Discover the Beauty of Badoca Safari Park in Portugal: A Perfect Family Getaway

So, I gotta admit, that we have been absent from YouTube and nearly all social media since the pandemic. It’s not that we don’t travel but rather we have lost the routine of updating and editing videos, photos and content. This, we hope, will slowly change and we can get back to creating memories for the future, and hopefully, you will come along for the ride 🙂

A safari park

This time we decided it was time to break free from the walls of our house, this was still during the pandemic. Our destination? The Safari Park in Portugal, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The first thing that struck us was how quiet it was. Seriously, I could barely spot anyone around. Perfect for a relaxed afternoon with Lukas, especially since his birthday was just around the corner. This trip? It was his early birthday present.

Now, about that safari park – I have a vague memory of our last visit we had been there before at least twice with family members but never with Lukas. The park is quite large with different areas, ranging from birds to farm animals and the safari area. The safari itself is a guided tour around the complex, and we got to see several animals in the “wild”, including some rather nice and friendly giraffes. Lukas was over the moon about this.

Bring food!

Good thing we prepared some food in the house because Lukas becomes hungry out of nothing and he needs to eat like, that instance, so having some snacks and sandwiches was a great idea.

A large area

The place is huge! And it’s a world away from those tiny cages you find in zoos. Plus, it’s a hit with the kids. You can get right up close to some of the animals. We had a fascinating encounter with a giraffe, totally unphased by our presence. She was raised there since she was a baby, so she’s quite the people giraffe :). Ostriches, though? Yeah, they gave me the jitters, but luckily, they kept their distance.

One thing Aiste kept thinking was about some little mountain goats and their short legs, which she thinks are perfect for navigating the mountain terrain. It’s all about stability, I suppose.

Bird exhibition, a hit

We also checked out the bird exhibition, and let me tell you, the eagles and falcons were a sight to behold. And then there was this humongous Marabou stork – massive!

Oh, and let’s not forget the Suricatas! Those little critters are just too cute, like baby versions of their adult selves.

Close to the beach

This was been one heck of an enjoyable day. We still saw a few other animals and walked around a couple more exhibitions, but headed to the beach for an hour or so before going back home. All in all, the Safari Park in Portugal has been an absolute treat. It’s not just a break from the norm, but a reminder of the beauty and wonder that nature has to offer. This is the spot if you’re looking for a laid-back day surrounded by incredible wildlife. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

It has an area of ​​90 hectares, quite large, although a big part of the area is visited using a tractor, still expect to walk a bit to be able to visit everything.

And don’t forget to take some extra film for your camera. Here in Badoca Park you can take some of the best shots of your life! Take photos of the aggressive tigers, majestic giraffes, nervous kangaroos, zebras, yaks, buffalo, llamas, red and fallow deer, ostriches and chimpanzees, as well as the more familiar cows, donkeys and sheep.

After an hour and a half in the wilderness, go to the park restaurant. On the way you’ll discover an amazing variety of exotic birds in a huge cage, whose chirping will serenade you as you taste some typical Alentejo flavours. African Raftling is the new attraction, the Badoca Safari Park, designed for those who like strong emotions! It is aboard a rubber dinghy, that 9 people can travel 500 meters of water circulating in a turbulent environment rebuilt. Experience a thrilling drive! Venture to the descent of the new African Rafting!
