We added thrill to our Puerto Princesa Underground River tour by visiting Ugong Rock Palawan. An ultimate destination for adrenaline rushing activities such as caving, spelunking, and ziplining.

A trip to Puerto Princesa Underground River is paired with an adventure side trip. It’s either in Sabang X or Ugong Rock. My thrill-seeker husband yearned to visit both attractions, but since we were a part of a group tour, we only had to choose one and we picked out the latter.

Ugong Rock Palawan

The cave is equipped with ropes and ladders so it would not be as hard as you imagine. Nevertheless, it’s better to be extra careful. Do not touch formations. Even very small cave formations take thousands of years to develop. In a cave, any footprint, change, or damage is essentially permanent. Touching cave formations put dirt on them which can become embedded in the formation marring its beauty forever.

Some of the most beautiful cave formations occur on the floors of caves so be careful where you step. Please leave all formations undisturbed. Some cave rooms have been destroyed by people removing formations. Remote and difficult places to reach are often very beautiful because the experienced cavers that visit them have preserved their beauty intact.

Knee and elbow pads will protect your joints in a crawl. After several feet of an army crawl and smacking your knees against the rock, you’ll wish you had the protection. Your body will thank you for the following day.

Wear gloves to protect the cave from you. Touching formations with your naturally oily skin can kill the formation. Also, traction for your hands is just as important as for your feet.

Ugong Rock Cave

Before we enter the cave, our guide initiated prayer for everyone’s safety, a rare activity nowadays. Our guide also points to us where to take photos! After traversing the lowest portion of the rock, we were guided to the ascending pathways and reached the cavern where we would rappel upwards.

The guides are helpful, assisting us in doing our harness and guiding us on the ladder. It was a humid day and, even though the caves were slightly cooler than outside, it was still hot and sweaty. Passageways are slippery, and you should listen to your guide and follow exactly his instructions to pass through those tight spots.

Climbing the steep Ugong Rock upon the navigation of our tour guide in which its midst you will get to hear the echoes of the hollow stalactites once knocked on, as well as see other fascinating rock formations that will make skimping yourself through both wide and narrow openings a lot more bearable and worthwhile.

The tour takes you through several cave openings until reaching the top where you can rest for a while and admire the lovely view of the countryside. It takes approximately 20 min to climb through the steep rocks, and pass through narrow passages, and on a hot humid day that can seem longer. Bring some bottled water just in case.

The rock takes its name from the echoing sound the rocks produce when tapped. They can sound similar to that of a bell being struck. We spent a good 10 min playing with the sounds of the rocks. . . We thought we were musical, but I am not sure if anyone else did.

Ugong Rock Palawan – As we climbed up the platform, I can hear cries of glee coming from the people who were soaring over the forest. I grinned excitedly, I cannot wait! The climb does get tight near the top, so it is not all easy going but the climb is designed so the average person can do it and enjoy it.

Once we reached the top, we were rewarded with a commanding view of the marble mountains, the surrounding community, and nature. ​​​​​​​ A challenge to let you feel that you can accomplish something without making you regret what you started. Then, before you know it you are at the top.

On arrival when you register, you choose whether you want the sitting position zip-line or the superman one. In our group of ten, only 4 of us decided to try the zip-line activity. Now, remember, we needed to make this decision before we had climbed to the peak.

I would say some people in our group were not sure what to expect. I should also add that the Ugong Rock adventures claim that their zip-lines are the fastest in the country. However, it did not scare us.

Nevertheless, the word “ugong” is derived from the sound made when the rocks are pounded or hit. Ugong Rock is a 75 ft. limestone formation surrounded by forests that have grown on limestone itself. It is believed to be formed at least 23 million years ago and is as high as 50 meters from the ground.

In the first few years of its run, caving is the only thing that tourists can do, hence the need to take the flight back down on foot again. However, due to popular demand, the zip-line was added in 2011.

Superman Zipline

If you have ever gone zip-lining, you’ll notice that after you do a few cables in the normal sitting upright zip-line position, you feel like you want more fun. Ugong Rock Adventures zip-line tour gives you exactly that as you get to go superman style on the two longest cables meaning you are lying down, held up by two harnesses from your back. Appropriately named, as you feel like Superman flying through the sky!

Gary goes first, I did not hear him scream, but I am pretty sure he is enjoying the view and feeling. While looking at him, I feel two staff pushed me out. I was not prepared, I screamed. The wind whipped around my face and my eyes widened, bugging out as I felt weightless, flying over the cloud forest with the sun shining brightly above me. I glanced wildly around me and crazily laughed. That was an amazingly good Whoooo!

400 meters long, 165 feet high and 34 seconds travel time felt like forever.   Ugong Rock Adventures designed their canopy tour with adrenaline in mind. The superman cable was the cherry on top of the already fun zip-line.

We had an amazing view of the mountains and plains from the platform, especially when we were zip-lining in a superman position. I love the feeling of crisp clean air whooshing. The entire zip-line experience appears more dramatic from the ground than it feels while riding the lines. I feel more like a sitting flying superhero than a  roller coaster  warrior.

This community-based sustainable tourism project is collectively managed and run by a group of Palawan locals who goes by the name Tagabinet Ugong Rock Multipurpose Cooperative, and is the usual side tour of the nearby Underground River. Palawan Island of the Philippines is located in Region IV-B. In terms of total area of jurisdiction, Palawan is the largest province in the country and Puerto Princesa City Its capital. Palawan is stretch from Sablayan tip of Mindoro Island in the northeast to Kudat island of Borneo in the southwest. It lies between the Sulu Sea and South China Sea. Palawan Island has a land area of about 22500 square kilometers which is 50 kilometers wide and 450 kilometers long. Palawan appears to be long and narrow island surrounded with a large number of other smaller islands surrounding the main island. The following islands are close toUgong Rockare Coron Island, Busuanga Island, and Culion Island belongs Calamianes Group of islands. Balabac Island is located off the southern tip of Palawan and Durangan Island in westernmost part of Palawan Island are close toUgong Rock. The Cuyo Islands is in the Sulu Sea are close toUgong Rock. A few hundred kilometers to the west is the Spratly Islands which is considered part of Palawan by the Philippines and locally called the Kalayaan Group of Islands are close toUgong Rock. Malay settlers began to populate the island during the 12th century. In 1818 Taytay was declared as the capital of Province of Calamianes Palawan. The bounty of the land saved them from starvation after fleet remnants of Ferdinand Magellan's landed in Palawan. Magellan's writer Antonio Pigafetta named the place "Land of Promise." In Palawan, the Spaniards captured the Chief Tuan Mohamad and his staff aboard their vessel and taken hostage, this is the first ever recorded act of piracy in the Philippines happened, demanded ransom within 7 days consisting of 450 chickens, one hundred ninety sacks of clean rice, 20 goats, 20 pigs, and several jars of tuba - coconut wine, these are talks of theUgong Rockneighborhood.

The first to come under Spanish authority were the northern Calamianes Islands in the early 17th century, and were later declared a province separate from the Palawan mainland. Spanish friars sent out missions in Agutaya, Cuyo, Cagayancillo and Taytay but they met resistance from Moro communities. For protection against Moro raids in the town of Balabac, Cuyo, Linapacan and Taytay, the Spainiards began to build churches enclosed by garrisons before 18th century; these are talks of theUgong Rockneighborhood. The Palawan single province named Calamianes was organized in 1818 and the entire island of Palawan declared Taytay as its capital. The Palawan province was divided into two provinces in 1858, Asturias covering the southern mainland with Puerto Princesa as capital and Castilla covering the northern section with Taytay as capital. It was later declared the town of Principe Alfonso as its capital then divided into three districts, the Paragua, Calamianes and Balabac, these are talks of theUgong Rockneighborhood.

The Americans established civil rule in northern Palawan in 1902, the province was reorganized in 1903 and in pursuant to Philippine Commission Act No. 1363, the province was renamed to Palawan and Puerto Princesa declared as its capital, these are talks of theUgong Rockneighborhood.

The rescue of 150 prisoners of war was prevented against advancing allies when General Tomoyuki Yamashita herded them at Puerto Princesa Palawan into three covered trenches which were then set on fire using barrels of gasoline on 14 December 1944 theUgong Rockneighborhood said. Between 133 and 141 number of prisoners who tried and attempt to escape but were massacred, hunted and killed only 11 men escaped the slaughter says theUgong Rockneighborhood. Between February 28 and April 22, 1945 when Palawan Island was liberated from the Japanese Imperial Forces by a task force consisting of Filipino and American military personnel according to theUgong Rockneighborhood. Palawan consists of 367 barangays and 23 municipalities, 13 municipalities are considered as mainland municipalities, and these are, Aborlan, Quezon, Narra, Sofronio Brooke's Point, Española, Bataraza and Rizal, Puerto Princesa, and San Vicente, Roxas, Dumaran, El Nido, and Taytay. The remaining municipalities are Coron, Busuanga, Culion  and Linapacan (forming the Calamianes group of islands), Cuyo, Magsaysay and Agutaya (the Cuyo group of islands), Cagayancillo, Araceli, and Kalayaan and Balabac (Spratly Islands) these are close toUgong Rock.  The highly-urbanized city that governs itself independently usually in grouped is the Puerto Princesa capital of the province for statistical purposes. The mainland municipalities has a land area 12,239 km² and the island municipalities altogether measures 2,657 km² where each municipality has an area of 620 km², whereas the Palawan Island has a total land area of 14,896 square kilometer. The largest in terms of municipal waters is the island municipality of Cuyo measuring 4,003 km² and the smallest is the mainland municipality of Sofronio Española with an area of only 485 km² close toUgong Rock. The central and northern mainland is the largest municipalities Taytay with 1,390 km², Puerto Princesa with 2,106 km² and Roxas with 1,220 km². The smallest municipalities are Magsaysay with 27.70 km², Cagayancillo with 15.40 km² and Cuyo (57.30 km²) close toUgong Rock.

English is a widely spoken in Palawan; there are fifty two languages and dialects in the province, with fifty percent are Tagalog people. Other languages are 9.5 percent are Ilonggo, 5 percent are Palawano and 26.25 percent are Cuyonon. The population of the entire Palawan is 737,100 with a strong culture from China, India and the Middle East says theUgong Rockneighborhood. Influx of migrants from Muslim Mindanao raised the high population growth rate of 3.98 percent annually of Palawan. However, the native-born Palaweños still the dominating population such as the Palawano, Tagbanua, Molbog and Batak says theUgong Rockneighborhood.

Endangered sea turtles nest on white beaches.

The craggy limestone cliffs surround the 7 lakes which attracts hundreds of nature lovers to Coron Reefs in Northern Palawan, near the town of Coron. Busuanga Island is the jump-off point for numerous dive operators which is the main town is Coron, these are close toUgong Rock. The principal dive sites are twelve World War II Japanese shipwrecks close toUgong Rock. They range in depth from the surface to forty meters. Dive courses are offered ranging from Discover Scuba to Assistant Instructor, Technical and Enriched Air Diving, as well as other specialty courses. Palawan's ethnic diversity has number of languages and dialects spoken according to theUgong Rockneighborhood. According to theUgong Rockneighborhood about forty percent speak native tongues: Pinalawan, Cuyuno, Cagayano, Tagbanua, Agutayano, and Batak. The non-native tongues are Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilonggo and Muslim dialects.

The Palawan Hornbill known locally as Talusi according to theUgong Rockneighborhood, is a smallish (around 28 in long) forest-dwelling bird. A dark green gloss on its upper parts and a large creamy-white beak with a casque typical of the hornbill family that plumage is predominantly black with a white tail.

Puerto Princesa’s Ugong Rock is a 75-foot-tall limestone rock surrounded by woods that grew on the limestone. The term 'ugong' comes from the sound created when the rocks are beaten or struck. This well-known tourist site is adjacent to the Puerto Princesa Underground River, and it is worth the trek to stop here and experience something different. 

This is an excellent location for zip lining in the midst of trees and fresh air, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Ugong Rock’s viewing deck is also a must-see, as being there gives you a panoramic view of the province.

Get ready for a Heart attack.

Ann and Nancy Wilson’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group just added a second leg to their 2024 ‘Royal Flush Tour’ from September through December with special guests Cheap Trick , Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin on select dates.

Midway through the fall and winter run, the “Crazy On You” rockers will stop into New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday, Oct. 21.

On the first leg of the ‘Royal Flush Tour,’ Heart is scheduled to deal the hits at Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Live on Friday, May 24, Albany’s MVP Arena on Saturday, Aug. 10 and Buffalo’s KeyBank Center on Sunday, Aug. 11.

“I am incredibly proud of the show that our band has crafted and am looking forward to reconnecting with our fans,” Nancy Wilson shared.

“We can’t wait to share our music with everyone and celebrate the timeless legacy of our classic hits.”

And if you want to celebrate “Barracuda,” “Magic Man,” “Bebe Le Strange” and “Dreamboat Annie” with the Wilson sisters, you can grab tickets for all of their 2024 concerts as soon as today.

The 73-year-old Ann dropped the 11-track “Another Door” with her backing band Tripsitter in 2023. You can check out the rockin’ record  here .

Rock band Heart adds Nashville stop to 'Royal Flush Tour,' headed to Bridgestone Arena

The band Heart has announced more dates on their "Royal Flush Tour 2024" which will now bring them to Nashville. Heart will perform at Bridgestone Arena on Monday, October 14.

Heart, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, is known for hits, “Magic Man”, “Barracuda”, “Crazy on You” and “These Dreams." The band's current lineup includes Nancy Wilson, Ann Wilson, Ryan Wariner, Ryan Waters, Paul Moak, Tony Lucido and Sean T Lane.

And now after a five-year hiatus, the band will hit the road again, adding 30 new performance dates across North America this fall.

The North American tour, which will also take the band to Europe, will kick off April 20 in Greenville, SC. Heart has added stops in San Francisco, Kansas City, Houston, Calgary, Vancouver and more, and will conclude in Las Vegas on Dec. 15.

"We’re so excited to announce more tour dates," Heart’s Ann Wilson said. “The exceptional talent of the band – Ryan, Ryan, Paul, Tony and Sean – brings a whole new level of energy to Heart’s live performance”. 

On the tour, they will be joined by Cheap Trick, Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening and Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) with Randy Bachmanon for select dates.

This summer, Heart will also hit the stage with band Def Leppard and Journey for stadium shows in Cleveland, Toronto and Boston.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers stop in Des Moines on Nov. 19 as part of their “Royal Flush Tour 2024.”

The Grammy-nominated band was founded in the 1970s.

Behind enduring hits “Barracuda,” “Crazy on You” and “Magic Man,” Heart’s current lineup includes Nancy and Ann Wilson, Ryan Wariner, Ryan Waters, Paul Moak, Tony Lucido and Sean T. Lane. The Wilson sisters were described as the “ first ladies of classic rock ” by Rolling Stone in 2012.

Heart will be joined by Jason Bonham, the son of late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, who performs the legendary music his father was part of.

Heart Extends Massive 2024 Reunion Tour with Shows in Nashville, L.A., N.Y.C. and More — See the Dates!

T he rock legends will be setting out on tour along with Cheap Trick, BTO featuring Randy Bachman and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening

After a five year hiatus, allow Heart to go "Crazy On You" with their thrilling live show and long-awaited return to the stage!

The rockers previously announced they were setting out on a massive tour in 2024 — marking their reunion and first run of live shows since 2019 — and, on Tuesday, Heart revealed they're expanding the dates. The group helmed by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson will now continue their run, titled the Royal Flush Tour, across North America through the end of the year, along with an A-list slate of special guests.

While the "Barracuda" group's shows this year were originally set to kick off in late April and wrap up by September, they'll now be out on the road through the fall until mid-December.

Heart's 2024 tour kicks off on April 20 in Greenville, South Carolina, continues in the U.S. through May, before heading to Europe for a handful of dates in June and July. On July 30, they'll resume their North American leg in Columbus, Ohio, and then play through the rest of the summer and into the fall.

The newly announced dates begin on Sept. 26 in San Francisco and last until Dec. 15 in Las Vegas. Fans will be able to catch the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees at stadiums in major cities like Los Angeles, Houston, Nashville, New York City, Vancouver, San Diego and many others.

Throughout the Royal Flush Tour, the "Magic Man" band will be joined by fellow rock legends Cheap Trick, and select shows will also include support from BTO featuring Randy Bachman and Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening, the project from the son of the English rock group's original drummer.

The Wilson sisters shared a statement in press release about the upcoming concerts.

The Royal Flush Tour comes after the rock favorites celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.

It also marks their first time out on the road together since 2019, when the "Alone" group set out on their Love Alive Tour. At the time, the shows saw the Wilsons coming back together after the two experience a brief rift. (In 2016, Ann's husband,  Dean Wetter, assaulted Nancy's then-16-year-old sons  after they reportedly left a tour bus door open, which he pleaded guilty to two non-felony assault charges.)

Both Ann and Nancy also recently took time to record their own solo efforts: Ann with Fierce Bliss in 2022 and Nancy with You and Me in 2021.

The two hitmakers have both explained to PEOPLE in interviews that taking time apart only makes their work together in Heart stronger.

"[Taking time apart] allows us to bring stuff back to Heart that we didn't have before," Ann said in a 2022 interview . "We love each other. She and I really look forward to smooth sailing."

Meanwhile, Nancy shared in a 2021 conversation that it was "so amazing" to get back out on the road together on their 2019 tour. "I could see that the Heart fans really loved the big spectacle aspects of the show — even if Ann didn't love the bubble machine I had requested," she said. "But most of all we saw how much the Heart fans loved the Heart sisters reunited."

While the previously announced concerts are already on sale , tickets for the fall dates go on sale later this week. Ticket sales kick off with a presale for Citi cardmembers, which lasts from now until Thursday at 10 p.m. local time. The general on-sale will then follow on Friday at 10 a.m. local time.

Ohio-born The Black Keys to perform in October at Nationwide Arena

The Black Keys , the Grammy-winning blues-rock duo hailing from Akron, will return to their home state during their 2024 North American tour, which will stop at Nationwide Arena on Oct. 24.

The Black Keys played the Schottenstein Center in 2012 and their upcoming “International Players Tour” comes on the heels of two successful performances at SXSW earlier this month. The tour is in support of their new album, “Ohio Players,” due out on Friday. They will be joined on the road with indie folk band The Head and the Heart.

The pair — Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney — started as an indie act, recording in basements and producing their own records. After self-producing and recording their first four albums in makeshift studios, the duo recorded their fifth album, "Attack & Release" in 2008 in a professional studio, hiring producer Danger Mouse, who has worked with artists such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz, Norah Jones, Adele, A$AP Rocky and many others.

The Black Keys' commercial breakthrough came with the 2010 album, "Brothers," which along with its chart-topping single "Tighten Up," earned them two Grammy Awards.
