agent a shout for more details.

Our Terminal Angels will tag all Sailor's luggage in the lot adjacent to Pier 4 (if facing the pier, it will be to your right). Once tagged, Sailors can then take their luggage to the front of the pier entrance to drop it off with the Porters to be transported to the Ship.

Of course, we'd be happy to save your spot! If you're booking more than 45 days before the voyage begins, we can hold your cabin for 24 hours - no $trings attached.

Yes, Sailors can upgrade their cabin by re-applying for a new Uplift loan.

Your Level Upgrade does not include any additional promotions but you can keep the promotions you already have.

Sailors have the option to drop off their luggage at the Terminal as early as 9:00 AM and can then explore the charm of Old San Juan.  Pier 4 is located in the heart of Old San Juan and will allow you to immerse yourself in the city's rich history, colorful architecture, and vibrant culture. Discover historic forts, stroll along cobblestone streets, and savor the flavors of Puerto Rican cuisine before embarking on your voyage.

While we have not placed restrictions on Sailor luggage, we recommend limiting the number of bags you bring on board so that we can accommodate all Sailors and ensure a smooth embarkation. We also recommend checking airline restrictions if you're flying.

What's a holiday without a few choice cocktails? Your sailing includes our essential drinks and, while we don't have traditional packages, our drink offerings are very reasonably priced. If you're looking to set aside some loot for premium beverages, Sailors can also purchase our Bar Tab before setting sail.

Sailors should arrive at the terminal at the Arrival Time that they selected when they completed their online check-in (Ready-to-Sail). This terminal does not have any waiting area for Sailors. Sailors who did not complete Ready-to-Sail in the Virgin Voyages App should plan to arrive after 3:00 PM.

At this time, you will pick up your welcome kit at the port, complete with luggage tags and The Band - your sleek wearable technology made from recycled ocean plastic that will unlock voyage adventures around the ship.

According to PortMiami, long-term cruise parking is $22 per night, while the daily rate is $8 for short-term parking. There is no reserved parking. PortMiami parking accepts cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or any major U.S. Traveler’s Check. No debit card transactions are accepted. Garage J is pre-paid only, so you have to pay when you get to Garage J and are given a decal to post inside your vehicle for the duration of the cruise. For all other parking, you pay as you leave. On cruise days, all garages and lots have a parking attendant from 6 AM to 5 PM. To access parking garages and Lot #2 on non-cruise days, please contact PortMiami Cruise Operations or Port Security at 305-347-4800. Security patrols all facilities. The closest garage to Terminal V is Garage G.

In the Virgin Voyages app, Sailors can check in prior to their voyage and select a Terminal Arrival Time. Our vessel will set sail at the time listed and will depart in a timely manner. That means on the dot.

We recommend booking a flight into the local airport (i.e. MIA or BCN) with an arrival time no later than 10am.

At Virgin Voyages, we completely support our Sailors' desire for a late checkout. With that, boarding generally begins at 2pm, but Sailors must follow their selected Terminal Arrival Time to complete terminal check-in.

If you have any special requests or need personal accommodations, please contact our Sailor Services Crew or your travel agent, and they'll be able to let the ship know precisely what you need!

The number of Sailors per cabin depends on the selected cabin. Overall, occupancy of cabins ranges from 1 to 4 Sailors.

Yes, we have a limited number of adjoining cabins so be sure to book early.

It wouldn't be a Virgin Voyages experience unless you're traveling in style. That's why we're pulling out all the stops to make sure our RockStar Sailors have everything they'll need (and a few extra things, on us). You get unlimited WiFi, complimentary dining, free group workouts and entertainment, plus all the essential drinks are included. Our RockStar Quarters Sailors get a little something extra, including:  - Suites by world-renowned designer Tom Dixon of the Design Research Studio. - RockStar Services Crew support to accommodate any special requests before and during your voyage - Early access to bookable experiences on shore and at sea  - Select beverages on us - Membership to Richard's Rooftop, an exclusive sun deck for RockStar Quarters Sailors

In an effort to make your booking experience as seamless as possible, our web-based booking allows Sailors to choose a specific cabin category. We will then assign the best cabin available based on the selected criteria. If you wish to change your ship location, you can select a new zone on the Web based on availability. If you wish to choose a more specific cabin or suite, you can reach out to our Sailor Services Crew or your travel agent for help.

Small quantities of water, protein based drinks, non-alcoholic beer, or soft drinks in boxes and cans are permitted in hand luggage only. Drinks in bottles (glass or plastic) are not permitted. A small quantity is considered a maximum of twelve (12) sealed, unopened cans/cartons of twelve 12 ounces each or less per person. - If there is a special need for having a specific drink, please contact Sailor Services.

Our cancellation policy was created to provide a better experience for our Sailors. Here's everything you need to know: If you’re booking more than 120 days prior to the start of the voyage, you have a 7-day grace period to request a full refund on your deposit and any other payments made. Refunds will be issued to your original form of payment. After the 7-day grace period (but still before the 120-day window), you can receive a full refund on any payments, excluding your deposit. For your deposit, you will receive Future Voyage Credit at this time. Between 119 and 45 days, any funds paid will be converted to Future Voyage Credit (FVC), good to use on any voyage 1 year from the original voyage start date. Sweet deal, huh? Once you’re within 44 days of your voyage, all funds paid are final. But you do have the option to send someone else in your place up to 48 hours before your voyage if you really can't sail. Please note that taxes and fees will be refunded regardless of when the booking is canceled. Have more questions? No worries. Our Sailor Services Crew or your travel agent can help walk you through the process. As always, we recommend you purchase our Voyage Protection.

We’ll be honoring all promotional offers and Sailor Loot that were applied to your impacted voyage.

We understand the importance of receiving your voyage fare refund, and our goal is to process these requests as quickly as possible. We expect to process refunds within 7 days from receiving your request. Please note that refunds may take up to 14 days to reflect in your account based on your banking institution.

Due to these itineraries having ports of call in the French Caribbean Island of Martinique and Guadeloupe, all Sailors must have a Passport Book to Sail from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Passport cards will not be accepted at these ports.

Please visit this link for more information regarding Shore Things terms & conditions.

All payments for Voyage Protection are final (non-refundable) after the 10-day grace period if the booking was made more than 120 days before the voyage.

Our exclusive offer provides Florida residents with a 5% discount on voyages booked within 45 days of sailing and must depart from Port Miami. Sailors can use the Access Key FLRate at checkout and will need to bring proof of residency (driver’s license or utility bill) on the day of the voyage. More details can be found on our Florida Resident Rate page .

Our cabins serve as the perfect retreat for sailors offering epic comfort and style. They include: - Roomy Rainshowers  - Mood lighting - Clever cabin control - 43"+ 4K flat-screen HDTV with Bluetooth connectivity for mobile phones - In-room mini bar with ice bucket, bottle opener and glassware - Bathroom necessities such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash - Hairdryer - In-room safe (fits 17" laptop) - At least 4 North American (110v) and 1 European (220v) power outlets, plus 6 USB ports - Open wardrobe space

Yes, what would a Virgin Voyages experience be without a few guitars? Just be sure all instruments fit through terminal screening equipment. Also, if the music is disturbing other Sailors, which we don't think it will (we know how good you are), we might have to ask you to lower the volume a bit to respect everyone's needs.

Voyage Protection can be purchased at any time before the final payment is made on a booking.

Voyage Protection covers all travel components booked through Virgin Voyages including voyage fare, air, and hotel. Visit the Aon plan page for more information about  Voyage Protection benefits.

At this time, Virgin Voyages accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Currencies accepted are USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD, and NZD so some Sailors may incur foreign transaction fees by their credit card company.

Deposits are 20% of your voyage fare (ticket price only, not taxes and fees), and they are due at the time of booking. However, if you're booking less than 120 days prior to your voyage start date, full voyage fare would be required.

That would be a strong no. There are no weapons or ammunition of any kind allowed on board.

Our main goal is to provide the appropriate, effective, and efficient response to any communicable disease, all while ensuring the health and safety of our Crew and Sailors as well as the communities we visit. In order to achieve this, we are implementing the most up-to-date hygiene initiatives and utilizing the best practices available to sanitize and disinfect our shipboard environment. This includes the installation of sanitizing dispensers throughout the ship, the implementation of touchless faucets, the placement of increased hygiene signage, and the utilization of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-registered disinfectants. Additionally, we have also adopted the use of advanced cleaning tools such as fogging to further enhance our cleaning efforts. Furthermore, it is important to note that our ratio of terrace cabins is one of the highest in the industry — allowing plenty of access to (salt-infused) fresh air. Thus, we are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all onboard.

In keeping in line with the rest of the travel industry, we have removed all vaccine and testing requirements.

While we encourage Sailors to book alternative transportation in advance to ensure a smooth trip, Virgin Voyages is not currently providing these accommodations.

Our Sailors tend to be world travelers, whether it's on land or at sea. That's why we are making it easier for those who wish to book their entire trip in one step. To make hotel and air reservations please contact Sailor Services via phone, email, or chat.

Virgin Voyages plans to release sailing dates about twice a year, likely in the Spring and Fall. Please check back for future dates.

Staying hydrated is a must for well-being at sea (and we prefer our Sailors feel their best), so enjoy any essential drinks on us including water (still and sparkling, of course), non-pressed juice, soda, sachet tea and drip coffee if you need a boost. Since WiFi is as essential as water to us, count that in, too. Entertainment experiences, also included. Plus, we'll cover restaurant dining, tips and group fitness classes, too!

Our goal is to process travel reimbursements within 30 days from the time a request is submitted. Reimbursements will be sent to Sailors via a check in the mail (for US residents) or Western Union Cash Pickup (10-digit MTCN tracking number).

Though unlikely, Virgin Voyages reserves the right to refuse booking or deny boarding to anyone that does not comply with the rules and regulations stated in the ticket contract.

Sailors will have the ability to book dining experiences directly from our Virgin Voyages app or with Sailor Services starting 45 days before departure, and our Sailors booked in RockStar and Mega RockStar Quarters will have the ability to book starting 60 days before. Our other onboard experiences such as spa, entertainment, and tattoos will be available to book once you’re on board. In the meantime, you can start planning your voyage by checking out our entertainment lineup in our Virgin Voyages app , and we will let booked Sailors know when pre-voyage bookings open up.

Future Voyage Credits (FVC) are only applicable for future voyages booked and sailed within one (1) year of the original voyage date and are issued on a per Sailor basis. They cannot be transferred to other Sailors, used as onboard credit, or used to purchase Voyage Protection or Bar Tab.

We recognize and appreciate that you’re spending some additional time with us, and we are going to make every effort to accommodate your cabin assignments on new bookings.

Yes, every Sailor has the opportunity to choose Voyage Protection when booking. If you decide you want to add Voyage Protection after booking, please contact Sailor Services or your travel agent to arrange it prior to making the final payment. Please visit the Aon plan page for more information about Voyage Protection benefits .

Sailors may change their voyage date up until 45 days prior to the sailing, and the new voyage date can be up to 1 year from the original sailing start date. Please keep in mind that if changing a voyage date, any bookable experiences, such as dining, Shore Things, and arrival time slots, will need to be rebooked on the new voyage date.

On Virgin Voyages creating a safe and secure environment for our Sailors is our top priority. This is a super-long-but-super-important list of items that are a no-go on every Virgin Voyages vessel.  If a sailor is found in possession of such items onboard or during embarkation, The vessel may deny these items from coming onboard, dispose of items or confiscate items until the end of the voyage. Thank you for helping to ensure the safety of everyone on board. See the list of all prohibited items.

Virgin Voyages is committed to providing a safe environment for our Sailors and Crew and reserves the right to deny boarding to any persons convicted of certain felonies, including but not limited to: aggravated physical and/or sexual assault, armed robbery and related offenses, and any other violent crimes.  Virgin Voyages also reserves the right to access public records containing information about any felonious convictions as part of its Sailor screening process, and to cancel a booking and/or deny embarkation at any time to any individual who has been convicted of these crimes. In the event of such cancellation or denial, the affected individual’s sole recourse shall be a refund of the amount paid to Virgin Voyages for that individual’s own booking, without entitlement to any further damages, loss, expenses, credit, or compensation whatsoever.

We've taken great care to design an experience where our Sailors can enjoy an 18+ environment for reflection, transformation and exploration without life’s everyday stressors.

Sorry, laws are laws. While 18+ Sailors can enjoy alcoholic beverages at sea, it's illegal for 18- to 20-year-olds to possess alcohol in Florida. Sorry, Sailors!

With more than 20+ delicious options available, there's no need to bring food on board. However, if you have a necessary item or dietary supplement you must bring on board, feel free to contact out Sailor Services Crew for special clearance.

For our full Sailor Conduct Policy please see  here .

Smoking will only be permitted in a designated smoking room and on the top deck outdoor area. Smoking is not allowed on any cabin terraces. Smoking of any kind outside of designated areas (even with a "vape" device) will result in a $500 fee, is a material breach of your ticket contract, and may result in you being disembarked at the next port with no refund. Any repatriating fees will be charged to your onboard account.

Clothing irons are a no go on board, but if you need to bring flat iron for your hair, that's ok. There is a hair dryer already in your cabin.

Every Virgin Voyages sailing is an experience created exclusively for adults, and the minimum age to book and sail is 18 years old.

Congratulations on your new mini-Sailor! In order to set sail, you must be no more than 23 weeks pregnant by the end of the voyage. Upon embarkation at the port, you will need to provide medical documentation confirming your good health, your baby's health, your pregnancy is not considered high-risk, and that you will be no more than 23 weeks pregnant by the end of your sailing. Failure to bring this documentation will result in denial of boarding at your cost.

As an Adult-by-Design experience, we have an array of carefully selected beer, wine and expert cocktail options shipwide. If you must bring that rare bottle of red you got in the south of France, we get it. Sailors are also welcome to bring two (2) 750mL bottles of wine per cabin in carry-on bags (sorry, no liquor or beer please). Please note, any alcohol in your checked luggage will be confiscated. You are also welcome to bring specialty liquors from a port of call on board. Simply hand them to our security team as you board, and we will hold them until your final night.

Because you booked with one of our fabulous Tour Operator partners, they will need to make any changes or adjustments to your booking directly. Please reach out to your travel partner for details.

Sailors booked in a Circle will receive the same flexible offers and are not required to choose the same option as others in the group. Our team will be contacting Circle Leaders, but Sailors may also reach out to our Crew to manage each individual booking.

  • Any Sailor who has signs of COVID will receive complimentary medical care on board via our onboard Medical Team — our medical center is equipped with the latest PCR testing capabilities to test for COVID-19 and other viral diseases.
  • In case of a positive PCR test, those Sailors will be isolated under Virgin Voyages Infection Prevention & Control protocols.
  • The medical team will follow up with any close contact.
  • Our highly trained medical team will treat impacted Sailors with the best care until we arrive back and are in port, and the impacted Sailors can be transferred to local medical facility or has indicated by Port Regulations
  • If negative, we will test for other viral infections as well, for example, influenza A & B, etc., and if any of those tests are confirmed, treatment is administered accordingly.
  • Isolation may not be required for the above cases, but our medical doctors on board will determine on a case by case basis.

Our Crew’s safety and health is important, crew are fully vaccinated. Crew members are isolated when possible communicable disease might be identified.

Not your average “stock tour” experiences, our Shore Things aim to connect Sailors to paths less traveled within each destination, providing access to local culture and discovery. While you can start exploring our Shore Things online now, Sailors can book by visiting the Discover tab on the Sailor App, chatting with our Crew or through their travel partner. All Sailors will be able to book within 120 days prior to their voyage start, and those booked in RockStar Quarters will get early access within 135 days.

Voyages traveling to the French Caribbean Islands of Martinique & Guadeloupe will be strictly passport book only, and passport cards will not be accepted at these ports.

“With our mission to provide a more sustainable alternative to cow’s milk during more occasions, expanding Oatly’s presence to now reach people as they experience the world’s oceans is incredibly exciting for us,” said Helge Weitz, President, North America at Oatly. “It’s important to us that we keep showing up in places where people are experiencing everyday life, and vacation is no exception. We’re happy that travelers onboard Virgin Voyages ships now have a delicious oatmilk option at their fingertips, making the switch from cow’s milk that much easier.”

Oatly Sets Sail with Virgin Voyages, Marking Its First Cruise Line Distribution Deal

MALMÖ, Sweden, March 25, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Oatly Group AB (Nasdaq: OTLY)(“Oatly” or the “Company”), the world’s original and largest oatmilk company, today announced a new distribution arrangement with Virgin Voyages, the travel brand known for delivering epic vacations and a boutique hotel-like experience at sea.

Work from sea: Virgin Voyages brings remote friendly summer season pass to second ship

virgin voyages kosher

Virgin Voyages is doubling down on its remote work-friendly season pass.

The adults-only cruise line is offering the Summer Season Pass on its Resilient Lady ship, which sails from Athens, Greece. This follows high demand after revealing the offer for Scarlet Lady earlier this month.

Passholders can take back-to-back cruises at a cheaper cost.

“No longer does working from home mean being tied to a desk or home office and eating leftovers for lunch,” Virgin Voyages CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu previously said in a news release when the first pass was launched. “With our latest WiFi upgrades, Virgin Voyages can now offer our Sailors the chance to see the world while working from a daybed at The Dock (outdoor lounge) and sampling Mediterranean mezzes, then hopping off the ship in between calls to make the most of our incredible ports of call.”

What are the terms of Virgin’s Summer Season Pass?

The passes for Resilient Lady are available in three stints of four cruises each:

  • June 30-July 28
  • July 7-Aug. 4

Destinations include the islands of Santorini and Mykonos, Dubrovnik, Croatia, Bodrum in Turkey, and Kotor, Montenegro, though exact itineraries vary by sailing.

How much does Virgin’s Summer Season Pass cost?

The pass starts at $9,990 for up to two guests, a savings of roughly 30% compared to booking four sailings separately. Passholders will stay in a Central Sea Terrace cabin with a private balcony.

They will also get complimentary wash and fold laundry service, access to Richard’s Rooftop – usually reserved for suite guests – a $10 daily coffee credit per cabin and more.

Can I work from a cruise ship?: We gave it a try

Premium Wi-Fi will be provided at no extra cost, handy for those who need to get work done on board. If you do, Virgin recommends posting up at the “in-cabin desk, your hammock, or in the Grounds Club” coffee bar, according to an FAQ section on its website.

Travelers can fill out an online form to book.

  • I sailed on a luxury, adults-only Virgin Voyages cruise ship called the Valiant Lady.
  • It can hold more than 2,700 guests with unique amenities like a tattoo shop and an adult playground.
  • Here's a tour of the ship's 17 decks full of cabins, restaurants, and communal spaces.

In August 2023, I took my first cruise with Virgin Voyages , a relatively new luxury cruise line I've heard about from friends and other travelers for the last couple of years.

Virgin Voyages launched in 2021 as an adults-only cruise line , according to its website . Since then, it's won several awards, including five from Cruise Critic for its cabins, dining, service, and ships in 2023.

Virgin Voyages has four "lady" ships: Scarlet Lady , Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, and Brilliant Lady. A representative from Virgin Voyages told Business Insider that the ships are pretty much identical, aside from some differences in artwork and entertainment.

I cruised on Valiant Lady, which began sailing in March 2022. Like the other ships, it can hold more than 2,700 guests.

Virgin Voyages ships sail in Europe and the Caribbean. I took a seven-day Mediterranean cruise that left out of Barcelona.

My ship sailed round-trip from Barcelona, Spain, to ports in Italy and France, including Toulon, Ajaccio, and Marina di Carrara . The cruise ended with an overnight stop in Ibiza .

In my opinion, deck 16 is home to the most relaxing spot — Richard's Rooftop.

Virgin Voyages gave BI access to Richard's Rooftop , and I thought it was the most relaxing place on the ship.

It's packed with cabanas, loungers, and whirlpools. It also has a bar and lounge-side service.

Lastly, the top deck, 17, holds the runway, a bright-red track that circles the ship.

The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Virgin Voyages ship

Gene Sloan

Anyone looking for the best Virgin Voyages cruise itinerary will want to start with its sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean.

The three-ship line has focused most of its energy since its debut in 2021 on creating relatively short, fun, adult-focused voyages out of Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, to the two regions, with two of its vessels spending a significant amount of their time on such itineraries.

For a line with so few ships, that makes sense, as the Bahamas and Caribbean account for the biggest chunk of demand for cruises.

Still, as Virgin Voyages grows — it has a fourth ship on order — it is likely to greatly expand its offerings in other parts of the world.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Already, in addition to a year-round presence in the Bahamas and Caribbean, Virgin Voyages has been offering regular sailings in the Mediterranean on a seasonal basis, from spring to fall, with at least one and sometimes two ships. With the arrival of its third ship recently, it also was able to expand its offerings with its first voyages to Australia and New Zealand.

While the latter voyages aren't starting up until the end of 2023, they're already open for bookings.

What are the best Virgin Voyages destinations you can visit and itineraries you can choose? Here are TPG's top five picks.

Short sailings to The Bahamas and Caribbean

virgin voyages kosher

Virgin Voyages got its start offering short sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Miami, and that's still the line's biggest cruise destination focus. In fact, one of Virgin Voyages' two vessels currently in operation, the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady , does nothing but short sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Miami.

In all cases, these sailings include a stop in the Bahamas. Some then add a Caribbean stop, while others add a stop in Florida.

Related: I've been on more than 150 cruise ships; here's why Scarlet Lady surprised me

Specifically, Scarlet Lady offers four different four- and five-night Bahamas itineraries out of Miami year-round. All include a stop at Bimini in the Bahamas, where the line has a private beach club , as well as a single call in either Mexico, the Dominican Republic or Key West, Florida. The four itineraries are:

  • Fire and Sunset Soirees itinerary: a four-night cruise to Bimini and Key West, plus one sea day
  • Riviera Maya itinerary: a five-night cruise to Bimini and Cozumel, Mexico, plus two sea days
  • Dominican Haze itinerary: a five-night cruise to Bimini and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, plus two sea days
  • Mayan Sol itinerary: a five-night cruise to Bimini and Costa Maya, Mexico, plus two sea days

In keeping with its "time to let loose" adults-only vibe, Virgin Voyages has built relatively late stays into several of the port calls on these itineraries, allowing passengers to maximize their fun time ashore. The typical stay at Bimini — where the line holds DJ-led pool parties at its private beach club late into the day — extends until 8 p.m., which is later than most ships stay at Bahamian ports. Visits to Cozumel, Mexico, also extend to 8 p.m.

Scarlet Lady has operated these sailings since it debuted as Virgin's first vessel in 2021, and it'll continue rotating through the itineraries until May 2024. At that point, Scarlet Lady's nearly identical sister vessel, the 2,770-passenger Valiant Lady, will take over these Bahamas and Caribbean routes.

Longer sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean

virgin voyages kosher

Initially, Virgin Voyages only offered shorter sailings of five or fewer nights to the Bahamas and Caribbean. But its list of itineraries in the regions is now peppered with longer voyages of six to eight nights.

These are sailings that stop in more distant Caribbean destinations such as St. Croix and Roatan, Honduras, and will appeal to cruisers who find trips of just four or five days too short.

For 2024, Virgin is offering four such longer itineraries, two of which are out of Miami and operated by the line's second ship, Valiant Lady , as well as its original vessel, Scarlet Lady:

  • Eastern Caribbean Antilles itinerary: an eight-night cruise to San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Croix; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and Bimini, plus two sea days
  • Western Caribbean Charm itinerary: a six-night cruise to Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and Bimini, plus two sea days

The other two longer Caribbean itineraries that Virgin is offering in 2024 are both out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and operated only by Valiant Lady.

  • Sunsets in the Lesser Antilles itinerary: a seven-night cruise to Aruba, Curacao, Martinique and St. Kitts, plus two sea days
  • Southeastern Caribbean Isles itinerary: a seven-night cruise to Tortola, Antigua, Guadeloupe, St. Lucia and Barbados, plus one sea day

Virgin also operates one-off sailings out of Miami around the winter holidays. Typical is a six-night "Valiant Caribbean Holidays" sailing out of Miami on Dec. 20, 2024, visiting Puerto Plata, Nassau and Bimini.

The Mediterranean

virgin voyages kosher

Another top destination for Virgin Voyages is the Mediterranean , where the line has been expanding quickly as it adds new ships.

In 2023, Virgin sent its new ship, Resilient Lady, to the Mediterranean through October to join Valiant Lady in the region, doubling up on its Mediterranean departures as compared to 2022. And the line plans a similar two-ship lineup for the Mediterranean again in 2024, when it'll be Scarlet Lady joining Resilient Lady in the region from spring to fall.

The addition of a second ship in the Mediterranean for the summer season has allowed Virgin Voyages to offer seven-night voyages every week during the season out of both Barcelona and Piraeus, Greece (the port for Athens) — a first for the line.

For 2024, Scarlet Lady will be based in Barcelona (taking the place of Valiant Lady), offering two western Mediterranean itineraries that mostly focus on stops in Spain and France. Specifically, one will spend most of its time at the Spanish islands of Mallorca and Ibiza along with stops in Marseille and Cannes in France, while the other features stops in Ibiza; the French island of Corsica; Toulon, France; and the port for Carrara, Italy.

Resilient Lady will continue to be based in Piraeus, alternating between eastern Mediterranean itineraries that focus on the Greek islands and the Croatian coast, respectively.

The Greek Islands itinerary, called Greek Island Glow, includes stops at Santorini, Rhodes and Mykonos, as well as a visit to Bodrum, Turkey.

As with Virgin's Bahamas and Caribbean itineraries, its Mediterranean itineraries are specifically designed for fun-seeking travelers looking for a late-night experience.

In the case of the Greek Islands sailings, Resilient Lady's Santorini visit is a day call that continues until 10 p.m. The Mykonos stop on the same sailing is an overnight call, with the ship remaining in port until 2 p.m. on the day after it arrives.

The Croatian coast-focused itinerary, called Adriatic Sea and Greek Gems, also includes several late-night stops. The ship stays in Split and Dubrovnik in Croatia until 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., respectively. A call at Corfu, Greece, lasts until 9 p.m.

Australia and New Zealand

virgin voyages kosher

The first Virgin Voyages sailings to Australia and New Zealand on the line's new Resilient Lady will begin this winter. After its initial summer cruising in the Mediterranean, the vessel will reposition to Australia in December for a series of 11 sailings ranging from five to 14 nights.

Among them will be round-trip sailings out of Melbourne, Australia, as well as one-way trips between Melbourne and Auckland, New Zealand. Itineraries include:

  • Aussie MerMaiden: a five-night cruise out of Melbourne with stops at Hobart and Burnie in Tasmania, plus one sea day
  • Resilient New Year's Pacific Ahoy: a 14-night cruise from Melbourne to Auckland with stops at Hobart and Burnie in Tasmania; Sydney; and Tauranga, Napier and Picton in New Zealand, as well as five sea days
  • Tasman Sea, Fjords and Maori Shores: an 11-night cruise from Auckland to Melbourne with stops at Tauranga, Dunedin and Christ Church in New Zealand, and Hobart and Burnie in Tasmania, plus four sea days

A pair of one-way, 15-night trips between Singapore and Australia will bookend the Australia and New Zealand sailings. Scheduled for November 2023 and March 2024, the two sailings offer overnight stays in Bali and calls at Airlie Beach, Cairns and Darwin in Australia.

Transatlantic

virgin voyages kosher

The expansion of Virgin Voyages sailings in the Bahamas and Caribbean this year meant the line could send more ships back and forth between Europe and North America than in the past. That's created an expanded lineup of so-called "repositioning" cruises across the Atlantic that feature many sea days.

Among the transatlantic sailings on the line's schedule for 2024 are:

  • A 14-night voyage from Miami to Barcelona departing April 21, 2024, that includes 10 sea days plus stops at Madeira, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca. The voyage will take place on Scarlet Lady.
  • A 16-night voyage from Civitavecchia (the port for Rome) to Miami departing Nov. 28, 2024, that includes 11 sea days plus stops at Barcelona, Malaga, Madeira and Santa Cruz in the Canary Islands. The voyage also will take place on Scarlet Lady.

Bottom line

Virgin Voyages is still a relatively small line with just three ships, and that means it can't offer too big a range of itineraries. But with at least one more vessel joining its fleet over the coming year, its destination offerings are growing.

The brand has the broadest array of options in the Bahamas and Caribbean, where it got its start, and is rapidly expanding in Europe. Sailings in Australia and New Zealand are just beginning this coming winter.

Virgin Voyages is pitching a monthlong cruise to remote workers starting at $10K for two people

  • Richard Branson's Virgin Voyages says it's launching a monthlong  summertime cruise pass .
  • Passholders would get to sail on four consecutive weeklong Mediterranean itineraries.
  • The program, aimed at remote workers, starts at $9,990 for two people in one balcony cabin.

Insider Today

Richard Brandon's Virgin Voyages wants you to "WFH" this summer.

No, not home — "Helm," it said.

The adult-only cruise line says it's launching monthlong summertime passes, aptly known as the "Scarlet Summer Season Pass," starting at $9,990 for two people in one cabin.

Say goodbye to your desk and hello to destinations like Ibiza, Spain; Cannes, France; and Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy. With this pass, travelers would sail on four consecutive weeklong Mediterranean cruises.

Guests must pick from four preset embarkation dates, which all fall on the first or second week of June, July, August, and September.

During the month at sea, the Scarlet Lady would sail twice to nine ports in Spain, France, and Italy.

No more dingy desks: These remote workers get balcony cabins instead.

virgin voyages kosher

Passholders would spend four weeks at sea in one of Scarlet Lady's mid-tier "Sea Terrace" cabins.

The Scarlet Lady is Virgin's first ship, joining the fleet in 2021.

But first doesn't mean the worst: The balcony stateroom has plush amenities like rainfall showerheads, electronic blinds, and bright red hammocks on the balcony.

Don't worry: WiFi and coffee are included.

virgin voyages kosher

Cruise ships aren't traditionally known for having fast or stable WiFi. But according to Virgin, there's no need to worry about laggy Zoom meetings: The ship's internet was recently upgraded, now serviced by SES and Starlink .

To fuel those days at work, travelers would also get daily credit for specialty coffee and tea, although the $10 would have to be split between the cabin's two occupants.

Virgin Voyages promises pass holders entry to the ship’s “members-only” sundeck.

virgin voyages kosher

And no need to pack heavy: The cost also includes laundry services.

No more overpriced lunch salads or hastily made sandwiches: The ship has over 20 restaurants.

virgin voyages kosher

The Scarlet Lady's dining venues are complimentary, save for some upcharged dishes and "dinner shows."

This includes a Korean barbecue venue and a trendy vegetable-forward restaurant.

Companies have increasingly been issuing return-to-office orders.

virgin voyages kosher

But a spokesperson for Virgin Voyages said this hasn't been waning cruisers' interest in the pass.

Quite the opposite: Virgin says it might have to expand the program.

virgin voyages kosher

The cruise line had initially planned 40 passes (10 a month).

But "after seeing incredible demand," Virgin Voyages is now "considering" making more passes available, the spokesperson told Business Insider.

Best Virgin Moscow Mule Recipe

Nov 30, 2019

Wherever there are great cocktail recipes, there are equally fabulous mocktail recipes for those of us who enjoy all the style and taste of cocktails without liquor. In this post, we reveal the best recipe for the Virgin Moscow Mule on the internet! Let's get started!

Introduction

A cocktail is essentially a blend of two or more ingredients of which at least one is alcoholic. As of late, cocktails are getting more inventive with upwards of four and five ingredients.

The Moscow Mule keeps it classically simple with only three ingredients that most of us already have at home. Vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice.

The intense burn of the ginger beer blended with the refreshing sourness of lime juice delights the palate and warms you right up from the first sip.

There are a multitude of practical reasons for choosing a mocktail over a cocktail.

This could include health concerns and diet practices. Or, maybe you're the designated driver and don't want to miss out on a fun night with your social group.

Whatever the reason, mocktails make sure no one is left out.

Most will say that a mocktail is simply a recipe for any cocktail sans the alcoholic ingredient(s), but we're going to show you fantastic ways to enjoy a Virgin Moscow Mule without sacrificing flavor or taste.

Ingredients:

  • Sparkling Water
  • Fresh limes
  • Ginger beer
  • Simple syrup

Instructions:

  • You can either muddle a couple of fresh limes or use freshly squeezed lime juice. We won't tell if you decide to do both ;)
  • Next, combine your favorite sparkling water and a splash of ginger beer
  • Add a serving of simple syrup (1 part water, 1 part sugar)
  • Stir. If you have a shaker on hand, you can also shake the combined ingredients together, but be cautious when pouring as the turbulence may have created a little extra fizz from the sparkling water.
  • Pour over ice

With this excellent non-alcoholic version of the Moscow Mule, you can have guilt-free seconds or even thirds!

Moscow Muled copper mugs filled with clear liquid ice cubs and lime slices

Health Benefits

Typically, in every 6 oz serving of the traditional Moscow Mule cocktail there are approximately 180 to 200 calories.

One fantastic upside of making a Moscow Mule mocktail is that with the extraction of vodka (say 1.5 oz) you can eliminate around 96 calories, meaning that a typical 6 oz serving is approximately 100 calories or less!

Layers of Flavors

one whole ginger beside four sliced ginger

Now that we've laid the foundations, it's time to explore the variations and wonderful layers we can add to perfect our Virgin Moscow Mule.  With these alterations, your mocktails are sure to be enjoyed by all!

In addition to following the preparation of the basic recipe noted above, we suggest adding a few slices of fresh ginger to the mix.

To fully extract the flavors of the ginger, consider muddling it with your limes. Be careful to strain afterward, unless you want to be sucking up bits of ginger through your straw and set your mouth ablaze!

Coupled with the ginger beer, this is sure to amplify the smoldering tones of the original cocktail's taste.

Be sure to use ginger beer and not ginger ale. Most commercially sold ginger beer, though fermented, is alcohol-free. It differs from ginger ale in the way it is manufactured. The intensity of ginger essence in ginger ale isn’t comparable to that of the essence in ginger beer.

So, if you decide to replace ginger beer with ginger ale, you’ll be disappointed at the silenced flavors of ginger in your drink. Essentially, what you’d be drinking wouldn’t be a Moscow Mule at all.

Take it from us, use ginger beer!

If you would rather direct your variations or additions towards the sweet and fruity citrus flavors of your Virgin Mule, you can switch out the simple syrup for a fruit-flavored syrup.

Use a lime-flavored syrup if you would like to stay true to the original characteristics of the classic Moscow Mule.

If you're looking to put a spin on your virgin mule, don't be afraid to try any berry-flavored syrup for an extra layer of fruity goodness.

Sugar-Free Options

Not everyone is a fan of sugar and all things sweet. With this modification, the recipe can accommodate those of us who are patrolling our sugar intake due to dieting and/or health concerns.

More specifically, if you're counting calories or looking to steer clear of sugar all together, you can modify the Virgin Mule recipe by using sugar-free syrup.

With 8 grams of sugar in one tablespoon of conventional syrup, the sugar-free option is a great way to go. A couple of dollops of the sugar-free syrup is a guilt-free way to enjoy the sweetness of this mocktail without the guilt.

Depending on your location and accessibility, you may or may not find brands of sugar-free syrup.  All the merrier if you can!

If you can’t find sugar-free syrup, another option is to use flavored sparkling water to add some additional flavour to your mocktail.  Some brands of flavored sparkling water are sold in tasty flavors with no sugar, no sweeteners, and no calories. Furthermore, the carbonation in sparkling water will augment the invigorating fizz of the ginger beer.  Win-win-win!

Serving Time

Just because we've decided to forego the alcohol component doesn't mean we're also forsaking presentation. We 're all about balance in life as well as in mocktails. So, if one component of the drink has been removed, another must be added!

And what better place to embellish then in the presentation?

It's no secret that the Moscow Mule is served in a copper mug . There are a variety of reasons why, and one of them is that copper is trusted to maintain a cooler temperature. In addition, the copper adds a "zing" to the flavor of the cocktail with each sip.

Whatever the reason, we can't deny that a Moscow Mule served in a copper mug just looks and feels right. The same is to be said for a Virgin Mule.

Besides, if we’re talking about looks, no one has to know you’re drinking a mocktail if you don’t want them to. The copper mug will keep your secret!

In lieu of serving your Virgin Mule in a copper mug, you can serve it in any bar glass. With so many types and shapes of cocktail glasses, there really is no reason why you couldn't enjoy your mocktail in a highball, an old fashion glass, or even a martini glass.

Whatever you have on hand should work just fine!

Garnish Like a Pro

Add a lime wedge to the rim and voila!

Want to take things up a notch? Drag the lime wedge along the rim of your glass, allowing the citrus to coat the edge. Turn your glass upside down into a plate of salt or sugar.

Extra points for presentation and added flavor with every sip!

For herb garnishes, clap your choice of herbs between your hands to bruise it lightly and release its essential oils and aroma.  Mint works great!

And here's an extra tip. If you have them, sprinkle a few pomegranate seeds on the surface of your drink! However, be careful if drinking with a straw as those little seeds will get sucked right up! It’s also a beautiful addition to your Virgin Mule, as you can see in the photo below.

Moscow Muled copper mug filled with liquid cranberries and sliced lime

We hope this article has been useful in helping to introduce you to the Virgin Moscow Mule! The Moscow Mule is an incredibly versatile drink, so don't hesitate to let your creativity push you to experiment with new variations. And, if you want to take your presentation and style up a notch, make sure to equip your kitchen bar with a few copper mugs !

This is our most incredible suite on board. Before the tour, you should start thinking about how to stock your bottomless bar for stargazing in the hot tub —because there's no dream that this suite, and your RockStar Agents, can't make a reality.

Sun-drenched terrace yoga with new friends or (extra) dirty martinis at the full bar inside? For those who love to host while never losing sight of the sea.

Gorgeous Suite

Whether you're in the Peek-a-Boo shower inside, or rinsing off on the Peek-a-View shower outside, the ecstasy-inducing sea views pulse through every part of the design of this suite.

From ceiling to floor marble bathrooms to the champagne table on the terrace overlooking the waves — it's chic enough for a superstar girlband to shack up here.

Cheeky Corner Suite

A lavish Suite cheekily located at the corner of the ship for wrapping panoramic views of the wake (you’re welcome).

Brilliant Suite

Cue the music video montage because your inner rocker will come alive dancing from the bar to the fully marbled bathroom. Or electric slide to the terrace champagne table. Or... well, we'll leave the choreography up to you.

Seriously Suite

From the massive European king bed overlooking the sea to the custom hand-made terrace hammock, luxury and self care here are a serious art.

Sweet Aft Suite

Kick back and enjoy the Suite life with uninterrupted sea views (really...even the bathroom has an ocean view).

  3. What it's really like to sail with Virgin Voyages

SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY. Last year, Tom McAlpin, the president and CEO of Virgin Voyages, told TPG's resident cruise expert Gene Sloan that on early sailings of Scarlet Lady, the average passenger age was in the 50s, with plenty on board in their 60s and 70s. Based on my trip, I'd say that is still a pretty accurate representation.

  8. Special meal request on Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady

196 reviews. 95 helpful votes. 5. Re: Special meal request on Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady. 1 year ago. Save. There are several cruise lines that cater to keeping kosher, but Virgin is not one of them. The only thing I can think of is to ask if you can arrange for pre-packaged kosher meals similar to those served on aeroplanes.

  9. 10+ Virgin Voyages Tips and Things to Know Before You Sail

First, instead of having odd numbered cabins on one side and even numbers on the other, the cruise line uses "A" for rooms on one side of the ship and "Z' for the other side. Ships in the middle use "M.". But if you are in room 5266A, there's another room on the other side of the ship that's 5266Z.
