I use this every time I go to London

This app is invaluable! I travel alone & am American , even tho this summer will be my 4th UK trip I am not comfortable going around London without a map ! . My first trip( 2016 ) it took me about 30 min every am & night to plan my journey etc ! I still got lost and my phone battery would die from constant use. This app allows you to find the tube line you need and w a spare battery you should be fine alone! I’m 60 and stay in Victoria area ( my fav) buy need no help now largely bc of this great app!

When an app feels this good

As a tourist in London finding this app was amazing, but it goes beyond usability and into art. This app is such a great example of thoughtful and precise design. I’ve kept it on my phone after leaving London just to continue to fiddle around with it and continue to discover additional layers of loveliness.

Best App Ever

Can’t imagine being in London without this app. Super easy. Super intuitive. Super accurate. Makes getting anywhere in London a breeze. Couple this with a daily transit pass for maximum value.

DLR Passengers to see quicker, easier and more frequent journeys as services are boosted across the network

DLR Passengers to see quicker, easier and more frequent journeys as services are boosted across the network: TfL Image - DLR

  • More frequent services and reduced waiting times across the entire DLR network including the morning and evening peak
  • Increased services when customers need them most
  • Reduced waiting times for all services and less crowding at platforms
  • Better connections with Elizabeth line services for easier interchange

Further DLR timetable changes will be introduced from Monday 15 May, enabling customers to benefit from quicker, easier and more comfortable journeys across the DLR network. These improvements build on the timetable changes that were made in September last year designed to help people access housing, employment and leisure opportunities more easily across the Docklands and east London.

Since the opening of the Elizabeth line last May, and with people travelling to the office and leisure activities more frequently, the way customers use the DLR has changed. These new timetables will help ensure there are more trains available where people need them.

The new timetable will mean more frequent services on all routes, especially at peak times, helping to reduce waiting times as well as providing better connections with the Elizabeth line at Canary Wharf, Custom House and Stratford. Peak services will run half an hour longer on all routes in both the morning and evening peaks with customers benefiting from more frequent services and reduced waiting during these times. The Elizabeth line will also have a new timetable introduced in May, which will increase peak time services for customers and reduce journey times.

In response to growing customer demand, additional services are being introduced such as direct Stratford to Lewisham trains during the evening peak for the first time. Evening frequencies between Canning Town and Beckton will also be doubled, with Stratford to Canary Wharf services doubled on Saturday nights.

The main changes include:

  • Peak service levels will run half an hour longer on all routes in both morning and evening peaks . This means customers on all routes will benefit from more frequent services and reduced waiting times during peak times. The morning peak service will end at 10:00 instead of 09:30, and the evening peak service will end at 19:30 instead of 19:00.
  • Direct Stratford-Lewisham services during the evening peak will be introduced for the first time . Customers will benefit from the extension of every other Stratford to Canary Wharf service to/from Lewisham during the evening peak, cutting waiting times for customers between Canary Wharf and Lewisham. This means a service every two to four minutes between Canary Wharf and Lewisham instead of every four minutes, and direct services between Stratford and Lewisham (without changing trains at Canary Wharf) every eight minutes.
  • Frequencies between Canning Town and Beckton on Monday to Saturday evenings will be doubled. In September, a shuttle service between Canning Town and Beckton (in addition to the existing Tower Gateway to Beckton services) was introduced, which doubled the frequency during the peaks and daytime off peak. With the new timetable, these services will continue into the evening until 23:30 on weekdays (instead of 19:30) and 22:00 on Saturdays (instead of 19:30). This means during these times trains will run every five minutes rather than every 10 minutes between Canning Town and Beckton, halving waiting times for customers (including those interchanging to/from the Elizabeth line at Custom House). There is no change to service levels on Sundays.
  • Frequencies doubled between Stratford and Canary Wharf on Saturday evenings. Customers using stations between Stratford and Canary Wharf on Saturday evenings will wait substantially less time for a train, with trains every five minutes (rather than 10) until 22:00 rather than until 19:30.

Seb Dance, Deputy Mayor for Transport said: “After some incredibly challenging years, ridership on the Tube and DLR is beginning to return to pre-pandemic levels, And I am pleased that changes coming in to the DLR timetable in May will mean people travelling around east London will now benefit from additional services and quicker, easier, more frequent journeys.

“With the entire DLR fleet also being updated over the coming years, this is just one of the ways the Mayor and TfL are continuing to improve London’s world-class public transport network, which is key for to building a better, more efficient London for everyone.”

Tom Page, TfL’s General Manager for the DLR, said: “It’s an exciting time for DLR as we continue to see strong ridership and have now begun testing of the new trains that will transform journeys for millions of customers every year. This latest timetable change builds on last September’s changes to help ensure we have capacity where it’s needed the most. These changes will deliver an improvement for customers with quicker, easier and more comfortable journeys.”

This is the next step in a programme of enhancements for the DLR. New modern, walk-through, air-conditioned DLR trains are currently being tested on the network and are due to enter service from 2024. These will provide further significant improvements to waiting times, crowding and customer experience as they allow   longer and more frequent trains to operate, as well as supporting housing growth and economic redevelopment across the Docklands and east London.

Full details of the timetable changes can be found at tfl.gov.uk/modes/dlr/improving-the-dlr . Customers can also plan journeys using the new timetables using the TfL Go app or TfL Journey Planner.

Notes to editors

  • All routes will see some form of frequency increase with no reductions in service at any time. These changes, alongside Elizabeth line services and recent upgrades at Bank Tube station, will deliver a significant overall improvement for customers, with faster journeys across the Docklands and London as a whole.
  • There is no change to train lengths as part of this timetable change.
  • TfL will monitor the impact of these changes, including by reviewing customer and staff feedback, to ensure it is delivering as intended for our customers.
  • A new Elizabeth line timetable will be introduced from Sunday 21 May providing more peak time trains between Paddington and Whitechapel and also Canary Wharf and Abbey Wood. There will also be improved connections to Heathrow Airport with more trains running to the airport all day, and trains from Shenfield directly to Heathrow for the first time.

The trains have been given a major revamp on the outside with the red, black and blue colour scheme being replaced by white and turquoise.

‘The trains will now go through testing ahead of introduction in 2024 to ensure they provide the reliability both we and our customers expect. I look forward to seeing these across the network and helping contribute to the DLR’s continuing success.’

The DLR operates across six Opportunity Areas in London, which have the potential to provide more than 124,000 homes and 200,000 jobs.

DLR timetable promises quicker and easier journeys

Transport for London (TfL) has announced that customers will benefit from quicker, easier and more comfortable journeys across the DLR network with the introduction of a new timetable from 26 September 2022. The changes will help people access housing, employment and leisure opportunities more easily across Docklands and east London.

Since the opening of the Elizabeth line in May 2022 and with people travelling to the office and leisure activities more frequently, the way customers use the DLR has changed. The new timetable will help ensure there are more trains available where people need them.

The new timetable will mean more frequent services will run for longer in the evening and on weekends, supporting an increase in leisure travel. The changes also help minimise interchange waiting times with the Elizabeth line at Canary Wharf, Custom House and Stratford stations – making journeys across the city even quicker.

All DLR routes will benefit from more frequent services, helping to reduce waiting times and minimise crowding, especially at the busiest times.

Tom Page, TfL’s General Manager for the DLR, said: “It is fantastic to see customers regularly using the DLR again and we want to make sure the timetable provides the best possible service. The changes will help our customers complete their journeys more quickly and easily.”

Long-term UK government settlement agreed with Transport for London

Main service changes

Stratford to canary wharf.

Weekday peak services will run every four minutes rather than the current six to seven minutes, while daytime and early evening services will run every five minutes rather than every ten minutes.

Stratford to Lewisham via Canary Wharf

Every other train from Stratford, during weekday morning peak services, will continue to Lewisham providing a service every two to four minutes between Canary Wharf and Lewisham.

Canning Town to Beckton

The Canning Town to Beckton shuttle is being re-introduced during the off-peak and being introduced for the first time during the peak. The shuttle will complement existing services, which means a service will operate on the route every four minutes during the morning and evening weekday peaks, currently every eight minutes, and every five minutes during off-peak daytimes throughout the week.

Improved services in the evening and at weekends

The timetable change will mean more frequent services will run for longer in the evening and on weekends.

Further improvements will be made across the DLR network , including modern, walk-through, air-conditioned trains, which are due to enter service from 2024. These will provide further significant improvements to waiting times, crowding and customer experience, as well as supporting housing growth and economic re-development across the Docklands and east London.

Easter weekend London Overground and DLR closures to be aware of

Here’s how to avoid chaos in the UK this weekend if you’re travelling by car .

If you’re planning on getting about London this weekend, there is some good news. While the Blackwall Tunnel has planned closures , those aren’t taking place this weekend, and there aren’t any train strikes scheduled either .

Is transport running on Good Friday?

Transport will be running on Good Friday, but services will be reduced compared to a typical Friday service.

The DLR will be disrupted, with no service between Westferry / Canary Wharf and Stratford / Canning Town, plus no service between Tower Gateway and Shadwell. Meanwhile, only trains towards Bank will serve West India Quay.

On the Elizabeth line, there will be a reduced service operating between Paddington and Maidenhead / Heathrow. There’ll also be no trains between Abbey Wood / Stratford and Paddington. Trains will operate between Shenfield and Liverpool Street National Rail station (not serving Whitechapel) and between Paddington National Rail station and Heathrow / Reading

On the Overground, there’ll be no services between Highbury & Islington and New Cross / New Cross Gate / Clapham Junction.

Ed Gamble tour poster on a tube platform now featuring a cucumber

Mind the grub: comic Ed Gamble’s hotdog banned from tube ads

Poster for sausage-themed show fell foul of Transport for London rules on promoting unhealthy food

Some comics complain that their craft is under threat from “cancel culture”. For comedians with a sausage-themed standup tour, they might have a point, after Ed Gamble was forced to remove a picture of a hotdog from posters on the tube network promoting his forthcoming show because it breached Transport for London’s junk food advertising policy.

The comic was pictured with the fast-food item in an advert for his show Hot Diggity Dog. When the design was sent to TfL for display on the underground, Gamble was told to alter the poster because it failed to comply with the organisation’s advertising policy on featuring foods high in fat, sugar and salt.

The comedian swapped the hotdog for a cucumber to get the promotional material on display.

Gamble said: “I actually don’t have a problem with the TfL regulations; they make sense to me. But the new posters promote something way more harmful: the idea that cucumbers pair well with ketchup and mustard. I’m not sad to have to remove the hotdog. It was only featured on the poster because I wanted to eat during the photoshoot.

“Hopefully it’s not too late to change the title of the show to Cu Diggity Cucumber?”

In a post on Instagram, he described the incident as a career highlight and added: “TfL told me I couldn’t have a hot dog on my poster to promote my Hackney Empire shows in June. I guess I’m dangerous? So I’ve replaced it with a cucumber. Eat your greens, kids!”

A spokesperson for TfL said: “We welcome all advertising on our network that complies with our published guidance.

“Following a review of the advert, we advised that elements would need to be removed or obscured to ensure it complied with our policy.

“A revised advert is now running on the network and we are always happy to work with people to ensure adverts follow our policy.”

The ban on junk food advertising across London’s public transport network came into force in 2019.

after newsletter promotion

Regulations forbid posters for food and drink high in fat, salt and sugar on the underground and overground, as well as buses and bus shelters.

A 2022 study led by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine estimated that the ban had contributed to a 1,000-calorie decrease in unhealthy purchases in people’s weekly shopping. The biggest effects were seen for chocolate and confectionery with an almost 20% decrease, or 317.9 calories, in average weekly household purchases of energy from these products.

The decrease works out to be about 385 calories a person a week, equivalent to every Londoner in the study buying about 1.5 fewer standard-size bars of milk chocolate each week.

So me and my fiancée are at the point of setting up a interview... I think.

Does one set the interview date first to set a medical appointment or do you set the medical before date before you can set the interview?

So trying to set up a interview date and it says none are available at the Moscow embassy.

How often do trey post interview dates?

my fiancées login was locked out for 72 hours and we cannot even check anymore.

What did we do that caused them to lock it out? We don’t want to do that twice

Usually you set up your interview appointment and then set your medical date. At least around when our case was approved, they typically had interviews on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If your fiancee doesn't have any K-2 children and already has all her vaccinations done, then you can do your medical two days before your interview and be fine; otherwise, you may want another day. So if your fiancee can't make Moscow in a reasonable day trip, it's easier if you get a Thursday date for your interview and do the medical on Monday or Tuesday (that's what Anastasia did, since it's a 12-hour overnight train trip from her hometown to Moscow).

Unfortunately, Moscow is very unpredictable on this. They didn't have any K-1 interviews in December 2018 or March 2019, as far as I know... but managed to clear most of the backlog that had built up in late 2018 in Jan 2019, so Anastasia didn't have too much trouble getting an interview for February in mid-January.

If your fiancee searches on Russian-language forums, she can probably find a WhatsApp group of fiancees to join that keeps track of interview openings in Moscow ( @Lars & Sasha  can also point you in the right direction there, but several exist).

I think that's caused by accessing the site too frequently, but I don't know what the rules are.

When they do post opening days is it usually beginning  of the month or the week? Or is it just random? And is it off of Moscow time zone?

She has no kids and it’s an overnight train ride or a 5 hour drive to Moscow from where she lives. So if she had a Thursday interview she would need a Tuesday medical? I thought the paper work said 10-14 days before

 Thanks for your help

Russia's Nuclear Deterrent Command Center Imperiled by Winter Freeze—Report

A Russian nuclear deterrent command center in Moscow has been imperiled by power outages that have impacted more than one-quarter of the region's cities amid freezing temperatures, a Russian Telegram channel has reported.

The VChK-OGPU outlet, which purports to have inside information from Russian security forces, reported that the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings—part of the Russian Space Forces, a branch of the country's Aerospace Forces—near Solnechnogorsk in Moscow is without power.

It serves as the space forces early warning network against potential ballistic missile attacks.

The development comes as Russians are reported to be suffering from power outages in their homes in the Moscow region caused by technical issues at plants amid subzero temperatures.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is about 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov and Naro-Fominsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky and Selyatino are also without power.

The Telegram channel said that at the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings, "the crew...is on duty around the clock."

"It is here that the decision on a retaliatory nuclear strike is executed," the channel said.

Newsweek could not independently verify the report and has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry by email for comment.

Power outages have also been reported in Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, in the country's western Voronezh region, in the southwest city of Volgograd, and in Rostov, which borders Ukraine, a country that Russia has been at war with since February 24, 2022.

On Sunday, two shopping malls in St. Petersburg were forced to close because of problems with light and heating, reported local news outlet 78.ru. Hundreds of other homes in the city have had no electricity, water or heating for days amid temperatures of -25 C (-13 F).

Russian authorities have also been forced to compensate passengers of a train that ran from Samara to St. Petersburg (a 20-hour journey) without heating during -30 C (-22 F) temperatures. Videos circulating on social media showed carriage windows frozen over. A passenger also said the toilet didn't work during the trip because of frozen pipes.
