Princess Cruises to homeport two ships in Southampton in 2026

  • Share by email

Princess Cruises has released its “most extensive UK and Europe programme ever” for 2026, which will see two ships homeporting in Southampton.

The line will sail 222 European voyages between March and November 2026, offering 20% more cruises than 2025.

On general sale from May 23, the collection features 59 itineraries visiting 101 destinations across 29 countries, with cruises ranging from five to 42 nights in length.

Customers in the Captain’s Circle can book from May 16 and are eligible for a promotion of up to a £100 discount if they book before August 31.

The 3,600-passenger Sky Princess (pictured) will homeport in Southampton for the sixth consecutive season, and will operate sailings from seven to 28 nights in duration to northern Europe, the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean.

New for 2026 is a 28-night Scandinavian & Iberian Adventure itinerary sailing roundtrip from Southampton and calling at Skagen, Copenhagen, Warnemunde, Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallinn, Zeebrugge, Vigo, Cadiz, Malaga, Cartagena, Lisbon and Bilbao. Prices start at £2,749.

Sky Princess will also operate a 14-night Total Solar Eclipse cruise departing on August 12, 2026.

For the first time, the 3,560-passenger Majestic Princess will sail round-trip from Southampton, offering British Isles and northern Europe itineraries for durations of 11, 12 and 14 nights.

Sun Princess will sail in the Mediterranean for the third consecutive season, operating seven, 14 and 21-night cruises from three homeports: Civitavecchia, Piraeus and Barcelona.

A seven-night sailing from Barcelona to Civitavecchia calling at Gibraltar, Marseille, Genoa and La Spezia costs from £939.

Enchanted Princess will offer Mediterranean sailings from its homeport of Civitavecchia, with five, seven, eight and 14-night cruises available.

A five-night Greece & Adriatic Sampler itinerary calling at Kotor and Corfu leads in at £469.

Sapphire Princess will operate 12-night Norway, Denmark and Sweden itineraries from its homeport Copenhagen.

A 12-night round-trip cruise to Visby, Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, Klaipeda, Gdansk, Oslo and Skagen costs from £1,459.

All five ships will operate transatlantic crossings, with sailings ranging from 14 to 29 nights.

Eithne Williamson, vice-president of Princess Cruises UK and Europe, said: “There is so much to love with our 2026 Europe cruise collection, with 59 unique itineraries to choose from visiting some of the world’s most famous and iconic destinations, and the lowest fares offered at the time of Princess launching a cruise programme.

“Sun Princess, the most impressive, luxurious and stunning ship that Princess has ever created, sails the glorious Mediterranean, the number one cruise destination for Brits, for the third consecutive year.

“Majestic Princess will be homeported in the UK for the first time alongside Sky Princess, and we’re excited that UK guests can experience these beautiful ships straight from Southampton.”

She added: “We’re certain our UK guests will love the round-trip Copenhagen and new roundtrip Civitavecchia itineraries as they can combine their Princess cruise with a pre or post-cruise stay in the charming Danish capital or the historic city of Rome.”

When cruises are cheaper than trains and planes

P lanes, trains and automobiles may be the obvious and often most cost-effective ways to get from A to B but, surprisingly, cruise ships can be, too.

Repositioning sailings are the unsung bargains of the cruise world, where canny travellers can often pick up voyages at vastly reduced rates – and give more orthodox forms of transport a run for their money.

The key to finding such a deal comes from studying cruise schedules for sailings – some of which may be just one or two nights – that go directly from one place to another.

While low-cost flights are generally accepted as the cheapest way to travel internationally, global airfares are on the rise – and by the time you pile on charges for luggage, food and drink and the cost of travelling from the airport to the city centre – where cruise ships invariably dock – taking the sea-going route can emerge as the unlikely winner (and you’ll arrive in considerably more style).

It can even work for travelling to different parts of the UK, though options tend to be restricted to Fred Olsen Cruise Lines when it repositions ships on overnight voyages between the likes of Southampton and Newcastle, Rosyth or other ports further north.

Italy to Spain from £54

For city-hopping stays in and around Europe, MSC Cruises is the one to watch, as it enables customers to book many of its Mediterranean cruises on a port-to-port basis, rather than taking the entire voyage.

For instance, travellers can book one-nighters between Genoa and Barcelona or Genoa and Marseilles for as little as £54pp, while an overnight sailing between Valencia and Marseilles is £72pp, with these prices obviously including meals. The £54 figure is based on an October 11 departure. For a flight from Genoa to Barcelona on the same date, Skyscanner (skyscanner.net) quotes a service with ITA Airways for £111.99pp, including luggage.

Tony Andrews, the managing director of travel agency cruise.co.uk, says: “MSC doesn’t talk about this enough, as these one-nighters are a great way for people to have a city-break-style experience with a cruise as part of it. It’s a really interesting way to do it.”

The leisurely way to cross the pond

Transatlantic crossings are another potential area to pick up a sea-going bargain, but it’s a question of waiting until the price is right, as rates continually fluctuate.

Many lines offer transatlantic repositionings in spring and autumn, while Cunard runs the only regular crossings between Southampton and New York on its liner Queen Mary 2.

On one occasion some years ago, when prices dropped to just a few hundred pounds, I was sailing from Southampton on the QM2 and met a passenger who had opted to do the same purely because the rates were so much cheaper than flying and he wasn’t in a rush (the crossing takes a week).

Cunard’s prices have since risen overall, but there are still reduced rates on some departures that make this tactic worth pursuing if you fancy a more leisurely way to cross the pond.

Alison Earnshaw, the managing director of online agencies Cruise 118 and Six Star Cruises, says that when rates drop to £600 or £700, taking the ocean route becomes more cost-effective as transatlantic flights have become so expensive.

Another plus is the lack of luggage restrictions, because on cruises you can famously take as much as will fit in your cabin.

“We’ve had people booking to sail to see family in the States with lots of luggage that they’re taking out for them, and then flying back lighter,” she explains. “Alternatively, we’ve had customers who’ve flown to New York for the shopping and sail back as they can bring as much as they want.”

Swap Blighty for Barbados – for £1,129

The Caribbean is another region that comes up trumps for value, with P&O Cruises offering a two-week repositioning voyage from Southampton to Barbados (with stops in Antigua, St Kitts and St Lucia) from £1,129. This price is for an October 18 departure, and includes the flight back to Britain.

A return fare to Barbados with British Airways (including luggage) during the same period is £733pp. Inter-island flights with Caribbean Airlines (caribbean-airlines.com) between Barbados and other islands in this itinerary amount to approximately £714pp. Add in hotel stays and it’s clear just how much you can save by taking to the water.

Going global

Miles Morgan, the founder of Miles Morgan Travel, cited world cruises as another option for good-value deals, when cruise companies carve itineraries into segments if they haven’t been selling well, enabling customers to buy legs such as Sydney to Singapore.

“You need to look at sailings a few months in advance, as this is when they tend to be carved up,” he says. “So look now for autumn sailings and at Christmas for the spring. There might be nothing going or you might do well.”

I soon found a 17-night sector of a world cruise on Cunard’s Queen Victoria, departing Singapore on March 26 and arriving in Cape Town on April 12. It calls at Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Port Elizabeth in South Africa. From £1,099pp, not including flights, it works out at £64pp a night – about the same as a Travelodge.

Flights for the same routing between Singapore and Cape Town for the same time period via Skyscanner amount to approximately £1,150pp, including luggage. Another win for the cruise.

Culture & History

When you have had your fill of cathedrals and castles, immerse yourself in the intriguing blend of cultures that is the hallmark of Mediterranean life. Visit tree-lined Las Ramblas in Barcelona, enjoy the quaint and otherworldly charm of Trogir as you wander through the marbled town, admire picture-perfect Mykonos with its whitewashed houses, be captivated by an orchestral performance at the Grand Theatre in Ephesus, or float down the canals of Venice in a gondola. For something more urban, there is the vibrant nightlife of bars and nightclubs in party capitals like Rhodes and Ibiza, or perhaps explore the contemporary art scene at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, or indulge yourself (and a loved one) on a shopping trip in Milan.

Famed for white beaches, emerald pine woods, and sapphire waters, the Adriatic coast is also not to be missed. Connect with nature at Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia with its amazing turquoise lakes on terraces and pristine waterfalls, or Gargano National Park in Italy with its extraordinary sea beds and beautiful caves. Whether it is a tranquil haven you seek, or the revelry of open-air festivals, you will find yourself basking in the warmth of both sunny weather and Mediterranean hospitality.

Food, Glorious Food!

All the sightseeing is bound to work up an appetite, and there’s no better place to be than this foodies’ paradise. Whether it is pizza in Pisa, tapas in Tenerife, linguine in liguria, or fresh seafood in Santorini, there is a whole range of gastronomic delights to enjoy. And let’s not forget the wine! Embark on a wine-tasting journey at a Lisbon market or Vineyard in Bordeaux. Coffee is also a serious matter in that part of the world, so when it’s time to rest your feet, there will be no shortage of vibrant cafes to choose from. The Mediterranean is the one place you really want to push the boat out, because…life is full of pasta-bilities!

The Moscow metro now has a full 4G coverage

  • On 19 Oct 2018

The Tele2 mobile network company became the first to build an infrastructure for 100% stations of the Moscow's metro. The high-quality 4G internet is now available on all 259 stations of the Moscow's metro, Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and monorail.

The operator has secured a 100% 4G indoor-coverage internet an all stations of the metropolitan metro, including the passageways, pavilions, and stairways. The investments into the project have exceeded 800 million rubles.

The Moscow underground is a specific infrastructure object, which has its own particularities. All works on designing, installation, and adjustment of the hardware should have been conducted exceptionally during night hours when the metro is closed for entry. A sufficient number of stations have a status of cultural heritage, thus, the network development has required additional approvement from the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow.

The network coverage within the metro system opens new horizons for the analysis of the "big data". Tele2 Network has analyzed the users' activity during the summer months and has indicated the busiest metro lines, which were: Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya, Zamoskvoretskaya and Kaluga-Riga lines. During the summer months, on the stations of Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya lines the subscribers have downloaded 125 TByte of internet-traffic, have made over 2 million calls with the total duration of 27 thousand hours, which equals to 3 years.
