Taylor Swift calls Phoebe Bridgers 'one of my favorite artists in the world.' Here's everything you should know about the indie-rock singer opening for Swift's Era's Tour.

  • Indie-rock musician Phoebe Bridgers is set to open for seven nights of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.
  • The Eras Tour kicked off on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona, but Bridgers will join it in May.
  • The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is a solo artist and a member of the supergroup boygenius.

Phoebe Bridgers started playing guitar at the age of 13.

Born in Pasadena, California, on August 17, 1994, Phoebe Bridgers took an interest in music at a young age. Although her mother encouraged her to play piano, she took to guitar instead.

"I f---ing hated being forced to do something," Bridgers told The New Yorker in 2020. "Reading music felt like math homework. Guitar was my rebellion."

At 15, Bridgers joined Sloppy Jane, a punk band comprised of all women. A few years later, she was accepted to the Berklee College of Music, but she opted to live and perform in Los Angeles instead.

She released her first album, "Stranger in the Alps," in 2017 but it was her second album, "Punisher" in 2020, that really made waves.

"Punisher" earned her Grammy nominations for best new artist and best alternative music album in 2021. For her song "Kyoto," a track on "Punisher," Bridgers was nominated for best rock performance and best rock song.

In 2020, Pitchfork called the album "marvelous," while Rolling Stone said it was "visionary."

Insider's Callie Ahlgrim named "Punisher" as one of the best albums of 2020 , calling it "an exquisite tapestry of emotions."

"The album feels like a best friend holding your hand, and the most cleansing heart-to-heart you've ever had on their bedroom floor," Ahlgrim wrote.

Before releasing "Punisher," which propelled her into mainstream fame, Bridgers also made music as a member of boygenius.

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

Bridgers formed boygenius in 2018 with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, who are solo artists, as well.

The band released its first EP, "boygenius," in 2018 after Bridgers, Baker, and Dacus recorded it over four days, according to The New York Times . In 2020, the band released demos on Bandcamp in an effort to raise money for three nonprofit organizations.

In January 2023, boygenius announced its upcoming studio album, releasing three songs along with the announcement. The upcoming album, "The Record," is set to be released on March 31, 2023.

The three women frequently discuss their close friendships with one another in interviews.

"We're obsessed with each other. I like myself better around them," Bridgers told Rolling Stone in January 2023.

Bridgers' biggest inspiration is the late artist Elliott Smith.

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

It's no secret that Bridgers idolizes Elliott Smith, the singer-songwriter who died in 2003.

In 2020, Bridgers told NPR , "If someone doesn't like [Smith's] music, I actually feel like I'm not going to agree with them about anything. It informs everything I like."

Bridgers' music is frequently compared to that of Smith. In the same NPR profile, journalist Lindsay Zoladz commented on Smith's and Bridgers' similarly "evocative lyrics, melodious murmurs and stark, surprising bursts of bleak humor."

She's known for her signature skeleton costume.

In the music video for one of her most popular and critically acclaimed songs, "Kyoto," Bridgers wears a skeleton suit. She often wears variations to red-carpet events and performances.

At the Grammys in 2021, when she was nominated for four awards, she wore a Thom Brown outfit featuring a crystal-and-pearl skeleton.

She told E! News , "I wear a skeleton costume all the time, but one of the reasons I do is because I saw this Thom Browne dress forever ago and thought it was so cool. And I asked for it. I basically stole it."

Bridgers wore an abstract version of the skeleton suit when she performed on "Saturday Night Live" in 2021 , in a memorable performance which culminated in her smashing her guitar.

Bridgers dated Oscar-nominated actor Paul Mescal from 2021 to late 2022.

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

Bridgers and Mescal were first acquainted via Twitter. In 2020, Bridgers posted a tweet in admiration of Mescal's performance in Hulu's "Normal People," and Mescal responded. The two made their first public appearance as a couple at the LACMA Art+Film Gala in November 2021. They made other red-carpet appearances together, including at the 2022 Met Gala.

They collaborated in their creative work — Mescal was featured in the music video for Bridger's song "Savior Complex" and made a cameo in her music video for "Sidelines."

In late 2022, reports of a potential split began to circulate, although Mescal — who was nominated for best actor at the 2023 Oscars for his role in "Aftersun" — declined to comment about it during a February 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Bridgers has also not commented on the breakup reports, but she has been spotted with comedian, actor, and director Bo Burnham on multiple occasions, sparking rumors that the two are romantically linked.

She collaborated with Taylor Swift on a song on Swift's remastered version of her 2012 album, "Red."

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

Swift's 2021 rerelease of "Red," renamed "Red (Taylor's Version)," contained a handful of never-before-released songs in addition to remastered tracks from the 2012 album. Swift reached out to Bridgers to feature her on "Nothing New,"  Insider's Callie Ahlgrim previously reported .

Swift told Seth Meyers that she recalled sending Bridgers a "very long text" when she asked her to sing a verse on the track.

"With Phoebe, I reached out and I sent her this song called 'Nothing New,' which I wrote when I was 22," Swift said. "I sent it to Phoebe and said, 'It would mean the world to me if you would do this as a duet.'"

Bridgers replied, "I've been waiting for this text my entire life."

In 2021, Bridgers spoke to Billboard about the experience recording "Nothing New" and her admiration of Swift.

"I just am so excited to have people take it at face value the day that it comes out because I got teary recording it," she said. "I just couldn't be more excited."

Bridgers has recently collaborated with other artists as well, including MUNA and SZA .

Bridgers is set to open for seven shows on Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, which kicks off March 17. Bridgers will join her in May.

In an Instagram post on November 1, 2022, Bridgers subtly announced that she'd be accompanying Swift on her highly anticipated Eras Tour for seven nights. She posted a slideshow that contained two photos of herself and Swift, and a graphic promoting the tour.

The two singer-songwriters are vocal admirers of one another . In January 2023, Bridgers told Rolling Stone, "[Swift is] such a deep, wise human being, and has not sacrificed fun at all. She validates those boundaries that people have tried to take from her for her whole life."

To Seth Meyers , Swift referred to Bridgers as "one of my favorite artists in the world."

The Eras Tour started on Friday, March 17 in Glendale, Arizona, with Paramore opening for Swift.

Bridgers will accompany Swift at concerts in Nashville, Philadelphia, Foxborough in Massachusetts, and East Rutherford in New Jersey. Those shows start May 5 and wrap up May 28.

Other artists, including Haim, Girl in Red, and Gracie Abrams, are set to open for Swift for the rest of her tour.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ Tour Is Packed With Queer Guest Artists

By Abby Monteil

Taylor Swifts ‘Eras Tour Is Packed With Queer Guest Artists

Taylor Swift is finally going back on tour, and she’s bringing a truckload of queer artists along with her.

This morning, the Midnights singer-songwriter announced the “Eras Tour,” which is set to kick off in March 2023.

“I’m enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!),” Swift shared on social media. “I cannot WAIT to see you. It’s been a long time coming.”

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

The first leg of the tour will feature 27 shows at stadiums across the U.S. To help kick things off, Swift has enlisted nine opening acts, and — spoiler alert — they’re gay catnip.

Phoebe Bridgers herself is opening for several shows on the East Coast and in Nashville, which I can only hope will lead to Swift donning one of Bridgers’ famous skeleton costumes herself. Last year, the duo collaborated on Swift’s Red vault track “Nothing New,” where Bridgers miraculously got to sing an entire verse — a rarity for many of Swift’s female collaborators (sorry, Lana).

Instagram content

Also opening for Swift? Norwegian singer girl in red — a.k.a. Marie Ringheim — whose very discography has become a viral queer calling card . Swift gave her 2021 album If I Could Make It Go Quiet a special shout-out last year , and adding Ringheim to The Eras Tour proves, once and for all, that Swift does…you know… listen to girl in red . As one fan pointed out , the duo are even playing Minneapolis during the city’s pride weekend.

Girl in Red

Ringheim took to her Instagram Stories to celebrate the announcement. “I’m supporting THE QUEEN on this tour 😭❤️❤️❤️,” she wrote. “Insane 😭❤️thank you @taylorswift.”

Meanwhile, queer band MUNA will join Swift for three shows in summer 2023, where I demand that she sing Bridgers’ beloved “Silk Chiffon” verse as soon as humanly possible. The group subtly hinted at their connection to Swift in October, when they included a cover of her song “August” on their Live At Electric Lady EP.

Naturally, MUNA, who recently lit up the internet by covering the Lindsay Lohan-fronted band from Freaky Friday , quickly took to social media share their excitement over the news, sharing an image of themselves emblazoned over the Midnights album cover with the caption, “Gay for Tay.”

Other musicians opening for Swift include Paramore, HAIM, Gracie Abrams, Beabadoobee, Gayle, and Owenn. Verified presale for Swift’s The Eras Tour is currently open on Ticketmaster , with tickets officially going on sale on November 15.

It remains to be seen what kind of Battle Royale getting tickets will be, but in the meantime, queer Swifties? We’re eating.

Phoebe Bridgers has been opening for Taylor Swift during the Eras Tour . On Saturday night at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, Bridgers brought out the 1975’s Matthew Healy (who is currently sharing tabloid headlines with Swift). Healy accompanied Bridgers on guitar; Bridgers’ Boygenius bandmate Julien Baker also appeared. Watch it happen here .

That same weekend, Swift brought out Bridgers for a performance of “Nothing New.” Swift also announced Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , the latest installment of her series of re-recorded albums. It’s out July 7 and will feature six previously unreleased songs. Bridgers and Healy have performed together live multiple times prior to this weekend, including at Jack Antonoff’s annual Ally Coalition Talent Show in December.

Swift will embark on a nationwide stadium tour in 2023 with MUNA, Gayle, beabadoobee, and more supporting acts.

Taylor Swift is bringing an army of musicians with her for her next national tour.

The record-shattering Midnights singer-songwriter announced a massive stadium concert series on Tuesday featuring a revolving door of nine supporting acts, including Paramore , Beabadoobee , Phoebe Bridgers , Girl in Red, MUNA, HAIM , GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

"I'm enchanted to announce my next tour," the 32-year-old posted on Instagram, announcing the initial 27-date leg of the tour. "[It's] a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!). The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can! Feeling like the luckiest person alive because I get to take these brilliant artists out on tour with me."

On Friday, a few days after the initial announcement, Swift added 8 more dates. "UM. Looks like I'll get to see more of your beautiful faces than previously expected… we're adding 8 shows to the tour," she tweeted alongside a photo of the newly updated schedule.

The Eras tour marks Swift's first time on the road since her 2018 global tour in support of her No. 1 album Reputation , which also featured a notable roster of one-off guest appearances including Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Sugarland, Hayley Kiyoko, and more.

Midnights , Swift's 10th studio album of original material, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, moving nearly 1.6 million units across its first week of release. She also notched 10 songs simultaneously in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 song rankings chart following the album's release, making her the first artist in history to do so.

Phoebe Bridgers and Taylor Swift perform their duet "Nothing New" on the Eras Tour.

Taylor’s Eras Tour Set List Gets An Extra Song When Phoebe Bridgers Is The Opener

Wait, this is so major!

In case you thought 44 songs just wasn’t enough , Taylor Swift upped her Eras Tour set list to 45 songs, but only on a few specific dates. And those dates are the ones where Phoebe Bridgers is on the lineup as an opener. Bridgers finally made her Eras debut on May 5 at the Nashville concerts, and not only did she bring out some exciting surprise guests during her own set, she also returned to the stage during Swift’s set to perform their duet “Nothing New.”

Bridgers pulled out all the stops for her Eras Tour opening set list, which includes her own solo hits as well as beloved songs from her supergroup boygenius . Prior to her Eras debut on May 5, fans speculated about whether Bridgers would bring her fellow boygenius band members on stage at all, and thankfully, she did! Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus joined her to perform the hit boygenius single “Not Strong Enough,” as well as “I Know the End.” It’s unclear if Baker and Dacus will be able to join Bridgers for all her Eras dates (Bridgers is scheduled to open every show in May), but hopefully they’ll pop up again from time to time.

The boygenius segment was the icing on the cake of Bridgers’ opening set. Before that, she performed her solo hits like “Kyoto” and “Motion Sickness.” Check out the set list below:

It should be noted that Bridgers’ set list does fluctuate a bit. On her second night in Nashville, Bridgers added “DVD Menu” to the list , and replaced “Not Strong Enough” with “Cool About It.”

And the surprises didn’t stop there. Bridgers became the first Eras Tour opener to join Swift on stage during the main concert, where they performed their duet from Red (Taylor’s Version) , “Nothing New.” After they repeated the performance the next night, fans confirmed that Swift had added “Nothing New” to her set list for the dates when Bridgers was present.

So if you’re one of the lucky ticketholders who’s attending the Eras Tour before Bridgers’ final show as an opener on May 28, you can look forward to a very special extra song.

Phoebe Bridgers In Concert

Phoebe Bridgers' moody, angelic mix of folk and indie-pop disguises her youthful spirit — which makes her music and onstage presence every bit more charming. The Los Angeles, California-based singer-songwriter has long known her fate as a musician. She first picked up the guitar at age 12 and soon began honing her chops at the Americana music series in Los Angeles, called The Grand Ole Echo. She would even busk at the Pasadena farmers' market to earn some extra cash. As a teenager, she attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she studied vocal jazz and connected with other promising artists and musicians.

After graduating, she spent much of her time around L.A., performing solo and playing bass in the punk band Sloppy Jane. Soon, she began landing roles on various commercials, starting with an iPhone ad in which she covers Pixies' "Gigantic." But it wasn't until she met indie star Ryan Adams, as well as veteran producer Tony Berg, that her solo career began to fully form. In 2015, Adams would produce her debut EP Killer and release it on his own Pax-Am label. The following year, she went on tour supporting artists like Julien Baker and the Violent Femmes.

By 2017, she signed to the indie record label Dead Oceans, who released her much-anticipated debut album, Stranger in the Alps, in September. The album, featuring one of her biggest influences — Conor Oberst on "Would You Rather" — came with rave reviews, and led her on her first headlining tour around the U.S. in early 2018.

Later that year, she'd focus on some key collaborations. Bridgers appeared on the soundtrack for the second season of the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why alongside Lord Huron on a remake of his track "The Night We Met." She also joined up with former tourmate Julien Baker and fellow singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus to form indie rock group boygenius. The band came together to write and record their debut self-titled EP, all in under a week. This quickly led to a well-received tour featuring all three artists, co-headlined by Bridgers and Baker with Dacus supporting. In early 2019, she unveiled a new group (and debut album) from Better Oblivion Community Center, a collaborative duo with Oberst.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is a cultural phenomenon. With unprecedented demand, smashed world records and a staggering 44-song setlist, the Eras tour spans Swift’s entire discography, chronicling all the various eras and albums of the Midnights singer’s career.

From the mad scramble to buy tickets that crashed Ticketmaster’s website to guest appearances from the likes of Taylor Lautner, Joey King, Haim and Phoebe Bridgers, Swift brings new surprises for her fans at each stop.

As the first round of Swift’s Eras Tour approaches its last dates in Los Angeles, The Hollywood Reporter has compiled the biggest highlights from the tour so far.

Fans Crash Ticketmaster Presale

A ticketmaster website

Before the Eras Tour even began, it was making history. During the rush to buy tickets after five-plus years of waiting, the retailer site Ticketmaster crumbled, with many experiencing multiple hour-long waits and the majority of fans not being able to secure tickets. According to Ticketmaster, the demand was unprecedented and led to no tickets being available as a part of the general sale. Ticket prices soared above $1,000 for the cheapest seats on the resale market, leading to congressional hearings that included more than a few tongue-in-cheek Swift references.

"22" Hat Giveaways — Selena Gomez’s Sister, Kobe Bryant’s Daughter

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (L) and NBA player Kobe Bryant speak onstage during The 1989 World Tour Live In Los Angeles at Staples Center on August 21, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

It’s a nightly ritual at the Eras Tour for Swift to gift her black fedora hat to one lucky fan in the audience during her performance of Red hit song “22.” At an Arlington, Texas, show on April 1, Swift stopped to say hello to Selena Gomez’s 9-year-old sister, Gracie, who was in attendance with the Only Murders in the Building star, to exchange the hat for a friendship bracelet. Similarly, during her Thursday night show at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, the Eras performer shared a sweet moment with Kobe Bryant’s daughter Bianka Bryant. The pair hugged as Swift placed the hat on Bianka’s head.

In 2015, the late Lakers legend joined Swift onstage at the then-Staples Center during her 1989 tour, surprising her with a championship-style banner in honor of her record-breaking 16 sold-out shows at the arena.

'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)' Announced in Nashville

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

At her first Nashville stop on May 5, Swift treated fans to the highly anticipated announcement that album rerelease Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) would drop on July 7. As expected, the artist teased the announcement days before the show, posting a purple heart emoji on social media. Before launching into Speak Now track and surprise song of the night “Sparks Fly,” Swift debuted a first look at the album cover on the big screens of Nissan Stadium, while purple lights lit up the Nashville’s Cumberland River bridge.

“You know how I love to plan things, and how I love to surprise you with the things I plan,” she said onstage. “It’s my love language with you — I plot, I scheme, I plan and I get to tell you about it.”

It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7 (just in time for July 9th, iykyk 😆) I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. Haim Takes the Stage for "No Body, No Crime"

Este Haim, Taylor Swift, Danielle Haim and Alana Haim perform onstage during Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour at Levi's Stadium on July 28, 2023 in Santa Clara, California.

Swift’s real-life besties from sibling trio band Haim joined the Speak Now singer onstage in Seattle on July 22. Together, the friends performed their Evermore collab “No Body, No Crime,” marking the first live performance of the song on the Eras Tour. With the girl band announced as one of the opening acts for the tour, fans expected Haim to appear at least once to perform alongside Swift.

Ice Spice Collabs With Swift on "Karma" Remix

Ice Spice and Taylor Swift perform onstage during "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at MetLife Stadium on May 27, 2023 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

On the day she released the Midnights album extended version The Til Dawn Edition , Swift brought out one of her newest collaborators Ice Spice onto New Jersey’s Metlife Stadium stage. The rapper, who features on a remix edition of Midnights hit song “Karma,” joined Swift onstage to perform her verse and close out the show for three nights in a row.

Phoebe Bridgers Performs Vault Track "Nothing New" While Opening for Swift

Phoebe Bridgers and Taylor Swift perform onstage during night two of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour at Nissan Stadium on May 06, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Across the Nashville, Philadelphia, Massachusetts and New Jersey legs of the tour, Phoebe Bridgers joined Swift as not only an opening act, but also a stage partner. With acoustic guitars in hand, Bridgers and Swift took to the Eras stage multiple times to perform their fan-favorite vault track from Red (Taylor’s Version) , “Nothing New.” On Bridgers’ final night on the tour at MetLife, the friends shared heartfelt goodbyes on stage. “You are my hero,” Bridgers told Swift onstage, with Swift responding: “Thank you for being the friend that you’ve been to me.”

“Long Live” Is Added to the Set List

Taylor Swift performs onstage during "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at SoFi Stadium on August 03, 2023 in Inglewood, California.

After the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , fan-favorite song “Long Live” off the album entered the set list. Presumably, until that point Swift had previously avoided performing too many songs off of Speak Now so as not to promote any tracks owned by Scooter Braun.

"I Can See You" Video Drops With Special Guest Appearances: Taylor Lautner, Presley Cash and Joey King

(L-R) Presley Cash, Taylor Swift, Joey King and Taylor Lautner speak onstage for night one of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on July 07, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The hit single off Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was the new “From the Vault” track “I Can See You,” which became a radio hit and charted on Billboard. To announce the music video she directed for the track, Swift brought out the video’s stars, including ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner along with Presley Cash and Joey King, on stage at the Eras Tour in Kansas City. Lautner performed a backflip, a nod to his scene with Swift in the 2010 film Valentine’s Day. “He and his wife have become some of my closest friends, and it’s very convenient because we all share the same first name,” said Swift onstage during the video announcement.

Two Surprise Songs at Each Show

Taylor Swift The Eras Tour

Every single stop of the tour, Taylor Swift has performed two surprise songs that are unique to that tour stop, only repeating a handful of tracks from amongst her vast discography. Fans have tracked the songs online via Twitter — even maintaining complex spread sheets — hoping to get one of their favorites that isn’t a part of the main set list as a “surprise song.” Highlights have included “Hits Different,” “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” “Our Song,” “Tim McGraw” and many more.

Taylor Swift Fans Cause an Earthquake

Guests attend the "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at SoFi Stadium on August 03, 2023 in Inglewood, California.

At the Eras Tour stop in Seattle, fans partied so hard they caused the equivalent of a small earthquake . This rivaled Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch’s “Beast Quake” from 2011, thought Swift came out as the clear winner when measured on the Richter scale.

Taylor Swift Announces ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’

Taylor Swift performs onstage of "Taylor Swift The Eras Tour"

On the last night of the first leg of her U.S. tour, Swift revealed that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will release Oct. 27. Throughout her performance at sixth night of Eras Tour shows at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, the singer teased the announcement by wearing several blue outfits to celebrate the occasion. Following the announcement, fans were treated to 1989 track “New Romantics.” The rerecorded version will feature 21 songs, including five previously unreleased songs from The Vault as described on Swift’s website.

“Surprise!! 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you,” Swift wrote on social media. “The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th. To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVORITE re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!”

How is Taylor Swift going to pull this off?

Her new “Eras” tour, promising a journey “through all the musical eras of my career,” was announced Tuesday (Nov. 1) and will visit U.S. stadiums beginning in March 2023. But to consider what this tour’s setlist might resemble is like trying to understand the true size of our galaxy — there’s just so much … of everything.

There are synth-pop bangers, the acoustic slow burns, the twangy throwbacks, the fan-worshiped deep cuts — not to mention the fact that Swift has dropped six No. 1 albums totaling 86 new or previously unreleased songs since her last roadshow, the Reputation Tour, in 2018.

Where does one even begin to cobble together an ideal setlist that can represent her prolific catalog and celebrate her latest world-beater in Midnights ? Right here, that’s where!

Below is our dream setlist, which visits all 10 of her studio albums, keeps past tour tendencies in mind, and still makes the spectacle somewhat manageable. By our count, she could blast through all these hits and medleys in about two-and-a-half hours — a reasonable show length, considering it’s her first trek in nearly five years.

This set would surely bring incredible highs and torrents of tears — what more could a Swiftie want? Until then, we’ll keep dreaming!

ACT I: ‘Midnights’

After weeks, months and years of anticipation, the stadium lights finally drop. The crowd shrieks in elation and relief, shaking the concrete. A montage begins to play on the massive video screens of Swift through the years, from the country-pop teen years all the way through smoldering Midnights . She winks at the camera and the video screen cuts to black, it’s silent for a moment, and then we hear “It’s me. Hi.” The crowd erupts again. But “Anti-Hero” doesn’t begin. Instead the screens begin to part, light purple smoke pouring through, and the bass kicks in …

“Lavender Haze”

In line with her 1989 and Reputation tours, Swift launches into her marathon set with the bumping opening track of her most recent album. Instantly, it’s a spectacle of maximalist pop fury: A dozen dancers, in full choreo, with Swift at the center, swaying her hips, donning some sort of purple and black sequined one-piece. The heavy bassline quakes the stadium as 55,000 LED wristbands flash lavender, keeping time. A fever pitch is reached immediately, and many fans burst into tears. It’s finally happening. She’s here.

"Vigilante Shit"

She’s hunting early, out for blood. The bass drops again, the crowd is a volcano. Swift struts her troupe of dancers down onto the single runway, which bisects the stadium floor and leads to an empty B-stage (more on that later). At the center of the runway, Swift is all business; stone face, steely glances. The runway is lit crimson red. “Lately I’ve been dressing for revenge,” she croons, the crowd howling in chorus.

The mood lightens, she returns to the main stage for this new banger, complete with kitschy visuals on the screen — her three kitties appear, of course, for the “Karma is a cat” line. A backup dancer dons a feline mask, Swift pats him on the head.

"Bejeweled"

Still in glittery pure-pop bliss, Swift tears through the tune, rocking a jewel-studded cane or hat (or both!), and on the line “I can still make the whole place shimmer,” a wave of flickering, gem-reflective light flows through the LED wristbands. Technology!

"Anti-Hero"

The first act ends with the already beloved Midnights single, with leagues of similarly self-loathing fans absolutely belting, “It’s Me. Hi. I’m the problem, it’s me.” The moment is massive, cathartic, and fuels an influx of therapy bookings as soon as the concert finishes.

ACT II: ‘Fearless’ / ‘Taylor Swift’

As Swift trots off the change costumes, a video interlude plays, ethereal at first, then with some flickers of twang  — echoes of “Fifteen,” “White Horse” and “Teardrops on My Guitar.” Fans slowly realize what’s next. She’s taking them all the way back.

“Hey Stephen” / “The Way I Loved You” / “Fearless” / “Mr. Perfectly Fine”

A big, fun, full-band mash-up of uptempo Fearless tunes kicks off the mini-set. Guitarist, bassist, drummer and violinist all trot out, reminiscent of Swift’s earlier tours (the dancers take a break backstage). Swift is donning some sort of knee-length dress. It finishes with “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” the hella-hooky vault track included last year on the Fearless (Taylor’s Version) , nodding to the album’s past and present.

“Tim McGraw” / “Picture to Burn” / “Our Song” / “Should’ve Said No”

The Swiftie lifers — the ones who still wear cowboy boots to her shows and bemoaned the lack of self-titled stuff on her last two tours — get their moment in the spotlight during this big, bright mash-up. Swift thanks the fans who’ve been with her from the VERY beginning. The pop stans don’t know these songs well and run to the bathroom. The line is too long. They snag another hard seltzer.

“You Belong With Me” / “Love Story”

She reprises the mash-up of her two monster Fearless hits as she did on the Reputation tour. It played great then, it’s even better now. Swift is bouncing around, solo on the center ramp, the band jamming hard behind her. She strolls back to center stage and descends into the floor, as fans who’ve been with her for 15 years consider their own mortality.

ACT III: ‘Reputation’

Another interlude, but this time it’s just a black screen and a low, faceless hum. The crowd doesn’t know what to make of it, until the back of Swift’s head appears on the screen. She turns around, brings her hand to her cheek. There’s a slithering snake ring on her finger. “Are you ready for it?” she asks the camera. The screen cuts to black, columns of fire blast on the main stage, and Swift rises from the smoke …

“Look What You Made Me Do”

No towering inflatable snake this time, but the dauntless lead single off Reputation still goes hard. The dancers are back, matching Swift’s black and gold get-up, like a goddess of war. The deafening bass vibrates the hair on 110,000 arms.

“I Did Something Bad” / “Don’t Blame Me”

The thrilling medley sears with more bursts of flame and full choreography. The dancers lift Swift up and carry her around for a while, giving her feet a break from the knee-high heeled boots.

“King of My Heart” / “Delicate” (piano versions)

The show slows down for a few minutes as Swift plinks through a solo version of “King of My Heart” on the black baby grand piano that’s appeared at center stage. She plays a verse and chorus before a quick transition into the more swelling “Delicate.” With the heavy synth pulled off Swift’s vocal, the track achieves newfound vulnerability. The platform on which the piano sits lifts about 20 feet high for a small spectacle and then descends back into the stage, Swift still sitting there.

ACT IV: ‘Speak Now’

At this point, the crowd understands the game: Every time Swift leaves the stage, a new album era is soon to follow. But which one is next? The answer comes soon as the stage lights up — in purple. The interlude hits “Dear John” and “Haunted,” the heavy strings cutting off to begin …

“Sparks Fly” / “Mine” / “Long Live”

Swift is back out with the band, glamorous in a purple mini-dress, guitar in her hand for this epic medley, which crests on the triumphant chorus of “Long Live,” the crowd delirious with joy, belting along. Somewhere high above the stadium, a pilot asks his co-pilot, “Hey, did you hear that?”

“Mean” (rock version) / “Better than Revenge”

The teeth come out. No banjo but electric guitar, as “Mean” gets a pop-punk treatment that feeds right into “Better than Revenge,” which is practically a Paramore song. Everyone thinks of their ex and shouts along.

"Enchanted"

Swift jams the full, original version, chugging on her six-string, down on the center ramp — but look, the ramp lifts into a mechanical arm that carries Swift around the stadium, singing her heart out as fans in the cheap seats get a closer look. Luckily, “Enchanted” is almost six minutes long, giving the contraption enough time to swing all the way around.

ACT V: ‘Folklore’ / ‘Evermore’

All night, fans have glanced back at the B-stage at the opposite end of the stadium floor, wondering when it would be used. Now is the time, as an extended interlude of Swift ambling through grayscale scenes of pine trees and meadows plays on the screen. Pieces of “The 1,” “Invisible String,” “Champagne Problems” and “No Body, No Crime” can be heard.

“Cardigan” / “August” / “Betty”

The stage platform lifts into view, revealing a cozy, lamp-lit auxiliary stage with a three-piece band: Drummer, pianist and Swift on guitar, hair pulled into a loose braid, wearing a chic jacket. Did it just get colder in here? They dutifully play the trio of tunes bound to the Folklore main characters of Betty, Inez and James, and fans who spent most of quarantine trying to unpack the twisted story lines squeal with glee.

“Exile” (with Justin Vernon)

It seems like it’s just the pianist and Swift at the old-fashioned microphone for this beast of a duet, but then, trotting up the side stairs that lead to the small stage, it’s none other than Justin Vernon of Bon Iver to repay the favor Swift did him, emerging to perform “Exile” at his London show last month. Will this happen every tour night? No, but this is OUR dream setlist, and on this night, it happens!

Vernon leaves and Swift rekindles some of the magic of her 2021 Grammy Awards performance, merging the campfire jaunt of “Willow” with stadium swell. The vibes are many levels beyond immaculate.

ACT IV: ‘1989’

While the crowd has been lulled into a state of tranquil folk-pop euphoria, the energy begins to build again, especially as people realize which albums have yet to be touched — and all the smashes they contain. Suddenly, the drum claps and bright synth of “Welcome to New York” start to pulse from the PA, giving way to “Out of the Woods.” The party is back on.

"Blank Space"

Swift returns to the main stage, rocking a shining silver leotard and red lipstick, and as soon as “Blank Space” kicks in, the crowd collectively loses its mind. The encompassing human noise of 55,000 fans screaming “Nice to meet you, where you been” sets off local seismographs and some fans’ cell phones alert them they are experiencing an earthquake. Worth it.

All swagger and glitz, Swift walks the runway with her dancers. It doesn’t quite match her 2015 gig at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Heidi Klum and the Women’s U.S. Soccer Team trailed behind her, but it’s still epic.

"Wildest Dreams"

Unlimited vibes. Bottomless aesthetic. BOGO joy and rapture.

"Shake It Off"

Swift is dancing, the dancers are dancing, the crowd is dancing, the concession workers are dancing, the dutiful dads in the audience — who know this song from their niece’s wedding — are dancing. Pure, goofy glee.

ACT VII: ‘Lover’

Swift leaves again, the stadium goes dark again. No one wants to leave but people do begin to wonder which era will close the show — the most dramatic one, or the one that never got its due. But then they see it, it starts in the pit and rises through the stadium. The LED wristbands … they’ve all turned pink.

"Cruel Summer"

Remember in summer 2020, when all anyone wanted was a “Cruel Summer” music video, and then Folklore happened, rerouting the course of Swift’s career? Well, the long-awaited bop of all bops is finally performed live — Swift is in pink and magenta, hair pulled into a ponytail — and the pure pop stans revel in the monster bridge: “He looks up grinning like a devil!”

"You Need To Calm Down"

The heavy thump continues, as Swift pulls out a version of the choreography she did at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2019, her dancers scantily clad. The visuals on screen are rainbow camp; pride flags are seen waving around the stands. Swift is handed one from a fan in the pit and drapes it around her. Massive cheers.

“Death by a Thousand Cuts” (acoustic)

Guitar, microphone, solo on the center ramp. Maybe the finest piece of songwriting on all of Lover gets its moment, as the tongue-twisting (but effing amazing) bridge separates the diehard fans from the posers.

“Lover” (acoustic)

Still solo, still on the center ramp, it’s a sweeping, tender moment. She dedicates the song to all the lovers in the building, or anyone who’s ever loved anyone, or something. Couples hug, forgetting the argument in traffic on the way in.

ACT VIII: ‘Red’

It’s late. Fans are so overwhelmed with emotion they can barely tweet. But everyone does the math and realizes which is the last era standing. Oh god, it’s — everything goes red. Pieces of the title track, of “22,” of “I Knew You Were Trouble” play through the interlude. They are ready to be hurt again.

“State of Grace”

The live band is back, the drums kick in and it’s on — bounding pop-rock ecstasy. Swift’s final costume? You guessed it, all red, as she wails through the surging album opener.

“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”

Swift slings on an electric guitar, as she has in past tour versions of this smash — her first-ever No. 1 Hot 100 single — and tears apart the rock-heavy version. As fans cheer and sing in unison on the final chorus, their wristbands blinking red, torrents of broken-heart-shaped confetti are sprayed from cannons, covering the floor and lower bowl. Some people think the show’s over — the dads motion to the stairs, gotta beat the traffic! — but Swift never leaves the stage. Everyone knows what still has to happen.

“Nothing New” (with Phoebe Bridgers)

But first, a bridge to melancholia — featuring opener and empress of emo Phoebe Bridgers! To commemorate the huge re-release of Red in fall 2021,  Swift and Bridgers stand beside each other to perform this slow-burning vault track, which is a brilliant duet and a glorious, bleeding bummer.

“All Too Well” (10 Minute Version)

Swift hugs Bridgers before she exits and then walks back to the center ramp, where she’s handed a guitar for the last time. Single spotlight, she speaks into the microphone, thanking everyone for coming, for waiting, for sticking with her all this time. And she urges them to sing along once more as she begins to strum. A few cell phone lights appear, then more and soon the stadium is a night sky. Fans try to sing quietly so they can still hear Taylor, but as the song builds to “maybe we got lost in translation,” no one can hold it any longer. Unbridled, feral bedlam. Open weeping. Puddles of tears forming on the stadium floor. Everyone is emotionally ruined, but overjoyed at all they’ve witnessed this night. It’s truly been a journey through the eras, a banner cross-section of Swift’s luminous career so far, and all they have left to wonder is, “What’s next?”

Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' Is Going To Japan, Australia, Europe & More

The singer announced more international tour dates for the Eras Tour .

Taylor Swift is back on tour for the first time in five years. Since her last tour, she’s put out a whopping four albums, each with its own mythology, color scheme and unique sound to mark whatever era of her life — both creatively and musically — she’s currently in. When it comes to Taylor, there’s something for everyone: There’s the longing cottage-core of folklore and evermore , the self-hating, depressive late nights of Midnights , the dreamy rosy-eyed glasses of Lover . Swift is now revisiting these eras on her latest Eras Tour which, after an extensive 2023 U.S., Mexico, and South America run, will finally make its way overseas in 2024 to Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe.

In true Taylor form, she’s bringing her friends along for the ride — who encompass a wide swatch of generations and music tastes as varied as Swift’s own catalogue. Swift is supported by Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN on the tour’s 2023 U.S. leg. (Yes, you have permission to scream!) While Sabrina Carpenter will take over for Swift’s shows in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and a few 2024 dates in Australia and Singapore. Paramore will return as openers for her 2024 European shows.

The Eras Tour kicked off March 18, 2023 in Glendale, AZ, the same place her “Reputation” tour began in 2018, with the U.S. leg wrapping in L.A.’s SoFi Stadium on August 9 — the same place she was set to open her 2020 Lover Fest mini-tour. Following shows in Mexico and South America, she embarks on her third leg of international dates starting February 2024.

Who is opening on the Eras Tour ?

Paramore is opening for Swift across all the European dates of the 2024 international leg of the Eras Tour — that’s a whopping 48 shows.

Sabrina Carpenter , meanwhile, will be the sole opener for the entirety of the Mexico and South America leg of the tour, and on select dates in the 2024 international leg.

For the U.S. leg, Swift had a different opener (or two!) depending on the city and which include entirely women bands. Many of whom are artists she’s collaborated with before and who make music you can cry, or scream to: Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: All the Surprise Guests So Far

Fans at these shows had some good karma

Taylor Swift 's Eras tour is straight out of our wildest dreams.

On her 60-stop tour , the 12-time Grammy Award winner has not disappointed — from the 10-studio-album setlist, to the outfits, to the surprise guests. So far, Swift has brought out six artists to perform on the stage with her, and fans have been enchanted by each and every one.

Already looking ahead, fans have been taking their guesses at who else might show up onstage — Swift has songs that include Keith Urban (who already saw a show but did not perform), Lana Del Rey , Bon Iver, The Chicks , Kendrick Lamar , Zayn Malik and Ed Sheeran , just to name a few. When Haim opens the tour later this summer, many are hoping they will join Swift to sing "No Body No Crime," which they collaborated on for Evermore.

Here is all you need to know about the Eras Tour surprise guests so far.

Marcus Mumford

Just a week after kicking off her tour, Marcus Mumford — the Mumford & Sons frontman — joined Swift to sing "Cowboy Like Me" at her March 25 Las Vegas show. On the song in the Evermore album, Mumford sings only harmonies, but attendees of the concert got to hear him sing a verse. Swift recorded several songs from Evermore in Mumford's home recording studio during the height of the pandemic, and he joined in on the track after stopping in to listen one day.

In a TikTok post after the show, Mumford shared the duo’s performance, captioning it, "you're a bandit like me @taylorswift."

Aaron Dessner

Three Eras Tour stops have included Aaron Dessner . The first was the April 14 show in Tampa, where Dessner and Swift sang "The Great War" — also one of the two surprise songs of the night. He came back for a second night in a row to perform “Mad Woman” from Folklore. A month later, Dessner joined Swift again at one of her Nashville shows on May 7, where they sang  "Would've, Could've, Should've" in the pouring rain.

Phoebe Bridgers

Indie singer Phoebe Bridgers opened for some shows in the Eras tour — and on her first night as an opener, Bridgers returned to the stage to sing “Nothing New” with Swift, from Red (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault) . For the rest of the May shows, the song held a permanent spot on the setlist, so Bridgers joined Swift for shows in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Jack Antonoff

Kevin Mazur/TAS23/Getty

Any Swiftie knows that Jack Antonoff plays a major role in the making of many of Swift's songs. During her first New Jersey show on May 26, Fans were elated when she brought Antonoff out to sing Reputation hit "Getaway Car" and play their guitars, as the making of the song was documented in Swift's 2020 Miss Americana documentary.

On May 27, the day Swift announced the release of a remix version of "Karma" featuring Ice Spice , the rapper made an appearance at the end of the New Jersey show to perform the song alongside Swift. Ice Spice ended up sticking around, joining Swift for all three of her New Jersey concerts.

Maren Morris

Chicago fans were in for a treat when Swift brought one of her "favorite artists," as she said that night, Maren Morris , onstage on June 3. For the first time, the duo performed their song, "You All Over Me," from Fearless (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault) as they strummed their guitars.

Morris took to TikTok after the show to share the performance, writing "Thank you so much for having me @Taylor Swift . Your generosity to me in these last 7 years is insurmountable and I love you so."

She added on Instagram , "We finally got to play 'You All Over Me' and I won't ever be shutting up about it."

Phoebe Bridgers was on hand Monday night to present Taylor Swift with the 2023 Innovators Award at the iHeart Radio Music Awards. Before Swift took to the stage to accept the award, Bridgers delivered a touching speech about the impact that the “Anti-Hero” singer has had on her own career as a singer/songwriter.

Bridgers is opening for Swift on the Eras tour  starting in May for a total of 12 stops. She is also releasing a new boygenius album,  The Record , with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, later this week, featuring a song called “We’re In Love,” which references Swfit’s re-recorded “This Love.”

Give You The Moon Charm, Yellow Gold

As they hugged, Swift showed Bridgers that she was wearing her necklace. The moonstone charm is described as "a moon to have and to wear." According to the jewelry brand, "on the back, lyrics from Moon Song are engraved on a crescent moon in Phoebe's handwriting: ' I’d give you the moon' — itty bitty like a secret message."

In addition, Catbird announced in tandem with the collaboration with Bridgers , "the Catbird Giving Fund is proud to make a donation of $25,000 to The National Center for Transgender Equality in support of their critical work in policy change to advance transgender equality."

As Bridgers came on stage to perform "Nothing New," from Red (Taylor's Version ), she told Swift, " You are my hero." Swift told her, "Thank you for being the friend that you’ve been to me. This is really something we could’ve written in a note to each other: 'Thank you for being a friend that I will never ever stop confiding in and trusting. I love you with everything.' But yeah, this is the last time we’re gonna get to sing together on this tour."

The charm will be available to preorder just through this Sunday, June 4, so act fast if you want one!

Coachella 2024 Surprise Guests: Will Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, or Robert Pattinson Perform?

By Author Dina Sartore-Bodo at Apr 11, 2024 • Category Coachella

The lineup for the 2024 show is stacked, but what’s a good Coachella without surprise guests?!

Destiny’s Child with Beyonce, the Tupac hologram – honestly, the surprises are bigger than the fashion at Coachella!

This year, there are so many huge acts taking the stage, and so many eyeballs watching around the world, not just the thousands poised to show up in the valley.

So, who might show up for the big show? We have some solid suggestions.

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

Coachella Surprise Guests: Which Acts Might Invite Famous Collaborators To Join Them?

Before we can talk about any special performances, we have to talk about the lineup . Whether you live for rap or contemporary pop or even very specific 90’s female-led rock bands, Coachella has something for everyone.

Tyler, the Creator; Sabrina Carpenter; Doja Cat; Ice Spice; Deftones, Renee Rapp; Young Miko – this show is beyond fire!

On Friday, the highlight of the Main stage will be Lana Del Rey, while on Saturday, every millennial everywhere will be jamming out to the reunion of No Doubt.

But it’s not just these huge names you’ll have to look out; it’s the famous friends who may show up to support, or even perform with them.

Stars like…

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

Taylor Swift At Coachella?!

While Taylor Swift does deserve to continue her well earned break from performing the Eras tour, there’s no denying that if ever there was a time for her to be a surprise guest at Coachella, 2024 would be the year.

Three of her closest musical friends and collaborators at taking the stage: Lana Del Rey, Ice Spice and Jack Antonoff, who is performing with his band, Bleachers. All of them showed up for her and performed as special guests on her Eras tour. Time to return the favor!

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton photo

Blake Shelton To Surprise Gwen Stefani?

No doubt the highlight of Coachella 2024 is, well, the reunion of Gwen Stefani and No Doubt. But will Gwen and the boys let her hubby Blake Shelton join them onstage?

While the pair have several duets they could perform, it is hard to argue that their country collabs have a place in the Coachella set list. Then again Shelton teased No Doubt’s Coachella set when Gwen joined him onstage at his show at Acrisure Arena the month before, so maybe he’s pumped about it?

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

How About… Robert Pattinson???

This is – ok, it’s a long shot and maybe with a dash of too much wishful thinking. (What can we say, we’re still Team Edward!) Robert just welcomed his first child with partner Suki Waterhouse, who incidentally will be performing both weekends of Coachella. A mom getting right back to work after birth?! HERO!

Now, while she and Robert are both singers, it must be admitted that they have never collaborated together on a song. But what a place to debut it, wouldn’t you agree?

phoebe bridgers tour taylor swift

Megan Thee Stallion Needs To Be At Coachella, Full Stop

If nothing else happens at Coachella, we hope this does. Stallion has already performed at Coachella, but she recently collaborated with Reneé Rapp on her Mean Girls single “Not My Fault.” She even joined Rapp onstage to sing the jam on Saturday Night Live earlier this year. Another surprise performance wouldn’t be totally out of the realm of possibility, right?

<p>Another iconic Swift revenge track, "No Body, No Crime," is, in my mind, one of her best in the storytelling genre. <p>Just as the sun will always rise in the East, Swift will always write a good breakup song—which was proven all the way back on her debut namesake album. 41) "Should've Said No"

Just as the sun will always rise in the East, Swift will always write a good breakup song—which was proven all the way back on her debut namesake album. "Should've Said No" is the O.G. of Swift's genre of petty revenge tracks that absolutely slap.

Best lyric: "You shouldn't be beggin' for forgiveness at my feet / You should've said, 'No' / Baby, and you might still have me"

<p> Listen, <em>1989</em> undeniably includes some of Taylor's biggest hits—from "Blank Space" to "Shake It Off" and "Wildest Dreams," which is why this bonus track often gets lost in the shuffle. But it shouldn't, according to <em>Cosmopolitan</em> Senior Editor Lauren Alexis Fisher. "New Romantics is such an underrated bop and absolutely should've earned a spot on the album, not just as a bonus song," she says. "To me, it romanticizes being young and riding the waves of dating, love, and heartbreak with your friends." </p><p><em><strong>Best lyrics: </strong></em><em>“Heartbreak is the national anthem / We sing it proudly / We’re too busy dancing / To get knocked off our feet / Baby, we're the new romantics / The best people in life are free.” </em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/2vPMoMDXxu9uX1igWZmXSG?si=5961423531e140ff">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-BcH7KowGE">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>A quintessential Swift breakup song from the <em>Red</em> era. It's truly impossible to listen to this song and not want to belt out the chorus. 38) "You Belong with Me (Taylor's Version)"

Would I say "You Belong with Me" is Swift's most standout lyrical work as a songwriter? No, but it cemented her place in pop culture history as one of her first huge mainstream hits, and will remain a go-to karaoke fave forever.

Best lyric: "Dreaming of the day when you wake up and find / That what you're looking for has been here the whole time"

<p>To quote <em>Cosmopolitan</em>'s Associate Shopping Editor <a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/author/257791/daisy-maldonado/">Daisy Maldonado</a>, "If you don't include 'The Way I Loved You,' I will personally be fighting." Points were made; this track off Swift's <em>Fearless</em> album was a fave of fans at the time of the album's release for its ~passionate~ lyrics and storytelling, which helped cement Swift's signature writing style early on. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: "</strong>He can't see the smile I'm faking / And my heart's not breaking' / Cause I'm not feeling anything at all / And you were wild and crazy / Just so frustrating, intoxicating, complicated / Got away by some mistake." </em> </p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/22bPsP2jCgbLUvh82U0Z3M?si=ee89ee8bb28c42bd">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlexmDDSDZ0">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>"Is it cool that I said all that? / Is it chill that you're in my head?" Yes, Taylor, it sure is. Lowkey the best song from <em>Reputation</em>, don't fight me!</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCXGJQYZ9JA">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

35) "Delicate"

As successful, cool, and talented as Swift is, one thing she is not anymore is relatable. She's a literal billionaire . And yet, there's just enough self-doubt and emotional rawness peeking through in "Delicate" to convey the same dating insecurities many of us have felt at one point or another.

Best lyric: "My reputation's never been worse, so / You must like me for me"

<p>A guitar-driven ballad that was later released from the vault, "Nothing New" gives fans a raw look at Swift's fears as a young artist, aging into adulthood in an industry that values youth—especially in women—above all else. And it features Phoebe Bridgers, making it an instant sad girl music classic. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"I know someday I'm gonna meet her, it's a fever dream / The kind of radiance you only have at 17 / She'll know the way, and then she'll say she got the map from me / I'll say I'm happy for her, then I'll cry myself to sleep."</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/01K4zKU104LyJ8gMb7227B?si=1329e1234bcc4235">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3fWCRvz5JA">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p> "Getaway Car" features some of the best storytelling on <em>Reputation</em>. In the upbeat pop song, Swift's lyrics are self-aware and revealing about the tangled dating webs she was highly criticized for during this time. Not only did it show some cheeky growth for her, it did so in major bop form. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"It was the best of times, the worst of crimes / I struck a match and blew your mind / But I didn't mean it and you didn't see it / The ties were black, the lies were white." </em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/0VE4kBnHJUgtMf0dy6DRmW?si=95da98c10b3d4406">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhPLQVlUiNQ">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>"Enchanted" perfectly captures the magic of those first meeting butterflies, and the joy of fantasizing a relationship with someone without the pressure of reality. <p>School isn't just about learning in the classrooms. It's also about all the excitement and the indescribable feelings you have making memories with your friends. 28) "Long Live (Taylor's Version)"

One of Swift's greatest strengths as a songwriter is her ability to pinpoint a specific moment in time—whether a fleeting feeling, relationship, or life experience—and make it immortal in song form. Nowhere is that more evident than on Speak Now 's final track, "Long Live."

Best lyric: "Long live all the mountains we moved / I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you"

<p> OK, I'm going to say something controversial: I like the original "Better Than Revenge" better than Taylor's Version. Am I a bad feminist? Maybe. But there's just something so delightfully petty and angry about the original lyric, "She's better known for the things that she does on the mattress." Swift understandably replaced the slut-shamey line for the song's re-release, which is great! We love <em>growth!</em> But there was also something kinda great about knowing that Swift wasn't always perfect in her writing (or dating outlook). But honestly, both versions slap, and the re-record illustrates Taylor's growth as an artist and a woman. </p><p> <em><strong>Best lyric: </strong></em><em>"I'm just another thing for you to roll your eyes at honey / You might have him, but I'll always get the last word" </em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/0NwGC0v03ysCYINtg6ns58?si=74917b64bb4d477b">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH70M5OeS4o">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>We all know <em>Lover</em> is largely about Swift's 6-year relationship with Joe Alwyn, and ever since they broke up, all I can think of is how she swore in this song that if they weren't together, she'd "never walk Cornelia Street again." 😢 As one of the album's standouts, this one explores the magical (and very fragile) feelings of a new relationship in such a way that you'll feel like you fell in love on Cornelia Street, too. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"Barefoot in the kitchen / Sacred new beginnings / That became my religion"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/12M5uqx0ZuwkpLp5rJim1a?si=d11d5ce174f541a9">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VikHHWrgb4Y">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

23) "Mirrorball"

Swift's songs about deep insecurities always stand out, and "Mirrorball" is the perfect example. With its soft, dreamy vibes, it sounds like it should be a love song, but it's actually more of a melancholic look at how self-sabotaging people-pleasers can be in relationships.

Best lyric: "I can change everything about me to fit in / You are not like the regulars / The masquerade revelers / Drunk as they watch my shattered edges glisten"

<p>The genre of female pop stars (aka Demi Lovato and Swift) who grow up and realize their past relationships with older men might have been more inappropriate or negative than they thought will always be 10/10 in my book. "Would've, Could've, Should've," a track from the 3 am edition of <em>Midnights</em>, reflects on a past traumatic relationship through heavy religious undertones and imagery illustrating the loss of innocence and youth. Not only do the lyrics and symbolism show off Swift's skill as a writer, but the song also proves she is the master of writing epic bridges. </p><p><strong><em>Best lyric</em></strong><em><strong>: </strong>"If clarity's in death, then why won't this die? / Years of tearing down our banners, you and I / Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts / Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/3pUa0ZxdSeaJXm0EIydD3F?si=9fb247bb55524366">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liMZZW_fWxs">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>"Don't Blame Me" is one of the best songs off of <em>Reputation</em>, and is one of Swift's better vocal performances. I SAID WHAT I SAID. Best lyric: "Echoes (echoes) of your name inside my mind / Halo, hiding my obsession / I once was poison ivy, but now I'm your daisy"

<p>Some of the lyrics in this song closely reflect a speech that <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR4_oJYgpBM">Taylor Swift gave to the NYU class of 2022</a>, making it a perfect graduation song. And these lyrics are so inspiring, like the lines, "Take the moment and taste it / You've got no reason to be afraid / You're on your own, kid / Yeah, you can face this."</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Gbg6Z70J7E">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

20) "You're On Your Own, Kid"

"You're On Your Own, Kid" isn't a song about love or revenge, but rather a coming-of-age about the pain of growing up and how hard it can be to depend on yourself as an adult. From yearning for young love to sacrificing yourself in the name of your career, the song showcases Swift's maturing, which we've all watched play out on a very public stage. Most importantly, it realizes and acknowledges the one person who has got her to where she is today: herself, making it stand out not only on Midnights but also in Swift's entire catalog.

<p><em>Cosmopolitan's</em> Senior Astrology Editor <a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/author/224864/erika-w-smith/">Erika W. Smith</a> loves that "Ivy" is one of Swift's most literary tracks. <p>With maturity comes complexity, and that shows in Swift's writing, but just because her more recent songs are more layered doesn't mean her older, more innocent songs like "Fearless" are any less magical. 16) "'Tis the Damn Season"

Swift takes a more subtle storytelling approach in "'Tis the Damn Season," which is probably why it's one of her most beloved. It's just vague enough for you to imagine yourself living it, and the romanticizing of the road less traveled is something we can all relate to every now and again. Plus, being able to make a hometown hookup sound like the most romantic "the one who got away" love story imaginable is a superpower.

Best lyric: "Time flies, messy as the mud on your truck tires / Now I'm missing your smile, hear me out / We could just ride around /And the road not taken looks real good now"

<p>Swift's <em>Lover</em> era was full of upbeat, lovey-dovey songs, which makes the slower, bittersweet "False God," a song about sticking it out through the rough times, stand out<em>.</em></p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"They say the road gets hard and you get lost when you're led by blind faith"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/5hQSXkFgbxjZo9uCwd11so?si=609990ecf86f4d2e">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acQXa5ArHIk">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>I would consider "Forever & Always" one of the first Swift breakup bangers, and it's still just as fun to listen to now as it was when it was released in 2008. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"Cause it rains in your bedroom / Everything is wrong / It rains when you're here and it rains when you're gone" </em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/1msEuwSBneBKpVCZQcFTsU?si=d0a6c560d6334a98">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/T-41vMWQTUA?si=pnSjTC6_rtfeapIl">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>"Bigger Than the Whole Sky" might be one of Swift's most heartbreaking songs. It explores grief and loss through devastatingly poetic lyrics that immediately struck a chord with fans when it was released as a bonus track on <em>Midnights</em>. Though the singer never commented on the inspiration or meaning behind the song, many fans found comfort in its message while processing the loss of loved ones as well as their own miscarriage experiences. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"Every single thing I touch becomes sick with sadness"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/0BiqmkasE5FdrChwKfVp8X?si=bd9f26b0b2e840cc">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/l8Tps3PITx4?si=FE8004vvUJTk1hlC">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>"Back to December" is one of the few positive post-breakup songs in Swift's catalog. The slow track is believed to be about her short-lived relationship with <a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/celebs/a46127256/taylor-lautner-taylor-swift-breakup-details/">Taylor Lautner</a>, and is a refreshingly vulnerable song in which Swift sings about her regrets and faults that caused the relationship to end. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"</em><em>And then the cold came, the dark days / When fear crept into my mind / You gave me all your love and all I gave you was goodbye"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/79uDOz0zuuWS7HWxzMmTa2?si=0bd85b9f2da3417a">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc2Z-OX9wnc">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>"August" captures every adult's nostalgia for an adolescent love, whether they had one or not. Featured as part of the teenage love triangle trilogy Swift created on <em>Folklore</em> (along with "Cardigan" and "Betty"), this song is laced with the fleeting magic of a summer love. Case in point? It served as the perfect song to the second season of <em>The Summer I Turned Pretty, </em>which led to its even viral TikTok moment last year. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"Back when we were still changin' for the better / Wanting was enough / For me, it was enough / To live for the hope of it all"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/3hUxzQpSfdDqwM3ZTFQY0K?si=ee537b66adf94257">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/nn_0zPAfyo8?si=-AKj5i2Fk3acDc1_">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>Swift's greatest skill is her ability to validate the experience of young women in song form, and she put that skill to great use on "Dear John," a song about what it's like to be played by an older man. She manages to balance scathing burns with emotional rawness flawlessly from beginning to end.</p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"</em><em>All the girls that you've run dry have tired lifeless eyes / Cause you burned them out / But I took your matches before fire could catch me"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/1zU8j1x3yi9xalMF96pzKp?si=86b86384e095448b">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-FYySSy0rM">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p><a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/music/a34027173/taylor-swift-betty-lyrics-explained/">"Betty"</a> stands out in a robust catalog of work because it puts a twist on Swift's trademark storytelling. Instead of singing from her own perspective, she takes on the POV of a teenage boy struggling to apologize to his ex, Betty. It serves as part of a teenage love story trilogy on <em>Folklore </em>(also including songs "August" and "Cardigan"), the first time Swift experimented with this writing style—and it resulted in some of her best work. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"I'm only 17, I don't know anything / But I know I miss you"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/5kI4eCXXzyuIUXjQra0Cxi?si=511e2664b3934514">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TAPqXkZW_I">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

Best lyric: "I'm only 17, I don't know anything / But I know I miss you"

<p>When this song dropped we were all "asking God if he could play it again." "Our Song" was on Taylor's debut album, <em>Taylor Swift</em>. Swift wrote the song about her boyfriend at the time, Drew Dunlop, for her high school's talent show freshman year. "Our Song" held the number one spot on the Hot Country Songs charts for a whopping six weeks. I think it's safe to say this song is the best song ever written for a high school talent show...</p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/Jb2stN7kH28">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

8) "Our Song"

"Our Song" was the third single off Swift's first album, and while it's definitely extremely country, it's also one of her first songs to cross over into the pop world. At the time, I was nowhere near being a country girlie, but this song made its way to me anyway. And I've loved it ever since.

Best lyric: "He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel / The other on my heart"

<p>I love when Taylor Swift goes scorched earth (see: "Better Than Revenge" and "Vigilante Shit"), but there's something even more satisfying about when she captures heaviness and heartbreak in a devastatingly beautiful way. That's the case with "My Tears Ricochet," a haunting song about betrayal that features some of Swift's greatest metaphors and symbolism. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"You know I didn't want to have to haunt you / But what a ghostly scene / You wear the same jewels that I gave you / As you bury me" </em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/1MgV7FIyNxIG7WzMRJV5HC?si=5c4bb952ce814d11">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/OWbDJFtHl3w?si=NZyRL3a-ZrQtflnw">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>Since <em>Lover</em>, Taylor Swift has moved away from teasing which famous ex-boyfriend inspired her newest hit, and that's probably for the best. That said, her unabashed use of "Style" (aka, her ex Harry Style's literal last name) will always be a force for good that brought us this absolute bop. </p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"And I should just tell you to leave, 'cause I / Know exactly where it leads, but I / Watch us go 'round and 'round each time"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/1hjRhYpWyqDpPahmSlUTlc?si=d3574e8a27f040b2">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/2JgvVfOfoWI?si=QyBVkmjORQ1U59MQ">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>Swift entered into a new era once again with the release of <em>Folklore</em> in 2020, and while the album includes many standouts, the most haunting of those is <a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/music/a33414905/taylor-swifts-exile-lyrics-explained/">"Exile (feat. <p>Although Taylor's Versions have since taken over the world, Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer" is a whole vibe. This bridge was made to be sung at the top of your lungs.</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic8j13piAhQ">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

4) "Cruel Summer"

Fans b-e-g-g-e-d Swift to release "Cruel Summer" as a single when Lover first dropped in 2019, and they were right. It's basically your favorite early 2000s teen movie in song form. Proving its power? Four years (!!) after its release, "Cruel Summer" finally had its day and became Swift's biggest and longest-running radio hit single ever.

Best lyric: "And I screamed for whatever it's worth / 'I love you,' ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?"

<p>Taylor Swift officially entered her pop era with "Shake It Off," the debut single off <em>1989</em>, but "Blank Space" is the song that really sold it. The production, the music video, and, most importantly, the lyrics, which poke fun at her heartbreaker reputation, still hold up today. 10/10 perfect pop hit.</p><p><em><strong>Best lyric: </strong>"'Cause darling, I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream"</em></p><p><a class="body-btn-link" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/45wMBGri1PORPjM9PwFfrS?si=632fb6359f8a4686">STREAM NOW</a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gir8BEqAutk">See the original post on Youtube</a></p>

<p>Teenage girls are used to having their experiences belittled by popular media, which is why Taylor Swift's "Fifteen" stands out as remarkable. <p>The number one spot on this list should come as a surprise to no one. "All Too Well" has been a fan-favorite since its release on <em>Red </em>in 2012. The gutting lyrics that many of us can relate to all! too! well! (sry). The vulnerability. The BRIDGE. It's undoubtedly some of Swift's best lyrical work and storytelling. But then she decided to <em>really</em> spoil us with "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" as a vault track for <em>Red (Taylor's Version), </em>managing to somehow top the original. Taylor Swift Album ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Release Date, Track List And More

8 April 2024, 11:49

Taylor Swift announced 'Tortured Poets Department'

By Capital FM

When is Taylor Swift’s new album coming out, what does 'Tortured Poets Department’ mean? And what songs will be on the track list? Read on for all the details so far.

Listen to this article

Just when we thought Taylor Swift was taking a break from announcing surprise albums as she works on her last two re-release projects and performs around the world on The Eras Tour , she had our jaws on the floor when she revealed at the 2024 Grammys she’s been working on a new record for the past two years.

As she accepted the award for Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘ Midnights ’ the 14-time Grammy winner announced her brand new album before rushing off stage to post a picture of the cover on her social media channels.

She said during her speech: “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years. Which is that, my brand new album comes out April 19th. It’s called ‘Tortured Poets Department’.”

Since Taylor dropped the track list – which you can view below – fans are convinced the new songs are about her ex Joe Alwyn.

Taylor, whose boyfriend Travis Kelce wasn't able to join her at the event, also posted the album cover, a black and white picture of herself laying in white bedding in a black two-piece. Since the first announcement Taylor has revealed four editions of the album - all with bonus tracks.

When is 'Tortured Poets Department' coming out and what songs are on the track list? We've got the latest below...

Taylor Swift announced a new album at the 2024 Grammys

Is 'Tortured Poets Department' a new album?

Yes! 'Tortured Poets Department' is a brand new album from Taylor and completely unexpected by fans, who thought 'Reputation – Taylor's Version' would be her next release as she continues working on her re-recordings project.

However, she's secretly been working on the 2024 album for two years! We can only applaud Miss Swift for being this good at surprises.

What is a 'Tortured Poets Department', what does it mean?

Given the enigma that is Taylor's brain, it's not known just yet where the inspiration for 'Tortured Poets Department' came from, however, the name is kind of similar to the 1989 movie Dead Poets Society starring Robin Williams, a poetry teacher, who encourages his students to go against the status quo.

'Tortured Poets Department' could also be a reference to her ex Joe Alwyn who's said in the past that he was in a group chat called 'Tortured Man Club' with Paul Mescal, who dated Taylor's good friend Phoebe Bridgers, and Andrew Scott. Taylor was in a relationship with Joe for six years before they split at the start of 2023.

This is all just speculation however; Taylor will no doubt share more about the meaning behind the album's name in the upcoming months.

When is ‘Tortured Poets Department’ coming out?

Taylor’s new album ‘Tortured Poets Department’ is coming out on Friday 19th April 2024.

While she didn’t give Swifties much more information than that, she did share a picture of her handwriting on a lyric sheet. More on that below!

In one of her announcement posts she also shared what seems to be a verse from one of her new songs:

And so I enter into evidence

My tarnished coat of arms

My muses, acquired like bruises

My talismans and charms

The tick, tick, tick of love bombs

My veins of pitch black ink.

She signed it of: “All’s fair in love and poetry… Sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department.”

Taylor has announced four special editions of the new album; The Manuscript', 'The Bolter', 'The Albatross' and 'The Black Dog'.

Who did Taylor Swift work with on 'Tortured Poets Department'?

Taylor has collaborated with Post Malone and Florence and the Machine on her new album; Florence features on 'Florida' while Post Malone is featured on 'Fortnight'.

Life-long collaborator and best friend Jack Antonoff is no doubt involved in the album as he works with her on almost every one of her creations.

She even gave Jack a shout out as she accepted Album of the Year for ‘Midnights’ at the Grammys.

“I get to work with one of my best friends, who is not only one of my best friends but is also a once in a generation producer, that’s Jack Antonoff. I’m so lucky.”

She also gave a shout out to her engineers Laura Cisk and Serban Ghenea and good friend Lana Del Rey who she worked with on ‘Snow On The Beach’ and who was up on the stage with her too.
