Taylor Swift's Eras: How the most successful concert tour ever got started in Arizona

midnight rain eras tour

Taylor Swift launched The Eras Tour era with a sold-out two-night stand at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18, 2023, the opening salvo of a record-breaking tour that has dominated headlines and, in many ways, the conversation ever since.

The Eras Tour is a phenomenon as big as Swift herself, if such a thing is possible — the highest-grossing tour of all time and the first tour in history to generate more than $1 billion in revenue.

The concert film — "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" — released in theaters worldwide on Oct. 13, 2023, quickly became the highest-grossing concert film in history , a record previously held by Justin Bieber.

Following The Eras Tour launch, Swift immediately shot to No. 1 on Pollstar's Artist Power Index chart , ending 2023 as Time magazine’s perfectly obvious choice for Person of the Year .

"Swift’s accomplishments as an artist — culturally, critically and commercially — are so legion that to recount them seems almost beside the point," Time wrote.

Then, after running down a laundry list of those accomplishments while placing her alongside Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Madonna as a pop star, Time explained why this year more than any other year.

"As a celebrity — who by dint of being a woman is scrutinized for everything from whom she dates to what she wears — she has long commanded constant attention and knows how to use it," Time wrote.

"But this year, something shifted. To discuss her movements felt like discussing politics or the weather — a language spoken so widely it needed no context. She became the main character of the world."

By that point, USA TODAY had hired its own Taylor Swift reporter and Swift had grabbed another first — first billionaire in history with music as the main source of income .

How the Year of Taylor Swift began in Glendale, Arizona

And to think: The Year of Taylor all began in Glendale, which renamed itself Swift City for the weekend in her honor.

A symbolic rebrand, the Swift City storyline played out on digital billboards along freeways and in Glendale's Westgate Entertainment District, where State Farm Stadium is located, welcoming fans to Swift City.

For what it's worth, we would've gone with Glendale (Taylor's Version) .

Swift had launched the Reputation Tour in that same stadium five years earlier.

She really likes us!

The Eras Tour is 'a journey through all of my musical eras'

In announcing the tour, Swift had promised “a journey through all of my musical eras,” which by any reasonable metric, is a lot of ground to cover — 10 hit albums, four of which have been released since the conclusion of the Reputation Tour in late 2018.

And she made it look easy, enjoying the journey as much as the Swifties who flocked to the show did while revisiting her catalog one era at a time in a marathon set that ran more than three hours, squeezing in 44 songs before the night was through.

Her earliest eras weren’t as prominently featured in the journey as her recent albums. There was only one song, “Tim McGraw,” from her first album, “Taylor Swift,” and one, “Enchanted,” from her third release, “Speak Now.”

The early albums she’d already rerecorded in “Taylor’s Version” editions by the time the tour launched were given more time in the spotlight. There were three songs from her second album “Fearless” and four from her fourth album, “Red.”

The Eras Tour favored the eras since the Reputation Tour

It made sense that Swift would give more stage time to the albums she hadn’t had a chance to tour since being forced to pull the plug on Lover Fest, the tour she had planned in support of 2019’s “Lover,” in response to the pandemic that took everybody off the road in 2020.

Not quite an hour into her performance on Night 1 in Glendale, Swift asked fans, “Is it just me or do we have a lot of things to catch up on?”

Noting that “it’s been a really long time since I’ve been on tour,” she said they’d “added four new members to the family” since that last tour, introducing them by name as “Lover,” “Folklore,” Evermore” and “Midnights,” her latest release, which brought the concert to an end with a seven-song sampler.

It was a breathtaking journey through 17 years’ worth of musical eras with the artist connecting with at every step along the way.

When Taylor dove into a stream and sang 'All Too Well'

The stage show was designed to reach the back rows of the stadium with a breathtaking blend of artful set design — that “Folklore” cabin was cottagecore gold — and film projected on the massive screen behind the stage.

It was a concert packed with highlights, the most theatrical of which came at the end of an understated “Tim McGraw,” which Swift performed alone on a satellite stage, accompanying herself on an upright piano. At the song’s conclusion, she stood up and appeared to dive into a stream to swim beneath the runaway to the main stage.

As entertaining as that was, the full 10-minute version of “All Too Well” from “Red (Taylor’s Version),” the longest song to top the Billboard Hot 100, emerged as the concert’s emotional centerpiece, a heartbreaking triumph that ended in a haunting shower of paper snowflakes.

That opening-night performance also introduced the concept of “ surprise songs ,” two unannounced acoustic songs she planned to slip into the set each night just to keep fans guessing in the Era of the Online Setlist, where a quick Google search can reveal all.

The Era Tour is scheduled to conclude on Dec. 8, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada.

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered in October to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap got the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.

After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the film’s premiere in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.

The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico. The European leg will kick off in November, with Swift returning for 15 more U.S. shows in October and November of 2024. And now you can rent “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” on digital to watch at home. Read on for the 41 songs that made the cut to truly represent all 10 of Swift’s eras.

Now that the film is heading exclusively to Disney+ for streaming , additional acoustic surprise songs will make it into the film, all of which were filmed during the Los Angeles SoFi shows.

Here are all the songs in Taylor Swift's extended 'Eras Tour' film

W ith 10 studio albums (which will become 11 on April 19!) under her belt, Taylor Swift has more than enough songs to make up the set list to her nearly three-hour “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” film.

The film, which was first released in the U.S. and Canada on Oct. 12 and globally on Oct. 13, h it Disney+ on March 14 , bringing the record-breaking concert into subscribers' homes.

While most of the songs Swift performed on her "Eras Tour" made the cut, TODAY staffers who attended the movie premiere in Los Angeles Oct. 11 confirmed that a few tunes weren't featured in the film — at first.

The at-home rollout of the film has seen fan-favorite songs added back in. With the extended film on Disney+, fans are able to watch "the ENTIRE concert film for the first time ever, beginning to end," Swift said on Instagram.

Read on to learn everything you need to know about the "Eras Tour" film set list.

What songs were cut from the movie?

The initial theatrical release of the "Eras Tour" film saw several songs cut from the set list, including "The Archer," “No Body, No Crime," “Cardigan," and “Wildest Dreams."

“Long Live,” featured in the 2010 album “Speak Now,” was not shown during the movie, but it played during the credits.

Three of those songs were added for an extended version of the film, which became available to rent on digital platforms  in the U.S. and Canada on Dec. 13, Swift's birthday.

"Very happy to be able to tell you that the extended version of the film including “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer” and “Long Live” will be available to rent on demand," Swift announced on Instagram Nov. 27.

In addition to an extended version, Swift released "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)" on Disney+ March 14, featuring the “ENTIRE concert film,” including “Cardigan.”

One song still remains on the cutting-room floor after the extended film release — "No Body, No Crime."

While on tour, Swift originally opened her "Evermore" section with "'Tis the Damn Season." But once Haim joined Swift on tour as a concert opener, the ballad was swapped with "No Body, No Crime," an angsty rock track that features the band.

In all three versions of the "Eras Tour" film — the original theatrical release, the on-demand version and the Disney+ extended cut — the "Evermore" set opens with the witchy track, "Willow."

Are there any surprise songs included in the film?

Yes, there are! Swift performed unique surprise songs each night during her "Eras Tour." Surprise songs, also known as the "acoustic set," occur towards the end of each "Eras Tour" concert and typically involve an acoustic performance of two of Swift's songs, one on the guitar, one on piano.

During the initial theater release, two surprise songs appeared in the movie, which IMDb reports was filmed at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles during Swift's six-night run in August.

The two surprise tunes were “Our Song,” a track featured on Swift's 2006 self-titled debut studio album, and “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” featured on her most recent studio album, “ Midnights ," which came out in 2022.

The Disney+ release of the "Eras Tour" film will feature four additional acoustic songs: "Maroon," "Death By A Thousand Cuts ," "You Are In Love " and "I Can See You."

Taylor Swift Eras Tour Setlist: 13 Best Moments from Her Opening Night Concert

By P. Claire Dodson

Taylor Swift does the Bejeweled TikTok dance on stage as part of the Taylor Swift Eras Tour Setlist

The Taylor Swift Eras Tour: a theatrical, emotional, intense feat of performance that clocked in at over three hours — with 45 songs total, including a poetic reading of the song “Seven” — much to the pleasure of Swifties, who last saw her perform a live tour four albums ago.

Taylor officially kicked off the Eras Tour with an opening night in Glendale, Arizona , on March 17 to a crowd of nearly 70,000 fans who had no idea what she would do next.  It was also an especially Nashville kind of night, with openers Paramore and GAYLE hailing from the city.

As Taylor welcomed everyone to the tour, she introduced the format: we'd be going on an adventure through Taylor's discography, era by era. The album order? Lover , Fearless, evermore , reputation, Speak Now, Red, folklore , 1989 , an acoustic set reminiscent of her debut, and finally, Midnights . Iconic.

Throughout the evening, Taylor played both hits and deep cuts, alluding to fandom inside jokes and overall showing how comfortable and happy she looks on stage. Three-plus hours of some of Taylor Swift's best work can be summed up in a quote from the singer-songwriter herself: “I don't know how to process how you all are making me feel right now.”

Whether you have tickets for future dates or would like to live vicariously through social media, check out our 13 favorite moments from night one of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.

Cirque du Lover Fest

Just before 8 p.m., a countdown clock set to Lesley Gore's “You Don't Own Me” appeared on the massive screen at State Farm Stadium. The seconds trickled down, and then… an opening door, and dancers emerged carrying massive colorful wings — a la Loïe Fuller — to a montage of Taylor audio clips from various eras. The effect was theatrical, bright as she rose from the middle of the wings to a surprising first song: “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince.” This one was for the girls with Lover Fest tickets.

Billowing wingesque waves on stage during opening moments of Eras Tour

A Little Bicep Kiss, as a Treat

Taylor was fully feeling herself minutes into the Eras Tour setlist, and nowhere was this more obvious than in her build-up to “The Man.” Transitioning from sparkly bodysuit to sparkly power blazer, she said, “You guys are making me feel powerful." She flexed her arm like Rosie the Riveter, hammering home the point with a deranged little kiss to her bicep. She finished with a flourish, ”I guess what I'm trying to say is you're making me feel like the man."

An evermore Joke Reference

Lest you forget Taylor Swift sees all, she explicitly referenced an ongoing fan theory/inside joke about her album evermore, in the middle of performing that era. Since evermore came out as folklore 's sister record, fans noticed what they saw as a pattern of her not acknowledging the album as much as its predecessor. Taylor assured fans, however, that evermore still holds a special place in her heart.

“We are in the middle of the evermore album,” she said at the mossy piano. "It’s an album I absolutely love, despite what some of you say on TikTok. I’ve seen it, I’ve seen all of it.”

A Moving Performance of “Marjorie"

If there's one song I didn't expect to hear in the Eras Tour setlist, it's “Marjorie,” one of the best examples of her songwriting to date. It's an emotive homage to her late grandmother, a song that feels close and intimate, almost too much to be performed in a stadium. But Taylor, wearing a long yellow dress, performed it with a glassy-eyed vulnerability that drew the crowd in to grieve together. To compound the moment, she followed “Marjorie” with fan-favorite “Champagne Problems” at the piano.

Give “tolerate it” a broadway show.

Taylor Swift went full theatre kid on “Tolerate It," whose set featured a long wooden table set with various fancy vases and tableware, with her dancer at the end playing her fraught love interest. As the verses mounted, Taylor climbed atop the table, smashing glass and tearing shit up. The drama!

The Old Taylors in Glass Closets

Reputation really is that album, and Taylor took us right back to The Reputation Tour during Eras with snake motifs, reimagined dark Taylor costuming, and more. The four-song setlist was a highlight of the show — that “Don't Blame Me” high note! — and especially “Look What You Made Me Do,” when her dancers donned old Taylor outfits and became trapped in glass boxes, banging on the sides to get out. Current Taylor only taunted them, dancing alongside and looking menacing. (Bonus: Andrea Swift absolutely rocking out to this song, as she should.)

Justice for Speak Now , But “Enchanted” Was Gorgeous

Taylor Swift's entirely self-written album — and the rumored next re-record — received some of the least attention during the Eras Tour. But the record did get a beautiful moment in “Enchanted,” where Taylor emerged in a glittering gown amidst purple fog. Enchanting, in the truest sense.

Instagram content

“i just love the idea of men apologizing”.

The folklore era was the most fully-fledged at the Eras Tour, with eight songs in total. Before she sang “Betty,” Taylor gave one of her most spot-on monologues: “I love to explain to men how to apologize,” she said, which, so true. “I just love the idea of men apologizing.”

“My Tears Ricochet”: A Funeral Procession

A true best moment of the Eras Tour: the dramatic funeral procession version of “My Tears Ricochet.” The visuals were out of an epic disaster movie, Taylor as the eye of a storm, a tsunami headed straight for you. The ultimate scene was her leading a pack of dancers in funeral black down the long stage.

“Tim McGraw,” Piano Version

I cried, you cried, 69,000+ people cried when Taylor sat at the piano to play the first song she ever released: “Tim McGraw.” The song was part of an acoustic set that also included “Mirrorball” — and according to Taylor, the set won't repeat any songs for the whole tour, unless she really messes something up and wants a do-over. (Not likely.)

A Dip in the Pool

The most shocking Eras Tour moment: when Taylor Swift suddenly dove into a pool of water at the very front of the stage. It was a sick visual moment, as the long stage took on a graphic of Taylor “swimming” underwater the length of the stadium, only to emerge on the main stage ready to take us into the final era of the setlist: Midnights . Meanwhile, the dive is already a viral internet meme.

The “Bejeweled” TikTok Dance

The TikTok x Taylor Swift crossover continued into the night during “Bejeweled,” when she performed the popular dance created by Mikael Arellano — complete with finger-wiggling shimmer.

“Karma” Is a Closer

If “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” was a surprising opening, “Karma” was a surprising finisher for the Eras Tour setlist. The Midnights track brought the whole show full circle, showing her joy and confidence in her performances and her team, and the work she and her coworkers put in to get here. (Plus, another win for the Karma album theory truthers ; one fan spotted an orange coat , as evidence of the album trapped in Taylor's vault.)

You can find the complete Taylor Swift Eras Tour setlist below:

“Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” “Cruel Summer” “The Man” “You Need to Calm Down” “Lover” “The Archer” “Fearless “You Belong With Me” “Love Story” “Tis the Damn Season” “Willow” “Marjorie” “Champagne Problems” “Tolerate It” “…Ready for It?” “Delicate” “Don’t Blame Me” “Look What You Made Me Do” “Enchanted” “22” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” “I Knew You Were Trouble” “All Too Well (10-Minute Version)” “Seven” (poetry version) “Invisible String” “Betty” “The Last Great American Dynasty” “August”/ “Illicit Affairs” “My Tears Ricochet” “Cardigan” “Style” “Blank Space” “Shake It Off” “Wildest Dreams” “Bad Blood” “Mirrorball” (acoustic) “Tim McGraw” (acoustic) “Lavender Haze” “Anti-Hero” “Midnight Rain” “Vigilante Shit” “Bejeweled” “Mastermind” “Karma”

Taylor Swift is a 'mastermind' on Eras Tour -- even in the 'midnight' rain

by LIZ BATESON | WJAR

When Taylor Swift said “meet me in the pouring rain,” she meant it.

The pop superstar took a sold-out, 70,000 person crowd through a journey of 17 years of music at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts Saturday night -- in downpours.

The midnight rain didn’t stop her , as she showcased her evolution as an artist during a 3.5 hour setlist made up of 45-songs from each era of her music.

Opening acts Gayle and Phoebe Bridgers took the stage first. Gayle showcased her grit and universality with a poprock sound, performing classics like “Bennie and the Jets” and more modern music, like her hit song “abcedfu.”

Phoebe Bridgers changed the pace with an indie folk sound, performing songs like “Motion Sickness“ and “I Know The End" that highlight her raw talent and lyricism. Bridgers, whom Swift said is one of the "best songwriters and coolest artists", would later come back on stage with Swift to perform their duet “Nothing New.”

It was then time for the much-anticipated event: The Taylor Takeover.

She kicked things off with 2019’s Lover album, which may have been a nod to the tour being cancelled a few cruel summers ago due to the pandemic. In a bedazzled bodysuit and studded boots, Swift sang hits like “The Man,” “Lover” and “The Archer."

The next stop was Fearless, an album she described as a journey “back to high school.” Fearless was released when Swift was just 18-years old and became her first number one album, spending 11 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200.

Paying ode to that breakthrough moment in time for her, Swift got the crowd jumping on their feet with performances of “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story.”

The stage then transformed into a forest for her Evermore era. Evermore is the sister album to Swift’s pandemic-release album Folklore.

Swift told the crowd she was nervous about chatter that stadium tours would never bounce back post-pandemic, but rather than mull on that, she decided to make art to “try to connect” with her fans.

She certainly did just that. Keeping the stadium on their feet through the rain, fans stayed captivated with her heartfelt songs like “Marjorie” and “Willow.” Both songs are poetic and retrospective in tone.

During this setlist, Swift took the time to reflect on her journey with Foxborough fans, telling the crowd the first time she ever “experienced a rain show was in this stadium.”

She added, “the whole day it was going to rain and my team and I, we really didn’t know what that meant for the crowd because in my mind that meant, ‘the crowd is going to want to have a nice evening, therefore, they are not going to want to get rained on the whole night, right?’

Instead, she recalls how the crowd didn’t shy away from the raindrops and she says that's taught her a lesson she’s taken with her on every tour since: “The fans and crowds in the New England, Boston, Foxborough, Massachusetts area do not care if it rains. Instead, that kind of makes it more fun for you!”

In perhaps the biggest show of her evolution as an artist, Swift then takes us to her Reputation era. The album is known to be categorized as her rebellious era and her performances depicted just that.

Sporting a black and red asymmetrical bodysuit with a snake projected on the jumbotron, she energized the crowd with songs like “Look What You Made Me Do,” “Delicate” and “Are You Ready For It?”

It’s a stark contrast from her Speak Now era, which came next. Swift performed just one song from that album, “Enchanted,” in a sparkling ball gown.

From there, it’s on to Red. This era captures a bouncy, young and carefree era of Swift. She performed hit songs like “22,” “We Are Never Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.”

She told the crowd how important it is for her to own her own music, which is why she’s re-recording all of her old albums. Swift is known to release “vault tracks”whenever she does so, which are songs that didn’t make the album the first go around. She decides to release them years later to give fans the "full picture" of that moment in time.

One of her most popular vault tracks has been “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)". Swift, joking with the crowd, asked if they had 10 minutes to spare as she performed that heartfelt, achingly beautiful track that represents the nostalgia and pain that comes with love lost.

It was then to a cabin in the woods for Folklore. This album really depicts the evolution of Swift, as she tells the crowd she went from writing eerily honest songs about her own life and experiences, to making up fictional storylines, hence the title Folklore.

This era was one of her longer set lists, performing songs like “Cardigan” and “Betty.” She also paid ode to her Watch Hill house, performing “The Last Great American Dynasty” in front of a coastal backdrop depicting the beautiful Rhode Island beaches.

She then seamlessly transitioned to an earlier era in time, 1989. Named after the year she was born, this album represents her transition to pop music, proving that Swifties stay loyal to her music no matter the genre.

This era was met with upbeat energy, with the backdrop depicting a cityscape as Swift dawned a lime green, sparkly two piece. She performed choreography alongside her back-up dancers (again, in the pouring rain) to hit songs like “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off.”

This led to a much-anticipated moment from all of Swift’s tours: her two surprise songs.

For night two at Foxborough, the surprise songs were “Question...?” off her latest album Midnights. Swift played an acoustic version of this, stopping a few lines in to soak in the moment, literally, telling the crowd “it’s really raining" and declaring it the "rainiest" rain show.

She then decided to change gears and performed the song "Invisible" off her very first album. Swift was stripped of the colorful lights, choreography and vibrant backdrops. Instead, it was just her, a piano and her powerful vocals, proving she really can do it all.

Switching gears once again, she put on a fur coat and sparkly t-shirt dress, ending the 3.5 hour marathon performance with songs off her latest album Midnights. The setlist consisted of the popular songs like “Lavender Haze,” “Anti-Hero” and “Bejeweled” before she capped things off with “Karma," as pyrotechnics shot into the night sky.

All in all, it was a triumphant return to touring for Swift.

She's known for her captivating lyrics detailing romantic relationships and the highs and lows that come with them, but the Eras Tour highlighted how much she’s evolved as an artist over the last decade – and how much her fans have stood by her side, rain or shine.

Swift redefines what it means to be an artist. She’s more than a good voice; she is a storyteller, lyricist, performer and musician who continues to reinvent her legacy.

The Eras Tour was a spectacle like no other and "I don't know how it gets better than this." But Swift is a mastermind and will find a way to reinvent the wheel and continue to take her fans on an enchanted journey.

A big thank you to Tree Paine & Dana Lobb with Premium PR who provided the tickets to this event.

Taylor Swift can make even a dark AMC shimmer.

Seated at the world premiere of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” in Los Angeles, California, the widely worshipped Grammy winner sang and danced her way through the concert film ’s two hours and 48 minutes’ of songs — frequently mirroring the exact gestures seen on screen and pantomiming the use of a microphone to giddily perform for friends in her row.

“We pranced on that stage grinning because of what met us on the other side. And that was you, how much you cared about it,” Swift said. “You absolutely are main characters in this film because that’s what made the tour magical. That’s what made it different than anything I’ve ever done in my life is your attention to detail, your preparation, your passion, your intensity. You cared so much about these shows and that made all the difference for us.”

The singer/songwriter sensation introduced her film to an audience of press, devoted fans, and admiring celebrities at AMC The Grove on Wednesday, October 11 around 8:30 p.m. The open-air luxury mall closed for the entire day to accommodate the event and saw roughly 2,200 Swifties taking over every auditorium in the theater. Moviegoers flooded the mid-city multiplex — freshly adorned with pink and purple flowers and countless portraits of Swift — just hours after the “Midnights” artist announced that the movie’s release date has been moved up . Showings in the U.S. and Canada will now begin Thursday instead of Friday due to “unprecedented demand.”

Swift does not perform “The Archer” or “cardigan” in “The Eras Tour” movie, despite those tracks appearing on the show’s main set list. And although the movie was shot during her six-night stint at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Swift’s “no body, no crime” performance with opener HAIM similarly does not appear. (In other cities, Swift performed “’tis the damn season,” but that didn’t make the movie either.) “Long Live” makes the cut, but instead of appearing in the main film the fan-favorite track is used as music for the end credits.

For her acoustic set, which changes between performances, Swift sings “Our Song” and “You’re On Your Own, Kid.” (Notably, those numbers appeared during different nights at SoFi.) Fans concerned the MPAA’s one f-bomb per PG-13 movie rule would require Swift to censor herself can rest assured that her more adult lyrics in the songs “betty,” “champagne problems,” and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” remain as originally written. “ Fuck the patriarchy! ” was hit especially hard by the movie audience, which leaned more concert-goer than quiet cinephile with some dedicated attendees standing the entire time.

Beyoncé appeared with Swift on the red carpet, while Simu Liu, Hayley Kiyoko, Maren Morris, and more big names joined her in the theater. Adam Sandler, who jammed his ever-living heart out to “Midnight Rain,” came with his daughter and sat a few rows behind Swift. The pop legend hugged them both on her way out. Karamo Brown, who appeared in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video with the rest of Netflix’s “Queer Eye” cast in 2019, was also there to show his support.

(*) Fans looking to sit where Taylor sat should find AMC The Grove’s Auditorium 2, Row F, Seat 11.

“Oh, hi, guys! Hello! Hi! You’re stuck with me because I’m going to sit with you and watch this thing. But before we do that, I wanted to say thank you for wanting to spend your evening with us. This is, as we would say, a core memory for me. Let me just preface by saying I’ve always had fun doing this. I can’t believe music is my career. That’s crazy to me. I’ve always loved it. But I’ve never had a fraction of the amount of fun I had on The Eras Tour before ever.

I have friends in this room. I have my amazing backing vocalists in this room. And let me just say, my fellow performers on the stage — the dancers, the band, my backing vocalists — they would go out on stage every single night, in sickness or in health, in any weather conditions we would face, regardless of what was going on in our lives. We pranced on that stage grinning because of what met us on the other side. And that was you, how much you cared about it. That was absolutely everything. I think you’ll see that you absolutely are main characters in this film because that’s what made the tour magical. That’s what made it different than anything I’ve ever done in my life is your attention to detail, your preparation, your passion, your intensity. You cared so much about these shows and that made all the difference for us. It made us want to add even more shows and just keep doing the tour.

I am so proud of this film. Sam Wrench is our amazing director. He’s absolutely incredible. We have an amazing team of camera operators and editors and everyone in post-production and I am so honored by all of their work and their dedication to this. And I think I’ll just watch it with you now. Let’s have a blast, guys. Thank you for coming.” —Taylor Swift

All 48 songs in taylor swift: the eras tour movie (taylor's version), ranked worst to best.

It is impossible for Swifties to pick a favorite song in the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie, but some performances highlight the music better.

  • Ranking every song in Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is challenging due to the exceptional performances and diverse eras represented.
  • The concert movie, now titled Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) , showcases Swift's dazzling lyrics through distinct performances for each era.
  • Fans can now enjoy the full 3.5-hour movie on Disney+, allowing multiple viewings to appreciate and select their favorite performances.

Ranking every song in the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is no easy feat. The concert movie captures a musical performance the likes of which has never been seen before, showcasing the music of Swift’s 10 albums. Swift's concert was edited into a shorter movie for its theatrical release , but the version now available to stream on Disney+ is three and a half hours long.

The movie’s title is now Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) due to the differences between it and the theatrical version. Using Swift's dazzling lyrics as a starting point, the Eras Tour team created performances to elevate each era. This Swiftie experience is now more widely accessible, and fans can watch every song in the Eras Tour movie multiple times before deciding on their favorite performance.

48 Blank Space

“Blank Space” is a fun number that utilizes the stage to depict a car on one of the screens, which Swift’s dancers destroy with golf clubs. However, “Blank Space” is less impactful when the highlights of the era are other songs. Additionally, some of the music video’s elements are turned into neon light props, a departure from the classic aesthetics.

9 Ways Watching Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour On Disney+ Will Be Different From Theaters

47 i can see you, speak now era.

"I Can See You" makes its way into the movie as part of the post-credits "Acoustic Collection." Swift highlights "I Can See You" as a song that she has never before performed live, making it an excellent addition. However, the song does sound better with some additional instrumentals, but the fans are still thrilled to sing along.

In a live concert, the acoustic set only includes two songs. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) includes a post-credits scene with six acoustic songs, comprising footage from different performances.

46 Bad Blood

The “Bad Blood” music video combines the aesthetics of several sci-fi movies. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough time for a major costume change to lean into the best parts of "Bad Blood." The flames shooting from parts of the set are great, but even Swift slipping into a leather trench coat would have made the performance so much more fun.

45 We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Swift wears a shimmering red and black ombré leotard for a number that falls short of the days when it was performed with a whole circus troupe.

While “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is loads of fun, it doesn’t do much to set itself apart from the first song of the Red set. Swift wears a shimmering red and black ombré leotard for a number that falls short of the days when it was performed with a whole circus troupe. The backup dancers at least bring plenty of campy drama.

44 Mastermind

Midnights era.

Midnights is at the end of the Eras Tour because it is the most recent era; if it were not, “Mastermind” probably wouldn’t be in the show. The staging works for what the song is, with the dancers moving like clockwork over a chessboard stage. However, it has the disadvantage of falling between “Bejeweled” and “Karma.”

43 I Knew You Were Trouble

“I Knew You Were Trouble,” like “Never Getting Back Together,” must make do with what is set up with the introduction of the Red era. Which song is “better” performed honestly comes down to a matter of personal preference. However, “I Knew You Were Trouble” uses the fog machines well for some dramatic flair.

42 Tolerate It

Evermore era.

The evermore era simply doesn’t have as many showstoppers; “no body, no crime is still missing from the Eras Tour movie . The song “tolerate it” has heartbreaking lyrics but is one of the slower moments of the concert. However, the Eras team makes a valiant and effective effort to make it concert-worthy, with Swift and one of the dancers acting out a relevant scene.

Eras Tour Performer Guide: Every Taylor Swift Backup Dancer & Vocalist In The Concert Movie

"Archer" is a moment of soft awe at the end of the Lover set; Swift performs the song alone on stage. Her choreography is great and her disappearing into a supernova-like graphic is a nice touch. However, it is a less fitting end to Lover than "Lover" itself, which was still a gentle finale.

40 ...Ready For It?

Reputation era.

"Ready For It" is the on-the-nose (not in a bad way) intro to Reputation. Swift is joined by a retinue of dancers, all in serpent-decorated costumes, and the moving levels of the stage are well-used to add some dynamism to the choreography. However, a lot of elements are reused for "Don't Blame Me," which is also a better song.

39 Midnight Rain

Another song from Midnights that probably won't be in the next concert is "Midnight Rain." The effects are lovely, incorporating glittery rain graphics and umbrellas, but it doesn't stand out amid the Midnights set. It does, however, get credit for Swift's change into her blue bodysuit and the dancers' solo moments.

38 Death By A Thousand Cuts

Swift calls "Death By A Thousand Cuts" "one of [her] favorites." The perfectly bittersweet tune of the song sounds great with just the acoustics. "Death By A Thousand Cuts" isn't the best song played in the acoustic set and doesn't have the biggest reaction, but is amazing nonetheless.

37 Delicate

“Delicate” is strangely pleasant when compared to the other songs of the Reputation era. Swift is on her own on stage for this one, smiling knowingly as she sings. The cracks forming around her on the stage elevate some of the themes of the song. It is not the biggest showstopper, but it balances out Reputation .

36 Lavender Haze

“Lavender Haze” is a brilliant song that is the perfect entry into the Midnights era. However, its set pieces bring it down. Swift’s lavender faux fur coat is magnificent, but the lavender clouds wheeled in on ladders are perhaps the only part of the Eras Tour that can be called bad — they just look like Styrofoam.

35 You Need To Calm Down

This divisive song of Swift's is tons of fun to sing along to. While the design isn’t the most creative, the rainbow lights are a great way to emphasize that "You Need To Calm Down" was written to support the LGBTQ+ community, with some sassy lyrics that are perfect for dismissing internet trolls.

34 Love Story

Fearless era.

Every song from the Fearless era holds a particularly special status, especially "Love Story." The Fearless set's aesthetic suits "You Belong With Me" and "Fearless" better than it does "Love Story." However, Swifties will always sing "Love Story" with the same passion they did when it first came out.

33 You Are In Love

As a soft-spoken song with gentle instrumentals, "You Are In Love" is a great song for Swift to play on the piano. The falsetto notes echo throughout the stadium for a sweet and simple moment. Additionally, Swift takes pauses and almost whispers some lyrics to convey a breathless feeling at the beginning.

32 Long Live

“Enchanted” and “Long Live” are certainly the two Speak Now tracks that deserved to emerge, years later, as the preeminent songs of the era.

“Enchanted” and “Long Live” are certainly the two Speak Now tracks that deserved to emerge, years later, as the preeminent songs of the era. However, "Long Live’s" staging doesn’t quite meet the song’s tone. Yet even standing stationary with her band, Swift gives the joyous, tear-jerking song its due.

Folklore Era

The atmosphere of “betty” is always happy, possibly because it isn't about Swift herself. The fictional “betty” characters are named for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s children , and Swift seems to have as much fun performing it as she did writing it. It doesn’t have the theatricality of other moments; however, this is characteristic of the folklore era.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Movie Re-Adding Cardigan On Disney+ Is More Important Than You Realize

“The Man” also stands out with different themes and musical styles than most of the rest of Lover. However, the costumes and sets make the performance of “The Man” decidedly more interesting. Swift slips into a glittery blazer and works her way up the stairs of an office building, surrounded by other performers in office attire.

29 Don't Blame Me

Swift hits some of the same beats as “Ready For It” during “Don’t Blame Me,” which are elevated by the latter song’s steady tune and long notes. The backup singers are also now wearing long sparkling black dresses, for an old-school vibe. It all leads up to the epic transition into “Look What You Made Me Do.”

Taylor has 'reset' the surprise song list, which means anyone attending a show in 2024 can anticipate hearing a song she's already performed. She previously stated that she will only play each surprise song once during the tour, unless she messes one up.

There's also no rules for Taylor repeating songs from Midnights as surprise songs, which means fans may get to hear the likes of 'You're On Your Own Kid' and 'Snow on the Beach' again at some point in the future.

We'll update this article with every Surprise Acoustic Song – and every surprise song that she will play again – after every show.

As of March 9th 2024, the Eras Tour setlist has remained the same as the U.S. leg. However, with the release of The Tortured Poets Department in April, things could change. More on that further down the page.

Fans attending the European shows might end up hearing Taylor perform 'Castles Crumbling' with Hayley Williams as an additional song during the Speak Now section, as Paramore will be supporting her throughout those tour dates. (Both Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM joined Taylor on stage to perform 'Nothing New' and 'No Body, No Crime' respectively on the nights they were support acts.)

After completing her shows in South America, Australia, Japan and Singapore, Taylor is now set to pick the tour back up in Europe in May 2024 and run through to mid-August, before returning to North America in November 2024.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department ?

Taylor's brand new album will be released on April 19th, just before she embarks on the European leg of the Eras Tour.

We won't know for sure whether or not the official setlist will change to accommodate those songs until she kicks off the Eras Tour in Paris on May 9th.

It's unclear if she will add a new TTPD section to the tour, but it's looking very likely that Taylor will perform some of those new songs as surprise songs. We'll update this article as soon as we know more!

What are Taylor's most performed songs on tour?

Before she embarked on The Eras Tour, Taylor’s top 3 most performed songs are ‘Love Story’ (491 times), ‘Our Song’ (404 times) and ‘You Belong With Me’ (381 times).

Of course, almost all of Taylor’s most performed songs are from her first two albums. As the list goes on, the Speak Now bops, Red bangers and 1989 hits start to weave their way in.

If you’re wondering what Taylor’s most played songs from her first five albums are, here’s a break down:

  • Taylor Swift : ‘Our Song’, ‘Tim McGraw’ and ‘Picture To Burn’
  • Fearless: ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Fifteen’
  • Speak Now : ‘Sparks Fly’, ‘Mean’ and ‘Mine’
  • Red : ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’, ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and ‘Red’
  • 1989 : ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Out of the Woods’

Taylor has only had the chance to perform songs from Reputation on the Reputation Stadium Tour so far, but ‘Ready For It?’, ‘Delicate’ and ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ take the top spots when it comes to live performances of the Rep tracks.

Due to the cancellation of Lover Fest, Taylor hasn’t been able to perform Lover on a tour setting. Folklore, Evermore and Midnights will also be making their tour debut on the Eras Tour.
