World Explorer Kicks Off Rivages du Monde 2024 Cruise Program

The World Explorer recently kicked off the 2024 cruise program of Belgium-based tour operator Rivages du Monde.

Chartered from Mystic Cruises, the 200-guest ship is set to offer a series of itineraries in Europe and the Atlantic for the company, which caters to French-speaking guests.

The season mixes expedition sailings and traditional cruises and started with a nine-night voyage to Portugal’s Atlantic Isles.

After departing from Porto on April 20, the cruise is set to sail to Madeira and the Azores, visiting a total of six destinations before ending in Funchal.

Among the ports of call on the itinerary are less usual destinations for cruise ships, such as Vila do Porto de Santa Maria and Lajes do Pico. The cruise is also set to visit Ponta Delgada, Ilha da Graciosa and Horta.

Continuing Rivages du Monde’s 2024 cruise program, the World Explorer is also set to offer itineraries to the Norwegian Fjords, the North Cape, the Lofoten Isles, Spitsbergen, Iceland, Greenland and the Canadian Arctic.

Before ending the company’s annual cruise season in October, the 200-guest vessel is also set to offer itineraries in Canada’s St. Lawrence River, as well as the Caribbean, the Panama Canal and South America.

The World Explorer is then set to operate a winter season in Antarctica for Quark Expeditions before offering another cruise program for Rivages du Monde in 2025.

Originally in service for Mystic’s Nicko Cruises brand, the World Explorer was built at the West Sea shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.

Designed to offer exploration cruises in remote and polar areas, the 9,300-ton ship is equipped with a series of expedition-ready features, including a dedicated mudroom, an ice-class room, a fleet of Zodiacs and more.

Recently sold to Windstar Cruises , the 2019-built vessel is scheduled to undergo a major refurbishment before becoming the Star Explorer in December 2026.

What is the payment schedule for the Ultimate World Cruise and the four Ultimate Cruise segments?

To reserve a stateroom on the Ultimate World Cruise or one of the four Ultimate Cruise segments a non-refundable deposit is required. Final payment must be received by Royal Caribbean 180 days prior to cruise departure. For bookings created within 180 days prior to cruise departure, final payment must be received within 48 hours of booking.

How long do I have to place my deposit for the Ultimate World Cruise or one of the four Ultimate Cruise segments?

If outside of final payment, our Ultimate World Cruise and Ultimate Cruise segment guests are able to place a two-week hold to lock in their preferred stateroom and price before deposit is required. Your deposit must be placed within the two-week offer period to secure your selected stateroom.

This 'Air Cruise' Takes You to 5 Continents in a Private Jet With Lie-flat Seats and a Bar

Safrans du Monde's world tour starts in Paris and ends with a safari in Tanzania. Here's how to get on board.

Looking an exclusive around-the-world trip? Luxury French tour operator Safrans du Monde has you covered. The company just announced its 2024 World Tour Special Edition, set to begin in Paris on March 10, 2024. It will take guests to nine of the most stunning city and beach destinations around the globe in 24 days.

Guests will first jet off to Mexico City for a three-night stay to explore its neighborhoods, landmarks (such as the floating gardens of Xochimilco and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe), and beautiful architecture. Then, they will go to Hawaii and tour Honolulu and the Big Island in 48 hours. The air cruise continues in gorgeous Fiji for a Melanesian journey through its culture, customs, and picture-perfect landscapes.

New Zealand, Australia, and Tasmania are next, where travelers will immerse themselves in Indigenous Māori culture and wander otherworldly sites like Perth's Wave Rock and Pinnacles Desert.

After a quick two-day stop in Singapore, guests will take a few days to relax on the beautiful beaches of the Maldives before ending the trip with a safari in Tanzania.

That private aviation service happens on an Airbus A340 that will take guests on this journey of a lifetime. The plane’s cabin is equipped with all reclining seats transforming into lie-flat beds, and guests are treated to drinks and multi-course meals prepared by a private chef. And if that’s not enough, there’s even a bar on board offering a curated list of wines, Champagne, and cocktails.

All-inclusive air cruise rates start at €75,000 per person (approximately $82,000), but the itinerary can be tailored with two additional destinations (Paris and Rwanda) or other experiences. The rate also includes stays at some of the most luxurious hotels in the world, including the Four Seasons, St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, Six Senses, and Fairmont.

This is not Safrans du Monde’s first air cruise. In 2022, the company teamed up with business-class-only airline La Compagnie on a similar tour, and just a few days ago, guests returned from a 22-day private jet cruise that took them to destinations like Jordan, French Polynesia, Cambodia, and India.

This package offers guests the chance to enjoy beverages at the Main restaurant onboard for Lunch and Dinner opening hours, along with the Buffet area during Lunch and Dinner hours only. The package includes a range of wines served by the glass, such as white, red, rose & sparkling wines, draught beer, mineral water, fountain-soda, and fruit juices.

The Buffet area is open for Lunch from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM and for Dinner from 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM.

Cruising Through the Air for the Ultimate World Tour

W ith familiar names such as Aman and Four Seasons in the game, air cruises—a concept that connects travelers to multiple destinations on a single trip via a private jet—are trending among elite circles today.

The Paris-based Safrans du Monde, however, was a frontrunner in the space when Guy Bigiaoui launched the brand in 2003. The former airline-industry veteran who worked in sales for carriers such as Air France and Alitalia (now defunct), says that he envisioned offering travelers the ultimate world tour.

“My dream was to visit places all over the globe on one getaway without spending a lot of time, and I decided to bring the idea to life with Safrans du Monde,” Bigiaoui says. “The trips I’ve designed are meant to be journeys of a lifetime. Settle into your seat on board your private jet, sip a glass of Dom Perignon, and take off for 25 days. You wake up every three days in a new universe.”

Safrans du Monde offers two air cruises a year on an Airbus A340 that has been refitted with 100 seats, a lounge and a bar. They span between 24 to 25 days each and hit a diversity of locations, including Easter Island, Bora Bora, Tasmania, Queenstown, Singapore, and the Serengeti; the price begins at around US$81,000 per person.

Bigiaoui, 60, spoke with Penta about his air cruises and what experiences and amenities his guests seek most on these getaways.

Penta: Safrans du Monde offers two styles of air cruises. Can you explain what they are, and how they differ?

Guy Bigiaoui: The seats on board our Airbus A340, which has fully flat beds, are the same for all guests. However, our Première Safrans guests enjoy significant upgrades on all the other moments of the tour, such as menus and wine selection on board, smaller groups during visits, stays in larger rooms or suites and special excursions, such as a luxury train in Machu Picchu and helicopter flights in multiple destinations.

How do you choose your destinations?

The itineraries are meant to offer a panoramic vision, and each destination illustrates a different facet of the world. It may be for its unique natural beauty or fauna, its cultural exception, or the paradise feeling it brings such as with the Maldives.

The flight durations are also considered. If the trip entails one long flight such as eight hours, for example, the next air trip will be three or four.

Who is your customer, and how has that changed over the years?

We welcome solos, couples, and friends traveling together. They are mainly American and Europeans, mostly aged between 55 and 75 and share a strong desire to see the world without sacrificing luxury.

Quite often, they love the trips so much that they book another air cruise.

In recent years, we have seen more clients in their 30s and 40s, who have come into money at a young age and want to spend it on the exclusivity that an air cruise gives them.

What changes has your company seen in travel trends since the pandemic?

Since the pandemic, we started to observe luxury travelers who want to get the most out of their time and money. They want quality experiences that allow for deeper exploration of places and enriching encounters with local people. They’re more interested in capturing memories and not acquiring material goods.

When it comes to on-the-ground experiences, which ones resonate most with travelers?

Dining under the stars in a privatized Angkor temple while the majestic apsara dancers of the Royal Ballet of Cambodia bring back life to the carved “bas reliefs” of Angkor Wat visited earlier the same day. Soaking in the sunset on Easter Island while holding a glass of champagne. These are the two most talked about ones.

Luxury travel is also about responsibility, so sometimes we visit a school or a community and may participate in a project such as repainting a building.

We also add in surprises every step of the way that our guests comment on again and again. I can’t say what they are because they wouldn’t be surprises anymore.

What amenities do travelers value most, both in the air and at hotels?

The French touch when it comes to food and wine, the space on board, the freedom to choose among a variety of explorations at destinations, the quality of our local guides, and our team of at least 12 people, who are at their disposal throughout the journey such as me as the host, our tour leaders, coordinators, and videographer who creates a 30-minute movie that’s personalized for each guest.

They also appreciate the physician and chef who fly with us on the plane.

On the ground, our guests enjoy our carefully picked restaurants and hotels with large rooms and the small size of each independent group that gives this rare feeling that you’re traveling with a group of your friends.

This morning, you take off for Lima, Peru. There, a whole range of options are available to you at no extra charge:

From Cusco to Machu Picchu

After a short domestic commercial flight, you'll dine at your hotel restaurant in the center of Cusco.

Tomorrow, after a visit to Cusco, you'll set off for the Sacred Valley. A meeting with a Quechua community awaits you on the way as you enter the Valley. Enjoy a free afternoon at your hotel in Urumbamba.

Finally, you'll cross the Sacred Valley and its picturesque villages (without stopping) by train with panoramic views, to reach lush Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu.

Excursion to Arequipa

After a short domestic commercial flight, you're off to Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage city that proudly bears much of Peru's history. Its narrow squares, alleyways and gardens with Spanish city names are reminiscent of the old quarters of Seville or Granada. Its Place d'Armes is one of the most beautiful in the country, the residences of the Spanish nobility are elegant, as are the sumptuous religious monuments which, like the Church of Campania, sometimes recount the dialogue between Christian angels and characters from Inca mythology. You can also visit the Cathedral and the Convent of Santa Catalina, with their ochre, blue and white facades. The "White City" is beautiful, joyful and sumptuous, just like the evening we have in store for you.

Excursion to Trujillo

You reach Trujillo after a short domectic commercial flight for a three-day stay in the north iof Peru, where ancient history meets modern refinement. Explore the archaeological sites of the Moche civilization, relax in a charming hotel in the heart of the city, and sample exquisite Peruvian cuisine. Immerse yourself in pre-Inca culture at Chan Chan, enjoy fresh seafood on the beach at Huanchaco, and be seduced by traditional Peruvian dance. This morning, if you travel in Club Safrans , we invite you to an on-demand excursion around the Island of Tahiti, starting with the splendid panoramic view from the Taharaa to the botanical gardens via the Arahoho Blowhole, One Tree Hill and the magnificent Vaipahi gardens. The greenery is lush and shelters a beautiful waterfall. You will have the time to enjoy lunch in the midst of all these sights before continuing to bask in the beauty of the Vaipahi gardens. This exquisite day will come to an end with a trip to the Maraa caves.

The day will be devoted to the north of Manhattan. You'll take a carriage ride through Central Park. The day's highlights include Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and the Guggenheim Museum. Your road takes you to Harlem, where you will be surprised by the unexpected bas-reliefs of Saint John The Divine Cathedral.

To round off your perfect day in New York, we've booked a very... "New York style" evening for you. with a traditional pre-theatre dinner followed by a Broadway musical.

Before and after the show, you'll also be immersed in the magical atmosphere of Times Square, with its illuminated signs and frenetic atmosphere.

This exciting, typically New York day is dedicated to the south of the city. The tour begins in the heart of Wall Street and continues with a visit to the Ground Zero site at the foot of One World Trade Center. Conditions of Cancellation:

Any cancellation will have to be communicated by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt and will involve the following cancellation costs depending on the date of receipt: • 180 days or more before departure: 10 % of the amount of the journey; • From 179 to 120 days before departure: 30 % of the amount of the journey; • From 119 to 90 days before departure: 40 % of the amount of the journey; • From 89 to 60 days before departure: 50 % of the travel amount; • From 59 to 30 days before departure: 75 % of the amount of the journey; • Less than 30 days before departure: 100 per cent of the travel amount;

Our prices payable in Euros are firm, but they can be revised according to the conditions described below and the terms of the General Conditions of Sale of article R.211-12 of the Tourist Code. Our prices are based on the economic conditions in force on December 20, 2023 in particular for the rates of accommodation, transport, fuel (IATA 805 USD/T), taxes (stay, security, airport, etc.) and the exchange rate US Dollar (1 EUR = 1,08 USD), Australian Dollar (1 EUR = 1,62 AUD) and Pacific Franc (1 EUR = 120 XPF). Air transport is provided for under this program, airlines and aircraft types are listed for information only, subject to change without notice. If the group does not reach the minimum number of participants related to the type of aircraft, the Air Cruise may be canceled.
