Cherub is a funk-soul, electro-pop duo originating from Tennessee US. The twosome combine up-beat rhythms and eccentric vocals to produce a melodic, 1980s sound with a futuristic twist.

Cherub consists of Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber. They acknowledged each other’s talents in 2005 at Middle Tennessee State University whilst studying a music-business degree, before forming Cherub five years later. The quirky producers have emphasized their eagerness to produce great music which is personally relevant, rather than compromise their sound to the confinements of a particular genre.

The disco-holic duo have released three E.Ps for digital download; ‘Man of the Hour’ (2012), ‘100 Bottles EP’ (2013) and ‘Antipasto EP’ (2013). Cherub’s most successful single ‘Doses and Mimosas’ gained viral recognition across a range of social media platforms; it now has over 4.5 million views on YouTube, whilst it reached no.43 on Billboard’s Rock Airplay and no.23 on the Alternative Songs Chart. The hit record prompted a consequent major-label debut with Columbia Records in May 2014 titled ‘Year of the Caprese’ - an emotion-provoking album that was released a week early on Spotify, consisting of explicit lyrics on topical subjects such as sex, drugs and alcohol.

Both Jordan and Jason have performed individually, as Schtompa and I.V.Y League, alongside the likes of Two Fresh and GZA of Wu Tang Clan, whilst they have shared a stage with the credibly acclaimed Miami Horror and Alex B since the formation of Cherub in 2010. Having performed at prestigious festivals such as Lollapalooza and Loufest, the duo have managed to transform a particularly selective sound in to an increasingly mainstream proposition.

It’s difficult to stop yourself from dancing to the feel-good melodies of Cherub, and with an aura of Prince, Zapp and Har Mar Superstar intertwined amongst their productions, the exciting duo continue to revitalize a retro sound.

Live reviews

The energy at the show was spectacular as the crowd was jamming from the start. Cherub opened with fan favorite "Disco Shit," right into "XOXO." The crowd jumped, danced, grinded and sang along. It definitely felt more like a club or even a rave than a standard concert.

Cherub has three albums out now and they played material from all, but a bit heavier from their newest album - Year of the Caprese. I believe the strongest song of the night was from their debut -MoM and Dad, with "Monogomy," which was played in the early part of the show. Following that single, the guys didn't waste any time. They flowed one song into the next, never letting the music die down. They fit 18 songs into their set, staying high energy the entire time.

They took a very brief break following their set closer before coming back on stage for their most popular tune - "Doses and Mimosas." This single has actually been so successful that they re-released it on their third album. The opening notes sent the crowd into a huge frenzy.

Overall impressions - it's been cool seeing this band grow over the past year. They should continue to get bigger but I don't imagine the venues they play getting larger. They're a band that benefits the most from playing small clubs, as it creates a more intimate setting. The main take away is that crowds for Cherub shows are nuts! Get ready for a dancing experience. I guarantee nobody you're standing around will be a stranger by the end of the night.

It's really hard to describe how good Cherub is live. You wouldn't believe how amazing they sound - Jason and Jordan will actually not just hit their falsettos, but they sound twice as good live than they do on the radio. I think they'd be even better in a closed air environment, but I saw them at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in San Diego and they were still awesome.

I thought they would use a Macbook like most electronica-esque artists these days, but they don't - they actually bring guitars and play their songs, which is refreshing. Doses and Mimosas was definitely the best - when Jason hits those falsetto highs, it's absolutely stunning to hear. I also really enjoyed Jazzercise - the whole crowd danced along to it.

You shouldn't expect their music to sound exactly like it does when they recorded it in the studio - it has so much more energy and personality when performed live, there's no comparison to one another anymore. You can think of one like steak and the other is lobster - both are fantastic, in different ways.

Both members of the band have great synergy with one another, and they were joking with each other and making fun of one another. They even covered a song by another artist which I didn't recognize. The crowd was mostly teens and young adults, and you can expect the smell of alcohol in the air.

Worst concert I've ever been to. I saw Cherub a year ago at the same venue and it was great. This year, the openers were embarrassingly bad (unless pressing play on someone else's remix, bouncing up and down and incessantly dropping f-bombs is somehow good to some people)...so bad that I almost left twice because I couldn't bear the idiocy. That being said...I didn't even see Cherub, because at 11:30, they were still running setup and sound check. I understand that changing out setups is complicated, but when the two "acts" before you consisted of nothing more than drunken morons with a single DJ table, there's no reason that you shouldn't already be fully operational with your full band setup. Cherub has fun music, but it isn't good enough to justify sitting through the drivel that preceded them while they do god knows what backstage while clinging to an inflated sense of self importance that makes them think they can traipse on stage at midnight for a show with an 8 PM door. I'll continue listening to them for free on Amazon Prime and won't make the mistake of a third attempt to see them live.

Cherub, where do we start. From connecting with the audience to enlightening the crowds, and paying attention to what attracts and inspires individuals. This entire team stays aspired to inspire. I for one enjoy how Nifty Cherub gets on stage. Keeping the floor interacting with the stage making each and every one of us feeling connected and part of the show. Cherub keeps us connected in the music like old African tribes around the watering hole the fans start to chant and Cherub shows how organic and talented they are by incorporating our voice into the performance like band practice in the barn. This Crew has some of the few performers that really participate with a veriety of methods to keep the fans asking for more!!

Not only was Cherub amazing, but the opening bands as well (Gibbz and Ghost Beach.) Gibbz is adorably talented and Ghost Beach is crazy! I knew a few songs by both bands but even the songs I didn't know we're so fun live and made me a big fan. CHERUB WAS AWESOME! It was a fantastic mix of new and old songs, and the chemistry between Jason Jordan and the audience was magical. After the show I got a really cool sweatshirt and then me and my friend were standing out front and I saw Jason get into a car right infront of us! I was waving at him and he rolled down the window and invited us to an after party! I swear! He was so sweet and I'll always remember it. THANK YOU CHERUB!

This was one of the best shows I've ever been to—and I've been to a decent number of shows. They totally killed it. It was just like a big party the whole time, you could tell they were loving the audience and we were loving them right back. The best part is that they're really cool guys. We hung out with them after the show and they were totally normal dudes. Cherub fan for life.

I've seen Cherub twice and they always put on a great show. The energy is insane! Jordan always talks between songs and really engages with the audience. We even got to meet Jason after the show the other night! Seeing them live really shows how talented they are and how much they care about their fans. Best concerts I've ever been to.

This is my third time seeing Cherub. They have never disappointed me. They play favorable tracks the crowd wants to hear. This past show they told us what bar they were going to afterward to meet them and we actually met them. Any chance I have to see them perform I will go.

Such an amazing show at the fonda theater last night . Had such and amazing times. Don't be a stranger cherub and come back to LA. We love you cherub.... got to meet and greet with Jason and jordan. Meet Jason dog so adorable.

58th Australian National Cherub Championships

The Australian Cherub fleet met blustery conditions at Wangi Wangi for yesterday’s invitation race at the Vaikobi 58th Australian National Cherub Championship. Aaron Kirkby and Matt Hall took out the Invitation Race as the first and only finishing boat out of 42 cherubs in 3185 ‘You Can’t.’

A strong nor-easter built steadily into the afternoon, bringing large swell and waves of up to two metres on Lake Macquarie. Wind readings averaged in the early 20s, topping 26 knots at nearby Norah Head weather station.

Kirkby and Hall’s impressive performance began with crossing a jam-packed start line and enduring extreme conditions while the fleet quickly dwindled due to breakages and exhaustion.

Many spectacular nose dives, pitchpoles, and cartwheels made for a highly entertaining show for spectators.

A mass exodus shortly followed, with a steady return of boats to the Wangi Amateur RSL Sailing Club as the breeze wreaked havoc across the course.

Minimal injuries were recorded, but several sailors cheekily reported that both spirits and egos were severely bruised. Some vessels, however, weren’t so lucky.

After doing the rounds at last night’s social pub crawl at the Wangi Workers, multiple crews reported serious impending repairs to complete before the first official races of the regatta. Some of these included:

3187: Broken lowers (hardware snapped)

3104: Vang and outhaul snapped off the boom

3077: Tiller Snapped clean in half, rudder gantry tried to abandon ship and “vibrate itself off”

3157: Port Spreader M.I.A

3181: Jib sheet cleat ripped out

3197: Kite retrieval block broke

3059: Transom bar cracked

Despite challenging conditions, regatta entrant numbers have seen a healthy return following the COVID-19 pandemic, with 42 boats registered to race from seven different sailing clubs across the country. Ten boats successfully travelled from Western Australia via container, with the 32 remaining boats from NSW. The regatta is the first Cherub National Titles held since the 2019/2020 57th National Championship took place at Darling Point, Brisbane.

The first official race begins on December 29, east of Fishing Point on Lake Macquarie’s racetrack. The Wangi Wangi foreshore is perfect for viewing, with the remaining forecast for the week promising consistent sea breeze from the Northeast. Yesterday’s live stream is available on the Cherub National Council of Australia’s Facebook page.

Nashville-based duo CHERUB will be hitting the road again later this year during a sizable 17-city tour across America. Their Baby Angels Tour kicks off September 26th in San Francisco and continues into November visiting cities like Seattle, Dallas, Columbia, Denver and Minneapolis. Prior to the tour, they'll be making an appearance at Imagine Music Festival along with Diplo , Above & Beyond and Marshmello . Earlier this year, the duo wrapped up their Free Form Tour which originally launched in 2018 and was joined by Maddy O'Neal and Mosie.

UPDATE: Tour dates have been extended into December making additional stops in Raleigh, Athens, Knoxville, Louisville and Nashville.

CHERUB will continue supporting their third studio album 'Bleed Gold, Piss Excellence' released on October 14th, 2016 via Columbia Records. Also in 2016, the indie duo embarked on their Bleed Gold Tour across America along with special guests FRENSHIP and Boo Seeka. The following year, they teamed up with The Floozies and launched their Your Girlfriend Already Bought Tickets Tour with support from Probcause .
