Kasabian Announce Australian Tour

“Kasabian conjures the ghosts of Brit rock titans for one of the decade’s most thrilling and memorable live experiences” – Channel [V]

kasabian-promo

The distinct sound and integrity of Kasabian ‘s fifth studio album defines the very essence of the band, their trademark sound distilled and re-packaged into one incredibly exciting, unique statement of intent. ’ 48:13 ’ is driven by the continuous evolution and musical experimentation of the band through their previous 4 albums, spanning a career which celebrates its 10th year with the release of this, their 5th album.

1st single Eez-eh is a relentless all-night tune, which will doubtlessly ignite at the shows.

Eez-Eh is far from being a serious take on the world’s issues though. Whilst we’ve grown used to Kasabian the rock stars, this is a rave-ready hint at a return to the electronic experimentation that characterized their self-titled debut album way back in 2004, while still retaining their swagger and keeping things tongue-in-cheek, cartoon-like and – most importantly – fun.

– NME

Rarely do bands such as Kasabian push the boundaries with each album and deliver stunning results with releases such as West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum and Velociraptor!

They’re cocky, cool, and here to rule so bow down before the kings of indie rock swagger as they tour Australia throughout August.

What can you say about a Kasabian show? Glorious? Yes. Exuberant? Certainly. Defiant? Of course. But more than anything else simply ...Rocking.

From the first thumping chords of opener "Ill Ray" Kasabian announced their intent to deliver. Storming through a set list loaded with heady anthems, occasionally bringing the mood lower with numbers like the terrific "Goodbye Kiss", Kasabian had the whole arena eating out of their hands.

There's something special that happens when this band start to play in front of an audience. It's united - from those who just love the killer hooks to those who love that Kasabian really dont give a crap about the estaishment and really capture the spirit of rebellion. They're a band that capture the mood of the common person with lyrics at times partying and at other times sobering and thoughtful. But always hopeful - and with a joyous shout. A proper "fuck you" band exhorting the people to stand together and rise as one.

And rise the crowd did. Every single person in Leeds arena on their feet, jumping, dancing, singing - all together as one from those in the sweaty heaving mosh of the floor to those right at the very top of the top tier.

A marvellous night. Kasabian are the band that Oasis wished they were or xould have been.

2009: I am 14, everybody is going crazy about Fire which was the first song I heard, and then Kasabian took my life by storm.

2011: Velociraptor! is out, adventurous and leaving behind all the bands which prefer to stay conservative and stand by classic sounding.

2014: I am 19, and 48:13 strikes with its sonic experimentation. It is colourful, wild, tentative and boundary-pushing.

2017: For crying out loud, so much awaited and so easy-to-love, prolongs the party which was carried to the concert. And it was a true madness fueled by our crazy love and the band’s response. Kasabian can be whatever band they want to be - they have our full support

As a major fan of British/European music, I must say it is always a pleasure to see these bands in the US since a lot of them play in smaller places.

I've seen Kasabian 3 times and my wife has 9 times now. They NEVER disappoint and this show was the same.

The energy they bring is amazing time after time and their music is always fun. They also look like they are having a legit great time up there doing what they love to do.

I was up front and again (which I should have learned)I should have brought ear plugs! But, the sound is muffled when one does uses those, so if you can stand a few days of ringing, then don't worry about it.

Overall if you thinking of seeing them live please, please GO. You will leave a fan.

Pizzorno on stage in Manchester, in white Puffa jacket

Kasabian review – raucous electro bounce fills an absurdly epic show

AO Arena, Manchester Serge Pizzorno steps up as frontman for this fearsome live show, which brings new shades of funk and soft rock to the band’s trademark guitar anthems

W hen Kasabian sacked their singer, Tom Meighan , the day before he was convicted for assaulting his partner, bandmate Serge Pizzorno stepped up from the ranks as a readymade replacement. The dark-featured, bearded guitarist has always been pivotal to the band’s image and joie de vivre, and his 2019 solo album and tour gave him a chance to test out his skills as frontman.

Here, the man who once scored a perfect volleyed goal on live TV while wearing winkle-picker shoes isn’t fazed by the prospect of facing a vast arena. He bounds on in an outsize, graffiti-covered parka of the sort that Liam Gallagher might reject as being over the top. Rocket Fuel – from the band’s latest album, The Alchemist’s Euphoria – brings the noise, a trademark mix of Prodigy-ish beats and Oasis swagger to tee everyone up for the weekend. “Manchester, it’s Friday!” Pizzorno cries. “Give me a mosh pit!”

The coat comes off after three songs, and the frontman reverts to his old self: black-clad, guitar strapped on, singing a little more nasally than his predecessor. But he still packs enough charisma to say things like “Everybody raise your hands to the sky!” without sounding silly.

Although Kasabian’s hooligan electro bounce isn’t for everybody, they are a fearsome live act. Drummer Ian Matthews peppers the electronics with thunderous percussive fills and bassist Chris Edwards brings the funk, meaning Club Foot, Underdog and Shoot the Runner sound raucously incorrigible. The band’s core sound has remained constant in two decades but they have added influences ranging from psychedelia to hip-hop. New song Scriptvre mixes soft rock and mainstream pop, while guitar anthem Bless This Acid House sounds like a duffed-up Stereophonics.

The show recognises the requirements of arenas. Pizzorno isn’t too proud for cliched “Left side make some noise!” routines, while the outfit of their new guitarist, Rob Harvey – a Grim Reaper-type hooded black coat – has a theatrical aspect. You’re in Love With a Psycho segues into Daft Punk’s One More Time, and a dip into the Stone Roses’ Waterfall during an acoustic version of Processed Beats delights the Manchester audience. The pace only drops slightly during an acid rock section. Pizzorno’s walk into the seated areas is fiendishly timed to liven up Treat, one of their more workaday numbers.

Empire becomes a gigantic massed chant and the singer claims: “The vibe tonight is the best I’ve ever seen.” He mentions the state of the country before suggesting that LSF (Lost Souls Forever) is a chance to “forget all the shit and pain, and be together”. The song’s chorus – “We’ve got our backs to the wall” – has never sounded so powerful. By the time they reach an absurdly epic Fire, crowd scenes of writhing bodies, topless males and jostling mosh pits resemble something from ancient Rome. Kasabian’s own empire seems as strong as ever.

kasabian tour australia 2022

Review by Ivor Whitten for MPM

Going through the entrance to the Telegraph Building in Belfast on a rather cool and damp evening you enter a long almost tunnel like passageway that at the end opens up not a huge high roofed hall area.

It is the old Belfast Telegraph building and is literally gutted of any of its previous resident. Concrete floor and the walls are all bare and show the concrete bricks. It should be cold but is surprising always warm enough to even be in a t-shirt.

The packed-out hall tonight sees a great stage covered in alchemical signs and glyphs denoting the main attraction. The wall has a huge banner filled to the brim with the glyphs as well as the instruments on the stage itself. It was clear to see the band filling the building tonight were there to promote their latest well received album, The Alchemist’s Euphoria.

Yes, tonight was the return of Kasabian to Belfast, the incredible indie rockers lads from Leicester. There was no support act, but there was DJ Rigsy on stage warming up the massive crowd in anticipation of Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews, Tim Carter and tour session musician Robert Harvey.

Once the DJ finished and the sound check started people were already so hyped, they started cheering the sound check of each instrument. The broad brush of young and older attendees were really ready for a night of absolutely slamming tuneage.

Then it was time for NME Award winners, Kasabian, to take their place on the stage. The lights dipped and the anticipation went up to electric levels. Then the lights exploded like a thousand suns as the band made their entrance with Sergio coming on last by bouncing around the stage. The roar of approval was deafening going up and down pitches as Sergio raised and lowered his hands encouraging everyone into the club of chaos.

kasabian tour australia 2022

The sound of rapturous applause, cheers, roars and yells were all acknowledged by Sergio with a massive grin on his face. Since taking over from Tom, who left the band this year, there were questions about whether Sergio could fill that position. Any doubt was blasted high into the atmosphere as they immediately dropped into “Rocket Fuel” with full on light performance and Sergio bouncing around the stage like he had too many energy drinks.

And it was spectacular. They crowd went wild before the tempo, impossibly, increased as they then slammed home the firm long-time favourite “Club Foot”. All it took was the first few notes and the whole building went into full chaotic mode jumping and bouncing with wild abandon as every voice joined as one to sing the chorus accentuating each vowel with raised fists. It was simply euphoric.

Even with the change in line-up it was plain to see Sergio’s time as backup singer was not wasted. Along with his vocals his stagemanship showed he was in full control and could turn on a dime at the right time to get the most out of the audience. With the refrain “That’s what I’m talking about” Sergio and the lads went Straight on into “Ill Ray (The King)” and “Underdog”.

kasabian tour australia 2022

The crowd must have been drinking energy drinks all day as there was no let-up in the massive amount of pogo moshing, bouncing, crowd hugging and fist pumping in time. All while they sang their hearts out.

Then to huge roars as Sergio waved of his arms they went into “Chemicals”. In response to the high-octane euphoria Sergio took a moment to address the audience “BELFAST! You are amazing. Let’s get this place jumping. C’mon.” and into the hypnotic beats of “eez-eh” with the whole place going berserk once more as Sergio took up his mantle of guitarist for “You’re in Love With a Psycho” as it medlied in with “One More Time”.

“Shoot the Runner ” was next as Sergio encouraged the crowd with “let’s get it going”. Again, the choral symbiosis of the packed-out hall with the vocals of Sergio was loud and proud. There will be a lot of exhausted people in the morning with very rough voices.

kasabian tour australia 2022

The intro of the space waltz leading into “Scripture” and on into “Treat” with a prompt of “put those hands to the sky” did not need to be said twice. The place was completely enraptured with the second to none performance of Kasabian as they slammed out each song with fervour and energy.

Chants arose of “Sergio” as the band went into “Stevie”. Everybody there must have lost a few pounds as everyone jumped around like maniacs.

kasabian tour australia 2022

“How are we feeling? Getting I want to see some proper bouncing” was another rallying cry from Sergio as they played “Pinch Roller” and “Empire” before finishing the official set with “Vlad the Impaler” and the inevitable bending down of everyone to ‘get loose’ once more.

Obviously, in line with tradition, there was a short recess for the band and to the old football chant of “Oley, Oley, Oley” they came back on and demolished the hall with

kasabian tour australia 2022

“Bless This Acid House”, “L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever)” where Sergio shouted, “Let’s try and get as many people on shoulders as possible, thank you Belfast you’ve been fantastic”. With more audience participation of roars from the left side then the right side then altogether before finishing with the final freak out track for everyone there to spend what energy they had left, Kasabian dropped in “Fire”.

It can simply be said that Kasabian delivered an incredible performance of outstanding showmanship that had everyone in a state of energetic euphoria the entire time. It is an experience that can only be believed if you are there in person. What a night. Kasabian left everyone with smiles on their faces, happiness in their heart and an experience to talk about for months to come.

Kasabian have already previewed ‘The Alchemist’s Euphoria’ with the singles ‘ALYGATOR’ , ‘SCRIPTVRE’ and ‘Chemicals’ . The forthcoming record will mark the group’s first full-length release since the departure of ex-frontman  Tom Meighan in 2020.

Meighan was fired from the band  after being convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend-now-wife, Vikki Ager . Pizzorno has since taken on the role of frontman.

During an interview with  NME in May , Pizzorno said that stepping into the lead singer job hadn’t altered his approach to songwriting. “I’ve always done it my way,” he explained. “If anything, it’s more fun in terms of being able to visualise the live show.”

He went on: “When you see someone sing words that have come from them, there’s something magical about that. You can really feel the sentiment in what someone is trying to say through a charged performance. That’s when sparks fly.

“This album was just us saying, ‘Let’s see what we can do, let’s see where we can take this’. Every album we’ve made has been way different to the one previously and you’ve never really known where we’re going to go next.”

Kasabian’s 2022 UK and Ireland tour dates are as follows:

October 20 – Belfast, The Telegraph Building 21 – Dublin, 3Olympia Theatre 28 – Manchester, AO Arena 29 – London, Alexandra Palace

November 2 – Cardiff, Motorpoint Arena 4 – Birmingham, Utilita Arena 5 – Glasgow, OVO Hydro

Last month saw Kasabian perform a headline set at Isle Of Wight Festival 2022 , where  they were joined on-stage by their famous friend and fan Peter Crouch .

Kasabian: AO Arena, Manchester – live review

Kasabian 2 © Michael Bond

As Kasabian stop off in Manchester on their tour of new album The Alchemist’s Euphoria, with Serge Pizzorno taking over the reigns the burning question is “so what would a Serge-fronted Kasabian sound like?”.  Guest reviewer Natalie Royale reports.

I can’t have been the only Kasabian fan prior to this gig at Manchester’s AO Arena with doubts as to what this performance would be like.  I have been a huge fan of the band since 2004 when they released their first, self-titled album, Kasabian; and when I’ve previously seen them live the band seemed to hinge itself on the chemistry that existed between (then) front man Tom Meighan and co-vocalist, songwriter and guitarist, Sergio (Serge) Pizzorno.

Whilst Serge’s role back then seemed to be to provide the songwriting talent and musical enquiry, Meighan was always the band’s connection to the crowd.  After the departure of Meighan in 2020, when he was convicted of assaulting his partner, a new frontman was required and there was only really ever one person in the running – step up to centre-stage Mr Pizzorno.

Kasabian 6 © Michael Bond

The band are touring their seventh studio album, The Alchemist’s Euphoria – their first with Pizzorno in the driver’s seat – and euphoria is undeniably the mood radiating from the sell-out crowd.  They open with Rocket Fuel – an industrial rave-like song with echoes of The Prodigy, the bassy thud that hits you in your stomach immediately getting the crowd bouncing along.  Pizzorno looks every inch the rock star – literally larger than life, with his 6’4” frame engulfed in a huge graffiti-covered puffer jacket, which unfortunately doesn’t last too long before it’s removed so he can carry on throwing himself energetically around the stage.

The band are fresh from the European leg of this tour and, although this Manchester show isn’t technically a homecoming gig for the Leicester rockers, you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise.  Pizzorno announces that “Manchester is where it’s f*&^ing at” and demands that we “sing our f^&*ing hearts out as loud as we can” – with the crowd only too happy to oblige.

Kasabian 3 © Michael Bond

Rocket Fuel is followed by three of their older, more anthemic tracks –  Club Foot, Ill Ray (The King) and Underdog, which all sound fresh and as loud and as large as the arena itself.  The whole crowd is bouncing, from the front barrier right to the back in the nosebleed seats.

CHEMICALS comes next with the melodic verse contrasting magnificently with the huge chorus.  Pizzorno’s energy is nothing short of infectious and this energy doesn’t fade all night, apart from one moment during the instrumental in TUE where, if you close your eyes, you could be forgiven for thinking you were at an early 1970s Pink Floyd concert, which provides a welcome moment to recover from all the dancing. They play Processed Beats for the first time since 2014 – and Serge dedicates the song to all the fans from ‘back in the day’ and thanks them for sticking around.  The crowd thank him right back as Pizzorno lowers the mic and lets the audience sing his chorus right back at him.

There is a clear mutual appreciation going on, Pizzorno spending a large portion of this gig applauding the crowd, hands raised above his head, with the audience roaring their gratitude right back at him.  The band even give an extra nod to the City’s musical heritage when they mix their 2004 hit Cutt Off (the first airing of this song since 2015) with Manchester legends The Stone Roses’ Waterfall, which goes down a storm with the crowd.

Kasabian 1 © Michael Bond

The new lineup is definitely more The Serge Show than the original Meighan-fronted Kasabian, but with a songwriter, producer and frontman like Serge, what’s not to love?  Their new songs blend effortlessly with the old classics, and you get a feeling Pizzorno is performing these older songs the way he always intended them to be performed.  Pizzorno (the musical and lyrical alchemist) is definitely euphoric in his new role.  What could have spelt the end for one of the UK’s most popular bands has resulted in a resounding comeback, and the band feel and sound stronger, tighter – and LOUDER – than ever –  I have never felt energy like it.

My advice?  If you get the chance to go and watch Kasabian on this tour – GO.  And be prepared to bounce.

Tiger Woods is in one of nine groups that didn’t finish first-round play. There was a weather delay, which pushed back start times. The five-time Masters champion has a score of minus-1 and is tied for 17th. He, Jason Day and Max Homa made it through hole No. 13 before the alarm sounded that darkness was starting to descend.

2016 Masters champion Danny Willett finished the round with a score of minus-4 in his return from shoulder surgery. Last year’s champion, Jon Rahm, has a score of plus-1. — Victoria Hernandez

American Bryson DeChambeau is atop the leaderboard after the first round of the 2024 Masters. He’s in pursuit of his first green jacket — his best showing was at the 2016 Masters when he finished tied for 21st place.

DeChambeau only has a one stroke lead over fellow American Scottie Scheffler (-6), who sits in second place. Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard (-5) is in third place and has the potential to climb up the leaderboard. He only completed 15 holes in round one before play was suspended due to darkness. Højgaard will resume play on the first round on Friday.  — Cydney Henderson

The first round will resume on Friday at 7:50 a.m. ET. Among the golfers still on the course when Round 1 play was suspended were Nicolai Højgaard (-5 through 15 holes), Max Homa (-4 through 13), Tyrrell Hatton (-3 through 14) and Tiger Woods (-1 through 13).

Bryson DeChambeau leading Masters using 3-D printed irons only approved by USGA on Monday

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Mad Scientist is at it again.

Bryson DeChambeau, who opened with a  7-under 65 in the first round  of the  Masters  at Augusta National Golf Club, is playing with a custom set of single-length irons made by little-known clubmaker Avoda that are made by 3-D printing and weren’t approved by the USGA until Monday . Tiger Woods finishes day one under par after 13 holes

The 13th hole (par 5) threatened to end Woods’ streak of eight consecutive holes at par or under. He teed off a 295-yard drive with 173 MPH ball speed that ended up in the rough behind a line of trees. He took a moment to strategize how he was going to avoid hitting any trees that surrounded him and ultimately decided to play it conservatively with a low straight shot that found the fairway. He landed on the green his next stroke and two-putted the ball in to save par. He finished the day at minus-1 through 13 holes. — Cydney Henderson

Nicolai Højgaard moves up leaderboard

Nicolai Højgaard sits in third place on the leaderboard, behind Bryson DeChambeau (minus-7) and Scottie Scheffler (minus-6) after 15 holes of play.

Woods teed off at the 12th hole (Par 3, 150 yards) with a seven iron and overshot the green, ending up in the rough at the back of the hole. The ball was positioned near a sprinkler head, so Woods had to awkwardly get into position for his second stroke, but he was able to make clean contact with the ball despite the debris. Drip check: Jason Day rocks hammer pants that wave in the wind

A weather delay pushed back tee times on Thursday and the wind continued to push Jason Day’s pants around.

The Australian golfer, who is in the same group as Tiger Woods, was a trending topic on X, formerly Twitter, for his oversized pants that flapped in the wind. Fans compared Day to rap icon MC Hammer , who was known for his parachute pants, or implied that perhaps the golfer was trying to pay homage to a younger Woods .

Tiger Woods pars No. 11, still at minus-1

Welcome back to Amen’s Corner, Tiger.

Woods drove the ball 300 yards up the fairway with a ball speed of 174 MPH to open up the 11th hole, the start of Amen’s Corner, a stretch of three holes at the Masters that is considered to be particularly difficult. According to the ESPN broadcast, the 11th hole (par 4, 530 yards) is the second toughest hole on the course today.

As Woods approached his second shot, the wind howled before he dropped the ball right in front of the green. His next shot was a work of art. He chipped the ball inches away from the hole to a lot of applause from the crowd and tapped it in for a par. He remains at minus-1. — Cydney Henderson

Tiger Woods on back nine, still at one under par

Woods started the 10th hole (par 4, 495 yards) out strong with a 306-yard drive down the fairway, but he missed to the right on his next stroke and landed in the bunker. Woods was not satisfied with his shot, rolling his eyes and taking a swipe at the grass with his club afterward, but he rebounded nicely. Tiger Woods shows he can still drive the ball

Tiger Woods still has power. At the ninth hole, Woods teed off on a 303-yard drive with a 177 MPH ball speed to set him up for a birdie attempt.

Although he had an opportunity to climb up the leaderboard, Woods’ putt for birdie lost steam uphill against the wind. Woods is at minus-1 at the halfway point. He had two birdies and one bogey in the first nine holes. — Cydney Henderson

Rory McIlroy finishes up-and-down Round 1

Rory McIlroy finished the first round at Augusta National tied for 15th place at 1 under par after a roller coaster of a day.

He proceed to right the ship, however, and shot four birdies to bring him to minus-2 heading into the 17th hole. One of the tallest competitors in Masters history, amateur Christo Lamprecht has grabbed a share of the lead.

Erik van Rooyen continues solid start

Making his third Masters appearance, Erik van Rooyen is making the most of it.

Van Rooyen, who was part of the first pair to tee off, is in a four-way tie for the lead at 3 under as he hits the turn.

Not to be outdone, Korea's Byeong Hun An also birdied his first three holes to grab a share of the lead. — Steve Gardner

Masters forecast at Augusta

The storm front that forced a 2 1/2-hour delay in starting first-round play at Augusta National has given way to sunshine and breezy conditions with the arrival of the noon hour.

The wind is expected to gust up to 40 mph during the course of the day, making it more difficult for players with afternoon tee times.

Among the more prominent names who will have to deal with those conditions: defending champion Jon Rahm (1 p.m. start), 2022 winner Scottie Scheffler (1:12) and five-time champ Tiger Woods (3:54). — Steve Gardner

Bryson DeChambeau birdies first three holes

2020 U.S. Open Bryson DeChambeau is off to a scorching hot start, making birdies on each of his first three holes to take over the lead at Augusta.

Erik van Rooyen is still at 2 under after seven holes, good enough for second place. Danny Willett, who birdied two of the first three holes, bogeyed No. 5 to fall into a pack tied for third at 1 under.

Getting ready to tee off next is Phil Mickelson, Sepp Straka and Tony Finau.

Masters leaders: Willett, van Rooyen tied at 2 under

England's Danny Willett and South Africa's Erik van Rooyen each have a pair of birdies on their scorecards in the early going at Augusta National.

They share the lead at 2-under par.

Van Rooyen, in the day's first pairing off the tee, birdied the third and sixth holes.

History of Green Jacket at Masters

The Green Jacket awarded to the Masters champion each year is one of the most iconic symbols in sports.
