Our journey began in May 2021, when our international consortium named the Global Partnership for Ethiopia, comprising  Safaricom Plc ,  Vodafone Group ,  Vodacom Group ,  Sumitomo Corporation  and  British International Investment  (formerly known as CDC Group) was announced as the winning applicant for a license to operate telecommunication services in Ethiopia.

We were granted a nationwide full-service Unified Telecommunications Service License on 9 July 2021 and were officially registered as Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia Plc in July 2021. We are building strong foundations through win-win partnerships to provide services that will transform Ethiopian Lives. Safaricom Ethiopia currently invites applicants for the following vacant positions.

Position 1: Regional Security Officer

Education and Experienc e:

  • Degree in Security Management/Administration or any technical or business discipline.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in corporate security with adequate exposure in leadership appointments.
  • Service in the discipline forces preferably not below the rank of “captain” from the Military or it’s equivalent in the police service will be an added advantage .
  • General knowledge of Ethiopian Laws and Government Regulations pertaining to law enforcement
  • Knowledge of local language is desirable.
  • Location: Mekelle, Tigray

Position 2: Regional Sales Manager (DFS)

  • Marketing, Sales, Business administration or Economics Degree, or relevant degree with over 6 years’ experience in sales, territory management qualifications.
  • MBA qualification will be an added advantage with high computer literacy
  • Sales or distribution strategy experience in fast moving consumer goods is an added advantage

Position 3: Regional Liaison officer

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science/ law/Relevant field
  • At least 1 year and half working experience in a relationship management role in government or a corporate entity.

Position 4: Enterprise Regional Sales Manager

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business-related field.
  • Postgraduate certification in Sales & Marketing will be an added advantage.
  • Team player, strong influence, and relationship management
  • Ability to engage and influence at all levels of management, internally and externally.
  • Has worked in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and must have good problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed presentation skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (articulate) coupled with good listening and critical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to create and develop efficient processes.
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge of local language is desirable

Position 5: Regional Maintenance Specialist

  • Relevant degree: Electrical Engineering Degree

Position 6: Regional Manager Network Operations

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering and related field of study

  • Understanding of the Voice & Data Core Networks
  • Human Resources Management

Position 7: Regional Network Quality Specialist

  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Knowlege of local language is desirable

Position 8: Regional Specialist Property Negotiator

  • Relevant 3 year Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering/Construction Management/Quantity Surveying/Architecture/Town Planning/Building Science (BSc, BTech, S4, N6, T3) (Essential)
  • GSM experience (Desirable)
  • Access arrangements (on a daily basis)
  • TX Dish Approvals

Position 9: Regional Transmission Specialist

  • 3yr Degree/National Diploma related to engineering field of study
  • 5 years’ work experience in telecoms industry specific to Transmission implementation planning and Transmission Systems
  • Good knowledge & experience in the Microwave, Fiber, Router, Synchronisation and Switches technologies specific to Tellabs/Coriant, Nera, SIAE, Hughes, Radwin, Symmetricom, Nokia, Alcatel Lucent and application
  • Good knowledge and experience in performance management and planning tools in Transmission for Safaricom Business and Consumer Business, GSM, UMTS and LTE technologies and systems
  • TDM, ATM, PDH, SDH, C/W/DWDM, IP/MPLS, MEF, TX architecture, IP & TX Protocols knowledge and application
  • Project Management skills & Advanced Excel knowledge
  • IP Expert in Layer 1 to 4 of OSI stack and Standards in IEEE, ITU, MEF, Optical radio frequency
  • Analytical thinker & solution oriented Resilient planning & implementation

Position 10: Area Sales Manager

  • First Degree preferable in Business Studies e.g. Bcom degree – marketing option
  • At least 3 Years’ experience in trade execution preferably within FMCG Environment of which 1 Year must be in a sales managerial Position

Position 11: Regional Sales Manager

  • A degree in Humanities or Social Sciences from a recognized university.
  • 7 to 10 years hands on work experience in a Customer service environment preferably in a customer interfacing position.
  • Must have had at least 3 years Supervisory/Team leadership experience preferably in customer care.
  • Excellent knowledge of The Company products and services.
  • Mentoring/coaching skills/experience.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Trainer of trainers’ skills.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good report writing skills coupled with excellent presentation skills.

Safaricom Ethiopia’s 2G, 3G and 4G mobile services are available in 11 cities from today, including the capital and the country’s second largest city Dire Dawa. The company plans to launch services in a total of 25 cities by April 2023 to meet the 25% population coverage obligation in its licence. Position 1: Corporate Account Manager

Job Requirements

Marketing, Sales, Business administration or Economics Degree, or relevant degree with over 4 years’ experience in sales, marketing, customer/account management.

Post graduate certification in Sales & Marketing, business administration will be an added advantage.

Exposure in Service and/or Customer management for major corporate clients, commercially savvy with a detailed understanding of the technologies the company is selling and issues that typically arise

Industry certifications would be an added advantage (ITIL Foundation, MCP/MCSE, CCNA etc.)

Understanding of English and local language both written and spoken.

Literacy in basic computer applications such as MS word, excel, outlook, etc.

Ability to cope with pressure from customers while delivering quality service.

Ability to accurately perform cash transactions.

Position 10: PMO lead – Technology

Job Requirements:

  • 8+ years of Project Management experience in a Technology, Banking, or Telco organization.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced Technology environment.
  • 4+ years of People leadership experience
  • Proven track record in delivering projects from the requirements analysis phase through the implementation cycle and being able to provide performance measures of success.
  • Ability to excel in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Experience and a proven track record of success in creating change within teams to increase project delivery competency.
  • Understanding of project dependencies and risk mitigation in multi-discipline projects
  • Conversant and usage of key project management software e.g. MS Project,

We are pleased to announce an internship  opportunity  for the  year 2023  in the  Commercial, Business Development, Enterprise Business, Financial Services, Internal Audit, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Human Resources & Technology Divisions .

Our internship program runs quarterly i.e. From  April to June, July to September, October to December and January to March 2024 . Call for applications will only happen once in the financial year allowing you to plan which quarter of the year you are available for. This internship will seek to expose you to the various teams within your assigned divisions e.g., Sales support, Product Management, Commercial Management, Segment Marketing, HR, Finance, Procurement, Audit, Corporate Sales, Innovation, and technology.

As an intern, you will be exposed to ‘on job training’ and exposure to our experienced leaders throughout the program. Through an internship with us, you will tackle business challenges that make a real impact. You will work alongside teams performing real tasks and you’ll develop your skills and build your network in a dynamic environment designed to support your long-term career objectives.

In keeping with our current learning needs, we are looking for University students or recent graduates who meet the criteria indicated below:

  • You  must be in your final or second last year of your degree program or having graduated with the last 1 year  in an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • You must be on break from school during the internship period for any of the quarters within the year. For ongoing students, priority will be given to students with industrial attachment as a requirement to completion of the degree program.
  • Must be available for the full period of the internship program (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm)
  • You can only select 1 quarter in the year for which you will be available for the internship
  • The internship is for a fixed period of three months without extension .

Qualifications

Ideal candidate’s requirements:

  • Desire to gain professional experience and is incredibly eager to learn and explore the corporate environment
  • Oral and written communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, as well as the ability to challenge the status quo will enhance a successful internship.
  • Basic proficiency in MS office suite skill required.

Detailed Description

Reporting to the Chief of Sales & Distribution, the position holder’s role will be to effectively manage Agents & sub-agents in the assigned area, by growing the agents/sub-agents business to ensure the availability of M-PESA services in the area at all times.

Job Responsibilities

  • Visit all agents regularly using agreed route plans.
  • Implementation of market penetration routines as per business Strategy/ objectives.
  • Ensure contract sales force adheres to agreed trade routes.
  • Ensure Adherence to the set daily and monthly trade routes.
  • Identify gaps in market coverage and recruit suitable outlets to fill in the assigned territory.
  • Recruiting non-Safaricom dealers and stand-alone as recruitment agents.
  • Availability and penetration of M-PESA services.
  • Facilitate sign-up of agents/ sub-agents to meet area targets.
  • Attain transaction targets – the value of transactions, number of transactions and customer registrations.
  • Achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual targets for assigned sales areas.
  • Carry out consistent audits of outlets in assigned regions.
  • Escalate non-conformities for necessary action.
  • Ensure closure of unsatisfactory agents and return of Safaricom property within stipulated guidelines.
  • Identify and assist in the improvement of outlets that underperform.
  • Troubleshoot in poorly performing outlets and offer propositions to partner agents to close gaps.
  • Ensure 100% compliance to branding and merchandising standards at outlets within the sales area.
  • Ensure attainment of agreed levels of business tools and adherence to re-order levels at all assigned
  • Ensure all agents / sub-agents are well-trained on acceptable KYC standards.
  • Ensure the contracted sales force delivers quality/ expected training standards to agent assistants in the
  • Provide consumer education through roadshows and targeted events.

Job Requirement

  • A degree in Humanities or Social Sciences from a recognized university.
  • 7 to 10 years hands-on work experience in a Customer service environment preferably in a customer interfacing position.
  • Must have had at least 3 years of Supervisory/Team leadership experience preferably in customer care.
  • Excellent knowledge of The Company's products and services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (articulate) coupled with good listening and critical reasoning skills.
  • Mentoring/coaching skills/experience.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Trainer of trainers’ skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good report writing skills coupled with excellent presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of the local language is desirable.

We are pleased to announce the following position within the Technology Function.  In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Position 1: Senior Specialist: Billing Operations

Must have technical/professional qualifications:

  • Degree in Telecommunication Engineering/Electrical & Electronics engineering/Computer Science/IT.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in a busy telecommunication/ IT environment or Software Engineering with good knowledge of Mobile and Fixed services with at least 2 years’ experience managing a team.
  • Working knowledge in Unix systems and Databases – Oracle, MySQL.
  • Expertise in various analytics tools such and Python, Standard Query languages
  • Experience in Procedural Programming languages, Linux/Unix, scripting,
  • Proficiency in networking protocols – TCP/IP, professional certification e.g. CCNA/CCNP or equivalent is preferred
  • Prior Experience in GSM and fixed services billing is preferred.
  • Domain experience in GSM and IT is a must.

Position 2: Executive Head of Property & Facilities & Retail Asset Management

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

·        First degree in Architecture/ Land & Building Economics/ Quantity Surveying/ Civil Engineering.

·        Minimum of 6 years’ experience in project and property management

·        Certification in Project Management

·        Certification in Quantity surveying or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.

Location: Addis Ababa

Position 3: Executive Head of Department – Risk (Internal/External)

  • A graduate with a degree in Economics, Commerce, Engineering or IT.
  • Professional certification in risk management.
  • IT knowledge – an understanding of the working of various accounting packages (including ERP’s).
  • 10 years working experience in a risk management role in a reputable firm, or 10 years proven experience in risk analysis function preferably in a telecommunications environment.
  • High level knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Detailed knowledge of technology, financial and telecommunications business operations is essential.

Position 4: Regional Security Officer

·       Degree in Security Management/Administration or any technical or business discipline

·       At least 4 years’ experience in corporate security with adequate exposure in leadership appointments.

·       Service in the discipline forces preferably not below the rank of “captain” from the Military or it’s equivalent in the police service will be an added advantage .

·       General knowledge of Ethiopian Laws and Government Regulations pertaining to law enforcement
