PiL Announce North American Tour Dates for 40th Anniversary

John Lydon is set to bring his long running post-punk group  Public Image Ltd .  back to North America this fall for an a run of 18-dates celebrating the band’s 40th Anniversary. This is part of what has been  billed as “The Public Image Is Rotten” tour, which is also the name of a  new documentary , and career spanning  box set.

The North American leg of the tour follows dates in Europe and the UK, with the first date beginning Oct. 9th in New Orleans, and the last on November 6th in Mexico city. In between there are dates in Montreal and Toronto, along with two stops in San Francisco, and concerts in Atlanta, New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle and more.

PiL unveils new album “End of World” and extensive tour — hear opening track “Penge”

Public Image Ltd. today announced the release this summer of the the band’s 11th album, titled End of World , and an accompanying tour of the U.K. and Europe — news that comes just days after the death of frontman John Lydon’s wife Nora Forster .

The 13-track album is due out Aug. 11 (Pre-order: Amazon.com , Amazon.co.uk , Apple Music ), and opens with the just-released “Penge” — hear that song below — and closes with “Hawaii,” the previously released track that Lydon wrote for his wife as he was losing her to Alzheimer’s disease.

PiL also is plotting a 38-date tour of the U.K. and Europe, which opens Sept. 8 with a pair of shows in Greece, followed by a U.K. run through September and then European dates all through October.

A pre-sale for the new tour begins at 10 a.m. local time Wednesday, April 12, for subscribers to the PiL mailing list . The general on-sale follows at 10 a.m. Friday, April 14.

The new PiL album is the band’s third since reuniting in 2009; the group’s lineup since then has included drummer Bruce Smith, guitarist Lu Edmonds and bassist Scott Firth.

My husband and I will be in moscow and wanted to take a side trip..understand Vladimir & Suzdal is quite nice. Do you prefer that to Sergiev Posad? Do you know any agencies that provide group tours or private tours to Vladimir & Suzdal? I understand that Patriarshy Dom is not operating its group tour during this time. Please advise. Any information you have to share would be helpful.

Vladimir & Suzdal are close to each other. you can use vladimir as base and also visit suzdal.

I will give you some links ( sorry i am out on tour and can't do more research).

In order to organize tours from Vladimir, there are 3 major sites where you will get infor about the tours operating from Vladimir, how to reach there etc.

My sugestion would be to go to Vladimir by train from moscow in the evening, take rest and then join a full day tour of vladimir - suzdal and return at night or next day morning. The train takes 2-3 hrs. Details available at http://www.poezda.net ( in english) .You can even book online

Trains are clean and safe. Hotel Vladimir at Vladimir is ok. near the train station. you can find the contacts in google. ( book the tickets in advance.)

You can visit sergiev possad ( quite near to moscow) using the moscow based tour agency mentioned above. They offer day trips to Sergivev possad.

If you want to search the net further, go to http://www.yandex.ru ( russian website) and type in "vladimir tour" or "suzdal tour" in ENGLISH. This will give you many sites with english option

will you consider a DIY trip?

from moscow to vladimir take a long-distance train or a suburban (electrichek) train from kursky station. there are several in the daytime/early evening. certain long-distance trains are faster and can arrive in 2 hours. suburbans take 3 hrs. probably less complicated to buy suburban ticket than one of a long-distance train (where you need passport, specify what type of seat, which train number...) and also cheaper

once in vladimir you can walk around for 1-2 hours or even have your dinner there. then take a bus (avtobus) at the bus station just up a slope from the train station. the bus runs every 30-60mins till late. i took the one around 8-9pm. and the evening buses go directly into city centre of suzdal. the trip is about 40-60mins

the tricky part is if you reserve your accomodation in suzdal with a guesthouse/B&B, it may not be easy to locate. the one i had booked did not have a sign hanging at the door. i walked around for about an hour and at last had to find a local to talk to my host over phone and then she kindly led me to the right wooden house

Public Image Ltd. (PiL) have decided to continue plans to announce their 11th studio album and first album in 8 years, End of World, today, following the sad passing of John’s wife of more than four decades, Nora Forster, on 5th April. End of World will be released on 11th August 2023 on PiL Official via Cargo UK Distribution, followed by a 38-date UK and European Tour .

Earlier this year, PiL released Hawaii, the most personal piece of songwriting and accompanying artwork that John Lydon has ever shared. The song is a love letter to John’s wife Nora, who sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s on Wednesday 5th April. A pensive, personal yet universal love song that has resonated with many since its release in January, the song sees John reflecting on their lifetime well spent and in particular one of their happiest moments together in Hawaii. John said, “Nora loved the album, she wouldn’t have wanted us to postpone it or change any of our plans.” Previously he has said of Hawaii, “It is dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most.”

The band began writing and recording End of World in 2018, during their 40th anniversary tour. After The Great Pause, the band regrouped in the studio and “there was just this massive explosion of ideas,” Lydon says. The result finds PiL set to release 13 of the best tracks they have ever written.

The announcement comes with the release of new single Penge, which John has described as, “something of a medieval Viking epic.”

Celebrating their 40-year anniversary in 2018, the band is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time.

PiL’s music and vision has earned them 5 UK Top 20 singles and 5 UK Top 20 albums. With a shifting line-up and unique sound – fusing rock, dance, folk, pop and dub – Lydon guided the band from their debut album First Issue in 1978 through to 1992’s That What Is Not, before a 17 year hiatus. Lydon reactivated PiL in 2009, touring extensively worldwide and releasing two critically acclaimed albums This is PiL in 2012 followed by their 10th studio album What The World Needs Now… in 2015, which peaked at number 29 in the official UK album charts and picked up fantastic acclaim from both press and public. (The album also peaked at number 3 in the official UK indie charts and number 4 in the official UK vinyl charts). What The World Needs Now… was self-funded by PiL and released on their own label PiL Official’ via Cargo UK Distribution. In 2018 PiL celebrated their 40th anniversary with a career-spanning box set and documentary, both called The Public Image Is Rotten’, and a 32-date UK/Europe tour, plus dates in Japan.

John Lydon, Lu Edmonds, Scott Firth and Bruce Smith continue as PiL. They are the longest stable line-up in the band’s history and continue to challenge and thrive.

Public Image Ltd: John Lydon – After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed Public Image Ltd in 1978. Outside of PiL John has released several solo records and collaborations. He also brings quality TV to the masses. He has released two autobiographies; Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs’ in 1994 and Anger is an Energy: My Life Uncensored’ in 2014. He then released Mr Rotten’s Songbook’ in 2017, which features never before seen artwork as well as annotated song lyric sheets spanning John’s entire career, all written in his own hand.

Lu Edmonds – Multi instrumentalist and former guitarist in The Damned, Lu joined PiL in 1986 recording and playing on the album Happy?’ and co-writing the album 9′, adding yet another dimension to the PiL sound.

Bruce Smith – Drummer in The Pop Group and formerly of The Slits Bruce became percussionist for PiL in 1986 playing and recording on the albums Happy?’ and 9′. Seen as a drumming virtuoso, Bruce brought his unique style into the fold.

Scott Firth – A bass player/multi instrumentalist that has collaborated and played with a variety of top musicians and bands including Steve Winwood, John Martyn and Elvis Costello. Scott is the newest member of the band, having joined in 2009.

The Valero Texas Open offered the opportunity for golfers to play their way into the field at TPC San Antonio via a Monday qualifier. Alex Welch claimed low medalist at Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, with a 6-under 66. Tom Adrounie and PGA TOUR winner Adam Long each carded 5-under 67s, to earn spots in the field at TPC San Antonio. Peter Kuest achieved the final spot in the field overcoming a 5-for-1 playoff to punch his ticket for the Valero Texas Open.

Alex Welch (6-under 66)

Age: 23 Hometown: League City, Texas PGA TOUR starts: 0

Notes: Carded six birdies in a bogey-free 6-under day around Fair Oaks … Will be making his first start on the PGA TOUR. … Works at his family’s hardware store in the Houston area, where he plays out of Magnolia Creek Golf Club, practicing after his shifts. … Played collegiately for Texas A&M-Commerce but hasn’t found success on minitours and had to get through a pre-qualifier just to make it to his first Monday qualifier.

Notes: Made an eagle and five birdies en route to a 5-under 67… Made the cut at last week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open, the only cut he has made this season on TOUR in four starts.

Notes: Prevailed in a 5-for-1 playoff to secure the final spot in the Valero field … Birdied the second playoff hole making a 25-foot putt … Made one cut so far in six starts during the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour season … Advanced from a 4-for-3 playoff at the open qualifier for the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic and went on to finish T4, his first career top-10 on TOUR.
