Whitney Way Thore’s BFF Unrecognizable Amid Huge Weight Loss

Whitney Way Thore, MBFFL, YouTube

Although My Big Fat Fabulous Life season wrapped up at the end of November, fans are still keeping tabs on Whitney Way Thore and her close friends and family. Recently, fans captured a glimpse of one of Whitney’s besties and were blown away by her weight loss efforts.

Is My Big Fat Fabulous Life  Coming Back In 2024?

While the season finale ended with a bombshell announcement from Glenn Thore and his newly found daughter Angie, it points to the probability that there will be a My Big Fat Fabulous Life Season 12 in 2024. During season 11, Whitney Way Thore and her family shared their journey after Babs Thore’s passing. Each member has taken the change very hard, but they are finding their way through the day-to-day. Notably, during Whitney’s grief, she reportedly lost a significant amount of weight.

With the big focus being on Whitney Way Thore and how the family moves on after losing her mom, there were brief interactions with friends during Season 11, but minimal. At one point, a follower asked, “How often do you hang out with all of your friends?” Whitney sadly admitted, “To be honest, rarely. I spend most of my time alone.” But Whitney has maintained long-term relationships with many of her close friends through the years. Including close friends Heather Sykes and Ashley Baynes.

Fans Spot Whitney Way Thore’s Good Friends Weight Loss

On Reddit, a user posted a photo of Whitney Way Thore’s good friend Heather Sykes and Ashley Baynes standing side by side. In the caption, the user says: “Wow Ashlee is looking great!!” Then, the user adds, “This is how it’s done Whitney.” Notably, the original photo was from Heather’s Instagram page with the description: “Pro tip: Don’t buy the sparkly pants from Target unless you want to leave a glitter bomb literally everywhere you go (including a stranger’s fancy fabric dining room chairs)✨ @ashdanbay.” Other Reddit users were quick to add their thoughts to the thread:

  • “They both look fantastic!”
  • “They do look great. So does Hunter, in the post with his gf; Glenn looks 100x brighter when he’s with Angie…hm. What’s the common denominator? Oh yeah! No WWT ;).”
  • “Yea she looks great and love the look on Heather”
  • “Everyone around Whitney is living their lives and progressing well. Nice to see.”
  • “Both these ladies look 🔥 Good for them, wishing them both the very best life ahead. Suck it Sh*tney………..these ladies are leaving you in the DUST!!”
  • “Wow, BOTH LOOK INCREDIBLE. I didn’t even recognize Heather”
  • “They look amazing!!! They were always pretty but something about their style really aged them. They look refreshed.”

My Big Fat Fabulous Life Comments

But, fans didn’t just stick to commenting on Ashley and Heather on Reddit . Several jumped to the topic of Whitney Way Thore’s weight loss and how it could affect My Big Fat Fabulous Life . Many believe Whitney may be stalling to prolong the possible cancellation of the show.

  • “The show should be canceled. No purpose for it. She isn’t interesting, so much is fake and after 11 seasons with no personal growth or progress Whitney comes off as a very unlikable 40 year old with a life that is anything but fabulous.”
  • “So, I am going to assume it’s the shots. Why wouldn’t Whitney take them? Is she afraid that her show will end if she isn’t heavy? Because – I think the show is on it’s way out. She has the rest of her life to live, may as well live it healthy and happy. Because she can’t convince me that she is either of those things right now. And no judgement on the shot – because I am on it.”
  • “I think most people would love to see her get healthy and happy — but what she’s doing now ain’t it. And for her to treat us like we’re stupid and she is healthy and she is happy — that’s what pisses me off more. No one would judge her for getting shots to get healthy. People do the surgery all the time. She wants to be big — which whatever but don’t portray it as happy and healthy and when you get called on it use the whole “body shaming” bull.”

Fans Continue To Voice Their Thoughts On Whitney Way Thore

Furthermore, additional fans noticed that Whitney Way Thore has been losing weight. Admittedly, many are speculating she is on a weight loss drug, while others don’t believe she would since it could endanger the status of My Big Fat Fabulous Life.

  • “Well I saw a post or comment earlier saying Whitney has lost 60lbs in a short time and they were saying she must be using one of the weight loss drugs. And if she has lost weight (I have no clue), it definitely is from the drug.”
  • “I haven’t seen her on insta recently – I thought those were older pics. I hope that is true. I would be surprised if she is doing it – only because the show is about her being big. But she SHOULD do whatever makes her healthy and happy!”
  • “I doubt she will ever do anything to make herself healthy.”
  • “I think Whitney  is on one of the shots (also fellow shot girl here, high five!) – but for whatever reason not getting results AS impressive. The fact that she’s under 299 though, if that is true, is a big accomplishment in Whit’s case. Anyway, Ashley looks amazing and I couldn’t be happier for her. Wish her the absolute best – I wish they’d do a show about HER journey.”
  • “Whitney took the video of Hunter and his gf. She definitely was losing weight but when she was a guest speaker at the place that treats ED, (I can’t remember the name) she looked like she was gaining again.”
Wow Ashlee is looking great!! by u/hereforthelols1999 in MyBigFatFabulousLife

What do you think about My Big Fat Fabulous Life  returning in 2024? Will you tune in for more of Whitney Way Thore showing her life? Do you think the show is in danger of cancellation?

My most heartfelt thanks to ACL for this tremendous honor. I’m completely thrilled. I cannot tell you how surprised I was when I got Iryna’s email. It is amazing that my first ACL conference since 2019 in Florence includes this award. What a wonderful way to be back with all of my friends and family here at ACL. I’m going to tell you about my big fat 50-year journey. What have I been doing for the last 50 years? Well, finding meaning, quite literally in words. Or in other words, exploring how computational lexical semantics can support natural language understanding. This is going to be quick. Hold onto your hats, here we go.

'MBFFL' Star Whitney Thore Does Not Appreciate Praise for Perceived Weight Loss

Ashley Vega - Author

Jul. 7 2022, Updated 3:23 p.m. ET

Dancer and reality star Whitney Way Thore has never been shy about her body. In the past, TLC's My Big Fat Fabulous Life star has clapped back via social media after seeing more than enough comments praising her for her weight loss. Though she has been very open about working out, Whitney is very adamant about what she’s really focused on — and weight loss isn’t at the top of the list.

Has Whitney Thore lost weight recently?

From time to time, MBFFL fans might find themselves asking: Did Whitney lose weight? (This seems to happen more often when there's not a new season of the TLC currently airing.) Although the No BS Active owner has been open about her health journey, she hasn't shared how much, exactly, she weighs for a while now.

Like anyone, the number she sees on the scale likely fluctuates depending on a number of factors. The angle and lighting in a social media photo can also be deceptive, and of course fashion and makeup choices can accentuate different parts of a body. For these reasons, it's difficult to know for sure where Whitney stands in her weight loss journey without her actually coming out and sharing the details.

Whitney Thore does not appreciate unsolicited opinions about her body.

In July 2021, Whitney took to Instagram to vent a bit about the unsolicited comments she fields on a regular basis about her body. "Y’all are so kind and complimentary to me all the time and I appreciate that, but I don’t need anyone to tell me I look better without lip fillers. I’m obsessed with them ... I also wear hair extensions and use @toppik hair fibers to cover bald spots on my scalp," she wrote.

Whitney went on to say that she has her eyebrows microbladed, she gets pedicures and manicures, and she uses skincare products to diminish wrinkles. Additionally, she dyes her hair, sometimes wears "10 pounds of makeup" (but most of the time doesn't), and chooses clothes that she feels make her look good.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Whitney Way Thore⚡️ (@whitneywaythore)

"I constantly read comments about whether I’ve lost weight or gained weight or that I look 'different,' etc and it’s absolutely exhausting," Whitney continued. "I don’t owe it to anyone, but here is an unfiltered picture. I have lip fillers and a lot of makeup on! I haven’t had any work done to my face, but if I do, I won’t feel embarrassed to share it with you."

Whitey Thore has spoken out about receiving praise for perceived weight loss in the past.

In a since-deleted Instagram video from July 2019, Whitney insisted that she did not want praise from others for perceived weight loss. "I’ve been reading my comments and a large majority of them are people congratulating me for losing some amount of weight that you have perceived that I lost, but I guarantee you that I’m still fat as s--t," she told her followers.

"This hasn’t changed from day one, I am not out here to be anyone’s weight loss inspiration. If you’re inclined to be inspired by me, I appreciate that [and] I see you, but I’m just a complex human being focusing on a lot of other things in life besides losing weight," she continued

The reality star is more focused on her mental health rather than physical. Alongside her video, she wrote, “Just had to get this off my chest. Reminder: Your value does not increase if your weight decreases. You can implement healthy behaviors as a fat person or a thin person independent of weight. Changing your body is not the key to happiness but changing your mindset is.”

Whitney has been very open about living with PCOS.

Confident as Whitney is, she is very open about the struggles she goes through in life. My Big Fat Fabulous Life follows the reality star’s journey as a dancer dealing with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The condition is caused by a hormonal imbalance in women, and symptoms include excess hair growth, irregular periods, and in Whitney’s case, weight gain.

Due to the condition, Whitney gained over 100 pounds in just a few years. However, this wasn't a downfall for the star as she embraces who she is while spreading body positivity to those who follow her. Following her life on My Big Fat Fabulous Life, a lot of her viewers have become aware of the syndrome.

Though she uses her platform as a way to positively bring to light what it's like dealing with PCOS, Whitney is very open with the struggles that come with it. She went through anxiety and depression upon diagnosis and doesn't mind talking about it. Whitney has also been open about considering weight-loss surgery , too.

Whether she’s putting negative comments to rest or bringing awareness to the struggles of being a woman, Whitney clearly has her priorities straight.

Season 10 of My Big Fat Fabulous Life premieres on Aug. 9, 2022.

My Big Fat Fabolous Life 's Whitney Way Thore Reveals 100-Pound Weight Loss Transformation

After fans speculated my big fat fabolous life 's whitney way thore underwent surgery to lose weight, she addressed the comments head-on..

There's more to  Whitney Way Thore  than her appearance.

The  My Big Fat Fabulous Life  star responded to speculation over her body transformation after a recent post celebrating her dad's birthday prompted fans to ask if she  underwent surgery .

"I hate addressing this," Whitney shared in her Feb. 12 post , alongside a clip of herself showing off her Mardi Gras look, "but no, I have not had medical intervention to lose weight."

Instead, the transformation is a result of Whitney gradually losing 100 pounds over the years.

"In 2015 (season 1), I weighed 385 pounds," the TLC star noted. "In 2018, I lost 50 pounds. When my mom got sick and eventually died [in December 2022], I lost 50 more. I weigh 285 pounds and I have been this weight for almost a year now."

After explaining this is only the second time in her life she's dropped significant weight , Whitney expressed how she struggles to read comments about her weight.

"I'm still very fat," she continued. "Thank you for the compliments, but I really don't like obsessing over my body and I don't like it when others do it either."

In fact, before giving insight into her weight-loss journey, she shared her frustrations in the comments.

"Did you get surgery? You look half the size!" one Instagram user wrote, to which Whitney replied, "No. I weight [sic] 285 and I've been this weight for about a year now."

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Whitney Way Thore⚡️ (@whitneywaythore)

And when another fan said Whiney was "definitely slimmer" than in a photo she posted during a vacation to Switzerland in June 2023, the professional dancer explained why comments like these are hard to read.

"I'm not though, and that's why these comments are frustrating," Whitney responded. "I weight the exact same as I did in Switzerland and no one was freaking out then. I have not lost any weight since then."

Of course, Whitney isn't the only celebrity to candidly address fans' comments about her appearance. Keep reading to see all of the ways other stars have embraced their bodies and shared empowering messages.

"I think, in a way, we've forgotten what a regular body looks like . There are people out there who are struggling, and I'm struggling, and it's okay to come to terms with realizing it's going to be a bit of a journey. I'm not blind: I see my body, I see the difference in shape, I see that I gained weight. But I also see with those same eyes that I have a beautiful baby boy, and an amazing little girl, and I am very happy."

In February 20201, the Wolf of Wall Street star clapped back at paparazzi after photos of himself surfing were published online. "I don't think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid 30s even in front of family and friends," he wrote. "Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren't exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers. So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can't phase me anymore is dope. I'm 37 and finally love and accept myself."

In August 2021, he debuted a tattoo reading, "Body Love," which parodies the logo of water sports apparel company Body Glove.

"Stretch marks and extra fat...And yet I still love myself," the singer, who battled bulimia for years, wrote on Instagram in 2018 . "Cellulite...and yet I still love myself."

Lovato later told E! News , "I was on Instagram and I started comparing myself to these Instagram models and I just thought to myself, someone needs to show my fans and anybody that's looking at my account that what you see isn't always what's real. And so, I decided to embrace my flaws and—I don't even like to call them flaws, it's just a part of who I am—and show the world that I'm imperfect, but that's what makes me beautiful."

In December 2020, she posted on Instagram photos showing her stretch marks outlined with glitter.

"See? Even I don't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford ." -keeping it all the way real about the power of a good glam squad

"As a child, I never heard one woman say to me, 'I love my body.' Not my mother, my elder sister, my best friend. No one woman has ever said, 'I am so proud of my body.' I make sure to say it to [my daughter] Mia, because a positive physical outlook has to start at an early age ."

"IDK who needs to hear this but… WEAR A BIKINI IF YOU WANT TO WEAR A BIKINI . You don't have to be a size 0."

Gabourey Sidibe

"People always ask me, 'You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?' It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful , and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl. I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn't have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see. Your body is your temple, it's your home, and you must decorate it."

"I feel I've made it pretty clear over the years that I don't give even the tiniest of s--ts what anyone else feels about my body. I've gone on red carpets in couture as a size 14. I've done sex scenes days after surgery, mottled with scars. I've accepted that my body is an ever changing organism, not a fixed entity—what goes up must come down and vice versa. I smile just as wide no matter my current size because I'm proud of what this body has seen and done and represented."

"No matter how things look from the outside, we can all be super critical of ourselves and of our image in the mirror. I've seen articles or comments that have addressed my weight, or 'caving to pressure to be thin.' Keeping weight on is a struggle for me—especially when I'm under stress, and especially as I've gotten older.... I remind myself to be kind to myself , and as slightly ridiculous as it may sound, to treat myself in the same gentle way I'd want to treat a daughter of mine. It really helps."

"For young women, I would say, don't worry so much about your weight. Girls spend way too much time thinking about that, and there are better things. For young men, and women, too, what makes you different or weird, that's your strength . Everyone tries to look a cookie-cutter kind of way and actually the people who look different are the ones who get picked up. I used to hate my nose. Now I don't. It's okay." -on the advice she'd give aspiring actors

"You know, when I was handed Annalise Keating, I said, 'She's sexy, she's mysterious, you know?' I'm used to playing women who gotta gain 40 pounds and have to wear an apron. So I said, 'Oh God, I've got to lose weight, I've got to learn how to walk like Kerry Washington in heels, you know, I've got to lose my belly.' And then I asked myself, 'Well, why do I have to do all that?' I truly believe that the privilege of a lifetime is being who you are , and I just recently embraced that at 51. I think my strongest power is that at ten o'clock every Thursday night, I want you to come into my world. I am not going to come into yours. You come into my world and you sit with me, my size, my hue, my age, and you sit, and you experience."

"When people look at my body and be like, 'Oh my God, she's so brave,' it's like, 'No, I'm not.' I'm just fine. I'm just me. I'm just sexy. If you saw Anne Hathaway in a bikini on a billboard, you wouldn't call her brave. I just think there's a double standard when it comes to women.... I don't like it when people think it's hard for me to see myself as beautiful . I don't like it when people are shocked that I'm doing it." -on being annoyed that people are surprised by her confidence

In 2016, the star clapped back online after being accused of being a "thinspo model" for "impressionable tweens."

"Do you find this funny? I will write another paragraph to educate you aswell #youreallywannabenext?" she tweeted , later adding, "Now....everyone go look in the mirror at their beautiful body, and love that s--t #thickgirlswinning #skinnygirlswinning #weallwinning."

Also in 2016, Zendaya called out a magazine for photoshopping her, writing on Instagram, "These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it."

The star later said this about excessive photoshopping in a New You interview: "There is no such thing as ugly. That's a word that doesn't really enter my vocabulary. If there's any definition to being perfect, you're perfect at being yourself . No other person can be you 100 percent; no one has your fingerprint; no one has your DNA. You are you 120 percent, through and through. Whether it is through my social media or whatever, I want anyone who looks up to me to know that I go through the same problems. I have to be confident in who I am."

"You have to look past it—you look how you look, and be comfortable. What are you going to do? Be hungry every single day to make other people happy? That's just dumb." -on why she refuses to diet

"I love that I'm a full woman and I am strong, and I'm powerful, and I'm beautiful at the same time. And there's nothing wrong like that. It's so important to look at the positives; if I get caught up looking at the negatives, it can really bring you down . I don't have time to be brought down, I've got too many things to do. I have Grand Slams to win, I have people to inspire, and that's what I'm here for."

Isla Fisher

"I don't even own a scale. I have two young girls, and I wouldn't want them to see me weighing myself all the time. I don't think it sends the right message....For me, so much about life is acceptance. You can look in the mirror and find a million things wrong with yourself. Or you can look in the mirror and think, I feel good, I have my health, and I'm so blessed. That's the way I choose to look at it. I don't need to be perfect. I'm doing just fine ."

"Being pregnant finally helped me understand what my true relationship was with my body—meaning that it wasn't put on this earth to look good in a swimsuit . I was like, 'Look, I can carry a baby! I'm gaining weight right, everything's going well.' And I've had that relationship ever since."

"When did being thin become more important than being healthy? I recently went to a naturopath for the first time in my life. I told her about my anxiety around food and my obsession with dieting. She phrased a pivotal question in such a way that struck a chord with me: what other things could you be thinking about if you didn't spend all your time thinking about your diet? I suddenly remembered all the activities I love that used to occupy my time. At some point in my life, I allowed my obsession with being thin to consume me, and I refused to make room in my mind for any other concerns…. I'm done believing in the idea that there's a thinner, happier version of me on the other side of all the tireless effort. Your body type is subject to genetics, and while eating nutrient-dense foods and exercising regularly will make you healthier, it will not necessarily make you thinner."

"I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too. No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don't need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you. That's the stuff of champions." -responding to chatter about her Super Bowl appearance

"In the past if I have ever done a photo shoot with so much as a t-shirt on, I have starved myself for weeks in advance and then picked and prodded at every picture and then normally taken the picture down," they shared about a photoshoot, in which they bared their body. "Yesterday I decided to fight the f--k back , reclaim my body and stop trying to change this chest and these hips and these curves that my mum and dad made and love so unconditionally. Some may take this as narcissistic and showing off but if you knew how much courage it took to do this and the body trauma I have experienced as a kid you wouldn't think those things."

"I look at myself naked in the mirror and say, 'You know what, awkward butt shape? You're not gonna get higher or rounder but it's OK, because I've got Spanx for you.' Your words have so much power . Every day, if you tell yourself 'I love you,' if you give yourself one word of validation, it will change your mind."

10 Best Movies to Watch if You Love 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 premiered on Sept. 8, giving fans another chance to celebrate family, love, and the beauty of Greek culture. 'Before Midnight' (2013)

Eighteen years after their first encounter in Vienna, Jesse ( Ethan Hawke ) and Céline ( Julie Delpy ) are married with twin daughters on a summer vacation in Greece. When Jesse questions their relationship, burning questions rise to a boiling point. Directed and co-written by Richard Linklater , Before Midnight marks the final installment of the popular Before trilogy , earning an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Viewers have watched the unfolding beauty of Jesse and Céline's fated relationship for years. Witnessing the last part of their romantic journey is like saying goodbye to old friends while being reminded of the importance of communication and connectivity for a successful relationship.

'The Hundred-Foot Journey' (2014)

The Hundred-Foot Journey tells the inspiring story of the rivalry between two restaurants in a French village: a newly opened Indian restaurant and a Michelin-star French gourmet restaurant. Helen Mirren stars as the fiery restaurant owner Madame Mallory, with Om Puri as the Papa of the Kadam family and Manish Dayal as the talented young chef Hassan.

In many cultures, food is the heart and soul of everyone. This key point plays a role in both My Big Fat Greek Wedding and The Hundred-Foot Journey , showing that food can nourish the body, mind, and soul. The Hundred-Foot Journey is a great movie for foodies , with a feel-good story praised for its uplifting portrayal of family love and friendship.

'The Wedding Date' (2005)

Recently single Kat Ellis ( Debra Messing ) hires dashingly, handsome escort Nick Mercer ( Dermot Mulroney ) to attend her younger sister's wedding in London as her boyfriend, fooling her ex-fiance — the groom's best man. Starring a mix of American and English actors, The Wedding Date easily became a fan-favorite for its light-hearted rhythm and adorable characters.

Beyond the similarities of being wedding-themed movies, The Wedding Date and My Big Fat Greek Wedding share a basic message. They talk about the importance of family and forgiveness and showcase how a family can be many things, both good and bad, but the love within is the most important.

'Letters to Juliet' (2010)

Letters to Juliet tells the story of an American writer traveling with her fiancé to Verona, where she discovers a secret club called the "Secretaries of Juliet." Women anonymously reply to the unanswered love letters other women leave for Juliet Capulet's statue. Sophie answers a fifty-year-old letter from an elderly woman, Claire, and the pair embark on a quest to find Claire's long-lost love, Lorenzo.

Oscar-nominee Amanda Seyfried stars alongside Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave . Although the film is not a true story, it is based on the real group called The Juliet Club, established in 1972 by artists and scholars. Letters to Juliet is an uplifting romantic story about the lengths people will go to for true love, ideal for fans of romantic comedies.

'Meet the Parents' (2000)

After proposing to his schoolteacher girlfriend, Chicago nurse Greg Focker ( Ben Stiller ) and Pam Byrnes ( Teri Polo ) take a trip to her parent's house Matters turn for the worst when Pam's strict dad, Jack ( Robert De Niro ), plans to make Greg go through hell to prove himself worthy of his daughter's hand.

Directed by Jay Roach , Meet the Parents is a belly-laughing remake of the eponymous 1992 film. There couldn't be a better pairing than Robert De Niro's intensity and Ben Stiller's comedic genius . Both Meet the Parents and My Big Fat Greek Wedding deal with the struggles of relating to someone else's family. The former takes a more gross-out approach, but both films share the same DNA.

'Mamma Mia!' (2008)

The jukebox musical Mamma Mia! cents on a fatherless bride-to-be who invites three mysterious men to her wedding on a chamring Greek island. The three prospective fathers arrive, sparking feelings in the girl's mother. Starring an ensemble cast led by Meryl Streep , the film phenomenon is adapted from Catherine Johnson 's 1999 musical.

Mamma Mia! is full of dazzling Greek scenery and campy dance choreography, using pop group ABBA's popular songs to tell a coming-of-age story about love. With an irresistible soundtrack and a cast of stellar performers willing to dance the night away, Mamma Mia! is an entertaining, big-hearted story great for a date night.

'While You Were Sleeping' (1995)

When hopelessly romantic Chicago train coin collector Lucy ( Sandra Bullock ) suddenly saves the life of her commuter crush, Peter Callaghan ( Peter Gallagher ), his welcoming family mistakes her for his finacée. Things complicate when she catches feelings for Peter's younger brother Jack ( Bill Pullman ).

While You Were Sleeping is among the all-time best romantic comedies and a must-see for every Christmas holiday. The film's heartbeat flutters through its themes of the value of family, forgiveness, and empathy for others. Bullock's tender performance turned her into a superstar and rom-com queen, with the story digging into the bittersweet moments that bring a family together under one roof.

'Crazy Rich Asians' (2018)

The groundbreaking rom-com Crazy Rich Asians follows Chinese-American NYU professor Rachel Chu ( Constance Wu ) discovering her boyfriend's family is among the richest in Singapore. Directed by John M. Chu , the film broke stereotypical boundaries in Hollywood, paving the way for more Asian American stories to be produced in a positive, unbiased light.

The box office smash focuses on the difficulties of being accepted into someone else's family. Blending comedy with serious undertones, the film is one of the first to showcase the struggles American-born Asians face within their own background. It also expanded the knowledge of Asian culture to Western audiences and helped catapult the careers of Henry Golding and Constance Wu. Crazy Rich Asians will have a sequel , and fans are eagerly awaiting its premiere.

'My Life in Ruins' (2009)

Often thought of as the sister movie to My Big Fat Greek Wedding , My Life in Ruins stars Nia Vardalos as a love-deprived tour guide, Georgia. Meeting a group of misfit tourists in Greece, she changes her perspective on life and romance.

The script cleverly portrays every type of traveler from the bickering rich couple, the well-behaved Canadians, the Brits, the first-time traveler, and, of course, the obnoxiously loud Americans. Drastically opposite to her awkward role as Toula Portokalos, Vardalos's character is somewhat stiffer and predictable, but she still lives up to her roots as a quick-witted comedian. The film beautifully represents Greece's breathtaking landscapes while leaving viewers with abundant life messages.
