Journey sets players off as a robed figure in a great desert, on a path leading toward a distant mountain. It's a linear experience across multiple levels, with some gentle puzzles to solve and occasional encounters with other human players on their own journeys; you'll spend most of your time walking but you can also fly briefly, thanks to the powers of a magic scarf. As Shaun noted in April, "It's a simple concept, but the execution is gorgeous ."

Flower, originally released in 2009, is conceptually similar: You are " an invisible petal wizard ," as Jody aptly described it, blowing flower petals across idyllic, breezy landscapes. There are no enemies, scoring, or anything else, really—it's just meditative, musical exploration. 

Journey is currently on sale on Steam for $11/£8.50/€9, until July 9. It also remains available on the Epic Games Store , but it's not on sale there.

In Journey, you play as a nameless, nearly faceless creature of indeterminate origin. You’re decked in a robe that could be perceived as religious garb (or could just as easily just be a nicely decorated robe.) There is no real preamble to explain your character, where they came from, or why they find themselves standing in the middle of a vast, lonely desert. Nor do you get a particular explanation for why you are compelled to venture toward a distant mountain, with a peak that glows in a way that practically beckons you forward. Outpath: First Journey is a free-to-play simulation game for PC by developer David Moralejo Sanchez. It is a first-person base-building title made in pixel art style. In it, players will build a base in the middle of the ocean and slowly expand to more islands as they grow.

Combining the survival elements from Subnautica with the lighthearted gameplay and presentation of Minecraft , Outpath: First Journey manages to create a relaxing and casual game that players can enjoy at their own pace. It's a demo, serving as a prologue chapter for the arrival of the full Outpath game.

Island-hopping

Outpath is a base-building game with clicker gameplay mechanics , meaning you can interact with its world and play it with a simple mouse click. You are tasked with establishing your base in the middle of the ocean, and slowly expanding your territory to other neighboring islands. Outpath: First Journey is a prologue chapter and a preview to let you experience what it has to offer firsthand.

With a clicker game premise in mind, the gameplay lets you automate the building process so things are progressing even when you're not in the game. Scavenge resources that you'll need to craft items and materials, and fish for food to survive. Moving about is also quite fluid with parkour-like movement that lets you swiftly jump from one area to another as needed.

Level up your skills and unlock new building blueprints as you progress. Once your base is self-sustaining and you have earned enough, you can then buy up other islands to harvest their resources and discover hidden secrets. Now, one of the biggest pitfalls in the clicker game genre has always been the gameplay variety or lack thereof. Unfortunately, this game also suffers from the same fate.

A promising preview

All in all, Outpath: First Journey serves as a nice preview of what you can expect when with the full game. The pixel art style is charming and it lives up to its claim of being a clicker-style game with simple controls and an automated building system. Unfortunately, it also falls to the trap of lackluster content problem, but hopefully, it gets addressed once Outpath releases.

Some people enjoy playing a game because it has a good story. Fans of The Longest Journey like playing because they enjoy a very long story. This game is as close to an epic as a video game is able to come. The game is not for children because the story is complex, the ideas are intelligent, and there is frequent swearing and nudity.

Art-filled areas to explore and discover

You play the part of a young student who has to strike a balance between a dreamy magical realm and our logical and scientific realm. The game has over 150 locations to explore that differ dramatically based on if you are stepping into the realm of magic, or if you are stepping back into our world. The Longest Journey offers smooth game play that is littered with plot points that push the story along.Different NPCs have back stories that add depth to the narrative, and even the magical creatures have their own motivations and stories to tell. The game is a role-playing game that works in an episodic fashion as you move from one picturesque location to the next. The story is told along the bottom of the screen where text appears indicating what is being said and what is happening. The game has its fair share of puzzles. Most of the puzzles in the human realm are logical, whereas the ones in the magical realm are a little dreamier where the answers are less obvious.

A game for adults who are willing to commit to a story

One cannot emphasize how long the Longest Journey is. There is a lot of reading and most people cannot complete it within less than fifty hours. The game is not driven by speech. The main character offers expressions of empathy, dry wit, insightful commentary and introspection. You both watch the events unfold and peer into the mind of the young woman experiencing said events.
