You Me At Six are an alternative rock band who formed in 2004 and hail from Surrey, UK. They have rapidly transitioned into a world class act.

When Josh Franceschi (vocals), Max Heyler (guitar), Chris Miller (guitar), Matt Barnes (bass) and Dan Flint (drums) began the band back in 2004, who knew the enormous heights that this group of teens would achieve.

Citing early influences in bands like Brand New, Blink-182 and Thrice, the band released their debut album "Take Your Colours Off" via small independent label Slam Dunk Records in 2008. The album featured their explosive hits "Save It for the Bedroom" and "Kiss and Tell", with pop-punk elements in abundance they garnered great support from UK music publications Kerrang! and Rocksound. As they toured relentlessly playing small club shows across the country whilst becoming a regular addition to their label's annual music festival, Slam Dunk Festival in Leeds, UK, the band continued collecting avid fans along the way.

In October 2008, YMA6 got their big break when they were given the opportunity to support US pop-punk heavyweights Fall Out Boy on their UK arena tour, ending at the iconic Wembley Arena, London. Following a string of sold out tours and rising popularity, the band went from playing small slots to headlining Slam Dunk Festival in 2009.

In 2010, the band released their highly anticipated second album "Hold Me Down" through Virgin Records which featured the anthemic tracks "Liquid Confidence" and "Underdog" as the band's sound matured, retaining their catchy melodies. The album reach number five in the UK album charts. You Me At Six made their international foray as they played the iconic and intense US Vans Warped Tour.

Their heaviest album to date “Sinners Never Sleep” released in 2011 reached number three in the UK charts and featured guest appearances by Parkway Drive's Winston McCall and Bring Me The Horizon's Oli Sykes. The album produced the stand out tracks “Bite My Tongue” and “Loverboy”. Later that year the band went home with "Best British Band" at the Kerrang Awards.

After a year of touring the world the band capped off a monumental year, by playing their biggest ever headline show at Wembley Arena, London on 8 December 2012 titled "Final Night of Sin". Playing to a sold out crowd of 12,500 people at the place where their career had really kicked off four years previous was not only a huge milestone for the band, but fulfilled many a dream.

Throughout their successful career, the band have played alongside bands like Parkway Drive, All Time Low, Paramore and A Day To Remember whilst playing a host of national and international festivals such as Reading & Leeds, V and Soundwave.

In 2014 the band achieved their first ever number one album with "Cavalier Youth”. Churning singles like “Fresh Start Fever” and “Lived a Lie” has seen the band continue scaling to incredible heights. For You Me at Six, the only way really from here is onwards and upwards.

Live reviews

As soon as the house lights are down, screams fill the arena and there’s only one name on everyone’s lips. “You Me At Six! You Me At Six” chant the crowd in unison, even more the band have taken to the stage, a small taste of the passion that You Me At Six fans possess.

Sitting high at the top of their game, You Me At Six have fervently worked over last decade to deservedly achieve that position. Boasting four highly successful studio albums met with a whole host of accolades, it’s no surprise that they are one of Britain’s biggest rock bands right now. As YMAS have matured physically and also musically they’ve been able to successful adapt their musical style without alienating their current fan base but also enables them to reach out to new audiences. Touring the world has further increased their fan base reaching into territories such as Asia and South America, who’d have imagined 10 years ago that this Surrey band would have made it this far. December 2012 saw them playing the biggest headline show of their career thus far at a sold out Wembley Arena to a crowd of somewhere in the region of 12,500. The Final Night Of Sin as the show was aptly called, saw Sixers (a term used to describe avid fans) travel from all over the world to catch this memorable experience. Arriving early at the crack of dawn to secure their spot in the queue to ensure they guarantee a place at the barrier, the best seat in the house.

Kicking off proceedings with one of their newer tracks “The Swarm” accompanies but bursts of smoke and magnificent beams of light, YMAS then progress into “Loverboy” and no matter where in the room you are stood, you can hear every single person sing along word for word from the top of their lungs. The crowd jump up and down as they are enthused by the energy that the band are providing. Creating the perfect balance between both new and old tracks in their repertoire, Josh Francheschi leads the crowds with his impeccable vocal range whether it’s heavier tracks such as “The Consequence” or more slow-tempo like “Always Attract”. Part way through the set the band recall memories of supporting Fall Out Boy in this very venue back in 2009, an emotional and unforgettable moment not only for them but the fans who have accompanied and supported them along the way. Ending the set with an encore “Stay With Me”, “Bite My Tongue” and “Underdog” with the roman numeral six on a huge light display, pyro and confetti cannons set into the crowd, it’s a spectacular ending to a what is undoubtedly an unforgettable show for all the right reasons.

You Me At Six can do no wrong, the only way from here is up. Prepare to be amazed.

You Me at Six were fantastic live! They're super interactive with the crowd, they get you pumped and they let you know what they're feeling. First they immediately came on with a new song, Too Young; released on their latest record Cavalier Youth. Then while playing underdog they wanted everyone off their feet, jumping to the music. Not many people knew the words to the newer songs, but one girl I was standing near had her head down on the barrier. While the lead singer Josh was performing he was trying to motion for her to get up and have fun, when she wouldn't, he walked over to her and told the crowd and the band to stop. "You're in the front row and you look like you're about to fall asleep!" Josh stated. The girl said she doesn't know the words, but Josh was JUST singing the melody. He said "I was just teaching you!" and he began to sing the melody "Ooh woah oh, Oh woah oh oh!" and the girl wouldn't sing so he got the whole crowd to sing along so she'd sing. She finally did and Josh told her to wake the f*** up. Later in the performance Josh asked everyone to say hi to someone they don't know and a bunch of girls wouldn't do it and he exclaimed "people are falling asleep, don't know how to say hello, what the f*** Orlando?!". After the next song he talked about how he remembers a time where there were no mobile phones at every concert. He asked the crowd to put them away for just the next 3 songs and be in this moment and enjoy the concert right here right now. Of course a few didn't listen so he reached out into the crowd and snatched their phones away and put them on the kit riser. This of course made everyone just get out their phones more, so once Josh caught on, he just took their phones and smacked them down on the barrier. When he gave everyone their phones back, he gave sarcastic remarks to how great these kids were. It was great. I love how sassy Josh can be but I wish the crowd could have been better for them.

Being at the barrier for this concert was something else entirely. You are closer to the band which makes you feel the experience much more. You feel like you are on the stage.

You Me At Six. Where to start. This was my fourth time seeing them and i have to say it was their best yet. they get better everytime. They came on stage completely fired up and their energy and passion didnt stop once. They interacted with the crowd they played every song brilliantly. Josh said his voice was gone but he was amazing, one of the best id heard him. They just felt like a unit and it was incredible. The setlist was packed with great songs and they performed every one with emotion of some sort and they had a great time along with the crowd you could feel the energy. The whole experience of no one does it better and take on the world, two of their really emotional songs, brought tears to me ad it was just beautiful to hear them at such a level.

During Save it for the bedroom a song from their first album, Josh encouraged crowdsufers, and i have never experienced that till now and it was fun. There was so much going off. Josh sat on the egde of the stage and was high fiving the crowd sufers but the security( doing a really good job) were holding people back so Josh jumped off the stage and started running along the botoom high fiving people in the front row. The energy and the sound of that song sounded great. they jazzed it up a bit making it sound mature.

Ending with Room to Breathe was incredible it rounded off a perfect night and a perfect setlist and they sounded incredible till the end.

The You Me At Six concert at Rio Theater was a bomb! Josh and the others did a great job entertaining the crowd. One of the best things was that the theater was small and even the back rows were fantastic!

I'm only 13 and I came with my mom and let me just say: if you're of a younger age and you have over protective parents, don't pull off a rock concert like this one. Josh was constantly swearing and making dick jokes, at one point he asked the audience to take off an item of clothing and you could imagine how many bras were flashed at him. That's when I started thinking of what I had gotten myself into but my mum wasn't too angry with me after it was over.

Back to Josh, at the concert he (for the first time ever) asked everyone to stand on their seats since it was a theater!!! It was really fun, everyone was so into the music, different people of different ages united by it. Oh, and it was also cool how Josh did Oli's solo part in Bite My Tongue, he was great!

Oh and not to forget the special treat we got after the concert. After it had all ended and people started going home, we sat into the car and started driving home ourselves, when we saw all of YMAS, alone, in an alleyway walking towards our car. They were EXTREMELY close, so naturally I lost my gift of speech. When I finally gathered myself, I screamed "Hi, Josh!", getting a "hi" right back from him. It was pretty crazy, the whole experience was amazing!

I think hand on heart I can honestly say I have never seen You Me At Six perform better. It was a crazy night the band were on fire and the crowd were insane.

The did a nice mix of current and old tracks. I think the biggest reaction of the night was to my favourite track Bite My Tongue, the whole floor became a circle pit.

It was amazing to see them in such a small venue having been to O2 when they played there at the beginning of the year. I suspect this kind of venue will be very rare in the future of You Me At Six.

I am so pleased I was there to witness a great British band become amazing. I cannot wait to see what the new album will bring and to see them again.

You Me At Six: the best band known to man. Not only does this band sound amazing on their albums, but they sound even better live! This concert was incredible. With my VIP passes, I got to go in early to listen to an acoustic set. Josh's powerful voice mixed with the musical talents of Dan, Chris, Matt, and Max blew me away. This is true for both the acoustic and regular show. YMAS have been my favorite band for around two years now. They always captivate me with their music. Every single album they've put out has had a different sound & I appreciate that. They're amazing. Everyone should appreciate them.

I saw You Me At Six when they performed in Portland, Oregon. The concert experience was amazing. I had a VIP ticket so my night started with an acoustic performance in the back of a parking lot, and only got more surreal from there. The concert was amazing and honestly what I would have expected had I never been to a You Me At Six concert before. When Leeds Festival was brought up I had to laugh because so many of the people surrounding me were in their early teens and had no idea what Leeds Festival was. The music was great, the crowd was good, and the memories will stick with me forever

Sometimes it seems to me that I too often call a concert my favourite, but it was just incredible! I have not listened to You Me At Six for as long as I did in the first year of my uni, and now I have no words to express all the emotions after the show. Even the warm-up was magical! I only shoot two songs, because I did not want to be distracted from what was happening on stage. The guys gave their best, sang so many favourite songs, and they were so kind to the audience! So many jokes, kind words and small stories! An unforgettable experience! Thank you!

Freaking great gig!

They did a mixture of their new album and older songs too which made for a great show! The atmosphere was insane especially through Take On The World where everyone had their flashlights on and were singing along (Josh stopped singing for a minute to here the crowd), and also when they sang Save It For The Bedroom where Josh motivated the crowd to crowd surf to the front and so many people got involve, it was amazing!

I had an amazing time and definitely recommend them to anyone who hasn’t yet seen them!

It was alright. Event staff was walking around, pushing people and making it seem like something bad was happening. Instead of enjoying the show, it felt kind of weird because the bands kept trying to get people to jump or other weird activities. Band sang half the time and the other half was expecting crowd to sing. I don't know, I guess it was an interesting experience... Most other bands just sing and let things happen but don't make it seem forced. Maybe I was just in a weird mood :)

You Me At Six: all the details on the band's farewell tour after news they are to split

you me at six tour london

Rock band You Me at Six have announced they are splitting up, but only after a final farewell tour which will end in 2025.

The Surrey group, led by frontman Josh Franceschi, yesterday revealed they are calling it a day in an Instagram post which featured them somberly walking through a cemetery.

The statement reads: "This is the end. Thank you for being the heartbeat of this band."

In a voiceover Franceschi says: “Time. Something we never have enough of but always need more of. Sometimes it goes by slowly. Sometimes it goes by fast. Some things are over quickly and some were built to last.

“Twenty years in the making, beyond our wildest dreams. Trips around the sun, we’ve lost count, one more for memories. People  love stories with endings, page after page, year after year. We’ll give you a final chapter, because we’ve climbed our  Everest , we’ve faced our fears.”

Looking down at a grave he reads from a book and adds: “It’s time. Time for the finish line, it’s time for goodbye.”

Fans have left comments beneath the post announcing their dismay, with one saying, "My heart's broken."

However, the final hurrah is yet to come, as the band announced plans to tour in 2024 and 2025, they will also be a headliner at this years Slam Dunk Festival in May.

Here's everything we know about what the band will be up to before they part ways next year:

You Me at Six at the Forum

you me at six tour london

I O U, Beautiful Way

After almost two years of waiting, English rock band You Me At Six claimed the stage once again at the Forum, Kentish Town, for their first show in London since lockdown began. Having toured extensively with renowned bands such as Thirty Seconds to Mars, Paramore and Fall Out Boy, the Weybridge-born group have become one of the bigger names in the industry in recent years.

Fans were met with a sea of misty darkness as anticipation grew for the rockers to come on stage. The first note of Nice to Me from their UK number one album, Suckapunch , filled the room with electricity. Mosh pits formed spontaneously across the packed-out arena, drinks and bodies flying everywhere, and an energy surge permeated the room. Not one person was left dissatisfied by the entrance.

The atmosphere intensified with MAKEMEFEELALIVE , and the crowd control that lead singer Josh Franceschi commanded just added to the vigour. Everyone continued dancing, singing and pumping their fists – thank goodness for the structural integrity of the Forum, because without it, the house literally would have been brought down.

For the more seasoned fans, a brief sigh of relief came at the sound of I O U , off sixth album VI , because, although it is an earworm, it is one of their more chilled-out songs. The reprieve was short-lived, as next was WYDRN from the latest studio album. The crowd divided, with the older fans remaining seated, and the younger, more energetic fans up on their feet once again, singing their hearts out.

Bite My Tongue was definitely the apex of the night, with crowd-surfing actively encouraged by both band and security. Bodies rolled to the front, where Josh Franceschi once again greeted everyone and shook the hands of those who managed to get to the stage. It was a spectacle, and, much like a family reunion, beautiful to see.

The night stayed in the same vein, with a resilient energy, so that when the artists disappeared after Suckapunch , the crowd were thirsting for more. After five minutes, they got what they were itching for – an encore, the concert ending with Underdog leading into Beautiful Way . These two songs encapsulate the message of the band: “Treat strangers a little better, and love one another, because we’re all f***ed up in a beautiful way”.

You Me At Six are living proof that good music still exists, and there is more to be said for being genuine than the world gives credit for. It was no surprise that when asked, “Will you be joining us next year for our biggest concert yet?”, there was a resounding “YES!” from every person in the crowd.

The British rockers recently dropped new single ‘Deep Cuts’, which will feature on the their eighth studio album ‘Truth Decay’, due out early next year.

Vocalist Josh Franceschi commented, “Deep Cuts’ is about being on the outside looking in on people in your circle who are going through pain or a bad moment by being with the wrong person. Suffering because they’re holding onto someone or something that they could let go of. Knowing that they would be more than fine on the other side of it, but convincing them of that is easier said than done. Hoping they will eliminate the trauma by moving past it as quick as possible”.

Review: You Me At Six Live in London

You Me At Six storm their biggest ever UK headline show

you me at six tour london

Having scored their first UK number one album in January of this year, You Me At Six were in celebratory mood as they brought their Cavalier Youth tour to Ally Pally on April 5. Here's five things we learnt as we watched the chart toppers at one of London's most historic venues...

TONIGHT’S SUPPORT BAND ARE ON THE UP…

Don Broco’s star is clearly on the rise. The reaction that meets the Bedford quartet tonight is worthy of a headline slot, and when you consider it has been nearly two years since they released their full length debut Priorities , the explosion of excitement they induce is all the more impressive. It is easy to see why people are so enthused by them; frontman Rob Damiani and his mates leap about the Palace’s stage with reckless joy in their eyes and unswerving belief in their hearts. Proof that people will always fall for a band that give it everything they’ve got.

… AND THE KEY TO THEIR SUCCESS LIES OUTSIDE TRADITIONAL ROCK SPHERES

‘Broco are not a band who will just appeal to rock fans. In fact, the more hardened of our ranks will look at their clean cut good looks and neat hair and dismiss them out of hand. The reality is that this is music that will draw in the sort of people who go to T4 on the beach and holiday in Magaluf. Damiani’s butter-smooth croon lays a sophisticated pop depth on top of choppy instrumental groove and flow tonight, but it is the knowing glint in the eye of their trademark ‘Broco walk’ dance move that gives the real indication of where this band’s future lies.

YOU ME AT SIX ARE BACK AND AS SLICK AS EVER

The start of 2014 was an interesting time for You Me At Six. Having been away for three years there might have been some concerns as to how their new album Cavalier Youth would be received. If that record going to number one didn’t crush those doubts then the screams of delight that back tonight’s opener Too Young To Feel This Old comprehensively reveal that people still really, really love this band. YMA6 have been doing this for their whole adult lives (and some of their childhoods too) so it should be no surprise that they are a well oiled machine, but tonight they are so ruthlessly professional that it is almost scary.

YMA6 ARE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT UK BANDS OF THE LAST DECADE

Believe it or not, YMA6 have been going for ten years. Ten years. What that means is that this venue is packed with kids who have grown up listening to their music - and there is no more powerful tool in a band’s armoury than the gravitas of familiarity. Their ability to unite both suburban kings and queens with perfect skin and well attended Instagram accounts and the gawky, weird teenagers who will end up forming the great bands of the future make them a rare and special proposition. There is an older crowd here too - admittedly further towards the back of the room but in the flickering half light of YMA6’s enormous LED screen backdrop you can see them. And they are mouthing along to every single word.

THEY ARE AT THEIR BEST WHEN THEY STICK TO BEING A PROPER ROCK BAND

While Cavalier Youth clearly saw YMA6 trying to turn towards more ‘grown up’ fare, it is the pump and thrust of their harder rocking tunes that really works best this evening. Underdog is a full bore highlight and you can feel the floor physically moving from the pogoing that’s going on during an encore rendition of Reckless . That being said, there’s no Save It For The Bedroom , no Finders Keepers , no Kiss And Tell and the set does amble into a bit of mid-paced mire for their absence. For the most part though, this is sharp, precise superbly executed stuff a truly impressive spectacle.

One of the things that You Me At Six discovered whilst making their blistering eighth album Truth Decay was that you don’t really know where you’re going if you don’t know where you came from. As the dust settled on the triumphant campaign for 2021’s Suckapunch, the band’s second UK Number One album, Josh Franceschi (lead vocals), Max Helyer (guitar), Chris Miller (guitar), Matt Barnes (bass) and Dan Flint (drums) regrouped and discussed ideas for their next move. “We were all very proud of the fact we’d tried lots of new things on Suckapunch and there was a lot of bravery in making that,” says Franceschi. “This time, we wanted to hone in on a particular identity for the band, more so than we have in the past. We had to look backwards to figure out where it was we wanted to go.”

The quintet have emerged with a record that both celebrates and salutes a wildly successful career as one of British rock’s biggest modern bands at the same time as plotting an exhilarating way forward. “We are at our best when all five of us are on the frontline, living it and breathing it, all five of us swinging, putting their creativity into it,” says Franceschi. “That’s what you get from Truth Decay.”

As they combed through their back catalogue, they were drawn to the era between 2010’s Hold Me Down and 2014’s Cavalier Youth. It was a period in which the band got their initial swagger, coming into their own with an arsenal of rattling punk-pop singalongs. Combining that sense of exuberance with everything they’ve learned since felt like the key. “We felt like there was a clear identity to the band then, people knew who we were and what we were about, and we wanted to bring that to the forefront again. Knowing what kind of record we wanted to make before we’d even written a song gave it direction, it spearheaded a purpose.”

Having a clear sonic blueprint propelled them into a creative purple patch, with four or five song ideas taking shape every day during writing sessions. By the time they got to Black Rock Studios in Santorini to record with VI and Suckapunch producer Dan Austin, they were laser focused. It was a clarity of mind that was reflected in Franceschi’s approach to writing the lyrics.

Eager not to repeat the haphazard way in which he worked on Suckapunch (“there’d be weeks go by where people were saying, ‘when are you going to write your parts for this song?!’” and I’d be like, “I’ll have a few drinks and just blurt it out”), he quit drinking for seven months and got into mental shape for an inner deep dive. If You Me At Six were going to make the best punk-pop-rock record of their career, he decided, then he needed to be at his most emotionally sincere. “I realised people love You Me At Six even more so when I’m taking something and ripping it open and showing it at its rawest and most vulnerable state,” he says. “I knew I wanted to face pain head on across this record. That’s where I’m at my most potent. It’s sometimes an issue for me and those around me that I need to be either living in pain or have experienced pain to write real shit, but it’s the way it is for me. When you really humanise a situation in a song, it opens up so many ways for people to inhabit your music.”

It’s why the band decided to call the album Truth Decay. “It’s the understanding and acceptance that there’s a beauty in the breakdown,” explains Franceschi. “Sometimes something can seem so obvious and clear but, actually, when you tear away at it a little bit, you realise it’s not as simple as you thought.” It’s a theme that is threaded through the record, truth and how it can be manipulated and twisted.

Searing, stomping opener Deep Cuts sets the tone. Driven by a barbed riff and muscular groove, it’s a message from Franceschi to some of his friends and loved ones that they deserve happiness and love on their terms, to be themselves rather who they think society wants to be. “It’s this idea being beaten into them that security and love and understanding isn’t applicable to them when it is, it’s about recognising how worthy you are to be happy. As I always have, I looked at things around me, the people that are part of my ecosystem and just to tap into it.”

The stirring anthem Mixed Emotions (I Didn’t Know How To Tell You What I Was Going Through) is an open letter from Franceschi to his bandmates about mental health and how the group could’ve communicated differently over the years. “It’s about, ‘I’m sorry I wasn’t equipped enough to be there’, or ‘I don’t expect you to have been there, because how could you know?’,” says Franceschi. When the singer talks to younger bands these days, he tries to encourage them to be open and honest with each other. “I don’t want them to make the same mistakes, or go through the same shit we’ve gone through.”

Those two tracks give the whole record its sense of compelling momentum, an album of dynamism and gear changes that sounds intricate and huge at the same time. The crunching God Bless The 90s Kids pays homage to the scene that they came through, After Love In The After Hours is a swooping epic, whilst Enter Shikari’s Rou Reynolds helps bring the frantic snarling of No Future? Yeah Right into land. “We were recording it in Santorini and I thought, ‘there’s only one person I can think of that can take this to another level’,” recalls Franceschi. “I voice-noted Rou about it and got this really buoyant message back, it lifted me and lifted the whole record. There was a thing of, ‘somebody we really respect and love feels the same about our music and wants to be part of it’. That was great.” The song is a defiant response to people trying to take the band down. “It’s about people essentially wanting to completely destroy us and end our career because things hadn’t worked out – it happens in all walks of life, but particularly business. I would label it a traumatic moment in our band’s career.”

The swarming Breakdown is destined to become one of the band’s most explosive live tracks, born out of the frantic, Def Con 1 energy you get when everything becomes too much, whilst another guest helps out on hypnotic, poignant closer A Love Letter To Those Who Feel Lost. “I listened to Cody Frost’s track Should’ve Known Better and I was floored. I messaged her and said, “I’ve got this song that needs to go to another gear and the way you do it, it would just completely elevate the track. She’s awesome.”

When the band were making Truth Decay, their mission statement was to remind everyone that there isn’t a band to touch them when it comes to making emo-rock. “Forget about it,” Franceschi declares, “there’s nobody else that gets anywhere near it.” Back on the frontline, everybody swinging, Truth Decay is the sound of a band celebrating the scene that they helped to build at the same time as showing where it can go next. It’s You Me At Six at their brilliant best. They know where they’ve come from, and they know where they’re going.

Drivers are still feeling the strain of rising insurance premiums - but there are signs of a slowdown, according to one index.

New figures from insights firm Consumer Intelligence suggest the average quoted price of car insurance rose by 56.4% in the year to February.

This was the third-highest annual increase since its records began in 2012 - but in slightly better news for motorists, it marked a lower annual rise than the 67.2% recorded in November.

And there was only a slight rise of 0.5% when looking at the three months to February - the lowest quarterly increased since November 2021.

Drivers most commonly received a quote between £500 and £749 in February, Consumer Intelligence said. It analysed the average of the five cheapest offers from price comparison websites.

Max Thompson, the firm's insurance insight manager, said big insurance brands made "competitive movements" to reduce premiums at the start of the year.

"However some of this was unwound in February indicating it may have been more of a tactical move than a long-term trend," he added.

Jonathan Fong, manager of general insurance policy at the Association of British Insurers (ABI) said insurers were "aware of the financial challenges customers are facing" and were working to keep prices affordable.

"Our motor premium tracker is the only collection based on the price customers pay for their policy, rather than quotes, and shows that the average motor premium increased by 25% last year to £543.

"This was largely driven by above inflation increases in the cost of repairs, thefts and replacement cars," he said.

The Abu Dhabi-backed vehicle that had been on the brink of buying The Daily Telegraph is in detailed talks with Whitehall officials about the structure of an onward sale of the newspaper.

Sky News has learnt that RedBird IMI is negotiating with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport about whether it can convert a call option which constitutes the right to take ownership of the Telegraph and Spectator into shares in the assets prior to their purchase by a new owner.

The telecoms entrepreneur who turned Daisy Group into one of the industry's most successful private companies is closing in on the latest in a string of significant takeover deals.

Matthew Riley, Daisy's chairman, has orchestrated a £215m deal to acquire 4Com , a provider of cloud communications services to more than 17,000 corporate customers, Sky News understands.

City sources said the deal was expected to be signed within days and was likely to hand 4Com founder Daron Hutt a windfall worth more than £100m.

The Financial Conduct Authority has told motor finance firms they need to put funds aside as it continues a probe into the sector.

The City regulator also said many firms are "struggling to promptly provide the data we need" for the investigation.

A review was launched by the FCA earlier this year into whether people could be owed compensation for being charged too much for car loans, following a high number of complaints on historic agreements.

American Express has announced two major changes to its British Airways credit cards which help customers collect Avios points towards flights.

From November, the amount that BA Amex and BA Amex Premium Plus card holders will need to spend every year to get "two-for-one" companion vouchers will rise to £15,000.

That's a £3,000 rise in the minimum annual spend for Amex customers and £5,000 for Amex Premium Plus.

The companion vouchers mean customers can grab a second seat for someone travelling on the same flight, or a 50% discount on the Avios price of a solo flight.

That's not the only change, however, as American Express is also hiking the annual fee for its Amex Premium Plus card from £250 to £300 - an inflation-busting 20% increase.

The fee increase applies from today for new applicants. Existing cardholders will be hit with the rise for renewals from 1 August onwards.

Meanwhile, the US bank said the qualifying spend for companion vouchers will start from 1 November regardless of when membership is renewed.

That means some current customers may need to race to hit the lower minimum spend by 31 October.

American Express told consumer champion Which? that it occasionally makes changes to cardholders' account terms. A spokesperson said the companion voucher "remains an industry-leading credit card benefit", while both cards "continue to provide great value for customers".

Greece has announced a scheme to give "free" holidays to tourists affected by the wildfires that ravaged Rhodes last summer.

More than 20,000 tourists and locals were forced to flee homes and seaside hotels after blazes fanned by strong winds broke out on the island and burned for days in July 2023.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis vowed  last year to offer a one-week free holiday in Rhodes to those whose holidays were cut short.

The country's government has now officially launched the "Rodos Week" scheme, which offers an e-voucher of between €300 and €500 compensation for a week's stay.

The general secretary of Greece's tourism ministry  told  The Guardian that it has been a "very complicated process not least, I think, because we’re the first country in the world to do this".

The amount holidaymakers can claim depends on the rank of the hotel they were originally staying in.

E-vouchers can be claimed during two phases: between now and May 31, and from 10 October to 11 November.

Only those who stayed in hotels are eligible for the scheme, the government said, with Airbnb accommodation excluded.

Yannis Papavasiliou, head of the island's union of hoteliers, said there has been good take up already with over 5,000 holidaymakers enrolling, according to The Guardian.

The airport where you're likely to face the longest delays has been revealed as one of the UK's biggest.

London Gatwick replaced Birmingham to top the list for 2023, with its departures nearly 27 minutes behind schedule, according to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) data.

The West Sussex airport, the second-busiest in the UK behind Heathrow, was hit by air traffic control shortages across Europe last year and also had similar problems in its control tower.

In a statement, Gatwick said it was "working closely with our airline partners to improve on-time performance".

"The majority of cancellations are caused by poor weather, airspace constraints across Europe and inefficient third party ground operations," it said.

Luton airport followed with an average delay of almost 23 minutes, while Manchester took third place at nearly 22 minutes.

In contrast, holidaymakers flying from Belfast City (George Best) had the best experience, with the typical delay there just 12-and-a-half minutes in 2023.

Across all airports, the average delay was almost 20 minutes and 42 seconds - though this fell from 23 minutes and 12 seconds the previous year amid a boom in travel after the pandemic.

CAA director Tim Johnson said the aviation sector needed to "focus on resilience" before summer comes to "keep passenger disruption to a minimum".

All scheduled and chartered departures from UK airports with at least 1,000 outbound flights were included in the analysis, with cancellations excluded.

Naomi Leach, deputy editor of Which? Travel, said the latest figures point to "millions of passengers" experiencing "unacceptably long hold-ups last year".

"This cannot be allowed to become the new normal."

But the Airport Operators Association argued that data doesn't show "any of the context around operating in a global environment".

"Airports work extremely hard to minimise delays while providing a positive, safe and secure experience for passengers," it said.

We've all heard consumer advice that's repeated so often it almost becomes cliché. So, every Friday the Money team will get to the bottom of a different "fact" and decide whether it's a myth or must.

This week it is...

'You can't get a mortgage with a bad credit rating'

Just how important is keeping on top of your credit score when it comes to buying a home?

For this one, we've got the help of  Emma Steeley , chief executive at borrowing platform Aro.

"The honest answer is that a bad credit rating can stop you from getting a mortgage, and a poor rating can throw some serious hurdles in your path," Emma says.

"Despite this, it's not the end of the road if your credit rating isn't as rosy as you'd like it to be."

What counts as a bad credit score?

"In the worst-case scenario, this will likely mean you've defaulted on or missed payments, and debt has been escalated to the stage where legal action has been initiated," Emma says.

An applicant left with a credit score below 325 is considered "poor" or even "very poor" by Equifax.

A game of risk for lenders

Before we talk about what your credit score will do to an offer rate, it's important to understand the impact that the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio can have on this too, as it heavily influences the interest rate offered by lenders.

Your LTV ratio is used by lenders to decide how risky it is to lend you the money to buy your home. It compares how much of the property you will own - ie, how much deposit you can put down in relation to the property’s value - to how much they will need to lend to you to make up the difference.

"The lower your LTV ratio, the better the mortgage rate you're likely to be offered - the higher the LTV, the higher the risk for the lender," Emma says.

"A higher credit score can help mitigate the impact of a high LTV, potentially resulting in a more favourable interest rate."

What to do if you have a poor credit score

The obvious answer here is to try to improve your credit score, by building your file with credit builder loans and/or secured cards.

"While the options may be limited and less favourable for those with 'poor' credit scores, they do exist," Emma says.

Those are usually longer or more expensive deals, however.

The good news is most lenders don't solely use credit scores as a measure of creditworthiness.

"Best practice will see lenders using a blended scorecard, that overlays behavioural data and back book financial performance with credit data to get a much more accurate assessment of an individual's payback ability," Emma says.

However, for people with a "very poor" rating (below 226, according to Equifax), the number of offers you are likely to receive shrinks to almost zero.

Myth or must?

It's undeniable that a good credit score gives you more flexibility when it comes to getting a mortgage.

"Importantly, credit scores can be improved," Emma says.

"Those who take a proactive approach to managing their finances and understand how to rebuild their credit score will find themselves presented with a wider array of loan options."

A good credit score is a money must.

Messy neighbours can slash tens of thousands of pounds off the value of your home, according to new research.

A survey of estate agents by Churchill Home Insurance found that more than four in five (82%) believe it's important for homeowners to chat to their neighbours about their poorly maintained property before putting the house on the market.

Some 22% said an overgrown garden is likely to have the biggest impact, while 20% said rubbish or junk in the driveway or front garden could affect the cost.

Overflowing gutters (20%), several cars parked on or around the property (19%) and garden ornaments and statues (18%) also cut the value of neighbouring homes, estate agents said.

The research also revealed that some sellers deliberately time viewings to make their houses seem more attractive, avoiding issues next door such as loud music or pets - or even avoiding the neighbours altogether.

Sarah Khan, head of Churchill home insurance, said: "First impressions count when it comes to selling homes, with the sale price often negatively impacted when the neighbouring property looks scruffy.

"Investing a few hundred pounds in a gardener to tidy up next door's front garden could pay huge dividends when it comes to selling your home, a win-win for both you and your neighbour."

What do estate agents say?

We spoke to people in the industry about the risk of having messy neighbours when it comes to moving - and what their advice is for those seeking to avoid any effect on their sale.

James Stevenson, south and south west area director at Foxtons,  agrees it can make the process more difficult.

"Gardens that are unkept or full of clutter, pavements and frontages that have fallen into disrepair or where your neighbours are showing little care for their property are all a negative flag for buyers," he said.

"Additionally, any disruption that has become a neighbourly dispute must be declared to prospective buyers, so it's always better to have a great relationship with your neighbours and try to resolve any existing issues amicably."

Messy neighbours are "frustrating" at any time, but become a "more pressing issue" when it comes to putting a home up for sale, says  Sarah Cull, senior associate director Strutt & Parker Salisbury.

"Before you get your own gardening shears out, the first step should always be to try to have a frank conversation with your neighbour - you can even explain that you're looking to sell and you want to give prospective buyers the best first impression possible."

If a friendly chat doesn't do the job, Sarah suggests heading to a local garden centre to pick up some screening.

"Where the neighbour's garden is considered a nuisance - for example there's lots of rubbish which could attract pests, or weeds are damaging groundwork - then you can report it to your local council," she added.

The continued return to growth with GDP - a measure of everything produced in the economy - up 0.1% has been welcomed by markets.

The FTSE 100 - the index of most valuable companies on the London Stock Exchange - is up 0.86% and near its all-time high.

Pushing up the index is Fresnillo, the precious metals mining company with its share price up 6.91%.

Potentially putting a dampener on the global economy is the fact oil prices have remained elevated, with a barrel of the benchmark Brent crude oil costing $90.57.

Currency wise, one pound buys $1.256 and €1.17.

Jeremy Hunt says the latest economy figures are a "welcome sign".

The chancellor said GDP growth of 0.1% shows "that the economy is turning a corner, and we can build on this progress if we stick to our plan".

"Last week our cuts to national insurance for 29 million working people came into effect across Britain, as part of our plan to reward work and grow the economy," he said in a statement.

The UK economy has grown slightly for the second month in a row, official figures show.

Gross domestic product (GDP) grew just 0.1% in February, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

It's another signal that the UK economy is working its way out of recession.

Growth of 0.3% was recorded last month - and that figure has been revised upwards from a previous estimate of 0.2%.

A recession was declared in February after data showed two quarters of economic contraction.

If the economy expands for three months, the UK will be officially out of recession.

Can’t Find Eclipse Glasses? Here’s What to Do.

You can watch a projection of the eclipse using some common household items.

Two people kneel near an open cardboard box that they’ve fashioned into a projector for viewing an eclipse.

By Katrina Miller

Follow our live updates on the total solar eclipse .

Reliable paper-framed glasses are by far the most popular option for safely watching the total solar eclipse on Monday. But they’ve gotten more difficult to find in some places ahead of the event.

If you’ve checked everywhere — your local planetarium, public library and even online — fear not: There is still a way to watch the eclipse safely, using items around the house. Here are a few options.

Use your hands

Palms up, position one hand over the other at a 90-degree angle. Open your fingers slightly in a waffle pattern, and allow sunlight to stream through the spaces onto the ground, or another surface. During the eclipse, you will see a projection of the moon obscuring the surface of the sun.

This method works with anything with holes, such as a straw hat, a strainer, a cheese grater or even a perforated spoon. You will also notice this effect when light from the partially eclipsed sun streams through leaves on a tree.

Set up a cardstock screen

For this option, you need a couple of white index cards or two sheets of cardstock paper. First, punch a small hole in the middle of one of the cards using a thumbtack or a pin.

Then, facing away from the sun, allow light to stream through this pinhole. Position the second card underneath to function as a screen. Adjust the spacing between the two cards to make the projection of the sun larger or smaller.

Make a box projector

If you’re up for a bit of crafting, you can make a more sophisticated pinhole projector . Start with a cardboard box — empty cereal boxes are often used, but you can use a larger box, too. You’ll also need scissors, white paper, tape, aluminum foil and a pin or thumbtack.

Cut the piece of paper to fit the inside bottom of the cardboard box to act as a screen. Use tape to hold it in place.

On the top of the box, cut two rectangular holes on either side. (The middle should be left intact — you can use tape to secure this if needed.)

Tape a piece of aluminum foil over one of the rectangular cutouts. Punch a tiny hole in the middle of the foil with the tack or pin. The other cutout will serve as a view hole.

With your back to the sun, position the foil side of the box over your shoulder, letting light stream through the pinhole. An image of the sun will project onto the screen at the bottom of the box, which you can see through the view hole. A bigger box will create a bigger image.

Enjoy the show through any of these makeshift pinholes. And remember, during totality, you can view the sun directly with your naked eye. But you should stop looking at the sun as soon as it reappears.
