Ed Sheeran at Singapore National Stadium and Capitol Theatre: Everything you need to know
We’ve done all the research for you. All you gotta do now is just show up!
Just last week, we bid Coldplay farewell after their epic six-night-long tour in Singapore. However, that doesn’t mean it’s time to rest just yet because another highly-anticipated show is coming right up – Ed Sheeran is about to take the stage at the National Stadium next Friday!
The British singer-songwriter will be performing not just one, but two shows in Singapore at different venues. For the Sheerios (apparently what Ed Sheeran’s fans are called) that managed to secure tickets to his + - = ÷ x Tour in Singapore, we’ve gone ahead to make your life easier by gathering all the necessary information you would need to know before the show. All that’s left on your part is deciding your outfit, and perhaps to practise singing along to Ed’s predicted setlist.

What time will the doors open?
Doors will open at 4.30pm at the National Stadium. As for the show held at the Capitol Theatre, it is said that doors will open one hour before the show that will start at 8pm. However, we highly recommend arriving slightly earlier.
How long will the show last?
The show on February 16 will start at 6.30pm and will last around two hours, while the show on February 17 will commence at 8pm and will last around two hours as well.
What is the setlist for Ed Sheeran’s + - = ÷ x Tour in Singapore?
The exact setlist still remains a mystery. However, taking reference from Ed Sheeran’s recent performance in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on February 3, here is the supposed setlist for the February 16 show:

- River / Peru / Beautiful People / South of the Border / I Don't Care
- Overpass Graffiti
- Galway Girl
- Thinking Out Loud
- Love Yourself (Justin Bieber cover)

What items cannot be brought into the venue?
For both venues, be prepared for bag checks and pat downs. Outside food and beverages, including alcohol and bottled water, are not allowed. Bags of dimensions larger than 35cm by 20cm by 30cm, non-collapsible umbrellas, noise makers, chairs, stools, flowers, gifts, hand sanitisers exceeding 60ml, perfume in glass bottles (excluding travel-size perfume atomisers) and fan boards bigger than A3 will also not be allowed in the venues. Ed Sheeran, more confident than ever in a sold-out Singapore Indoor Stadium — gig report
"It's gonna be a good show," a supremely relaxed Ed Sheeran tells us in a brief interview just before a show at Singapore Indoor Stadium .
His first Asian date this year, after a bout of show cancellations following a widely-covered injury sustained back home in the UK, marks an Ed Sheeran at the height of his powers — selling out the storied venue for two nights in Singapore, a country that has since seen major pop music players like Coldplay and Bruno Mars sell out tickets in the span of minutes.
The big difference that separates them and Sheeran is that, unlike Coldplay's arena stunts and Bruno's big-band production values, Sheeran remains an unaccompanied performer onstage — one man, singing to tens of thousands of fans on a daily basis.
The world's eyes were on Ed Sheeran tonight as he continued his world tour, kickstarting the Asian leg with two sold-out shows in Singapore — the first of which took place on November 11th at the Singapore Indoor Stadium , with an approximately 10,000-strong audience. Sheeran's tour was put on hold following his cycling accident , with some dates cancelled or postponed .
BANDWAGON TV
On the injury, he states bluntly, "It still aches, but I'm able to play shows now, so I'm happy about that." The singer-songwriter certainly proved his point, delivering solid performances of songs off his latest album ÷ , as well as older fan favourites such as ' Photograph' and ' Thinking Out Loud' for approximately 1.5 hours.
"Good, yeah, feels like it's going well here," he says of his Singapore fanbase. "Every time I come back to different countries, it just seems to be growing and growing and growing. I'm really happy that now in Singapore we're playing to such big crowds." His last show in Singapore, as part of the x tour in 2015, saw a 5,000-strong audience, now merely a quarter of his 2017 turnout.
Sheeran was, evidently, in a good mood, as he mentioned how happy he was to be back on tour, disliking having to shows, even performing his own rendition of Michael Bublé's ' Feeling Good' , remixed with his own ' I See Fire' . What really kept fans engaged was his impeccably-arranged setlist — allowing deeper cuts to breathe alongside his biggest hits.
All it really takes Sheeran is his rustic guitar and a commanding voice, and Singaporean audiences joined in at every opportunity. Even if monolithic LCD screens strip away the show of its intimacy, Sheeran knows how to play up a crowd, and at this point in his career, he's a consummate professional.
Sheeran wasn't the only happy performer tonight. Lauv , the opening act for Sheeran's Asian leg of the tour, commented on how it was his first time playing in an arena. Handpicked by Sheeran himself — "He's managed by a very close friend of mine and I really liked his music, so I just got in touch and asked, "Can you come on tour?"" — Lauv proved to be a worthy opener as he played crowd-friendly singles like 'I Like Me Better' and 'Easy Love'.
On Lauv's opening slow, Sheeran lamented, "He's had a bit of hard luck though, obviously the shows got cancelled so he didn't get to do half the tour, which is a shame. But we'll make up for it." As a watershed 2017 reaches its end for Sheeran, 2018 is set to look even brighter, and his rescheduled shows will likely generate more hype than ever to see the Briton. Judging by his first stadium show in Singapore, the rest of Asia is set for a real treat.

Ed Sheeran concert in Singapore: A birthday bash with surprise guest JJ Lin
Advertisement.
Ed Sheeran said Singapore's show for The +-=÷× Tour, otherwise known as The Mathematics Tour, was the loudest one in Asia.

Ed Sheeran celebrated his 33rd birthday a day ahead with over 60,000 people at the Singapore National Stadium on Friday (Feb 16).
The party, which was the British singer’s sold-out concert , was part of The +-=÷× (Mathematics) Tour’s Asian leg. From flashy pyrotechnics to an unexpected guest star, it seems as though Sheeran threw a near perfect one.
Kicking off the concert was opening act Calum Scott. The English singer-songwriter was greeted with a chorus of cheers as he filled the stadium with his single Lighthouse.
With his infectious energy and captivating voice, he continued to charm the audience with a series of songs including You Are The Reason and his rendition of Dancing On My Own. He even wished the audience “gong xi fa cai” and yelled “huat ah”, eliciting applause and laughter from the crowd.
At 7.40 pm, the stadium lights dimmed, and a five-minute countdown took over the iconic circular video screen. As it reached the final 10 seconds, the audience began chanting the numbers, creating a vibe almost akin to a New Year's Eve countdown.
On cue, the stage lit up as Sheeran took the spotlight, playing the opening riffs of Tides.
In true Ed Sheeran fashion, he took centre stage alone, with nothing but a guitar and loop station.
For those who may be unfamiliar, a loop station is a device that records and instantly plays back musical performances in real-time – a device that Sheeran has been using in his performances since he was 14.
After his electrifying performance of Blow and I'm A Mess, he shared: “Everything you hear tonight is completely live, there is no backing track whatsoever.
"It’s all made live on the spot, controlled by my feet. Once it is deleted, it will not be the same tomorrow.”
And as if he didn’t seem talented enough, he demonstrated how the loop station worked before seamlessly transitioning into his next song Shivers.
Throughout the concert, Sheeran commanded the stage as he performed songs like Castle On The Hill, Don’t and Lego House. He started singalongs, encouraged the audience to get up from their seats and dance, and barely stopped moving around the stage.
Of course, his efforts didn’t go to waste. Speaking to CNA Lifestyle, Ryan Lin, who attended with his university friends, said he thought the concert was amazing.
“Ed didn’t even need a band with him. He was just a one-man show and didn’t even take a long break, which is insane,” shared the 22-year-old.
While it is true that Sheeran can perform on his own, the singer mentioned that some songs are better when done with a group. For the tracks under his collaboration albums, he invited his band on stage to perform songs and mashups, including Beautiful People and Peru.
The best parts of the show, however, came in the second half of the concert. Sheeran surprised fans with Happier – a song that wasn’t originally part of the setlist.
Before singing, he shared that he hadn’t played or even heard Happier in five years but relearned it after someone told him it was a popular song in Singapore.
But the highlight of the show was when he welcomed his special guest, Singaporean singer-songwriter JJ Lin to the stage. Fans erupted into cheers as the pair sang a rendition of JJ Lin’s Twilight – a Chinese song.
Lin later posted a snippet of the performance on Instagram. "Not just Mathematics, it was MAGICAL!!!," he wrote.

Sheeran also took to Instagram, sharing some behind-the-scenes footage of the collaboration. In his caption, he wrote: “10 mins before I went on JJ said he would sit and teach me some of the Mandarin and it was so fun to do live.
"My first time speaking and singing in Mandarin and deffo not the last."

Speaking to CNA Lifestyle, many said the unexpected duo shocked them, and that they were impressed by the accuracy of Sheeran’s pronunciation.
One fan, Junwei, 22, said: “I could really see the amount of effort he put into his show, (from how) he memorised the Chinese lyrics and sang it for us,” adding that it was “definitely” the highlight of the night.
As the concert drew to a close, Sheeran, who performed for over two hours, revealed that he plans to spend his birthday eating local food and enjoying the city. And as fans know, he will also be basking in the afterglow with an intimate performance at Singapore’s Capitol Theatre on Feb 17 .

A survival guide to Ed Sheeran’s Singapore National Stadium and Capitol Theatre 2024 concerts

Sheeran has also revealed that he only learnt the Mandarin lyrics to Lin's 'Twilight' 15 minutes before walking onstage
This past weekend (February 16), Ed Sheeran performed at the Singapore National Stadium on the eve of his birthday, but treated fans in the arena to a surprise performance with mandopop icon JJ Lin .

During his sold-out set – the highest-selling show in the venue’s history with over 60,000 tickets sold, per concert promoter AEG Presents – Sheeran brought out special guest JJ Lin to raucous applause. Sheeran played guitar as Lin launched into his hit song ‘Twilight’, sung in Mandarin.
However, fans got the surprise of a lifetime when Sheeran took to the mic during the song’s chorus to sing in Mandarin. Watch footage of the performance below.

Towards the end of the song, JJ Lin began singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Ed Sheeran. “ Happy birthday to you, Ed Sheeran / Singapore loves you ,” Lin sang as Sheeran laughed in surprise.
Ed Sheeran took to Instagram after the show to post a video of JJ Lin and himself running over the lyrics to the song 15 minutes before Sheeran started the show. Sheeran wrote: “I had the honour of having the amazing @jjlin on stage last night in Singapore.”

He continued: “Me and the band had learnt one of his biggest hits, ‘Twilight’, for the show, but because it was entirely in Mandarin, I felt like I didn’t want to mess it up, or be disrespectful by getting it wrong so the original plan was for us to play and JJ to sing.”
“10 mins before I went on JJ said he would sit and teach me some of the Mandarin and it was so fun to do live. My first time speaking and singing in Mandarin and deffo not the last. Thanks for all the love Singapore, honestly my fav show of the year so far, and thanks JJ, you rock x,” Sheeran concluded.
Following the Singapore show, Ed Sheeran is set to take his ‘+ – = ÷ x’ tour to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on February 24, followed by Jakarta, Indonesia on March 2, Manila, Philippines on March 9 and Mumbai, India on March 16.

The singer-songwriter was announced as the winner of the Emmy in the Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics category, thanks to the track he wrote for the TV show Ted Lasso .
“We won an Emmy last night,” Sheeran wrote, addressing the victory on social media. “I was not expecting to win at all, it was a real real surprise waking up to the news, I wish I had been there but I’m just about to kick off the Asia tour so had to be elsewhere sadly.”

Ed Sheeran wears strap from S’pore brand Delugs for his ‘priceless’ Patek Philippe watch
SINGAPORE – British singing star Ed Sheeran, known for his love of watches, received new straps while he was in Singapore, thanks to home-grown watch strap brand Delugs.
The 33-year-old paired his luxury Patek Philippe timepiece with a navy blue Delugs strap while performing his second show in Singapore at the Capitol Theatre on Feb 17. He played at the National Stadium on Feb 16 to a record crowd of over 60,000.
Delugs co-founders Kenneth Kuan, 30, and Chia Pei Qi, 29, handed Sheeran the straps backstage before his two sold-out performances.
Sheeran also made a video posted on Delugs’ Instagram page in which he described the straps as great and fantastic, and said he loves them.

Formed in 2018, Delugs specialises in luxury watch straps and accessories, and has a global customer base.
Married couple Kuan and Chia knew that Sheeran is an avid watch collector from seeing videos of his interviews. When they found out in October 2023 that he was coming to Singapore to perform as part of his +-=÷x Tour, they came up with a “crazy idea” to give him some Delugs straps.
They had no idea how to set up a meeting with the star, so they did not think much of the plan until two weeks before he was due to play his first show here. The pair, who are fans of Sheeran’s music, did not get tickets to his concerts, but a number of their staff did.
Ms Chia says that with the deadline looming, they knew they had to take a shot. “Ken and I always have big dreams and crazy ideas. We knew that if we didn’t try, and (Sheeran) came and went, we would regret it.”
The company prepared what they thought would be a perfect gift for Sheeran – a case with his +-=÷x Tour logo hand-painted on it. Inside was a curated set of rubber straps, which they knew the singer liked to wear while performing, for his various watch brands and models.
Sheeran has said that he prefers rubber straps because they are comfortable to wear, even when he travels to places with humid weather. According to Mr Kuan, the value of the gift was about $1,500.
On Feb 7, the company made a video posted on TikTok and Instagram, calling on their followers, customers and the global watch community to help them get Sheeran to pick up the gift from their showroom in Ubi.
The crowdsourcing strategy worked. The video eventually reached Sheeran’s United States-based watch dealer, who connected the pop artiste’s team with Delugs.
It was only on the morning of the Feb 16 concert that they heard from Sheeran’s team again, with details on the meeting with the singer backstage at the National Stadium.
According to the couple, this was part of a meet-and-greet with others, and their time with Sheeran lasted only about a minute. Still, they managed to chat with him, pass him the case and a note with details of the straps in it, and take a photo together, which they uploaded on Instagram.
Before they met Sheeran, the couple chatted with members of the singer’s crew, who are also watch collectors. Mr Kuan decided to gift them with straps too, and met them at their hotel the following morning.

Says Mr Kuan: “When they found out that it was very simple to install our straps, that they did not need any special tools, they got very excited.” They ended up chatting about watches for about an hour.
Soon after they parted, Sheeran’s crew contacted Mr Kuan again, asking if he was free that night to help Sheeran install a Delugs strap on his watch.
At 7.30pm, Mr Kuan and Ms Chia found themselves backstage again, this time at the Capitol Theatre. The day also happened to be Sheeran’s birthday, and they could see that a party had just taken place.
Says Mr Kuan: “He approached me and said, ‘Ken, I really love what you’re doing, I saw our guys with your straps.’”
This time, the meeting lasted five minutes, and Sheeran showed keen interest in Delugs’ brand story and details of the straps they gifted him the day before. Mr Kuan then helped him to install the strap on the watch he wore for the Capitol Theatre gig.
That Patek Philippe 5230G World Time timepiece, Mr Kuan says, is “priceless” because the Swiss brand made a special version for Sheeran. It has unique details like the name of his home town, Framlingham, among the time zones that can be read on the watch.
In an episode of video series Talking Watches by US-based watch website Hodinkee, which was hosted by American singer and fellow watch enthusiast John Mayer, Sheeran described it as “the coolest watch I own”.
Meeting Sheeran twice and seeing him wear the Delugs strap felt like a dream for husband and wife. Says Ms Chia: “The whole experience was fascinating.”
