Just had the pleasure of spending 2 great days with Rob. Besides being so knowledgeable about everything in Saint Augustine, he was fabulous with our kids. This was the second year that we have used you. We had Lisa last year and Rob this year, and they were both outstanding everything runs so smooth From pick up on day, one to drop off on day two. I would highly recommend ancient city tours.

Pulled back the sheet and out fell a used, blood stained tampon. Rooms are sanitized alright! Absolutely disgusting. Never again will we stay here.

Photo of Carla L.

Charlie was the bomb. Maybe it was more entertaining because we met him during the day when we wandered into the Hospital and he was hamming it up? I don't know but he sure knows all the good stories. This is the only tour that takes you into the Spanish Military Hospital at night and as you can see of my review of that place, it can get pretty spooky. St. A is reported to be one of the most haunted cities in the USA. Now, I am a non believer but for some reason absolutely love haunted tours, houses, cemeteries.. etc. This is a very good tour and the guides know what they are talking about. Remember it is a WALKING tour so be prepared.

Photo of Wayne H.

We came to St. Augustine during Nights of Lights, which is a busier than usual time of year. As a result, our dinner took longer than expected and we were going to be late to the tour. They kindly moved us to a later time, which allowed us to enjoy dinner and still do make it for Ghost Encounters. The guide was very entertaining and everyone there was super friendly and helpful.

Photo of Bobby M.

The owner does not take the safety of the customers into consideration. I will not give her my hard earned money if she isn't concerned with the welfare of her customers, especially children.

Photo of Julia A.

I didn't take the tour because the customer service was horrible. Make sure to read the fine print on any coupons you bring. Wait, no, they don't even mention when they're not accepting them so don't bother buying coupons for this.

Photo of Jason B.

I have always wanted to do a ghost tour while visiting an old city such as New Orleans or Savannah but just never seemed to get around to it. On my most recent trip to St. Augustine my girlfriend treated us to our first tour. I figured why not do it in the oldest city in the USA! Tour guide was pretty good and gave us some pretty cool haunts to think about. I am not sure what I was wanting more but just left anticipating something else. Guess you can only do so much. All in all I had a good time but I think that it is geared a little bit more towards kids. Decent price of only $12.00/person so wasn't too upset about that at all.

Photo of Alice M.

We did the ghost tour with Dion. I highly recommend it!

Photo of Natalie S.

This was a great tour. Jim, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the area and was fun to talk with and listen to. It was a large group overall and at times it was a little hard to hear over the traffic, but it was a great and fun tour to be on.

Photo of Naty K.

If you're a history buff, you may want to skip this ghost tour, only because all the information that is provided by the ghost tour guide is fictitious. If you're looking to only be entertained, go ahead, but the origin of expressions like "dead ringer" being related to buried alive as they claim is incorrect (see http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2014/05/origin-phrase-dead-ringer/), and "saved by the bell" has nothing to do with death or coffins, but boxing, and such stories as the one about an "exploding bishop" who was in a casket and whose remains exploded all over the churchgoers have no basis in truth. In conclusion, take everything at face value, the way you would a joke or a rumor. Unless you want to be proven foolish, don't repeat what you hear as "facts". See this ghost tour as a way of seeing perhaps some sights you may not have otherwise seen at night, safely, while in the company of others and while getting some exercise (unlike other ghost tours that transport you in a hearse or bus, this one is 100% walking so keep that in mind if it's a particularly hot, muggy night).

There’s no better place than this to experience old-world Thai charm; it’s an absolute must-visit for everyone.

Our comprehensive guide tells you everything you need to know – how to get there, ticket prices, dress code, and everything you should know before visiting.

It’s the ONLY guide you’ll need, we promise.

  • What is Ancient City, Bangkok?
  • How to get there?
  • What are the opening hours?
  • Where to buy tickets?
  • What is the entrance fee?
  • What is the dress code?
  • Things to do/see/experience
  • How to get around in the city?

1. What is Ancient City, Bangkok?

The largest open-air museum in the world. That’s right! This “Thailand-shaped” park – Ancient City or Muang Boran – is spread over 200 acres in Bangkok.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by UROOJ HUSSAIN (@beautiception)

Opened in 1972, this place is the brainchild of an eccentric Thai millionaire, Lek Viriyaphan, whose passion is evident throughout the park.

You’ll see jaw-dropping miniatures of famous buildings from all over the country, including ancient temples and exquisite palaces.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by ⠀⠀ s ᴀ ᴍ s ʏ (@someseee)

The attention to detail and the craftsmanship can only be witnessed to be believed. You get to experience various bygone eras captured beautifully in a single place.

2. How to Get to Muang Boran?

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Louis Pung (@louispungphotography)

Hire a taxi: Apps like Uber and Grab are convenient and popular in Bangkok. It costs around THB350 to get from the city centre to Ancient City.

MRT & Songthaew: Hopping on the MRT (BTS Skytrain) is perfect for a budget trip. Ride to the last stop, Kheha BTS Station. Then take Exit no. 1 or 3, and look for the bright songthaew (36). Get on it, tell the driver your destination, and enjoy the ride! Guess how much this costs? Just about THB10!

Bus: Get on bus 511 from the city centre to Pai Na Fam Chon Khe. Thi is only 6km from Ancient City. You can book a taxi or take a songthaew from the main road.

Address: 296, 1 Sukhumvit Road, Bang Pu Mai, Mueang Samut Prakan District, Samut Prakan 10280, Thailand ( map )

3. What Are the Opening Hours?

Timings : Open Daily, 9am to 6pm

4. Ancient City, Bangkok, Ticket Prices

*Ticket prices may vary. Click here for updated prices.

5. Where Can You Buy Tickets?

Ancient city and erawan museum tickets.

You can either buy tickets via the official website of Ancient City, Bangkok, through online providers, or buy them on the spot at the entrance gate.

6. Is There a Dress Code?

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Wu (@seany109)

However, it is recommended that you wear modest and respectful clothing covering shoulders and knees – something you’d expect in any place of cultural/religious significance.

Also, ensure you have comfortable footwear on, as Ancient City is massive and requires a lot of walking.

7. What Can You Do/See/Experience Here?

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Kimmy握握手|泰國旅遊・美食|Thailand Travel🥥 (@kmystagram_)

Stunning Architecture

Apart from a cultural experience that’s one of a kind, the architectural marvels will amaze you. Ancient City is known for meticulously created and detailed replicas crafted using traditional materials and building techniques. The intricate carvings and colourful decorations reflect the architectural diversity across Thailand.

Natural Beauty

The 200-acre area has pristine landscapes, including gardens, lakes, and sprawling green spaces. The serene setting makes it perfect for strolls and great photo ops.

Great Learning Experience for Children

Unlike a monotonous, one-dimensional classroom session that can often get boring for children, Ancient City can offer exciting lessons in history, culture, art, and nature. The narratives and stories related to each landmark are bound to captivate young visitors.

From time to time, Muang Boran organises cultural events that allow visitors to engage in Thai culture and learn traditional arts.

Several dance performances, traditional martial arts demonstrations, and arts and crafts workshops are organised.

For example, their 2022 light and sound show was extremely popular and is an excellent example of the events you can expect if you visit at the right time.

(BONUS) Samut Prakan: Erawan Museum & More

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Anastasia (@airmoar)

9. Erawan Museum

You can’t afford to miss this beauty. The iconic three-headed elephant display takes your breath away, but that’s only the beginning!

The splendid three-storey structure transports you into an exotic world of antiquities and collections of precious ancient religious objects and artefacts.

It isn’t surprising to know that the collector behind these was Lek Viriyaphant, the same brilliant mind behind Ancient City, Bangkok.

Inside the Erawan Museum, you’ll spot a remarkable, rich variety of beautifully crafted sculptures that capture the myriad facets of Thai culture. The museum is a pure visual feast for art and culture aficionados.

Address : JHHQ+CH, Tambon Bang Muang Mai, Mueang Samut Prakan District, Samut Prakan 10270, Thailand ( map )

10. Wat Asokaram

Located just 6km from the city, this temple is unique for those seeking meditation and a spiritual connection.

The lush surroundings, calming atmosphere and sense of tranquillity this place offers will instantly transport you to a zen mode.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Napat | Bangkok Videographer (@thevisualbackpacker)

One of the main attractions here is the Phra Thutangkha Chedi, a stunning group of 13 chedis (or pagodas) that embody the 13 duties of a monk during their spiritual journey.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Fan Club Thailand UK & Ireland (@fanclubthailand)

The Vihara Wisutthithamrangsi, where the revered Phra Achan Lee Thammawaro remains are enshrined, is also popular among tourists.

This enchanting place is where you can see the canalside lifestyle of the vibrant Thai-Mon community, and is one of the best floating markets in Bangkok .

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gino Wang (@ginoboya)

This floating market gem lets you dive deep into local traditions and flavours. The assortment of local, handcrafted products (like handwoven baskets and hats), famous traditional cuisine (boat noodles and seafood snacks, for instance), abundant homegrown fruits, and much more will leave you wanting more.

Address: 98 Bang Nam Phueng, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan 10130, Thailand ( map )
