When you’re miles from anywhere, a portable power bank can quickly become your very best friend.

Giving an extra burst of battery life to your cell phone or iPad can keep you amused for longer, or more importantly, ensure that you’re always able to get in touch with the rest of the world.

Size and Weight

Power bank size

Your power bank is designed to be portable, otherwise, what’s the point?! With this in mind, the physical size and weight of it will be major factors in considering which one is right for you.

The charger should be able to fit neatly in the same space as your cell phone; otherwise, you’ll have one in your pocket while carrying the other in your hand — not cool!

Bottom Line: Look for one that will fit neatly in your pocket, purse, or backpack . While power banks should have a sturdy feel about them, they shouldn’t be uncomfortably heavy, so opt for one that’s light enough not to weigh you (or your pockets) down.

Milliamp (mAh)

The power capacity that your power bank kicks out is measured in milliamp-hours or “mAh.” The amount of mAh available will define how much charge you can expect to get out of your power bank.

Common capacity ratings range from 2,000mAh to 20,000mAh and in some cases, even as high as 40,000mAh. To give you a rough idea of how the amount of mAh juice in the bank affects what you can charge and how often, consider the following:

  • An iPhone 7 can be charged approximately 6 times with a 20,000mAh power bank
  • A Samsung Galaxy S8 can be charged approximately 4.5 times with a 20,000mAh power bank
  • An iPad mini can be charged approximately 4 times with a 20,000mAh power bank

Think about what devices you need a power bank for and how long you’ll be away from a power outlet. If you just need something to keep your phone topped up a couple of times a day, a 5,000mAh or 10,000mAh will do the job just fine and it will be physically smaller, too.

Hot Tip: Most airlines will cap power banks at 20,000mAh while some will allow larger. Always check with your airline as to what the maximum capacity requirements are.

Inputs (1A, 2A, or 2.4A)

Power Bank

At some point, your power bank will need charging up to ensure it can provide the backup charge power you need. What you want is a nice, quick recharge speed that means you can get back out there without having to be attached to a wall socket for hours on end.

The input charging speed is dependent on the type of wall charger used. A standard wall charger with a 2A output would recharge the power bank twice as fast as one with only a 1A output. For this to happen, your power bank would need to offer a 2A input.

While some do offer this, many still rely on a 1A input which will take longer to reach a full charge.

Hot Tip: Newer power banks can be charged even more quickly with the addition of a 2.4A input option. Look out for these if you want the fastest charge on the market.

Weighing in at 2.4 pounds and measuring 2.8 x 2.8 x 8.6 inches, it’s too big to fit in your pocket but should fit just fine in a large purse or laptop case. Travelers these days have all types of gear and gadgets that require power: cellphones, headphones, cameras, laptops, and even their toothbrushes. And, when venturing abroad, you’ll often find that not every hotel, airport lounge, or even public mode of transportation accommodates the U.S. plug, which means you likely need an adapter and/or converter for international trips.

Our favorite adapters and converters are compact, work in multiple countries, have several ports including both USB and AC sockets, and, of course, power your essentials without frying them. As avid travelers, we tested an array of products on actual trips across the world and ranked them based on ease of use, effectiveness, and value to bring you the best picks for every scenario. Below, find our favorite easy-to-use adapters and converters for your next international journey.

Best Overall

Epicka universal travel adapter.

  • Ease of Use 5 /5
  • Effectiveness 4 /5

It’s able to charge six devices at once.

This is not a converter, so you shouldn’t use it with high-power appliances like curling irons and hair dryers.

Ready to use in more than 150 countries, this adapter from Epicka can charge six devices at the same time, as it comes with four USB-A ports, 1 USB-C port, and 1 AC socket. It works with all USB-enabled devices including iPhones and Androids, and can charge laptops, cameras, tablets, and power banks, too. It eliminates the need to purchase individual adapters for each trip, which makes it a great money-saving travel product . The adapter also has a built-in, double 8A fuse and safety shutters that keep children from trying to plug other items into the socket. The adapter comes in four different colors, and has a 1-year limited warranty.

We love that it’s small and easy to pack, plus it’s simple to switch over to different prongs from country to country. The multiple USB ports are great for charging everything at once, and the adapter is super lightweight, so it isn’t adding much weight to your suitcase or carry-on either. We did find that the adapter was hard to fit in tight spots or use with older outlet styles in the UK and Hong Kong, but this didn’t happen often.

The Details: 2.8 x 1.97 x 2.05 inches | 5.1 ounces | No converter | 6 ports | 1 AC, 4 USB-A, 1 USB-C | 240 volts

Best for Apple Users

Apple travel adapter kit.

  • Effectiveness 5 /5

It’s exclusively for Apple products so you can trust it with those devices.

It only works with Apple's block-type power adapters.

This kit made by Apple, for Apple products, includes seven AC plugs that work for iPhones, iPods, iPads, and Mac laptops in North America, Japan, China, the UK, Europe, Korea, Australia, Hong Kong, and Brazil. Each one lists the regions the plug is compatible with, making it easy to grab what you need quickly. However, you will need Apple's power adapter brick to serve as a base; these tips work with Apple’s USB-C power adapters, MagSafe and MagSafe 2 power adapters, and 10-watt and 12-watt USB power adapters that come with devices (or can be purchased separately in a range of wattages including 12 watts , 35 watts, and 67 watts ).

We love this set because it’s an Apple-certified product, so we know our devices are safe. The adapters are also built to last, as one of our testers used the adapters for 10 years before having to replace some of them. The only thing we wish they added onto this set is a carrying case to hold all the pieces for traveling.

The Details: 5.3 x 5.3 x 1.9 inches | 11.2 ounces | No converter | 1 port | 100-240 volts (10W, 12W, 30W, and 35W)

Most Compact

Ceptics travel adapter plug for south africa & botswana.

It comes with USB and AC outlet charging abilities in a compact plug.

USB ports are on the bottom, instead of the top of the adapter.

If you’re traveling through South Africa, Botswana, or Namibia, this compact adapter will allow you to charge up to three devices at once. The AC outlet allows you to plug your U.S. device into a Type M socket for South Africa, allowing you to charge up for safari adventures and more.  It works with cell phones, laptops, smart watches, tablets, and more, and we especially like that it has the ability for two- and three-prong AC input, as well as USB ports for added versatility. The style of adapter is a block shape, so you can tuck it into your backpack, purse, or carry-on without compromising on much space, and you can also buy similar adapters for Europe , India, Germany, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Brazil, and more.

The Details: 1 x 1 x 1 inches | 2.5 ounces | No Converter | 3 ports | 2 USB-A , 1 AC | 250 volts

Best for Families

Bestek travel adapter and voltage converter.

  • Value 4.5 /5

You can power seven devices at one time.

It’s bulkier than a lot of other adapters.

With three AC outlets and four USB ports, you can charge up to seven devices at once on this charger, making it easy for the whole family to charge their phones, laptops, tables, and camera batteries. Three plug adapters are also included and work in more than 150 countries, meaning you can travel far and wide and, most likely, have the right adapter for what you need. We also love that this one is a converter, too, converting 220 volts to 110 volts for U.S. electronics but it’s still not recommended to use this device to power your hair dryer, curling iron, or straightener.

The adapter comes with overcurrent, overload, overheat, and short-circuit protections. We tested the adapter by charging a phone, battery pack, Apple watch, and Kindle all at once and found that all devices were nicely charged overnight with no issues.

The Details: 7.4 x 6.8 x 1.8 inches | 1.15 pounds | Converter | 3 AC, 4 USB-A | 110-220 volts

Best Multipack

Ceptics european travel plug adapter.

  • Ease of Use 3 /5

It’s easy to use.

You'll need to use a separate plug for each item you're charging.

For a super affordable multipack for one destination, this one from Ceptics is a great choice, as it comes with three identical Type C adapters that will work across Europe, the Middle East, and South America. It accepts North American two- and three-prong plugs, and has a simple straightforward design. It’s worth noting though that this set won’t work in England, Ireland, or Scotland, but there are other three packs available that will work in those countries, plus India, China, Hong Kong, Australia, and more.

The Details: 3 x 2 x 1 inches | 3.2 ounces | No Converter | 3 AC outlets | 100-240 volts

Best for Europe

Jarvania european travel plug adapter.

It works in both the EU and the UK.

It’s a bit bulky as the UK adapter is separate.

American travelers to Europe will most likely need an adapter that can handle numerous countries, and this one from Jarvania is great because it can be used with EU and UK outlets. It’s compatible with Type C (which also fits into Type E, F, H, J, K, L, and N outlets) to work in Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, Spain, and France and more. It also comes with a separate Type G plug adapter that will also work in the UK, so you’re getting an extra adapter, too. The main adapter has three ports (one AC, two USB), so you can charge up to three devices at once — a perk for the modern traveler carrying a phone, laptop, camera, and more.

The Details: 2.7 x 2.1 x 2.2 inches | 3.8 ounces | No Converter | 3 ports | 1 AC, 2 USB-A | 110-250 volts

Other Travel Adapters We Liked

Two adapters we tested couldn’t quite earn a spot on our list but had standout features that may meet the needs of some travelers.

Tessan Type G Adapter : This adapter with two AC outlets plus two USB ports works in countries such as Scotland, Ireland, the UK, Hong Kong, UAE, Singapore, and various African countries. However, we found the AC outlets are too close together on the adapter to always be useful.

Tessan Type E F Adapter : With five total ports (USB and AC) that work in numerous countries, this is a great adapter, but we think the two pack is a bit much, as one adapter already has five ports, meaning lots of travelers wouldn’t need a second adapter. This adapter is also wider than other adapters so it can take up more unnecessary space.

The T+L team tested 12 different adapters and converters in various countries across the world. We noted what countries we were in while using the adapters or converters, and how easy it was to use each one. We also ranked them based on effectiveness, meaning how well they charged our devices, and value in terms of price versus performance.

Tips for Buying Adapters and Converters

Research your destination.

Before leaving on your trip, be sure to check out what types of outlets are used in the countries you’re visiting, and buy adapters and converters accordingly. The last thing you’ll want is to accidentally fry your device while abroad. Some hotels provide USB ports inside hotel rooms, but it’s best to make sure they’re available before arriving empty-handed.

Consider a kit

If you’re visiting numerous countries and are in a rush, it’s sometimes easier to simply buy a kit with several adapters for multiple different destinations, which can save you money instead of buying numerous adapters. Lots of kits are small enough to tuck away in your bag or carry-on, so just be sure that you take along the ones you need.

Read the fine print

Always be sure to read the instructions that come with your adapter or converter, and be sure to pay attention to the power details. You may think a converter is safe for your styling tools or appliances when it's actually not, and you could fry your device, or blow a fuse, if the adapter doesn’t convert voltage.

An adapter is used when you need to plug a specific type of prong into a different socket. It allows you to plug your U.S.-style prong into an outlet in another country that uses a different type of plug. A converter is different in that it changes the voltage of an outlet to match the voltage of the item being plugged in. Some countries use 110/120 volts, while others use 220/240 volts. If you don’t use a converter, you could ruin your device, or even risk a fire.

If your destination has a different prong type than your outlets at home, then you’ll need an adapter. But if the voltage is different in the place you’re traveling than it is at home, you’ll need a converter to convert that voltage. Some products have dual voltage, which means the device can handle voltages from all over the world.

Most of Europe uses Type C plugs, which also fit into Type E, F, H, J, K, L, and N sockets that may replace Type C in places such as Denmark, Switzerland, and Italy. (England and the rest of the U.K. uses Type G.) Always double check exactly which one you’ll need before your departure.

Why Trust Travel + Leisure

For this article, the T+L team tested and reviewed numerous adapters and converters to find the best of the best for countries across the world. Freelance writer and world traveler Amanda Ogle further researched travel adapters to add additional insights to this list.

The 6 Best Portable Power Bank Chargers For Travel

Before leaving for a trip, you’ll want to have at least one of these portable chargers in your luggage. These are the 6 best choices.

best travel adapter powerbank

Travel is unpredictable and lots of things can go wrong — and portable chargers may be more important than you think right now.

Your flight can be delayed or canceled , you can get on the wrong bus, lose your passport , find yourself in an unsafe situation , and so on. While travel mishaps can’t always be avoided they can be mitigated with proper preparation.

Preparation can make the difference between a smooth and enjoyable travel experience and a disastrous one . One thing you’ll certainly want to anticipate ahead of time is a dead device battery. When traveling to a new destination, our mobile devices often function as navigation tools, translation assists, and safety support. It’s essential that our cell phones and other devices are up and running at all times while traveling.

So before boarding that plane make sure you have the essentials in your luggage. One tech gadget you’ll not want to forget is a portable power bank charger.

What to Look for in a Power Bank Charger

Key considerations for a good portable charger are as follows:

  • Battery capacity: One of the most important things to look for is the battery capacity of the charger. Measured in milliamp hours (mAh), choosing a charger with the best power capacity will come down to several factors including which devices you plan to charge and the charging method.
  • Size and weight: If you’re looking for a charger with travel in mind, you’ll most likely want something small and lightweight that takes up little space in your luggage and is comfortable to carry around. Just keep in mind that a smaller charger might mean less power capacity.
  • Charging speed: How quickly a charger can power your phone and other devices will also be an essential consideration. In addition to how long it’ll take to charge your device, you should also factor how long it takes to charge the battery pack itself. Depending on the charger and method of charging, speed time will vary.

Here are some of the top portable power bank chargers to consider for your next travel venture.

Design and safety pick: Moshi IonGo Duo Portable Battery

This compact power bank phone charger promises fast charging up to 2x faster than standard chargers. Its advanced technology makes juicing your mobile device easier to manage with a charge that can hold for up to 30 months. It’s also stylish, encased in protective vegan leather that helps safeguard your device from scratches and wear and tear.

Eco-friendly pick: Nimble Champ 10K Portable Charger

The Nimble Champ 10K portable charger can charge two devices simultaneously and is incredibly lightweight and convenient for travel. It’s also environmentally friendly. Instead of using lithium, cobalt, and other non-eco-conscious metals, the Nimble uses bioplastics and plastic-free minimal packaging. Not only is it compatible with Apple, Android, and Samsung smartphones, but you can also use it with your tablets, and laptops.

Fast-speed portable chargers pick: Pxwaxpy Portable Charger Power Bank

This high-capacity power bank charger can charge up to 3 devices at the same time at fast speeds. Its Quick Charge 4 technology can bring your smartphone, laptop, and tablet from 0% to 100% battery life in just a few minutes. And the power bank charger itself can recharge in just a few hours. It also features an LED display that tells you how much battery life you have left.

Convenience pick: Anker PowerCore+ Mini

The Anker PowerCore+ Mini is shaped like a tube of lipstick, making it a handy option for those with limited space on their person. Easily slide it into a purse/bag/pocket or attach it to a keychain for a smooth on-the-go charging experience. And what’s also nice about this ultra-compact charger is that it contains enough power to charge your smartphone from 0 to 80%, so you’re not forced to sacrifice performance for convenience.

Versatility pick: ROMOSS 30000mAh Power Bank Sense 8+

This portable power bank charger has a variety of features that the average consumer would find appealing. The Romoss Sense 8+ has a large battery capacity, various USB inputs, and fast power charging capabilities. With a micro USB input, a lightning port, two standard USB ports, and a two-way USB-C input, you can power up just about any device without purchasing additional products. You will need a charging cable for the power bank as it doesn’t come with one, but you will be able to charge it with any USB cord compatible with the inputs.

Best portable chargers pick: Anker PowerCore 13000

When it comes to an all-in-one portable power bank charger, look no further than the Anker PowerCore 13000. This charger offers a light and compact design, high-speed charging, an ultra-high charging capacity, multiple ports, LED alerts, and more. Anker’s leading technology promises consumers a durable, well-made product that even resists smudging. At approximately the size of a wallet, the Anker PowerCore 13000 is an easy product to take with you anywhere you go.

The best portable chargers and power banks in 2024

Here are the best portable chargers to keep your devices juiced up while you're on the go

  • Best overall
  • Best for USB-C
  • Best lightweight
  • Best compact
  • How to choose
  • How we test

1. The list in brief 2. Best overall 3. Best Anker 4. Best for USB-C 5. Best lightweight 6. Best compact 7. How to choose 8. How we test

The best portable chargers keep your electronics powered while you're out and about. These handy peripherals can charge various devices, including the best phones , the best tablets , the best Kindles and even the best laptops . Because you'll inevitably find yourself with low battery life when outdoors, you'll need a reliable portable charger to keep your electronics going. Not having one could prove to be extremely inconvenient.

We've done a battery (pun intended) of tests on some of the most highly-rated portable chargers on the market. To that end, we've pulled from both big brands and popular competitors. Our testing involves seeing how fast devices charge and how many full phone chargers each power bank stores. While these specific portable chargers regularly appear on bestseller lists, they're all different in several important ways.

We've got these best portable chargers ranked in order of what we would buy, with shoutouts for the best portable charger, our favorite compact charger, and the best portable charger for USB-C.

We're going to update this page with a batch of new chargers soon.

Tony is a computing writer at Tom’s Guide covering laptops, tablets, Windows, and iPadOS. During his off-hours, Tony enjoys reading comic books, playing video games, reading speculative fiction novels, and spending too much time on Twitter. His work has appeared in publications such as Laptop Mag, PC Mag, and various independent gaming sites.

The quick list

Here's a quick overview of the best portable chargers you can buy right now based on our testing and reviews.

The best portable charger overall

The INIU 10000mAh is one of the best portable chargers we've tested. Not only did its charging times and speeds sit near the top of the chart but it's got 2 USB-A output ports to the Anker PowerCore Slim 10000's single USB-A charging port.

Read more below

The best Anker portable charger

The Anker PowerCore Slim 10000 is heavier than the INIU 10000 but it would've taken the top slot if it had a second USB-A port. Its charging times were so close to the INIU brick and its overall time to fill an iPhone 12 was 4 minutes shorter, at 1 hour and 56 minutes.

The best portable charger for USB-C

While INIU's 20-watt brick is a bit heavy (the second heaviest on this list), its dual-function USB-C port makes it a clear favorite for one of the best portable chargers for those charging with the reversible port. This way, you can both charge it and charge other devices with the same USB-C cables.

The best lightweight portable charger

Anker's 20,000 mAh brick is lighter than comparable bricks but its charging scores are consistently behind by 3 to 4%. Its other win is in its USB-C input for faster charging, but since it only has USB-A output, you're going to be refueling at a lower rate. It also has one fewer USB-A port than competitors.

The best compact portable charger

The PowerCore 5000 hits 19% after 15 minutes, which is 7% above the Miady power banks. There's nothing wrong with this charger, but it's not stellar either. If you got it as a present, you might hold onto it and get a ton of use out of it. If it goes on sale for a deep discount, we wouldn't be against considering it. But at the end of the day, it's low on our list for a reason.

The best portable chargers you can buy today

Why you can trust Tom's Guide Our writers and editors spend hours analyzing and reviewing products, services, and apps to help find what's best for you. Find out more about how we test, analyze, and rate.

1. INIU 10000mAh Portable Charger

Specifications, reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

A shocking upset for the top slot, Anker (the typical standard-bearer) loses to INIU's 10000 mAh charger. This brick is one of the best portable chargers. Not only did its charging times and speeds sit near the top of the chart but it's got 2 USB-A output ports to the Anker PowerCore Slim 10000's single USB-A charging port. And since that second port can be the difference between powering a secondary device while you charge your phone (or helping a friend out when they need it), we're giving the INIU the overall nod.

For a brand we're not that familiar with, this INIU charger stood up in 15-minute and 1-hour timed charging (at 22%, 78%), with times that were within 1-2 percentage points ahead of the PowerCore Slim's times. It only failed to beat the Anker to fill a complete phone once, putting up a 2-hour time, four minutes behind the Anker. Both chargers refilled about 2.2-2.25 iPhone 12s, so it's practically a tie. INIU also has a longer warranty: its 3-year plan is twice as long as Anker's 18-month window.

This charger has been reviewed by over 9,000 customers on Amazon and has been rated 4.7 out of 5 stars. A reviewer who gave it 5 stars said:

"I love this portable charger! I didn’t think it would be a good idea, because normally your portable chargers die within the first charge it does. I have charged my phone over 4 times and haven’t had to charge it! That is including just leaving it in my bag for weeks until I need it again. It will not disappoint! I love it!"

2. Anker PowerCore Slim 10000

Our number 2 pick (still one of the best portable chargers) is the Anker PowerCore Slim 10000, which is a bit heavier than the INIU 10000 pack (7.3 ounces to 6.9 ounces). But it would have taken the top slot had it had that second USB-A output port. That's because its charging times were so close to the INIU brick (21% in 15 minutes, 76% in an hour) and its overall time to fill an iPhone 12 was 4 minutes shorter, at 1 hour and 56 minutes.

But it's so close to the INIU that we have to keep it as the #2-ranked portable charger. These bricks are so close, practically within margins of error in testing. If you only need to charge one device at a time, and the sale pricing makes the Slim 10000 that much cheaper than the INIU, go for it.

This product has been reviewed by nearly 50,000 customers on Amazon and has been rated 4.6 out of 5 stars. A reviewer who rated it 5 stars said:

"I like the solid and sleek construction. Fits easily in my pocket. Most importantly it works! Fast charging, enough capacity to charge my phone multiple times over multiple days, and withstands plenty of me dropping it and yanking the cord out awkwardly and accidentally."

3. INIU 20W 20000 mAh power bank

USB-C is no longer the port of the future, it's the port of the day. And while INIU's 20-watt brick is a bit heavy (the second heaviest on this list), its dual-function USB-C port makes it a clear favorite for one of the best portable chargers for those charging with the reversible port. This way, you can both charge it and charge other devices with the same USB-C cables, and you've also got two other USB-A ports for recharging other devices.

On top of that, it turned in the best performance in the 1-hour charging window, bringing our dead iPhone 12 to 81% of its charge. And its 1-hour and 57-minute time to bring that iPhone to a full charge is the second-best of the pack, only off by a minute from the PowerCore Slim 10000. Its high capacity of 20000 mAh also meant it refueled an iPhone more than most of these chargers, with 4.78 iPhone 12 refills.

This product has been reviewed by nearly 4,500 customers on Amazon and received 4.6 out of 5 stars. A reviewer who rated it 5 stars said: "For 5 days on vacation I used this to charge my phone and GoPro, and the battery still had 44% of its life!"

4. Anker PowerCore Essential 20000mAh

Anker's 20,000 mAh brick is lighter than comparable bricks by a few ounces, but its charging scores are consistently behind by 3 to 4%. Its other win is seen in its USB-C input for faster charging of the brick, but since it only has USB-A output, you're going to be refueling at a lower rate than you might like. It also has one fewer USB-A output than competitors.

All that said, though, we could see an individual finding this to be the right charger for their needs. Anyone who is looking to primarily charge their own phone, and wants a high-capacity pack so they need to refuel less frequently will appreciate the more-portable weight. All you need is a pocket big enough to hold it, and you'll have juice for days.

This product has been reviewed by over 50,000 customers on Amazon and received 4.8 out of 5 stars. "The product Anker is amazing and I highly recommend it," said a reviewer who rated it 5 stars.

5. Anker PowerCore 5000

Compared to the higher-rated 5,000 mAh charger on our list (the Poweradd Slim 2) Anker PowerCore 5000 lags behind on speeds. It only refueled 62% of the iPhone 12 in the first hour of charging, which is the second-lowest score on the list.

The best aspect of the PowerCore 5000 is that it hit 19% after 15 minutes, which is 7% above the Miady power banks. There's nothing particularly wrong with this charger, but nothing impressive either. If you got it as a present, you might hold onto it and get a ton of use out of it. If it goes on sale for a deep discount, we wouldn't be against considering it. But at the end of the day, it's low on our list for a reason.

Anker PowerCore 5000 has been reviewed by over 29,000 customers on Amazon and received 4.6 out of 5 stars. "Because of this product’s portability, you can charge your phone anywhere without having to wait around," said a reviewer who rated it 5 stars.

How to choose the best portable charger

Finding the right charger capacity: You'll often see a four to five-digit number, with the letters mAh following it, and that's your first big indicator of how much this charger is right for you. If you're constantly refueling your phone and other gadgets, go for at least 10,000mAh. For each extra device you charge, add at least 5,000 to the mAh rating you're looking for. Just need to prevent your device from hitting 0 on late nights out? You'll be good with something in the under 5,000 mAh rating, provided you remember to charge it often.

Be a ports authority: If you hold onto your devices forever, and don't already know what a USB-C port is, you can probably just get whatever fits your price. But if you're the kind who wants faster charging, look for a brick that has PD in its name. The best portable chargers, at least for my money, charge devices the fastest and use the Power Delivery (PD) standard. Also, their USB-C ports mean you can refuel these power banks with the same cords used to charge modern laptops.

How we test the best portable chargers

You want a charger that was put through the rigors of refueling, so we did just that. With timers in hand, we kept draining an iPhone 12 and then timed how much time it took for each power bank to refuel those phones. Along the way, we checked out how much of said iPhone 12 (the same one) were refueled after 15 and 60 minutes. We kept that iPhone at 100% brightness the whole time.

Our ranking also factored in the portability and designs of each model, as especially small and pocket-friendly chargers can't physically store as many mAh of battery power as their larger brethren. Similarly, the smaller a charger is, the less likely it has more than two ports (one for gaining a charge, the other for giving power).

  • Arctic Strix This article was either done by a bad Ai, written within 5min by someone who searched for the most bought battery banks on Amazon, or reused from several years ago. The "best portable charger" is not a 10,000mAh USB-A 15W charger for $20, that's just one of the most purchased on Amazon. One of the best portable power banks is going to be the Anker 737 or the Ugreen 145w. They both feature two type C outputs and one type A output, the Anker 737 being able to output up to 140W compared to Ugreen maxing at 100W. Anker has a 24000mAh battery and PD3.1 complaint and Ugreen is 25000mAh with PD3.0; they both are compatible with all charging standards. These might be a bit overkill for the general user, but they are among the best, if not the best portable power banks. Reply

Premkare International Universal All in One Travel Adapter

Universal Travel Adapter with Two Type C and One USB Ports

Hair tools such as blow dryers, wands, curling irons, and straighteners use up a large amount of electricity so it’s particularly important that they are used with the correct voltage.

For example, in the US we use 110-120V whereas in Europe they use 220-240V. If we plug our electronics into each other’s outlets, they can blow a fuse and stop working. In some cases, they can even fry your hair. The video below can also shed light on adapters, converters, and the right voltage.

Watch the video above or read this post to learn about the differences between travel adapters, converters, and voltage!

Thanks for the suggestion, this will be my must have power bank for camping. I should order this now for my next camping trip!

Heidi Nelson

This was just the article for me! Have been in the market for a portable charger that will actually work and won’t require a Sherpa to carry it! Have ordered one as a gift and one to keep. Thanks for doing the research and should I run out of battery on my next adventure, it will be my own darn fault!

Sarra Mossoff

Thanks TFG! This article helped me pick a new, lighter weight charger to carry during my 3 week Italy trip this last summer. It came in handy so many days! Just the right size to fully recharge my phone once, which covered me for all the navigating and picture taking. And I didn’t have to carry around my giant, heavy brick. It was so great to have a functional, light weight battery!

Bernadette Glendon

The iwalk portable charger is a gamechanger for me. Since it attached directly to the phone, it eliminates the need to carry a cord – which I always seem to forget when I’m out sightseeing for the whole day. This battery pack has given me at least two full charges before needing to be recharged. Love it!

Elaine Duncan

I just preordered the new iPhone 15, wondering which would be the best portable charger for me?

The 11 Best Travel Adapters, According to Frequent International Travelers

best travel adapter powerbank

Let’s face it: Though you may dream of going off the grid for your next international trip, traveling without your phone , camera , or tablet isn’t particularly practical. And if you bring them, it’s inevitable that you’ll need to plug in and charge them at some point.

That’s why a trusty travel adapter is such an essential part of your packing list. While there are many options that can fit American plugs into international outlets, the right adapter should also fit your itinerary and the tech you’re bringing along. In addition to my own testing, I’ve tapped the expertise of world-touring travelers, creators, and influencers for whom staying powered up is as essential to their journeys as a passport. Whether you want to top up your phone battery in a Parisian café or need to charge seven devices from a single outlet, let their wisdom guide you to the adapter that most adeptly satisfies your travel needs.

A note: Unless explicitly mentioned here, it’s worth observing that typical travel adapters don’t convert power voltage, which can vary between countries. Though most smartphones and tablets are dual-voltage these days, you’ll want to double-check the specifications of your devices before leaving on your trip — especially if you’re bringing something like an electric shaver or a hair dryer.

Best “just the plug” travel adapters

Unidapt 4 Pack European Travel Plug Adapter

“These are dirt cheap and fit in the palm of your hand,” says Going.com founder Scott Keyes of this low-cost, no-frills option fit for European (but not U.K.) travel. Small enough for even the tiniest, trickiest outlets, Keyes also lauds the flexibility that comes with this four-pack of adapters.

You both “don’t have to take turns charging your electronics” and don’t have to charge all of them in the same outlet, as you would with a bulkier (and pricier) all-in-one alternative. Plus, there’s something to be said for not letting a single missing adapter ruin your trip: “If I lose one, which, let’s be honest, happens not infrequently on the road, they’re cheap and easy to replace,” Keyes says.

Road Warrior Universal Travel Plug Adapter

For short trips that only involve a laptop and a phone, Arthur Wei, the well-traveled co-founder of Brooklyn Camper Vans , turns to this clever adapter. Truly living up to its “universal” billing, its ingenious design consists of interlocking pieces which snap into place to fit into European, British, Indian, Brazilian, and American outlets. Wei loves that Road Warrior’s adapter “packs light” and notes that its $12 price point means that your trip isn’t ruined if it goes missing.

Best travel adapters with built-in USB ports

Epicka TA-105C Universal Travel Adapter

I recently tested Epicka’s travel adapter on a two-week excursion around Portugal, and loved its ability to connect as many as six devices to power from a single outlet. It boasts three USB-C ports (plus two USB-A ports), all of which make it easy to charge smartphones, tablets, and other tech without even plugging a power block into the adapter itself.

If I have one complaint, it’s that it took a little extra finesse to fit it into the occasional oddly-angled European outlet. But double-checking that it’s plugged in properly is a small price to pay for this adapter’s charging capabilities. Overall, Epicka’s carry-on-friendly adapter offered solid value and performance, whether I needed to top up my camera battery or quickly charge my iPhone, iPad, and Nintendo Switch Lite while waiting for a transatlantic flight home.

Ceptics World Travel Adapter Kit

When it comes to charging everything from her AirPods to her drone, Wendy Hu , photographer, creative director, and video host for Travel+Leisure, relies on this versatile option from Ceptics. Featuring two U.S. outlets, 2 USB-A slots ( another version features an additional two USB-C slots), and six interchangeable international adapters, Hu describes it as “sturdy and well-made” despite weighing in at just five ounces.

In addition to built-in surge protection to guard against voltage spikes and an attached micro USB cable (handy for charging smaller devices like Bluetooth headphones), it also offers quick-charging support for compatible devices — making it ideal for use in that brief window between daytime excursions and dinner plans, or during a brief pit stop in a café.

MOMAX Universal Travel Adapter

“For an adapter to work for me, it needs to be an all-in-one universal adapter with an AC outlet, USB-C, and USB-A outlets” says former Googler and current travel-content creator Catarina Mello , who recommends this one by Momax. “It also needs to have an overload dual fuse for safety and support for up to 2500 watts,” She says that’s a must in order to use devices like hair dryers, curlers, and steamers. “If your adapter can’t handle a larger surge current, it’ll get damaged or burn out.”

In addition to handling high-powered items, this universal adapter has space to power up to six devices from a single outlet across more than 150 countries. Three of those slots are quick charging USB-C ports, one of which pumps out 65 watts, delivering enough power to charge a laptop without bringing a separate adapter.

JOOMFEEN Worldwide All in One Universal Power Wall Charger

Matthew Kepnes, founder of Nomadic Matt and author of How to Travel the World on $50 a Day , is loyal to Joomfeen’s efficient universal adapter, which nestles input plugs for European, U.K., U.S., and Australian outlets into a single, streamlined adapter weighing just over three ounces. With two USB-A ports, it maxes out on charging three devices at a time, making it a little less versatile than other, more powerful options. But if you’re looking for an adapter that can get the job done without eating into your travel fund, this option is hard to beat.

Best travel adapters with multiple AC outlets

BESTEK Universal Travel Adapter

For travelers who prioritize power over portability (or those who need an adapter that can safely convert voltage), multiple experts recommend Bestek’s Universal Travel Adapter, including former NFL player and current travel creator Jeremy Cash , who loves its “all-in-one design.” With a three-AC-outlet power strip and four USB-A ports, it includes support for charging up to seven devices at once “no matter what country I’m in,” he says.

In addition to that plethora of charging ports, travel blogger and mom Kiersten Rich lauds its ability to convert voltage, which she says is “better for protecting expensive electronics” and “critical” for any hair tools you’re bringing along for the trip.

With a profile of 7.8-by-6.5 inches and a weight of one pound, it’s far from the most minimalist option, but the inclusion of a five-foot detachable power cable means that this adapter can transform a single hard-to-reach outlet into a convenient charging station. That’s why director, producer, and photographer Kathryn Sheldon has relied on it through years of overseas trips with cameras in tow. She says, “I don’t bring it if I’m trying to be super lightweight and carry-on only, but otherwise it’s an amazing tool.”

MOGICS Bagel Universal Power Strip

On a recent trip to Thailand, Pack Hacker editor Lauren Maternowski says her team loved the utility of this mighty adapter from Mogics, which can charge seven devices simultaneously thanks to a unique circular power strip ringing the outlet adapter. It also makes use of a retractable extension cable that she says makes it “handy if your accommodations are short on accessible plugs.”

Maternowski says that you can also remove the titular bagel and leave it behind if packing space is at a premium: “The adapter itself is one of the smallest we’ve seen, so it won’t take up much room in your bag.”

FOVAL European Travel Plug Adapter

If you aren’t worried about converting voltage but still find that you’re “always charging a million things,” travel blogger Rich recommends this 110-volt option from Foval for use with European outlets. Similar to Bestek’s adapter, it offers three AC outlets, four USB-A ports, and an extension cord. But it has the added advantage of a USB-C port — not to mention a slimmer, lighter design that can plug directly into a wall socket while taking up about half as much space in your luggage.

Best travel adapter accessories

ProCase Hard Travel Electronic Organizer Case

Boasting a full complement of mesh and zippered pockets plus velcro cord holders, former NFL player Cash argues that this ProCase product “is essential for anyone who carries a ton of cords when they travel.” But it’s not just about cables: With a padded bottom compartment featuring removable dividers, its water-resistant design can safely store everything from external hard drives and MacBook chargers to AirPods and SD cards. As the pro athlete turned seasoned traveler puts it: “Trust me when I say you need this case.”

Puxnoin Multi Charging Cable

Former Googler Mello doesn’t travel without this five-foot, triple-pronged braid that functions as a USB-A to USB-C, lightning, and micro-USB cable. Though she usually treats these cables as her backup option, they’re viable as a primary cable if you’re looking to minimize clutter, and Mello admits they’ve “come in handy more times than I can count.” In welcome news for those who regularly misplace cables, these are sold in packs of three.

Portable devices have a Murphy’s law–like ability to run out of power at the least convenient moment: as you step on the bus, right in the middle of an important meeting, or just as you get comfortable on the couch and press Play. But if you keep a battery-powered portable charger handy, all those situations are a thing of the past.

There are hundreds of portable battery packs, and picking one can be confusing. To help, we've spent years working our way through all of them. This obsession started when Scott Gilbertson lived off-grid in a vintage RV , powered primarily by solar panels. But even if you're not living in an off-grid solar setup, good power banks will come in handy. These are our favorites. Be sure to check out our Best MagSafe Power Banks guide for Apple-specific portable chargers, and our Best Portable Power Stations guide if you need more power.

Updated February 2024: We added a power bank from Anker and updated prices.

What to Consider

There are a few things worth thinking about when you’re shopping for a portable charger.

Capacity : The capacity of a power bank is measured in milliampere-hours (mAh), but this can be a little misleading because the amount of power you get out depends on the cable you use , the device you are charging, and the charging method (Qi wireless charging is less efficient). You will never get the maximum capacity. We try to provide an estimate of what you’ll get in terms of charges for devices.

Charging speeds and standards : The charging rate for devices like smartphones is measured in watts (W), but most power banks list the voltage (V) and the amperage (A). Thankfully, you can calculate the wattage yourself simply by multiplying the voltage and amperage. Unfortunately, getting that maximum rate also depends on your device, the standards it supports, and the charging cable you use. Many smartphones, including Apple’s iPhones , support the Power Delivery (PD) standard, meaning you can use higher-power power banks to recharge the device with no issues. A few phones, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S range, support a supplementary PD protocol called PPS (Programmable Power Standard) that goes up to 45 W. Many phones also support Qualcomm’s proprietary Quick Charge (QC) standard. There are also other proprietary fast-charging standards, but you won’t generally find power banks that support them unless they come from the smartphone manufacturer.

Pass-through : If you want to charge your power bank and use it to charge another device simultaneously, it will need pass-through support. The Nimble, GoalZero, Biolite, Mophie, Zendure, and Shargeek portable chargers listed support pass-through charging. Anker discontinued support for pass-through because it found that differences between the output of the wall charger and the input of the device charging can cause the power bank to cycle on and off rapidly and shorten its lifespan. Monoprice does not support pass-through charging, either. We would advise caution when using pass-through, as it can also cause portable chargers to heat up.

Travel : It’s safe to travel with a power bank, but there are two restrictions to keep in mind when you board a flight: You must have the portable charger in your carry-on luggage (it cannot be checked in), and it must not exceed 100 Wh (watt-hours). If your power bank has a larger capacity than 27,000 mAh, you should check with the airline. Below that should not be a problem.

Best Overall

The Nimble Champ topped this list for years, and now its successor is taking over by combining everything that made the original so good and bringing some welcome improvements. At 6.2 ounces, it's one of the lightest on the market. It's smaller than a deck of cards and can deliver 20 watts to charge two devices at once via a USB-C port on either end. While Scott used the original for years, the new version has only just landed, but so far, so good. It feels durable, comes in a snazzy new range of speckled color finishes, and has a bright lanyard loop that makes for easy carrying and helps you pick it out of your backpack. The Pro version is bigger but doubles the capacity (to 20,000 mAh) and has a similar design with two USB-C ports that go up to 65 watts. There's also a smaller version with a 5,200 mAh capacity that tops out at 15 watts.

The other reason we like Nimble best is because of its environmental efforts . Batteries are not environmentally benign. They use lithium, cobalt, and other rare metals whose supply chains are environmentally and socially questionable at best. But Nimble's use of bioplastics and plastic-free minimal packaging at least reduces the environmental impact where it can be reduced. This new version uses 90 percent recycled plastic (up 25 from the original) and comes in smaller plastic-free packaging. Nimble includes a 3.3-foot USB-C to USB-C cable in the box.

Two USB-C ports (20W). Can charge most smartphones two or three times (10,000 mAh).

The Upgrade Pick

For folks who don’t mind paying for quality, the Anker 737 is a versatile and reliable beast with a whopping 24,000-mAh capacity. With Power Delivery 3.1 support, this power bank can send or receive up to 140 watts to charge phones, tablets, and even laptops. You can charge it from zero to full within an hour. It’s relatively compact for its capacity, but it weighs almost 1.4 pounds. Tap the circular power button on the side once, and the snazzy digital display shows the remaining battery percentage; tap it again, and you get stats including the temperature, total output, cycles, and more. The screen also displays watts in or out when you plug something in and a remaining time estimate based on the current rate. It fast-charged everything I tested it with, and you can charge three devices at once without a problem.

Two USB-C ports (140W) and one USB-A (18W). Can charge most phones at least four times (24,000 mAh).

Best Budget Portable Charger

You don’t have to spend big to get a high capacity power bank, and this offering from Monoprice proves it. This power bank is impressively versatile with five ports, and it offers QC 3.0, PD 3.0, and wireless charging support. Results are mixed, but it fast-charged most phones I tested. Wireless charging is handy when you don’t have a cable, but this is not a MagSafe charger, and the total amount of power you get is limited because it’s far less efficient than wired charging. Still, these are minor quibbles considering the low price. Tap the power button, and you can see how much juice is left in the bank. It comes with a short USB-C to USB-A cable.

One USB-C port (20W), three USB-A (12W, 12W, and 22.5W), and one Micro-USB (18W). Qi wireless charging (up to 15W). Can charge most phones three or four times (20,000 mAh).

Parker Hall

Anker Nano Power Bank

Best for Phones

If you want a compact charger in a fun color that simply slots into the bottom of your phone for a top-up, Anker’s dinky charger is tough to beat. This power bank has a built-in rotating USB-C or Lightning connector (MFi certified), so you don’t need to worry about cables. It packs 5,000 mAh of energy (enough to fully charge most phones). I tested the USB-C version with several Android phones and found it stayed in place, enabling me to use my phone more or less as normal. There’s a USB-C port for recharging the power bank, and it comes with a short cable. It might not be a good pick if you use a thick case.

One USB-C (22.5W) or Lightning (12W) connector and one USB-C port for charging only. Can charge most phones once (5,000 mAh).

Einova Ultra Fast Power Bank 63 charging two smartphones and an AirPods case

Best for Tablets

WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu has been enjoying his time toting around this 20,000-mAh charger. It's slim, fits easily into the padded sleeve of most backpacks, and has enough capacity to recharge an 11-inch tablet twice from zero percent. It's capable of dishing out 45 watts of power for fast charging via the USB-C port, and 18 watts from the middle USB-A port. In a pinch, you can use it to recharge a laptop (as long as it's not a power-sucking machine like a MacBook Pro). It has a lovely fabric material on the exterior, and there's an LED that shows how much juice is left in the tank.

Two USB-A ports (18W and 10.5W) and one USB-C (45W). Can charge most tablets two times (20,000 mAh).

Goal Zero Sherpa 100 portable charger

Best for Laptops

Goal Zero updated its Sherpa line of portable chargers with better wireless charging capabilities: 15 watts, up from 5 watts in the previous model. I tested the Sherpa AC, which features two USB-C ports (60-watt and 100-watt), two USB-A ports, and a 100-watt AC port for those devices that need a pronged plug. It strikes a good balance between power storage (93 watt-hours in my drain test) and weight (2 pounds). It’s enough to charge up my Dell XPS 13 almost twice.

You get a nice color LCD display that shows how much power you've got left, how many watts are coming in, how many are going out, and a rough guess as to how much longer the battery will last (if conditions remain the same). Recharge times vary depending on whether or not you have the Sherpa wall charger (sold separately), but I was able to get it to recharge in under three hours no matter what power source I used. There's also an 8-mm port on the back for attaching a solar panel if you have one. The Sherpa is not cheap, but if you don't need the AC out and can live with a single USB-C (100-watt out, 60-watt in), the Sherpa PD is otherwise the same thing for $200.

Two USB-C ports (60W and 100W), two USB-A (12W), and one AC (100W). Qi wireless charging (15W). Can charge most laptops one to two times (25,600 mAh).

Ugreen Power Bank

Best for Fast Charging

Ugreen's new charger is, as the name suggests, a 145-watt charger with a 25,000-mAh battery. It's surprisingly compact for the power it provides, although at 1.1 pounds, it's definitely not ultralight. There are two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. What sets the Ugreen apart is that you can actually draw 145 watts while charging. That works out to one USB-C port at 100W and the other at 45W. Very few other batteries we've tested are capable of that feat, and none that I know of at this size. If you want to charge fast, this is the power bank for you (although it's worth noting that reviews around the web suggest it doesn't support Samsung's fast charging tech). There's a small LED readout on the side of the battery with the current charge state of the battery. I'd have liked to see some charging info on that screen as well, but that's a small quibble with what's an otherwise outstanding option if you need to keep your laptop charged up wherever you are.

Two USB-C ports (100W and 45W) and one USB-A. Can charge most phones around five times or a laptop once (25,000mAh).

Satechi Duo wireless charger with iPhone

Folding Wireless Charging

With an unusual design that features a fold-up wireless charging stand for phones and a charging spot behind it for your wireless earbuds case (if it supports Qi wireless charging), plus a USB-C port to plug in a third device, the Satechi Duo is a handy power bank to have in your bag. It has a 10,000-mAh capacity with LEDs to show how much juice is left. The downside is that it is slow, offering up to 10 watts of wireless charging power for phones (7.5 watts for iPhones), 5 watts for earbuds, and 10 watts from the USB-C port. It takes three hours to refill the battery with an 18-watt charger.

One USB-C (10W) and two Qi wireless charging spots (up to 10W). Can charge most phones one to two times (10,000 mAh).

Anker MagGo Qi2 Charger

Best Qi2 Portable Charger

The latest entry in Anker’s MagGo range is the first Qi2 power bank we have tested. The Qi2 wireless charging standard borrows elements of Apple’s MagSafe, enabling supported phones to connect with perfect alignment using a ring of magnets. Qi2 brings faster wireless charging rates of up to 15 watts, but is also backward compatible, so older Qi devices can still charge, albeit more slowly. This compact portable charger has a handy kickstand, a two-way USB-C port on the left edge, and a power button with an LED display showing remaining power as a percentage charge time on the right. It can accommodate Qi2 or MagSafe phones in portrait or landscape orientation (it works with Apple’s StandBy mode ). I tested with an iPhone 14 Pro and got 25 percent in around 20 minutes. Despite a large capacity, it falls short of two full charges for your iPhone when charging wirelessly. You might squeeze a little more if you plug in the short USB-C cable provided.

One USB-C port (27W) and Qi2 wireless charging (15W). Can charge most smartphones one or two times (10,000 mAh).

Anker 633 MagGo portable charger

Best MagSafe

One of the biggest problems we run into with portable chargers is forgetting to charge them, so this clever gadget from Anker is one of our favorite iPhone accessories . Ostensibly, it’s a wireless charging stand with MagSafe support that includes a charging spot for your AirPods on the base. The clever part, earning it a place here, is the detachable portable charger that slides out of the stand when you need to go. It stays stuck to the back of any MagSafe iPhone (and Android phones using MagSafe cases ) and continues to charge it wirelessly. You can also recharge the power bank or charge another device with it via the USB-C port. The Anker MagGo 622 ($50) is a good alternative if you just want a MagSafe power bank, and it has a wee foldable stand built in. We recommend some alternatives in our Best MagSafe Power Banks guide .

One USB-C (12W) and Qi wireless charging (7.5W). Can charge most phones to between 50 and 80 percent (5,000 mAh).

Belkin BoostChargePro Power Bank

Best for Apple Watch

Remembering to take a power bank with you for a night away is a real achievement, but what about your Apple Watch ? It may be one of the best smartwatches , but the battery rarely lasts beyond a full day. This compact, black power bank from Belkin has a soft touch finish and an Apple Watch charger built in at one end. Even better, it can fast charge your Apple Watch, and there’s enough capacity to charge your iPhone or AirPods via USB-C at the same time, making this the perfect portable charger to stow away in your bag or pocket. You get a 1-foot USB-C to USB-C cable in the box.

One USB-C port (20W) and one Apple Watch fast charger (7.5W). Can charge most smartphones two or three times (10,000 mAh).

Biolite Charge 20

Best for Outdoors

If you are hiking, camping, cycling, or running, the BioLite is a handy companion. This durable power bank is lightweight, a good size to slip into a pocket, and has a nice grippy textured finish. The yellow plastic makes it easy to spot in a bag or crowded tent, and it indicates the port end, making it easier to plug in when the light is fading. The smallest size is enough to fully charge most phones, and the USB-C handles 18 watts in or out. Two additional USB-A out ports let you simultaneously charge up multiple devices, though you will probably want to size up to the 10,000-mAh Charge 40 ($60) or the 20,000-mAh Charge 80 ($80) if you plan on doing that.

Two USB-A ports (18W) and one USB-C (18W). Can charge most phones at least once (6,000 mAh).

Zendure super tank pro portable charger

Best for Air Travel

With a 26,800-mAh capacity, this is the maximum-sized power bank you can take onto a flight. It’s perfect for vacations and even resembles crush-proof luggage. There are four USB-C ports; the left pair can handle up to 100 watts in or out, and the two ports on the right can put out 20 watts each (total maximum simultaneous output is 138 watts). There’s support for PD 3.0, PPS, and QC 3.0 standards.

This portable charger had no issues fast-charging our Pixels, iPhones, and MacBooks. It can be fully replenished in under two hours with the correct charger and supports pass-through charging. The small OLED display shows remaining power as a percentage and in watt-hours (Wh), and power flow in or out for each port. It is chunky, but it comes with a zip-up case with room for cables. Unfortunately, it's frequently out of stock.

Four USB-C (100W, 100W, 20W, 20W but 138W Max Total). Can charge most laptops one to two times (26,800 mAh).

Infinacore Pandora Portable Wall Charger

Best Wall Charger Power Bank

Hybrid devices can be very handy when you have limited space, so this wall charger and power bank in one, which you can buy with EU and UK plug adapters, is a solid option. There’s a display to show you what percentage of the 8,000 mAh capacity remains, two USB-A ports, and one USB-C port. But that’s not all. If you turn it on its side, you also get a wireless charger. Charging rates are slow and you won’t get close to the full capacity if you charge wirelessly. The manufacturer’s suggestion that this is suitable for laptops is also just wrong, but to keep your phones and other small gadgets topped up, it will do the job nicely.

One USB-C port, two USB-A ports (18W total), and Qi wireless charging (5W). Can charge most phones one or two times (8,000 mAh).

Clutch v3 Lightning portable charger

Most Portable

The svelte Clutch, available in black, white, or pink, is about the same size as a stack of credit cards and weighs around 2 ounces. It’s designed to slide easily into pockets and bags and offers a modest top-up for your phone’s flagging battery. The third version of the super slim portable charger packs a larger battery than its predecessors, at 3,300 mAh. You charge it via the USB-C port, and there is a built-in charging cable (there's a different Lightning model). It’s slow, it gets quite warm when plugged in, and a full Clutch added only around 40 percent to my iPhone 14 Pro’s battery. You can get higher capacities and more efficient chargers for less, but portability is the point of the Clutch V3, and it’s a handy size to tuck away in your bag for emergencies.

One USB-C port and a built-in Lightning or USB-C cable. Can top up your phone (3,300 mAh).

Ampere Really Good Power Bank

If You Want Built-In Cables

Apart from the cheesy name, what makes this charger distinctive is its built-in charging cables. It is way too easy to forget or lose your cables, and they get tangled in bags, so a power bank with permanently attached USB-C and Lightning cables is a smart idea. Ampere’s power bank has a capacity of 10,000 mAh and supports the Power Delivery standard. Both cables can deliver up to 18 watts, but that’s the combined maximum, so while you can charge an iPhone and an Android phone simultaneously, it will divide between them. The one thing you don’t get with this power bank is a USB-C cable for charging it.

One built-in USB-C cable (18W) and one Lightning cable (18W). One USB-C port for recharging (input only). Can charge most phones two to three times (10,000 mAh).

Shargeek Storm 2 portable charger

Cyberpunk Style

If you loved the clear craze that gave us a wave of translucent electronics in the 1990s, then you will immediately see the appeal of Shargeek’s power banks. A see-through case provides a clear view of the ports, chips, and bundled rechargeable Samsung Li-ion batteries inside this portable charger. The color display gives you a detailed readout of the voltage, current, and power flowing in or out of each port. If you dig into the menu, you can find stats showing temperature, cycles, and more.

The DC barrel port is unusual, and you can specify the voltage and current you want to suit different devices; it can deliver up to 75 watts. The first USB-C supports PD PPS and can go up to 100 watts (enough to charge a laptop), the second USB-C goes to 30 watts and supports PD 3.0 and Quick Charge 4 standards, and the USB-A port is QC 3.0 and puts out 18 watts. In short, this power bank will fast-charge most devices. It comes with a yellow 100-watt USB-C to USB-C cable and a wee bag. If you don’t care about the DC port, you might prefer the Shargeek Storm 2 Slim ($200) .

Two USB-C ports (100W and 30W), one USB-A (18W), and a DC barrel port. Can charge most laptops once (25,600 mAh).

Panasonic Eneloop Pro Rechargable Batteries

Best for the Rest

Got devices that don't charge via USB? Yes, they're still around. I have an old, but still great, GPS device that runs on AA batteries, headlamps that take AAA batteries, and countless other odds and ends that need batteries. After running through several brands, I've found Eneloop rechargeable batteries to be the longest-lasting and most reliable. The fast Panasonic charger can recharge any combination of AA and AAA batteries in less than three hours, and you can sometimes get it bundled in a pack that includes four AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries.

The standard AA Eneloop batteries hold around 2,000 mAh each, with AAA batteries holding 800 mAh, but you can upgrade to Eneloop Pro (2,500 mAh and 930 mAh, respectively) for more demanding gadgets, or go for Eneloop Lite (950 mAh and 550 mAh) for low-power devices. They come precharged with solar energy, and Eneloop recently switched to plastic-free cardboard packaging.

Noco Boost Jump Starter

Best for the Car

It’s a horrible feeling when your car refuses to start because the battery is dead, but if you have a portable battery pack like this one in your trunk, you can give yourself a jump-start. WIRED reviewer Eric Ravenscraft  called it a roadside lifesaver after it jump-started his car several times on a long trip home from out of state. The Noco Boost Plus is a 1,000-amp, 12-volt battery pack with jump leads. It also has a USB-A port to charge your phone and a built-in 100-lumen LED flashlight. It’s a good thing to have in your trunk, but you must remember to charge it every six months. It’s also IP65-rated and good for temperatures from –4 degrees Fahrenheit up to 122 degrees.

One USB-A port. Can jump start a car up to 20 times.

Jackery Explorer 300 Plus

A Portable Power Station

Folks seeking more power for camping or a long road trip should pick up the Jackery Explorer 300 Plus. This cute and compact battery has a fold-out handle, packs a 288-Wh capacity, and weighs 8.3 pounds. It has two USB-C ports (18W and 100W), one USB-A (15W), a car port (120W), and an AC outlet (300W, 600W surge). There is plenty of power to keep your small gadgets going for a few days. There’s also an AC input, or you can charge it via USB-C. The fan kicks in sometimes, but the Silent Charging Mode keeps it below 45 decibels. You can manage it with Jackery’s app via Bluetooth, and it also has a handy flashlight. We have found Jackery gear reliable and durable, and you can expect to get at least a decade out of this battery. Go any bigger than this and portability gets debatable. We have a separate Best Portable Power Stations guide with recommendations for folks who need a lot of power.

If you want charging options for going off-grid, you can get the 300 Plus with a 40W book-sized solar panel ($400) . It took me around eight hours to charge the battery with this panel in blue sky sunshine. If you want a faster charge and have the space for a larger panel, consider the 300 Plus with 100W solar panels ($579) .

Two USB-C ports (100W and 18W), one USB-A (15W), one car port (120W), and an AC outlet (300W). Can charge most phones more than 10 times or a laptop three times (288Wh).

Tau Keyring Powerbank

Honorable Mentions

There are so many portable chargers out there. Here are a few more we like that just missed out on a place above for one reason or another.

  • Rolling Square Tau Emergency Keyring Power Bank for $29 : Small enough to go on a keyring, with built-in USB-C and Lightning cables, this power bank is handy in a pinch. It added somewhere around 30 percent to my iPhone 14 Pro battery. It came with a recharging cradle that it attaches to magnetically. On the downside, the rubber on the USB-C cable on my test unit bunched up when plugged into a phone with a case and no longer sits flush in the power bank.
  • Baseus Adaman 140W Portable Charger for $110 : Function over form, this power bank is a big metal brick. It has a 24,000-mAh capacity, and can charge at up to 140W, but a few devices we tested did not fast charge. It has a digital display, two USB-C ports, and one USB-A port, and comes with a 3.3-foot USB-C cable. We've tried many products from up and down the Baseus product line. While they are generally reliable, we do think there are better options.
  • Iniu Power Bank BI-B64 for $100 : Offering relatively low prices, Iniu is a power bank brand on the rise. This portable charger packs a 27,000-mAh capacity, can put out up to 140W, and charges three devices at once via the two USB-C ports and a single USB-A port. We also tested the very similar BI-B63 ($60) , which has a slightly lower capacity at 25,000 mAh, but seems like a better value. Unfortunately, both fell slightly short of the stated capacity when tested. We also like the color options available in the company's slimmest version .
  • Anker Prime Power Bank for $130 : With a total combined output of 200W and a hefty 20,000-mAh capacity, this is a solid choice for charging any device; you could even use it to charge two laptops at once via the two USB-C ports. There is a USB-A port, too, and a digital screen like the 737 listed above. You can also buy a Power Base ($70) for this, which enables you to stick the power bank on top and charge it via pogo pins. The base makes it easy to keep the power bank topped up and is handy for desktop charging with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port (combined max output 100W). I tried the UK version (£130) , which worked great, but WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu had issues with the US base failing to charge the power bank.
  • Anker Nano Power Bank 10,000 for $45 : Another solid option from Anker (also available for £50 from Amazon UK ), this power bank has a built-in USB-C cable that doubles as a loop for easy carrying and a further one USB-C and one USB-A port. It has a 10,000-mAh capacity, good for just shy of two full charges for most phones. It maxes out at 30 watts each way and can be fully charged in around two hours.
  • Acefast Fast Charge Power Bank M1 for $45 : The see-through design and fun colors (we got purple) make this worth a look. It has a 10,000-mAh battery inside, supports Power Delivery, and can go up to 30 watts. The display shows the remaining power as a percentage, and you can recharge it in less than two hours.
  • OtterBox 2-in-1 Power Bank with Apple Watch Charger for $50 : Finished in durable aluminum, this clever OtterBox power bank has a built-in Apple Watch charger. The rubberized bottom helps it stick to surfaces, and Nightstand mode makes it a handy bedside clock. But the limited 3,000-mAh battery means it runs out fast if you use the USB-C to top up your iPhone.
  • Juice 3 Portable Charger for £20: An environmentally conscious alternative for folks in the UK, Juice power banks come in lots of colors, are made from 90 percent recycled plastic, and come in 100 percent recycled packaging. The series is numbered based on roughly how many charges you can expect to get out of it for the average smartphone, so the Juice 3 holds three full charges.
  • Rugd Power Brick for $40 : Also available from Amazon UK (£40) , this shock- and water-resistant (IP67 certified) charger doubles as a bright 16-LED with an SOS mode, and has a hefty 10,050-mAh capacity (one USB-C at 18 W and a USB-A that supports QC). It’s also bright orange, weighs just 280 grams, and comes with a carabiner for easy attachment, all of which make it an excellent camping buddy.
  • Mpowered Luci Pro Lux for $38 : This solar-powered inflatable lantern boasts 10 LEDs and emits a lovely warm glow that’s perfect for camping or walking at night. It is IP67-rated and packs down flat for easy carrying. While it’s not primarily a power bank, the 2,000-mAh battery in the Luci Pro can charge your phone in an emergency. A nearly full Luci Pro boosted my Pixel 6 Pro by around 25 percent. It takes at least 14 hours to charge back up using the solar panels, or you can plug into an outlet and recharge in three.
  • Mophie Powerstation , Powerstation XL , and Powerstation Pro AC for $50+ : Mophie's 2023 update to its Powerstation line has three devices in 10,000, 20,000, and 27,000-mAh capacities. They're bulky, nondescript devices with USB-C and USB-A ports, but the latter has an AC port and is great for travel. WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu used the XL during his trip to Japan and had no trouble keeping his Switch Lite and Pixel 7 Pro topped up. There are LEDs to indicate remaining battery life, but there's otherwise nothing special about 'em.
  • Excitrus Magnetic Wireless Power Bank for $120 : Power banks can be dull, so I like the unusual green fabric skin here, and a display embedded in the black plastic frame shows the remaining power percentage. This 20,800-mAh-capacity power bank has two USB-C ports (100 W and 45 W), a USB-A (18 W), and a wireless charging top (10 W) that works with Apple’s MagSafe. On the downside, it’s big, and it seems to drain slowly, even when not in use.
  • iWalk Portable Charger for $40 : WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu used the Lightning version of this power bank while covering the Apple event and it reliably topped up his iPhone. The 4,800-mAh capacity won't fully refill your device, but it's tiny enough to keep in a bag at all times. There's an LED that shows the remaining percentage of power left. The company also has a MagSafe power bank ($36) .

Lithium Ion Batteries

Why You Should Avoid Cheap Stuff

Many years ago, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 gained notoriety when its batteries caught fire in a series of incidents. There's been a steady stream of similar, though isolated, incidents ever since. However, despite the high-profile coverage of batteries gone wrong, the vast majority of Li-ion batteries are safe.

The chemical reaction that occurs inside a lithium-ion cell is complex, but as in any battery, there's a negative and a positive electrode. In lithium batteries, the negative is a lithium-carbon compound, and the positive is cobalt oxide (though many battery makers are moving away from cobalt). These two compounds cause a reaction that is safe when controlled and delivers energy to your devices. When the reaction gets out of control though, you end up with earbuds melting in your ears. What changes a safe reaction to an uncontrolled reaction can be any number of things: excess heat, physical damage during use, physical damage during manufacture, or using the wrong charger.

The three basic rules that have kept me safe (thus far) through testing dozens and dozens of batteries are:

  • Avoid cheap cords, chargers, and outlet adapters.
  • Make sure batteries aren't exposed to excessive heat (over 110 degrees).
  • Regularly inspect batteries for signs of damage.

Avoiding cheap wall-outlet adapters, cords, and chargers is the most important. These are your most likely source of problems. Those chargers you see on Amazon for $20 cheaper than the competition? Not worth it. They probably got the price down by skimping on insulation, leaving out power-management tools, and ignoring the basics of electrical safety. Price alone is no guarantee of safety, either. Buy from reputable companies and brands.

Then there's heat. Too much of it can cause all manner of problems, both in terms of discharge and in terms of safety. Avoid heat, and pay attention to your batteries when they're charging. If your device gets overly hot when charging, this can be a sign of problems. Similarly, beware of any swollen, bulging, or otherwise misshapen batteries.

The 9 Best Travel Adapters of 2024

Essential packing for any international traveler

TripSavvy / Chloe Jeong

Travel overseas comes with its share of logistical challenges. Charging your devices in Greece or Sweden shouldn't be one of them. Travel adapters allow an electronic device from one country to plug into a differently shaped outlet. For example, U.S. wall outlets require a plug with two flat vertical prongs, while outlets in the U.K. require a plug with a top vertical prong and two bottom horizontal ones. One major heads up: most adapters do not convert electricity from one voltage to another, which may be a requirement depending on where you're headed.

When selecting products, we considered supported destinations, the number of USB ports, and different price points.

Why Trust TripSavvy

Best overall, epicka universal travel adapter.

Packs easily

Quick-charging USB ports

Covers a wide range of countries

Noisy when charging

A travel adapter helps charge your electronic devices on the go, whether taking a short trip across the pond or hopping on a worldwide adventure. The Epicka Universal USB Travel Power Adapter offers support for more than 150 countries, including the U.S., Europe, and Australia. It has a universal input design that allows a multitude of plug options. The inclusion of four USB ports on its front and a USB-C port allows the charging of six devices at a single time. The first set of USB ports charges at 2.4A, making it ideal for tablets, cameras, and phones for faster charging, while the remaining two ports charge at 2.1A, making them better suited for phones only. The adapter's versatility and compact size saved our reviewer from overpacking. Our tester also appreciated the bonus iPhone charger that comes included.

As with many universal adapters, the Epicka is designed with 110V devices in mind, so it's not recommended for higher-powered appliances such as hair dryers or flat irons.

What to Look For in a Travel Adapter

Destination.

If you want to cut down on bulk, go for a streamlined, single-type converter, though it might only work in some regions. On the other hand, universal adapters will be effective no matter where you wind up—so if you’re a frequent jet setter, this might be the best option.

There are other benefits to choosing a lighter product, depending on the space you'll be staying in once you arrive. "Because some hotels and homes have outlets in the most unusual locations, make sure that the adapter is not too large or heavy to fit into sunken sockets," says Charlie Cotton, Head of Operations at millennial group travel company FTLO Travel.

Newer converters now come with USB ports, eliminating the need for the USB-to-outlet converter for charging tablets and phones. In most cases, this means that you can charge more than one device at a time, which is handy for families—everyone’s gadgets definitely add up on the road—or those traveling with multiple devices .

Forking over a ton of money for a converter you’ll only use once a year doesn’t make sense, so go for a price that correlates with how often you travel. That said, buying one before you leave for vacation is almost always cheaper than on the ground.

Many countries use a single plug type throughout. To ensure your adapter is compatible, you must identify the plug type used in the country or countries on your itinerary. World Standards shares a map that details plug types for every country.

A universal adapter allows you to take your devices worldwide with one compact adapter that fits a variety of outlets. A plug adapter fits a single country’s outlets.

A plug adapter updates the shape of your device’s plug to fit the outlet in the country you’re traveling to. It doesn’t convert voltage. A voltage converter adapts the electrical voltage from the device to the outlet. This is valuable because American devices sometimes operate at a different voltage than is available in other countries.

Best Portable Chargers for Travel

Power banks or portable chargers can be lifesavers during travel. Travellers rely heavily on their portable chargers to power battery hungry smartphones, tablets and laptops. Latest high capacity power banks are capable of powering even laptops and Macbooks for extended periods. Latest USB-C PD Portable chargers get charged and can charge phones/laptops two to three times faster than power banks from a few years ago.

We have carefully handpicked the best power banks for travel use as well as car use that offer a combination of portability, charging speed, versatility, weight, and reliability for travellers.

All our recommended power banks are TSA approved for carry in cabin baggage (carry-on baggage) on flights. If you are asked by the TSA agent regarding the safety worthiness of your powerbank, point out the Wh rating on the powerbank. TSA and other international flight safety agencies allow power banks less than 100Wh , (that is less than 26,800 mAH).

Here are our top 6 picks in best power banks for travel:

2. MyTravelPal Worldwide Universal 10A Travel Adapter

There are a couple of reasons why this universal adaptor from MyTravelPal stands out. The first is that it claims to be the safest travel adapter in the world – it's one of the very few all-in-one travel adapters that has passed the very strict regulatory standard BS:8546. MyTravelPal's 4 plugs have a ground/earth connection, an essential safety feature for many electrical appliances, meaning you can use this adapter with high powered electricals such as computers, curling tongs, hairdryers, laptops, phones, etc without worry.

There's also a push-button resetting fuse, which means you don't need to carry spare fuses with you or rush out to buy replacements when you're on holiday. MyTravelPal's protection system ensures that it will automatically shut down if it detects any abnormal usage. It's a great product that won't let you down whilst keeping you safe.

5. Bestek Worldwide Travel Adaptor

Again, this is a decent quality charger that comes in at a great price, though it only comes with 2 USB ports instead of 4. There’s a universal socket and it’s fitted with USA, Australian, UK and European plugs for use in over 150 countries.

Thanks to the embedded micro USB cable, phones and tablets can benefit from fast charging, great if your portable devices are gonna receive heavy use while you’re away. With safety features including fire proof materials, protection against power surges and a safety plug lock to keep the right prongs in position, this is another great all-rounder that should do the job nicely.

The best travel adaptor for South Africa

4. skross world to south africa travel adapter.

If you're going to Africa, you're going to need to get to know the Type-M socket. Never heard of it? Unfortunately almost all so-called 'universal travel adapter' are nothing of the sort because they don't include large parts of Africa and Asia, where an archaic UK plug now called Type-M is still used.

As well as being standard in South Africa, Namibia, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland, Type-M is common in Nepal and Bhutan, too. Cue this simple, but essential travel adapter that converts from every other plug in the world –such as the US, UK, Europe, Australia, China and Brazil – to the Type-M. This Switzerland-made example from Skross doesn't convert voltage, but it does work with power-hungry devices including laptops and travel hairdryers.

The best travel adaptor for multiple devices

5. bestek 200w travel adaptor.

A voltage converter is required for devices that do not offer dual voltage, which makes this device incredibly handy if you’re heading to the states, where voltage is a lot lower than the UK.

With 2 AC plugs and 4 USB ports you’ll have no problem charging multiple devices at once – just bear in mind that you cannot plug in high-powered devices, such as hair dryers or straighteners. The device comes in a handy case, which contains three international AC adaptors for use in over 150 countries. The downside is you can only plug in UK devices.

How to choose the best travel adapter

The best travel adapters have USB sockets, so charging up phones, tablets and other portable devices should be fairly convenient. But they're not all equal. Most will have at least a couple of USB slots; check they're rated 2.4V, which will refuel your phone faster, and means it can cope with a tablet, too.

Better still, look for Quick Charge 3.0 (QC 3.0), which does it ever faster. If you have a laptop that charges via USB-C, look for a travel adaptor with built-in USB-PD (USB Power Delivery), which can send 100W into a laptop.

Not all travel adaptors will transform voltage, so it’s always worth checking to see if you need to purchase a voltage transformer alongside the adapter. Many devices are dual voltage rated, so you may not even require a transformer; even so, it’s always best to check the book of words to double-check.

Good news is, all EU countries have the same voltage as the UK, so it’s only the USA, South America, Asia, Australasia and Africa that you need to think about. As a rule, high powered devices such as hairdryers and straighteners cannot be used with a travel adaptor, with the advice being to purchase cheap ones when you’ve arrived at your destination.

Amazon is usually the best place to head for travel adaptors, as you can get hold of highly-rated products for sometimes a fraction of the high street price (and with Prime Delivery).

The best travel adapters 2023

Emma Rowley

If you’ve ever had to rush around at an airport to buy a travel adapter or worse, ended up staring at a dead Kindle on the plane, you’ll know that forgetting an adapter can take the shine off a trip. And, if you have to buy at the airport, you’ll pay twice as much.

Save money by planning ahead and purchasing a couple of power adapters online before your holiday. Once you’ve got them, you can keep them in your suitcase or travel bag and never get caught out again. That’s not to mention those with USB ports you can use day-to-day, for charging multiple devices at once and maybe even providing fast charging options.

You can even find some world-to-world adapters, which will take any plug type, and connect to any socket – ideal not only for travelling, but also for any international tech that you end up bringing back from your trip to use at home.

If you’re not sure which kind of adapter you need, have a look at our buying advice, which follows the chart. We’ve got information on sockets and connecting your adapter, as well as regions, voltage, and 2- versus 3-pin plugs.

If you’re busy planning a trip, you might also want to take a look at our guide to the best portable power banks .

Best travel adapters

Tec uk to eu travel adapter twin pack – best budget option (eu).

TEC UK to EU Travel Adapter Twin Pack - Best budget option (EU)

  • Europe only

Let’s start with something dead simple: this is a twin pack of UK to EU travel adapters, which will let you use your UK tech just about anywhere in Europe.

They’re cheap and cheerful, but they work – and for most people, that’s enough. They also cost a lot less online than buying the exact same ones in an airport newsagent.

If you know you mostly travel in Europe, or just have a specific trip coming up that you need an adapter or two for, this is the cheapest way to charge your gadgets once you’re there.

TEC UK to US Travel Adapter Twin Pack – Best budget option (US)

TEC UK to US Travel Adapter Twin Pack - Best budget option (US)

Along very similar lines, here’s the same adapter, but for the US and other countries that use this plug type, which includes Canada, Mexico, Japan and most of South America, among other locations.

Remember that it won’t convert the voltage, so you may find that some of your UK devices charge more slowly in the US, and a few might not even charge at all if they can’t draw sufficient power, but in our experience this is rare.

MyTravelPal Pro – Best safety features

MyTravelPal Pro - Best safety features

  • Safety features
  • 3 USB ports for fast charging
  • Use in over 150 countries
  • No USB-C port

If you’re concerned about safety, the MyTravelPal Pro adaptor is an excellent option, as it has two safety features: a surge protector that’ll shut it down to protect your devices in the event of abnormal power; and ground/earth connections on all four plugs, so you can use high-powered devices without worrying.

Cleverly, you can unscrew the grounding pin on the US plug, so usage isn’t limited to sockets with a third slot.

The Pro can power four devices at once, with a plug socket and three USB charging ports, which allow for quick charging (up to 70% faster than an average charger). This also means it’s very handy around the home, so you’ll get plenty of use from it.

It doesn’t convert voltage but it does support a wide input range: 100-250V. It will work in over 150 countries, including Australia and New Zealand, Canada, China, Europe, Japan, UK and the USA.

Zendure Passport III – Best for home & travel

Zendure Passport III - Best for home & travel

  • Works in over 200 countries
  • Surge protector
  • 4 USB-C ports, 1 USB-A

The Zendure Passport III is not only a great travel adapter, but also an excellent charger at home.

With sliding connectors, it can plug into type A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O outlets, and accepts type A, B, C, E, F, G, I, J, L, and N plugs, so it works in over 200 countries and regions – including the US, Europe, Australia, and UK.

Thanks to an auto-resetting fuse it’ll cut off the power if it detects that it’s getting too hot, which should save your devices (and the Passport III itself) from problems with incompatible international voltages.

In addition it boasts four USB-C ports and one USB-A, so it can charge multiple devices at once, with USB-C charging at up to 65W – enough to fast charge a laptop or tablet.

Zendure Passport II Pro – Most powerful

Zendure Passport II Pro - Most powerful

  • Useful in 200 countries
  • Can charge 6 devices at once
  • Not earthed

The Zendure Passport II Pro is a travel adapter that’s so powerful you’ll probably end up using it at home too.

It can plug into UK, US, EU, or Australian sockets, and you can also plug all of those into it, covering more than 200 countries. The 10A self-resetting fuse can handle high-power appliances, and will reset if it overloads rather than breaking – although it’s not earthed.

It can charge up to six devices simultaneously: one through the main AC socket, and then two USB-C and four USB-A. One USB-C port supports most fast charging standards for laptops and phones up to 61W, although if you connect other devices simultaneously this port caps at a slightly lower 45W, with 12W shared between the other USBs.

Go Travel Duo Earthed UK to EU Power Adapter – Four device charging

Go Travel Duo Earthed UK to EU Power Adapter - Four device charging

  • Charge 4 devices at once
  • Earthed model won't fit US sockets

This handy power adaptor from Go Travel will let you charge up to four devices simultaneously through just one plug: two through the UK mains sockets, and another two through the included USB-A sockets.

This model is perfect for using across Europe, but you can also get an essentially identical one for using in the US and Canada and other compatible countries.

Bear in mind that both are earthed, meaning they’re ideal for safely charging high usage devices like laptops, but as the UK model also comes with a non-removable earth pin, it won’t fit into two-pin sockets in the US.

Skross World Travel Adapter MUV USB – Best for two-pin compatibility

Skross World Travel Adapter MUV USB - Best for two-pin compatibility

  • Useful across UK, US, Aus, Europe and Asia
  • For less power-intensive tech

Skross is one of the best recognised and most trusted names around when it comes to travel adapters, which is why we’ve picked its MUV USB adapter for our round-up.

Designed for two-pin, un-earthed devices, this is perfect for less power-intensive tech like shavers, phones, tablets, or e-readers, but might not be able to keep up with a laptop or hairdryer’s power needs. On the plus side, that means its 2-pin outputs will work in all US and European sockets.

However, it has the advantage of accepting input devices from the UK, US, Australia, Europe and most of Asia, and outputting to all of the same countries.

You also get two USB-A sockets, which share a 5V power supply. You can use those to charge two USB devices while simultaneously charging something else through the main socket, making this ideal for anyone with a few devices they need to charge at once.

Skross World Travel Adapter Pro Light USB – Best for quick charging

Skross World Travel Adapter Pro Light USB - Best for quick charging

  • Good for high-power devices
  • Not suitable for 2-pin sockets

This Skross adapter looks pretty similar to the one listed above, but it has one significant difference: it includes an earth pin, and is rated for up to 1575W, meaning you can safely use it to (quickly) charge high power devices like laptops.

As with other three-pin plugs, note that it means it won’t fit every plug socket – the earth pin isn’t removable, so won’t fit two-pin sockets in the US or Australia, meaning you might find some sockets you just can’t use.

Also, note that this does support European plugs, but only through using the detachable plug section. This means you can’t use the included USB sockets for charging, although those will work in every other region.

Anker PowerPort 4 Lite – Best for family use

Anker PowerPort 4 Lite - Best for family use

  • USB-A points
  • Not for US/ Aus/ NZ

The Anker PowerPort 4 Lite lacks Quick Charge 2.0 or 3.0 compatibility but not every device is compatible with that anyway, so these four standard USB-A ports will be fine for most, with enough to satisfy a small family on the move.

It does feature  PowerIQ and VoltageBoost, however.

It features interchangeable UK and EU plug heads, but strangely none for US or Australia/New Zealand.

TEC UK To India Adaptor – For Southern Asia

TEC UK To India Adaptor - For Southern Asia

  • Asia-specific
  • Not a voltage transformer

If you travel to India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka, you may find international power points in your hotel but these countries also have a dedicated plug type.

Travel adapters of this kind can be expensive at the airport, so to save money, buy before your head off. This is a twin pack, so it’s even better value.

Bear in mind that these are straightforward adapters and not voltage transformers.

Connecting your adapter

Most adapters come with USB-A sockets – some phones and laptops ship with cables with USB-C connectors at both ends, so make sure you have a USB-A-to-USB-C cable with you to keep those topped up. And USB-C ports are more common now.

Even more useful are travel adapters that incorporate multiple USB sockets, which mean you can use one plug to charge several devices. Some now even include a USB-C Power Delivery port – useful for owners of USB-C laptops such as some of Apple’s MacBooks.

Regions and voltages

The most important thing to check before you buy a travel adapter is what sort of plug the area you’re travelling to uses. For the sake of this article, we’re going to assume that you’re based in the UK, which means you’ll need an adapter to travel almost anywhere in the world, with rare exceptions like Hong Kong and Singapore which use the UK plug.

For the most part, there are three broad regions of plug beyond the UK type: the round pinned plugs used across Europe, the flat straight pins used across America and some parts of Asia, and the flat slanted pins used in Australia and the rest of Asia. It’s always worth double-checking with a quick Google search ahead of a trip, and there are a few other unique plug types out there to watch out for.

Voltage can also be an issue. UK plugs use 220-240V, which is conveniently what you’ll find across Europe and Australia. US sockets only run at 120V, while Japan offers an even skimpier 110V. For the most part, this isn’t an issue, but it may mean that some devices will charge more slowly than you’re used to, and some of the most power-intensive might not work at all if they can’t draw sufficient power from the mains to run. Unfortunately, there’s nothing a travel adapter can do about that, as they don’t convert voltage.

2-pin vs 3-pin

One thing to look out for in travel adapters is whether or not they support earth pins. While 3-pin plugs are the standard in the UK, elsewhere in the world they’re used less often or not at all.

Earthing helps to protect you and your gadgets from electric shock, so you may prefer to opt for 3-pin adapters, which offer an extra level of protection. Bear in mind that this may limit where you can use them – the US and EU have both 2-pin and 3-pin sockets, so your 3-pin plug simply won’t fit into some sockets, and you might wish you’d risked it with a 2-pin model.

Securing the best laptop power bank is a smart move for anyone who finds themselves frequently on the move or looking to maximize productivity during their commute.

In today's fast-paced world, being prepared with a reliable power bank for your laptop is almost as essential as the laptop itself. Despite advancements in even the best laptop battery life, the duration your device can operate without a charge still largely depends on the intensity of its use. Furthermore, the opportunity to charge up in public spaces, such as cafes, is becoming increasingly scarce.

So choosing the right laptop power bank is important and involves several considerations. It's important to verify compatibility with your laptop, particularly for models that require proprietary chargers. Assessing the power output is crucial as well, especially for demanding laptops like the best mobile workstations or the best gaming laptops , to ensure the power bank can adequately support your laptop's energy needs. Additionally, the capacity of the power bank's internal battery will determine how many charges you can get for your device, and its size impacts its portability.

While finding the perfect laptop power bank might seem daunting, the effort is well justified by the convenience and freedom it provides. To streamline your search, we've compiled a list of the best portable laptop chargers available right now, designed to save you time and simplify your decision-making process. Explore our top recommendations to find the power bank that best suits your mobile work and lifestyle needs.

The best laptop power bank in 2024

Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

Below you'll find full write-ups for each of the best laptop power bank options in our list. We've tested each one extensively, so you can be sure that our recommendations can be trusted.

The best laptop power bank overall

1. baseus blade, specifications, reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

The Baseus Blade is an impressive portable charger that is merely 0.7 inches thick and around 1.08lb. It has a smart digital display that gives important readout information, including the power percentage left on the battery, voltage, and current display. This portable battery has two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports. The USB-C ports can be used to either charge the portable battery or output to another device.

This portable charger is fantastic. It's slim, lightweight, and powerful enough to charge multiple devices with its 20,000mAh battery. Not only that, but it charges these devices quickly. The Baseus Blade is fantastic for work trips to the coffee shop, a plane, or anywhere you may need to charge your beloved electronics but are unsure if you'll be able to find an outlet or don't want to risk an outlet.

The best affordable laptop power bank overall

2. einova ultra fast powerbank.

The Einova Ultra Fast Powerbank keeps things simple, compact, and reliable, which is all you want from a laptop power bank you want to travel with. At 6.75 x 4 x 0.63 inches and 0.498kg, it's thin and relatively lightweight. Combine that with its 74Wh power, and you've got a device that keeps things portable for jet-setting creatives and remote working professionals and is TSA-approved. It even has an easy-to-read LCD display to show just how much juice it has left.

More importantly, unlike other so-called laptop chargers that sometimes fail to work, this one's incredibly reliable and capable of charging your laptop every time. And that's while charging your other portables with its 3-port selection. It may only have the standard 20,000mAh capacity, but that's a full laptop charge and a half, definitely more than enough to last you while you're in between outlets. Best yet, it's under $100, cheaper than most of the offerings on this list.

The best laptop power bank for compatibility

3. maxoak k2 portable charger 50,000mah.

Laptop power banks are a tricky thing. Most are only compatible with specific portables, depending on the available output port and the energy transfer rate. Luckily, you’ve got the MaxOak K2 Portable Charger. With a maximum power of 130W and two DC outputs – not to mention a variety of DC adapters included – this power bank is compatible with many laptops. That makes it useful for households with multiple types of laptops and devices. Unfortunately, this isn’t TSA-approved, due to its 185Wh, over the 100Wh TSA standard. However, it’s great for road trips, camping, and train rides.

The best laptop power bank for travel

4. omnicharge 20+ 20000mah.

With just 70wh, the OmniCharge 20+ 20000mah is TSA-approved, making it an excellent companion for work trips abroad and if you have long layovers. It’s compatible with 60W USB-C laptops like the MacBook Pro 13-inch and Dell XPS 2-in-1, but its 100W AC outlet is great for other laptops and other tech gadgets like DSLRs . Finally, it features passthrough charging, so you can charge it while simultaneously powering devices via the AC or USB-A ports. It is a bit more expensive than the MaxOak Laptop Power Bank. However, its versatility does make it worth the higher price tag.

The best overpowered laptop power bank

5. halo bolt 58830.

The HALO Bolt 58830 isn’t just a portable laptop charger, but it is effective thanks to its AC outlet. This portable charger is also designed to jumpstart a car and is great for laptops that draw up to 60W of power.

It has its own jump start port and comes with its own jumper cables. And, unlike other portable laptop chargers, which only come in one or two colors, this one comes in seven different colors/design patterns, making it ideal for folks who don’t care for the minimalist approach.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a USB-C port, and the AC outlet should take care of most of your laptop charging needs.

The best laptop power bank for Macs

6. zmi usb pd backup battery & hub.

For MacBook Pro and MacBook Air users that only require up to 30W of power and utilize USB-C charging, the ZMI USB PD Backup Battery & Hub is a terrific option. It doesn’t have an AC outlet, but its USB-C port lets you charge your older MacBook units. ZMI also promises HP Spectre x360 13-inch and Samsung Chromebook Pro compatibility. Thanks to its two USB-A ports, you can also charge your other devices. More importantly for travelers and digital nomads, it boasts a svelte and lightweight design – at 405 g, it’s a lot lighter than the iPad Air.

The best feature-rich laptop power bank

7. poweradd pilot pro 32000mah power bank.

The POWERADD Pilot Pro might be as versatile as laptop chargers come. It comes equipped with an LCD display showing important information like battery level and voltage. It also has two USB outputs and a DC output to accommodate various devices, from smartphones and tablets to power-hungry laptops. The charger also comes with 10 different connectors making it compatible with most laptops. It also has fast charging and built-in safety features like over-charge, over-temp, and short-circuit protection.

The best laptop power bank for professional Mac users

8. maxoak k3 36000mah power bank.

For anyone who’s bought into the Apple ecosystem or has multiple Apple devices, the MAXOAK K3 36000mAh Power Bank is the perfect portable solution. Via its DC port and Magsafe 1 and 2 cables, this laptop charger can power up any Apple laptop from 2006 to 2018. And its PD 2.0 Type C port covers any of the newer USB-C-only MacBooks and can charge any laptop equipped with a USB-C port. The type-C port can also be used to charge the power bank if you happen to misplace the MAXOAK charger. If that’s not enough, it fits aesthetically with its silver aluminum shell and rounded edges.

The best 'everything' laptop power bank

9. krisdonia 50000mah laptop power bank.

This incredibly high-capacity laptop power bank might have too much power to take on a flight. However, it’s ideal for long road trips. It’s also incredibly versatile, with 28 different laptop connectors and a Magsafe 2 adapter to accommodate just about any laptop under the sun.

The laptop charger also has a passthrough function that can be easily turned on and off and a LED display that shows the voltage and current battery level. Unfortunately, even though it is the highest capacity charger on this list at 50,000mAh, it can fully charge in 6-8 hours – charging overnight is obligatory.

The best solar-optimized laptop power bank

10. voltaic systems v88 portable laptop power bank.

The Voltaic Systems V88 Portable Laptop Power Bank has all the necessary features that any great laptop power bank should have, including four outputs, passthrough functionality, and an easy-to-read LCD display for monitoring the battery level and voltage.

It’s fairly versatile, including 10 laptop adapters that should cover most users’ needs. At 88Wh, it’s also airplane-friendly. The Voltaic power bank is unique, though, because it’s solar-optimized. This means it works with solar chargers and solar panels when traditional power sources are unavailable.

While those have to be purchased separately, this feature makes the Voltaic Systems V88 particularly useful for those going off-grid.

The InfinityLab InstaGo 5000 has a built-in USB-C connector for Android devices

It's no secret that we spend a lot of time on our phones these days. There's social media, news, productivity, connecting with loved ones and the seemingly unavoidable doomscrolling . All this activity can lead to a quickly dwindling battery. While many Android devices have better battery life than iPhones, they still need a little help on occassion.

If you rely on a  battery case  to keep your phone running, you're not alone. Battery cases are convenient, but they have some drawbacks: Some are bulky and heavy, and they can negatively affect wireless reception at times. That's why nothing beats a dedicated portable charger or power bank that you can store easily and only take out when you absolutely need it. With both wired and wireless models, there's a slew of options when it comes to keeping your Android device going.

To that end, I've rounded up top picks for the best portable charger for Android devices . Although they cost more, I like batteries that have an integrated USB-C output built into them so I don't have to worry about carrying around a charging cable for enough power for my devices. (The models with built-in USB-C cables should also work for iPad Pro devices.) But I've also included some budget picks for those who don't want to shell out as much for portable power and their charging needs. While we have a separate power bank roundup for iPhones , anything here without an integrated USB-C cable will work perfectly well with an iPhone (and non-Pro iPad models), so long as you provide the Lightning cable.

Best power bank with built-in USB-C cable

Infinitylab instago 5000.

Infinity Lab is Samsung-owned Harman Kardon's new accessories subsidiary and I like its InstantGo 5000 and InstantGo 10000 power banks, which come with an integrated USB-C cable for easy charging for iPhones. The larger 10,000-mAh model costs a bit more and is heavier and bulkier, but it can charge most Android smartphones twice. Though the white model is currently unavailable, the black one is in stock.

The InfinityLab InstaGo 5000 has a built-in USB-C connector for Android devices

Best dual iPhone and Android portable charger

Mycharge hub 4400 (no longer available new).

MyCharge's Hub portable chargers come in a few different sizes and not only have an integrated foldable wall plug but integrated Lightning and USB-C cables, so you can charge both Apple and Android devices. It's a little bulky, but with a 4,400-mAh battery, it should be able almost fully charge your smartphone, depending on its size.

The myCharge Hub 4400 has integrated Lighting and USB-C cables

Slim high-capacity battery with USB-C fast charging

Anker 523 powercore slim 10k pd.

The Anker 523 PowerCore Slim 10K PD is impressively slim for a 10,000-mAh portable phone charger and has a fast 20-watt USB-C out charging port (it's also a USB-C input to charge its battery), plus a 12-watt USB-A out port. While the Anker 313 PowerCore Slim 10K is cheaper, the fast USB-C out charging makes spending the extra dough worth it if you have a USB-C to Lightning cable.

Most versatile portable battery

Anker powercore iii 10k portable charger.

The Anker PowerCore III 10K portable charger has fast USB-C out charging (18 watts) as well as a USB-A port and up to 10-watt wireless charging. It's not magnetic, so your phone won't stick to it but it will wirelessly charge any Qi-enabled devices.

anker-powercore-iii-10k-wireless-portable-charger-red-background.png

Compact powerbank with fast charging

Mophie power station mini (2022).

If you're looking for a compact external battery pack for your Android smartphone (or iPhone), Mophie's pocketable Power Station Mini features a 5,000-mAh internal battery and 20-watt USB-C PD fast charging.

For $20 more, you can pick up the 10,000-mAh version with dual USB-C ports -- both come in black or blue colors. Also, note that Zagg, Mophie's parent company, offers a 20% discount off your first purchase, so that model (it's simply called the Power Station) is actually $50.

The new-for-2022 Power Station Mini battery pack for iPhones

Best power bank that's also a 65W charger

Anker 733 power bank.

Thanks to gallium nitride technology, chargers have been getting more powerful while shrinking at the same time. The latest example of that trend is Anker's new line of  GaNPrime chargers  with next-generation GaN 3 technology that the company says is even more energy-efficient. The Anker Power Bank 733, which combines a 65-watt charger with a 10,000-mAh portable battery, is part of the new GaNPrime line . It's pretty compact for what it is and offers two fast-charging USB-C ports and one fast-charging USB-A port. You can charge up to three devices at once, but note that to get a full 65-watt charge for a laptop, you'll have to plug in just the laptop.

Best value wall charger with built-in battery

Anker powercore fusion portable charger.

This Anker model is basically an oversized wall charger with a built-in 5,000-mAh battery. It's got two standard USB charging ports for simultaneously juicing up your phone and a secondary gadget (or two phones). And a little LED indicator on the side lets you check the charge level at the press of a button.

The Anker PowerCore Fusion plugs into a wall outlet but has a built-in battery

Best magnetic power bank with integrated stand

Anker 622 maggo magnetic battery.

What's cool about Anker's 622 magnetic battery is that it's a wireless battery that has an integrated magnetic flap that converts into a stand. You won't get fast wireless charging from this 5,000-mAh battery (it charges at up to 7.5 watts) but it's slim and easy to carry around.

It charges via USB-C and if you use a USB-C to USB-C to charge your Android device (or iPhone), it will charge at a faster rate of 12 watts. That's not as fast as a 20-watt USB-C power adapter, but it's faster than the usual 7.5 watts.

Product image

Mophie Snap Plus Juice Pack Mini

Mophie's magnetic power bank is similar to Anker's but is slightly slimmer (it's svelte for 5,000-mAh battery) and doesn't have an integrated flap that converts into a stand. While it's designed to adhere to the back of MagSafe-enabled iPhone or MagSafe cases, it comes with a "snap adapter" ring to stick onto the back of Android devices so they'll be magnet-friendly.

Wireless charging speeds appear to be limited to 7.5 watts, but if you need a faster charge, you can connect a USB-C to USB-C cable to bump the speed up to 12 watts.

Power bank that converts into wireless charging stand

Otterbox folding wireless power bank (no longer available).

Otterbox gears its Folding Wireless Power Bank toward those who like to watch movies on their phones or play games with a controller. It has a built-in stand that folds down when you take it on the go. It also has USB-C and USB-A ports that are capable of fast-charging your phone at up to 18 watts. The wireless charging is up to 7.5 watts with the iPhone and 10 watts for Android devices.

Portable battery packs compared

We used all the models above in recent anecdotal testing. Each battery pack highlighted above are ones we recommend over the dozens if not hundreds of others currently on sale at Amazon and elsewhere, which is why we zeroed in on a handful of favorite brands: Mophie, MyCharge and Anker, with some notable one-offs from Aukey, Ventev, Moshi and Harman Kardon thrown in for good measure.

What to look for in a battery pack

Here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for a battery pack:

  • A higher power rating (mAh, short for milliamp hours) for a battery pack means more charges -- but also a heavier weight.
  • For the latest Android phones, you should buy a battery with at least a 3,000-mAh capacity, which should give you at least one full charge. With the exception of the Harman Kardon, all the models featured above hit that mark.
  • Multiple USB-out ports will let you charge and recharge more than one phone" target="_blank or device at a time.
  • These products all use lithium-ion (li-ion) rechargeable batteries, and should thus always be stored in carry-on luggage when flying. Airlines and regulatory agencies are increasingly banning li-ion batteries in checked baggage.
  • A few of the battery pack options above are USB-PD (power delivery) models, which provide faster charging of phones with varying battery capacity and other USB-C products that support fast charging. These PD chargers will charge larger USB-C devices (laptops, Nintendo Switch and the like), as well as USB-C enabled iPad Pros, but sometimes at slower rates than larger-wattage wall chargers.

Powerpack Universal

Overall it is great. Simple to use and robust. I have had trouble charging an apple watch via usb where the watch starts charge then for some reason stops. Charging indicators could be clearer also. The brightness of the battery indicator is such that it actually illuminates a room when plugged in to a wall socket at night. An ability to automatically minimise this in low light/darkness would be good.

The Best Portable Laptop Charger

Our three picks for best portable laptop chargers.

A portable laptop charger is the ideal companion if you want to charge your laptop while traveling or working remotely, in an emergency, or anytime a wall outlet is out of reach.

And it’s not just for laptops: With its built-in AC outlet, a laptop charger can power a variety of other devices, from vibrators and video projectors to breast pumps and baby monitors .

We’re confident the Mophie Powerstation Pro AC is the best portable charger with an AC outlet that you can buy. It keeps up with MacBook Pros and other powerful laptops , it has a compact size and shape, and its battery life is as good as any we’ve tested.

Everything we recommend

best travel adapter powerbank

Mophie Powerstation Pro AC

Powerful and packable.

This portable charger has an AC outlet, two fast-charging USB-C ports, and a USB-A port, and it can charge even the most power-hungry laptops while they’re in use. But you need to provide your own wall charger.

Buying Options

Budget pick.

best travel adapter powerbank

ChargeTech Premium 27K AC

Less expensive, fewer ports.

This more affordable charger has a fast-charging USB-C port, a standard USB-A port, and an AC outlet that cranked out an impressive 157 W of power in our testing. Plus, it comes with a wall charger.

best travel adapter powerbank

Omnicharge Omni 20+

Less power, more charging options.

This compact, lightweight charger supports wireless charging and has an easy-to-read screen. It’s not as powerful as our other picks and doesn’t come with a wall charger, but it recharges via most USB-C or DC chargers.

The Mophie Powerstation Pro AC has the best AC output (174 watts) and as much capacity (27,000 mAh) of any model we’ve tested.

It’s also the only one we’ve tested with two USB-C ports—one has 63 W input and 62 W output capabilities, and the other only outputs at 24 W—and its two-year warranty is the longest of those we tested.

On the downside, it’s the heaviest option we tested at 2.2 pounds, it only has one USB-A port, it doesn’t come with a wall charger, and it’s on the pricier side ($200 at this writing). But its higher output and dual USB-C ports make it well worth the splurge.

Rated capacity: 27,000 mAh (97.2 Wh) Max output: 174 W Weight: 2.2 pounds Dimensions: 7.5 by 4.5 by 1.0 inches

The ChargeTech Premium 27K AC performed well in our testing, with a maximum output of 157 watts and a rated capacity of 27,000 mAh.

It’s also the only model we tested with a USB-C port that’s powerful enough to fast-charge the 13″ MacBook Air (we measured 65 W input and 67 W output). Unlike our top pick, it can be recharged over DC as well as USB-C, it’s fairly light (1.5 pounds), and it’s the least expensive of those we tested ($185 at this writing).

However, it has just one USB-C port and one USB-A port, its one-year warranty is on the shorter side, and it feels a little chintzy overall. Also, the DC charger it comes with is bulky and won’t fit in the included carrying pouch. But overall, it’s a great option if you’re on a tight budget.

Rated capacity: 27,000 mAh (97.2 Wh) Max output: 157 W Weight: 1.5 pounds Dimensions: 7.3 by 5.0 by 1.0 inches

If you have a phone or other device that can charge wirelessly, the Omnicharge Omni 20+ is the only one of our picks with wireless charging capabilities. It’s also one of the few models we’ve seen with dual input options (you can recharge it over DC or USB-C), as well as a screen showing input/output wattage, charge level, and operating temperature.

The Omnicharge is the lightest (1.4 pounds) and most compact of our picks, and it looks sleeker than most models, with rounded corners that make it comfortable to handle.

If you want those extra features and maximum portability, this is your best option, but this charger also has the lowest output (98 watts) and capacity of any of our picks, and it’s the most expensive at this writing. And although it comes with USB-A and USB-C cables, the package has neither a case nor a wall charger. Like the ChargeTech, this model is backed by a one-year warranty.

Rated capacity: 20,400 mAh (73.4 Wh) Max output: 98 W Weight: 1.4 pounds Dimensions: 5.0 by 4.8 by 1.1 inches

The research

Why you should trust us, who this is for, how we picked and tested, our pick: mophie powerstation pro ac, budget pick: chargetech premium 27k ac, also great: omnicharge omni 20+, other good portable laptop chargers.

I’ve been a science journalist for more than seven years, covering a wide variety of topics from particle physics to satellite remote sensing. Since joining Wirecutter in 2017, I’ve reported on solar battery chargers , USB-C cables and adapters , rechargeable AA and AAA batteries , and more. I spent 29 hours researching and 82 hours testing portable laptop chargers for this guide alone.

For a previous version of this guide, I consulted with Lee Johnson, an electrical engineer with more than 15 years of experience designing and testing electronics.

Portable laptop chargers aren’t just for laptops. Since they’re power banks with AC outlets, they can provide power to virtually any device that draws up to about 100 watts—such as a room fan, floor lamp, air mattress pump, or ice cream maker.

But since most people who buy these chargers are mainly looking to charge their laptops while working remotely, we wrote this guide with them in mind. (If you need only USB-C and USB-A ports, our favorite USB power banks are powerful enough to charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro , an  HP Spectre x360 , or other laptops that charge via USB-C.)

Even someone who is rarely away from their desk might want a portable laptop charger in case of a blackout or other emergency. A portable laptop charger will provide more power in that scenario than a USB power bank.

If you want to charge lots of different devices, or a single power-hungry device, for more than a few hours—or if you have critical electronics that require a pure sine wave inverter, such as a CPAP machine—you should get a portable power station . Generally speaking, these have more capacity, power, and ports than most portable laptop chargers, and they’re more ruggedly built (but they also tend to be bulkier, heavier, and more expensive).

Testing of the Omnicharge Omni 20+ portable charger.

After scanning the websites of major retailers and consumer-electronics brands, we narrowed our search based on the following requirements:

  • 65-watt or greater output: Most laptops (larger business and gaming laptops aside) need about 60 W to charge at full speed, so we set our minimum limit at 65 W just to be safe.
  • 60 to 300 watt-hour capacity: TSA regulations generally only permit you to carry spare batteries up to 100 Wh on a plane—or, with airline permission, either one battery up to 300 Wh or two batteries up to 160 Wh each. Since some people like to work or watch movies on their laptop on long flights, we capped our capacity limit at 300 Wh to account for this restriction. We set our minimum at 60 Wh because that’s equivalent to running a 60 W device (such as a 13-inch MacBook Pro) for one hour.
  • Light and compact design: We gave preference to smaller, lighter models since they’re easier to bring to a coffee shop or on a plane.
  • At least one fast-charging port: USB-C Power Delivery (PD) ports are starting to replace older USB-C and USB-A ports, in part because they can transmit up to 100 W (compared with just 15 W over standard USB-C and 12 W over USB-A). This means, with the right cable, they can charge a laptop or other compatible device about as fast as an AC outlet would.
  • At least one USB-A port: Even though USB-C is becoming more common, most people still have standard USB-A charging cables, so we insisted that our picks have at least one USB-A port.
  • Reliable support: If you’re spending hundreds of dollars on something and depending on it in tight situations, you want to know that the manufacturer is reputable and reachable in case something goes wrong.
  • A cost of no more than $300: Based on the range of prices we saw, this is what we think someone would reasonably want to spend on a work-related purchase.

Close-up of person putting a portable charger in a backpack.

To test each charger, we gauged performance in a few key areas, including the following:

  • Maximum power output: To test the maximum power output of each model, we connected each one to a Kill A Watt power meter and an array of light-bulb sockets. We screwed in 20 W halogen bulbs one by one until the charger overloaded and shut down. Then we recorded the maximum wattage reading on the power meter.
  • How many times each charger could recharge a laptop: We started with a fully depleted 2015 13-inch MacBook Air and a fully charged portable laptop charger. Once the charger had juiced the laptop enough for it to power on, we maxed out the screen brightness and played a loop of high-resolution railway footage on YouTube . We let it run until the portable charger died or the laptop reached a full charge. If the laptop reached 100% before the portable charger died, we fully drained the laptop again and repeated the test with the partially charged portable charger to find the combined total number of recharges.
  • Ability to charge a 15-inch MacBook: To make sure all of the chargers could power a large, high-powered laptop, we connected them to a 15-inch MacBook Pro that normally uses an 87 W power adapter and checked the Mac System Report to make sure it wasn’t struggling to get enough power.
  • Look and feel: We picked the chargers up, stuffed them into a crammed backpack, and carried them around to see how they would fit into our lives. We also assessed extra features, such as a screen or battery-status lights.

Our pick for best portable laptop charger, the Mophie Powerstation Pro AC.

The Mophie Powerstation Pro AC is the best portable charger with an AC outlet for people who want to charge a laptop (or other devices drawing up to 100 W) while on the go. It’s supremely powerful, has great battery life, and it’s the only model we’ve tested with multiple fast-charging USB-C PD ports as well as a standard USB-A port.

It supplies a lot of power. This Mophie model has the best AC output of the models we’ve tested, cranking out 174 W to our array of halogen bulbs . This is more than enough power to charge most laptops while they’re in use, even heavy-duty business or gaming laptops.

It has great battery life. With a rated capacity of 27,000 mAh (or about 97.2 Wh), the Mophie comes very close to the TSA’s maximum capacity limit for spare batteries without exceeding it. So, if you like using your laptop on long flights, rest assured that you can bring it on a plane in your carry-on luggage.

In our testing, this model was able to charge our test laptop 1.9 times. In other words, it fully charged our MacBook Air once, and then (after fully depleting the laptop’s battery) brought it from 0% to about a 90% charge.

It charges and recharges fast. To recharge itself, the Mophie has a USB-C PD port rated for 60 W input and output. We confirmed these optimal charging speeds in our testing, measuring up to 63 W in and 62 W out.

The unit also has a second, slightly less-powerful USB-C PD port, which is handy for charging a phone or other small device. We measured a maximum output of 24 W from this port in our testing, which is more than enough power to charge the latest iPhones at top speed.

It’s about the size of a paperback. Measuring 7.5 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide, and 1 inch thick, the Mophie has a compact size and shape that’s easy to slip into a backpack or nestle inside a suitcase.

Close-up of ports on the Mophie Powerstation Pro AC, showing the protective flap of the main outlet.

It has a sleek look and excellent build quality. Batteries are rarely beautiful, but this one has a streamlined, professional look. It’ll blend into its surroundings, whether you’re working out of a high-rise building or an RV.

Unlike our other picks, it has a rubber cover over the AC outlet, which is useful for keeping out moisture and dust that could damage the internal components. Helpfully, the cover is attached by a small tether so you won’t lose it.

Also, one of the corners has an attached nylon strap that’s useful to loop around a few fingers while you’re carrying it to prevent drops.

The entire unit is encased in a matte-black metal shell that seems relatively resistant to scratches and scuffs, and it feels solidly built overall.

It has a longer warranty than other options. Made by a company we trust, this charger is backed by a two-year warranty, which is longer than the coverage on any of our other picks.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • It’s one of the heaviest models we’ve tested, at 2.2 pounds. But it’s still quite portable, weighing about as much as a 1-liter bottle of water .
  • It doesn’t come with a wall charger (just a USB-C charging cable) so you’ll have to supply your own. But that’s true of most available models.
  • It has only one USB-A port, whereas most we tested have two. But since it has two USB-C ports, both of which charge phones and other handheld devices faster than any USB-A port, this is a tiny quibble.
  • It’s on the pricier side ($200 at this writing), but its higher output and dual USB-C ports make it well worth the splurge.

Our budget pick for best portable laptop charger, the ChargeTech Premium 27K AC.

If you want to save a few bucks without losing many of the features or capabilities of our top pick, get the ChargeTech Premium 27K AC .

It has plenty of power. Like our top pick, this model can charge even large, professional-grade laptops without breaking a sweat. In our testing, we measured a peak-power output of 157 W (not far behind that of our top pick) from its AC outlet.

It’s also the only model we tested with a USB-C PD port that's powerful enough to fast-charge the latest MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models : We measured a maximum output of 67 W.

Like our top pick, the ChargeTech has a single USB-A port, which is handy for charging a phone, wireless headphones, or other small device—albeit more slowly than a USB-C port.

It has great battery life. Just like our top pick, the ChargeTech has a rated capacity of 27,000 mAh, and it performed just as well as that model in our capacity tests.

It has multiple recharging options. Unlike our top pick, the ChargeTech can be recharged over DC as well as USB-C. While we didn’t test its DC input capabilities, we measured up to 65 W flowing into the USB-C PD port (meaning it can recharge itself a bit faster than our top pick).

It’s small and lightweight. Weighing just 1.5 pounds (about as heavy as a bottle of beer ) and about the same size and shape as our top pick, the ChargeTech is highly portable.

Its warranty is on the shorter side. ChargeTech backs this model with a one-year warranty, which is shorter than that of our top pick, but it should still give you plenty of time to use your unit and ensure it’s not a dud.

It comes with a charger, but it’s bulky. Unlike our other picks, the ChargeTech helpfully comes with its own charger. However, the proprietary DC charger has a fat plug that takes up a lot of space in a bag (and, annoyingly, the power bank and its charger don’t fit in the included soft pouch).

It’s inexpensive (and it shows). As one of the least expensive portable chargers we’ve tested ($185 at this writing), the ChargeTech feels a little chintzy overall. So if build quality is important to you, go with one of our other picks.

Our also great pick for best portable laptop charger, the Omnicharge Omni 20+.

The Omnicharge Omni 20+ is one of very few available options with wireless charging, as well as a screen showing helpful information like input/output power and operating temperature. It is pricey and has less capacity and output power than our other picks, but it’s your best bet if you want these features.

It can charge your phone wirelessly. This unit also has a Qi wireless-charging feature (though it’s not certified by the Wireless Power Consortium , which we’d prefer for confirmation of safety and optimal performance) that you can use to charge some phones and other devices.

It’s exceptionally compact and lightweight. The Omnicharge is about the size of a bagel or kaiser roll. It has a square shape with gently rounded corners that make it easier to hold or to stuff into a bag. And at 1.4 pounds, it’s the lightest of our picks.

It has well-spaced ports. The ports on this unit are widely spaced, leaving ample room for multiple plugs.

It has an AC outlet on one side, and USB-C PD and DC input/output ports on another. On a third side, you’ll find two USB-A output ports, an OLED display screen, and control buttons to toggle various ports on and off.

It has an upscale, professional look. Its outer shell is made of a soft-textured plastic that’s grippy and comfortable to hold, and it seems relatively scratch and scuff resistant. After you handle it for a while, its surface is likely to gain some fingerprints, however.

Its screen is bright and informative, if sometimes cluttered. When you’re recharging the unit, it displays a large battery icon to show how much charge it has, which is clear and helpful.

But when you’re using it to charge another device, the screen offers so much data—wattage, voltage, temperature, percentage charged, and what ports are currently powered on—that the display can feel cluttered, making it harder to glean key info at a glance.

Capacity and output are on the low side, but sufficient for most needs. In our testing, the Omnicharge topped out at 98 W of power output—less than our other picks, but still plenty of power to charge most laptops while they’re in use.

It brought our MacBook Air from no charge to 80% charged, which again was less than our other picks managed, but not by much.

It comes with cables, but not a wall charger. The Omnicharge comes with both USB-A and USB-C cables, but you’ll have to supply your own wall charger . Since most laptops are powered by a USB-C or DC wall charger, you might already have one on hand that’s compatible with this unit.

If you don’t already have a suitable charger, Omnicharge sells one separately that we’ve used and like enough to recommend. It comes with a 3-foot charging cable, has two USB-C PD ports and a USB-A port, and can supply up to 65 W to a single device or 60 W split between multiple devices. It’s also compact, lightweight, and has a convenient fold-up plug (though you can typically get one of our favorite wall chargers for less).

I ts ports aren’t protected . We wish this unit came with a rubber flap over its ports to protect its internal components against dust and minor spills, as several other models we’ve tested do.

For added peace of mind, Omnicharge sells a clamshell-style case that we’ve packed on numerous weekend trips and workations to protect the unit from scuffs and scratches. (If you want the case, wall charger, charging cable, and portable laptop charger, all four items are also sold as a bundle for $300 at this writing.)

Product support is solid. Its one-year warranty isn’t as long as that of our top pick, but we still think the coverage is long enough for you to fully test the charger and confirm that it doesn’t have a problem. Customer service is responsive, too.

It’s not cheap. At this writing, the Omnicharge is one of our more expensive picks. But as the brand’s name suggests, this model also offers the most charging options.

If you don’t mind buying a discontinued product : Get the Anker PowerHouse 100 or Mophie Powerstation AC . Both are former top picks, but since they’re discontinued they may be difficult to find. They’re still being sold by some retailers, though, and either would be a great substitute if our current top pick becomes unavailable—or if you see a good deal.

The Anker has a maximum output of 141 W, a 27,000 mAh rated capacity, a USB-C PD port, two USB-A ports, and an AC outlet.

It comes with a 45 W wall charger, USB-C cable, USB-A cable, and a protective cloth carrying case.

It’s intuitive to use, ruggedly built, and easily packable, weighing just 1.9 pounds.

The Mophie, meanwhile, has a peak-power output of 123 W, a 22,000 mAh capacity rating, a USB-C PD port, a USB-A port, and an AC outlet.

It doesn’t come with any accessories, but it’s super compact, weighing just 1.7 pounds. Plus, it’s covered in a soft twill fabric that we love .

If you're willing to pay top dollar for more charging and recharging options, plus an informative screen : Get the Goal Zero New Sherpa 100AC Power Bank . It's expensive, heavy, and lacks premium features like port covers or an included wall charger. But it’s as powerful as any of our picks, has decent battery life, offers the greatest variety of charging/recharging options of the chargers we tested, and it’s one of the few models with a screen.

With a rated capacity of 25,600 mAh, it brought our test laptop from empty to full one time.

It has one AC outlet (100 W output), two USB-C PD ports (one with 100 W output, the other with 60 W output, and both with 60 W input), two USB-A ports (both with 12 W output), a wireless charging pad (15 W output), and a solar-charging port (60 W input).

It comes with a three-foot USB-C cable, though to recharge the unit you’ll need to pair it with a USB-C charger or portable solar battery charger (both are sold separately).

It’s ruggedly built (a cushiony neoprene sleeve is also sold separately), and its angled screen is bright and easy to read.

On the downside, it weighs 2.1 pounds, it’s not especially sleek-looking, and it’s the costliest model we tested ($300 at this writing).

If there is a silver lining to the removal of chargers from smartphone retail boxes, it’s the freedom to choose a power brick that best suits your collection of gadgets. As we carry and use more battery-powered devices than ever, your phone charger doesn’t just have to top up your phone. It can also charge your laptop, power bank , smartwatch , tablet , wireless earbuds , and other mobile accessories.

However, getting the right phone charger can be tricky, given the different fast charging standards used by different manufacturers. For example, if you own a Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy phone , you'll need a charger that not only supports USB Power Delivery (USB PD) but also Programmable Power Supply (PPS). Similarly, some smartphones rely on Qualcomm’s QuickCharge fast charging protocol, whereas others, like OnePlus, have proprietary standards.

Moreover, those wanting a multi-port power brick or one that can juice up their USB PD-compatible laptop also need to account for which USB ports they need or the output wattage of the charger. To help with your search, we have rounded up a wide range of power bricks that support different fast charging protocols, have different number of USB ports, and have different wattages. These chargers are ideal for charging existing and upcoming smartphones, laptops, tablets, and other devices that draw power from a USB port.

For the moment, at least, the Anker 313 stands out as the only charger that supports Samsung’s 45W Super Fast Charging technology. It’s, therefore, an ideal match for the Galaxy S-series Plus and Ultra models that boast 45W charging support, such as the Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra. It can also top up any USB PD, PPS, or QuickCharge compatible device, including most Qualcomm-powered Android phones, iPhones, Pixels, and Chromebooks.

This Shargeek 140W PD 3.1 GaN Charger is a premium charger in every respect. As its name says, it's a GaN charger with support for USB PD 3.1 and a max output of 140W. It's capable of charging up to three devices simultaneously, including two laptops. And if you're a frequent traveler, the Shargeek charger comes with removable adapters for Australia, Europe, and the UK, and has foldable pins to make it easy to store.

Apart from its excellent 65W charger, Nekteck also offers this great USB-C power brick that’s great for charging both regular USB-PD and PPS devices. It can deliver up to 45W power and even works with Samsung’s 45W Super Fast Charging. Unfortunately, the Nekteck power brick features a permanently attached USB-C cable. While it’s convenient, it can also be problematic if it stops working and you need to replace it. In that case, you’ll have to change the entire power brick.

The Ugreen Nexode Mini 30W USB-C Charger is a perfect travel companion, thanks to its small size and foldable pins. More importantly, it doesn’t just support the USB PD and PPS protocols; it can also fast charge using QuickCharge 4 and Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging (AFC), which makes it a solid option for a vast number of devices. In other features, it packs multiple safety systems, including Ugreen’s Thermal Guard technology, so you never have to worry about charging safety.

If you want an additional or replacement power brick for your OnePlus phone, there is no better option than the official OnePlus SuperVOOC 100W charger. Besides SuperVOOC, the OnePlus charger supports USB PD, PPS, and QuickCharge protocol, making it suitable for any smartphone. It has two USB ports, of which the Type-C can push up to 100W power, and the Type-A port tops out at 30W. Another benefit of getting it is the included 10A USB cable.

The AOHI Magcube 65W offers all the essential features of a high-quality, compact PPS charger. It ensures super-quick charging rates for your Google and Samsung smartphones, and it's equally fast for fast-charging iPhones, iPads, and numerous USB Power Delivery laptops. Additionally, this charger is compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge (QC) 4+, making it suitable for devices equipped with QC fast-charging capabilities.

This 140W charger from Baseus offers dual USB-C outputs as well as an additional USB-A port. It supports PD 3.1 for super fast charging and upgraded GaN 5 technology that keeps the unit cool while reducing power consumption by 25%. It's smaller and lighter than others in its category and can easily handle the charging necessities of laptops, tablets, and phones, even simultaneously! Of course, the charger supports PPS charging, making it efficient and compatible with just about any modern device you might own.

CMF — the value-focused sub-brand from upstart tech company Nothing — doesn't just produce accessories for existing Nothing products. This 65W GaN charger supports a wide range of charging protocols including PD 3.0, Quick Charge 4.0+, and PPS. Despite its small form factor, it has two USB-C ports and a USB-A port, so you can simultaneously charge three devices, including earbuds and smartwatches. It also has an intelligent power distribution chip that ensures voltage and current are evenly distributed among the ports.

Satechi's power brick serves as an ideal desktop charging hub for USB-C gadgets. Featuring, count them, six Type-C ports, it allows you to charge all your devices simultaneously. Notably, Satechi uses gallium nitride instead of silicon, which ensures cooler charging temperatures, even during simultaneous charging. Furthermore, it can supply 140W of power through its PD1 and PD2 ports. Lastly, Satechi includes a compact plastic stand, perfect for conveniently positioning the brick on your busy desk.

If you're looking for a high-speed charger, the Anker 747 is a fantastic option with support for 150W charging across its four ports. The charger supports all major standards, including PPS, and can output up to 100W over USB-C. Three USB-C ports and a single USB-A port guarantee charging versatility. Anker even bundles in a silicone stabilizer for added stability when connected to a wall outlet.

In search of a fun desk accessory and a fast USB-C charger rolled into one? Look no further than the UGreen RG 65W Nexode. The GaN charger sports two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. With support for up to 65W output from a single port, the UGreen RG 65W can comfortably top up even demanding devices like laptops. Add to that an LCD screen that can create different facial expressions corresponding to battery levels, and you've got one of the coolest chargers around.

With three USB-C ports and a 67W power output, this Belkin USB-C Wall Charger has much to like. Each of its Type-C ports can deliver 67W power when used individually, and it comes with support for USB PD 3.1 and PPS protocols. In other highlights, the Belkin charger is relatively slim and features foldable prongs for easy packing. It’s also made from over 72% post-consumer recycled materials.

The Zendure Passport III makes for an outstanding travel companion. This many-a-port wall adapter boasts one USB-A and four USB-C ports, alongside a versatile AC outlet for powering additional devices or appliances. Furthermore, it offers three distinct plug choices that adapt to outlets in more than 200 countries. Regrettably, it's worth noting that only the USB-C port on the side is optimized for high-speed charging.

Samsung shines as one of the few smartphone manufacturers to support PPS charging technology. It's no shocker that the company provides a 45W PPS charger, ideally suited for their Galaxy S-series smartphones and Tab S-series tablets. However, even if you don't own a Samsung phone, this charger remains fully compatible with various devices, including Google Pixel phones and iPhones. Cyclops-like, the charger has a single USB-C port.

Don’t let the looks of this pocket-sized Voltme charger fool you. This discreet-looking charger rapidly charges most PPS-supported Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones. It's equally effective for charging iPhones, iPads, and any other device utilizing the USB PD standard, including the MacBook Air. Its compact size is achieved using gallium nitride (GaN) instead of silicon, which also helps maintain relatively low charging temperatures.

Featuring support for QuickCharge 3.0, the Motorola TurboPower 20 is a great option for any smartphone with Qualcomm’s fast charging protocol. It can deliver up to 20W power and has a single USB Type-A port. The company also supplies a USB Type-A to Type-C cable in the box. While the Motorola charger has a compact form factor, it doesn’t come with a foldable plug.

What do USB PD, PPS, GaN, and more mean?

While shopping for a phone charger, one has to deal with a ton of jargon. Here’s a quick explanation of a few common terms to help you better understand them.

  • USB Power Delivery: USB Power Delivery or USB PD is one of the fast-charging standards that has gained serious recognition over the last few years. It comes from the folks responsible for maintaining the USB standard: USB Implementers Forum or USB-IF. USB PD is excellent, and its latest Extended Power Range (EPR) specification supports up to 240W of power to mobile devices through the USB standard. That said, EPR chargers and cables are still some time away from widespread availability. You will more commonly find up to 100W/140W power bricks.
  • PPS : PPS was introduced as a supplemental specification to the USB PD 3.0 standard to offer step-wise voltage variation. As a result, PPS allows devices to request a specific voltage and current from the charger to optimize battery charging time. Consequently, reduced power conversion loss and heat dissipation improve long-term battery health. This likely explains why manufacturers like Google and Samsung incorporate PPS technology into their smartphones and tablets.
  • Qualcomm QuickCharge : QuickCharge is a proprietary fast charging protocol developed by Qualcomm. It’s not as popular as USB PD but can still be found in some mobile devices from Asus, Motorola, Xiaomi, and others. Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 is the newest iteration of this protocol and supports over 100W fast charging.
  • Samsung Super Fast Charging: The Samsung Super Fast Charging is the South Korean tech giant’s fast charging technology based on USB PD and PPS standards. Its latest version, Super Fast Charging 2.0, supports up to 45W fast charging.
  • GaN : GaN or Gallium Nitride is a material used to construct the chips in some chargers. It replaces silicon, which has been a go-to material for the same until a few years ago. There are several benefits of using GaN over silicon. For example, it produces less heat because of its enhanced efficiency. So, different charger components can be placed closer to each other without worrying about them harming each other because of heat. This results in more compact chargers. GaN also has better heat resistance. Simply put, GaN phone chargers are more efficient and compact than their non-GaN cousins.

Which fast charging protocol does your phone use?

While practically any charger can juice up your phone, guaranteeing fast charging, especially with a conventional power brick, is uncertain. To ensure rapid, energy-efficient charging, check to see if your phone supports one of the modern power standards, then purchase an accessory with the protocol built-in.

Below, we'll explore the fast-charging protocols commonly employed by smartphone manufacturers and the corresponding charging speeds you can anticipate.

  • Samsung : The company uses Samsung Super Fast Charging and Samsung Super Fast Charging 2.0 technologies. Most Samsung phones have 25W fast charging support, but some flagships also support 45W charging.
  • Google : Pixel phones use USB PD with PPS, with fast charging speeds ranging from 18W to 30W.
  • Motorola : The company’s TurboPower fast charging technology uses both Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 and USB PD, depending on the phone. The top charging speeds range from 18W to 68W. If your Motorola phone supports higher than 20W charging, there is an excellent chance its TurboPower module is using USB PD instead of QuickCharge 3.0.
  • OnePlus : The OnePlus phones employ SuperVOOC and WarpCharge fast charging protocols, with top speeds going up to 125W. There is also support for USB PD, but you’ll likely get anywhere from 10W to 30W, depending on your phone.
  • Asus : ROG phone models use USB PD 3.0 and Qualcomm QuickCharge 5.0 with a top speed of 65W. However, ZenFone models use QuickCharge 4.0 or USB PD and PPS with a top speed of 30W.
  • Sony : USB PD with a top speed of 30W
  • Apple : iPhones also use USB PD with an official top speed of 20W.

Choosing the right charger for your phone

Popular accessory manufacturers offer a great selection of wired chargers for smartphones. You can pick a suitable option based on the fast charging protocol used by your phone, tablet, and other mobile devices.

Among our recommendations, the Anker 313 Charger is perfect for Apple, Google, and Samsung smartphone owners. It can deliver up to 45W power and has a single USB Type-C port. You can also use it to top up any tablets and laptops that use the USB PD technology.

But if you want a multiport charger with high wattage output, the Shargeek 140W PD3.1 GaN Charger is an excellent option. It features three USB ports, including a Type-A, to offer up to 140W power. It also uses GaN transistors, supports USB PD 3.1, PPS, and QuickCharge 4+, and has swappable plugs for international travel.

Value-conscious buyers will appreciate the 45W USB-C PD Charger from Nekteck. It supports 45W charging and is USB-IF certified. However, that permanently attached USB-C cable is a problem, as you will have to replace the entire unit if the cable gets damaged.

While your budget might hold you back, try to buy a charger with a detachable cable and invest in a quality USB-C cable , as 5A USB-C cables are a requirement to enjoy PPS and 100W fast charging. Your smartphone will thank you, not in words, but by charging faster and wasting less energy.
