This article explains how to fix a Disney Plus Error Code 83.

Disney Plus Error Code 83 is about the worst error you can get when trying to enjoy streaming on Disney Plus. It's not at all descriptive about what the problem is and, to make matter worse, Error Code 83 completely blocks you from streaming on Disney Plus . If you're running into this problem, you're in luck: here's what causes the error, and how to fix it.

Disney Plus Error Code 83 can affect virtually any kind of device that can run Disney Plus, including computers, smartphones, tablets, a streaming device like Apple TV or Roku, smart TVs , and gaming consoles. The explanation and suggestions in this article apply to all those kinds of devices.

What Causes Disney Plus Error Code 83

Disney is frustratingly tight-lipped about what causes Error Code 83. The Disney Plus support page simply says that the error "means we experienced an unknown error streaming to your device. This is typically a device compatibility issue, connection error, or account issue."

Not very helpful, right? Maybe not directly, but narrowing the error down to an issue with your device, your internet connection, or your account actually gives us a lot of steps to try to fix it.

To fix Disney Plus Error Code 83, try the following steps in the order listed.

Error Code 83 can happen on lots of different kinds of devices, so some of these steps may not apply to your device. For the steps that do apply, the specific actions to take will depend on your device.

Make sure Disney Plus isn't down . The problem with Disney Plus might not be your device. It could be that Disney Plus isn't working overall right now. So, a good place to start is by finding out if the problem is the service or something on your end.

Check device compatibility. Since Error Code 83 often points to a problem with compatibility between your device and Disney Plus, the first thing to do when you get the error is to check the Disney Plus supported devices list . If your device isn't listed there, that's your problem and you'll need to use a different device.

Linux users, pay special attention. As of this writing, Disney Plus doesn't support Linux at all, no matter the distribution or browser you use.

Check your web browser. If your device is compatible with Disney Plus, you could be getting Error Code 83 because your web browser is incompatible. Disney Plus supports Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on Windows; Safari, Chrome and Firefox on macOS; and Chrome on Chrome OS. Check Disney Plus' computer and browser requirements , and if your browser isn't compatible, you'll need to use one that is.

Check internet connection and speed. If your Internet connection is down or isn't fast enough, you won't be able to stream video from Disney Plus. The Disney Plus internet speed recommendations will give you a good idea of what speeds you need, then you can test your internet speed or try using internet speed test sites to find out if it's sufficient to stream content from the service.

Restart your device . This is a cliched troubleshooting step for a reason: it's easy and it works more often than not. While restarting your device may not solve Error Code 83, it could and it's so easy and quick it's always worth a try.

Update the Disney Plus app. When new versions of apps are released, the old ones often become incompatible. That could be your problem here. If you're using a smartphone, tablet, gaming console, streaming device, or smart TV, go to your device's app store and see if there's a Disney Plus app update to install.

Delete and reinstall the Disney Plus app. Even if there's no update available, the problem could still be your app. If there's some kind of bug or data corruption in your app, it could cause Error Code 83. Completely delete the app and reinstall it to see if that fixes the problem.

Upgrade your device firmware or OS. Just an older app version can cause compatibility issue, so can running an old version of your device's operating system or firmware. If none of the steps so far have worked, check to see if your device has an OS or firmware upgrade available and install it.

For instructions, check out How to Update iOS Wirelessly on the iPhone , How to Update Your Android OS , and How to Update a Samsung Smart TV .

Try a Different Account. The explanation of Error Code 83 from Disney is that it can be caused by account problems. All of our steps so far have centered on fixing software, but if nothing else has worked yet, maybe the problem is your account. Try signing in with another account that you know works. If you can do that and don't get Error Code 83, then the problem is your account. Check your billing details and subscription status, and contact Disney Plus support if needed.

Error code 39 on Disney Plus usually indicates that you need a more secure connection for your streaming service. The error mainly shows up if you use the Windows 10 Xbox app to stream Xbox One to your computer. One solution is to stop streaming from your Xbox One, but there are more troubleshooting tips to fix error code 39 .

Error code 41 means that the video you’re trying to watch is temporarily unavailable. Error code 41 usually pops up when a certain title is under high-traffic. Try watching the video later.

Error 83 on Disney Plus: Why you're getting it and how to deal with it

Erroring out is not magical

With hundreds of films from the most popular franchises on the planet — not to mention thousands of TV episodes from our childhood — it's little wonder that Disney+ is popular. However, when errors invade your movie marathon, things are anything but magical. There's a few different errors Disney+ can spit out when things go awry, but Error 83 is by far the most prevalent Disney+ error you come across. Here's a few of the reasons you may be seeing it, and what you can do about it.

Reason #1 — Server timeout

Error 83 is one of the most common errors. When the servers are overloaded and your Disney+ session can't connect to the servers fast enough to pass a DRM/account check — or can't connect at all — Error 83 is what Disney+ displays when it can't play your video as requested.

This is far and away the most common reason to see Error 83, and dealing with it can take a few forms:

  • Try again. Server issues are usually intermittent, so if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Refreshing your browser page or closing and re-opening an app can usually get you past Error 83 and into the content you crave. Turning your device off for one minute and turning it back on can help fix some wonk that will trigger Error 83.
  • Widespread issue? If you're hearing of widespread outages through social media or sites like DownDetector , then you might just need to go take a walk and wait for things to get back to normal. These tend to happen around the launch of Disney+ in a new batch of countries or when a big release hits the service, like when Hamilton launched on July 3, but events on ESPN+ can take out Disney+, too, since they use the same platform, so if you're having issues on a UFC Fight Night, chances are ESPN+ died and took D+ with it.
  • On an iPhone? There has been some limited success turning off Wi-Fi and streaming over LTE instead at times, but that's not really helpful unless you have an Unlimited data plan.

Click Allow

  • First time watching on a laptop? The first time you try to watch in a browser, you'll usually get a prompt asking to let Disney+ check the eligibility of your device for playback. By the time you click "Allow" and let the DRM check go through, it's usually timed out and will spit out Error 83. When this happens, click "Dismiss" and then try to watch any video again. It should go through the second time — and every time after.
  • Getting Error 83 for days and days? Perpetual Error 83 messages could be a sign of your IP being blocked by Disney+ for whatever reason. You can contact Disney+ support to see if you can get it unblocked or contact your ISP and ask to be assigned a new IP, but there's no real easy surefire answer for this problem.

If you live in an area with congested internet that's more prone to regional server overloads, you may want to keep a few favorite shows and films downloaded on your phone through the Disney+ Android or iOS apps. Then you can still watch some Disney+ when the servers aren't playing nice.

Reason 2 — Incompatible platform

This error is a curse!

Error 83 is seen on a variety of laptop and desktop computers that can't pass the DRM check that Disney+ requires before it begins playing videos. These days, it's more likely that the DRM failure is a server-side timeout rather than a device-related one, as we saw more during the early days of Disney+, but there are a few things that can cause DRM failures on your side rather than Disney's:

  • Linux support can still be flaky. Disney+ wasn't supported on Linux at launch due to how stringent the DRM restrictions were, but things seem to be working on at least some distributions, specifically Ubuntu. You might need to double-check which browser you're trying to use, too.
  • Disney+ only lists support for a couple of the more popular desktop browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Explorer, and Apple Safari. If you're not using one of these, try Chrome instead.
  • Browsers on entertainment consoles and Smart TVs aren't supported. If a Disney+ app isn't available for your console or TV, try Chromecast or AirPlay instead to get it on your TV.

Unfortunately, for this incompatibility, you'll likely have to switch to a different device in order to get around it. This isn't a satisfying workaround, but it's all we got, but please, go leave feedback with Disney+ so that they have more incentive to fix things.

Disney+ Logo

Get all the magical content you want — when the servers are working. Disney+ finally brings together all our favorite shows and films from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Fox, and of course Disney in one easy-to-use service. Disney+ goes down less often than most streaming services, but it still happens from time to time.

How to fix Disney Plus Error Code 83 and related errors on your streaming device, phone, or computer

  • Disney Plus Error Code 83 means the app thinks you're using an "incompatible" device.
  • Restarting both your device and Disney Plus can be an easy fix for the error code.
  • You should also check that your device is updated and that you're using the correct method to watch.

Insider Today

There are few things more frustrating than a confusing error code. Every company uses a different naming system for them, it's never clear what the error means, and they seem to pop up at the worst times.

On Disney Plus, one of the most common error codes is "Error Code 83." This one signals that Disney Plus thinks you're using an "incompatible" device — in other words, it thinks you're trying to watch on a device that can't actually run the app.

This is probably meant to be an anti-piracy measure, but glitches mean that you can run into it even on the right devices. Luckily, assuming you are using a compatible device , there are a few quick ways to fix Error Code 83. Here's what you should do.

Check your internet connection

Like most streaming apps, you need a strong internet connection to watch Disney Plus smoothly. And unfortunately, a spotty internet connection can trick Disney Plus into thinking that there's an issue with your device, which will trigger Error Code 83.

If you're using a wireless internet connection, try to strengthen the signal by resetting your router, moving the router closer to your streaming device, turning off other internet-connected devices, or simply connecting to a new signal.

If you're using a computer, game console, or compatible streaming device, you can also connect to an ethernet cable instead .

Restart Disney Plus and your device

You've heard the old adage: "Turn it off and back on again." This is still one of the best troubleshooting tips you can find.

First, shut down Disney Plus. Here's how:

  • On a game console or streaming device, just close the app.
  • On a phone, swipe up from the very bottom of the screen to open the list of running apps, then swipe Disney Plus off the screen.
  • On a computer, exit your web browser.

Then, open Disney Plus again and try watching something.

If that doesn't work, you should turn your device off and back on again.

Following that, if you're using your phone, game console, or streaming device, uninstall Disney Plus and re-download it.

Update your device and the app

Disney Plus has been around for a few years now and runs on all sorts of devices. If you haven't updated your device in a while, Disney Plus might not support it anymore.

You can update your device through the Settings menu. If the device you're using is so old that you can't install updates, you should consider buying a new one.

You'll also want to make sure that the Disney Plus app itself is updated. Here's how:

  • On a game console or streaming device, highlight the Disney Plus app on your home screen and press the options button on your remote.
  • On a phone, head to the iPhone's App Store or the Android Play Store.
  • On a computer, there's no Disney Plus app, but you can update your web browser by clicking the three dots or lines in the top-right corner. You might need to open the browser's Settings menu, too.

Make sure you're watching with the right method

Disney Plus supports a variety of different devices. But each of these devices has a specific way to watch Disney Plus.

For example, if you're using your iPhone or Android, make sure that you're using the official Disney Plus app. Trying to watch through a web browser won't work.

On a computer, third-party Disney Plus apps are unreliable. Instead, use a web browser to go straight to the Disney Plus website .

Disney Plus related errors

There are other error codes that can appear on Disney Plus that you might come across. Those include:

  • Error code 42 : This is usually caused by an unstable or weak internet connection.
  • Error code 73: This is typically due to using a VPN while streaming.
  • Error codes 91 and 92: These are often caused by repeated failed logins or payment updates.
  • Error code 142: Another weak or slow internet error.

How to Fix the Disney Plus Error Code 83

Calling Disney a franchise takes away some of the cultivated magic, but that’s what it is. The Disney franchise has done wonders in giving its target users Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) for decades. For Disney Plus subscribers, Error Code 83 turns that fear into a real-world scenario.

In this post, we look at what Disney Plus Error Code 83 is and try to help you fix it. First, let’s talk more about the error itself.

What the Disney Plus Error Code 83 Is

Like many apps, not everything runs smoothly, and sometimes you’ll encounter errors. If an app is well-designed, you’ll be given a description of some sort along with a code. This helps technical teams diagnose the issue and give you a fix.

The Disney Plus Error Code 83.

Disney Plus Error Code 83 consists of the following message:

Something went wrong. Please try again. If the problem persists, visit the Disney+ Help Center (Error Code 83).

The bad news is that this isn’t the most helpful message. To find out why this occurs, you need to do some digging. We’ve done the necessary digging for you, as we explain next.

Also read: What to Expect When You Sign Up for Disney+

Why It Exists

The error is frustrating for two reasons. First, you have an issue that stops you from watching Disney Plus. Second, the message isn’t descriptive enough to help you resolve the issue.

Even so, the official Disney Plus help page offers some advice on what the root cause is. It can be boiled down to one of three causes:

  • Connectivity issue
  • Device compatibility problems
  • Issues with your account

Given this, you have three places to start rooting out a solution to Disney Plus Error Code 83. Let’s figure out a fix next.

How to Fix Disney Plus Error Code 83

As we noted, there are three areas you’ll need to investigate. The first step is to determine whether you’re using a compatible device. Disney Plus has a list of approved devices , and your job here is to check whether yours is on it.

On the whole, if you’re trying to watch on an Apple device running iOS 12 or later or an Android device running OS 5.0 (Lollipop) or later, you’re good to go. For TVs, models made after 2016 are often good enough (although you’ll need to check your specific model).

While most modern Internet browsers are supported, note that Linux isn’t supported. What’s more, browsers running on devices such as Smart TVs, games consoles, and more aren’t supported either. In short, use an official app for your device, and you should be good.

A simpler explanation could be that there’s a connection issue that needs to resolve itself. You can carry out some diagnostics on your end, such as checking your Internet speed for issues. A tool such as Speedtest will give you all the clues you need about whether the problem lies on your end.

The Speedtest.net website.

If your Internet is fine, Disney Plus could be at fault. A site such as Down Detector can help you see if others have had issues too.

The Down Detector page for Disney Plus.

If you’re still not having luck, you can try some other steps to get back up and running:

  • Delete, reinstall, and/or update the Disney Plus app.
  • Power down and restart your device.
  • Upgrade the firmware on your device.

At this point, you may need to contact the support team if you’re still experiencing issues. After ruling everything else out, the common problem will be account-based. As such, Disney’s support will be able to talk you through a resolution.

In Conclusion

Disney’s business model is one involving a lot of FOMO for the customer. Though, with Disney Plus Error Code 83, this isn’t a deliberate attempt to cultivate FOMO. However, there’s a compatibility issue you need to solve. The advice throughout this article will hopefully help you resolve it.

How to Fix Disney Plus Error Code 83

One of these steps will do the trick

Author avatar

Many streaming services throw off error codes when things aren’t working as they should. For instance, Netflix will display the error code NW-2-5 when a connectivity-related issue prevents your device from communicating with the Netflix servers. Disney Plus also displays error codes , all of which have different causative factors.

You’ll get the “Error Code 83” on screen if your device is unable to connect with Disney Plus’ servers. This could be due to varying factors ranging from server downtime, poor internet connection, device compatibility issues, etc. Let’s walk you through some possible solutions to the problem.

How to Fix Disney Plus Error Code 83 image

1. Check Disney Plus Server Status

You might be unable to access Disney Plus if the streaming service is experiencing an outage. So before troubleshooting your browser and devices to resolve the Disney Plus “Error Code 83”, make sure Disney Plus isn’t experiencing server-side downtime.

Check Disney Plus’ service status using tools offering real-time website monitoring services— DownDetector and IsItDownRightNow are reliable. However, if these platforms indicate problems with the streaming service’s servers, you’d have to wait until Disney Plus fixes the issues. In the meantime, we recommend contacting Disney Plus Help Center to report the server downtime.

If these platforms report that Disney Plus’ servers are working correctly, close the Disney Plus tab on your browser, and revisit the streaming service’s website. If you’re still getting the “Error Code 83,” visit Disney Plus on another browser.

2. Check Browser Compatibility/Try a Different Browser

If your preferred web browser doesn’t load Disney Plus, visit the streaming service on another browser. You also need to confirm that your browser(s) meets the system requirements to access Disney Plus.

Just so you know, Disney Plus doesn’t support browsers on game consoles, smart TVs, and devices running Linux and Chrome OS (i.e., Chromebooks). Also, if you’re using a PC or laptop, make sure you have a compatible browser.

Check Browser Compatibility/Try a Different Browser image

Disney Plus supports Google Chrome (version 75 or newer), Mozilla Firefox (version 68 or newer), and Internet Explorer 11 on Windows and macOS devices. Microsoft Edge is also compatible with Disney Plus, but only on Windows 10 devices. Visit the Disney Plus Help Center to learn more about the service’s system requirements. Update your browser and device to the most recent version and access Disney Plus again.

3. Check Internet Connection

Not only will a slow connection cause video to skip and buffer, but it can also trigger the Disney Plus error code 83. For the best and error-free streaming experience, Disney Plus recommends a minimum internet speed of 5.0 Mbps for HD content and 25.0 Mbps for 4K content.

Check Internet Connection image

Use web-based tools like Fast.com or Speedtest.net to test your internet speed. If test results show that your internet speed falls below the recommendations, move your device closer to the router and try again. Disconnecting unused and unrecognized devices from the network can also boost internet speed. If your connection remains unchanged, reboot your router, turn off your VPN app, or contact your internet provider.

For wired connections, refer to this troubleshooting guide on fixing slow Ethernet to get the speed you need. We also recommend reading this article on fixing intermittent internet speed to learn more about optimizing your connection for glitch-free streaming.

4. Clear Disney Plus Site Data

When you visit webpages, your browser saves some elements of the page in its cache memory. While this information helps to improve websites’ performance and load speed, they sometimes cause issues.

6. Clear Disney Plus’ App Data

Corrupt cache data can result in connectivity issues on Android devices. If you’re getting the “Error Code 83” alert on the Disney+ app for Android, clearing the app’s cache data could resolve the problem.

If you’re faced with Error Code 83 when streaming Disney movies on a FireStick, here are possible fixes:

Check Whether Disney Plus Is Down

Before trying anything complex, it may be wise to check whether the Disney Plus service is down.

Sometimes there are large-scale Disney Plus outages that come about due to server overload. Although downtimes usually last a few minutes, they can trick you into thinking there’s a problem with your local Disney setup.

A good place to start would be a service-monitoring website like Downdetector or ServicesDown .

Alternatively, you could visit Disney Plus’s social media handles and check whether they report any outages.

Check Your Internet Connection

That you need a stable internet connection to stream Disney Plus goes without saying. If you’re not getting enough bandwidth, probably due to heavy traffic on your ISP server, you may get errors as soon as you attempt to establish a connection with Disney Plus servers.

You could also try restarting your router or modem to reset the connection.

Update Your FireStick and the Disney Plus App

Error code 83 can also be caused by an outdated streaming device or app.

To update your FireStick software version:

To update the Disney Plus app on your FireStick:

  • Click on “Update.”

Reinstall the Disney Plus App

If there’s a problem with your Disney Plus app, an update may not resolve the problem. But reinstalling the app can do the trick.

To do so, follow these steps:

  • After uninstalling the app, search for the app on the Appstore and reinstall it.

How to Fix Error Code 83 Watching Disney Plus on a Roku Device

A Roku device is one of the best tools to stream Disney Plus. However, you may still get Error Code 83 when you try to access any content on the platform. But don’t fret.

Here are a couple of troubleshooting options you might want to try:

Restart Your Device

Like many modern devices, your Roku relies on a well-choreographed startup sequence to be able to launch all the installed apps. If everything doesn’t go according to plan, you could encounter errors when loading your apps, including Disney Plus.

As such, a simple restart can get you back on track.

Update the Disney Plus App

An outdated Disney Plus app may not have all the features needed to open and play content on the platform. If you’ve not updated your app recently, a quick update can be the answer to Error code 83.

Check Device Compatibility

Although most Roku models are compatible with Disney Plus, a few aren’t. Sometimes you may even download the app but fail at the installation stage. Non-supported Roku devices include 2400X, 2450X, 2500X, 3000X, 3050X, 3100X, 3400X, and 3420X.

If you own any of the listed Roku models above, you should upgrade to a supported model to stream Disney Plus without problems.

Delete and Reinstall the Disney Plus App

The Disney Plus app is known to malfunction if the installation process doesn’t proceed smoothly. If this happens, you may find yourself unable to authenticate or download any of the content on your Disney Plus account.

Thus, reinstalling the Disney Plus app can get you back on track.

How to Fix Error Code 83 Watching Disney Plus on an Apple TV

Error Code 83 while trying to stream Disney Plus on your Apple TV can be frustrating, but it shouldn’t be the end of the road.

Here are some possible solutions, any of which can help restore the service:

As with any other device, you need a stable internet connection to stream Disney Plus on your TV. If your connection isn’t fast enough, your streaming experience may be compromised.

You can find out if your connection is fast enough by checking out the Disney Plus Internet speed Requirements . You can then run a simple speed test on your Apple TV and establish whether you need to find a faster internet service or not.

Restarting the Apple TV is an old trick that helps resolve many streaming problems among Disney Plus users. Alternatively, you could switch off your TV for a minute or two and then switch it back on.

Although your Disney Plus app should be able to work even if it’s not running the latest updates, this isn’t always the case. The platform occasionally launches major updates that can disrupt your streaming experience.

To be on the safe side, always make sure you’re running the most up-to-date version of the app.

To stream Disney Plus, your Apple TV has to be fourth generation or later. If you’ve got an older model, you will need to upgrade to a supported model to enjoy your favorite Disney Plus content.

How to Fix Error Code 83 Watching Disney Plus in Google Chrome

One of the best things about Disney Plus is that most modern browsers, including Chrome, support it. If your device can accommodate Chrome, you don’t need to install the Disney Plus app. You can sign into the web version of the platform and access your account without any restrictions.

However, Error Code 83 can also occur on Chrome. If this happens, the following troubleshooting methods can resolve the problem:

Check Your Web Browser

You can’t stream Disney Plus on Chrome OS 78 or earlier. If you’re running an earlier version, you need to update to the latest version to enjoy Disney Plus on your device.

Upgrade Your Device Firmware or OS

Even if your Chrome browser is up to date, Error Code 83 might come about if your device firmware or OS aren’t upgraded to the latest available versions. Disney Plus takes the safety and security of your data very seriously, and if your device is deemed insecure or compromised, you may be locked out of your account.

Try a Different Account

If none of the troubleshooting methods we’ve looked at work for you, there’s a good chance the error has got something to do with your account.

If your subscription status and billing details are okay, but you still can’t access Disney Plus, you might want to try signing in with a different account. If Disney Plus works in the new account, that confirms an issue with your account.

In this situation, the Disney Plus support team can help restore the service.

Clear Cached Data

Error Code 83 can also come about if the Disney Plus site data cached on your streaming device is corrupted. Clearing your cache can get you back on track.

Here’s how to go about it:

How to Fix Disney+ Error Code 83

This error code can stop you watching your favorite Disney+ shows. We show you how to fix it.

There's nothing worse than sitting down to watch a movie or TV show on Disney+ and seeing an error code.

If you see error code 83 on Disney+, you're not alone. It can be caused by your device, network, or something entirely out of your control. We'll walk you through exactly how to fix Disney+ error code 83 and get you on your way to binging your favorite show.

What Is Error Code 83 in Disney+?

Error code 83 is extremely frustrating to see because it's vague. The error code reads:

Something went wrong. Please try again. If the problem persists, visit the Disney+ Help Center (Error Code 83).

Not very helpful, right?

Error code 83 indicates that there has been some sort of error streaming to the device you're trying to use. This could be because of internet connection issues, an incompatible device, or an issue with your Disney+ account .

Whatever the source of the problem, here are a few ways to correct the error so you can keep streaming your favorite Disney+ content.

There are different reasons you could be seeing error code 83 on Disney+. First, make sure you're using a compatible device because that's the biggest culprit for this code. Then, if it looks like your device is compatible, move on to troubleshooting internet connectivity issues.

1. Check Device Compatibility

Disney+ has a big list of all the devices and browsers it's compatible with. If Disney+ has worked on your device before, you probably don't need to check the list. But if this is your first time using the service and it's not working, it's worth double-checking the Disney+ compatibility list .

Sometimes the app will still download or let you purchase a subscription even if your device is not compatible. Unfortunately, there's no longer a seven-day free trial for Disney+ , so it's extra important to check device compatibility before shelling out cash for the service.

2. Force Close Disney+

If your device is compatible, but you're still seeing error code 83, close the app and restart it. If this doesn't work, try to force close the app.

The method to force close the app will depend on your device. On a phone, you can usually open the app switcher and swipe the Disney+ app up to remove it. Or, you can go to Settings > Apps > Disney+ and tap Force stop or Force close at the bottom of the screen.

Additionally, you can also try clearing the cache of the Disney+ mobile app. Follow the same initial steps of going to Settings > Apps > Disney+ , and then tap Storage . From there, tap the Clear cache option at the bottom of your screen.

3. Reinstall Disney+

If this still doesn't fix the issue, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. You can also try restarting your device. It seems like such a cliché IT thing to say, but there's a reason why restarting your device fixes most problems .

4. Check Whether Disney+ Is Down

It could be that Disney+ is just getting slammed with too many people trying to watch at once. You can check this on a service like Downdetector , where people report issues to see if it's widespread. If this is the case and Disney+ is just down, you'll have to wait until Disney fixes the issue.

5. Check Your Internet Connection

Your internet could be causing the error code 83 issue as well. It's worth checking and even restarting your router to make sure there are no issues there. See our guide on how to fix slow or unstable Wi-Fi connections if you want some extra tips.

If you're using mobile data or a Wi-Fi hotspot to stream content from Disney+, you might encounter this error as well. Disney+ seems to favor a strong Wi-Fi connection, so switch from cellular data if possible. And if all else fails and you continuously run into errors, you always have the option of canceling your Disney+ subscription .

Enjoy Disney+ With Others Remotely

Disney+ should now be up and running with no error code in sight. Now it's time to enjoy all the great content that Disney+ offers, old and new.

There are multiple ways to watch Disney+ content with your friends and family, either in person or from a distance. GroupWatch lets you host Disney+ watch parties and keeps everything in sync.

What does “Error code 83: ‘Something went wrong. Please try again…'” on Disney+ mean?

This is usually a device compatibility issue or connection error. Possible causes include, but are not limited to:

  • Example: playing a video on your device’s web browser instead of the Disney+ app
  • Unstable or slow internet connection

Basically, it means Disney+ thinks you’re trying to watch on a device that can’t actually run the app.

How To Fix “Error code 83: ‘Something went wrong. Please try again…'” on Disney+?

To fix this problem, check the following:

  • Close down the Disney+ app fully and relaunch the Disney+ app or refresh the Disney+ site and try playing the video again in a few minutes.

Disney Plus Error Code 83

Encountering Disney Plus error code 83 can be a frustrating experience, especially if you were watching your favorite Disney Original. However, like most other streaming errors, you can easily troubleshoot this problem and come to a solution. Some fixes are easy to overlook, so remember to try them before moving on to harder troubleshooting methods. With that said, here’s what you must understand about Disney Plus error code 83.

For more on Disney plus, here is our how to change language on Disney Plus guide!

What Is Disney Plus Error Code 83?

When you first see error code 83 on Disney Plus, you might want to panic immediately. However, understanding the root cause of this error code is key to resolving the issue. With that said, what is error code 83 on Disney Plus?

Generally speaking, Disney Plus error code 83 simply signifies that there’s a compatibility issue between the app and your device. It could also mean there’s a compatibility problem with your browser.

Regardless, it signifies that the problems stem from the communication between the service and your streaming medium. However, just because this signifies a compatibility issue, doesn’t mean Disney+ cannot work on your device at all. After all, if that were the case, you wouldn’t have been able to download the app in the first place.

Fortunately, there are a few uncomplicated measures you can take to help resolve the DisneyPlus error. It’ll only require a bit of patience and some time. Before you know it, you’ll be back in the business watching all your favorite movies and TV shows.

How To Fix Disney Plus Error Code 83

1. Check If Disney Plus Is Down

The Disney Plus error code 83 can sometimes appear because of server issues on Disney’s end instead of yours. Hence, despite being a compatibility issue, sometimes you’ll find this error code when Disney Plus is down.

Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to know whether the service itself is the source of the problem. Simply type, “is Disney Plus down” on Twitter or Google and you should find several answers. You can also check the Downdetector website by typing “Disney Plus” in the search bar there. It should showcase whether there have been detected outages from Disney Plus.

Finally, you can also check Disney Plus’ Twitter or Instagram for updates. The service will likely report any outages on its social media pages and when the servers are back online. Hence, the most you can do now is to wait for an update. Perhaps you can stream on another platform like Netflix or Hulu in the meantime.

2. Verify Your Device Compatibility

Whether you find the Disney Plus error code 83 on a laptop, smartphone, or smart TV, you must consider compatibility. That’s because the app is only compatible with certain operating systems, versions, and hardware.

Furthermore, Disney Plus error code 83 is specifically a compatibility issue. Therefore, it shouldn’t hurt to check whether you’re on supported hardware.

Overall, it should operate smoothly if you’re on a modern iOS or Android device. However, you should be at least on Android mobile 5+ to view its content. Meanwhile, iOS users must have iOS 11.0 or later and iPad v10 or newer.

As for computers, Disney Plus is compatible with most major browsers. However, it isn’t compatible with smaller browsers like Opera and it has certain version and OS requirements:

  • Google Chrome version 75+ (Windows 7/macOS 10.10 Yosemite or later)
  • Firefox version 75+ (Windows 7/macOS 10.9 Mavericks or later)
  • Microsoft Edge version 79+ (Windows 10 or later)
  • Safari  version 11+ (macOS 10.12 Sierra or later)

Meanwhile, streaming devices and smart TVs will also have compatibility requirements. These include the following:

  • Android TV OS 7.0 or later on Google-certified televisions
  • Note: only available on compatible iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and Chrome browsers
  • Note: this requires Apple AirPlay 2-compatible TVs
  • LG TVs with webOS 4.0 or later (unavailable on TV M3 or LG’s browsers)
  • Samsung TV 2018 models or later using Tizen (unavailable on Samsung’s browsers)

Generally speaking, it’s also compatible with Roku, Vizio SmartCast TV, Chromebooks, and Amazon Fire tablets. Disney Plus also supports consoles like the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox. However, it isn’t compatible with the Nintendo Switch.

3. Verify Your Network Connection’s Stability

When you encounter the Disney Plus error code 83 on Sony TVs, mobile phones, or computers, it’s always good to check the network. That’s because, despite this error code denoting compatibility problems, sometimes it can spring up from network errors.

As a result, we suggest verifying that you have a steady and effective connection. To accomplish this, disconnect and reconnect your device to WiFi or LAN. You may also use the internet on other apps, browsers, or devices to verify your network’s reliability.

Moreover, we recommend using another streaming app like Netflix, YouTube, or Hulu to see whether the network can handle streaming. If it can, then the network may not be the issue. However, if other apps won’t work, then you may need to verify that you have a stable connection.

The problem may also stem from a substandard network speed. That’s because Disney Plus requires at least 5-8 Mbps in download speed to function properly. You may verify your connection speed via this website . If the speed isn’t enough, it may be time to upgrade.

4. Reboot Your Router

Let’s say your device is connected to the network and it’s speedy enough to handle streaming. How do I fix error code 83 on Disney Plus then? In such scenarios, we recommend trying to restart the router.

This should allow the internet to reset its settings and let your devices connect properly to the network. Fortunately, the steps are easy as you only have to disconnect and reconnect the power cable on the router. After waiting a minute, reconnect the plug and see whether the network connection is better.

You can also take extra steps by disconnecting other devices from the internet that may be hogging your bandwidth. This ensures that your main streaming device will get the best speeds your plan and ISP can provide. Moreover, we suggest closing other apps in the background that may be running and using the WiFi.

5. Restart Your Device

You may be surprised, but you can easily fix most errors by simply restarting your device. This applies whether the Disney Plus error code 83 is on a Firestick, smart TV, Android device, or laptop. That’s because rebooting refreshes your hardware and software and allows it to reload the RAM. Luckily, the steps are quite simple regardless of your device.

  • Hit the “Power” icon
  • Click “Restart”
  • Hit the Apple icon on the menu bar
  • Select “Restart”
  • Hold the power switch

  • Note: it’s not necessary to hold the volume down switch on older models
  • Swipe on the slider that emerges
  • Wait half a minute
  • Hold the lock button to restart
  • Long-press on the remote’s “Select” and “Pause” switches for five counts
  • Select “Reset” on the TV
  • Press the remote’s “Select” switch

6. Clear Your Cache

If you want to learn how to fix error code 83 on Disney Plus, it’s crucial to clear your cache. That’s because cache data can interfere with certain processes and functions. While cache data may be beneficial for quick loading and efficiency, it sometimes hinders your experience.

  • Hit “System Software Update and Settings”
  • Note: this will only appear if an update is available

11. Check For Hotspot Connectivity Problems

Despite the Disney Plus error code 83 being related to compatibility, sometimes it can also stem from hotspot connectivity issues. That’s because streaming services generally don’t function as well on a hotspot or mobile data.

With that said, we recommend doing a few things if you insist on watching using a hotspot. Firstly, remember to stay near the hotspot source — at least 15 feet, to be specific. Moreover, we suggest that you turn off features like power saving or data saving mode. This is because these features can interfere with the streaming quality and hinder you from streaming at all.

In addition, we recommend disconnecting and reconnecting your device to the hotspot if problems arise. This should help refresh the connection and resolve some compatibility issues.

12. Use A Different Browser Or Device

If it’s a compatibility issue, then switching your browser or device may help. You can easily do so by using Firefox instead of Chrome or using a smartphone instead of your smart TV. This should help serve as a decent workaround if you can’t fix the problem with your current browser or device.

Alternatively, if you’re using the app, try switching to a browser instead to see if that works better. The reverse may also work, as browser users may find that the app works better in their current situation.

13. Log Out Of The App And Sign In Again

Sometimes, account issues are the main cause of why Disney Plus error code 83 appears. Fortunately, you may be able to easily resolve the problem by logging out of your account. Afterward, sign in once more and try to stream your favorite film or series.

14. Use Another Account

Disney has explained that error code 83 may not just be a compatibility issue, but also a problem regarding accounts. Thus, we suggest trying to use a different account to stream your favorite shows or films.

If this resolves the issue, you’ll know that there’s an account-related problem that’s causing the bug. With that said, we advise you to verify your subscription status and billing information to ensure that everything’s alright. You can also contact Disney Plus’ support team by dialing 888-905-7888 in the US.

What Are The Reasons For Disney Plus Error Code 83?

Why do I keep getting error code 83 on Disney Plus? For the most part, this usually happens because of three things: device compatibility, Disney servers, or internet connection.

The cause most commonly has to do with the first: device compatibility. Put simply, it’s related to the hardware. Disney Plus may not be communicating well with it because of some underlying issue.

However, sometimes the cause does come in the form of network connection problems. For example, your internet might be choppy, unstable, or doesn’t provide a fast enough connection. Your ISP may also be having problems due to high traffic or your router has poor bandwidth distribution.

Finally, while rarely the case, sometimes the cause comes from Disney’s servers. They may be down, undergoing maintenance, or experiencing a sudden glitch in the system. Regardless, these issues are something you cannot resolve yourself. Thus, you’ll have to wait for action on Disney’s end for it to resolve.

How To Prevent Disney Plus Error Code 83

You may have typed what is error code 83 on Disney Plus on Reddit or Google and have come up with the answer just now. However, even if you fix the problem now, you must employ preventive measures to stop it from recurring.

Luckily, there are several things you may do to prevent Disney Plus error code 83 from popping up. Firstly, it’s important to always keep your app and OS updated. This should ensure that no compatibility issues arise from outdated software.

Moreover, remember to stream the service on compatible devices. That’s because older Android or iOS phones cannot handle Disney Plus’ requirements. The same goes for older TVs, consoles, or streaming devices.

Finally, we suggest ensuring that your network connection doesn’t pose any problems. Make sure your WiFi is connected, has ample speed, and the router provides and distributes bandwidth properly.

If you follow these prevention measures, you’ll likely have fewer headaches related to errors like these. Moreover, if the error pops up again, you’ll know that none of these are the source of your problem.

The Bottom Line

Disney Plus error code 83 can truly spoil your experience if you’re watching your favorite shows or movies. With that said, however, the error code shouldn’t be too large an issue. You can easily resolve it with quick fixes. Once it’s settled, we also recommend following a few prevention measures to make sure the problem doesn’t repeat.

Being a sign of compatibility issues, you might have hard time getting rid of it. Fortunately, there are a few things you can try to solve this problem.

What Is Error Code 83?

This code appears when your device isn’t compatible with Disney Plus. But if you’ve managed to install the app in the first place, it might be that something went wrong with the app itself.

Commonly encountered on mobile devices, you can try one of the following methods as explained in the sections below.

Disney Plus

Restart Your Device

The most obvious thing to do is to restart your device. This simple action can do wonders for your device, in general. A restart clears up the overloaded memory and closes any apps that are currently misbehaving.

Check Compatibility

It may be that your device isn’t actually compatible with the Disney Plus app. To make sure, it’s best to consult the compatibility list found on Disney Plus support pages. Some of the common devices that work with this service include the following:

  • Desktop web browsers. Common ones include Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Edge, as well as Opera and Mozilla Firefox.
  • Mobile devices running Android (5.0 and higher) and iOS (6.0 and higher).
  • Android TVs.
  • Chromecast and devices that run it.
  • Amazon Fire TV devices and related smart TVs.
  • Smart TVs from Sony, LG, Samsung, and Vizio.
  • PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
  • Roku players and Roku TV

If it turns out that your mobile device is compatible, then perhaps you need to update your Android or iOS operating system. If you’re trying to watch Disney Plus on your TV or a gaming console, check for related software and firmware updates. This also applies to other streaming devices as well.

Connect to a Wi-Fi

Some users reported that they had problems with code 83 while using their mobile data plan to access Disney Plus. If this applies to you as well, consider switching to your home Wi-Fi, or any other network you can find in your location. Hopefully, this will resolve the Error Code 83.

Disney Plus Error Code 83

Change Your Location

If you’re trying to access Disney Plus while on a trip to a different country, chances are you won’t be able to connect. Reason being: Disney limits use if you’re out of your home country due to licensing reasons.

If you desperately need to watch the latest episode of your favorite show, then you might consider installing a VPN app on your device. This will allow you to virtually change your location to your home country and let you use Disney Plus again.

Reinstall Disney Plus

If none of this helped, and you’re sure your device is compatible with Disney Plus, then you should reinstall the app. For mobile devices, you can find it on Google Play and Apple App Store . For any other device, it’s best to consult their manufacturer’s website to get the latest version of Disney Plus.

Use Another Device

If you’re still having problems with Error Code 83, try using another device to access Disney Plus. Although this won’t solve the issue you’re having with your device, at least you’ll manage to stream whatever movie or TV show you wanted to watch.

Error Solved?

Hopefully, one of our suggestions helped you to get back on track with Disney Plus. If not, then it would be best to contact Disney Plus tech support directly and ask for advice.

Have you managed to solve the Error Code 83? If so, which of the solutions worked for you? Of course, feel welcome to share your Disney Plus experiences in the comments section below.

Error Code 83 on Disney Plus usually signals a device compatibility issue or a problem with the user’s connection that prevents the service from functioning correctly. It’s a common hiccup that users encounter, often indicating that the device, operating system, or the app version they’re using isn’t playing well with Disney Plus.

Common Error Codes

Other than Error Code 83, Disney Plus users might encounter several error codes. For instance:

  • Error code 42: This suggests there’s trouble with the service’s connection.
  • Error codes 91 and 92: Usually these are generalized codes for unknown issues.
  • Error code 142: Similar to 83, this could also be an anti-piracy measure or a DRM-related issue.

These codes are Disney Plus’s way of informing users that something isn’t working right. Often, they relate to connectivity or account verification problems.

Device Compatibility Issues

Error Code 83 is commonly due to incompatible devices or outdated software. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Smart TVs and browsers: Disney Plus must be on the supported devices list. If using a browser, whether it’s Chrome, Firefox, or Edge, make sure it’s updated to the latest version.
  • Linux systems: Particular attention is needed as there might be compatibility issues with the Disney Plus service.
  • DRM issues: Sometimes, software that’s meant to protect against piracy can trip up legitimate devices. This could be why your device is tagged as an ‘incompatible device’.

In essence, keeping your devices and apps up-to-date is crucial for the smooth operation of Disney Plus and to avoid running into Error Code 83.

What is Error 83 on Disney Plus?

If you see the Disney Plus error code 83 when you try to sign onto the service, it could mean one of two things is wrong. One is an internet issue, and the other relates to hardware problems.

Error 83 problem 1: Internet connection issue

disney plus down

If you see this message error, it could mean that there is some kind of internet connection problem:

  • Disney Plus itself may be getting hammered with too many signups at once. This happened during the November 2019 launch date for the service . If that’s indeed the case, there’s not a lot you can do about it until its servers can handle the signup load once again. You can check the Down Detector site to see if others are encountering the same issues.
  • If you feel the issue is not due to too much internet traffic, your local internet provider may have its own issues. In that case, you might want to contact your ISP to see if their servers and routers are having problems connecting to Disney Plus.

Error 83 problem 2: Device compatibility issue

The second reason you might see the Disney Plus error code 83 is due to some issue with the device you are using to sign up for the service. If that’s the case, there are a few simple things you can do that might solve it. The most important one is to make sure your device is indeed compatible with Disney Plus. You can go to our hub page for the service to see the list of compatible devices.

If your device is indeed compatible, but you see the Error 83 message, there are a few other things you can do:

  • First, you can also try the oldest workaround in the tech world; turn your device off and turn it back on again.
  • If you are using a mobile device, set-top box, or smart TV, make sure the Disney Plus app is up to date with the latest version. You can also delete the app and reinstall it to see if that works.
  • It’s also possible that updating your device’s firmware could solve your issue.
  • Disney Plus officially only supports PC web browsers for Windows and Mac, including Chrome, Microsoft Explorer and Edge, Firefox, and Apple Safari. If you have a smart TV or set-top box and try to use a web browser on those devices, you will likely get an Error 83 message. You will need to find a compatible Disney Plus app for those devices if they are available.
  • Linux PCs, when signing onto Disney Plus on a browser, didn’t work at launch due to DRM issues. It’s still not officially supported, but many Linux users with a web browser can now sign onto Disney Plus. However, this is not guaranteed, so if you see an Error 83 message while using a Linux PC, keep that in mind.
  • If you log into Disney Plus on a PC desktop or laptop, you could encounter the Error 83 message when you first sign up via a web browser. You might get a message asking you to verify that the PC can playback protected content. If you click the “Allow” option, the Error 83 message might appear. If that does happen, click on the “Dismiss” option and try again to watch a Disney Plus video. The browser should allow you to play the video.

  • Android devices
  • Samsung Smart TV

Before attempting to stream Disney Plus, it is essential to confirm whether your chosen device is compatible. Error Code 83 typically appears on devices that fail the Digital Rights Management (DRM) check.

It is crucial to verify if your device successfully passes this DRM check before playing any video content. Failure to pass this check can result in the occurrence of Error Code 83.

Resolving Disney Plus Error Code 83 on Firestick

If you’re encountering Disney Plus Error Code 83 on your Firestick or Fire TV in the USA, the following fixes are worth trying:

Resolving Disney Plus Error Code 83 on Chromecast Device

  • Outdated operating systems on your Chromecast device can trigger Error Code 83. Make sure you are using the latest OS version available for your device.
  • Clear the cache and cookies of the Disney Plus app on your Chromecast device. This can help eliminate any stored data that may be causing conflicts.
  • Verify that your internet connection provides sufficient bandwidth for streaming Disney Plus content. A stable and high-speed connection is essential for uninterrupted streaming.

Disney Plus error code 83 – how to fix the problem

Photo of Simon Lüthje

It’s one of those evenings. You’ve had a long day, work was exhausting, and all you’re looking forward to is a relaxing evening with your favorite show on Disney Plus. You’ve slipped into your comfiest sweatpants, have the snacks handy, and are making yourself comfortable on the couch. But then it happens – instead of the expected start of the series, Disney Plus error code 83 appears on your screen. A real mood killer, right? But don’t worry, there are some ways to solve this problem.

What does the Disney Plus error code 83 mean?

Disney Plus error code 83 is more than just a random combination of numbers and letters. It is an error message that occurs when there is a problem connecting to the Disney Plus server. This can occur due to internet problems, server congestion, or device compatibility issues. It’s a common problem that many Disney Plus users experience, and it can be especially frustrating when you’re looking forward to a cozy evening of streaming.

7 ways to fix Disney Plus error code 83

Before we get into the details of each option, it’s important to stress that this guide applies to a variety of devices and platforms. Whether you’re seeing Disney Plus error code 83 on your Fire TV Stick, the Disney Plus app isn’t loading on your smartphone, or you’re having trouble with Disney Plus on your tablet, the following options should help you fix the problem and get access to all your favorite Disney content again. So, let’s waste no time and get started right away.

1. Check your internet connection

The first thing to do is to take a close look at your Internet connection. After all, the infamous error code 83 can pop up if your device or the Disney Plus app can’t access the World Wide Web. A good indicator for this is whether other Internet apps are running properly on your device. If that’s not the case, then it’s probably your Internet connection that’s the problem. A simple test is to go to another website or test another streaming service. If these work without any problems, you can probably rule out a faulty internet connection.

2. Restart your device

Sometimes the solution is so simple that it almost seems too good to be true. Simply restarting your device can work wonders and send Disney Plus error code 83 running for the hills. It’s effectively a little spring cleaning for your device, and can clear up a variety of minor issues. Turn off your device completely and restart it. Then check if the error code 83 is still doing its mischief. It may sound trivial, but you’d be surprised how often this simple step is the solution to the problem.

3. Try using Disney Plus on another device

If error code 83 continues to show up on your device, try running Disney Plus on a different device. This can help you figure out if the problem is with your specific device or if it’s a general issue with Disney Plus. If you see error code 83 on multiple devices, the problem could be with the Disney Plus servers.

4. Checking the compatibility of your device

If you start Disney Plus for the first time on a device and immediately get the code 83 error message, it could be that your device is not compatible with Disney Plus. Check the list of compatible devices and operating system versions on the Disney Plus Help Center website . Not all devices are compatible with Disney Plus, and you may be using a device or operating system version that is not supported.

5. Updating the app or your system

Technology is constantly evolving and sometimes your Disney Plus app or operating system may need an update to run smoothly. Check for updates to the Disney Plus app or your operating system and install them. An outdated app or system could be the reason for error code 83.

6. Clear the app cache

If you are using the app on Android or Android-based operating systems, it may help to clear the app cache. The cache is a memory area where data is temporarily stored to speed up app loading. However, sometimes data in the cache can become stale or corrupted, which can lead to issues like error code 83. You can clear the cache in your app’s settings.

7. Contact Disney Plus Customer Service

If all else fails and you are still facing Disney Plus error code 83, it is time to contact Disney Plus customer service. You can visit the Disney Plus Help Center online or call customer service directly. It could be that the problem is on their end and they can give you further instructions on how to resolve the issue.

Disney Plus error code 83: special instructions for Fire TV Stick users

As already alluded to, if you’re using Disney Plus on a Fire TV Stick or similar device and encounter error code 83, you have the same options to fix the error. Make sure your device has a stable internet connection, try updating or reinstalling the app, and contact the Disney Plus Help Center if the problem persists.

Patience is the key to solving Disney Plus error code 83

It is important to understand that Disney Plus error code 83 is not always a sign that something is wrong with your specific setup. Sometimes, it may be that the Disney Plus servers are overloaded or maintenance is being performed. In such cases, it is best to be patient and try again later. It’s also helpful to keep an eye on the Disney Plus Help Center, as updates on known issues and how to fix them are often posted there.

Disney Plus Error Code 83 – No need to panic

In summary, Disney Plus error code 83, while annoying, can be fixed in most cases with a little patience and the right steps. Whether you’re using Disney Plus on your Fire TV Stick, smartphone, or tablet, the steps above should help you resolve the issue and get access to all your favorite Disney content again. And remember, if all else fails, the Disney Plus Help Center is always here to help. Happy Streaming!

Do you see an error code 83 on Disney Plus?

Having the most popular titles from the Star Wars sage and Marvel cinematic universe, it is no surprise that Disney Plus is slowly becoming one of the popular streaming platforms on the market. On top of that, you can also enjoy your favorite Disney shows, which takes you back to the good old days.

However, you may be wondering why we mentioned ‘most popular and not ‘the best’ on-demand streaming service.

Since Disney Plus was released, the app encountered all sorts of bugs and errors, which made some subscribers frustrated. If you are reading this right now, you’re probably one of them.

Based on what we know, the error code 83 on Disney Plus usually indicates a problem with the servers. Given the number of users, Disney Plus’ servers can be overwhelmed with the volume of requests and could not respond to your device on time.

What makes this error code worse is that it appears after launching the app, making the whole platform unusable even for browsing content.

Thankfully, this issue is common on Disney Plus, and troubleshooting should be straightforward.

Today, we will show you exactly what to do to fix the error code 83 on Disney Plus.

Let’s get started!

1. Check Disney Plus Servers.

Whenever you encounter error codes on Disney Plus, the first step you should do is check the status of its servers. Since the app is an online service, it relies on its servers to deliver content to the users.

To check the status of Disney Plus, you can use third-party tools like Downdetector . It is a website that shows the current situation of applications and the previous issues they encountered.

Disney Plus Server Status

If the servers are down, we suggest that you just wait for the servers to go online again or proceed to the last method below to call the attention of Disney Plus.

On the other hand, do the rest of the methods below if Disney Plus’ servers are working properly.

2. Check If Your Device Is Supported.

One of the best things about Disney Plus is that the app supports many operating systems. However, this doesn’t mean that every device running that particular OS is compatible with the platform.

So, before availing of a premium subscription, visit their Help Center first to confirm if Disney Plus currently supports your device.

If not, consider getting a new device or accessing the platform using a web browser.

3. Check and Reset Your Internet.

Disney Plus requires a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps to watch HD movies on their platform without issues. On the other hand, 25 Mbps is needed for streaming 4K UHD contents. If you encounter the error code 83 on Disney Plus, your network may be running slow.

To verify this, run a test on your network using Fast.com to measure its current upload and download speed.

Speed Test

If the result verifies that your internet connection is the problem, unplug your router’s power cable from the outlet to turn it off. Now, wait for 10 seconds before plugging it back in to restart your router.

Restart Router

This will allow your router to re-establish the link with your ISP’s servers, which can fix the slow internet connection.

Once done, run another speed test on your network to check if the problem is solved. On the other hand, contact your ISP and ask them to fix their service if the slow connection continues or upgrade your current plan if it’s below 5 Mbps.

4. Turn Off Your VPN.

Virtual private networks could also be the reason behind the error code 83 on Disney Plus. VPNs protect your network by changing your IP address and filtering the data going out of your device.

However, this process can affect the performance of your internet connection and make it difficult for your device to communicate with Disney Plus’ servers. Some VPNs also don’t work that well and could interrupt the flow of other applications.

If you are running a VPN service on your device, turn it off and try re-accessing Disney Plus.

Turn Off VPN

On the other hand, consider switching to other services like PureVPN if you continue to encounter problems with your current VPN. Compared to other VPNs, it doesn’t interfere with your network and works well with most applications.

You can also use VPNs to access Disney Plus outside the supported regions. Visit our dedicated guide about this to learn more.

5. Clear Your Browser Cache and Cookies.

If the error code 83 on Disney Plus occurs while using your browser, the problem could lie with your browser’s caches and cookies. These are temporary data used by your browser to load websites faster and enhance their overall performance.

However, caches and cookies accumulate over time and could negatively affect your browser’s performance and the websites you visit.

To fix this, follow the steps below to clear your browsing data and eliminate corrupted files from your system:

  • First, open your preferred browser and press the CTRL + H keys on your keyboard.
  • Inside the History tab, click on Clear Browsing Data from the side menu.
  • Now, click on the Time Range tab and change it to All Time .
  • Lastly, ensure that caches and cookies are included in the process and hit the Clear Data button.

Clear Browsing Data

Wait for the process to complete and go back to Disney Plus to check if the error code 83 would still occur.

6. Disable Browser Extensions or Try Another Browser.

Browser extensions are third-party applications that provide additional features to websites. However, not all websites are compatible with browser extensions and could disrupt their usual process.

If you see the error code 83 on Disney Plus while using a browser, turn off any browser extensions you have and check if the problem goes away.

Follow the steps below to disable your browser extensions:

  • First, open your browser and click on the Options button at the top right corner of your display.
  • After that, click on Settings and open the Extensions tab from the side drawer.
  • Lastly, turn off all your extensions and restart your browser.

Disable Browser Extensions

Once done, go back to Disney Plus and check if the problem is solved.

On the other hand, you can also try using a different browser if your current one cannot access Disney Plus. Ideally, you should use browsers such as Chrome , Opera , and Firefox , which are highly optimized for most websites.

7. Run Malwarebytes.

Malware and other viruses may have infected your system and caused Disney Plus and other applications to malfunction. Viruses also consume your system resources and bandwidth, making it difficult for online programs to function correctly.

To check if your device is infected, download Malwarebytes and run a full system scan. This will prompt the tool to search your entire storage for infected files and automatically remove them in the process.

8. Update Disney Plus.

The current version of Disney Plus on your device may no longer be supported by the servers, which explains the error code 83. It is also possible that bugs and glitches are the reason for the error message.

To fix this, update the app to the latest version to eliminate errors and other issues.

On Android, you can update Disney Plus by doing the following steps:

  • First, open the Google Play Store on your device.
  • Next, access the side drawer and tap on My Apps & Games .
  • Lastly, find Disney Plus from the list and press the Update button.

On Android, you can update its operating system by doing the following:

  • First, open the Settings app on your device and scroll down to the bottom.
  • After that, access the About or About Phone tab.
  • Lastly, tap on Software Update and follow the on-screen prompts to update your device.

Update Android

For iOS devices, check out the guide below to update its OS:

  • On your device, tap on Settings and go to the General tab.
  • After that, tap on Software Updates .
  • Finally, tap on Download and Install .

Update iOS

If you are using a Windows computer, check out the guide below to update its operating system:

  • On your keyboard, hit the Windows key to access the Start Menu .
  • After that, click on the Gear icon to access Windows Settings .
  • Now, click on Update & Security and access Windows Updates .
  • Lastly, follow the on-screen prompts to update your computer.

For other devices, refer to your user manual to update its OS or visit Disney Plus’s Help Center and look for the specific guidelines for your system.

10. Reinstall Disney Plus.

On Android, check out the guide below to reinstall Disney Plus:

  • First, open your device and locate Disney Plus from the app drawer.
  • Now, tap and hold its app icon to access the options screen.

What Does Disney Plus Error Code 83 Mean?

“Error Code 83 on TV or Laptop” is one of the most frequently occurring error codes on Disney Plus. This one indicates that Disney Plus thinks you’re using an incompatible device, unstable internet, or using VPN.

How To Fix Disney Plus Error Code 83?

Here we have some troubleshooting methods to fix this error, try them one by one until you reach an effective one.

1. Start With Basic Troubleshooting Steps

Disney Plus needs a strong internet connection in order to function properly. An unstable internet connection might make Disney Plus believe that there is a problem with your device, resulting in error code 83.

  • If you’re streaming using a wireless internet connection, you may try to boost the signal by rebooting your router , shifting it closer to your streaming device, switching off other devices that are connected to the internet, or just switching to a different connection.
  • On a smartphone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to see the list of open applications, then slide Disney Plus off the screen.

Disney Plus is compatible with a wide range of devices. But, there is a unique way to watch Disney Plus on each of these devices.

  • Make sure you’re using the official Disney Plus app, for instance, if you’re using an iPhone or an Android device. It is impossible to watch with a web browser.
