Where Is Arcadia Cruise Ship Now?
By Michael Ferguson
The Arcadia cruise ship, operated by the British-American cruise line P&O Cruises, is one of the largest and most luxurious ships on the seas. Originally launched in 2005, the Arcadia has been taking passengers on incredible voyages around the world ever since.
The Ship’s Features
The Arcadia boasts a number of state-of-the-art features, including 13 restaurants and bars, two swimming pools, a spa and wellness centre, a theatre, multiple shops and lounges, a casino and more. There are also plenty of activities to keep passengers entertained while on board, such as tennis courts, mini golf courses, shuffleboard courts and rock climbing walls. The ship also has a range of cabins to choose from to suit any budget or group size.
Destinations
The Arcadia’s itinerary takes it all over the world, from Europe to Asia and everywhere in between. Destinations include countries such as Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, France and Croatia in Europe; Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore in Asia; Mexico in Central America; Australia in Oceania; South Africa in Africa; Barbados in the Caribbean; and Alaska in North America. The ship also offers some incredible shore excursions for passengers to explore each destination further.
Covid-19 Impact
Unfortunately due to Covid-19 travel restrictions imposed worldwide throughout 2020/21 season Arcadia was unable to sail its usual routes. Instead it remained docked at Southampton for repairs for much of this time before sailing on reduced capacity cruises around Europe later in 2021.
Where is it Now?
At present (June 2021) Arcadia is sailing around Norway before heading south towards Barcelona for a journey through the Mediterranean Sea. After this she will travel back up north towards Scandinavia before returning back to Southampton where she will remain docked until further notice.

Arcadia Embarks on P&O’s 2024 World Cruise
- January 7, 2024
The Arcadia embarked on P&O Cruises’ 2024 World Cruise on Saturday. Sailing roundtrip from Southampton, the vessel is now offering a 99-night voyage that will circumnavigate the globe.
Cruising to Central America, the Caribbean, North America, Hawaii, the South Pacific, Southeast Asia, the Far East, the Red Sea, the Middle East and the Mediterranean, the full itinerary features visits to a total of 29 destinations.
After leaving the United Kingdom, the Arcadia is set to cross the Atlantic on its way to Freeport, in the Bahamas.
The 2005-built vessel then visits Florida and Aruba before transiting the Panama Canal and arriving in the Pacific Ocean for ports of call in Guatemala and Costa Rica.
Still in the Pacific, the ship visits Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia on its way to Indonesia and the Southeast Asia.
Ports of call in the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia are also on the schedule, in addition to visits to Indonesia and Hong Kong.
On its way back to Europe, the Arcadia sails to other countries in Asia, the Middle East and the Red Sea, including Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Egypt.
The final leg of the 2024 World Cruise features a transit of the Suez Canal, as well as ports of call in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, such as Valletta, in Malta, and Cádiz, in Spain.
Completing the western circumnavigation of the globe, the Arcadia is scheduled to arrive back in Southampton on April 15.
The itinerary is highlighted by extended visits to key destinations across the globe, including overnight calls in Honolulu, Sydney, Hong Kong, and Dubai.
Built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the Arcadia originally debuted in April 2005. In 2018 , the 1,968-guest ship underwent a major refurbishment that included updates to cabins, public areas, and more.
According to P&O, the project aimed at improving the onboard experience with a fresher and more contemporary feel.

Where Is P&O Cruises’ Arcadia Now?

P&O Cruises’ much-loved cruise ship Arcadia has been sighted moored off the coast of Suffolk not far from the pier.
The cruise ship arrived off the coast of Southwold early on Wednesday 19 August and is now moored less than two miles from shore, as reported by the East Anglian Daily Times .
When sailing, the 938ft vessel can hold up to as many as 2,000 passengers with a crew of 866, but currently stands empty, as the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has put a halt on all cruise travel since the outbreak in March.
The ship has a total of 952 cabins and facilities including a two-level Palladium Theatre, restaurants, bars and lounges.
Arcadia received a makeover in 2017 and now boasts a smartened up Aquarius Pool and Bar and new carpet and furniture throughout. Suites were given new sofa beds, lamps, throws, headboards, curtains and balcony doors.
A spokesperson for P&O Cruises UK said: “During this pause in our operations, our P&O Cruises ships are berthed in Southampton but also periodically sail to and anchor in other locations including off the coast of Suffolk.
“We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from harbours and ports during this period.
“Much in the same way as a car needs to be driven, our ships need to sail to ensure full working operation and then return to the berths for storing.
“We have essential manning on board, which is approximately 100 crew members per ship.
“The crew can, of course, use guest facilities providing they adhere to social distancing and other health protocols.”
P&O Cruises announced this month that it was once again extending its cruise cancellations until mid-November 2020 , as the UK government continues to advise against cruise ship travel (with the exception of river cruises) at this time amid coronavirus.
The cruise line did have some good news, however, as it also announced that it would be taking delivery of its new cruise ship Iona before the autumn.

Arcadia P&O cruise ship moors in Weymouth Bay after staff shortages cancel trips
The cruise ship was among the many vessels that visited Dorset during lockdown

A P&O cruise ship is currently moored in Weymouth Bay after a number of cruises were cancelled due to a staff shortage. The Arcadia ship, which is usually based and sails from Southampton, arrived in the Dorset coast this morning and will be moored in the waters for the near future.
The 2,094-passenger ship, which was built in 2004, has two pools, spa, a range of restaurants and bars and entertainment onboard. The cruise ship has previously sailed to the Canary Islands and is due to sail to Iceland, British Isles and the Norwegian Fjords this summer.
Weymouth Bay became a resting spot for cruise ships during the coronavirus lockdown for more than a year and residents and tourists saw numerous vessels come and go over the past few weeks. The cruise ships were moored on the coast because the bay offers "secure anchorage with the prevailing weather", according to the RNLI.

The huge ship can be seen across the seaside town to as far as Portland and has become the subject of interest by tourists and residents. A spokeswoman for P&O explained that the cruise ship was unable to operate commercial cruises due to difficulties recruiting staff members and existing staff have been moved to other P&O ships.
She added Arcadia will sail again in July. A statement reads: "Arcadia is in Weymouth Bay following the impact on airlines and the wider hospitality industry caused by Covid-19 which has resulted in disruption to crewmembers available to join our ships.
"Therefore we have moved crewmembers from Arcadia to other ships in our fleet in order to maintain the service standards of which we are very proud. Arcadia will then begin sailing once again from July 5."
The P&O vessel had resumed service at the end of March following the suspension of services due to the pandemic and the company has cancelled seven sailings between April 12 and June 23. Affected customers have been issued a refund.
Confirming the cancellation of seven cruises, P&O Cruises said: “The current and extraordinary impact of Covid-19 in the UK, in the wider hospitality, service and airline industry as a whole has resulted in a temporary disruption to crew members available to join our ships.
“As a result, P&O Cruises will be re-deploying crew from Arcadia to other ships in the fleet. This is being done in order to maintain the company’s high standards of service of which we are very proud, across the other five ships in the fleet.
“We are so sorry but as a result of this re-deployment, the following seven cruises will be cancelled: J205, J206, J207, J208, J209, J210, J211. Guests who are booked on these cruises will receive a full refund of all monies paid and a future cruise credit and on board spending money to use on a new P&O Cruises holiday to be booked before December 31, 2023.”
Warning to canoeists and paddleboarders not to approach cruise ship
Dorset Marine Policing Team said that although it might be tempting to get a closer look or a "cheeky selfie" with the vessels, there is a 50-metre exclusion zone around the ships. Even if you want to use a drone to get a closer look, there are Civil Aviation Authority guidelines in place.
A police spokesman previously said: "There are a number of cruise ships in Weymouth Bay during the coronavirus situation. We know it's very, very tempting to paddle over on SUP, kayak or other vessels for a cheeky selfie or to get the drone up to test your flying skills. Please remember that there is a 50m exclusion zone around the vessels, and be aware of other CAA instructions around use of drones fitted with cameras.
"Many of the vessels are still running and may need to move or reposition with little warning. The propulsion equipment poses a very real risk to other water users who come too close.
"Please keep at least 50m away, and if you need a selfie, get one from a distance! Enjoy the water and stay safe out there!"
The RNLI also said anyone who swims or travels towards the ships face the risk of becoming seriously injured. A spokesman said: "Having the cruise ships in Weymouth Bay is something we wouldn't have normally seen. The reason they are moored here is because the bay offers secure anchorage with the prevailing weather.
"As the cruise ships appear quite close to the shore and accessible from Weymouth seafront for a paddleboard, people will be drawn to them out of curiosity. It is important to remember that they are further out than they appear and the wind will be against you on the return trip, this could lead to difficulties in getting back to shore.
"There is also a risk of injury if you get too close to the ships, especially if they are unaware of your presence. The ships in the bay utilise a dynamic anchoring system, this involves large thrusters that work automatically if the ship starts to move from its anchored position.
"There is a risk for anyone that is too close to the vessel that they could be seriously injured. Maintaining a sensible distance from the ship where you are visible to the bridge in case any of the ship's systems have to be operated will help to reduce the risk."
