FC Barcelona return to the United States for preseason tour

The FC Barcelona men’s first team will repeat the last season’s destination and travel once again to the United States for their preseason tour, BARÇA ON TOUR: US 2023, in which they will play a total of four matches, all against European opposition. The first two games will be played in California; 22 July against Juventus in Santa Clara, San Francisco Bay Area, and on 26 July against Arsenal FC. The last two games will take place in Dallas Texas, for the clash with Real Madrid on 29 July and in Las Vegas where the tour will conclude with a game against AC Milan.  

The US Summer Tour 2022 saw the Barça play on the East Coast with games in Miami and New York – as well as games in Las Vegas and Dallas – cities which hosted the majority of the Club’s institutional and social activities. This year the geographical emphasis has shifted to the West Coast where the majority of the Club’s activities will take place and where they will play three of their four scheduled games.  

The blaugranes’ debut on the tour will come on 22 July against Juventus in the Levis Stadium, Santa Clara in San Francisco, home of the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers. It will be the third time that Barça have played at the venue which has room for 68,000 fans following matches against Manchester United in 2015 and AC Milan in 2018. The most recent encounter between Barça and Juventus came in a friendly last season on tour, the game ended in a 2-2 draw.  

The other games in California will come against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side on 26 July in the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Los Angeles, a venue opened in 2020 with a capacity of 70,000 and the ground where the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams of the NFL play their home matches. The fixture between the two sides will be their first in seven seasons, the last meeting having come in the last sixteen of the UEFA Champions League in 2016 in which Barça won 2-0 in London and 3-1 at Spotify Camp Nou. The game will also be the first on American soil between the two clubs.  

Another Clásico in Arlington, Texas  

The summer tour this year will also include one of the most awaited matches for the fans, the Clásico, the third meeting between Barça and Real Madrid in the USA. He game will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas which has a capacity of 80,000 and is home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. The venue is one that Barça have visited twice previously; in 2011 against Manchester United and in 2018 against AS Roma. In their two previous games against Real Madrid in the US, Barça have come out on top both times: winning 3-2 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in 2017 and 1-0 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in 2022.  

The Allegiant Stadium, which holds 65,000 fans, will be the venue for the final game of the tour for Xavi Hernández’s men against AC Milan, the third game on the west coast. The two teams have met on two previous occasions on US soil with a 2-0 win for Barça in 2003 in Washington and a 1-0 win for the Italians in 2018 in Santa Clara.

These four games during BARÇA ON TOUR: US 2023 are part of the Soccer Champions Tour, a tournament put together by Sixth Street in collaboration with Legends and AEG, and in which, aside from Barça and their four opponents on the tour, Manchester United will also be participating.  

The USA, a popular destination for blaugrana preseason  

This summer’s tour will be the 14 th in FC Barcelona history to the USA (the first in 1937 was key in the Club’s survival), a country that has become a popular destination in recent years with tours taking place in 2011, 2015, 2017, 2018, the latter being a joint tour with the women’s team, as well as 2019 and 2022.  

In fact, the North American market in a key priority for the globalisation and expansion the Barça brand. Football is undergoing a great period of growth in the USA that trend will hopefully continue with the next World Cup in 2026 taking place on North American soil. Furthermore, FC Barcelona opened a US office in New York in 2016 and continues its efforts to build a greater connection with its existing fans and win more followers and reach agreements with local sponsors to help develop even further the country’s footballing ecosystem.

Barcelona confirm 2023 travelling squad for tour of the US

The Barcelona squad are set to fly to California today for the start of their US tour, and Xavi has confirmed the travelling squad he’ll be taking with him.

One name is missing and that’s Nico Gonzalez, the youth midfielder who is set to leave Barca this summer on loan, with Porto reportedly interested in bringing him in.

There is a place for both Franck Kessie and Clement Lenglet, both of whom have been heavily linked with a move away to Juventus and Tottenham respectively.

There is also plenty of youth in the team with the likes of Abde, Lopez, Faye, Yamal, Ander Astralaga, Alex Valle and Aleix Garrido.

As we reported yesterday , Abde is going to be given every opportunity to stake a claim to a first-team place after impressing at the U23 AFCON championships with Morocco.

Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres are embarking on a key summer with Barcelona, after both having a rocky start to their Barcelona careers.

New signings İlkay Gündoğan, Inigo Martinez and Oriol Romeu will make the trip too.

Barcelona US Tour Schedule 2023

The Barca side is set to land in California this evening with their first training session held tomorrow at the LA Memorial Coliseum.

They will then run the gauntlet over the pre-season, facing a number of European powerhouses designed to prepare the team for the rigours of a busy season.

FC Barcelona has confirmed, through a statement, that it will play four friendly matches in the United States during the 2023-2024 preseason, as had already happened in 2022

In the frame of the 'Barça on Tour: US 2023' , the Barcelona entity has confirmed his turns by the American continent like part of his pre-season 2023-2024. They repeat the destination of the past year and have announced clashes of maximum level to prepare the commitments of the following course. Between 22 July and 1 August, the ones of Xavi Hernández will contest four parties.

Barcelona’s US pre-season tour likely to take place between July 19-30

Much like last year, FC Barcelona will once again embark on a trip to the United States of America for their pre-season camp before the start of the 2023/24 season.

The Blaugrana toured the US last year and played four matches in Miami, Las Vegas, Dallas and New York.

Now, SPORT has provided an update on the possible schedule for this year’s tour of the United States.

As per the report, the pre-season camp will likely start on July 19 and go on until July 30. Upon returning, it would give ample time to the players to prepare for the season which starts on the weekend of August 12/13.

Unlike last season, when they racked up miles travelling from city to city across the country, Barcelona plan to follow the model of their rivals Real Madrid and set up a base camp at some place on the West Coast and play the matches in nearby venues.

The Blaugrana plan to play three or four matches on their trip to the US. One of those games, much like last year, will be the Clasico against Real Madrid . Furthermore, it is being claimed that the match between the arch-rivals could again be played at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Apart from Real Madrid, Barcelona are also likely to face Juventus while AC Milan could also be a possible opponent for Xavi Hernandez & co.

Before flying off the US, though, the Blaugrana will be travelling to Asia or Australia for a post-season friendly, like last season when they played a game against the A-League All Stars.

FC Barcelona planning a tour to the United States

Following the conclusion of the 2022/2023 football season in Spain, Mundo Deportivo reports that FC Barcelona are looking towards a proposed pre-season tour to the United States of America. Scheduled to take place in July of 2023, it would see Xavi’s men visit the country once again following their previous tour in the summer of 2022.

A major reasoning for the tour happens to be Barcelona’s economic situation. Finding a diverse plethora of revenue streams is currently a major objective for the Catalan giants, and tours such as the one being reported are a good avenue to increase their revenue generation.

Similar to the last time they traveled to the United States , FC Barcelona are expected to face the other two Super League advocates alongside them: Real Madrid and Juventus. Moreover, this time around, the Super League project seems like a much more approachable concept for teams that previously ended up opposing it, courtesy of the rulings in favor of the project made by legal authorities that frustrated UEFA and other domestic entities.

Furthermore, an expected favorable ruling by the Court of Luxembourg can also prove to be vital in making more and more clubs feel that the Super League project is actually an approachable outlet and may be reviewed.

However, Barcelona do intend on decreasing the length of their tour this time around in comparison to their 15-day period during their previous journey. Instead of taking part in 4 different games, it is rumored to be a 3-game tour during this visit.

The venues for this tour will reportedly be previously visited New York City, potentially the SoFi stadium in Los Angeles, and a third venue located somewhere North of the country this time around.

Barcelona will return to the United States this summer for a third preseason in succession, with a blockbuster clash against El Clasico rivals Real Madrid on the schedule.

Barca will compete in the Soccer Champions Tour competition alongside four other elite European clubs, with games in Orlando, New Jersey and Baltimore. The likes of Pedri, Gavi and Robert Lewandowski will be in action for Barca as it ramps up preparations for the 2024-25 La Liga season, with games against top opposition giving fans a chance to see many of their heroes in action.

It promises to be an incredible summer for fans of European soccer in the Unites States, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool also heading stateside for the majority of their preseason schedules.

Barca’s American tour in 2023 focused predominantly on the west side of the country, with games in Los Angeles and Las Vegas before a trip to Dallas. A friendly against Juventus in Santa Clara, California was also on the slate but was canceled due to an illness that ripped through the camp on the day of the game.

This time, fans on the East Coast will be at the heart of the action as Barca begin a new era. A new head coach will be in charge for the preseason tour, with Xavi announcing he will step down at the end of this season, with his team lagging behind Real Madrid in the La Liga title race.

But the future looks bright for the club, with a host of supremely talented youngsters getting their chance to shine and they are sure to be on the field in the Unites States this summer. Here is everything you need to know about the games, locations and tickets…

The schedule

Five of Europe’s top clubs are taking part in the competition, with Barca joined by Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and AC Milan. Each team will play three games, with six stadiums being used.

Barca’s schedule begins at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on July 30 when it takes on former manager Pep Guardiola and Man City. On August 3, Barcelona and Real will compete in the fourth El Classico on American shores when they meet at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Aug. 3.

The final game of Barca’s preseason tour of the US comes on Aug. 6 when it takes on AC Milan at M&T Bank Stadium, home of NFL franchise the Baltimore Ravens.

Tickets are yet to go on sale and prices are yet to be revealed, but fans can sign up for a presale by registering on the Soccer Champions Tour website. For fans wanting to watch the action from home, broadcast details are yet to be announced.

Man City 2024 USA tour fixtures confirmed with four glamour opponents including Barcelona

P ep Guardiola will be reunited with Barcelona in the summer, with four pre-season fixtures announced as part of Manchester City's 2024/25 summer tour.

City will potentially play in front of around 250,000 fans across four fixtures in July and August, taking place in North Carolina, New York, Orlando and Ohio. Last month, MEN Sport revealed City's plans to tour America for the second time in three years, with the club now confirming four fixtures across 12 days.

In 2025, City will be back in the USA for the newly-revamped Club World Cup, qualifying for that tournament having won the Champions League last season. The club enjoyed a lucrative tour to Houston and Green Bay in 2022 as Erling Haaland made his first appearance for the club, before earning around £15m from their tour of Japan and South Korea last summer.

Who will City play?

Kicking off this summer's tour in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on July 23, City will take on Scottish giants Celtic at the 50,000-capacity Kenan Stadium. After that, the Blues travel to New York, where they will face AC Milan at the iconic Yankee Stadium on July 27.

Sister club New York City FC have played fixtures there since 2015, as they wait for a bespoke stadium to be built, and the MLS side will play a game the following day at the same venue. City played at the Yankee Stadium 10 years ago against Liverpool .

Three days later on July 30, the Blues fly down to Orlando, Florida, to take on Guardiola's old side Barcelona. While they could still meet in the Champions League final, the summer contest could be the first meeting between the sides since a mid-season friendly in August 2022 at the Nou Camp. The fixture will see Guardiola reunited with his old side, and City players facing former captain Ilkay Gundogan.

Joao Cancelo is currently on loan at Barcelona and has expressed a desire to remain there next season. Last summer, he played for City against Bayern Munich in Tokyo having spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Bayern. He is under contract at the Etihad until 2027.

Finally, City will travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Chelsea at the 100,000-capacity Ohio Stadium. That clash with this season's FA Cup semi-final opponents will be played on August 3, before the Blues return to the UK. They will hope to play in the Community Shield, which is likely to take place a week later on August 10, before the Premier League season begins on the weekend of August 17.

Why are City going back to the USA?

Peter Laundy, Senior Vice President Partnerships at City Football Group, said: “We are pleased to announce the details of our 2024/25 preseason tour today as we prepare to return to America with an exciting four-match series delivered in collaboration with FC Series this summer.

“Our 2022 pre-season visit to the United States was hugely successful, including our sell-out fixture at Lambeau Field, Green Bay and the Club’s presence, fan base and status continues to grow significantly within the region. We can’t wait to play more matches, deliver more unique experiences and opportunities for our fans across the country to enjoy with Manchester City when we return later this year.”

What about the Club World Cup next year?

City qualified for the new-look 2025 Club World Cup in the USA by winning the 2023 Champions League. The new-look tournament will be a 32-team edition mirroring the FIFA World Cup.

They will be in the states for that tournament, which takes place between June 15 and July 13. No venues or schedules have been announced yet, although City know they could face Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG, Inter Milan, Juventus or Borussia Dortmund among others. Urawa Red Diamonds and Fluminense, who City beat to win the 2023 Club World Cup, are also among the 22 sides already qualified.

How to watch the US tour games and how to get tickets?

City will show all the games on City+, subject to certain restrictions, as well as live coverage of press conferences and training sessions. They will also produce their regular Matchday Live shows on the tours. Tickets for the games will be announced in due course.

8. Barça have played five friendlies over the years against Arsenal, and have won them all, but this will be the first on American soil.

9. This is the second year in a row that there's a Clásico in the US, and the third since 2017. Barça and Madrid first met in Miami, winning 3-2 thanks to goals from Messi, Rakitic and Piqué . And last year in Las Vegas, the only goal in a 1-0 win was scored by Raphinha .

10. Milan will the last team Barça plays and it will be in the same Las Vegas stadium that hosted the game with Real Madrid a year ago. In two previous games with Milan in America, Barça won 2-1 in Washington in 2003 and lost 1-0 in 2018 in Santa Clara.

Real Madrid 2024 USA pre-season tour: Where is Real Madrid playing this summer in the US?

Los blancos confirmed a pre-season tour of the united states, but where are their games and when will they be played.

El Clásico is, once again, coming to the US . Real Madrid confirmed their plans to host a pre-season tour in the United States and will travel across the country showcasing the squad of the 14-time Champions League winners in what has become something of a tradition for the club. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have travelled to the US before, but this year will see them embark on their most exciting tour yet .

Madrid are currently fighting for the LaLiga title and the Champions League, but as soon as their season finishes, plans will be put into action to get the squad rested and recovered for the new season .

AC Milan, 31 July, Soldier Field Stadium, Chicago

Madrid’s first match in the Soccer Champions Tour 2024 will be against legendary Italian side, AC Milan . Stefano Pioli’s side have been a force to be reckoned with in recent seasons, having seen players such as Christian Pulisic take a huge leap forward and propel them to second in Serie A.

Madrid played against AC Milan in a pre-season friendly in 2021 , where the two sides were held to a goalless draw in Austria. The game was David Alaba’s debut in the Madridista shirt. More recently, the two sides played in 2023, with the Spaniards coming away with a slim 3-2 win, thanks to a late Vinicius Jr goal.

Barcelona, 3 August, MetLife Stadium, New York

The second game to be played will be the big one. Barcelona and Real Madrid will play each other in a US El Clásico at the end of July in New York’s MetLife Stadium . The last time the world’s biggest fixture was brought stateside, it was a whitewash from the Catalans, who saw Dembelé, Fermín and Ferran scored to make it 3-0 in a game that saw Ancelotti’s side have a whopping 29 shots.

Chelsea, 6 August, Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte

Real Madrid have plenty of recent history with Chelsea . They played back in the Champions League in the 21/22 season, with Los Blancos securing a memorable passage through to the semi-finals in extremis . Since then, the fortunes of both clubs have gone in opposite directions, with Real Madrid vying for the title while the London club struggling for form domestically and finding themselves in mid-table in the Premier League standings , behind the likes of Fulham and West Ham United.

A total of five teams will take part in the tournament . As well as the teams that Real Madrid will face in their part of the tour, Manchester City will also be involved , taking on both Barcelona and AC Milan.

Given the busy summer , Ancelotti’s team will have an extraordinarily short training camp , which will not take place in the usual UCLA training camp. The Euros take place between June 14 and July 14; the Olympic Games are from July 26 to August 11; the possible European Super Cup is set to be held on August 14, meaning the three matches instead of four will be played in a seven-day period .

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea and AC Milan will all take part in the Soccer Champions Tour 2024 in the USA this summer.

Matches will be held in New York, East Rutherford, Orlando, Baltimore, Chicago and Charlotte.

Madrid and Barcelona will play three games each, including a Clasico at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium on August 3.
