Foreigner

Forty-five years after it felt like the first time for Foreigner, the veteran rock troupe is planning to tour for the very last time.

The Rock Hall of Fame 2022 Induction Ceremony: 10 Best Moments

The band, formed during 1976 by British guitarist Mick Jones, will launch its Historic Farewell Tour next July 6 in Alpharetta, Ga., with 32 U.S dates running through Sept. 3 in Holmdel, N.J. Loverboy will be opening. More legs, both domestic and overseas, are on tap through the end of 2024.

“Foreigner is a completely revitalized band with a whole new energy that has won the hearts of our fans all over the world, and I want to go out while the band is still at the top of its game,” Jones, 77, tells Billboard . “I had the idea that was to become Foreigner back in 1974, and I was 30 years old at the time. By the end of our farewell tour, over 50 years will have passed, and that’s a long time to be on the road.”

Trending on Billboard

“We’re at an era in life where a lot of bands from the ’70s are right on the ragged edge of still being able to do shows. I see other musicians sometimes that I go, ‘Wow, that was disappointing,’ and I don’t want to be someone that other people say that about. I want to do this band the way it’s supposed to be, and when it’s not like that I don’t want to be doing it.”

Since its formation, Foreigner has released nine studio albums — five of them multi-platinum, plus the 1982 hits set Records — and sold more than 50 million records worldwide. It’s also notched nine top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including rock radio staples such as “Feels Like the First Time,” “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Urgent” and the chart-topping power ballad “I Want to Know What Love Is.” More than two dozen members have been part of the roster over the years, and members of the first two lineups made a series of guest appearances with the current lineup during 2017 and 2018.

Foreigner has a number of concerts scheduled this month and also in the spring, prior to the farewell tour launch — including March and April residencies at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Hansen adds that while Foreigner is calling a halt to touring it may not go away entirely. “I’m sure there might be the odd or occasional things we do,” the frontman says. “You can never say never about things. But for me this (tour) is it. It’s not like one of these, like we’ve seen, ploys to get people out to shows.”

Both Hansen and Jeff Pilson, Foreigner’s bassist since 2004, say that Foreigner – whose last studio album, Can’t Slow Down , came out in 2009 — may release some new music in the near future, too. “There’s a whole bunch of stuff in different stages of completion, so that’s not outside the realm of possibility,” Hansen predicts. Pilson says that Jones has been writing material with Marti Frederiksen that he expects the band to work on at some point.

“There’s probably four I’m aware of that are close, and some other snippets,” Pilson says. “Chances are there won’t be a whole new (album). I can see some new songs being added to some kind of a package or some kind of a single. I definitely see some new material coming, hopefully within the next year. We don’t need new material, but it’s always nice to have.”

Foreigner will try to find out what love is one last time, with the veteran arena rock heroes announcing a farewell tour for 2023.

The run is set to kick off July 6 at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Atlanta, with dates scheduled through the summer, wrapping Sept. 3 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. Eighties favorites and perennial weekend warriors Loverboy will provide support throughout the trek.

Tickets for all shows are set to go on sale Nov. 18. Complete information is available on Foreigner ’s website .

As Billboard reports, next summer’s tour will just be the first part of Foreigner’s long goodbye. The group will announce additional North American and overseas dates soon, with plans to tour through the end of 2024.

Foreigner formed in New York City back in 1976 when Jones linked up with former King Crimson multi-instrumentalist, Ian McDonald, and vocalist Lou Gramm. The group released their self-titled debut in 1977, scoring a pair of career-defining singles from the start: “Feels Like the First Time” and “Cold as Ice.”

The group’s success continued through the late Seventies and into the Eighties with hits like “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Urgent,” and “Juke Box Hero.” In 1984 they finally notched their first and only Number One in the United States with the iconic power ballad, “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

For Aerosmith fans who’ve followed the band for more than five decades, talk about “Sweet Emotion.”

Aerosmith announced Monday a 40-date farewell tour this fall, including a Nov. 7 stop at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

The band’s “Peace Out” tour, its 10th worldwide tour, kicks off Sept. 2 in Philadelphia and wraps up Jan. 26 in Montreal. The band also has Texas stops in Austin (Oct. 23 at the Moody Center) and San Antonio (Nov. 1 at AT&T Arena).

“It’s not goodbye, it’s peace out!” said a statement attributed to the band. “Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives.”

Tickets for all dates go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday . The Black Crowes will open the Live Nation-produced event.

“I think it’s about time,” guitarist Joe Perry said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Perry told The AP that it’s time to say goodbye, especially with every founding band member over the age of 70. Steven Tyler, 75, is the oldest in the group.

”It’s kind of a chance to celebrate the 50 years we’ve been out here,” Perry said. “You never know how much longer everybody’s going to be healthy to do this. … It’s been a while since we’ve actually done a real tour. We did that run in Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but [we’re] kind of anxious to get back on the road.”

Aerosmith has collected four Grammy awards. The band intersected rock and hip-hop with their 1986 collaboration with Run-DMC for “Walk This Way” and appearance in the Wayne’s World 2 (1993).

”We’re opening up Pandora’s Box one last time to present our fans with the Peace Out tour,” frontman Tyler said in a statement to the AP.

Tyler’s “Pandora’s Box” reference calls out Aerosmith’s 1991 three-disc compilation album that covered the band’s output from the 1970s to the early 1980s.

Given space between tour dates, it’s possible that other stops will be added, Perry said.

”It’s the final farewell tour, but I have a feeling it will go on for a while,” he told AP. “But I don’t know how many times we’ll be coming back to the same cities. It could very possibly be the last time.”

In its statement, the band also said founding member Joey Kramer will be absent from the upcoming tour to focus on his family and health.

“Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed,” the statement read.

According to Variety , Aerosmith’s last tour before a multi-year Las Vegas engagement was a 24-date global run in 2017-18 that included three shows in the U.S.

Aerosmith formed in Boston in 1970. The band has played Dallas dozens of times, including as featured performers at the Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl.

DALLAS - Aerosmith will be coming to Dallas for the last time to celebrate the rock band's 50-plus years together.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band announced Monday the dates for their farewell tour called "Peace Out" starting Sept. 2 in Philadelphia. The 40-date run of shows, which includes a stop in the band’s hometown of Boston on New Year’s Eve, will end Jan. 26 in Montreal.

"I think it’s about time," guitarist Joe Perry said.

The group will make its stop at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Nov. 7. They will also be making stops in Austin on Oct. 23 and San Antonio on Nov. 1.

Perry said the group, with frontman Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer and guitarist Brad Whitford, learned from the staging and production from their recent Las Vegas residency shows.

Perry believes the time to say goodbye is now, especially with every founding band member over the age of 70. Tyler, 75, is the oldest in the group.

"It’s kind of a chance to celebrate the 50 years we’ve been out here," Perry said. "You never know how much longer everybody’s going to be healthy to do this. … It’s been a while since we’ve actually done a real tour. We did that run in Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but (we're) kind of anxious to get back on the road."

Tyler and Perry said the band is looking forward to digging into their lengthy catalog of the group’s rock classics including "Crazy," "Janie’s Got a Gun" and "Livin’ on the Edge."

Over the years, Aerosmith, which formed in 1970, has collected four Grammys. The band broke boundaries intersecting rock and hip-hop with their epic collaboration with Run-DMC for "Walk This Way."

Aerosmith performed the Super Bowl halftime show in 2001 and even had their own theme park attraction in 1999 at Disney World in Florida and later in Paris with the launch of the "Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith" ride.

"We’re opening up Pandora’s Box one last time to present our fans with the Peace Out tour," Tyler said in a statement to The Associated Press. His "Pandora's Box" reference calls out Aerosmith's 1991 three-disc compilation album that covered the band's output from the 1970s to the early 1980s.

"Be there or beware as we bring all the toys out of the attic. Get ready," Tyler added.

A decade of farewells: 20 notable deaths in the 10 years leading up to 2020

We said farewell to many legends in music, film, fashion and more in the 2010s.

The band said Kramer decided to not take part in the current dates on the upcoming tour. He’s still a part of the group, but the drummer has been on leave to "focus his attention on his family and health" since their Vegas residency last year. Drummer John Douglas will continue to play in his place.

Perry called Kramer their brother. The band said his "legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed."

Before the 40-date tour wraps, Perry said other cities domestically and internationally could be added.

"It’s the final farewell tour, but I have a feeling it will go on for a while," he said. "But I don’t know how many times we’ll be coming back to the same cities. It could very possibly be the last time."

Foreigner to Launch Historic Farewell Tour In 2023 — 'Very Difficult Decision,' Says Kelly Hansen

"I see other musicians sometimes that I go, 'Wow, that was disappointing,' and I don't want to be someone that other people say that about," frontman Kelly Hansen told Billboard of aging acts

Ryan Parker is the former Senior News Editor, Weekends for PEOPLE. He left PEOPLE in 2023.

The iconic rockers of Foreigner announced on Monday that their touring days are almost over — but not before their Historic Farewell Tour, which kicks off next summer in Georgia.

The "Feels Like the First Time" band, formed in 1976 in New York City by British guitarist Mick Jones, 77, will perform 32 North American concerts from July 6 in Alpharetta, GA through Sept. 3 in Holmdel, N.J., according to Billboard , which noted the band would have more dates, both domestic and overseas, through the end of 2024.

"Foreigner is a completely revitalized band with a whole new energy that has won the hearts of our fans all over the world, and I want to go out while the band is still at the top of its game," Jones told Billboard . "I had the idea that was to become Foreigner back in 1974, and I was 30 years old at the time. By the end of our farewell tour, over 50 years will have passed, and that's a long time to be on the road."

The "Cold as Ice" hit-makers confirmed the news on Instagram , sharing a picture of the Billboard story with the caption, "Have you heard?"

The end of touring for the band had been a topic of conversation for some time, mostly revolving around the topic of maintaining the desired caliber of the band's performance, Foreigner's frontman, Kelly Hansen, 61, explained to Billboard .

"It's a very difficult decision to come to," he said. "This catalog of songs, it's extremely challenging for a rock tenor vocalist like myself to sing. I never would have thought in a million years I'd be singing these songs in the keys at this age, and I don't know how much longer I can do that at the level I need do. You can drop keys and do this and do that, but I'm more of an old-school person. If I'm not doing it for real, then I shouldn't be doing it."

Hansen added, "We're at an era in life where a lot of bands from the '70s are right on the ragged edge of still being able to do shows. I see other musicians sometimes that I go, 'Wow, that was disappointing,' and I don't want to be someone that other people say that about. I want to do this band the way it's supposed to be, and when it's not like that, I don't want to be doing it."

Teasing possible new music on the horizon to Billboard , the iconic group has released nine studio albums, five of which went multi-platinum since their 1977 self-titled debut. The group still has a number of 2022 concerts scheduled and more in the spring, all occurring prior to the farewell launch.

Tickets for The Historic Farewell Tour go on sale Friday via livenation.com . More information and updates will be posted to foreigneronline.com .

The Eagles announce farewell tour: 'The time has come for us to close the circle'

farewell tour in dallas

The Eagles will embark on their own long road out of Eden this fall for a farewell tour expected to last into 2025.

"We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful," the band said in a statement. "Everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle."

Dubbed The Long Goodbye, the Eagles' final shows will kick off Sept. 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Only the first handful of dates are being announced with Boston (Sept. 11), Denver (Oct. 5), Atlanta (Nov. 2) and St. Paul, Minnesota (Nov. 17) among them.

Presale tickets and VIP packages go on sale July 12; the general on-sale begins 10 a.m. local time July 14.

Also along for the jaunt will be Steely Dan, longtime contemporaries of the band who will commemorate their own five-decade-plus career.

In announcing their plans to end their "52-year odyssey," the Eagles – composed of Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit – noted they will play as many shows in each market as the audience demands, even if it requires returning to certain cities. The band will be joined onstage, as they have since the 2016 death of founding member Glenn Frey, by Vince Gill and Frey's son, Deacon.

Shortly after Frey's death at the age of 67, Henley indicated the Eagles would no longer tour. But following a pair of special classic-rock-focused festivals in 2017 – Classic West and Classic East, organized by their longtime manager Irving Azoff – they resumed regular live performances.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and six-time Grammy winners have played more than 1,000 concerts throughout their 50 years of touring. Their recently wrapped Hotel California Tour – named for their landmark 1976 album, which they played in its entirety with a backing orchestra – grossed about $250 million over 90 shows, according to music industry trade publication Pollstar.

In thanking fans for their years of support, the band concluded, "This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on."

Aerosmith Kicking Off Farewell Tour in September

The 40-date run of shows will kick off on sept. 2 in philadelphia and end jan. 26 in montreal, by jonathan landrum jr. | the associated press • published may 1, 2023 • updated on may 1, 2023 at 11:17 am.

Aerosmith will be touring a city near you for the last time to celebrate the rock band's 50-plus years together.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band announced Monday the dates for their farewell tour called “Peace Out” starting Sept. 2 in Philadelphia. The 40-date run of shows, which includes a stop in the band’s hometown of Boston on New Year’s Eve, will end Jan. 26 in Montreal. The Black Crowes will be the opening act.

“I think it’s about time,” guitarist Joe Perry said.

Get DFW local news, weather forecasts and entertainment stories to your inbox. Sign up for NBC DFW newsletters .

“It’s kind of a chance to celebrate the 50 years we’ve been out here,” Perry said. “You never know how much longer everybody’s going to be healthy to do this. … It’s been a while since we’ve actually done a real tour. We did that run in Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but (we're) kind of anxious to get back on the road.“

Tyler and Perry said the band is looking forward to digging into their lengthy catalog of the group’s rock classics including “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got a Gun” and “Livin’ on the Edge.”

Over the years, Aerosmith, which formed in 1970, has collected four Grammys. The band broke boundaries intersecting rock and hip-hop with their epic collaboration with Run-DMC for “Walk This Way.”

Aerosmith performed the Super Bowl halftime show in 2001 and even had their own theme park attraction in 1999 at Disney World in Florida and later in Paris with the launch of the “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith" ride.

“We’re opening up Pandora’s Box one last time to present our fans with the Peace Out tour,” Tyler said in a statement to The Associated Press. His “Pandora's Box” reference calls out Aerosmith's 1991 three-disc compilation album that covered the band's output from the 1970s to the early 1980s.

“Be there or beware as we bring all the toys out of the attic. Get ready,” Tyler added.

The band said Kramer decided to not take part in the current dates on the upcoming tour. He’s still a part of the group, but the drummer has been on leave to “focus his attention on his family and health” since their Vegas residency last year. Drummer John Douglas will continue to play in his place.

Perry called Kramer their brother. The band said his “legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”

Before the 40-date tour wraps, Perry said other cities domestically and internationally could be added.

“It’s the final farewell tour, but I have a feeling it will go on for a while,” he said. “But I don’t know how many times we’ll be coming back to the same cities. It could very possibly be the last time.”

Tickets go on sale Friday, May 5, at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com .

Tokyo Police Club Announce Final Farewell Tour in 2024

I t’s hard to believe that alternative rock outfit Tokyo Police Club has been around for nearly two decades. Unfortunately, it looks like the band will be calling it quits soon, but not before kicking off a widespread US and Canada tour this fall. The tour will be supported by Born Ruffians, Monowhales, Good Kid, and Hollerado.

The first stop on the Tokyo Police Club Farewell Tour will be on July 4 in Ottawa, Ontario at Ottawa Bluesfest. The last stop will be on November 29 in Toronto, Ontario at  HISTORY with support from Born Ruffians.

Fans get get tickets through the fan presale, which starts on March 13 through the band’s website. Use the code “TPC4EVER” to get in on the deals. General on-sale will start on March 15 via Ticketmaster and Stubhub .

We recommend checking Stubhub once the presale event is over to see what’s available. Not only is Stubhub backed by the FanProtect Program, but it’s also a great spot to find tickets that may be lower in price than face value. Who knows? You might get lucky!

The band announced that they were going to retire back in January. “To still see the same familiar faces who have been coming out since the beginning of our touring days and to be connected with so many people through music over almost 20 years of life is truly an honour,” said lead guitarist Josh Hook. “This final tour will be the best retirement party anyone could ask for. Thank you so much for being with us on this wild ride.”

This is going to be the last time fans can see Tokyo Police Club live! Don’t wait around to get your tickets to this farewell tour.

Sublime With Rome — which currently has no members of the original ska band — is embarking on a farewell tour. This comes after the founding members of Sublime announced their rebrand with singer Jakob Nowell, the son of original Sublime singer Bradley Nowell.

The tour kicks off April 11 in Catoosa, Okla., and runs until Sept. 14 in Kansas City, Mo. Sublime With Rome, which formed in 2010 to carry on Sublime’s legacy after Bradley Nowell’s death in 1996, will also release a final single titled “Love Is Dangerous.”

The dates for Sublime With Rome’s farewell tour overlap with Sublime’s dates with Nowell. Sublime — that is Nowell, Gaugh and Wilson — will perform at Coachella on April 13 and 20. Sublime With Rome will be in Texas, Connecticut and New Jersey during those dates.

Ramirez said in a statement, “I’m beyond excited to announce our upcoming farewell tour! As we gear up to hit your city, the excitement is brewing. Get ready for an epic night filled with not only the Sublime hits but a special focus on never-before-heard SWR originals. This tour is a unique opportunity to celebrate the incredible journey we’ve had together with our fans. Join us for an unforgettable evening as we reminisce and create lifelong memories. Let’s make this farewell tour one for the books!”
