Charleston Yacht Tours start at $900 for 2.5 hours. If you want to book a Charleston Harbor Cruise all day or night, it will only cost you an extra $400 an hour. Additional hours must be booked in advance. Due to time constraints, swimming is only available on cruises for three hours or more. Have a smaller group? Check out our other boats.

Do the boats have bathrooms?

YES. All our vessels except the Skiff have bathrooms on board.

Do you serve food and drinks?

We have a few great catering contacts that will deliver food to the boat prior to your trip. You are welcome to bring anything you want to eat or drink. We provide coolers and ice on board.

Are glass bottles allowed?

We allow glass but recommend other options for your safety.

Can we bring more guests?

The boat capacities are set by the Coast Guard. We can not take over those limits.

Where are the boats?

All boats except the skiff are at Ripley Light Yacht Club. Less than 2 minutes from Downtown.

What happens with bad weather?

The weather in Charleston can be tricky. We want you to have the best time possible with us. Sometimes we can go a little early. Or wait a little bit to get the charter in. Mosty rain showers only last 15-20 minutes. We usually get every charter in. It is the Captains Call on the day of the charter. We give full refund if we can not go.

Can we swim?

Yes on cruises 3hrs or more. The current is very strong and we go to a few spots around the Harbor where it is safe. We can't just stop anywhere.

Can we bring floats?

Yes. We also have floats for guests to use.

Are there extra taxes and fees?

The price advertised is the price you pay. We include a 15% tip that goes entirely to the crew.

How do we pay?

You can book and pay right on our website at Our Fleet, email us, or call and we can book you. We accept all credit cards.

Do you take deposits?

Yes. You can pay in full or make a deposit. The balance is due the week before the trip.

Is there a stereo?

If you’re interested in taking in the Charleston Harbor and its surroundings from the deck of a historic sailing vessel, then you’ll want to take a tour aboard the Schooner Pride . The Schooner Pride offers three options—a daytime dolphin sale, a sunset sail, and a full moon sail for adults only. 4. Holy City Boat Tours Sunset Cruise

Another option if you’re looking for a more intimate experience is the Holy City Boat Tours sunset cruise. Once you step onboard the 28-foot “one-of-a-kind” Carolina Skiff, you’ll be treated to a cruise up the Ashley River to the historic Charleston Battery, with the potential to spot dolphins along the way. According to Holy City Boat Tours, “After enjoying the beautiful Historic homes on the Battery and taking photos[,] we will continue on our leisurely cruise back to watch the sun set [while we] continue to spot dolphin and other beautiful shorebirds.”

5. Bulls Island Ferry

A very different type of boat tour, the Bulls Island Ferry takes a small group of passengers on a calm ride through the pristine Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge to the undisturbed beach on Bulls Island. Since Bulls Island is a fair distance away from downtown Charleston and only accessible by boat, it receives few visitors other than those who arrive on the ferry. You’ll be able to explore and photograph the famous “boneyard beach;” and, depending on the time of year, you may get to spot sea turtle tracks in the sand. The Bulls Island Ferry departs from Garris Landing, just a short drive north of Mount Pleasant.

6. Dolphin Watching on Bohicket Creek

If you’re interested in heading south of Charleston instead of north, Captain Jack’s Sailing and Dolphin Watching Tour is a fantastic option. Departing from Bohicket Marina on Seabrook Island (just a short drive from Kiawah), this Charleston boat tour explores the calm waters of Bohicket Creek. You can choose to go with a small group or have the sailboat all to yourself (and your captain), and you’ll be invited to enjoy drinks onboard while you keep an eye out for dolphins breaking the surface of the water.

7. Historic Fort Sumter Tour

Another option in the Charleston Harbor is the Historic Fort Sumter Tour . Departing from the Fort Sumter Visitor Center downtown, this boat tour takes you through the Harbor to Fort Sumter, where you’ll have an hour to explore before getting back on the ship to return to the peninsula. This is the only way to set foot on Fort Sumter; so, if this is on your bucket list, this is definitely a boat tour you won’t want to miss. There is an extended dinner cruise option on Friday nights as well.

8. Charleston Water Taxi

The Charleston Water Taxi departs hourly from Waterfront Park and the Maritime Center in downtown Charleston, as well as from Patriots Point and Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina in Mount Pleasant. While you can use the Water Taxi to get from one side of the harbor to the other, you can also simply take a cruise—and many people do so as a cost-effective alternative. Currently, it costs $14 for an all-day pass, and children ages three and under can ride the Water Taxi for free.

9. Charleston Pirate Adventure Cruise

Another kid-friendly option is the Pirate Adventure Cruise offered by Pirates of Charleston . We took this cruise one year for my daughter’s birthday, and it was a really great experience. The crew really gets into it, and the kids get to play an integral role in the ship’s hunt for its lost sunken treasure. Pirates of Charleston offers private birthday pirate cruises for parties of up to 30 (including kids and adults) as well.

10. Saltwater Cycle

Finally, if you’re looking for the opposite of a kid-friendly Charleston boat tour, then you’ll want to check out Saltwater Cycle . You can choose between the Cycle Boat (which has a motor in addition to being powered by passengers’ legs) and the tiki-inspired Charleston Brew Barge. Saltwater Cycle offers a variety of tour options, including booze cruises, bachelorette and wedding cruises, holiday cruises, sunset tours, and more.

Which of these Charleston boat tours sounds most intriguing to you? No matter which option you choose, you really can’t go wrong. Any time on the water in Charleston is time well spent; and, whether you go with your significant other, family, or friends, you’re in for the experience of a lifetime.

Here’s an insider tip: If you are thinking about taking a boat tour in the Charleston Harbor during the summer, consider going on Wednesday evening. During the summer months, the Charleston Ocean Racing Association (CORA) hosts sailboat races every Wednesday night (weather permitting). You’ll see dozens of sailboats crisscrossing the Harbor, from fleets of smaller boats with two-person crews to 40-plus foot yachts with crews of a dozen or more sailors.

A Special Option for Netflix's Outer Banks Fans

Are you a fan of Netflix's Outer Banks? If so, you probably know that much of the show is filmed in Charleston. But, what you might not know is that many of the show's most-famous filming locations are accessible (and in some cases  only accessible) by water--and you can visit them by boat! There are a few local operators that offer Outer Banks filming locations boat tours--with many running tours multiple times per week year-round.

If you’re interested in seeing Charleston by water but aren’t interested in taking a guided tour aboard a sailboat, catamaran, or power vessel, you still have plenty of options available. Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) are both great options—and you can either rent and go by yourself or go with an experienced guide. If you’re comfortable at the helm, you can rent a boat as well. There are boat rental companies on both sides of the peninsula, with options ranging from 20-foot bowriders to 40-foot bareboat sailboat and catamaran charters.

Charleston’s Cultural Gems

In the historic district of Charleston, South Carolina , just beneath the commanding new International African American Museum (IAAM) , glassy water in a sculptural reflecting pool ebbs and flows. The sound and sight of this powerfully moving sculpture called Tide Tribute pulls the senses toward the harbor and the Atlantic beyond. Charleston is a port and a portal, its handmade bricks connecting past and present, ancestry and innovation, ache and hope. No matter what aspect of art or culture you’re interested in, the enriching institutions in this area—new and historic—will help you better understand the South, the country, and the world at large.

The new IAAM building itself, set on oyster-shell tabby columns, hovers thirteen feet above historic Gadsden’s Wharf and a field of swaying sweetgrass. The land and the exhibitions inside connect the Charleston Lowcountry back to the story and legacies of the enslaved African people who shaped this region and the African American artists and experts who continue to inform Southern culture and foodways.

International African American Museum (IAAM)

Steps away from the new museum, ferries churn toward one of the Charleston area’s older sites— Fort Sumter , where Confederate troops fired the first shots of the American Civil War. There’s always more to the story riding the waters here: In 1862, Robert Smalls, an enslaved boat crewmember, safely piloted a group of independence seekers past the fort and to freedom.

The skyline rolls out from the water—not just the downtown peninsula, but the coastline and its beaches, from north to south. This Lowcountry region and its rivers shape a singular ecosystem, and there are a few ways to get even closer, letting the saltwater breeze lift your spirit. Tours by Coastal Expeditions and Charleston Outdoor Adventures promise serene marshland adventures, during which you might find fossilized shark teeth, spot a roseate spoonbill, and if you’re lucky, maybe even see a dolphin pod on an easy motorboat or kayak excursion from launch points at Folly Beach, Shem Creek, Isle of Palms, and Kiawah.

City Market

Travel back downtown, where a short drive or leisurely stroll will take you deep into the heart of the action. There’s the Charleston Museum , which just marked an astonishing 250 years of collecting and preserving, making it America’s first museum. From the entryway’s breathtaking right whale skeleton to the collections of South Carolina jewelry, silver, and even eighteenth-century clothing, there’s something fascinating at every turn. Just a bit south, at Charleston’s iconic City Market , a walk through the stalls of friendly vendors is another sensory feast—the warm nutty smell of locally baked Benne wafers, sketches of Lowcountry marshes, beautiful handmade jewelry, and sweetgrass baskets, still woven with the same native materials and skills that have been passed down by generations of artisans.

Curious visitors can learn even while they eat and drink, too. At the art-filled Vendue hotel, soak in the incredible collection of modern paintings and sculptures, and then take the elevator to the rooftop bar for a photo-worthy view of historic steeples above the water, best enjoyed with a local brew in hand. Among so many lauded restaurants that have made the Charleston area one of the world’s most respected dining destinations, it’s hard to go wrong with any of the oyster bars and fine restaurants. Here’s a local’s tip: Spend some time out at Shem Creek , where casual fish houses and chill watering holes are a fun way to decompress and watch the sun hit the water.

Charleston Museum

A happily full weekend might also include some post-sunset entertainment, whether it’s grabbing tickets to a musical at the h istoric Dock Street Theatre , seeing a favorite author speak at the stately Gaillard Center , or sipping a local spirit at Firefly Distillery while listening to country greats, all of whom have recently played at the spacious new outdoor venue.

Where you rest your head after a packed day adds to the whole experience. Beachgoers will enjoy the luxurious Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms , where local artists exhibit at the Gallery at Sweetgrass . Or, if you’re sticking to downtown, historic hotels include the charming and yellow-painted Andrew Pinckney Inn and the striking Wentworth Mansion . New spots have plenty of cultural experiences to offer too. Take The Loutrel , for example. Before a nightcap at the inviting new hotel’s lobby bar, chat with the front desk to book one of the Hidden Alleys & Pathways walking tours. The promise of a local guide pointing you down brick-lined paths toward new discoveries is reason to rest well. Then, you can rise again for a new day of learning all around Charleston .
