While there is no restriction on the carriage of Knee Defenders or similar devices, their use on board the aircraft is strictly prohibited. The use of such a device to prevent a seat in front from reclining alters the intended recline function of the Economy Class seat and interferes with the inflight experience SIA wishes to provide our passengers. For their comfort, all passengers may recline their seats during permitted phases of a flight. During meal service, cabin crew will as a courtesy, request for Economy Class seats to be put upright in consideration of the dining comfort of all passengers.

Electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes, personal vaporisers or electronic nicotine delivery systems are only allowed in carry-on baggage or on the person, where permitted by the applicable local laws. However, the use of e-cigarettes in the cabin is prohibited at all times. A lithium battery-powered e-cigarette is considered as a portable electronic device (PED) and is subject to the restrictions for carriage of PEDs. Each e-cigarette must not exceed 100 Wh or 2g lithium content. Up to a maximum of 15 pieces of PEDs are allowed in carry-on baggage and/or on the person. This includes the number of PEDs carried in checked baggage. Please note that it is illegal to buy, use and possess imitation tobacco products (such as e-cigarettes) in Singapore.

Lithium Batteries

How your lithium batteries are stored and their watt-hour (Wh) ratings determines whether or not they may travel by air.  Use the following guide to help you find out if your batteries are accepted on Singapore Airlines flights:

*Watt hours (Wh) = Amp hours (Ah) x Voltage (V) All batteries & battery-powered devices carried must be for personal use (not for resale or distribution by a vendor)

Additional Requirements

Singapore Airlines additional requirements for baggage restrictions

  • Battery-operated devices (not exceeding 100Wh) may be transported in checked baggage, but it is recommended that such devices be kept in cabin baggage.

Baggage Checks in the United States of America (USA)

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) stipulates that passengers travelling into and out of US commercial airports can no longer access their checked baggage once baggage screening is completed. Hence, we recommend that you remove all items you will need on board, before checking in your baggage.

TSA advises passengers to leave their baggage unlocked or use a TSA accepted and recognised lock to facilitate the search process. TSA will not be liable for any damage caused to locked bags if they are opened for screening. For bags opened during screening, the screeners will close it with a tamper-evident seal and insert a notice in your bag to inform you that the bag has been opened.

As this procedure is governed by US legislation and beyond the control of the airline, we regret that we cannot be held liable for damage or loss of items from your baggage. You may visit the Transportation Security Administration website for further information.

If you are travelling from airports that serve as the last points of departure to the United States, the TSA may require passengers to undergo enhanced security measures. Such checks may include the inspection of your Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) prior to carrying them onboard.

Singapore *always* gets me Home

It’s been now twice since US airlines have left me out hanging to dry — and each time, Singapore Airlines has taken Home and back. I’ve been making trips to my second home, Malaysia, since I was a child. It was only in the past six months in which a particular airline has either A., A poorly planned itinerary, or B., airlines tickets with myself and my 10yo son were booked on two different flights. For A, I received a call stating that I need a visa to enter Japan, so I had to burn the ticket. I used Singapore Airlines to get me Home the first time. For B, I got to Narita and had a transfer in Haneda. Got to Haneda and they informed me my son’s ticket and my ticket weren’t reissued at the same time, so my ticket was canceled and his we had to miss the flight. So there I was again, stuck — again, both times, I’ve used this phone app to make booking so painless and SQ was able to save my vacation. Nowadays, I don’t even care about the burned tickets; I will NEVER EVER use another US airline to get me to Asia. Thank you so much! Beautiful application with slick feel. As someone in IT with 10+ years experience — this is how it’s done. Everyone else take note, as all integrations work seamlessly. No lagging and infrastructure is tip-top.

Mobile App is extremely buggy

I tried to check in on my ticket flight. First time app says my reservation is not ticketed, then I tried again, it says check-in cannot be completed, yet it sent me an email that check-in is confirmed. 4th time it finally happened - who has the time to fiddle with the app so many times? It does not give a clean and satisfactory user experience, Nor inspires much confidence for future use. And when I tried to generate the boarding pass, the app returned saying it had problems sending a boarding pass, yet I received an email with my boarding pass - what gives? This really does not inspire much confidence on the world’s best airline.
Singapore flight was fine but the way they handled us last May, leaves me selecting other airlines. We booked our flight through Singapore airlines. They put us on Alaska airlines for the first part of our trip. We were to catch a connection in California which was then to bring us to Singapore. Alaska was running 15 minutes late. I contacted Singapore air and Alaska air. They assured me I would make my connections. However, when arriving in California, both Alaska air and Singapore air did not offer any assistance in getting to our connection. We arrived to the gate 15 minutes before flight take off but because they closed the door, we could not board. Singapore gate attendant was rude and told us we needed to sleep in the airport and they would get us on a flight the next day. It was our 40th Anniversary and we were to be in Australia to care for our grandson while my daughter was in labor. Singapore air didn’t care. They refused to allow us on the flight, which sat st the gate an additional 10 minutes while we were sitting right there. They refused to assist us in getting a place to sleep. Finally, Alaska air offered to put us up for the night. We did not book through Alaska air but they were the one who came to our help. Singapore air, who the entire booking was through, did nothing. Gate staff was very cold and rude. We will not fly with them again

Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

To enter Singapore, you need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of your intended stay. If you plan on regional travel beyond Singapore, make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond the date you plan to enter other countries in the region. You do not need a visa for tourist or business visits up to 90 days.

Visit the  Embassy of Singapore  website for the most current visa information.

The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors to Singapore. Foreign workers applying for an employment pass are required to undergo a medical screening for HIV/AIDS and a positive test will result in the rejection of a foreign worker’s application.

Find information on  dual nationality ,  prevention of international child abduction  and  customs regulations  on our websites.

COVID-19 Requirements: There are no COVID-related entry requirements for U.S. citizens.

Safety and Security

Criminal Penalties:  You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned.  Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

In Singapore, you may be taken in for questioning if you don’t have your passport with you. Travelers should be aware of the following penalties for certain crimes in Singapore:

·         Possible arrest for jaywalking, littering, or spitting

·         Mandatory caning (a form of physical punishment) for certain vandalism offenses

·         Possible imprisonment, caning, or fines for immigration violations

·         Possible imprisonment, caning or fines for sex crimes or sexually inappropriate behavior. Lewd, unwanted behavior, including inappropriate comments, messages, or photography toward women who find it offensive may result in fines and imprisonment (“Insulting the modesty of woman”). If there is unwanted physical contact of any kind involved (“Outrage of modesty,” molestation), the laws are gender neutral and punishments generally more severe.

·         Severe penalties for drug-related charges, including the death penalty or caning.

·         Strict penalties for those who illegally possess or carry firearms, or who commit crimes with firearms

If you are suspected of consuming or possessing illegal drugs , police may:

·         Conduct unannounced drug tests and property searches, including upon entry into Singapore

·         Require you to provide a urine or blood sample on short notice

A positive finding or an unwillingness to participate can lead to:

·         Denial of entry into Singapore

·         Detention

·         Confiscation of your passport while under investigation

Singaporean authorities may arrest and convict any permanent residents of Singapore even if they have consumed illegal drugs outside of Singapore.

Singapore does not recognize dual nationality beyond the age of 22, and it strictly enforces universal national service for all male citizens and permanent residents. To determine if you have a national service obligation, contact the  Ministry of Defense.

Drunk and disorderly conduct can lead to a SG$1,000 fine or imprisonment. It is illegal to drink alcohol in a public place between 10:30 pm and 7:00 am. The areas of Geylang and Little India are designated as “Liquor Control Zones” where drinking in public places is prohibited all weekend, on public holidays, and on the eve of public holidays.

Public Demonstrations:  Public demonstrations are legal only at Speakers’ Corner in Hong Lim Park. Most outdoor public assemblies require a police permit. Singapore forbids foreign nationals who do not have permanent resident status from participating in or observing permitted public demonstrations, assemblies, and processions at Speakers’ Corner. Penalties may be severe, including large fines and/or imprisonment.

Some laws are also prosecutable in the United States, regardless of local law. For examples, see our website on  crimes against minors abroad  and the  Department of Justice  website.

Arrest Notification:  If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy immediately. See our  webpage  for further information.

Faith-Based Travelers:  The Singapore Convention of Jehovah’s Witness and the Unification Church are banned by the Singapore government. All written materials published by the International Bible Students Association and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, publishing arms of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, remain banned. Possible penalties include fines and imprisonment.

LGBTI Travelers:  Singapore does not recognize same-sex unions. The Penal Code criminalizes any “act of gross indecency” between two men and prescribes a sentence not exceeding two years for those found guilty under this law. The Singaporean government has stated that it will not enforce this section of the Penal Code but it remains on the statute books. The government restricts foreigners from involvement in public events that champion LGBTI issues. LGBTI individuals may have difficulty gaining employment in certain sectors of the civil service. The  Ministry of Manpower  does not issue dependent passes (work permits) to partners in lesbian and gay relationships, even if legally married in another country.

See our  LGBTI Travel Information  page and section 6 of our  Human Rights report  for further details.

Travelers with Disabilities: The law in Singapore does not explicitly prohibit discrimination against persons with disabilities. Social acceptance of persons with disabilities in public is as prevalent as in the United States. The most common types of accessibility include accessible facilities, information, and access to services. Expect accessibility to be common in public transportation, lodging, communication/information, and general infrastructure.

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties:  You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, imprisoned, or even caned.

Furthermore, some laws are also prosecutable in the U.S., regardless of local law. For examples, see our website on  crimes against minors abroad  and the  Department of Justice  website.

  • Possible arrest for jaywalking, littering, or spitting
  • Mandatory caning (a form of corporal punishment) for certain vandalism offenses

If there is unwanted physical contact of any kind involved (“Outrage of modesty”, molestation), the laws are gender neutral and punishments generally more severe.
  • Severe penalties for drug-related charges, including the death penalty or caning.
  • Strict penalties for those who illegally possess or carry firearms, or who commit crimes with firearms

Singaporean authorities may conduct unannounced drug tests and property searches, including upon entry into the country, on foreign citizens who are suspected of consuming or possessing illegal drugs. Police may require you to provide a urine or blood sample on short notice. A positive finding or an unwillingness to participate can lead to a denial of entry into Singapore, detention and/or confiscation of your passport while under an investigation. Singaporean authorities may arrest and convict any permanent residents of Singapore even if they have consumed illegal drugs outside of Singapore.

Singapore does not recognize dual nationality beyond the age of 22, and it strictly enforces universal national service for all male citizens and permanent residents. To determine if you will have a national service obligation, you should contact the Ministry of Defense .

Drunk and disorderly conduct is treated seriously, and can lead to a fine or imprisonment. As of April 1, 2015, it is illegal to drink alcohol in a public place between 10:30 pm and 7:00 am. The areas of Geylang and Little India are designated as “Liquor Control Zones” where drinking in public places is prohibited all weekend, on public holidays, and on the eve of public holidays. Under the Liquor Control Act, you could be fined up to SG$1,000 for consuming alcohol in a public place during prohibited hours.

Public Demonstrations:  Public demonstrations are legal only at Speakers’ Corner in Hong Lim Park and most outdoor public assemblies require a police permit. Singapore amended its laws in April 2017 to forbid foreign nationals who are not permanent residents from observing permitted public demonstrations, assemblies, and processions at Speakers’ Corner. The law does not distinguish between participants and observers, so anyone at Speakers’ Corner could be considered part of an event. Penalties may be severe, including large fines and/or imprisonment.

Faith-Based Travelers:  The Singapore Convention of Jehovah’s Witness and the Unification Church continue to be banned by the Singapore government. All written materials published by the International Bible Students Association and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, publishing arms of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, remained banned by the government.

See our following webpages for additional Faith-based traveling details:

The Penal Code criminalizes any “act of gross indecency” between two men and prescribes a sentence not exceeding two years for those found guilty under this law. The Singaporean government has stated that it will not enforce this section of the Penal Code but it remains on the statute books. The government issues permits for open air events that openly champion LGBTI issues on a limited basis but new regulations restrict foreign involvement. LGBTI individuals may have difficulty gaining employment in certain sectors of the civil service. The  Ministry of Manpower  does not issue dependent passes (work permits) to partners in lesbian and gay relationships, even if legally married in another country.

Travelers Who Require Accessibility Assistance:  Singapore has established a comprehensive code of standards for barrier-free accessibility, including facilities for persons with physical disabilities, in all new buildings and has mandated the progressive upgrading of older structures. Good medical care is widely available in Singapore. Doctors and hospitals:

  • expect immediate, up-front payment for health services by credit card or cash
  • generally do not accept U.S. health insurance
  • may require a substantial deposit before admitting you for any major medical treatment.

U.S. Embassy Singapore maintains information on doctors and hospitals here . We do not endorse or recommend any specific medical provider or clinic.

In certain circumstances, the Ministry of Health may access patient medical records without the consent of the patient, and in certain circumstances physicians may be required to report information relating to the diagnosis or treatment without the patient's consent.

Employment pass holders are subject to medical exams and may be denied or deported on medical grounds, including for HIV infection.

For emergency services in Singapore, dial 955.

Ambulance services are widely available. We do not pay medical bills. Be aware that U.S. Medicare does not apply overseas. Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance:  Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. See our webpage for more information on insurance coverage.

Visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for more information on type of insurance you should consider before you travel overseas. We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription. Check with Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority to ensure the medication is legal in Singapore.

Vaccinations:  Be up-to-date on all  vaccinations  recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Health facilities in general:

  • Adequate health facilities are available throughout the country.
  • Hospitals and doctors may require payment “up front” prior to service or admission.
  • Private hospitals usually require advance payment or proof of adequate insurance before admitting a patient.

Medical Tourism and Elective Surgery:

  • Visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for information on Medical Tourism, the risks of medical tourism, and what you can do to prepare before traveling to Singapore.
  • We strongly recommend supplemental insurance  to cover medical evacuation in the event of unforeseen medical complications.

Pharmaceuticals:

  • Exercise caution when purchasing medication overseas. Pharmaceuticals, both over the counter and requiring prescription in the United States, are often readily available for purchase with little controls. Counterfeit medication is common and may prove to be ineffective, the wrong strength, or contain dangerous ingredients. Medication should be purchased in consultation with a medical professional and from reputable establishments.
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Food and Drug Administration are responsible for rules governing the transport of medication back to the United States. Medication purchased abroad must meet their requirements to be legally brought back into the United States. Medication should be for personal use and must be approved for usage in the United States. Please visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Food and Drug Administration websites for more information.

Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy:

  • If you are considering traveling to Singapore to have a child through use of assisted reproductive technology (ART) or surrogacy, please see our ART and Surrogacy Abroad page .
  • Surrogacy is illegal for foreigners in Singapore, subject to complex local regulation. For additional information, visit the Government of Singapore’s website for information on foreigner surrogacy.

SIA closes Moscow office, over a year after flights to city suspended

singapore airlines travel info

SINGAPORE – Singapore Airlines (SIA) has closed its office in Moscow, more than a year after flights to the city were suspended indefinitely.

An SIA spokesman told The Straits Times on Wednesday that the “effective closure date” of the Moscow office was May 15.

The spokesman did not provide details on the closure, but said that the airline would continue to be represented in Russia by its general sales agent Aviareps.

SIA had announced the suspension of return services from Moscow on Feb 28, 2022, citing “operational reasons”.

This came four days after Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on Feb 24.

Singapore Airlines resumes alternative Europe route after 20 years

S ingapore Airlines has recommenced flying to Brussels from its hub, Changi Airport, 20 years or so after the carrier stopped the service, in large part due to the SARS outbreak.

It now operates four weekly flights to Brussels on Airbus A350-900s, which feature 253 seats including 42 in business class, 24 in premium economy and 187 in economy.

SQ304 departs Singapore for Brussels on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 11.55pm, with the return, SQ303, departing Brussels for Singapore on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 12.10pm.

The capital of Belgium is also the home country of the European Union and NATO.

For Australians, the 13-hour flight represents a convenient way to access Belgium, including its World War I pilgrimage sites and the Western Front Way.

It’s also an alternative entry point into north-western Europe to the busier, bigger Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Paris’ Charles de Gaulle.

With the latter expecting an influx of visitors for the Olympic Games commencing July 26, Brussels tourism is anticipating an overflow effect – the charming capital is less than 90 minutes from its French counterpart via high-speed Eurostar train. Many other places are easily reached by rail from Brussels. (Qantas flies to Brussels but on a codeshare such as with British Airways via Singapore and London Heathrow.)

Singapore Airlines’ graduated return to full strength post-pandemic continues across the European summer, with the reintroduction of Barcelona, Spain, to its destination roster, as well as increased capacity between Singapore and Frankfurt, Germany, with an A380 swinging into action on the route, and Copenhagen, Denmark, where service is expanding from five times a week to daily.

In Australia, Singapore Airlines has reinstated its Perth-Singapore service to its pre-pandemic schedule of four times a week. In late May, it will introduce an extra service to Melbourne, meeting the pre-pandemic rate of five flights daily.

Since March, the airline has also been travelling between Singapore and Darwin at an increased rate of five times weekly. Competitor Jetstar no longer services this route, but Qantas began flying it in December, five times a week.

Qantas has announced a new non-stop Perth-Paris service. It will operate four days a week during the peak European summer, from July 12. It’s on a 787 Dreamliner, is a 17-hour flight, and the airline’s second between the West Australian capital and Europe, the first being Rome, Italy.

The airline’s Perth to London flights are temporarily going through Singapore in order to avoid Iranian airspace due to conflict in the region. Qantas is currently set to resume non-stop flights on that route from April 28.

The writer travelled to Brussels as a guest of Singapore Airlines.

Singapore Airlines has recommenced its direct service to Brussels.

City Description

Singapore, the center of global business.

도시소개 이미지

Singapore is the hub of global business and at the same time a city-state where people of diverse ethnicities live together while preserving their distinct cultures. The country has the exotic sounds of the tropical rain forest, the appearance of an international city with a highly developed gourmet culture, shopping, and more, and is also a mecca of leisure activities. Due to a lack of resources, it has grown to become an economically rich country through international trade and an open economy. Singapore plans to increase its population to 6.9 million (currently 5.3 million) by 2030, suggesting that growth will continue and various infrastructures will be built. Many expect it to become a true city state that constantly changes over time.

Suggested Itinerary

* You can download the suggested itinerary in PDF.

It leads to Bugis Street and Albert Street, and you can see vivacious people selling tropical fruits, clothes, and miscellaneous goods.

It is a very unique place with a narrow, 100 m-long alley where Islamic culture remains intact.

It is a region where Indian immigrants from the British colonial era in the 1820s settled in. You can experience a hint of India in this “little India.”

Tourists pour in to buy imported medicines from China, traditional handicrafts, and tea.

You can see Singapore’s most iconic landmark, the Merlion statue, beaches, amusement parks, and an insect conservatory. It is neatly decorated with tropical flora and bushes for your enjoyment.

It is the first universal studio in Southeast Asia and consists of 7 theme zones and 24 rides.

Located 3 km from Orchard Station and Somerset Station, it is the largest shopping district in Singapore with hotels, shopping centers, and department stores.

It is a botanical park built along the reclaimed Marina Bay in southern Singapore. The park has the optimal environment equipped with electronic systems to preserve flora including plants that do not grown in the hot, highly humid Singapore climate and endangered plants.

There are many restaurant and cafe buildings along the Singapore River which are warehouses that have been renovated. Here, you can throw the heat and stress to the winds just by gazing at the night view of the river.

Taking a bus on a day pass to see all corners of the city is a very economical option.

In the vicinity of the City Hall Station, you can see various sides of Singapore from past to present through old-fashioned buildings and modern structures that blend well together.

Clarke Quay is the hub of trade and the haven of outdoor cafes.

Moscow Flight Information

Plan your visit to moscow.

Moscow is an amazing city with colorful cathedrals, famous landmarks and a hint of modern influences. When you visit this majestic city, you will see some of the world's most beautiful architectural masterpieces. If you're looking for cheap flights to Moscow, visit Orbitz.com, where you can get a great deal every day.

Major Airports

Russia is a large country with many airports, and three of them are located within an hour of Moscow. When you arrive, you will likely land at Sheremetyevo International Airport, Domodedovo International Airport or Vnukovo International Airport. Sheremetyevo is about 35 minutes from downtown, and you can take the city bus to town for 28 to 70 rubles. Domodedovo is about 45 minutes from the city, and you can take a train, bus, shuttle or taxi to Moscow from this location. Vnukovo is about 30 minutes southwest of the downtown area. It is the third-busiest airport in the country and handles more than 9 million passengers annually. Board the Aeroexpress Train for the fastest service into the city.

Enjoying Moscow

The weather in Moscow varies greatly by season. Summer highs can soar into the upper 90s and hit 100 degrees Fahrenheit, while winter lows fall below freezing. April and October see pleasant temperatures in the 70s and 80s, so this is a great time to visit. Even the warmest months can have chilly evenings, so bring a sweater or jacket, even in the summer. Winter travelers will need to pack a heavy coat and plenty of warm clothing. St. Basil's Cathedral is one of the city's must-see attractions. This amazing structure was built for Ivan the Terrible in the 1500s and is regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Located in the city's center, Red Square is an ideal place to begin your exploration. From there, explore the Kremlin and other historic sights. Before you head home, stop by the Bolshoi Theatre and see the world-famous Russian ballet dancers perform.

Book Your Tickets

Save time and money with the help of Orbitz.com. You can find a wealth of information to help you plan a successful trip and cheap flights to Moscow. Moscow is an enchanting city with stunning views and breathtaking scenery. No matter when you visit, you are sure to enjoy everything this great city has to offer.

Moscow When to Go

June, July, and August are the most crowded months in Moscow, and getting into popular attractions like the Kremlin can be difficult. It’s worth braving the crowds, though, to see the golden domes, bright white bell tower, intricate Fabergé eggs, and the rest of the impressive complex. There are sure to be crowds in Red Square during the summer, too, but you can’t miss St. Basil’s fairytale-like Cathedral, Lenin’s Mausoleum, the fanciful Kazan Cathedral, and the popular, upscale GUM shopping mall. Keep an eye on the forecast. Temperatures in summer reach into the 90s and it’s the rainiest period in Moscow.

Spring is shoulder season in Moscow, as well as a pretty time to visit. The flowers around the city come into bloom. To celebrate the end of a long winter, Maslenitsa, a religious and folk holiday, ushers in the new season with pancake feasts, traditional (and friendly!) fist fighting, bonfires, and other celebrations. Temperatures warm up to the 50s and 60s during the day, so enjoy a visit to one of Moscow’s many parks; there are almost 300 square feet of parks per person here. Kolomenskoye is a nice one, with a beautiful church that dates back to 1532.

Tourists are in shorter supply during the winter due to Moscow’s notorious cold, but if you enjoy a snowy landscape, pack some warm boots and go. The Russian Winter Festival at the end of December and beginning of January is a fun way to celebrate the best of the season—troika rides, ice hockey games, snowmen, and plenty of warm tea. Especially in winter, make use of the (heated) Metro public transit. Many of the underground stations feature art, including statues, stained glass windows, mosaics, and chandeliers.
