Check out these 8 outstanding modified Tata Safari SUVs
First launched in 1998, the Tata Safari can be heralded as the first-ever Indian SUV. In spite of a pretty lacklustre sales performance (average monthly sale between July-December 2018 - 521 units), the 7-seat SUV enjoys a dedicated set of followers across the country, and even in some international markets where it is sold. Over the years, Safari has seen various upgrades and presently comes across as a well-sorted option for those looking for an affordable but sufficiently rugged SUV. Here is a look at some stunning examples of the Tata Safari. While some of these feature aftermarket upgrades, others have been customised in-house by Tata Motors - 8 outstanding modified Tata Safari SUVs.
Tata Safari 'Moon Rover' by Big Daddy Customs
This modified Tata Safari has been in the limelight for its Range Rover Evoque-like looks. Done up by Big Daddy Customs with the Moon Rover concept , the customised SUV features several updates that give it a profoundly different visual identity. In fact, the custom job has been executed so well that it takes more than a glance to establish the true identity of this SUV. Up front, it features a chunky new bumper that carries a faux skid plate and LED DRLs. The front-end features a sleek pair of headlamps and a new grille, both of which help this Safari mimic an Evoque. The front and rear fenders, and the hood have been suitably altered to obtain a bold look that is similar to that of the pricier SUV.
Modified Tata Safari Tuff Concept
Displayed at the Auto Expo 2016, the Tata Safari Tuff concept was done up by the company's Personalization Studio. It is based on the Safari Storme and gets many add-ons that make it more rugged. Up front, it gets a metal bumper with a huge bull bar that carries a set of auxiliary lamps. Furthermore, the custom model gets a tow hook, a revised grille, and bespoke trim on the headlights. In the side profile, you'll be quick to notice the black-painted alloy wheels shod with off-road-spec tires, new footrests, and 'Mountain' graphics in the lower portions of the doors. The ORVMs have been painted black to achieve a bolder look, while the roof carries a luggage carrier and a LED light bar.
On the inside, this Tata Safari features a 2-DIN touchscreen infotainment unit, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), GPS-guided navigation, water-resistant seat covers, rubber mats, car care kit, and an air freshener. The list of optional features includes a reverse parking camera, tire repair kit, and a refrigerator.

Highlights of the side profile include off-road-spec tires that are covered with snow chains to help the SUV find traction on the snow-covered terrain. The concept even gets roof-mounted fog lamps and a luggage box. Another talking point of this SUV is the red-white chequered paint scheme.
Tata Safari Storme with Body Kit from MotorMind
Here is a sporty looking Tata Safari Storme that has been done up by Motormind Automotive, a Bangalore-based car mod shop. The updated SUV carries a custom body kit that makes it look sportier than the original version. At the front-end, it features a new bumper with a gaping air dam and thin LED strips. The stock grille has made way for a custom unit with a 'MotorMind' insignia’s placed near the left headlight. Moreover, this Safari gets hood ornamentation and roof-mounted hazard lights. Other updates include bolder wheel arches and new alloy wheels that have been shod with wider tires.
Tata Safari DICOR by KitUp! Automotive
Coimbatore-based KitUp! Automotive is renowned for offering body kits that can easily jazz up the aesthetics of any Indian vehicle. Even the Safari DICOR seen above features an updated styling package that is courtesy of several various updates it carries. At the front-end, the SUV gets a revised bumper that has a cleaner look than its stock counterpart and boasts a wire-mesh grille for the lower air dam. Even the original grille has made way for a mesh unit, while the hood has been updated with a faux air vent. The SUV rides on aftermarket alloy wheels. It even gets blacked-out pillars and black window tints.

The front-end of the custom Safari features an updated fascia, which, as per the manufacturer, takes inspiration from the stealth fighter jets. The revised facade carries a huge bumper, LED fixtures that replace the headlamps, and a new front grille. Highlights of the side profile include flared wheel arches and new alloy wheels that are shod with low profile tires. The roof rails carry a searchlight each, while the rear end gets a new bumper and bespoke trim for the taillights. Modified 2021 Tata Safari Looks Badass Wearing 20-Inch Aftermarket Rims
Check out this customised new-generation Tata Safari, which wears a set of pretty-looking, aftermarket 20-inch alloy wheels
Last month, Tata Motors launched the 2021 Safari in India. The new Safari, regular readers might be aware, is based on the Tata Harrier, with the two SUVs sharing the same platform, powertrain options, and a lot of design elements as well. Even though it arrived in the Indian market just a little while ago, modified examples of the new-gen Safari have already started popping up online!
Here, we have a 2021 Tata Safari which features a simple modification – a set of 20-inch RPM alloy wheels. The mod job was performed by Velocity Tyres , an auto shop based in Ludhiana, Punjab. The wheels feature a 12-spoke design and are shod with Sonar tyres. The new rims fill the wheel arches nicely, adding muscle to the styling of the SUV.
While larger wheels look cool, they usually downgrade the ride quality of a vehicle. However, the suspension of the new Safari is quite supple, which should keep the overall ride quality smooth and comfy. Also, larger wheels with lower-profile tyres reduce the off-road capabilities as well, but the front-wheel-drive 2021 Safari is best kept to the streets so that probably won’t be a problem!
The 2021 Tata Safari is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, inline-4 diesel engine, which generates 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This is the same FCA-sourced powerplant that also does duty on the Harrier. There are two transmission options available here – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The new-gen Safari offers a lot of premium features, like an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity), a semi-digital instrument cluster (with 7-inch multi-colour MID), power-adjustable front seats, electronic parking brake, terrain response modes (normal, rough, and wet), corner stability control, disc brakes on all wheels, up to six airbags, a panoramic sunroof, iRA connected car tech, etc.
The price of the 2021 Tata Safari starts at Rs. 14.69 lakh, and goes all the way up to Rs. 21.45 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). In the Indian market, its closest competitors include the MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500.

2021 Tata Safari Looks Uber Cool With Massive Aftermarket Rims
Tata Motors recently launched the new-gen Safari in the Indian market. In its segment, it rivals the likes of MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500. 2021 Tata Safari Goes Off-road Only to Scrape its Belly – VIDEO
The regular model of the SUV gets smart-looking 18-inch alloy units. The Tata Safari you see here features massive 20-inch mags. The mod job has been done by Velocity Tyres, which is situated in Ludhiana, Punjab. This Tata Safari gets multi-spoke two-tone rims, which looks quite sporty and have enhanced the overall stance of the SUV. The silver and black colour of these alloy wheels is gelling up well with the white paint scheme of the SUV. The overall price of this modification is not known, but one can directly contact the customizer for more information. Talking about the new-gen Tata Safari, it derives power from a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel mill, which is capable of shredding out power and torque outputs of 168 Bhp and 350 Nm, respectively. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Punjabi Celeb Parmish Verma Gets All-new Tata Safari
The new SUV is based on the company’s OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) platform, which also underpins the Tata Harrier. This modular platform is compatible with distinctive body types, an electric power plant and an AWD system. Nevertheless, Tata Motors does not have any all-wheel-drive system for a monocoque chassis-based SUV like the all-new Tata Safari. For now, the new Tata Safari is being offered only with a front-wheel-drive system. The SUV might get a 4X4 trim at a later stage but there's no concrete info on this yet. The last 4X4 SUV offered by the automaker was Hexa, which was a body-on-frame SUV. In fact, even the Safari Storme had a 4x4 system. The new-gen Tata Safari is retailed at a starting price of Rs 14.69 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).

Tata Motors reacts to Safari SUV fire incident. Here's what it found
- Video of a parked Tata Safari SUV up in flames in a garage in Ludhiana, Punjab, went viral on social media recently. Tata Motors has revealed the reason why the SUV caught fire.
Tata Motors has revealed its investigation report on the Safari SUV that caught fire in Punjab's Ludhiana recently. The SUV can be seen up in flames in a video that went viral on social media. The video shows that the engine bay and the front section of the Safari SUV engulfed in fire as people around try to douse it. With no aftermarket alterations done to the SUV, questions were raised how the parked SUV could have possibly caught fire. The report by Tata Motors explains why it is important to also check the surroundings of a vehicle when parking.
The incident took place in Ludhiana last week. They gray Safari SUV was partially damaged in the fire at a parking lot of a housing society. The owner of the SUV, while raising the issue, said, “I was owning this Tata Safari top end variant, all through serviced and maintained by Authorised Tata dealer only, caught fire while it was parked." He also said that the SUV did not have any aftermarket modification, which is one of the biggest reasons for such fire.

Tata Motors conducted an inquiry into the incident and pointed out that there was no issue with the SUV, quelling any rumours about the safety of Safari. The carmaker pointed out unsafe parking conditions to be the cause of fire. Tata Motors issued a statement that read, “As per the concluded investigation, the presence of accumulated dry leaves and paper cups on the underbody engine guard near the hot silencer assembly have been identified as the cause of the incident. The team is in touch with the customer to provide the best possible solution."
The incident shows why parking a vehicle safely is important to avoid such accidents. In India, where car and two-wheeler owners are often forced to park in the open under the sun, avoiding heating and other such scenarios become a difficult ask. However, keeping flammable objects around the car or two-wheeler is avoidable to keep vehicles safe.

The Safari is currently available with only diesel engine options. However, Tata Motors is expected to offer petrol engines too in the upcoming facelift version. The current 2.0-litre diesel engine under the hood, sourced from Fiat, comes mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The engine is capable of churning out 168 bhp of maximum power at 3,750 rpm and a peak torque output of 350 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm.

Tata Motors comments on the Punjab Safari SUV fire incident, clarifying the actual events.
After an extensive investigation, Tata Motors has issued an official response regarding the recent fire incident in a parked Safari SUV in Ludhiana, Punjab. Although the Safari appeared to be parked in a secure area within a housing society, investigation revealed a significant factor in the incident. It was determined that an accumulation of dry leaves and paper cups in the engine guard came into contact with the SUV's hot silencer assembly, resulting in the accumulated waste material igniting. This incident underlines the importance of maintaining cleanliness around vehicles and parking them in a safe environment.
The incident came to light suddenly, involving a high-end variant of Tata Motors Safari which was diligently serviced at an authorized Tata dealership. Despite contacting Tata's engineering team, the vehicle owner did not receive any satisfactory explanation or support.
Videos of a Tata Safari SUV parked in a housing society catching fire are being circulated on various social media platforms. The front portion of the vehicle had caught fire and housing society members were seen trying to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher. At the time, the vehicle owner posted the video saying, I have this Tata Safari top-end variant, which is always serviced and maintained by an authorized Tata dealer, and it caught fire while parked. He also stressed that there have been no aftermarket accessories or modifications to the SUV to rule out the commonly cited reasons.
Tata Motors responded immediately to customer concerns and launched an investigation into the fire incident. After a thorough investigation, the automaker shared a statement with TOI Auto explaining the root cause. According to their findings, the presence of dry leaves and paper cups deposited on the underbody engine guard near the hot silencer assembly was identified as the cause of the incident. The automaker is actively working with the customer to provide the best possible solution.
While Tata Motors has effectively addressed any safety-related queries regarding the Safari, this incident is a reminder of the importance of maintenance and care of our vehicles to prevent such incidents.

Calculating the on-road price of a car in India involves adding various costs and taxes to the base price of the vehicle. On-road price is the total cost you have to spend to drive the car legally on Indian roads. Here are the steps to calculate the on-road price of a car in India:
Base Price : Start with the base price of the car. This is the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) or ex-showroom price. You can find it on the manufacturer's website, at the dealership, or in advertisements.
Road Toll : Road tax varies from state to state in India. You can find the road tax rate of your state on the website of the transport department of the respective state. Calculate road tax as a percentage of the showroom price of the car. The formula is:
Road Tax = (Percentage of Road Tax / 100) * Ex-Showroom Price
Registration Fee : To register a car at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), a registration fee has to be paid. Rates vary depending on vehicle cost, location, and other factors. You can usually find details of registration fees on the RTO website or by visiting the RTO office.
Insurance : Car insurance is mandatory in India. The cost of insurance depends on factors such as the model of the car, its age, its location, and the type of insurance (comprehensive or third-party). Contact insurance providers or use online tools to get insurance quotes.
Management and Logistics Fees : Dealers may charge handling and logistics charges for delivering the car to you. These rates may vary from dealer to dealer, so check with the specific dealer.
Additional Accessories : If you plan to add optional accessories or features to your car, such as alloy wheels, an audio system, or custom upholstery, include the cost of these in your calculations.
GST (Goods and Services Tax) : GST is applicable on the ex-showroom price of the car and the rate depends on the type and size of the vehicle. Check the GST rate on the official GST portal.
Fastag and Other Charges : Please note the charges like Fastag fee, handling fee, and any other applicable charges.
Optional Extended Warranty : If you choose to purchase an extended warranty for your car, include this cost in your calculations.
Total On-Road Price : Add all the above components to get the total on-road price:
On Road Price = Base Price + Road Tax + Registration Fees + Insurance + Handling & Logistics Charges + Additional Accessories + GST + FASTag + Other Charges + Optional Extended Warranty
Please remember that on-road prices may also include other local taxes or levies, which may vary by location and may change over time. When calculating the on-road price of a car in India it is essential to verify all these costs with the car dealer and consult the concerned state transport department for the most accurate and latest information.
The main difference between the showroom price and the on-road price of a vehicle lies in the components included in the price and the taxes and charges associated with purchasing the vehicle. Here are details of each:
Ex-showroom Price : Ex-showroom price is the base price of the vehicle set by the manufacturer or dealer. This covers the cost of the vehicle itself, including manufacturing costs, the dealer's profit margin, and any accessories or extra features that come with the vehicle.
This price does not include taxes, registration fees, insurance, or other additional costs associated with owning and running the vehicle.
On-Road Price : On-road price is the total cost you will have to spend to purchase the vehicle and drive it legally on the road. This ex-showroom price includes other miscellaneous charges and taxes:
- Registration Fee : The cost of registering the vehicle at the local Regional Transport Office (RTO).
- Circulation Tax : A tax charged by the state government for the use of a vehicle on public roads.
- Insurance : Cost of vehicle insurance, which includes mandatory third-party insurance and optional comprehensive insurance.
- Handling Charges : Dealers may add handling or logistics charges for delivery of the vehicle.
- Additional Accessories : If you choose to add additional features or accessories to the vehicle, these are included in the price of the trip.
- State-specific Taxes : Some states or regions of a country may impose additional taxes or levies. Any other local or state-specific fees.
On-road price is the final amount you need to pay to purchase the vehicle and get it legally on the road. It is important to consider on-road price when budgeting for a new vehicle, as it can significantly impact the overall cost of ownership. Additionally, on-road prices may vary from location to location due to differences in taxes and duties imposed by different states or territories.
When purchasing a vehicle it is a good practice to consult the dealership or check the manufacturer's official website or your local RTO to understand the specific factors that make up the on-road price in your area. This will help you plan your budget more accurately and avoid surprises when shopping.

First Tata Safari in Punjab delivered to the ‘Taur naal shada’ Parmish Verma
Tata Safari made a great comeback in the Punjab market with acclaimed actor, singer and director Parmish Verma buying himself the first new Safari in Punjab. The ‘Rocky Mental’ and ‘Dil Diyan Gallan’ fame actor took the delivery of the iconic brand at RSA Motors, a Tata Motors authorized dealership in Chandigarh. The keys were handed over to Parmish Verma in the presence of Himanshu Bassi, Regional Manager, North, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, at Tata Motors.
Elated on receiving the 1 st Safari , Parmish Verma, said, “I wanted to own the all-new Tata Safari since its launch announcement. I have been a fan of the Tata Safari since my childhood and was fortunate enough to own the earlier generation Safari too. I am delighted that Tata Motors has brought back the Safari in such a modern avatar & also thankful to Tata Motors for not just quickly delivering the iconic SUV to me but also making me the 1 st customer in all of Punjab. The new Safari is modern, stylish and I cannot wait to flaunt my new drive as I take it out to conquer the roads with my family and friends.”
Commenting on the delivery, Himanshu Bassi, Regional Manager, North, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, We are excited to deliver Punjab’s first Safari to Mr. Parmish Verma soon after its commercial launch. Mr. Verma is known for his contemporary singing and style; and what better than the all-new Safari which in its new avatar offers the best in segment design and driving dynamics to its customers; making it the perfect companion for those who live by their own rules. With its plush interiors, state-of-the-art connectivity and premium features, the Safari not just blends in but ups the lifestyle quotient several notches higher. We are delighted by the customer response across the country and are thrilled by the love our new product is receiving. We are positive that the Safari will carry forward the legacy set by its predecessor as it continues to attract the modern-day customer.”
Verma bought himself the top-end XZA+ automatic variant with the majestic panoramic sunroof and captain seats. Launched recently on 22 nd February, the all-new Tata Safari is powered by the 2.0 litre turbocharged Kyrotech engine. With its 2741 mm wheelbase, the Safari will come with signature Oyster White Interiors paired with the Ashwood finish dashboard along with 6 and 7-seater options, which will come with an 8.8-inch floating island infotainment system.
In its new avatar, the Safari takes forward the brand’s rich legacy by combining Tata Motors’ Impact 2.0 design language with the proven capability of OMEGARC, the architecture derived from the renowned D8 platform from Land Rover – the gold standard of SUVs worldwide. The OMEGARC, architecture has already proven its mettle with the success of the Harrier.
While the overall auto industry de-grew in Punjab, Tata Motors in Punjab registered a 40% growth YTD FY21 in overall PVs and a 16% growth in the SUV segment alone.
In a challenging year, Tata Motors has exhibited a stellar performance in the passenger vehicles market last year, by clocking in over 23,000 unit sales every month successively from October 2020. Furthermore, in Q3FY21, the Tata Motors PV business posted its highest sales in the last 33 quarters. The rising demand can be attributed to the BS6 range, which was launched last year, under the New Forever philosophy of the company.
Demand was visible across all products of the New Forever range, including the premium hatchback Tata Altroz and the BS6 Harrier, which stole the show.
