Blue is a popular English pop and R&B group that have sold over 16 million records worldwide, formed in 2000 in London, England.
In 1999, having met at an audition for a boy band managed by Simon Cowell, Lee Ryan and Antony Costa kept in touch and a year later invited Duncan James to start a band. It wasn’t long before the trio impressed Daniel Glatman, who later became their manager, and invited Ryan’s flatmate Simon Webbe to complete the line up. The band signed a contract with Innocent Records and Blue’s output was put in reliable hands of numerous songwriting/production teams. Penned by Norwegian pop team Stargate, Blue’s debut single “All Rise” took the UK by storm and rose to No. 4 in the UK Singles chart in May 2001. The band’s subsequent single “If You Come Back” became Blue’s first No. 1 single and paved the way for their debut album “All Rise” issued in December 2001. The album, aided by the Christmas season, topped the UK Albums chart and went on to sell over 1.8 million copies.
Like its predecessor Blue’s sophomore album “One Love” debuted the UK Albums chart at No. 1 spawning the singles “One Love”, “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” featuring Elton John, and “U Make Me Wanna”. The album cemented the group’s position in the sugary-pop world, however borrowed influences from rock, funk, R&B and soul. The band’s third full-length album “Guilty” appeared in 2003 and once again topped the UK Album Chart, however showed signs that the Blue bubble losing momentum. Led by the title track “Guilty” and subsequent “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” featuring Stevie Wonder and Angie Stone, the album went on to sell over a million copies.
The greatest hits album “Best of Blue” hit the shelves towards the tail end of 2004, spawning the singles “Curtain Falls”, “Get Down on It”, and “Only Words I Know”. In 2005 the band announced a hiatus, allowing members to focus on their solo careers. Blue returned in 2009 with a performance at the Silverstone Classic festival in August and announced they would represent the UK at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with their single “I Can”. In 2012 the band embarked on a tour alongside A1 and Jeff Timmons entitled “Boybands: The Greatest Hits Tour.
With contributions from R&B singers Ne-Yo and Bruno Mars, Blue released their fourth studio album “Roulette” in April 2013. Led by their single “Hurt Loves”, the album charted at No. 13 in the UK Albums chart and No. 14 in Germany. In support of “Roulette” the band embarked on “The Roulette Tour”, Blue’s fourth headlining tour across the UK and Europe. Blue subsequently released the album “Colours” in March 2015, led by the single “King of the World”.
Live reviews
Like Five - or should that be 5ive? - before them, Blue proved to be one of those boy bands who enjoyed huge success within a relatively short-lived period of time; it’s incredible to think that their initial run actually only lasted five years, between 2000 and 2005, because they packed so much commercial triumph into that period; all three of their albums during that period went platinum multiple times, and they spawned a slew of number one singles, too; the R&B-tinged sound that the group aimed for set them apart from most of their contemporaries at the time, and tapped into the success of that genre whilst simultaneously exploiting the typical pop market. After splitting in 2005 to pursue other projects - Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe had briefly successful solo careers, whilst Antony Costa was best-known for being ridiculed on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, they made several aborted attempts to reform before ITV2’s The Big Reunion catapulted them back into the spotlight; they managed to route a tour of their own with a full live band late last year, and they’ll swap those intimate venues for an arena jaunt along with the likes of Five later this year, as part of their Big Reunion commitments.

One for the money and the free ride it's two for the times you lied, all rise! Who doesn't enjoy the nostalgic early 00's music of Blue? The UK boyband really made their mark with an R & B infused pop sound that was far more danceable than their contemporaries of the time including Westlife and Boyzone.
Unfortunately the success was short-lived and following an atrocious Eurovision entry the boys parted to work on separate projects. They cemented their return in 2013 with a solid, mature album entitled 'Roulette' and with this the original lineup took to the road to reacquaint themselves with a delighted fanbase. The four men may be older yet they can still dance having all gone on intense fitness regimes and are looking better than ever. The show is imaginably OTT including video interludes, scantily clad dancers and huge amounts of lasers yet favourites such as 'Fly By II' and 'If You Come Back' really do steal the show when performed. The brilliant encore of 'All Rise' has the whole venue singing as one momentous unit and proves that the group clearly had reason to return.

The run of shows is said to be a reunion tour celebrating Blue’s decades-long presence in the music industry. Duncan James – who forms part of Blue alongside Antony Costa, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe – spoke of the Greatest Hits Tour in a recent interview on Good Morning Britain. “I have some great news, that won’t leave you feeling Blue, because we are putting on a special tour,” James said.
The singer told fans to expect plenty of stories since “there’s been a lot happening in the last two decades.” Following the success of ‘I Rise’ and its successive albums ‘One Love’ and ‘Guilty’, Blue took a hiatus in late-2004.
They reunited to represent the UK at 2011’s Eurovision Song Contest, and subsequently released ‘Roulette’ and ‘Colours’ in 2013 and 2015, respectively.

Blue announce 2022 20th anniversary tour

Boy band Blue are back with an arena tour planned for September 2022 to mark two decades of their chart-topping debut album, 'All Rise'.

"Tickets on sale from Friday this week."
In 2017, Simon, 45, confirmed he and his bandmates were back in the studio working on a follow-up to 2015's 'Colours', which was their final album released on Sony Music.
At the time, Lee, 38, was in 'EastEnders', Duncan, 43, in 'Hollyoaks' and 40-year-old Anthony was appearing in an Agatha Christie play, so the boys had limited time to work on the new tunes.
Simon said then: "We're in the studio. We did the Sunshine Festival in Worcester. We're going to Latvia tomorrow. We're constantly working, at least two or three times a month."
However, Blue admitted in 2019 that they would be focusing on live shows.
The 'Guilty' hitmaker added how he and his bandmates - who formed in 2000 and have continued to play shows over the years - keep one another grounded.
Simon - who released his first solo album in 11 years 'Smile' that October - said: "[If] the attitude is that we're getting above our station, the other three will bring you back into line. We're very, very grateful to be in the position that we are."
Blue's 2022 UK tour dates are:
Saturday 17 September – M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool
Sunday 18 September – First Direct Arena, Leeds
Monday 19 September – OVO Hydro, Glasgow
Wednesday 21 September – P&J Live, Aberdeen
Thursday 22 September – Utilita Arena, Newcastle
Saturday 24 September – AO Arena, Manchester
Sunday 25 September – Resorts World Arena, Birmingham
Monday 26 September – Brighton Centre
Wednesday 28 September – Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham
Thursday 29 September – The O2, London
Saturday 1 October – Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff

The boys went their separate ways in 2005 to pursue solo careers, but have since reformed due to huge demand from their loyal fanbase.

Costume designer Jacqueline Demeterio didn’t have to look much further than her own Silver Lake-residing friends when pulling inspiration for Anne Hathaway ‘s Sólene in “ The Idea of You .”
“I know people that live in Silver Lake and I know some friends of mine that are mothers that live in Silver Lake so I was very familiar with that sensibility and their style,” Demeterio told Variety ahead of the film’s arrival on Prime Video last week.
She describes Sólene’s fashion as a mix between bohemian and “classic French girl style,” citing Jane Birkin as one of the her main inspirations for Hathaway throughout the film. “That was one of the images on my inspiration board that kind of spoke to me,” she says.
Demeterio pulled from designer racks in both New York and Los Angeles to turn these visions into reality, gravitating towards long, flowing skirts, suede boots and deep purple and blue fabrics. Some of Sólene’s most memorable ensembles include this stunning Dior trench , which she dons when visiting Hayes in New York for the first time, and this satin dress from Acne that she wears while ducking paparazzi at the peak of her and Hayes’ romance. “Anne was immediately drawn to the color,” Demeterio says.
For Hayes, whose character in the book has been rumored to be at least loosely based on Harry Styles (and August Moon on One Direction), there was no shortage of Coachella footage and paparazzi photos from which Demeterio could pull inspiration.
“I mean, I’m not going to lie: of course, I looked at Harry,” she says. “I did because I do like a lot of Harry’s street style looks.”
In fact, one of Hayes’ outfits — made up of Loewe trousers , an Isabel Marant sweater and a Bodega tank — was so good that Galitizine bought the entire head-to-toe outfit after the fitting. “After we tried it on, he texted me and he’s like, ‘Can you give the details?’ And he purchased it right after because he loved it,” Demeterio says.
Below, check out how Demeterio created some of the best fashion moments in “The Idea of You”:
“This is actually a Chanel vintage dress that I found down in Atlanta when we were filming. I was in The RealReal and what caught my eye about this dress was the fabric, the chenille. It’s chenille on top and then it’s this beautiful silk pattern skirt on the bottom. And the color was so vibrant to me, that purple that her and I had been discussing with our palette. I saw it from across the store and I just knew this was going to be one of the dresses that we were going to see a lot.
And then I found this ETRO velvet navy blazer to complement it.”

“When Hayes first comes into the gallery to buy every piece of art from her, I wanted his street style to be cool. He’s wearing a Loewe trouser , an Isabel Marant sweater and a Bodega tank. I liked the texture of the sweater. Besides looking cool and great, it looked warm and inviting but also still looked like his pop star self. The colors and the gradation was really beautiful.

“Hayes’ first Coachella outfit is very simple. With his stage looks, we landed on just keeping him classic and simple. However, his T-shirts, we tailored them to the perfect length. That’s a Jungmaven T-shirt and and he’s wearing Margiela trousers. So the cut of his pants were always wider leg — a little slouchy, a little drop waist, a drop crotch — which was intentional to give him that sort of cool factor.
I used a lot of Loewe, Margiela, Saint Laurent. They were all designers because that’s what he would be wearing even though it’s just a classic tee and trouser.”

“I love layering and I love outerwear pieces, and that Dior trench is so chic. She put it on and the movement of it too, when they do the shot behind of them walking in the hangar to the plane, I just knew the movement was going to be so beautiful.
I had a range of coats and trench coats in her fitting but honestly, the cut on that Dior was unlike any other, and I thought, ‘Well, this is why this is Dior and this costs the price that it costs because, especially raincoats on TV or film, they can be bulky, they can be problematic, they can look messy. This did not do any of that, so it was well worth the price.”
Dior Trench Coat
“When Solene is traveling to New York to visit Hayes in the hotel, she knows what she’s going to do, she knows why she’s going and she’s excited. She puts on this very sexy two-piece Fendi ensemble . I love that it was sheer but it wasn’t too sheer, and then we put the right undergarments under it too, so it wasn’t so revealing. I also love the movement of the trench coat, that was a reveal when she got into the room.
“I found this set in New York, actually. That was something early on that I had found, and it was one of those pieces that I saw and said ‘I have to see this on.” And then when I brought it into the fitting, Anne was like, “What is this?” And then she put it on and we were like, ‘Oh my God, it’s like drop dead gorgeous on her.'”
Fendi Silk Ruffle Pullover & Skirt Set
“This purple dress is by Acne. It was a lot about the color when I first saw that dress and when it came in, Anne was immediately drawn to the color, too. When she goes to the gallery at the end of the film, I didn’t realize that there was going to be purple artwork so when we went to go film, I was like, ‘Oh my God, her dress matches the artwork exacty.’
Her suede boots are Isabel Marant. They have this sort of slouchy, Bohemian, very cool, effortless feel. She wears the same pair, but in tan suede, at the beginning of the film and then I had them in black here.”
