Weather Policy:

Actual weather conditions vary greatly from weather forecasts and conditions change rapidly in Denali. Storms move in and out very quickly and the weather is likely to change several times over the duration of your tour. This can be really exciting and can provide some great opportunities for cloudscapes and dynamic lighting on the mountain range.

Denali phot excursions rarely need to be cancelled on account of weather, but in the case of a weather cancellation, participants who cannot reschedule will receive a full refund. Weather cancellations are at the discretion of Denali Photo Guides. We do not make decisions based on weather prior to the day of the tour, and we usually cannot make the call until right before the tour starts. Typically, your guide will meet you at the start of the tour to discuss the current conditions, your skill level & expectations, and determine the best option for each guest. Safety and quality of experience are our top priorities.

Restrictions:

There is no minimum to book, but we do have a two-person minimum for a tour to run. In the rare case the minimum is not met one day prior to the reservation, we will try to reschedule or issue a refund.

Maximum weight: 300 lbs.

Minimum age: 8 years old. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Alaska State Law requires use of a car seat or booster seat for children under 4’9″ or less than 65 pounds. Guests are responsible for providing their own safety seats if needed. Denali Photo Guides does not provide safety seats. Guests should refer to this website for more information: http://www.carseatsak.org/Links/index.cfm?fuseaction=AlaskaLaw

Special Needs

In most cases, guests with limited mobility can be accommodated. Individuals requiring wheelchairs can take one of the driving tours (Denali Photo Excursion and Midnight Sun Excursion) if they are able to get in and out of a vehicle at least once (at pick-up and drop-off) either on their own or with assistance from a companion. Guides may not be able to provide assistance. Individuals requiring wheelchairs should not take the Backcountry Photo Excursion. Please provide advanced notice about any specific needs before booking so that you can be paired with a tour that is suitable for you.

Denali Photo Guides reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who does not follow safety instructions given by their guide. There are many risk factors in Alaska that visitors are not accustomed to and therefore must follow the guide’s directions. • Kate R 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Absolutely fantastic outing. This tour was informative, scenic, fun, and just the right duration of 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Our guide, Paul, gave each of we three participants plenty of individual help with our photography questions and offered many useful tips. The drive South on the old Denali highway was interesting and provided many lovely landscape photo opportunities. As a bonus we saw a moose cow and her twin offspring. Probably the best outing of my entire two week trip to Alaska. Read more Written September 3, 2023
  • TahitiZ 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Denali Colors of Sunset Tour with Tyler M. Yates! My husband and I booked the Denali Colors of Sunset Tour through Princess Cruises for our first night staying in Denali. We met in the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge Lobby at 8:00 p.m. for our tour. We were driven around to various sites in a pickup truck. There was one other couple on the tour, and the gentleman was quite an experienced photographer with an amazing camera and lenses. His wife did not take photos and she mentioned that she was only there to support her husband. My husband used his Iphone 14 Promax and I used my Iphone 14 Promax and my Sony a6300 mirrorless lens camera for photos. We love to take photos but we are not experienced in photography by any means. Our guide, Tyler, was very kind and informative and he drove us to several great sites to take photos. Tyler worked with my husband and myself and showed us different settings to use on our cameras. The other gentleman on our tour did not really need any guidance, but Tyler also spent time talking with him. I was a bit concerned that I might be taking too much of Tyler's time, but then the other gentleman on the tour started giving me tips and guided me as well. It was a great experience. It was wonderful to have two people that are very passionate about photography providing tips and guidance. The weather did not cooperate for our tour and it was very gloomy and cloudy until near the end of our tour when we were blessed with some color! While we were driving back to our lodge (at 11:20 pm), we spotted a moose at the side of the road! Tyler turned his truck around so that we could shoot some photos of it from the side of the road. This was icing on the cake! Tyler provided his phone number and address and welcomed us to call with any photography questions we might have after the tour. We were glad we booked this tour! • All_Inclusive4109 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Well worth it! We took this guided photography tour with Tyler, who was amazing! He had lots of patience for a group of 4 very amateur people when it comes to photography. He knew of places where to take us, but also had the flexibility to change on the fly, which happened with us. For example, we got caught in a brief shower, but he knew that if we drove down a few miles, we'd be able to get amazing photos of the rainbow. It's just that type of attention to detail that made this experience top-notch. I'd do this again in a heartbeat when we get back to Denali. Read more Written August 7, 2023

Digital Camera World

I went on a tour of Alaska to improve my photography. Here's what I learned

I ’ve been traveling at every opportunity all of my life. My parents used to drag me off across Europe in the early 1950s, before roll-on/roll-off ferries. Unfortunately, 10 years ago I had a stroke. Lying in hospital, I imagined that at least I would now have more time for photography. Imagine my dismay when I got home to find that I didn’t have the strength in my arms even to lift my Nikon D800.

Thankfully, after some time with a compact camera, I’m back. Armed with a Nikon Z7 II and a Nikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR lens, my wife and I decided to head off to Alaska. I like to travel independently, but we now felt we needed the security of joining some group tours.

This curtailed many photo opportunities, of course, but it opened up many others. I spent some time considering this dilemma and came up with some constructive ideas so that we returned home with some credible images, not just factual reminders of our trip. Alaskans describe their state as the last frontier; every day was an adventure, and photographic opportunities abounded.

My best shots

I always like to go for a window seat on a plane; seat reclined, beer in one hand and camera in the other. It’s surprising what you can capture as the world flies by, and what comes along may be a complete surprise.

Flying over the Rockies, I got a bird’s-eye view of the peaks, enabling an image that is not normally available to us.

This chocolate-box landscape image was made available at a comfort stop on the bus tour. While some rushed to the loo, others waved their phones about taking selfies, crowding around each other for the best vantage point. By walking just 20 yards away down the path, I was able to dodge the crowd and capture the shot, still leaving enough time to use the facilities!

Always be prepared to grab a quick shot from a coach window; you’ll be surprised what opportunities might come your way. I travel with my Z7 II at the ready: Shutter Priority selected and set at, say, 1/400 sec; Auto ISO activated; and on single-point AF with focus prioritized, so that the shutter only fires when the subject is in focus.

When traveling on a bus, I like to select a window seat on the opposite side to the driver. This way, I don’t have to shoot across another lane of traffic. I’ve found that by pushing a finger hard onto the window and, an inch further up, a finger onto the lens hood, I can absorb some of the vibrations caused by the vehicle, while getting close enough to the glass to avoid reflections. One bonus is that modern coach and train windows are tinted, which I’ve found can work like a polarizer.

On a very rough whale-watching tour – everyone looked very green – we were lucky enough to see four whales diving and forcing their prey up to the surface. It was a tremendous opportunity for my Nikon, just like a David Attenborough documentary. Despite our good luck, we couldn’t stand up safely for the rolling boat. I was able to get to the very stern of the craft and, by forcing one foot on the port side (left) of the boat, the other on the transom (rear) and pushing my back into a fixed seat, I was able to transform my body into a tripod, leaving my hands to fire away.

We joined a small group on a brown bear viewing tour. Along with our guide, we ventured along a salmon river and, once again, we were in luck. I only had my trusty 24-200mm zoom lens and getting closer wasn’t an option, so I swapped to DX crop mode, which effectively turned the lens into a 300mm focal length, while sacrificing some pixels.

Denali (once referred to as Mount McKinley) is the highest mountain in North America, but the peak is rarely visible, as it’s usually covered in cloud. This view is so occasional that the bus driver made an unscheduled stop at the nearest lay-by and let passengers off for photos. Even the driver joined in to capture this rare photographic opportunity.

I set my camera to Aperture Priority and changed the crop mode from FX to DX. This wasn’t solely to fill more of the frame with the mountain, but to bring in more forest, because I liked the contrast between the green trees, the white snow and the beautiful blue sky.

My travel tour photography tips

  • Travel as light as possible. I have a gilet with large pockets – this enables me to ‘wear’ my daily equipment. A versatile superzoom lens, such as my 24-200mm, allows you to shoot multiple genres.
  • Traveling with a tour group does limit your freedom, but opportunities will occur. Be prepared by keeping your camera at the ready, as you often only have a split second to grab an image.
  • If you have a choice, plan activities carefully. For example, opt for nature tours in the early morning or late afternoon for the best chance of catching animals in action.

View from a park near the New Jerusalem Resurrection Monastery on the beautiful Elizabeth Barbican (above a gate) Tower (Russian: nadvratnaya Elizavetinskaya bashnya) framed by trees on a sunny spring day. Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Sugama Tourists is one of the most renowned bus operators in the undivided Dakshina Kannada District in the southern part of India. We at Sugama Tourists have always given utmost priority to ensure the complete satisfaction of our customers. We on a regular basis work towards fulfilling customer requirements and also anticipate requirements and work on them with our huge experience of the private bus industry. We always believe in designing our services according to the requirements of our customers and thus have included Tirupati Balaji Darshan package. With the grace of Lord Balaji, we have successfully done many trips carrying a huge number of pilgrims from Bangalore to Tirupati and back.

Sugama Tourist was founded by Mr. H Subhodh Ballal in the year 1977 under the banner of Anantha Padmanabha Motors(APM). Initially we only operated only one bus between Hebri and Kundapura, and we with our hard work kept on enhancing our business to new heights. Currently, we operate more than 140 buses on almost all the busy routes of South India to become a brand in the private bus operating market.

Since our inception, we were focussed on providing comfortable buses to our passengers and became the first ones to introduce the luxurious ACGL buses in North Karnataka. This increased our comfort quotient and created a reputation in the market which further pushed us to buy 20 more buses within one year.

With such measures, Sugama has maintained its brand value in the market and has passed on the same values to the other companies in its group like the Sugama Tourists Cargo Carriers which offers value-priced parcel delivery to all its destinations.

The sole motto of Sugama Tourist buses is to ensure safe and comfortable transport for its customers at reasonable rates.

Our safe and comfortable services include Bhatkal to Bangalore, Gangolly to Bangalore, Kundapur to Bangalore, Manipal to Bangalore, Karwar to Bangalore, Bijapur to Bangalore, Kokkarne to Bangalore, Udupi to Bangalore. We also offer tickets to other cities like Ankola, Bangalore, Bajpe, Dharmasthala, Gokarna, Hebri, Karwar, Kumta, Mangalore, Manipal and Sirsi.

Testimonials

sugama tourist race course road

I had the best bus journey of my life with Sugama Tourists. To start with, their online portal was very user-friendly. Next, it was the first time that I had seen the bus start at the designated time. When I got on the bus, the comfort that I felt was unmatchable. From the window of my seat, I could see bumpy roads but could not feel them much. They also dropped me 15 mins before the designated time. So all-in-all it was a perfect journey with nothing to complain about.

I travelled with Sugama Tourists a couple of days back. I was in a rush as my dad was feeling unwell and had to reach the hospital which was 6 hours away as soon as I could. I booked a seat with Sugama Tourists and to my surprise, they helped me reach before the time of arrival.

Travelling to places through Sugama Tourists is always affordable, convenient, and satisfactory. One of the finest bus operating services. The travel experience was awesome. You guys respect the passengers which none of the travels does. Please keep this in practice and one day you will be the best travels across. Very clean and value for money. Good job guys.

I always had this feeling that private bus drivers are very unprofessional and unsophisticated. But, when I travelled by Sugama Tourists realized that I was wrong! The staff was very well-mannered and quite friendly. They took extra care while loading the luggage. The bus was spotless with fresh curtains, bedsheets, and bedspreads. About the journey, It was great. No sudden breaks and rash driving. Overall, it was an amazing experience...

Tirumala Temple Pilgrimage

As we got beautiful support for our efficient bus operations, we planned to offer well planned and organized pilgrimages to holy sites. On popular request, we started with a one-day pilgrimage to the revered Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala. Comfort plus affordability were the things we had in mind while we designed our travel packages. The experience we offered delighted our patrons and continues to delight many as they get the chance to have a memorable darshan within a short timeline.

Due to constant demand and requests, we are regularly plying buses between Bangalore and Tirumala. We offer pick-up and drop off services to ease your pilgrimage to Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati, and we are the recognized network partner of APTDC.

Moscow metro to be more tourist-friendly

A new floor sign system at the Moscow metro's Pushkinskaya station. Source: Vladimir Pesnya / RIA Novosti

For many years now, Moscow has lagged behind St. Petersburg when it comes to making life easy for tourists, especially where getting around the city is concerned. Whereas the northern capital installed English-language maps, signs and information points throughout its subway system in the late 2000s, the Russian capital’s metro remained a serious challenge for foreign visitors to navigate.

Recent visitors to Moscow may have noticed some signs that change is afoot, however. In many stations of the Moscow subway, signs have appeared on the floor – with large lettering in Russian and English – indicating the direction to follow in order to change lines. Previously, foreign visitors using the Moscow metro had to rely solely upon deciphering the Russian-language signs hanging from the ceilings.

Student volunteers help tourists find their way in Moscow

However, this new solution has a significant drawback. “The floor navigation is visible only to a small stream of people – fewer than three people per meter. During peak hours, this navigation will simply not be noticed,” said Konstantin Trofimenko, Director of the Center for Urban Transportation Studies.

One of the biggest problems for tourists in the Russian capital remains the absence of English translations of the names of subway stations in the station vestibules and on platforms. The Department of Transportation in Moscow has not commented yet as to when this problem will be solved. However, Latin transliterations of station names can already be found in the subway cars themselves.

Finding the right exit

At four of the central stations – Okhotny Ryad, Teatralnaya, Ploshchad Revolyutsii, Lubyanka and Kuznetsky Most – the city authorities have now installed colorful stands at the exits with schematic diagrams of the station’s concourse and surrounding area, which provide information about the main attractions and infrastructural facilities.

The schematic diagrams are the work of British specialists from the City ID and Billings Jackson Design firms, who have already implemented successful projects in New York and London.

According to Alexei Novichkov, expert at the Design Laboratory at the Higher School of Economics, the design of these information booths raises no objections: The color solutions, font, layout and icons are consistent with international standards.

Kudankulam

However, the stands do have some shortcomings. “Many questions are raised about the fact that the developers of these maps did not apply orientation to the north, and have provided layouts of the surrounding areas with respect to the exits,” says Novichkov. “A system like that is used for road navigators, but most of the ‘paper’ guides and maps are oriented strictly to north. The subway map is also oriented to north, so people may become confused.”

Muscovites and foreign visitors are generally positive about these navigation elements, with most of them citing the numbered exits from the subway as the most useful feature.

The fact is that many Moscow subway stations have several exits. One of the busiest central stations of the Moscow subway in particular, Kitay-Gorod, has more than a dozen exits. Previously, these exits were differentiated from each other only with signs in Russian referring to the names of streets and places of interest to which they led – making it easy for tourists and those with poor navigation skills to get confused.

Now, when making an appointment to meet a friend, instead of struggling to find the right spot when they tell you: “I'll meet you at the exit to Solyanka Street,” you can just propose to meet under a specific exit number.

“I’ve lived in Moscow for seven years,” says Angelika, a designer from Voronezh, “but I still don’t always know where to go to find the place I need, so the new schematic diagrams will be very useful. Previously, some subway stations had maps, but not with so much detail.”

Teething problems

Foreigners, meanwhile, focus their attention on other elements. “It is good that the new information boards have QR-codes, which can be ‘read’ by smartphones,” says Florentina, a writer from Vienna. But there are also shortcomings. “The English font of the information on posters and in the captions to theaters and museums is too small – you have to come very close to see it well,” she says.

Pleasant encounters on the streets of Moscow

Florentina was also dissatisfied with the fact that such posters are not provided at all subway stations: “When I was trying to find Tsaritsyno Park (a museum and reserve in the south of Moscow) at a subway station with the same name, it turned out to be quite difficult,” she says.

“There are no maps with landmarks for other areas, such as those already in the city center. There were no clear pointers in the English language, and the passers-by I met did not speak in English, so they could not help me,” she adds.

Officials say that the navigation system is gradually being redeveloped and improved. According to Darya Chuvasheva, a press representative for the Department of Transport of Moscow, the introduction of a unified navigation system will take place in stages.

“By the end of 2014, the system will first appear on the first subway stations on the Circle Line. By the end of 2015, we plan to install the system at all major stopping points, subway stations and transport interchange hubs,” says Chuvasheva.

In total, the contract between Elemash Magnit LLC (an enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom in Elektrostal, Moscow region) and Red Wind B.V. (a joint venture of NovaWind JSC and the Dutch company Lagerwey) foresees manufacturing and supply over 200 sets of magnets. One set is designed to produce one power generator.

“The project includes gradual localization of magnets manufacturing in Russia, decreasing dependence on imports. We consider production of magnets as a promising sector for TVEL’s metallurgical business development. In this regard, our company does have the relevant research and technological expertise for creation of Russia’s first large-scale full cycle production of permanent rare-earth magnets,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.

“NovaWind, as the nuclear industry integrator for wind power projects, not only made-up an efficient supply chain, but also contributed to the development of inter-divisional cooperation and new expertise of Rosatom enterprises. TVEL has mastered a unique technology for the production of magnets for wind turbine generators. These technologies will be undoubtedly in demand in other areas as well,” noted Alexander Korchagin, Director General of NovaWind JSC.

industry. The production facilities of Elemash Magnit LLC are located in the city of Elektrostal, Moscow Region, at the site of Elemash Machine-Building Plant (a nuclear fuel fabrication facility of TVEL Fuel Company).
