Day 1 : marrakech, kasbah ait ben haddou, zagora desert.

7 HOURS DRIVE

The journey begins inside a modern air-conditioned minibus, should you come as part of a shared group, where we will head towards the Atlas Mountains. Our first port of call is at the  Kasbah in Ait Ben Haddou.

This walled city actually is home to around six Kasbahs and you’ll be amazed at the ancient feel of the place. After our stop off at the Kasbah we will head to the city of Ouarzazate. Here you can witness the place where many Hollywood blockbuster films were shot. The Living Daylights, Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia, among others, have all seen the clapperboard in this city.

If the scheduler allows for it, we may also stop off at the Atlas Film Studios. There is a 8.00 euro entrance fee to the studios, which has not been included within the price. Entry to the studios is at your own discretion.

The afternoon is when we make our way through the Draa Valley. You will see a beautiful oasis and a stunning landscape that will have you taking photographs at regular points. At the end of this day we will meet up with our camels and ride to Zagora desert camp.

The Overnight Stay

The overnight stay in the Berber tents will include a sumptuous evening meal and breakfast in the morning. It is possible to upgrade your overnight accommodation to a luxury desert camp with shower.

What to bring with you?

Also, a light jacket is very important because some places are a bit cold even in the summertime. To protect yourself from the strong sun we advise you to bring a Cap. For the balance from 0.50 cents to 20 euro, it depends on how much you want:

Can I use euro or Dollar in Morocco?

We had the best two days traveling from Marrakech to Zagora desert with Mohamed. The journey was filled with scenic views of the Atlas Mountains and the Draa Valley. We stopped at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and learned about its history. The camel ride at sunset was a highlight of the trip. We spent the night in a traditional Berber camp and enjoyed a delicious dinner under the stars. The next day, we visited the Draa Valley and learned about the local culture. Mohamed was an excellent guide and made the trip unforgettable.

During the 2-day tour of Morocco, we visited a variety of destinations. On the first day, we explored the vibrant city of Marrakech, visiting the Bahia Palace and the Koutoubia Mosque. We also wandered through the bustling souks and enjoyed a traditional Moroccan lunch.

The second day was spent in the Atlas Mountains, where we hiked to the top of Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. Along the way, we passed through small Berber villages and enjoyed stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Overall, the tour provided a great introduction to the culture and natural beauty of Morocco.

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Boumalne Du Dades.

We will start your desert tour from Marrakesh airport/hotel/riad, in order to drive to Ouarzazate, a former caravan town on the silk and salt route in the eastern foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Ouarzazate is known as the Gateway to the Sahara desert. We will travel through the dramatic landscape of the High Atlas Mountains passing through the Berber town of Taddert and over the 2260 meters high Tizi-in-Tichka pass. Day 2: Boumalne Du Dades – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

After breakfast in the hotel, Leaving the Dades valley towards Tineghir and the Todra valley. Watch the panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. Get to the Gorge and walk under the 300m high red cliff, where many Rock-climbers come to enjoy their preferred sport. Continue our trip to Erfoud where we have a lunch break; afterward, we drive toward the village of Merzouga and Erg Chebbi dunes, where your camel will be awaiting you. Last week we had the opportunity to travel for 2 days to the desert, we visited the beautiful towns of Risani, Quazarzate, the extensive desert, with a dromedary trip and a night in a tent under hundreds of stars and to the sound of the drums. We went to the majestic gorges, valley of the roses and we toured kilometers of palm trees!

Our guide and driver Omar, very polite, respectful, friendly, and with a lot of disposition, made this an excellent experience! Said our contact, being always aware of us made us feel safe!

We traveled last week from Marracket to the Merzouga Desert, crossing the Atlas in 4x4 with our guide Youssef and his team and, apart from being beautiful and knowing how to be, they have shown us their professionalism and knowledge of a perfectly structured and coordinated tour.

Beautiful times and places to taste the art of its cuisine so well-spiced, with stops in corners that have left us hooked on this country for its beauty, its contrasts, its light, and above all, the hospitality of its Berber inhabitants, from those who, from minute zero, feels like a friend forever.

We have visited and had tea in the tents of the desert nomads and we took a dromedary excursion from the hotel where we were staying to its great dune, where we saw a beautiful sunset, to end up looking at the stars and sleeping listening to the silence of the desert within their tents. Private 3-Day Marrakech Desert Tour

We had an incredible trip to Zagora that stands out as one of the most memorable parts of my entire journey. Our driver, Ali, was an absolute gem. He wore a constant smile, enthusiastically accommodated our wishes, even joining in group activities and posing for photos with us. Ali truly went above and beyond! Our host, Nidal, was equally fantastic. She provided invaluable assistance, even arranging transport for us on two separate occasions after our tour had ended. Despite no longer being under his direct care, Nidal remained responsive and eager to answer all of our queries. One area that could be improved upon was the lack of information provided before the tour. Although we received an email the day before the tour, having a detailed itinerary with a timeline and all planned activities for the first day would have been very beneficial. Another aspect we encountered was a bit of pressure from our guide, Hassan, at Ait Benhaddou, urging us to make purchases from his family’s store at inflated prices. Nonetheless, our experience at Zagora campsite was wonderful. The hosts there were delightful to chat with, the accommodations were excellent, and the food was top-notch.

The experience is truly remarkable and something that everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. The guides are incredibly friendly, the food is delicious, and the location is stunning. While the van driver seemed solely focused on driving, it would have been nice if he shared some insights about the places we were passing by. In the back of the van, there was only ventilation, and with temperatures reaching 40 degrees, it was quite challenging. Admittedly, they do take you to eat at relatively expensive places, but the meals are all very tasty. The camel ride was a bit less enjoyable due to the heat, but the campsite made up for it. We were fortunate enough to sleep outside under the stars, which turned out to be a beautiful experience. Given the intense heat, staying inside the tents wasn’t an option. Despite some downsides, I believe this experience is truly unmissable. If you have the chance, consider going for the 3-day trip as this one felt a bit rushed due to its length.

The activities were enjoyable, but the bus ride turned out to be much longer than expected (they should make this clearer beforehand). Not all expenses are covered as it seems you need to pay separately to visit the village (Aït-Ben-Haddou), which might not be worth it. Additionally, you’re expected to tip the guide. On a positive note, the camel guides were friendly and didn’t demand tips. The night in the desert is incredibly hot, and having air conditioning would definitely be a valuable addition.

This overnight trip is a fantastic way to truly feel the desert experience! Along the journey to the desert, you’ll be treated to stunning views of various mountain ranges in Morocco. The sunsets and sunrises are absolutely breathtaking. Be aware that the food quality might not meet high expectations, and be prepared for the bus ride. Our Berber camel guide and the camp experience were delightful. This is definitely a must-do when you’re in Marrakech.

It was a positive experience overall. The only issues were that the drive from Marrakesh is quite lengthy (over 8 hours of travel), and our driver seemed inexperienced, lacking knowledge about our planned itinerary. I highly recommend those who are about to embark on this experience to pack a backpack, as suitcases can’t be taken into the desert (if you bring one, the van driver will store it). Keep in mind that the bathrooms and showers are shared with other guests in the desert camp.

Your first destination will be the city of Ifrane, which is known as the Switzerland of Morocco because of its colder climate. After that, you will cross the Middle Atlas Mountains. You will stop by the road in a cedar forest to see some Barbary monkeys.

Lunch will be in a restaurant somewhere along the way. Then, you will travel along the Ziz Valley (an oasis full of palm trees). You will stop at a panoramic view to see this oasis.

You will reach the desert in the afternoon. Your camels will be waiting to take you across the dunes to your luxury camp. You will also watch the sunset from a high dune. Once you arrive at the campsite, the staff will show you your private tent, where you can relax and take a shower. After having a delicious dinner, the team will light a bonfire. Then, have a seat and enjoy the view while the Berbers are drumming and singing.

Today, waking up early in the morning is recommended to watch a calm sunrise. After a tasty breakfast, you will leave the camp by a 4×4 vehicle driving to the town of Merzouga. Then, start your long journey to Marrakech. You will have some stops along the way.

You will stop in Ait Benhaddou to see a panoramic view of the most famous Kasbah in Morocco. Many famous movies and TV series have used the fortified village. For example, the Mummy, Prince of Persia, and Game of Thrones used the Kasbah as a location. UNESCO has protected the ancient village as a World Heritage Site since 1987.

Sardine tours are usually for 3 days and are rushed, cramped and uncomfortable. However, you can pay a premium to get better hotels than the other people you're travelling with.

I was thinking I'd not pay anything like that much to sleep in a bathroom.
