Hilton Honors: Everything to know about the loyalty program

Katie Genter

Editor's Note

  • Hilton Honors is one of the largest hotel loyalty programs in the world with more than 7,000 properties.
  • While not the most valuable hotel points available, they are easy to earn and redeem, with frequent promotions, bonuses and non-stay redemption options.
  • Hilton top tier status can be yours with the right credit card.

With more than 7,000 hotels in 124 countries across 19 brands, Hilton likely has a property to suit your needs when you are making travel plans. To enhance your vacation, you may consider joining a hotel loyalty program like Hilton Honors.

If you continue to stay at Hilton properties or spend on Hilton cobranded credit cards , you can earn elite status and collect valuable points that can then be redeemed for free nights at Hilton hotels.

Here is everything you need to know about the Hilton Honors program, including an overview of its elite status and how to earn and redeem points.

Hilton Honors program overview

Some Hilton Honors credit cards that offer complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status as a benefit also allow you to spend your way to Hilton Honors Diamond status. Specifically, the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card and The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card offer an upgrade to Hilton Honors Diamond status through the end of the following calendar year when you spend $40,000 on your card in a calendar year.

Meanwhile, the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card offers complimentary Hilton Honors Diamond status as long as you keep the card account open.

Status match to Gold and challenge to Diamond

Hilton Honors frequently offers a status match to Hilton Honors Gold with a challenge to keep Gold or upgrade to Hilton Honors Diamond status.

You can currently request a status match to Hilton Honors Gold and experience how Hilton Honors Gold members travel for the following 90 days. If you stay eight nights within your 90-day trial period, you can keep Gold status through March 31, 2025. If you stay 14 nights within your 90-day trial period, Hilton will upgrade your status to Diamond through March 31, 2025.

However, you'll want to time your status match carefully since the terms and conditions often state that only members who have not previously completed a status match challenge are eligible. Additionally, reward stays do not count toward the status match qualification.

You usually won't get access to elite benefits and earnings unless you book directly with a hotel brand .

Hilton Honors transfer partners

hilton travel cot

You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio. The program occasionally offers transfer bonuses .

However, TPG values Amex points at 2 cents per point and Hilton Honors points at 0.6 cents per point. So, even transferring during a bonus period may not make sense.

How to earn Hilton points

hilton travel cot

There are many ways to earn Hilton points. Although you can earn some points through Hilton Honors partners, many travelers earn most of their points by staying at Hilton properties or through credit card spending.

Hotel stays

You'll earn at least 10 Hilton Honors base points for every dollar you spend at most Hilton brands, although you'll only earn 5 base points per dollar spent at Home2 Suites and Tru by Hilton. You can earn base points on up to four rooms per stay, and you'll earn base points on all eligible charges you make to these rooms. You'll also earn bonus points based on your Hilton Honors status tier.

Hilton Honors often offers promotions that can allow you to earn bonus points on hotel stays.

Credit card spending

Between sizable welcome bonuses and high-category bonuses, it's relatively easy to earn Hilton points quickly using Hilton Honors cobranded credit cards.

  • Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card : Earn 130,000 Hilton Honors points after you spend $3,000 in purchases on the card within the first six months of card membership ($150 annual fee; see rates and fees ).
  • Hilton Honors American Express Card : Earn 80,000 Hilton Honors points after you spend $2,000 in purchases on the new card within your first six months of card membership (no annual fee; see rates and fees ).
  • The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card : Earn 175,000 bonus points after you spend $8,000 on the card in the first six months of card membership (offer ends June 5, 2024, and there's a $195 annual fee; see rates and fees ).
  • Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card : Earn 175,000 Hilton Honors bonus points after you spend $6,000 in purchases on the card within your first six months of card membership ($550 annual fee; see rates and fees ).

The information for the Hilton Aspire card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Hilton Honors has partners through which you can earn and redeem Hilton points.

You can earn Hilton Honors points by riding with Lyft. By linking your Hilton Honors account with your Lyft account , you can earn 3 points per dollar spent on Lyft rides (economy, luxury and extra seats) and 2 points per dollar spent on shared Lyft rides. You can also earn Hilton points on select Alamo, Enterprise and National car rentals .

Finally, by creating an account and linking a credit or debit card to Hilton Honors Dining , you can earn between 2 and 8 points per dollar spent at participating restaurants.

Enrollment is required for select benefits.

Buy Hilton points

Hilton generally sells points for 1 cent each, allowing you to purchase up to 160,000 points for $1,600 per calendar year. However, during some Hilton promotions , you may be able to purchase a larger quantity of points for as low as 0.5 cents apiece.

How to redeem Hilton points

hilton travel cot

Generally, the best way to redeem hotel points is for free nights at the program's participating properties. This is certainly true when it comes to redeeming Hilton Honors points.

Free night awards

Hilton doesn't publish an award chart, but you can use the Points Explorer tool to search for properties based on location and the number of points you're willing to spend per night.

hilton travel cot

Once you've searched by location and the amount of points, you can filter your results based on the brand.

Booking award nights through the Hilton website is easy. From the homepage, type in your destination, dates and number of guests. Before clicking "Find a Hotel," click on "Special Rates" and check the "Use Points" box.

Once you click "Find a Hotel," the award rates for your stay will appear in the search results.

You can click on a specific property to compare rates for each room type. Then, you can quickly decide whether redeeming points is worthwhile.

You can also use the flexible date search to easily view a month at a time. When you enter the dates for your hotel stay, select "Shop by price," and you'll see a calendar view of how much a stay of your chosen length would cost per night for each check-in date.

hilton travel cot

The value you can get from your Hilton points when redeeming for a free night will vary. For example, let's check out how much it would cost to book the new Conrad Orlando . On a random date I checked, the rate is $628 or 90,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Although 90,000 Hilton points is a lot to spend for a night in Orlando, you would get a value of 0.7 cents per point. TPG values Hilton points at 0.6 cents each, so you'd still be getting more than TPG's valuation.

Note that you can also redeem your points for upgraded accommodations . When looking at Pay with Points options for a room, you'll usually see that some rooms cost more than others.

hilton travel cot

While redeeming for a premium room usually won't provide great value, it can be an excellent option for those needing a larger room or wanting an upgraded view.

Fifth night free on awards

Silver, Gold, and Diamond members have access to a fifth night free on award stays. This benefit provides every fifth night free for standard room reward stays of five or more consecutive award nights.

There is no limit on how many times you can use this benefit annually, but Hilton will not award you more than four free nights per stay.

Points & Money rewards

Redeeming for a free night award using Points & Money allows you to stretch your points. Instead of paying all points for a free night, you can use a combination of cash and points. Unlike with other programs, you can even adjust the ratio in increments of 1,000 points (starting at 5,000 points).

Travel rewards

You can transfer your points to 14 airline partners, but you'll usually need to transfer at least 10,000 miles simultaneously, and the transfer ratios aren't favorable.

You can also redeem your Hilton points toward car rentals, Shop with Points at Amazon and Lyft rides. Know, though, that you'll usually only get about 0.2 cents per point on these redemptions. So, I'd recommend avoiding all of these travel rewards options.

Hilton Honors Experiences

If you're looking for a non-hotel award with substantial value, you can redeem points for various experiences through Hilton Honors Experiences . That's how TPG senior writer Katie Genter enjoyed a 60-minute couples massage and a four-course dinner for only 20,000 Hilton points.

Finally, you can donate your points to charity through PointWorthy . For every 3,500 Hilton points you donate, a charity of your choice will get $10.

Related: The 6 best credit cards to maximize your charitable donation

Bottom line

Joining the Hilton's Honors program as a basic member is free. Plus, it will help you earn points to redeem on future stays within the Hilton portfolio. Hilton makes it super easy to earn and redeem points.

If you stay (or are planning to stay) at Hilton properties at least a few times a year, a Hilton cobranded credit card may help you maximize your ability to earn points, which you can redeem for award stays. When it comes to redeeming, you'll get the most value from your Hilton points when you redeem for award nights and, in some cases, Hilton Honors Experiences. I usually stay in increments of five nights when using Hilton points since Hilton Silver, Gold and Diamond members get every fifth night free on award stays.

When you're thinking of essentials for your little one, you probably already have a cosy cot picked out, but what about a travel cot if you love travelling? In addition to packing your baby's travel system and gathering all the necessities before heading off on holiday with your family, a travel cot will help your little one to sleep as soundly as possible, even when you're away from home.

You probably did a lot of research on the best cot and bedside crib for your baby but may not have considered investing in a travel cot yet. Put simply, a travel cot is a portable, lightweight option designed to fold away compactly. Its collapsible sides and storage bag are some of the features that make it the perfect solution for trips away. Like a travel stroller , it's another one of those holiday essentials that you'll want to invest in when travelling with children under 5 years old.

You most likely won't need a travel cot for the first few months, especially if you already have a Moses basket , a portable crib or a carrycot suitable for overnight sleeping. If you don't go away very often, then you might be better off borrowing a cot from a friend, as it can be an expensive purchase if you're only going to be using it once a year.

A lot of hotels and holiday cottages may provide travel cots and other baby equipment, so check with them before you travel. If you are away from home often, then a travel cot is a good purchase, as it will last well past the newborn months and will prove extremely useful at other times, too. For example, for your baby's daytime naps when you're visiting friends or staying over with grandparents overnight. We've enlisted the help of expert mum testers to put the best travel cots through their paces, taking into account the weight, size, price, assembly, age suitability and stability. Our annual  Mother&Baby Awards  also help us bring you the best advice about current products on the market.

The best travel cot 2024

1. venture uk airpod baby and toddler travel cot, best travel cot overall, description.

Silver winner for Best Travel Product Over £30 in the M&B Awards 2023 Designed to provide little ones with a place to rest and play no matter where you are, the Airpod is assembled in just three easy steps with no tools required meaning it's ready to go in less than a minute. The Airpod weighs just 6kg and can be folded into a bag no larger than a big shopping bag.

One M&B awards tester said: "I really liked how small it folded and how light it was. Super portable and barely took space in the car boot. This meant we were able to pack all our other luggage without worrying about space. Also not too heavy so easy to lug around upstairs when we stayed in hotels without lifts."

  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable for baby
  • No raised bassinet

2. Graco FoldLite

Best travel cot for compact fold.

Bronze winner for Best Travel Product Over £30 in the M&B Awards 2023

Suitable from birth to approximately three years old, the FoldLite was hailed by parents for its lightweight frame, but it has also won a prestigious Mother&Baby Awards 2023 Bronze award. Collapsing to only 26cm wide, the FoldLite has a mesh lining and two wheels for easy manoeuvrability, plus it comes with a mattress included. Testers loved the Home Fold feature to help fold away quickly and clear space within seconds.

M&B mum tester Sarah said:  "The Foldlite travel cot has been most useful to us for quick and easy use around the house with a mobile baby. It genuinely is two clicks to put up or down and the house fold setting means I can quickly pop it out from next to the sofa if I need to iron or nip to the toilet and pop it back in a few seconds so it's not taking over the room. It would be invaluable for this in a holiday cottage which is less baby-proofed too! It seems both comfy and robust for my very mobile ten-month-old and he'll play happily in it with some toys thrown in for a while. When folded down for travel it's small and neat and doesn't take up too much valuable boot space when you're already contending with buggies and suitcases. The grandparents popped it up without instructions and my ten-month-old slept happily in it."

  • Folds two ways
  • Convenient carry bag
  • Assembly not totally straightforward

3. Bugaboo Stardust Travel Cot

Best compact travel cot.

www.bugaboo.com

If you're looking for a travel cot that's a doddle to set up and folds away in seconds, this is it – no more grappling with unwieldy parts when you arrive at your destination with a tired baby. We love the clever design, which gives a seamless experience on the go.

Convenient for carrying around your home, it comes with a zip-in carrycot insert, an all-around mesh panel for airflow and a lovely firm and comfortable mattress. The suspended base will protect your little ones from draughts. But, if this happens to be a bit pricey for you, then you can opt for the Cuggl Deluxe Superlight Travel Cot instead.

Mum Meg said: "Very sturdy, easy to pack and unpack, folds up reasonably small, carrying handle makes it easy to transport. Seems comfortable - the newborn bassinet is super convenient for little ones and my babe settled immediately in it."

Parent Matt said: "We bought this for the ease of it 'popping up and down' but also because we could raise the height of the mattress when our baby was very little. There don't seem to be many travel cots that have that design, we used it as much at home for naps as we did on the road. It's a great bit of kit."

  • Includes carrycot insert and mattress
  • Easy to assemble
  • Compact to fold
  • Mattress doesn't include a waterproof cover

4. Cuggl Deluxe Superlight Travel Cot

Best budget travel cot.

www.argos.co.uk

Shortlisted for Best Travel Product Over £25 in the M&B Awards 2019

This deluxe travel cot has a bassinet attachment that clicks easily onto the top, perfect for changing nappies; it has wheels, so it's easy to move around, and setting up and folding away takes just seconds.

Tested by mum Tori: "I would definitely recommend this product to other mums. It's so easy to put up and down and transport with its handy bag. It folds up thin and small fitting in our boot along with the double pram and a few bags! My little one slept perfectly."

Tested by mum Sarah: "If you're looking for an inexpensive no-nonsense travel cot then I would recommend this. It was lightweight so I could easily carry it around. It was also compact making it small enough to pack into the car alongside everything else you need when going away with a little one! Once I'd done the initial set up of the cot, it was easy to put together and to take apart too."

  • Easy to transport with wheels
  • Easy fold down into storage bag
  • Low to the ground

5. Baby Bjorn Travel Cot Light

Best lightweight travel cot.

Shortlisted for Best Travel Product over £25 at the M&B Awards 2015

This travel cot is a real doddle to assemble – just slip it out of its travel bag, and it practically unfolds automatically, so there's no grappling with poles or fiddling with extra accessories. It's also easy to fold away and really light and portable.

It's also easy to move around your home, making it convenient to take with you on trips or overnight visits away. We love that the fabric can be removed and popped in the washing machine – a real bonus if you have a baby with reflux. The materials of this travel cot meet the requirements of OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Class 1 for baby products, which essentially means kind to your baby's sensitive skin.

Tested by mum Nicola: "This is the easiest travel cot to carry as it's amazingly light, but it's less robust than others – Amelia can push it around by herself. It's really practical, taking seconds to pop up. It's less attractive than others in terms of design appeal, but Amelia slept well in it and seemed very comfortable. It also comes with a nice carry bag, which makes it easy to transport."

  • Easy assemble
  • Machine washable fabric
  • Made with sensitive skin in mind
  • Harder to dry

6. Joie Excursion Change and Bounce

Best newborn travel cot.

www.very.co.uk

This versatile travel cot comes with lots of extra accessories, so it's great value for money. There's a full-size bassinet, which snaps easily on and off as required, as well as a change unit and portable bouncing seat. It folds compactly and comes with its own travel storage bag.

There are lots of sound and light features, including a soothing sound vibration, plus five classical lullabies and nature sounds. The two integrated wheels make it easy to move from room to room, and there's also a nightlight with three brightness settings.

Tested by mum Kathryn: "This was quite difficult to assemble – I had to enlist my husband's help. It's sturdy and almost as big as a normal cot. The wheels make it easy to move. Olly is too old for the extra accessories, but they'd be fantastic for a newborn. Olly likes the sounds, and the light is great for night changes without fully waking him. A real investment that will grow with your baby.

Tested by mum Nicola: "The mesh sides enabled me to check on Amelia without getting out of bed, and she liked being able to see us when she woke up. The mattress seems very comfortable, and the colours and pattern of this travel cot are really appealing. The extra accessories aren't suitable past 12 months, and this travel cot is quite heavy – I would struggle to move it from room to room without help."

  • Extra accessories
  • Great value for money
  • Sound, vibration and nightlight settings

7. Nuna Sena Aire Travel Cot

Best travel cot mattress.

www.johnlewis.com

Shortlisted for Best Travel Product over £25 at the M&B Awards 2018

This stylish, contemporary travel cot takes seconds to put together and is reasonably quick and easy to fold, even with a baby in your arms. We love the bassinet accessory, which makes this brilliant for use from birth. It has a sturdy aluminium frame and a triple-layered mattress.

Doubling up as a play space, this travel cot has padded edges to prevent pinched fingers, and it also comes with an organic cotton sheet included and its own bag to store and transport it in.

Tested by mum Kirsty: "This is reasonably straightforward to set up but it doesn't fold very neatly, and packing it away is fiddly. It's sturdy but feels heavy and it takes up lots of space in our small car boot. The bassinet makes it easy to lift Rikku in and out, but I found it fiddly to detach. I like that this comes with a machine-washable sheet, which stays in place with velcro."

Tested by mum Nicola: "I really like this travel cot because it's so sturdy. It also looks very stylish. Amelia slept really well in this. It's simple to assemble and comes with a lovely, thick mattress plus a machine-washable sheet. The only disadvantage is that it's quite heavy. I think I would struggle to get this from one place to another by myself."

Read our full review of the Nuna Sena Aire

  • Padded edges
  • Triple-layered mattress
  • Comes with its own storage bag
  • Not as lightweight as other options

8. Graco Contour Electra

Best value travel cot.

www.boots.com

The Graco Contour is a good-value travel cot with lots of extra features. It comes with a toy bar and a handy removable changing table. It has a nightlight and musical feature, as well as the option to set the mattress to vibrate to help soothe your baby. There are four mesh sides so you can keep an eye on your little one, and also great for ventilation. It's heavy, but the wheels make it easy to manoeuvre, and it comes with its own carry bag.

Tested by mum Nicola: "This is quick and easy to assemble. It seems compact and fits really well in a smaller room without taking up lots of space. The mattress is very thin, and Amelia didn't sleep very well. The cream colour looks lovely, but I imagine it could get dirty very quickly. The changing unit is a great idea, but it's only suitable for use up to 12 months."

Tested by mum Kathryn: "One of the heaviest travel cots we tested, but it's a good size for an older baby – almost the same size as our normal cot. It's easy to assemble and put away and I like the neutral colour. The wheels make it very easy to move around, but you have to bend low to reach your baby. This would have been great for daytime naps when Olly was younger. Great value, too."

  • Compact fold
  • Has wheels for easy transporting
  • Removable changing table
  • Some reviewers struggled to assemble it

9. Baby Elegance Kangu Foldable Bedside Sleeper

Best bassinet-style travel cot.

www.ebay.co.uk

We love the innovative way this travel cot converts between two different modes, with a bassinet level for younger babies to cot, and the fact that you can use it in either fixed or rocking mode. This travel cot is worth considering if you're really short on luggage space, as it's particularly compact once folded and one of the lightest travel cots we found. This is another top pick for newborns, so be aware you won't be able to use it much beyond six months old.

Mum, Eileen, reviewed: "This was the best purchase we made for our baby. We can't fit a cot in our bedroom and needed something that would last longer than the moses basket. Our little boy sleeps so well in it and it's so easy to pick it up and carry downstairs. We have travelled with it too and it folds down neatly."

  • Folds into storage bag
  • Legs can adjust to fix in position or allow for gentle rocking motion
  • Extremely lightweight
  • Only able to use until 6 months

10. Bizzi Growin POD Travel Crib

Best carrycot travel cot.

This is a really clever invention; it looks like a really spacious changing bag, but then off you pop for your overnight stay, take everything out of the bag, and it changes into a travel crib. It doesn't take long to assemble and comes with a padded mattress. It isn't as long-lasting as the other travel cots on our list, as it's really only suitable until baby is four to six months old or when they start rolling; it's the smallest travel cot but the most compact and easy to carry.

Tested by mum Jennifer: "The design is stylish and the item is extremely easy to use. The travel cot section folds out in a few seconds and the rods are easily inserted to make it very sturdy. This means a new mum (who has little time on her hands) can easily erect this in minutes. It is easily transported and takes up no more than a bag's room in the car or walking, so it can be taken anywhere. I have only used this at friends/ families homes but definitely would take it on weekends away or on holiday. It means I don't have to buy a big travel cot. It is also lightweight so don't have to worry about carrying something heavy."

Tested by mum Esther: "Designed as a travel sleeping pod, for nighttime and daytime naps, and a changing bag. It's intended to be quick to assemble and easy to use. I assembled it in a couple of minutes, it weighs as much as a bag or two of sugar and the bag would easily fit in amongst other items in a packed car. When assembled, the sleeping pod is a reasonable size, probably usable up to 4-6 months (unless your baby is rolling lots). We used the pod whilst away for the weekend and found it very useful, as we already had a travel cot packed for our older child and couldn't have fitted a second in the car."

  • Includes mosquito net
  • Can be used as a changing bag
  • Extremely compact and lightweight to carry
  • Long dispatch time currently

11. BabyDan Travel Cot

Best long-lasting travel cot.

This travel cot represents good value for money, especially because it can be used from birth up to approximately three years of age. It's also very sturdy, which means it doubles up as a playpen for smaller babies. And although fairly large, it features wheels and a brake to make it easier to transport. The cot also comes with a small toy bag attached, which could be useful for storing nappies or other baby essentials when you're on the move and away from home.

Reviewer Sophie said: "This is an excellent travel cot. The cot is incredibly easy for one person to put up and can be fully set up and usable within minutes. Folding the cot away is just as simple; and it folds down into such a compact size which is then stored in a carry case that it is easy to stow away. I would recommend this cot for a number of reasons: It is lightweight, compact, it is a full size cot, can be used as a playpen, it is simple to errect and dismantle, it is very strong and sturdy, my baby loves to be in it, it has a useful storage pouch at one end. I intially set the cot up in the sitting room as a play pen/nap time cot. It is a full size cot so does take up some room but it means that the cot will last for several years before the baby outgrows it."

12. Red Kite Black Sleep Tight Travel Cot

Best simple travel cot.

direct.asda.com

The Sleeptight Travel Cot is an award-winning sleep solution from Red Kite. Stored in a carry bag, the Sleeptight Travel Cot is lightweight and compact folding. It is the perfect choice for holidays, visiting friends and family or for your own home.

Mum Kat said: "Having now used this multiple times, I'm really impressed with it - it's good quality and not too bulky when folded so fits easily into my small car boot along with all the other baby paraphernalia needed for a night away! It's really easy to put up and take down and it's so helpful that the instructions are printed onto the underside of the mattress - what a great idea (these sleep-deprived parents are very grateful for this design feature!) You must put it up/take it down in the right order or you will struggle to get it folded correctly. My baby has always slept well in it on various nights and weeks away. We use a waterproof sheet and cot sheet on top of the mattress, job done! For the price paid, it's exceptionally good value. 10/10!"

  • Central locking base for extra safety
  • Easy to fold and store in the storage bag
  • See-through mesh sides
  • Mattress is very thin

13. Kinderkraft Cot 4 in 1 SOFI

Best 4 in 1 travel cot.

Rrp: £ 139.99

A practical trade cot which also doubles as a playpen, cradle and everyday cot, the SOFI is a great purchase. It is suitable for babies and toddlers from birth to 15kg and it's lightweight and wash to fold, plus it includes a storage bag which makes it easy to carry when travelling. The SOFI has mesh sides to ensure you can see your little one and for good airflow. It also comes with a mattress and cover and the frame can be used as a rocking frame too.

One reviewer said: "Slightly narrower than some travel cots, but that was what we needed as it is going to be the cot for when our new grandson stays with us and it needed to fit in the spare room. I love that it is on 2 levels so suitable for a new born as well as a toddler, though not sure if grandson will fit past the age of 2. It is so easy to fold and put up and comes in a cover so can be stored under another bed. Also great that while you use the top level, things can be stored underneath. It looks very stylish too. Only slight problem is the fitting of sheets. It is fiddly and you need to lift the mattress to be able to fit the sheet and tuck it in. But it is doable, so very happy with purchase."

  • Can be used with or without rocking function
  • Mattress can be used at two different levels
  • Looks stylish
  • Slightly narrower than standard travel cots

Travel cots – All you need to know:

Choosing the right travel cot for you and your child.

Think about where and when you'll use a travel cot. If you are throwing it in the car boot when you're going to Granny's, check how bulky it is when folded and make sure it fits along with your pushchair and still leaves enough room for your luggage. If you're buying for your holiday and you'll be travelling to your destination by plane, boat or other public transport, choose one that folds very compactly to make it easier to pack. Consider, too, where you'll keep it at home when it's not in use.

Unpacking your travel cot after a long journey with a tired baby can be stressful, so choose something quick and easy to set up. Some travel cots can be assembled and folded with one hand, which is a lifesaver if you're holding your baby.

Some travel cots are designed to double as playpens , creating somewhere safe for your baby to play when she's awake. This is useful when you're away from home, especially if you're staying somewhere that's less baby-friendly, without any baby-proofing products , than your normal environment. This type of travel cot has added value as you can get more use out of it than a standard travel cot but check the manufacturer's guidelines before you buy to ensure it's safe to use as a playpen.

Features to consider before purchasing a travel cot

Here are some travel cot features to look out for when deciding on which travel cot is best for you and your baby.

Travel cots come with a mattress supplied, but some are comfier than others. Check how thick it is and whether it provides enough support for a good night's sleep. If not, thicker travel cot mattresses can be purchased separately – but that's an extra expense and something else to pack!

Fold mechanism

As well as checking how simple it is to assemble the travel cot, make sure you can fold it away again easily. Could you do it in a hurry if you're dashing to the airport? If you have older children, make sure inquisitive little fingers can't access the mechanism for folding the travel cot when it's in use.

Most travel cots have mesh sides to encourage airflow and enable you to see your baby easily when they're sleeping. Check the quality of the fabric and how easy it is to wipe clean.

If you want to move the cot elsewhere in the house for daytime naps or playpen use, choose one with wheels for easy manoeuvrability.

Standard cot bedding may not fit your travel cot, so check what size bedding is required and factor in any extra expense. Make sure the bedding fits the mattress securely with no loose fabric.

Choose a travel cot with side panels that zip open and closed if you'd like to be able to reach your baby without bending low over the side of the cot. If it doubles as a playpen, a 'window' to crawl through can add to the fun.

If you plan to travel with your baby to a climate where mosquitoes might bother them, choose a travel cot with an insect net, and check it fits the travel cot securely.

What age are travel cots advised for?

Travel cots come in a variety of sizes and styles, and they all have different upper age and/or weight limits. Consider how old your child will be when using the travel cot, and choose one suitable for their age. Most of the travel cots in our list above can be used from birth until your baby weighs 15kg, which is approximately three years old. Keep in mind that once your baby makes the transition from sleeping in a cot to a bed, they'll probably prefer a bed to a travel cot when away from home overnight.

Can I travel on a plane with a travel cot?

Yes! Although all airlines will have their own rules on luggage allowances, but if you are flying with a baby then typically parents of infants are allowed to take at least two items - e.g. travel cot, buggy or car seat - at no extra cost.

If you're buying a travel cot to take on holiday and are travelling by plane, boat or train, choose one that folds as compactly as possible to make it easier to transport. If you're driving, make sure it fits in your car boot and still leaves enough room for the rest of your luggage.

Think about where you'll keep the travel cot when it's not in use, too. If space is not an issue, you could look into the larger options available.

All travel cots are designed to be light enough to carry, but some are heavier than others, and there's generally a pay-off between how light it is and how durable it is.

If you'll be carrying it a lot on your journey, such as through an airport, then weight may take priority, but if you've got a cruising toddler, and throwing the cot in a big boot is about the extent of your lugging it around, then a sturdier, perhaps heavier, cot would be better.

How to assemble a travel cot

Wrestling with an unwieldy travel cot and a tired baby after a long journey is stress you really don't need in your life, so choose one that doesn't require an engineering degree to set up. While how to put up a travel cot differs depending on the brand, some can be assembled and folded away within seconds, even with one hand– and that's a really helpful feature if you're going to be assembling it with your baby or other children in tow.

Where can I buy a travel cot?

Whether you need one pronto or want to spend your time researching the perfect travel cot, there are plenty of places where you can pick one. We'd recommend these trusted retailers that offer great products and plenty of reviews so you can make sure you're buying the right one for your little one:

John Le wis

Mamas & Papas

Supermarkets also hold baby events where you can often pick up travel cots and other accessories for a great price. These include:

Can I buy a travel cot second-hand?

If you're looking to buy a second-hand travel cot, there are a few things to check before you make your purchase:

• Check that it assembles and folds down correctly

• Make sure it's sturdy

• Make sure the seller provides you with the original instruction booklet

It's also worth purchasing a new mattress for the travel cot

How to clean your travel cot

If your travel cot has been tucked away in the loft for a few years and it smells a bit musty, or your child has turned it into a bit of a mess, a good tip for cleaning is to use warm soapy water and a sponge.

Make sure to leave it out in the fresh air and sunlight to dry.

Travel cot safety

There are a number of safety aspects to check on your travel cot for your peace of mind.

Stability: Be sure to use the mattress that comes with the cot, as changing it could affect the stability of the cot and could make it easier to tip.

Escaping: Swapping for a thicker mattress could give your tot more height and make it easier for them to escape.

Corners: Be wary of how smooth corners are - make sure there is no chance of your baby's clothes getting caught on them to avoid any chance of strangulation.

Flexible sides: Pop-up-style tents may be easy to erect and dismantle; however, the flexible sides mean that if you were to stumble onto the cot, there would be no ridged sides to stop your fall.

Zips: Make sure you check all zips are secure, as any loose zips that become unattached could potentially become choking hazards.

Wheels: The wheels must be able to securely lock into place or have two wheels and two legs for sturdiness.

Test it out: Make sure you try it out before you travel to check all of the above safety aspects.

Safe sleeping in a travel cot

The general consensus is that you need to be following the same sleeping guidance for your baby in a travel cot as you would at home.

Here's what The Lullaby Trust have to say:

"The same 'safer sleep' rules apply to a travel cot, which should have a rigid frame and base, and a firm, flat mattress, covered in a waterproof material. Travel cot mattresses are often thinner and feel harder than those in a permanent cot, but don't be tempted to place folded blankets or a quilt under the baby to make them 'more comfortable'. If you are very tight for space, you may have to consider re-arranging the furniture in the room to ensure that the travel cot isn't against a radiator, in direct sunlight, and is out of reach of blind cords and hazards."

How we tested and chose these travel cots

Every year, our panel of real mums tests and reviews parenting products such as travel cots for the annual Mother&Baby Awards.

Our list of the best car seats for travel cots comes recommended by like-minded parents – who have experienced these car seats personally.

The Mother&Baby Awards parent testers are provided with some guidelines while testing, so that they take into consideration four key areas: usability, design, quality and value for money. We ask them to score each of these out of 10, as well as give their overall impression of the product.

Getting ahold of a customer service representative can be a challenge, especially when it comes to large corporations with many departments. Hilton offers several ways for guests to receive assistance, including by phone or email, through the hotel’s app, or online.

Here's how to contact Hilton hotel customer service so you can get your questions answered quickly.

Contact Hilton customer service by phone

If you need to reach a Hilton customer service representative, you can contact them by phone. While you can find a list of global Hilton customer service numbers on the hotel chain’s website, the main Hilton customer service number for U.S.-based travelers is 888-4HONORS (888-446-6677).

Elite status members get their own dedicated Hilton Honors customer service phone number at 800-4HONORS (800-446-6677).

Note that hold times can vary based on call volume, and not all of Hilton’s customer service numbers outside of the U.S. are toll-free. Check Hilton's website to find out whether the number you plan on calling is toll-free.

We recommend contacting Hilton by phone for time-sensitive or complex issues or questions.

For example, a phone call would be best if you accidentally booked a nonrefundable stay at the wrong hotel or if you noticed incorrect charges on your hotel bill.

You’ll need to call Hilton customer service at 800-4HONORS if you have a Hilton free night certificate that you want to redeem.

Contact Hilton customer service online

If you need Hilton customer service assistance that isn’t time-sensitive — like changing the name on your account or leaving feedback about a recent stay — you can reach out to Hilton customer service online .

On the Hilton customer service page, you’ll see a “How can we help?” search bar at the top followed by a form to submit a question or comment and your contact information.

hilton travel cot

For more general questions — such as “How do I look up an existing reservation?” or “Hotel information and policies” — you can start by either entering your question into the “How can we help?” toolbar or by clicking “Chat Now” on the right side to be connected with a virtual assistant.

The “Chat Now” virtual assistant feature is beneficial because it answers basic questions and can connect you to a live customer service representative. By typing “Can you connect me to an agent?” you’ll be connected to one, although wait times can vary.

At the Hilton customer support site, you can also submit your question, comment or issue by filling out a few basic pieces of information, including your contact information.

After submitting the form online, you’ll get a confirmation message letting you know approximately how long it will take for Hilton to respond. In the example below, Hilton states its goal is to respond within seven to 10 days.

Contact Hilton customer service through the Hilton app

One of my favorite ways to contact Hilton customer service is through the Hilton app. When you open the Hilton app, click the “Help” button in the bottom right corner:

hilton travel cot

Once you click “Help,” you’ll be brought to a page with a search box, a list of popular topics and the option to chat with a representative or request a phone call.

hilton travel cot

The app is a great way to contact customer service. It provides you with answers to basic questions and allows you to chat directly with a customer service agent on your phone or request a call so you don’t have to spend time waiting on hold.

Another feature I love about the Hilton app is that you can contact your hotel directly, starting a few days before your visit. To contact a Hilton hotel directly using the Hilton app, open the app, click “Stays” at the bottom, find your reservation and click “Message hotel.”

hilton travel cot

Contacting your hotel directly through the app can be helpful if you have specific requests — like dietary restrictions or an early check-in — or if an issue comes up during your stay.

Contact Hilton customer service by email

Another way to get help is through a Hilton customer service email, but note that you can only do this for Hilton Honors-related requests, like missing points or questions about benefits. There are different email addresses based on region:

General inquiries and English-language assistance for the United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East and Africa : [email protected] .

Mexico, Latin America and South America : [email protected] .

France : [email protected] .

Germany : [email protected] .

Italy : [email protected] .

Spain : [email protected] .

Middle East and Africa : [email protected] .

Asia : [email protected] .

Response time can vary and, unlike submitting feedback via Hilton’s website, Hilton doesn’t give an estimated time frame for when an agent will respond to your email.

There are several ways to contact Hilton customer service, including by phone, online, via the Hilton app and by email.

The best way to contact Hilton customer service will depend on the reasons for your inquiry, how time-sensitive it is, and your preferred method of communicating with customer service representatives.

hilton travel cot

Does the hotel have cots? We are a group of nine moms and adult daughters and I would like to book two rooms instead of three.

hilton travel cot

I wondered about that. The live chat told me they were two separate buildings with two separate checkin counters. I told her the two signs are on one building. Are the halls connected and rooms accessible between the two hotels? Thank you

hilton travel cot

Tru has smaller, very streamlined rooms. Home2Suites might be a better option, as they have fold out couches. But the cost for a couple of rooms there would probably be the same (or more) than 4 rooms at Tru.

hilton travel cot

I do not think that would work at this hotel. The rooms are too small. You might find another hotel in the area that has a similar option, but I don't think it will be easy without finding a hotel that has suites.

hilton travel cot

Not much floor space in the room, ok for two people (we stayed in a double queen), but any more people than that you are going to be on top of each other. I don't know if bigger rooms are available. Bathroom mirror is only big enough for one person at a time, too. For everyone's sanity, if you have 9 people, get 4 rooms, at least.

hilton travel cot

Maybe on the other side part 2. but no very small space

hilton travel cot

I don’t know but there is no room for them in the room.

hilton travel cot

good luck trying to fit them in the rooms. There is literally no space for one. Try booking a room in the Home2 part (the two are co-located in the same space. They have rooms with sleeper sofas.

Hilton Pensacola Beach [In-Depth Hotel Review]

Getting There

In early January 2024, I visited the Hilton Pensacola Beach with my family of 5. While the temperature outside was cold for Florida standards, the service was warm, and we had a great stay at one of my family’s favorite hotels. While it was just a quick overnight rest stop on our way to Orlando, this beautiful beachfront hotel once again left us wanting to return soon.

My family loved the sun-soaked beach, delicious in-room breakfast, and fantastic balcony view. And since we were there in the winter, our room rate was an absolute bargain.

Read on to see more about what we enjoyed and what this Pensacola Beach gem has to offer guests.

Hilton Pensacola Beach is on the Florida Panhandle and sits on one of Florida’s best beaches with powdery white sands and crystal blue waters. A beachfront hotel, Hilton Pensacola Beach has excellent beach access, as you may expect from the name itself, so you don’t need to leave the property to enjoy a day in the sand.

The hotel is on Pensacola Beach’s main road, Via De Luna Drive, convenient to many local attractions , including shops and restaurants surrounding the hotel.

The Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier is just a 10-minute walk or 2-minute drive away, and the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk is the same distance away, just in another direction.

It was just a 7-minute drive to reach the otherworldly white sand dunes of Gulf Island National Seashore’s Fort Pickens area .

Hilton Pensacola Beach location Gulf Islands National Seashore

Fort Pickens and the Fort Pickens Discovery Center are about a 25-minute drive from the hotel and well worth a detour, even if all you do is take the scenic sandbar drive. If you have more time, we found the fort interesting to explore and take in sights, and the visitor center had excellent educational exhibits.

Visitors can see Pensacola’s annual air show featuring the Blue Angels , the Naval Aviation team based at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola . There are also Blue Angels practice flights at the National Naval Aviation Museum from March through November.

While the hotel is in an excellent location for exploring Pensacola Beach, you might not want to leave the property much, if at all. Why go elsewhere for a beach when there’s a perfect one just steps from the hotel pool?

We drove to Hilton Pensacola Beach from our home near Houston. This was an overnight rest stop for us on our way to Orlando, and it took us a little under 9 hours to reach the property.

We’ve visited Hilton Pensacola Beach a few times, usually as a last-minute rest stop on Orlando road trips. The drive to and from Orlando and Houston is a long one, taking approximately 15 hours by car. I don’t love the long drive, but I keep getting convinced to drive instead of fly, partly because I like stops such as Pensacola and New Orleans along the way.

If you’re flying into Pensacola International Airport (PNS) , the hotel is about 20 to 25 minutes away, depending on traffic. Hilton Pensacola Beach offers recommendations for airport shuttles and advises that you’ll pay between $40 to $70 for a taxi or Uber between the airport and the hotel.

While we usually try to see how far we can get and leave our options open for the night, I booked this night well ahead of time because we love visiting this property , and I knew it would be perfect for a visit to Gulf Islands National Seashore.

I like visiting this hotel in the off-season because even in January, we can enjoy the amenities and dip our toes in the ocean. We’ve only experienced beautiful sunny but chilly winter days on Pensacola Beach, though each time we visit, we vow to come back and enjoy it properly when it’s warm enough to swim.

We’ve only ever visited Hilton Pensacola Beach in the winter, so I’ve never paid more than $150 for a night at this property. The nightly rate for this stay was just $115 . We could have easily paid the same rate or more at a lesser hotel closer to our route on I-10, but we went out of our way to stay here because it’s a lovely beachfront property with excellent off-season value.

Hilton Pensacola Beach room rate

Of course, there’s a reason we paid so little for our January stay: it was cold! Looking ahead to warmer days, you can expect to pay $300 or more per night for spring and summer stays at this property.

Hilton Pensacola Beach June booking prices

Due to my Hilton Honors Diamond elite status, our $15 parking fee was waived, but we got room service breakfast, so our bill for the night was $189 after my elite $30 food and beverage credit. I used my Hilton Honors American Express Surpass ®  Card to pay for the stay. This was my first Hilton stay in the new year, triggering the card’s quarterly $50 Hilton credit . With the credit applied, my final total for this stay was $139 — incredibly low for a beachfront stay with room service for 5.

Despite the extensive amenities, there was no resort fee .

I earned 1,664 Hilton Honors base points for this stay, another 1,664 for the 100% Diamond bonus, and 1,000 Diamond MyWay bonus points. Once my Hilton Surpass card statement closed, I earned another 1,992 points for a total of 6,320 points earned on this stay .

Considering we value Hilton Honors points at 0.5 cents per point, I got about $30 back in points value from this stay.

The points cost is fairly reasonable at this hotel, as low as 32,000 points per night for a king bedroom.

Checking In

We arrived in the evening to a full parking lot, so I left most of my family in the car at the entrance roundabout while I checked in.

Hilton Pensacola Beach front view

The hotel has a covered drive where you can leave your car during check-in.

Hilton Pensacola Beach entryway

I was instantly impressed walking in the front door. This was our first visit since Hurricane Sally damaged the property in 2020. The lobby was noticeably renovated for the better , particularly the front desk. The stone front desk with wooden slat walls looked sharp, but we were mostly drawn to the huge screen behind the desk that featured captivating sea life scenes.

Hilton Pensacola Beach front desk

The front desk agent who checked me in was exceptionally friendly. She thanked me for my Diamond status, then took her time to explain all the details of my stay. Parking was free as a Diamond member, a surprise perk I only learned about at check-in. However, she advised me that the main parking lot was under renovation and we’d need to park at the conference center lot nearby.

Another major point she went over was my $30 food and beverage credit . She gave me menus for all of the dining options in the hotel, including a kids’ menu, as I’d brought my youngest along to help me check in.

The agent also looked for an available upgrade and found us a double queen room with a beach view. I was thrilled because I went all of 2023 as a Diamond member without an upgrade, but we started 2024 strong with a beautiful beach balcony sunrise, thanks to this upgrade.

As a Hilton Diamond member staying at a Hilton property, my elite benefits included:

  • Space-available room upgrade
  • 1,000 bonus Hilton Honors points
  • $30 nightly food and beverage credit ($15 for me and another guest)
  • Free parking
  • Free premium Wi-Fi

The lobby was spacious and bright, with tall ceilings and some couch seating. There was a coffee shop and gift shop across from the front desk before reaching the main restaurant and exit to the beach.

We found themed Christmas trees throughout the lobby, including a Blue Angels beach ball tree at the front door.

Hilton Pensacola Beach has excellent amenities, including pristine beach access , an extensive pool area, bike rentals, and an art gallery. It’s a shame we’ve never had the time or appropriate weather to enjoy them fully on our quick overnight winter visits, but we appreciated having them nonetheless.

The outdoor pool area features a swimming pool with a hot tub and a splash pool with water fountains and a shallow entry for young children.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool view

The main pool is fairly large and partially shaded, with multiple entry points and an island in the middle. While it doesn’t feature a swim-up bar, the bar is just steps away.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool

Right next to the pool is a heated whirlpool, which we saw guests using the night we arrived. It was tempting, but I don’t think I could stand the cold walk after getting out of the hot tub!

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool hot tub

On the other side of the pool walkway was the splash pool, which featured beach entries and water fountains … a great spot for kids who aren’t big enough for the regular pool.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool splash pad

The outdoor pools are open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. No lifeguards are on duty, and children under 12 must have adult supervision.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool rules

Next to the splash pad was a shower, convenient for rinsing off before or after a dip in the pool or for getting sand off after a visit to the beach.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool shower

There are also a few cabanas available for rent. These are at the edge of the splash pool, so they’re great for families supervising kids.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool cabanas

We also found a few loungers near the splash pool.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool splash pad loungers

Behind the splash pool was an army of loungers. While plentiful, these weren’t convenient to the main pool.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool loungers

Beyond the loungers was a tent with lighting and several chairs nearby aimed at the beach view.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool tent and seating

The pools at Hilton Pensacola Beach are nice, but the beach is the headliner . The soft, powdery sand looked like snow, and the water was perfectly clear and blue. This beach is worth a visit, even in the dead of winter, for its picturesque beauty.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities beach water

Beach access is out the lobby’s back door, through the pool walkway, and then onto the boardwalk over the dune.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities beach boardwalk view

The boardwalk features a bench halfway so you can stop and remove your shoes before stepping on the sand.

From the hotel beach, you can see the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier and a long stretch of white sandy beach.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities beach

The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier, featuring fishing, sunset views, food, shopping, and the occasional Blue Angels flyover.

There’s a bit of a hike from the hotel to the water , but walking on the soft sand was not unpleasant. During the summer, I’m sure it’s nice to have a deep beachfront where you can find a spot to set up even when it’s busy. However, beach chair and umbrella rentals are only available from March to October.

The fitness center featured key card access for privacy and security.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities fitness center entrance

I didn’t get many photos of the fitness center, as I wanted to respect the privacy of guests working out, but it seemed well-equipped.

There were a few types of bikes, ranging from Peloton to recumbent.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities fitness center Peloton

There were also a couple of elliptical machines and a few treadmills to round out the cardio machine selection.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities fitness center bike

Though we’ve visited before, I had no idea this indoor pool existed. Maybe next time we will bring swimsuits to enjoy it!

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool indoor pool

I was excited to see bikes available for rent at the front door . There’s not much space to bike around the property, as it’s mostly a pool, beach, and parking lot outdoors, but Pensacola Beach strikes me as a bike-friendly city.

I noticed wide sidewalks along Via De Luna, where the hotel is located, and saw many bicyclists within Gulf Islands National Seashore. I wish we’d had time to take a spin on this trip — another amenity I’ll have to enjoy on a future visit!

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities bike rental

Rates to rent bikes are $8 per hour for a 2-hour minimum, $6 per hour for 4 hours, or $4 per hour for 8 hours. Helmets and locks are available complimentary inside the hotel.

Between the lobby and conference center is a small business center featuring a desk with a few chairs and computers on both sides. I can’t imagine this is a quiet place to work, but you could certainly take care of some quick business here.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities business center

The conference center with expansive meeting rooms is down a hallway across from the entrance and front desk. There is a separate entrance and parking lot for the conference center.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities conference center hallway

The Luna Fine Art Gallery is at the conference center. I didn’t explore enough to figure out what entry to the gallery entailed. Looking at the photos with art lining the hallway, I suspect the conference center hallway is the gallery — and we could have easily taken in some art appreciation on our way to the car had we realized it and walked that way.

Across from the front desk is a gift shop open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily . The hours sign said the gift shop is seasonal, but it was open in January. The selection featured beach gear (including sunglasses, hats, coverups, and bags) and souvenirs such as shirts and jewelry.

Hilton Pensacola Beach usually has a small on-site parking garage available in addition to a surface lot.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities parking

During our stay, the garage and the first set of spaces on the surface lot were under maintenance.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities parking EV

I was instructed to park in the conference center parking nearby. It was packed, but we found a spot. The front desk agent said we could park in the Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn lots on either side if needed.

My booking indicated I would need to pay a $15 nightly parking fee , but the fee was waived for me as a Hilton Diamond member on this stay.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities conference center parking

I booked a room with 2 queen beds and got an upgrade to a room of the same size with a view of the pool and beach . The hotel has spacious rooms, including rooms with bunk beds, which would be nice for a longer stay with kids.

Our room was good for our single-night rest stop, and we loved the balcony with a view.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom view

The bedroom featured 2 queen beds with a connected wooden headboard and frame. The sheets were all white, and each bed had 4 fluffy pillows.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom main view with beds

One of the beds was near the balcony and air conditioner with enough space on the side for a chair.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom side chair

The other bed was close to the bathroom wall.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom Queen bed

Traveling as a family of 5, I was relieved to find out our travel cot fit between the 2 beds. Another option was the space between the balcony and bed, but I thought being next to the air conditioner might be a problem. We also wanted to keep that space clear to enjoy the balcony while the kids slept. It was tight with 2 kids in a bed and a third in the cot, but everyone was comfortable !

A breakfast room service menu on one of the beds caught my eye as we settled in.

A shared nightstand was between the beds, featuring a deep drawer, lamps, an outlet, and an alarm clock.

The outlet featured regular and USB plugs.

The lamps showed signs of wear, with some tears in the shades.

The closet was behind a mirrored door to the right when we walked into the room and across from the bathroom door. A safe, hanging rack, luggage rack, and iron with ironing board were inside this closet.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom closet

Further into the room, past the closet, was the micro kitchen with a shelving unit containing a coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator. We found an outlet available on a shelf that was a great charging station for the kids to use.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom microwave

The refrigerator was small, with spaces for drinks and a small freezer section at the top.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom refrigerator and coffee maker

Across from the beds was a dresser and desk unit with a TV. The drawers in the unit were plenty large and would have been useful had we been staying more than a night. The TV wasn’t turned on before our arrival, which I appreciated. Even though it’s cool to walk into a greeting from the TV at other hotels, it’s a waste of energy.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom dresser with TV and desk

The desk was next to the dresser and TV area, featuring an office chair, mirror, phone, remote, and lamp. A small table and a large floor lamp were at the end of the desk.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom desk chair

The desk had a shallow drawer and an outlet identical to the nightstand outlet with 2 regular plugs and 2 USB plugs.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom desk drawer and outlet

The remote was inside a pouch. I think it was supposed to convey sanitation, but I’m unsure how. There was no indication the remote received any particular cleaning treatment. Or maybe we were supposed to press buttons through the pouch cover.

Between the TV and desk accessories was an ice bucket with 2 covered glasses.

There was a large circular mirror at the desk with a QR code. It took me to an information center for the hotel where I could access details about amenities, food, and more.

The bathroom was fairly unassuming, featuring a single sink and a shower/tub combo. The tile, caulking, and floor looked new.

Hilton Pensacola Beach guestroom bathroom

The shower/tub combo had a curved shower curtain rod and a grip bar. We didn’t book or receive an accessible room, so I think the bar is a standard bathroom feature. The shower head was pretty small, as was the corner shelf, but the water was hot, and overall, it was fine.

Inside the shower were wall-mounted shampoo, conditioner, and body wash amenities by Crabtree & Evelyn.

The single sink had roomy counter space. Below the counter were extra towels, a hair dryer, and extra toilet paper.

A small water-resistant sign at the sink shared details of Hilton’s conservation efforts with suggestions for reusing bath towels and bed linens.

Additional amenities included makeup remover towelettes, bar soap, and a shower cap.

We were upgraded to a room with a balcony and a view . Though the balcony was small, with just 2 chairs and a little round table, it made a big difference in our stay. We had additional in-room dining space on the balcony, and it was fun to sit out there and look at the pool and the ocean.

We arrived at night and noticed the pool area lit up.

The view was stunning in the morning as the sun came out and lit up the pool and beach to reveal blue water.

Food and Beverage

Hilton Pensacola Beach has numerous dining options, including the main restaurant Salt, Bonsai, a beach bar, a lobby coffee shop, and room service breakfast.

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage signs

Salt is the main hotel restaurant and bar, open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. It features breakfast (buffet or à la carte), lunch, and dinner. Salt’s menu leans heavily toward Mediterranean seafood, with Gulf shrimp, squid ink pasta, and octopus tentacle with tzatziki. Standards such as a burger and Caesar salad are available, too.

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage Salt entrance

When considering breakfast options that could get us out the door and on the road to Orlando, an attendant told me about a Salt to-go option . He said the hotel manager frequently allows guests to take to-go boxes from Salt’s breakfast buffet, particularly guests with early morning airport transfers.

Salt’s bar is open until at least 10 p.m.

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage Salt bar

The front desk agent told me I could use my $30 food and beverage credit at any of the hotel’s restaurants or on in-room dining — just not the gift shop or vending machines.

Bonsai is on the hotel’s second floor, has a gulf view, and features elevated Japanese cuisine that mainly centers on sushi. It’s in a space that used to be an executive lounge, but this hotel no longer has a lounge. It has limited hours, open Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

An advertisement in the hotel hallway offered a peek at the Bonsai menu .

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage Bonsai information

Poolside is the Sal de Mar Beach Bar, with patio dining open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The menu features salads, small plates, sandwiches, tacos, and more. The drink menu is as long as the food menu, with daiquiris, margaritas, beer, and signature drinks such as the Shark Bait Bucket.

Hilton Pensacola Beach amenities pool bar

This lobby coffee shop features Starbucks coffee drinks, tea, and an extensive pastry case for grab-and-go dining. I considered using my food and beverage credit here because we probably could have done coffee and breakfast here for 5 around $30. The coffee shop is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage coffee shop

While we had numerous dining options, I went for an in-room breakfast . The menu looked good, and I loved the idea of having scheduled breakfast delivered to our room so that we could eat while getting ready and packing up on our way out the door.

We picked out our meals the night before — thankful to avoid early-morning decisions — along with a desired service time.

The menu has breakfast classics such as waffles, a build-your-own omelette, bacon, toast, eggs, breakfast potatoes, and French toast. We could choose any 30-minute delivery window between 7 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. I chose 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and breakfast arrived promptly just after 8 a.m.

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage room service

My husband got the 3-egg omelette with his choice of ingredients: tomatoes, sausage, and Swiss cheese. We ordered a side of bacon for the kids.

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage room service omelette and side of bacon

I got French toast for our 3 kids , which I correctly guessed would be large enough for them to share with an added side of bacon. With ample French toast, butter balls, and syrup, they each had a couple of slices of French toast and some bacon.

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage room service French toast

Everyone liked their breakfast, but no one enjoyed theirs as much as I did. I can’t resist smoked salmon — enough to overlook that it was the most expensive item on the menu — and I was delighted to open up the room service tray to find a huge salmon breakfast . I was not expecting basically an entire package of smoked salmon with various accouterments, much more than what was promised on the menu.

Hilton Pensacola Beach food and beverage room service salmon bagel

This room service breakfast came to $82.88 , including taxes, fees, service charges, and tip. But my $30 food and beverage credit covered a portion of my final bill, so it was closer to $50 for breakfast when it was all said and done.

We always get great service at this hotel, but it was better than ever on this visit . From the front desk agent who welcomed me and my daughter to the attendant who suggested we could get our breakfast buffet to go, every staff member we encountered seemed concerned with helping us make the most of our short stay.

I booked this hotel expecting a great beach stopover on our road trip, and that’s exactly what we got.

We love the sunny, cool beach break to refresh us while we’re on the road on our way to Orlando from our home in the Houston area, and this hotel is a warm and welcoming spot we enjoy returning to.

My husband and I have decided to plan our next stay at the Hilton Pensacola Beach for a season with warmer weather. Alternatively, we might consider extending our stay by an extra night to fully experience all the amenities and activities that the hotel has to offer before continuing our journey.
