Overview of Singapore Visas

Singapore issues several types of visas for visitors, including tourist visas , social visit passes, and transit visas. The most common visa for leisure travel is the tourist visa.

Tourist Visa

The Singapore tourist visa allows foreign nationals to enter Singapore for up to 30 days for leisure travel purposes. Some key facts about the tourist visa:

  • Issued as either a single-entry or multiple-entry visa
  • Valid for up to 30 days from the date of entry
  • Extendable up to 90 days total stay

Social Visit Pass

The social visit pass is very similar to a tourist visa, but is issued upon arrival for citizens of certain countries. It also allows up to 30 days initial stay.

Transit Visa

The transit visa allows passing through Singapore en route to another country. It is valid for up to 96 hours.

Extending the Tourist Visa

The standard Singapore tourist visa allows up to 30 days stay from the date of entry. However, it is possible to apply to extend the visa up to 90 days total stay.

Eligibility for Extension

To be eligible for a tourist visa extension in Singapore, you must:

  • Have a valid tourist visa
  • Have already been in Singapore for at least 30 days
  • Be able to provide proof of funds and onward travel arrangements
  • Pay the extension fee
  • Have not exceeded 90 days stay in Singapore this year

Some nationalities may have additional requirements.

How to Apply for Extension

To extend a tourist visa , you must submit an application in person at the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) office. Here are the steps:

  • Download the tourist visa extension form from the ICA website
  • Complete the form with your personal details
  • Proof of funds (bank statements)
  • Confirmed onward or return ticket
  • Any other required documents
  • Go to the ICA office during operating hours
  • Submit the completed form, passport, and supporting documents
  • Pay the extension fee (typically $30-60 SGD)
  • Wait for passport to be returned with new visa sticker reflecting extended validity

Extensions are usually processed while you wait at the ICA office. Total processing time is 30-60 minutes typically.

Length of Extension

When applying for a tourist visa extension, you can request an extension of up to 60 additional days. For example, if you entered Singapore on a 30-day tourist visa and have already been there for 30 days, you could apply to extend your stay for up to 60 more days.

The maximum combined length of stay allowed on a tourist visa is 90 days within a 6 month period. So you cannot extend longer than that.

The Singapore tourist visa can indeed be extended beyond the initial 30 days up to a total stay of 90 days. You must apply in person at the ICA office and meet the eligibility criteria. With the extension, you can prolong your time visiting amazing Singapore.

Singapore Visa Extension

You can find out the last day of validity for your visa by using the  Visa Pass Validity tool .

For nationals of countries not requiring entry visas, a 14-day Social Visit Visa is typically issued upon arrival. One can extend this visit pass for a longer period by applying for an extension online via the  ICA website  or at the ICA visitor services center. Thirty-90 day extensions are typically given depending on the visitor’s purpose in Singapore :

  • Business purposes (Up to 30 days)
  • Social purposes (Up to 90 days)
  • Seeking medical services (Up to 90 days)

Visitor Services Centre, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, 4th Storey, ICA Building, 10 Kallang Road (Next to Lavender MRT station)

The ICA also grants long term extensions of stay for the following reasons:

  • Female Social Visitor Whose Child/Grandchild Is Studying in Singapore on a Student’s Pass
  • Social Visitor Seeking Permission To Deliver A Child in Singapore
  • Social Visitor Whose Spouse is Singapore Citizen (SC) or Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)
  • Social Visitor (below 21 years old) Whose Parent is a Singapore Citizen (SC) or
  • Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)
  • Social Visitor Whose Child (above the age of 21 years old) is a Singapore Citizen (SC) or
  • Visitor seeking long-term stay

As requirements, forms, and supporting documents are vastly different for each category and sometimes change, visit the  ICA website  for specifics.

Student Pass

Foreign students studying in an Institute of Higher Learning are granted a Student’s Pass for the full-duration of the course. Students who require an extension of the Student’s Pass beyond the initial course duration may submit an application to renew the Student’s Pass through the online Student Pass portal, SOLAR, which can be accessed via the  ICA website . Students must include information about their travel documents, Student Pass Card (IMM Form 17A), and Student Visit Pass and Disembarkation/Embarkation Card (IMM Form 15A). If the student wishes to have a longer period of stay to look for jobs on completion of their courses, he/she may also submit an application for a one-year (non-renewable) Social Visit Pass Unit with the ICA.

Employment Pass, PEP, Dependent’s Pass, and EntrePass

The Employment Pass Renewal Form will be sent to the employing company about two months before the pass expires. Employment Pass renewal applications should be submitted to the Work Pass Division at least four weeks before the pass expires. Each renewal will be considered based on its own merits.

When the Employment/S Pass holder renews his/her pass, the pass holder’s family members should renew their Dependent’s Passes (DP) as well. The DP renewal application should be submitted together with, or after the Employment/S Pass renewal application has been submitted.

Holders may perform an early renewal by using EP Online (EPOL) on the  Ministry of Manpower website . Alternatively, you may write in to Work Pass Division to request for an early renewal at Work Pass Division, Ministry of Manpower, 18 Havelock Road, Singapore 059764.

For regular EP, PEP, and DP holders, 80% of EPOL applications are processed within seven days. It will take at least three weeks, however, to process a manual application. For manual submission, one must complete the Employment Pass Renewal Form and submit it via the deposit box located on Level 1, Ministry of Manpower Building or send it to the following address: Work Pass Division, Ministry of Manpower, 18 Havelock Road.

Processing time may take longer during peak periods or when additional information is required from the various economic agencies. The application’s outcome will be sent to the employer. For approved application, an In-Principle Approval Letter will be sent to the employer, and the holder can collect the renewed passes from the MOM thereafter. The EntrePass renewal form will be sent to the sponsoring company about two months before the pass expires. EntrePass renewal applications should be submitted to the Work Pass Division (WPD) at least four weeks before the pass expires. This process can also be managed via EP Online or manually as for the EP.

A Singapore visa is an official document issued by the Singaporean Government that allows foreign nationals to enter, stay, and engage in various activities within the country’s borders.

It serves as legal authorization for individuals to visit Singapore for tourism, work, study , or business purposes , depending on the type of visa obtained.

A Singapore visa allows the holder to enter a Singaporean point of entry, where they will be checked by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers. The ICA decides whether the visitor meets the country’s entry requirements.

You have to apply for a Singapore visa at least 30 days before you arrive in Singapore.

But keep in mind that just because you have a Singapore visa does not mean you will be allowed to enter since the Singapore visa is just pre-entry permission.

If you meet the entry requirements, however, you will receive a Pass allowing you to enter Singapore and stay for the duration the Pass is issued.

Singapore’s population of 5.08 million people (June 2010) primarily consists of people of Chinese (70%), Malay, and Indian backgrounds.

However, the reliable and inexpensive broadband services entail that expatriates can easily overcome this obstacle.

The official language of Singapore is Mandarin Chinese , which is the Singaporean Government’s language. However, English is the most common language and is the language of business and trade.

Children will generally be taught in English in schools but will also be expected to learn Mandarin . Other common languages in Singapore include Tamil, Malay, and Cantonese.

Many Singaporeans speak a language that has come to be known as Singlish . Singlish is a mixture of English and other languages and can be difficult for English speakers to understand.

All About Singapore Visa Extension or Renewal 2024

Facebook

Singapore is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, and why wouldn’t it be? The country has everything you could ever want: delicious food, fantastic shopping, awe-inspiring attractions, and verdant landscapes. If you are visiting Singapore, you are required to obtain the right visa according to your citizenship. It is possible to apply for a short-term tourist visa in advance of your trip or you can apply for a visa on arrival depending on your nationality. There is, however, more to know than just that! How do you get a tourist visa for Singapore renewed? Would you be able to extend your stay beyond the period set forth by the original visa if you wanted to? Our guide to Singapore visa renewal will explain what a Singapore visa is and how to renew it for people who want to stay in this beautiful country for an extended period.

What is a Singapore tourist visa?

Any individual from outside Singapore needs to apply for a Singapore tourist visa if they wish to visit this destination for social or tourist purposes. Some citizens of certain countries are eligible to gain access to a visa on-arrival service or are fully exempt from the requirement to obtain a visa to enter Singapore. Citizens of certain countries are also eligible for Singapore evisa . It is the responsibility of the citizens who require a Singapore Visit Visa before arriving at the point of entry in Singapore to apply and acquire the visa in advance of the stipulated departure date. A Singapore tourist visa has to be acquired by those who need a pre-approved travel document to enter Singapore. A short-term visa however only guarantees the holder to arrive in Singapore. For the visa holder to get past the immigration counter and step foot into the country, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority needs to assign a valid Singapore Arrival Card (A visit Pass) as this is the ticket that allows entry within the country. Whether or not a Singapore Arrival Card is provided to a foreign national depends solely on the Immigration Authority of Singapore.

What is the validity period of a Singapore tourist visa?

To have a better understanding of the Singapore visit visa, it would be helpful if we clarified a few key points first. The Singapore visit visa is a pre-requisite travel document that Singapore visitors must secure if they are citizens of certain countries that are not visa-exempt for Singapore travel. This visit visa is just permission to arrive at the entry point in Singapore. At the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, the visa will be verified and Singapore Arrival Card also known as Singapore Visit Pass will be provided which reflects the actual days you are allowed to enter and stay in Singapore. It is therefore imperative to obtain the Singapore Visit Pass to enter Singapore. Singapore visit visas can be valid for a longer period than the time you are granted to stay in Singapore. Once you gain entry into Singapore, you should pay attention to the expiration date on your Visit Pass provided by the Immigration officer. You will need to exit Singapore before the due date of this Singapore Visit Pass lapse. If you overstay, you will be charged with heavy penalties. It is still possible to renew your Singapore visit pass before it expires while you are still in Singapore itself. On the other hand, if your Singapore visit visa expires, you will have to renew it.

With a short-term visit visa, you can enter Singapore and get a 30-day Singapore Visit Pass. Singapore Visit Pass can be extended while you are in Singapore if the validity period is about to expire. For this, you should not have applied for an extension while in Singapore previously and your Singapore visit pass must still be valid for at least 3 working days from the date of the extension application submission. The number of days you can extend your stay is limited to 30 from the date when your visit pass expires. You will only need your Embarkation/Disembarkation number on the SG Arrival Card and a valid passport with at least six months of validity in order to extend a visit pass. As mentioned earlier, however, if you have a Singapore visit visa that has lapsed its validity, you will have to renew your Singapore visa, which means that you will have to go through the Singapore visa application process that you already went through when you had applied for your Singapore visa for the first time. In this case, you will have to

  • Complete the Singapore visit visa application form thoroughly, correctly, and without any errors and submit it online.
  • Gather all required documents for Singapore visa and photographs as per specification and hand them over to an authorized Singapore visa agent.
  • Provide proof of financial ability to cover your stay in Singapore.
  • Pay the visa fees and wait for the results.

In case you are extending your Singapore Visit Pass, then you need to pay a non-refundable fee of SGD 40 per application. If you are renewing your short-term Singapore tourist visa, you have to pay a non-refundable visa fee of SGD 30 per application.
