Cruise Ship Ports - Full List & Map of US Departures [2023]

Here is a complete list of US Cruise Ship Ports We've also included a map. This should help find your nearest options for cruise daparture ports.

When deciding which cruise is perfect for your next vacation, one of the most important factors is "departure port." We're constantly asked the following.

What is the closest cruise ship port to me?

Many cruisers start our search based on closest port . In an ideal world, our cruise would depart from one of the U.S. cruise port within driving distance.

Once we get out of range, we have to start planning flights , ubers , and hotels . That adds a whole level of complexity and additional costs that we'd prefer to avoid.

Check out the map and list below to find your closest cruise port.

Make sure to pin that list to your "Cruise Search" board for easy reference!

Here's a complete list below by state. Also provided are links to find more detail on each departure port as well as links to shore excursions for each.

Cruise comeback: How South Florida's cruising industry bounced back

Not only has cruising bounced back, but cruise lines and ports are seeing more passengers than ever before.

When the COVID-19 pandemic stopped the world in its tracks back in 2020, the cruising industry was among those hit the hardest.

The images were broadcast across the world -- cruise ships filled with passengers and crew members quarantined -- all before the virus even had its official name.

However, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava says work continued on land, to prepare for the eventual comeback we are witnessing in 2024.

"I think we use that period to really do planning, engagement -- make sure that we could build back better," Levine Cava explained. "And the industry is growing worldwide. People love to cruise the appetite for cruising is insatiable. So we are very fortunate that we are the beneficiaries of this growth."

Icon of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, arrives at PortMiami

Not only has cruising bounced back, but cruise lines and ports are seeing more passengers than ever before.

"Cruising is back. The industry is stronger than ever," Port Director and Port Miami CEO Hydi Webb said. "Passengers have pent up demand to be back out at sea."

Webb says the local community was especially confident that cruising would bounce back.

"The industry, the port, Miami Dade County have always believed in the comeback," Webb added. "We never stopped building during COVID. As soon as COVID was over, we opened up three new cruise terminals."

South Florida is home to two of the busiest ports in the world -- Port Miami is number one on the list and dubbed as the cruise capital of the world.

Not far behind is Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, at No. 3.

"We recovered 29 different ships during the shutdown and then worked with the cruise lines to put that confidence back in place for the for the public," Port Everglades Acting Director Glenn Wiltshire explained.

Combined more than 10 million passengers set sail from the two ports. Port Miami even set a new mark for passenger travel in 2023.

“We now have the record for the world at almost 7.3 million passengers. That is really extraordinary, especially post COVID,” Levine Cava said.

While some of those 10 million passengers are from right here in South Florida, many of them are from across the globe.

Wiltshire says Port Everglades conducted an impact analysis in 2023 and found that the average family spends about $900 either before or after their cruise here in town -- providing a valuable boost to the local economy.

Plus, the ports and cruise lines also provide jobs for thousands of South Floridians.

"Port Everglades from a cruise impact, just for example -- 2500 jobs in the community over $600 million of economic activity and just the multiplier effect of all those people coming into town," Wiltshire continued.

The future is even brighter, with expansion and construction already underway to welcome new ships, new terminals and new passengers to South Florida.

"We have another the world's largest cruise terminal under construction right now on the east end of the port in conjunction with MSC Cruises, Webb said on Port Miami. "It will be the world's largest cruise terminal able to accommodate three vessels ultimately at one time from three different cruise lines."

Disney Cruise Line revealed the name of its next ship, the Disney Destiny, along with details about ... [+] its design theme, “Heroes and Villains.” The ship, sister to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, will draw on the legacy of beloved Disney stories, characters and theme park attractions to forge a cruise vacation that will empower guests to embrace their own calling aboard every unforgettable voyage. (Disney)

Disney Cruise Line continues its rapid expansion with the reveal of the third Triton-class ship name and theme. The ship will be called the Disney Destiny, be themed after heroes and villains and is scheduled to be delivered in 2025.

The new ship continues Disney’s commitment to its cruise line , which launched the first Triton class ship, the Disney Wish in 2022 and is getting ready to launch a second, the Disney Treasure in December 2024. The cruise line also bought and is currently renovating a partially built ship to be called the Disney Adventure, which will homeport in Singapore. Disney bought the Adventure for a reported $44 million after Genting Cruise Lines fell into administration.

Disney Cruise Line revealed the name of its next ship, the Disney Destiny, as it reached a new ... [+] construction milestone today with the keel laying ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. With the good luck garnered by this maritime tradition, this sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure is beginning to take shape. (Omark Reyes, photographer)

About The Disney Destiny

The design theme of Disney Destiny will continue Disney’s legacy of storytelling by drawing inspiration from movies, characters and theme park attractions. According to a press release, “The Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney Imagineering teams were inspired by the dynamic duality of every great Disney story, where opposing forces of light and dark drive characters to rise to their purpose, when developing the Disney Destiny.”

Those who take a cruise on the ship will be able to enjoy spaces, experiences and entertainment themed around stories like The Lion King , Hercules and One Hundred and One Dalmatians .

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line in a press release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising as we offer even more ways for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea.”

Home ports, cruise routes, cost and onboard activities are not yet known. Like the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, there will be plenty of spaces for kids to play and spaces dedicated for adults to enjoy all around the ship. There will also be three main dining rooms that cruisers will rotate through during a sailing.

Cruising Is Back

According to Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), cruising is back in full force as of 2023. This is good news for Disney, who has three new ships debuting before the end of 2025. The 2023 State of the Cruise Industry CLIA report states that 85% of travelers who have cruised plan to cruise again, which is nine percent higher than pre-pandemic levels.

Disney Cruise Line guests can look forward to a signature island experience that celebrates nature ... [+] and the spirit and culture of The Bahamas at a new Disney port of call, which will be located on the breathtaking island of Eleuthera at a place called Lighthouse Point. (Disney)

Other Disney Cruise Projects

Along with new cruise ships, Disney Cruise Line is getting ready to welcome cruisers to an all-new private island destination in The Bahamas, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. The new island is set to welcome Disney fans for the first time in June 2024. With Lighthouse Point, Disney plans to invest between $250 million and $400 million into the project.

Cruise ship stranded in 2019 could have been "one of the worst disasters at sea," officials say

By Kerry Breen

March 20, 2024 / 9:30 AM EDT / CBS News

A cruise ship that lost power during a storm off the coast of Norway and nearly ran aground in 2019 avoided becoming "one of the worst disasters at sea in modern times," according to a new report looking into the blackout .

The Viking Sky was carrying 1,374 passengers when it lost power and became stranded in a notoriously rough stretch of water in the Norwegian Sea. The ship came close to crashing into Norway's rocky coast, and hundreds of people were evacuated over the course of several hours.

The blackout meant the ship could not move forward or be steered, according to the report from the Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority. The accident was caused by insufficient lubricating oil in all of the operating diesel generators' lubricating oil sump tanks, the agency said, which combined with rough waters meant the ship could not operate.

The investigation found that one of the vessel's four diesel generators was "unavailable" when it left port, the agency said, meaning that the cruise ship was not in compliance with safety standards and should have never sailed. The design of the sump tank on the working generators was also "non-compliant with applicable regulations," the investigation found.

The agency's investigation "identified operational, technical, and organisational safety issues that in different ways contributed to the blackout" and called for more than a dozen safety recommendations.

gettyimages-1132173757-1.jpg

Once at sea, the agency said one of the biggest problems was that the ship's crew had never practiced the protocol for how to recover from a full blackout without a standby generator. This meant that engineers "were not practised in managing" the situation.

"The situation was stressful, the control system was complex, and a specific sequence of actions was needed. Insufficient training likely contributed to why the blackout recovery was time consuming," the agency said.

Several of the safety recommendations focused on ensuring that various shipyards, ship managers and other organizations that oversaw the Viking Sky review and strengthen processes to ensure that materials are compliant with safety regulations, and to ensure that no other vessels are sailing with faulty machinery. Other safety recommendations suggested that new technology be developed to better measure lubricating oil "to ensure safe operation" of large vessels, and that the ship management company and cruise line operator review their engine room alarm system to identify and implement potential improvements.

15+ Convenient Mobile “Park and Cruise” Hotels

It’s one of the little-known secrets about saving money on a cruise… and it can save you a lot of money.

The market for hotels is always competitive, especially in Mobile, Alabama. As a result, many hotels will offer perks in order to attract more guests.

And with a major cruise port in town that brings in guests from all around the region, that means offering parking packages that include free or discounted parking as a thank you for booking.

Parking can be a pretty hefty price on top of your cruise fare. Fares run $19 a day at the Alabama Cruise Terminal . That means for a 5-day trip, you can expect to pay $95 for parking.

But if you are staying in the area, then you can find a hotel that offers a cruise parking package.

These packages include parking in your hotel fare, typically for an amount that’s a little more than the regular room rate, but less than parking at the cruise port. In addition, they will often include transport back and forth from your ship.

To be sure, if you don’t plan on staying at a hotel the night before, then doing it just for the parking isn’t worth the added expense. But if you are going to stay somewhere, we suggesting finding a place with cruise parking to save some money.

We’ve rounded up a list of hotels in the area that have parking packages for Mobile cruisers.

Click each hotel name to read recent reviews from TripAdvisor.com. For parking packages you may have to book through the hotel website, which is linked on TripAdvisor.

  • Distance to Port: 11 miles
  • Review Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Fairfield Inn & Suites Mobile Daphne/Eastern Shore Similar to the Courtyard mentioned above, this package includes guest room accommodations, complimentary breakfast, parking for the duration of the cruise, and round trip transportation to the cruise terminal for up to five people. Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham (Saraland) Located in Saraland, Alabama, this hotel is about 10 miles from the cruise port. The parking package rate increases slightly for the summer season, but is still a pretty good deal versus parking at the port. we found rates about $60 over the standard room fare. That’s about three days worth of parking at the port. The hotel offers parking for the duration of the cruise, and a shuttle for up to four people is included with the package.

  • Price: $-$$
  • Distance to Port: 10.5 miles

Travelodge by Wyndham Mobile No need to worry about packages with the Travelodge. While they don’t show cruise parking on their website, when we called we were told that parking is offered at a flat $20. So for the price of one day parking at the cruise port, you can leave your car here. You will need to get a taxi or Uber to the ship.

Drury Inn Mobile Located in a small cluster of hotels about six miles from the port, the Drury Inn also offers a cruise parking deal. Using code “PARK 5” or “PARK 10” you can book the deal with five or ten nights of parking. The special also includes breakfast and roundtrip transportation between the hotel and the ship.

Baymont by Wyndham Mobile/ I-65 One of a handful of hotels with free cruise parking, we were told by the Baymont that they allow you to leave your car at the hotel when you stay with them before your cruise. Extended Stay America Mobile – Spring Hill Extended Stay America offers rates that start at under $100 per night, making it affordable. We called and were also told they offer five nights of cruise parking for $40. That’s more than half off the rate charged at the cruise port. You will need to find your own transportation, but the ride should only take about 15 minutes.

Most Cruise ships dock in Vancouver at the Canada Place Terminal, which is the primary port facility. Other vessels tie up at the Ballantyne Pier.

The main facility is located in the downtown area, next to the convention center. Most ships anchor here, and mostly likely you will embark and/or disembark at Canada Place. Waterfront Station is less than 10 minutes’ walk away.

Downtown Vancouver is quite compact so you will not be far from the cruise ship terminal. Some hotels are located within easy walking distance, other properties are located a short cab ride away.

From the hotel you can see ships sail in. There is also the Fairmont Waterfront hotel across the street. These are the closest hotels from the terminal , both located within easy walking distance (no shuttle required).
