13 Fantastic Things To Do In Seattle At Night

night tour seattle

  • Destinations
  • United States

As the sun sets over the calm water of Puget Sound, Seattle comes alive at night. With a variety of exciting evening activities available in Washington’s largest city, there’s no shortage of things to do as the day fades into dusk in the Emerald City. From breathtaking views to guided tours, there are plenty of sights to take in and experiences to enjoy. So grab your coat (and maybe an umbrella) and discover all that Seattle has to offer as night falls. For this article, I’ve focused on Seattle activities that you can do after 5 p.m.

Note: Some of my experiences were hosted. All opinions are my own.

Alki Beach Park

1. Enjoy The Sunset

One of the best experiences available on the West Coast is watching the sun set over the water. Although Seattle is about 100 miles east of the Pacific Ocean, it’s still surrounded by water, thanks to Elliott Bay, Lake Washington, and Lake Union. Gorgeous sunsets can also include views of Mount Rainier and Bainbridge Island.

Discovery Park

At more than 500 acres, Discovery Park is Seattle’s largest park. From here, you can enjoy sunset views of the Olympic Mountains, downtown Seattle, and the ferries.

Overlooking downtown Seattle, Kerry Park is one of the city’s most visited parks. It provides phenomenal views of Elliott Bay and the Seattle skyline.

Gas Works Park

Built on the former grounds of the Seattle Gas Light Company’s gasification plant, Gas Works Park delivers panoramic views of Seattle that are especially impressive at sunset.

Alki Beach Park

Located in West Seattle, Alki Beach Park’s variety of bars and restaurants line Elliott Bay, making it a great spot to grab a sip or a bite while watching the sunset over the water.

Space Needle at night during the holidays

2. Space Needle

The Space Needle was built for the Seattle World’s Fair and has been a popular destination for more than 50 years. And if it looks like a building from a space-age cartoon, that’s because The Jetsons used the tower’s design to create its “skypad” apartment buildings.

As the sun sets and the city lights up, the Space Needle transforms into a stunning beacon that is the crown jewel of the skyline. On the observation deck, located 520 feet above ground, floor-to-ceiling glass walls allow you to enjoy breathtaking views of the city, Puget Sound, and the surrounding mountains. For an extra-special experience, grab a drink at The Loupe Lounge , the world’s only revolving glass-floor bar.

Pro Tip: To save money on the top tourist attractions in Seattle, consider purchasing a Seattle CityPASS , which includes admission to the Space Needle, Seattle Aquarium, and three other attractions.

Smith Tower in Seattle

3. Smith Tower

Want a beautiful evening view that includes the Space Needle? Head to Smith Tower , Seattle’s original skyscraper and the tallest building west of the Mississippi River when it was built in 1914. After enjoying an impressive nighttime view of the city from the open-air observation deck, head to the speakeasy-style bar for a classic cocktail.

Pro Tip: Looking for a great place to stay in Seattle? Located in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood, Level Seattle offers spacious, apartment-style suites that feel like home away from home.

4. Sky View Observatory

Located on the 73rd floor of the Columbia Center, the Sky View Observatory is the tallest observatory in the Pacific Northwest, delivering phenomenal city views. Make any hour happy with a snack, pint of beer, glass of wine, or specialty cocktail from the Sky View Cafe or High Bar as you drink in the view. Raise a glass to native son Jimi Hendrix by sipping the purple haze of a Lavender Sunset, made with gin, housemade lemonade, and lavender syrup. With comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere, the bar and lounge area is the perfect place to unwind from a day in Seattle while admiring the city from above.

Pro Tip: Known for its beginnings in the coffee industry, check out these nine delicious coffee shops to try in Seattle that aren’t Starbucks .

Seattle Waterfront at night

5. Seattle Waterfront

The Seattle Waterfront promenade stretches from the Olympic Sculpture Park to the professional sports stadiums. It allows pedestrians to walk from the ferry terminal at pier 50 all the way to pier 70 without crossing a single street. It also delivers beautiful views of the Seattle skyline on one side and the snow-capped Olympic Mountains on the other.

As you wander, keep an eye out for sculptures, fountains, murals, and other amazing works of public art along the waterfront . And don’t assume that each pier is the same; each one you pass offers unique eateries and interesting shops.

6. The Seattle Great Wheel

As you explore the Seattle Waterfront, you can’t help but notice the Seattle Great Wheel stretching 40 feet out over Elliott Bay at the end of pier 57. At 175 feet tall, this Ferris wheel is the largest observation wheel on the West Coast and delivers stunning views of the city, Puget Sound, and the surrounding mountains. Each of the 42 gondolas is fully-enclosed and climate-controlled, so you can enjoy the ride year-round regardless of weather conditions.

Space Needle at sunset

7. Sunset Cruise

If you’d rather welcome the end of the day from the water than on land, book a

sunset sail , sunset cruise , or sunset dinner cruise . Options are available through several local operators, but regardless of the package you pick, you’re sure to enjoy unique views of the city skyline and surrounding mountains from the water. Many of the cruises take you through Elliott Bay, where you’ll see the iconic Space Needle and other Seattle landmarks from an extraordinary vantage point.

8. Haunted Seattle Ghost Tour

To add a little fright to your night, take a haunted Seattle ghost tour. The walking tours offered by Seattle Terrors take place nightly — rain or shine — and include spooky tales that range from Chief Seattle’s daughter, Kikisoblu , who haunts Pike Place Market, to a serial killer with the title of “doctor” who starved her patients to death.

9. Underground Tour

For a phenomenal, phantom-free walking tour, try the Underground Tour . It takes visitors on a journey through the passageways beneath the streets of Pioneer Square (the city’s original downtown) and past the storefronts that were once the city’s street level. This immersive, 75-minute tour is a combination of walking and standing. If you prefer this tour in a spooky format, book the paranormal experience .

Pike Place Market at night

10. Visit A Brewery

With its thriving craft beer scene, visiting a brewery in Seattle is a must-do activity for any beer lover. Pike Brewing Company is an independent craft brewery that’s just a 1-minute walk from the Gum Wall in Seattle’s Pike Place Public Market neighborhood. It offers a unique blend of history, atmosphere, and great beer. To enjoy a beer and beautiful weather, head to Fremont Brewing , where a massive outdoor beer garden — just a few blocks from the Fremont Troll — awaits.

11. The Tasting Room

If you prefer fermented grapes to liquid bread, then check out The Tasting Room . Operated by several regional wineries and conveniently located in the heart of Pike Place Market, this cozy wine bar allows wine lovers to sample up to 60 different wines from across the Evergreen State.

Fun Fact: The oldest winery in Washington State is Chateau Ste. Michelle. Founded in nearby Woodinville on the estate of Seattle lumber baron Frederick Stimson, its roots date back to the repeal of Prohibition.

Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders FC

12. Go To A Game

Whether you love American football, baseball, soccer, rugby, or hockey, the Seattle sports scene has you covered. Seattle is home to several major league sports teams including the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, MLB’s Seattle Mariners, MLS’s Seattle Sounders FC, MLR’s Seattle Seawolves, and NHL’s Seattle Kraken. One of the best parts of attending a professional sporting event in Seattle is the atmosphere. The city is well known for its passionate and enthusiastic fans who come together to create an electric atmosphere in the stadium.

13. Wild Lanterns At Woodland Park Zoo

If you visit Seattle in the late fall or early winter, these are nine reasons you’ll love  WildLanterns at the Woodland Park Zoo. Gaze at a wide range of large-scale and natural-scape lanterns that represent wild creatures and rugged places from around the world. You can also get your fill of Christmas lights by strolling through the Discovery Loop, where hundreds of thousands of lights add their glow to trees and other structures.

From amazing sunset views to historic walking tours, from relaxing beer gardens to a live sporting event, there are many fantastic things to do in Seattle at night.

  • bakes1984 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Unprofessional I got an email confirmation about a week before my scheduled tour. It stated I should be receiving an email from my guide a couple days before my scheduled tour. I never got the follow up email so I messaged the night before to confirm. At 6AM the morning of my tour, I got a message explaining my tour had been canceled and there were no tours happening right now. This was the 1 splurge I made for my trip and was strung along for nothing; very unprofessional business! Read more Written June 21, 2021
  • Kidoctr 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Canceled on us THE DAY BEFORE OUR TOUR! Booked the VIP Ultimate Seattle Food Tour for 6 people on January 6th for March 18th. I was notified that our host was being briefed on March 3rd and I was contacted by March 4th. Details were exchanged and a proposed itinerary was received on March 15th. We paid $976 for this 4 hour tour and I was told that our "budget" for food for the 6 of us was $213. The itinerary included 3 stops where we were expected to order off the menu and share. Transportation between restaurants was not included. I asked our host what their recommendations were (why those particular restaurants were selected) and commented that making 3 reservations, being responsible for our own transportation, and ordering off the menu/sharing was something we could have just done on our own. On the morning of March 17th - ONE DAY BEFORE OUR TOUR - I received notification that our tour was canceled "due to COVID" (which isn't being honest, IMO). What horrible service. There was no mention of working with another tour guide or re scheduling at all. I am still waiting for my refund despite reaching out to the tour company. Absolute lack of professionalism and regard to their customers. Again would not recommend this company at all. Read more Written November 12, 2020

She contacted me ahead of time to personalize the tour and also checked in with me before we started (day of) to see what I was still interested in visiting. We hit the spots I most wanted to see - Pioneer square, the International areas, the Public Market, the first Starbucks - and she also highlighted so many other things along the way. Sheila gave me great backstories about Seattle and it's many attractions. She also did her homework to accommodate my food sensitivities, which was very much appreciated. This tour was very much worth it's while, especially because of my great guide. Read more Written March 2, 2020
  • U3967CZgemmar 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Excellent tour with small children! We had such an amazing day with Wiley! We had an 8 and 5 year old with us so was nervous about how many miles we would cover for their little legs, however Wiley made it fun for the kids and we got to experience the train and the monorail also! The space needle, glass museum and walking around with Wiley whilst he informed us of the city and history were just fab! He also took us to a glass shop where the kids got to watch them make some glass orninents to take home! I would defiantly recommend having a private tour of the city as you learn so much and get to see things you wouldn’t normally see as a tourist! Thank you Wiley! Read more Written October 23, 2019
  • traveleasy1 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Newcomers introduction to Seattle neighborhoods I had moved to the Key Peninsula (50 miles SW) approximately 6 months ago and had been up to Seattle 3-4 times for different reasons but wanted a walking tour/history/get my bearings of the city from a local. My 14 year old nephew was here on spring break and I wanted to introduce him to a major metropolitan city experience also. I was paired up with Wiley who had lived in Seattle for a couple years. He was very involved in theater and swing dancing. Fun, kind, engaging and chill guy. I gave him some background on my interests for me and my teenage nephew but really let him guide us thru the city. Thankfully it was a gorgeous, sunny day. Mid week, lots of tourists, activity. I have to say this would have been pretty miserable for 6 hours if it had been cold and raining! We actually cut the tour short because my nephew was exhausted and our feet were starting to ache. I was very happy with Wiley, our tour, activities, information, lunch choice and overall day. I don’t think it was a great value(good value) and I wish Wiley was a little more informative on the history of the city. Read more Written March 26, 2018

Review: Nicki Minaj makes bumpy, late-night Seattle return

Michael Rietmulder

Concert review

Remember when hip-hop was supposedly a man’s game? Throughout its history, the genre has indeed been a male-dominated space. But gazing across the current landscape, a renaissance is clearly underway, with women like Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Ice Spice standing as some of hip-hop’s biggest new stars.

Nicki Minaj, an artist who came up alongside Drake as part of Lil Wayne’s Young Money Records, has achieved many firsts for female rappers. Since releasing her debut “Pink Friday” in 2010, Minaj has helped pave the bridge between the days when labels and crews made room for one (and only one) woman in their ranks and the recent wave of dominant female stars.

With a strong new album “Pink Friday 2” that produced the first chart-topping single for a solo female rap artist in more than two decades — the Rick James-sampling “Super Freaky Girl” — Minaj made her long-awaited return to Seattle for her first show since 2012. Playing to an amped sold-out crowd in Climate Pledge Arena the same night Hollywood gathered in Los Angeles for the Academy Awards, Minaj’s Emerald City return ran longer than an Oscars ceremony and featured even more Barbie-themed songs.

After waiting 12 years to see the so-called Queen of Rap (a crown we certainly will not challenge), Washington “Barbz,” as her fan base is known, waited a little longer on Sunday as Minaj took the stage at 10:15 p.m., more than two hours after the listed start time. (For what it’s worth, she hit the stage around the same time during her previous show in Las Vegas.)

It seemed all was forgiven by the time a statuesque Minaj emerged at the top of her three-tiered stage, standing like a Barbie in a display box, unflinchingly knocking out “I’m the Best” and the newer “Barbie Dangerous” as the crowd — dressed in pink at her majesty’s request — collectively lost it. Minaj kept her loopy bars in the newer “FTCU” on a tight leash, yanking her cadences tightly for effect over the twirling beat.

Throughout her set, there were moments of pure mastery. Minaj was fierce and commanding, harnessing the screw-loose cadences of her show-stealing verse on Kanye West’s “ Monster ” — the classic posse cut with Jay-Z and Rick Ross that announced her arrival to the broader rap world. It still stands as one of the most quintessential rap verses of the last 15 years.

For all the top-of-her-game moments like those on Sunday night, there were just as many (if not more) instances when Minaj seemed to be in early-tour mode, yielding too many of her bars to crowd singalongs or simply missing them altogether, despite several teleprompters on the stage. Returning from a wardrobe change for “Barbie World” — a collaboration with Ice Spice off the “Barbie” soundtrack directly connecting Minaj’s trailblazing legacy with one of contemporary rap’s new leading women — the stage crew wheeled Minaj in what looked like a futuristic phone booth late into the song as Minaj seemed to make a half-committed attempt at her vocals; that or she was dealing with mic issues.

While some of the set design and choreography was truly striking, a few of wardrobe/set changes came just two or three abbreviated songs apart, slowing some of the momentum like an extra commercial break.

One factor in Minaj’s later-than-usual start for a headlining set (at least at Climate Pledge Arena) is the Pink Friday 2 World Tour’s unconventional format. Instead of playing a traditional opening slot, supporting act Monica delivered a knockout six-song performance in the middle of Minaj’s set — a classy, reverential move to the ‘90s R&B great whom Minaj admired growing up .

After Monica’s commanding run, surprise guest Tyga kept the halftime party rolling with a short set of his own, including his signature 2011 hit “Rack City,” occasionally changing the lyrics to “Gag City” in reference to the pink-hued metropolis gracing the “Pink Friday 2” album cover.

Thirteen minutes after Tyga left the stage, a re-energized Minaj returned for an explosive closing run, led by “Super Freaky Girl” and the Sir Mix-A-Lot sampling “Anaconda” — a crunchy highlight that predictably set a Seattle crowd ablaze.

Airing some of her biggest crossover pop songs at the end, the audio confetti of 2012’s EDM-fueled “Starships” and her new Lil Uzi Vert-assisted “Everybody” made for an appropriately giddy send-off.

“Before we go,” Minaj began before her closing song, “I’d like to say, Seattle, you were everything I dreamed.”

For all the high points Sunday, we could’ve dreamed a little bigger for one of the most important women in modern hip-hop.

Every surprise song Taylor Swift has performed on the ‘Eras Tour’ so far

During every “Eras Tour” concert, there comes a time that audiences are always waiting for: surprise-song o’clock.

This is when Taylor Swift sits down with just a guitar and a piano to play acoustic versions of two songs — sometimes mashups, sometimes not — that change between each show. And fans don’t know what songs she’s chosen that night until the surprise-song set starts.

Swift just wrapped a string of six consecutive shows in Singapore from March 2-9, and will pick up her “Eras Tour” in Europe in the spring, starting with four shows in Paris beginning May 9 . During her break, Swift will release her 11th album, “The Tortured Poets Department” — which begs the question of if or how Swift will work this new record into her “Eras Tour” set list.

Last year, Swift said she’d aim not to repeat surprise songs during the “Eras Tour,” leaving fans to track each night’s performances like detectives, watching their favorite songs get picked off in the lead up to their own concert date.

But after Swift announced that she “reset” the eligibility of all songs for 2024 and introduced twists, it’s impossible to predict what she’ll do next.

Intrepid Swifties keeping record of all the songs Swift has performed have noted that, while there are several songs that have been played multiple times, there are some songs that the singer has not at all. Those include:

  • "Mary's Song"
  • "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "The Way I Loved You"
  • "Superstar"
  • "We Were Happy"
  • "That's When"
  • "Don't You"
