Fifteen-year-old Finishes Tied for 20th at Korn Ferry Tour Event in Florida

Miles Russell became the youngest player in the Tour's history to make a cut, then shot a final-round 66 to earn a spot in next week's event.

  • Author: Bob Harig

Getting to play in a professional event as a freshman in high school was a nice perk for Miles Russell. Now he is likely to to extend the experience by a week.

Russell, 15, who became the youngest player to make a cut in a Korn Ferry Tour event, shot a final-round 66 on Sunday at the LECOM Suncoast Classic in Bradenton, Fla., to shoot up the leaderboard and eventually finish in a tie for 20th place at 14 under par.

A player who finishes among the top 25 in a Korn Ferry event is eligible to play the following week.

With a bogey at the 18th hole at Lakewood National, Russell was tied for 15th when he finished his round.

Playing on a sponsor’s exemption, Russell had hoped to accomplish his stated goal of finishing among the top 25. He shot rounds of 66-66 to make the cut then had a 70 on Saturday before his final-round score enabled him to qualify for the Veritex Bank Championship in Arlington, Texas.

Last year, Russell broke a record held by Tiger Woods when he was youngest player to be named American Junior Golf Association player of the year. He lives in Jacksonville Beach, Fla.

Phil Mickelson praised his fellow lefty on X (formerly Twitter) for “playing such incredible golf.”

Earlier in the week, Russell told reporters that he had been given a sponsor’s exemption to play in the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship in November.

“I knew it was going to be a good test to see where I am against some of the best,” Russell said after making the cut. “It’s definitely something I’ll remember even when times get hard. I’ll remember it when that happens and go with the flow.”

15-year-old Miles Russell finishes among top 25 in Korn Ferry Tour event, qualifies for next tournament

Russell, a high school freshman, was the youngest golfer to make the cut at an korn ferry tour event.

LECOM Suncoast Classic - Final Round

You've probably heard of shooting your age. Have you heard of leaderboard positioning your age? Not that impressive if you're 53-year-old Phil Mickelson, but what about when you're 15-year-old Miles Russell playing your first professional event?

Russell didn't quite make it to 15th place on the leaderboard at the 2024 LECOM Suncoast Classic, but a final-round 66 placed him T20 in the field, leading to a qualification for next week's event on the Korn Ferry Tour, the Veritex Bank Championship in Arlington, Texas.

"I drove it great today," he said. "That was probably the big difference between the first three holes yesterday and the first three holes today. ... My iron play on the back side was the best iron play I had all week."

Russell opened 68-66 to make the cut, becoming the youngest player ever to do so in a Korn Ferry Tour event. He's also just oen of two golfers younger than 16 to make a cut in a PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour event, joining Guan Tian Liang.

Making the cut was Russell's goal, he said earlier in the week. The 66 on Sunday was simply icing for the No. 1-ranked junior player in the world , who is breaking every record he looks at these days between being homeschooled.

"I came out thinking, 'Get off to a good start,'" he said Sunday, implying that he was thinking about finishing in that top 25. "... Be patient and let it come to me, and it did."

Not only is he the youngest player in Korn Ferry Tour history to make the cut at an event, he also also took over a record held by perhaps the best to ever do it when, last fall, Russell surpassed Tiger Woods as the youngest AJGA Boys Junior Player of the Year.

Though Russell is not yet old enough to join the Korn Ferry Tour, he could theoretically keep playing his way into tournaments with continuous top 25 finishes as the season rolls on. Players from the prior week's top 25 are eligible to play in the following week's tournament.

Russell, who is the reigning Junior Players Championship and Boy's Junior PGA Championship winner, played this week at Lakewood National Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, on a sponsor exemption.

Rick Gehman, Kyle Porter, Patrick McDonald and Greg DuCharme discuss Scottie Scheffler's hold on the RBC Heritage, Nelly Korda's fifth straight victory and Miles Russell finishing top 25 as a 15 year old. Follow & listen to The First Cut on  Apple Podcasts  and  Spotify .

Miles Russell, LECOM Suncoast Classic

Miles Russell started playing golf at two years old and first broke par at the age of six.

Nine years after shooting under par for the first time, Russell made the cut in a Korn Ferry Tour event, becoming the youngest player ever to do so.

“That’s pretty cool, I did not know that,” Russell said after making the cut at the LECOM Suncoast Classic.

“That’s a cool [record] to have.”

Russell shot a 3-under 68 in the opening round and carded a 5-under 66 during Friday’s second round—a round that featured a pair of eagles on the opening nine.

“I’m kind of speechless. The goal was to make the cut, and we made it, so we’ll see where the weekend goes,” Russell added.

“It’s a cool record to break. People are getting so good, so young. It could hold out for a week. You never know, but it’s pretty cool right now.”

Only one other player under the age of 16 has ever made the cut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. At the 2013 Masters Tournament , Guan Tian Liang of China—at 14 years old—made it to the weekend. He also made the cut at the 2013 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Nevertheless, Russell surpassed the Korn Ferry Tour record set by Gipper Finau— Tony Finau’s brother—at the 2006 Utah Championship. At the time, Finau was 16 years old.

LECOM Suncoast Classic

Now, Russell—the number one ranked player within the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA)—has had a tremendous opportunity to see how his game compares to that of professionals.

“I knew it was going to be a good test to see where I am against some of the best,” Russell said.

“It’s definitely something I’ll remember, even when times get hard. I’ll remember it when that happens and go with the flow.”

So far, Russell has passed the test with flying colors. Despite his young age, he looks the part of a future star.

His calm demeanor is just another reason why Russell has had so much success in Florida this week.

“Kind of keep trying to do what I’ve been doing,” Russell said Friday.

“I don’t know what the weather looks like in the next few days, but I think it’s pretty much the same. I mean, have a day like today, maybe make a few fewer mistakes, and see how it goes.”

With Russell making the cut, he has his sights set on another goal: finishing in the top 25. That could lead to another opportunity on the Korn Ferry Tour next week at the Veritex Bank Championship in Texas, but Russell is not getting ahead of himself too much—just like a seasoned pro.

Still, further opportunities will surely present themselves to this budding young star.

15-year-old dazzles on Korn Ferry Tour in record-breaking performance

Most 15 year olds are training for their driver’s tests, lining up summer jobs and getting ready for prom. Not Miles Russell, though. He’s busy competing at the highest levels of golf.

Russell, 15, is playing in the Korn Ferry Tour ‘s LECOM Suncoast Classic this week in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. — and he’s playing quite well, too. He posted rounds of 68 and 66 over the first 36 holes for an eight-under total, good for a made cut with three strokes to spare.

“I’m kind of speechless,” Russell said. “The goal was to make the cut and we made it, so we’ll see where the weekend goes.”

With the made cut, Russell cemented his spot in the record books. At 15 years, five months and 17 days old, the teenager is now the youngest player to ever make a cut in a Korn Ferry Tour event. He also joins Guan Tian Liang as the only players younger than 16 to make a cut in a PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour event.

“It’s a cool record to break,” Russell said. “I don’t know how much longer — I mean, people are getting so good, so young. It could hold out for a week, you never know, but it’s pretty cool right now.”

This week marked the teenager’s debut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event as he received a sponsor’s exemption in his home state of Florida. And as soon as he arrived on the scene, he proved he belonged.

Russell birdied four of his first five holes during the opening round on his way to a three-under 68. He returned the following day and bested the score by two strokes — highlighted by a pair of eagles — on his way to the record.

“I didn’t really have any [expectations],” he said. “The goal was to make the cut and kind of see where that could go if I did, see how it goes this weekend.”

Russell is among the most promising young junior golfers in the country. Last year he became the youngest player to ever win AJGA Player of the Year, surpassing the mark set by Tiger Woods, and he’s already inked an NIL deal with Transcend Capital Advisors.

As far as the next generation of stars goes, Russell is a can’t-miss prospect.

“I knew it was going to be a good test to see where I am against some of the best,” Russell said. “It’s definitely something I’ll remember even when times will get hard, I’ll remember it when that happens and go with the flow.”

Miles Russell, 15, makes history again, ties for 20th on Korn Ferry

Two days after he became the youngest player ever to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, Miles Russell notched another pretty cool achievement for a 15-year-old.

He finished tied for 20th in the event.

Russell, the reigning American Junior Golf Association Player of the Year, closed with a 5-under 66 on Sunday at the Lecom Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, finishing 6 shots behind winner Tim Widing . He became the youngest player since at least 1983 to finish in the top 25 in a Korn Ferry Tour or PGA Tour event.

An amateur playing on a sponsor's exemption, Russell won't pocket any money for the finish. But he did qualify for next week's Korn Ferry event, the Veritex Bank Championship in Texas, as a result of finishing in the top 25.

What a week for Miles Russell 👏 pic.twitter.com/eWqa8CmQjD — Korn Ferry Tour (@KornFerryTour) April 21, 2024

"It was an awesome week," he said. "It was a blast."

Russell was outside the top 25 entering Sunday, but he surged 28 spots up the leaderboard thanks to a final round that included seven birdies in a 10-hole stretch.

"You're always nervous," he said of the final round. "So definitely the start of the round [I had nerves], but they kind of relaxed as we got kind of settled in and maybe a little bit more toward the end. But it was good.

"I just kind of try to go with the flow and take it as it comes to me and just try and stay cool."

The closing 66 matched his low round of the event; he posted the same score Friday to make history on the PGA Tour's developmental circuit. At 15 years, 5 months and 17 days, he became the youngest ever to make the cut; Gipper Finau , the younger brother of PGA Tour star Tony Finau , had the previous record, doing so at the 2006 Utah Championship, when he was 16 years, 20 days.

Big achievements on the golf course, though, are nothing new for Russell.

In 2023, the left-hander from Florida won the Junior PGA Championship by 7 shots and became the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship. He won the AJGA Player of the Year award at a younger age than Tiger Woods .

Last month, he lost out in a playoff in a Monday qualifier for the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open.

China's Guan Tianlang is the youngest to make the cut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. He was 14 when he made the cut in the 2013 Masters, playing as the Asia-Pacific Amateur champion.

Widing became a first-time Korn Ferry winner, beating Steven Fisk and Patrick Cover in a playoff.

Fifteen-year-old Miles Russell made a hard push up the leaderboard at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic, rising to as high as tied for third place.

Russell shot a final-round 66 and was 14-under-par for the week at the event at Lakewood National in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. After a bogey on 18 he was tied for 15th as he walked off the course. He finished in a 10-way tie for 20th place.

Russell, who is 15 years, five months and 19 days old, became the youngest player to make the cut in a Korn Ferry Tour event after shooting first- and second-round scores of 68 and 66, including a front-nine 31 on Thursday.

The left-handed Russell followed that up with a 70 on Saturday, well within his stated goal of a top 25 in his first professional start (he’s playing on a sponsor exemption). He did far better than that, grabbing an early birdie on the par-4 4th, then going birdie-birdie-bogey-birdie-birdie-par-birdie-birdie over the next eight holes. That’s 6 birdies, one par and one bogey against two par 3s, three par 4s and three par 5s.

With a top-25 finish, Russell is automatically eligible for next week’s Veritex Bank Championship in Arlington, Texas.

Russell and Guan Tian Liang are the only players younger than 16 to make a cut in a PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour event. Russell drew praise from Phil Mickelson on X , the latter giving a fellow left-handed golfer praise for “playing such incredible golf.”

He broke one of Tiger Woods’ records last year, becoming the youngest player to be named the AJGA Player of the Year. Russell, who is from Jacksonville Beach, Fla., is a high school freshman who has also won the Junior PGA and Junior Players Championship events. He shot a 66 at TPC Sawgrass in the latter. Russell said that he began playing golf at age 2 and broke par by age 6.

Russell told reporters Friday that he has a sponsor exemption into the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship in November. In the meantime, he expects to continue to play AJGA events as well as elite amateur tournaments.

More Miles-tones: Miles Russell shoots 66 to become youngest to make Korn Ferry Tour cut

One of these days, Miles Russell will be too old to set records and milestones based on his youth.

Russell, a 15-year-old Jacksonville Beach resident, made two eagles in the second round of the LECOM Suncoast Classic on Friday at the Lakewood National Commander Course and with a 66 became the youngest in history to make the cut at a Korn Ferry Tour event.

Russell eagled the 282-yard par-4 fourth hole when he drove the green and made a 15-foot putt, then dropped a 30-foot putt for eagle at the par-5 ninth hole, kicking off a streak of three holes that he played at 4-under.

Russell turned and birdied Nos. 10 and 11 and played the rest of his round at 1-over to easily make the 5-under cut at 8-under 134. He made an 8-foot putt for par at the last hole.

Michelle Wie is the youngest, at 13, to play in a Korn Ferry Tour event but did not qualify for the weekend. The youngest player to make the cut at a PGA Tour event was Guan Tian Liang of China in 2013, at the Masters and the Zurich Classic.

Russell calls breaking the record 'cool'

"That's a cool one for me," Russell said during a post-round media availability. "It's a cool record, and hopefully it will get broken."

Miles Russell's name is now etched in the history books. He became the youngest player to make the cut in a Korn Ferry Tour event after a 68-66 in the opening two rounds at the LECOM Suncoast Classic. — Korn Ferry Tour (@KornFerryTour) April 20, 2024

Russell said he’s not awed by his surroundings.

"I knew it was going to be a good test to see where I am against some of the best," Russell said. "It's definitely something I'll remember even when times will get hard; I'll remember it when that happens and go with the flow."

Russell hit nine of 13 fairways for the second round in a row and found 13 of 18 greens in the second round.

What other records has Miles Russell set?

Russell is the youngest to accomplish the following:

Youngest Junior Players champion.

Youngest American Junior Golf Association Player of the Year .

Youngest to play in the Junior Ryder Cup.

Youngest First Coast resident to play in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. David Duval was the previous youngest, qualifying for the 1990 U.S. Open at the age of 18.

What’s next for Miles Russell?

Russell will tee off at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the third round, and he will play with two professionals who both are more than double his age: Tain Lee, who is 33 years old, and Billy Kennerly, who is 31.

Lee is from Columbia, Md., and Kennerly from Seattle. Kennerly played college golf at Clemson.

Russell said he's trying not to look ahead.

"The goal was to make the cut and we made it, so we'll see where the weekend goes," he said. "It's a cool record to break. I don't know how much longer ... people are getting so good, so young. It could hold out for a week, you never know, but it's pretty cool right now."

High school freshman claims one of junior golf's biggest honors, breaks a 32-year-old Tiger Woods record to do it

Breaking records is always fun. Breaking records previously held by Tiger Woods, well that’s more than fun. It’s humbling.

On Wednesday, Miles Russell celebrated his 15th birthday. On Thursday, he was named the American Junior Golf Association’s Rolex Boys Player of the Year, topping Tiger Woods’ mark as the youngest winner of the honor given out by the prestigious junior association every year since 1979. In 1991, when Woods claimed the award for the first of two consecutive years, he was 15 years, 10 months and two days old.

Russell’s résumé in 2023 was indeed impressive with four wins in eight national junior tournaments. The high school freshman from Jacksonville Beach, Fla., became the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in September after winning the Boy’s Junior PGA Championship in August.

While Russell is the youngest boy to win the title, he’s not the youngest winner ever. Three times a 14 year old has won Girls honor. Inbee Park was the youngest ever, winning when she was 14 years, four months and 21 days old in 2022.

Joining Russell in getting the ultimate recognition for her year-long performance is Yana Wilson, the winner of the Rolex Girls POY award. The 17-year-old from Henderson, Nev., is set to play college golf next year at the University of Oregon. This past summer, Wilson won the junior title at the LPGA’s Mizuho Americas Open (the event Rose Zhang claimed her first pro title). Wilson also won the AJGA Girls Invitational and had either second or third place finishes in four other significant national events. This comes a year after she claimed the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur title. She’s also previously won her age group twice at the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National.

Wilson’s profile as a junior golfer has garnered the attention of various business interested in signing her to NIL deals. Miles Russell, at 15, sets Korn Ferry Tour record as the youngest player to make the cut

Miles Russell carded a 5-under 66 Friday, as the 15-year-old easily made the cut, and history, at the Korn Ferry Tour's LECOM Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

LONGWOOD, Fla. — Miles Russell became the youngest player to make the cut in the 35-year history of the Korn Ferry Tour when the 15-year-old posted a 5-under 66 Friday in the Lecom Suncoast Classic.

Russell opened with a 68 and left little doubt he would be sticking around all four days. He made a pair of eagles on the front nine, one of them on the 282-yard, par-4 fourth hole, and then began the back nine with two straight birdies.

He goes into the weekend six shots out of the lead. Brandon Crick shot a second round 9-under 62 to sit at 14-under for the tournament, one shot ahead of former PGA Tour player Morgan Hoffman.

Russell is a high school freshman from Jacksonville Beach, Fla., who has been taking online classes since the eighth grade.

The left-hander already is piling up some impressive credentials. He was the American Junior Golf Association player of the year in 2023, which included his seven-shot win in the Junior PGA Championship and becoming the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship.

Last month he nearly qualified for a PGA Tour event, losing out in a playoff in a Monday qualifier for the Puerto Rico Open. The Korn Ferry Tour is the PGA Tour’s top developmental circuit.

Guan Tianlang of China remains the youngest to make the cut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. He was 14 when he made the cut in the 2013 Masters, playing as the Asia-Pacific Amateur champion.

15-Year-Old Youngest to Finish Top-25 at PGA Tour in 41 Years: ‘An Awesome Week’

“When I play well, I think I can compete with some of the better pros," high schooler Miles Russell says

Douglas P. DeFelice/Getty

This time of the year, most 15-year-olds are indulging in the fun of spring break, but for one of golf’s youngest stars it’s spent playing in the PGA Tour — and breaking a record held for decades.

Miles Russell is balancing his time these days between being a typical teenager and also playing amongst the best professional golfers in the sport , where he is making history with his impressive skills just months away from his 16th birthday.

On Friday, Russell became the youngest player to make the Korn Ferry Tour — the PGA Tour’s developmental tour for underage players — breaking a record that was last set in 2006 by Gipper Finau.

That achievement however, was just the beginning. Saturday, during Russell’s third round at Lakewood National Golf Club’s Commander Course, he had a one-under 70 before finishing the final round with a five-under 66.

That impressive performance led him to tie for a 20th place finish at 14-under and made him the youngest player since 1983 to place in the Top-25 on the PGA Tour or the Korn Ferry Tour.

Russell, native of Jacksonville Beach, expressed his excitement following the tournament and his ranking. “It was an awesome week. I had a blast,” he recently told the PGA Tour .

“Especially for my first one, you may get a couple weird looks like: ‘Who’s the little kid on the range?’ But, you know, everybody was so nice and so helpful with everything,” Russell added.

The top-ranked boys prospect at the American Junior Golf Association, Russell says this weekend’s performance boosted his confidence  to play with the professionals.

“When I play well, I think I can compete with some of the better pros, but this week I played well and I think it kind of showed it a little bit. But a good play is always good.”

tour young miles

The biggest news in golf this week is what 15-year-old Jacksonville Beach native Miles Russell is doing at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Open at Lakewood National near Bradenton.

Russell became the youngest player to ever make the cut in a Korn Ferry Tour event (and the second-youngest to make the cut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event) when he shot 68-66—134 at the Commander Course to enter the weekend in a tie for 26 th . Russell made two eagles on the front nine of his second round and finished 8-under, six shots behind leader Brandon Crick.

His performance raises a number of questions. Here are some answers, courtesy of the PGA Tour:

Can Miles Russell turn professional?

There is no age restriction on someone declaring himself a professional golfer. Once he accepts prize money, that makes it official. However, Russell can’t accept the money for his finish this week at the Korn Ferry event because he entered the tournament as an amateur.

Can Miles Russell become a PGA Tour member?

Not until he's 18 years old. Those under that age can play in PGA Tour events and if they're professionals, they can accept the prize money. But he cannot participate in the FedEx Cup points race until then.

What are his options for playing PGA Tour events under the age of 18?

Russell can use Monday qualifiers and sponsor invitations, and if he wins a tournament, will have a two-year exemption. But according to the Tour, he will be capped at 12 starts per year until he's 18.

Can Miles Russell play in the major championships?

He can play in three of them by qualifying under various amateur standards. For example, being a finalist in the U.S. Amateur earns a spot in the Masters and U.S. Open, but if Russell remains an amateur. Winning the U.S. Amateur gets a ticket to the Masters, U.S. Open and British Open, but again, he will have to stay an amateur.

Russell can also qualify for the U.S. Open through local and sectional qualifiers, with no age limit. There is a similar regional qualifying system for the British Open.

Russell will have to be a professional to play in the PGA Championship.

Winning any of the majors also earns a five-year exemption in the other three majors.

Can Miles Russell play in The Players Championship?

Yes, if he wins a PGA Tour event, a major or is among the top 50 on the World Rankings. He would be a non-member until he's 18 and can't use the FedEx Cup points. If he wants to stay an amateur, he can't collect the money.

15-Year-Old Golf Phenom Miles Russell Inks NIL Deal With TaylorMade, Shoots 68 On Korn Ferry Tour

Miles Russell can't legally drive a car by himself, but that hasn't stopped him from making some serious moves in the world of golf. The 15-year-old has inked a number of NIL deals with major companies and, and based on the teenager's résumé, those look like very wise business decisions.

Just a month after Russell signed an NIL deal with Transcend Capital Advisors, TaylorMade Golf has acquired the signature of the young man.

"Miles’ record-setting success at his young age is nothing short of remarkable and we are excited he chose us to support him in his growth as a golfer to continue to accomplish his career goals," TaylorMade explained in a statement. "Identifying and developing the top junior talent in the world has always been a priority for us at TaylorMade. Miles and his family epitomize the type of athlete and human being we are looking to add to Team TaylorMade."

Referring to Russell as a "top junior talent" is an understatement.

The Jacksonville Beach resident became the youngest male player to be named the Rolex Junior Player of the Year in 2023. The previous record holder is a man by the name of Tiger Woods, who took home the honors when he was around 10 months older than Russell.

Russell is currently the No. 1 ranked junior player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and has won three AJGA events dating back to April 2023. Over the course of his last 10 starts on the premiere junior golf circuit, Russell's worst finish is a tie for 14th.

The young man received a sponsor's exemption into this week's LECOM Suncoast Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour, and didn't just hold his own against a field of professionals, he showed out with a first round score of 68.

He'll likely need to fire another 68, at worst, to make the cut and play on the weekend, but given his track record, that doesn't feel like too tall of a task, which is ridiculous given we're talking about a 15-year-old kid.

He’s not allowed to drive a car, but driving a golf ball isn’t an issue.

Miles Russell, a high school freshman from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, made history at a professional golf tournament over the weekend.

Playing on a sponsor’s exemption, Russell carded a 68 and 66 in the first two rounds of the LECOM Suncoast Classic to finish three strokes inside the 36-hole cut line. At 15 years, 5 months, 18 days, he became the youngest player to make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, surpassing Gipper Finau at the 2006 Utah Championship.

The Korn Ferry Tour is a developmental tour for the PGA Tour, which features professional golfers who have either not yet reached the PGA Tour, or who have done so but then failed to win enough FedEx Cup points to stay at the sport’s top level.

Russell, who went on to card a 1-under 70 in the third round and 5-under 66 in the final round at Lakewood National Golf Club’s Commander course, finished T20 at 14-under 270.

He’s the youngest player on record (since 1983) to notch a top-25 finish on the PGA TOUR or Korn Ferry Tour.

“It was an awesome week. It was a blast,” Russell said, according to the PGA Tour. “Especially for my first one, you may get a couple weird looks, like, ‘Who’s the little kid on the range?’ But, you know, everybody was so nice and so helpful with everything.”

“I just try to kind of go with flow and take it as it comes to me, and I’m trying to just stay cool. I was able to hit some good shots in the right moments.”

With the top-25 finish, Russell also qualifies for next week’s Veritex Bank Championship in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Fellow lefty Phil Mickelson was among many who took note of his performance over the weekend on social media.

“Miles Russell, a 15 year old left handed golfer made the cut in this week’s Korn Ferry event. This is an amazing accomplishment. It’s great to see a young lefty playing such incredible golf,” he posted to X

Russell is the AJGA’s top-ranked junior and champion of the Junior Players and Junior PGA Championship. He isn’t eligible to join the Korn Ferry Tour full-time for three years.

“When I play well, I think I can compete with some of the better pros, but this week I played well and I think it kind of showed it a little bit,” Russell said. “But good play is always good, and definitely confidence-boosting to finish where we’re going to finish today.”

Miles Russell becomes youngest champion in Junior PLAYERS history

By hailey hernandez, september 03, 2023.

Leaderboard

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida - Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, wins the 17th edition of The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by Rolex.

Russell, at just 14 years-old, becomes the youngest champion in event history with a tournament total of 9-under-par 207. At No. 2 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, Russell wins his first Invitational in his Junior PLAYERS Championship debut with three rounds of 70-66-71. His second-round 66 was also the lowest round of the tournament.

Right now I'm at an all-time high. It can't get much better than this. I got a tour of the TOUR locker room when I was younger and to be able to be here as a player in the field and be around all of these high-level players is something I dreamed about but never knew it would happen this fast.

The youngest champion prior to Russell was set in 2016 by 16-year-old Khavish Varadan of (Malaysia) Wesley Chapel, Florida. Varadan won in a playoff with a score of 10-under-par 206 in the only year Junior PLAYERS was held at Sawgrass Country Club (due to renovations on TPC Sawgrass).

Russell was bogey-free on the back nine and closed his round with two birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to seal a three-shot victory over Phillip Dunham of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. In his third time around TPC Sawgrass - THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, Russell totaled five birdies in his final round to help secure his first Invitational victory and third AJGA win of the season.

The 2027 grad entered the field as the top-ranked player, despite being almost five years younger than the oldest competitors. Russell, who turns 15 on November 1, is also tied for the most AJGA wins this season, now with three. Russell won back-to-back Junior All-Star events in April before competing in his first Invitational, where he finished runner-up at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May. The hometown favorite also won the Boy's Junior PGA Championship earlier this month.

This is way better than any other tournaments I've played in. This is awesome. There's so many good players and to be able to play in a field like this is a real test. I played in the Junior-Am here two years ago and knew I wanted to compete here when I was older some day. I tried to get in this event last year and it didn't work, but to be here now just two years later is an amazing accomplishment.

In second place, Dunham finished at 6-under-par 210 in his Junior PLAYERS debut. Dunham is No. 12 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and had a final round score of 3-under-par 69, tying the low final round.

In third place, Will Hartman of Marvin, N.C., finished in third at 3-under-par 213. At No. 15 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, Hartman was playing in his second Junior PLAYERS Championship and this is his best finish of the year.

Rounding out the top 10 are:

  • 4: Tyler Watts (-2) of Huntsville, Alabama
  • 5: Hugo Le Goff (-1) of Melun, France
  • T6: Sterling Hurd (E) of Austin, Texas
  • T6: Tyler Mawhinney (E) of Fleming Island, Florida
  • 8: Lev Grinberg (+1) of Brasschaat, Belgium
  • T9: Asher Whitaker (+2) of Wichita, Kansas
  • T9: Jackson Byrd (+2) of Saint Simons Island, Georgia

Junior PLAYERS - 2023 - Top ten

Thanks to a longtime partnership between the PGA TOUR and the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), 78 of the world's top-ranked male junior golfers, invited through the Rolex AJGA Rankings, competed in a 54-hole, stroke-play event mirroring THE PLAYERS Championship setup and hole locations.

The 17th annual Junior PLAYERS Championship showcased the best of the next generation of future college and professional stars. To date, 53 past players have graduated to play in the PGA TOUR's PLAYERS Championship. Justin Thomas became the first Junior PLAYERS Championship alumni to win the professional event in 2021. He competed as a junior in 2008 and 2009.

Scottie Scheffler was the second Junior PLAYERS competitor to win The PLAYERS in 2023 after competing three years in the event as a junior and being named the AJGA's 2013 Rolex Junior Player of the Year.

Representatives from a record-high 15 foreign countries are competing in one of the AJGA’s annual top fields, featuring seven of the top 10 boys in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Miles Russell, 15, receives sponsor exemption into Butterfield Bermuda Championship

Exemption awarded as reigning ajga boys junior player of the year.

Change Text Size

Miles Russell, 15, made waves last week on the Korn Ferry Tour, earning the right to play again this week. He'll also compete on the PGA TOUR this fall.

Russell will play the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in November on a sponsor exemption, the American Junior Golf Association announced Monday in a release. This marks the first tournament exemption in a partnership where the reigning AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year will receive an exemption into the PGA TOUR event at Port Royal Golf Course.

Miles Russell, 15, discusses final-round 66 at LECOM Suncoast Classic

Last year, Russell became the youngest AJGA Boys Junior Player of the Year, surpassing Tiger Woods’ long-standing record. He joined 2009 AJGA Player of the Year Jordan Spieth and 2013 AJGA Player of the Year Scottie Scheffler in finishing top 25 in their TOUR-sanctioned debut; Spieth finished T16 at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in 2010, while Scheffler finished T22 at the same event in 2014.

This year’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship, part of the FedExCup Fall, is slated for Nov. 14-17 at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda.

“I am honored to be receiving an exemption into the 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship,” Russell said in the AJGA release. “I have dreamt of playing on the PGA TOUR my entire life and to have that dream coming to fruition later this year is a feeling that I cannot describe. I am grateful to the tournament and the AJGA for their partnership that is allowing me this incredible opportunity.”

Russell’s 2023 season included back-to-back victories at TaylorMade TP5 Junior All-Star and Moon Golf Junior All-Star, in addition to a seven-shot win at the Junior PGA Championship and a three-shot win at the Junior PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass. The native of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, is currently a high school freshman, attending online school.

He'll make his second Korn Ferry Tour start this week in Texas, knowing he’ll have a PGA TOUR start later this year as well.

“The AJGA is excited to offer a PGA TOUR exemption to our Rolex Player of the Year,” said Patrick Cansfield, AJGA director, Development, in the release. “We are proud to partner with the PGA TOUR and Butterfield Bermuda Championship to help our juniors grow on and off the golf course.”

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
