As Lorde’s highly-anticipated Australian tour edges closer, two stellar support acts have been confirmed.

For the first time in six years, the Kiwi pop superstar will return to venues across Australia as part of her Solar Power World Tour next March.

Beginning in Brisbane on Wednesday, March 8th, Lorde will then perform twice in both Melbourne and Sydney, before concluding the Australian leg in Perth on Saturday, March 18th (see full dates below).

After making their Australian debut at Sydney WorldPride in the same month, rising indie-pop trio MUNA will support Lorde at her Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney shows.

Under Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records label, the three-piece released their self-titled third studio album this year to positive reviews.

And in Perth only, Sydney singer-songwriter Laura Jean will join Lorde for one special performance. A two-time nominee for the Australian Music Prize, Jean released her latest album, Amateurs , earlier this year.

Lorde’s tour is in support of her own third studio album, Solar Power , which debuted atop both the Australian and New Zealand Albums Charts.

“Like Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift before her, the New Zealand star embraces mellowness on a third album shaded by climate anxiety and a rejection of celebrity,” The Guardian wrote in a positive review, while Pitchfork called Solar Power a “self-aware, scaled-back album.”

Lorde Announces Special Guests on Australian 'Solar Power' 2023 Dates

The tour dates kick off on March 8, 2023.

pixeltracker

This March, for the first time in six years, global powerhouse Lorde will make her anticipated return to venues across Australia as part of her global Solar Power World Tour. Today, she announces some of the most exciting artists on the indie-pop landscape - MUNA (USA) and Laura Jean (AUS) - as special guests on her forthcoming dates!

Californian indie-pop trio MUNA will make their Australian debut at Sydney WorldPride on 5 March before kicking things off with Lorde at Brisbane's stunning Riverstage on Wednesday 8 March and continuing through Melbourne and Sydney.

Lorde will also be playing the Adelaide Festival. MUNA are again one of her support acts, and the other is unique to Adelaide - singer-songwriter Stellie, who FYI was a 2019 Feature Artist on Triple j Unearthed, releasing her self-titled debut EP in 2021 to much acclaim.

Her 2022 dark-pop and electronica single Violet Girl arrived ahead of her first ever headline shows on the East Coast and Adelaide, after supporting acts such as The VANNS, Cub Sport, Winston Surfshirt, Lime Cordiale and G-Flip.

Known for their impeccable live performances and stellar on-stage charisma, MUNA's live show has been described as "effortlessly captivating and endlessly impressive" (Varsity UK).

Released earlier this year, MUNA's self-titled third studio album is a landmark - the forceful, deliberate, dimensional output of a band who has nothing to prove to anyone except themselves.

Featuring Phoebe Bridgers, album single 'Silk Chiffon' was MUNA's instant-classic cult smash, hitting the grey skies of the pandemic's year-and-a-half mark in 2021 like a double rainbow. Marked by a newfound creative assurance, the band musters their unique powers to break through the existential muck and transport listeners to a place where vulnerability in the presence of those who love you can make you feel momentarily bulletproof, and self-consciousness only sharpens the swell of joy.

Sydney songwriter Laura Jean is revered for the striking beauty of her music and the strength of her piercing, intimate lyrics. She will join Lorde for one special night at Perth's Belvoir Amphitheatre on Saturday 18 March.

Released this year, Amateurs is the brand-new album from Laura Jean. It's a stunning, string-laden offering, set at a mystical midway point between the deep synth-pop of Laura's previous album Devotion (2018) and the folkier sounds of her earlier work.

Praised by fellow artists, critics, and fans alike, Laura Jean has twice been shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize, has recorded with Paul Kelly , The Drones and more, and toured Courtney Barnett and Aldous Harding to name a few.

Released last year to critical acclaim, Lorde's third studio album Solar Power debuted at the top of Australia and New Zealand charts. It sees the artist turning her attention to nature, the record's lead single 'Solar Power' hailed as "her most universal song, hippy in sound and spirit- Lorde conjures its transformational magic anew" by The Guardian.

This March, join Lorde and special guests MUNA and Laura Jean for a sensational night of music. Known for her captivating on-stage presence and enthralling vocals, Lorde doesn't just put on a show, she delivers a sensory experience. Kick your 2023 off right, and don't miss what is certain to be a highlight of the year!

In 2013, a 16-year-old LORDE quietly, yet confidently asserted herself as the voice of a generation with her full-length debut, Pure Heroine. The album would go triple-platinum, win two GRAMMY® Awards, and spawn the certified Diamond, record-breaking, international juggernaut single, "Royals," and quadruple-platinum follow up "Team."

The former cemented LORDE as "the youngest solo artist and the only New Zealander to achieve #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1987." Time exalted her amongst the "Most Influential Teenagers in the World," she landed on Forbes's "30 Under 30" List, graced the cover of Rolling Stone and performed alongside Nirvana during the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

She also curated the official soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 and recorded "Yellow Flicker Beat" as the lead single. In 2017 LORDE released her second full-length studio album, Melodrama which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart, making her the first ever NZ artist to land a #1 debut album in the United States.

The album reached #1 in over 45 countries and earned LORDE a nomination for Album of the Year at the 2018 GRAMMY® Awards. In 2021, LORDE made her highly anticipated return with critically acclaimed single, "Solar Power," from her third full-length studio album, Solar Power. Solar Power was released August 20th and debuted at #1 in Australia and NZ and Top 5 around the world including US, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal.

On release of Solar Power, Lorde released an innovative eco-conscious discless Music box product as an alternative to a CD. LORDE currently has over 14 million albums sold worldwide and over 14 billion streams worldwide.

Update: Lorde adds special guests to postponed Australian Solar Power 2023 tour

  • X (formerly Twitter)

Not gonna lie: That her Lady Lorde-ness would be blessing us with a new live show in 2022 was something that really kept us all going through the thick of lockdowns and COVID isolation.

So, it's a bummer to hear that Lorde's Australian shows behind her sun-soaked, subdued third album Solar Power has been pushed back a year, into March 2023.

Update:  The special guets for Lorde's Aus tour have been announced.

Joining all East Coast shows will be MUNA, the US indie pop trio who are also headlining Sydney's WorldPride closing concert for their debut Australian visit.  Opening in Perth will be singer-songwriter (and current Double J Feature Album artist ) Laura Jean.

“I am beyond devastated to be postponing these shows," Lorde said in a statement.

"I fought this decision for a long time, but the truth is that touring internationally through a COVID outbreak has a ton of unforeseen moving parts, and I’d much rather play for you when we’re all confident it will go smoothly."

"I want to apologise wholeheartedly to the fans. I’m so gutted to let you down, but so grateful for your understanding. We’ll rage next year.”

Promoters Frontier Touring explain the "difficult decision" to postpone the tour is "due to the continuing uncertainty around the current NZ outbreak. Both Australia and New Zealand's borders need to be "fully open to both citizens and non-citizens" and the complication is that Lorde's "entire crew and most of her band are international."

The silver lining is that additional shows have been added in Brisbane and Perth. Those tickets are available from Friday 19 November, 11am local time.

All tickets for the original dates will remain vaild, but those unable to attend can request for a full refund by Friday 10 December. View the rescheduled dates below. Australian dates in bold.

Lorde announces Australia-New Zealand Solar Power tour for 2022, release date for new album

By Áine Ryan | 3 years ago

Lorde is set to perform in Australia and New Zealand for the first time in five years.

The 'Green Light' singer, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, will kick off her Solar Power tour in New Zealand on February 27 next year before visiting Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. She will wrap up in Perth on Saturday, March 19. See the full dates below.

Lorde also announced in her newsletter that her next studio album will be released on August 20.

The announcement says Lorde will release it in "a first-of-its kind, discless format" to honour "the natural world." See the tracklist below.

Lorde teased an announcement earlier this week when she shared a mysterious video on her website showing her sitting cross-legged on the sand. The video was captioned "SOLSTICE", referring to the Winter-Summer Solstice (June 21 local time), and sent fans into a frenzy.

The Australian-New Zealand leg of the tour is part of this morning's global tour announcement, which includes stops across Europe, the United Kingdom and North America.

Tickets go on sale on Monday, July 5, but there will be a Frontier pre-sale on Wednesday, June 30.

Lorde announces Solar Power tour

The album and tour news comes just two weeks after the 24-year-old New Zealand-born singer dropped her single 'Solar Power' — her first release in four years and the first single from her upcoming album of the same name.

"The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I'm outdoors," Lorde said recently.

"In times of heartache, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I've learnt to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through."

Lorde 2023

Press Release:

Following the release of her long anticipated new single, ‘Solar Power’ earlier this month – her first new music in four years and the first taste of her forthcoming album of the same name – the inimitable songstress will hit the road for a nine-date run across the Antipodes to kick off 2022.

Penned with long-time collaborator and producer Jack Antonoff, ‘Solar Power’ is a refreshing dip back to organics, providing a new inspirational anthem for the Summer.

‘Solar Power’ has taken the world by storm with NME calling it a “gorgeous, sun-kissed rebirth” and a “quietly but supremely confident return”. The track is a stunning shift in sound with The Guardian saying, “… it might be her most universal song, hippy in sound and spirit… Yet sung in pop’s most conspiratorial voice – that sweet, scratchy whisper – Lorde conjures its transformational magic anew”.

At the age of just 16, Lorde released her first album Pure Heroine, breaking into the international market and later going on to win two Grammy Awards including the coveted Song of the Year. The album peaked at #1 in over 20 countries, including Australia, New Zealand and America and featuring chart topping tracks ‘Royals’, ‘Tennis Court’ and ‘Team’.

With 2017’s follow up, Melodrama, Lorde achieved bona fide superstar status. Launching with pop gem ‘Green Light’, the record gained critical acclaim, a slew of award nominations, multi-platinum status, seeing Lorde now exceed 12 million album sales worldwide across her career and over 10 billion streams globally.

With her third studio album, Lorde turns her attention to nature. She says,

“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learnt to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”

Renowned for her enthralling vocals and commanding stage presence, Lorde never fails to impress on the live stage. Visiting cities across Australia and New Zealand for the first time since her sold out 2017 national tour, don’t miss your chance to catch this epic performer live next year!

The Solar Power Tour

  • View history

The Solar Power Tour is the upcoming third tour by New Zealander singer-songwriter Lorde , in support of her third studio album Solar Power (2021). Set to begin in April 2022, the tour will play over 50 concerts in Australasia, North America, and Europe.

Background [ ]

The Primavera Sound setlist for their 2022 festival was revealed on 25 May 2021, which included Lorde as a headliner. The dates for the Solar Power Tour were announced alongside the tracklist and release date of Solar Power on 21 June 2021. Lorde offered presale tickets for her fans subscribed to her mailing list, with presale tickets available from 24 June 2021 in North America and Europe, and 30 June 2021 in Australia and New Zealand. The general sale opened in North America and Europe on 25 June 2021, and in Australia and New Zealand on 5 July 2021. Taranaki Daily News reported that prices for her concert in New Plymouthstarted from NZ$89.90 plus fees.

On 25 June 2021, after her two London shows sold out instantly, Lorde added two new dates in London, with a third show in the Roundhouse Theatre scheduled for 3 June 2022, and another performance to close out the tour on 28 June 2022 at Alexandra Palace. A second show was added in Šibenik on the same day, with Croatia Week reporting that tickets for her first show sold out in 3 seconds. Additional shows were also added in Toronto, Boston, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. On 1 July 2021, two additional shows were added in Australia, after "overwhelming demand", with one show each added in Melbourne and Sydney.

It was announced on 10 November 2021 that the Australasian leg of the Solar Power Tour would be postponed to 2023. Lorde said of the decision that "touring internationally through a Covid outbreak has a ton of unforeseen moving parts, and I'd much rather play for you when we're all confident it will go smoothly", and promoters Frontier Touring said that the tour was initially scheduled with the expectation that there would be no restrictions on quarantine and that the borders of Australia and New Zealand would be open to non-citizens. New shows in Lower Hutt, Brisbane, and Perth were also announced.

Lorde has announced her first Aussie tour in five years.

The singer will kick off her Solar Power Tour in New Zealand in February, 2022 before heading to Australia next March.

Lorde will perform in Brisbane (March 10), Melbourne (March 12) and Sydney (March 15), before wrapping up in Perth (March 19).

The announcement comes after Lorde released her new single, Solar Power , earlier this month.

The song is the title track from her third album which will be released on August 20.

The song’s artwork featured a revealing photo of the singer which quickly went viral online .

Speaking to triple j Breakfast, Lorde said about the cheeky photo: “It is funny, I keep thinking ‘Oh, this person that I know has seen my butt.’”

She continued: “It’s a specific experience thinking about everyone in your life seeing your butt. I have no regrets. I love this cover and am happy for this to be how people see my butt.

“I was sent a couple of memes. They were very funny; I liked them. I’m so out of touch with meme culture but I’m down. All the memes!”

Lorde added that she’s “not really on the internet” these days which she “loves”.

“But it does mean I miss a lot and I really don’t know what’s being said about me,” she added. “I like it that way.”

Lorde is coming to Australia next year.

This is savage. One of the biggest rappers of the 21st century just performed to a near-empty arena meant to house 10,000 screaming fans.

An R&B hitmaker and three-time Grammy Award winner has announced he will bring his global tour to Australia later this year.

Time Out says

The Kiwi queen of pop's Solar Power tour is finally coming to Australia

It's been a hot minute since Lorde last graced Australian shores, but the wait is almost over. Lorde's rescheduled Solar Power tour brings her to Sydney this month (Mar 13-14) to showcase her distinct pop ballads at the Aware Super Theatre at the ICC Sydney .

While Lorde may have burst onto the scene with a dark and almost melancholic style of pop with  Pure Heroine  and  Melodrama , the star's  Solar Power  album is more sanguine.

Lorde has said: "The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learnt to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”

See Lorde as part of her Solar Power tour in Sydney on March 13 and 14, 2023.

Get ready to belt out all the words to 'Ribs' and 'Green Light'.

Lorde: Solar Power World Tour 2023

Lorde is back. After five years away from music, the New Zealand pop sensation returned in 2021 with third studio album Solar Power . And, if you've been hanging out to hear it live, her delayed tour is finally heading our way in March.

The Solar Power World Tour was meant to hit in 2022 , but was postponed due to New Zealand's COVID-19 situation and border rules at the time . When it makes its way to Brisbane's Riverstage on Wednesday, March 6, fans will still be in for a treat, of course — and three albums worth of Lorde tunes.

The Come Up Show

On the Solar Power tour, expect to have plenty of company belting out all the words to 'Ribs' and 'Green Light'.

The last time that Australia was treated to Lorde's live set was her headline set at Splendour in the Grass 2018 , a full-circle moment for the singer as she returned to the stage of one of her first ever performances as a last-minute replacement for Frank Ocean back in 2013 . A year prior, in 2017 , Lorde also toured some of Australia's largest and most iconic outdoor venues including the Sydney Opera House Forecourt.

Lorde announces Solar Power Tour of New Zealand, Australia in 2022

Watch: Lorde released her first song in four years, Solar Power, earlier this month. Credits: Image - Getty, Ophelia Mikkelson Jones; Video - Universal Music

Lorde will tour her new album Solar Power in New Zealand and Australia next year, it has been announced.

The Grammy winner will play five shows across outdoor venues in Aotearoa in early 2022, and will then head across the ditch for four more gigs. Before her headline tour kicks off, Lorde will also perform as part of Christchurch festival Electric Avenue's line up on February 26.

More from Newshub

Lorde's return to the stage has been five years in the making, following a long hiatus from touring and making music.

Her single 'Solar Power' dropped earlier this month, giving fans a taste of her forthcoming album of the same name - the release date of which remains a mystery.

The tour will begin on February 27 in Upper Moutere, near Nelson, before heading to Lower Hutt, Havelock, New Plymouth and Auckland.

Lorde will then perform in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, with her Kiwi and Aussie shows making up a global tour that will see her make stops across Europe, The UK and North America.

The 24-year-old's choice of outdoor venues across New Zealand is fitting, considering her third studio album is, in her own words, "a celebration of the natural world".

"[It's] an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors," she wrote in a newsletter to her fans.

"In times of heartache, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I've learnt to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through."

Tickets for the all-ages shows go on sale to the general public on Monday July 5. Ticket buyers will also be able to pre-order Solar Power at an exclusive special price.

Lorde Solar Power NZ Tour dates:

  • Sunday, February 27 - Neudorf Vineyards, Upper Moutere
  • Tuesday, March 1 - Days Bay, Lower Hutt NZ
  • Wednesday, March 2 - Black Barn Vineyards, Havelock
  • Friday, March 4 - TSB Bowl Of Brooklands, New Plymouth
  • Saturday, March 5 - Outer Fields at Western Springs, Auckland

The combo had already been confirmed for Lorde’s show in Adelaide – scheduled for Thursday March 16 at Adelaide Oval, with Stellie also booked to perform – which was announced last month as part of the program for this year’s Adelaide Festival . Today (November 10), however, it was revealed that MUNA would join Lorde at her own shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

After the tour kicks off in Brisbane on Wednesday March 8, Lorde will perform two shows each in Melbourne (Friday March 10 and Saturday 11) and Sydney (Monday March 13 and Tuesday 14), before wrapping up in Perth on Saturday March 18. MUNA will not perform on the lattermost date, with their spot being taken by Melbourne artist Laura Jean (who just last week released her sixth album, ‘Amateurs’ ).

Tickets for all of the shows are on sale now – find them here for Brisbane, here for Adelaide, and here for everywhere else.

Lorde’s Australian ‘Solar Power’ tour was initially slated to go down in March of this year, before being postponed last November . It comes in support of her titular third album, which arrived last August and earned a five-star review from NME’s Rhian Daly .

Lorde’s Australian ‘Solar Power’ tour dates are:

Lorde Pushes Australia & New Zealand ‘Solar Power’ Tour To 2023

By Nastassia Baroni

Lorde has announced her upcoming 2022 Solar Power Tour across Australia & New Zealand has been postponed for a full year, to February-March 2023.

In a statement today, organisers have cited the “continuing uncertainty around the current NZ outbreak, and unknown implementation dates of the new traffic light system” as the cause of the postponement to ensure the tour can proceed without risk of last-minute lockdowns.

Explaining further, promoters would need both countries’ borders to be fully open to both citizens and non-citizens, as the majority of Lorde’s touring band and crew are non-citizens and would currently all require travel exemptions. They have also stated that they would need assurance that there would be limited or no quarantine in place.

While it’s feasible that those measures could be in place by 2022, they cannot at this stage be guaranteed.

“I am beyond devastated to be postponing these shows,” Lorde shared in a statement. “Starting the tour in New Zealand was always really important to me, and would have been a huge high. I fought this decision for a long time, but the truth is that touring internationally through a COVID outbreak has a ton of unforeseen moving parts, and I’d much rather play for you when we’re all confident it will go smoothly.

“I want to apologise wholeheartedly to the fans. I’m so gutted to let you down, but so grateful for your understanding. We’ll rage next year.”

In a hint of a silver lining, the postponement has led to additional shows at previously sold-out venues in Lower Hutt, Days Bay (NZ) on Wednesday 22 February, Brisbane, Riverstage on Tuesday 7 March and Perth, Belvoir Ampitheatre on Friday 17 March.
