Africa Safaris in Southern & East Africa using state-of-the-art vehicles and offering both camping and accommodated small group tours.

Drifters Adventure Tours offer safari tours in state-of-the-art vehicles throughout Southern and East Africa, with a range of camping tours and accommodated tours available for small groups of 4 to 17 guests. They also offer private tailor-made guided camping tours to the National Parks of Botswana for small groups of 2 to 12 guests.  They  warmly welcome adventurers of all ages, whether embarking on solo expeditions or journeying together, who possess an innate desire to explore, discover, and deeply engage with the captivating beauty, rich culture, and storied history of Africa.

Your tour guides are an important part of your safari experience.  All Drifters tour guides are qualified full-time professionals, that are specifically registered and licensed in order to provide you with an informative, safe and enjoyable experience whatever your choice of safari. Their guides are mature adults who are young at heart and enjoy their work.

These tours (with the exception of the private Botswana safaris) require participation from all group members. This includes assisting with the food preparation, washing of dishes, keeping the vehicle clean and the setting up of camp. Please keep in mind that flexibility and an open mind will greatly contribute to an enjoyable safari.

The countries their tours travel to include: South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini (Swaziland), Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.  

All Drifters Adventure Tours vehicles are designed in a manner that reflects their three decades of experience in the safari industry. Passenger cabin, body work, and storage areas are all custom-built to their specifications, taking passenger safety, comfort and reliability into account. All vehicles are inspected, serviced, and completely re-supplied before each tour departure.

Drifters provide you with all the camping equipment you will need. Tents, chairs, camp beds and much more. They use custom built safari dome tents on their camping tours, which can comfortably accommodate two guests. The tents are made of durable canvas and have mosquito netting already built in.

On camping tours each guest will get their own camp bed for the tour which offers comfortable sleeping while camping in the middle of nowhere. Please note that they do not provide sleeping bags and guests are required to bring their own.

Small group tours 

The tours have no more than 16 travellers, ranging from 18 to 55 years old. We have selected tours that offer unbeatable value for money allowing you to see Africa and visit places you have only dreamed of. They also have their own canoes, safari vehicles and adventure equipment, reducing the cost even more.  You also get peace of mind knowing that Drifters are accountable for these extras and that they do not have to rely on out-sourced companies.

Drifters Tours are inclusive and include all highlights in the tour price and do not include single supplements. If you are booked on the trip, it is GUARANTEED to run.

The tours are designed to enjoy the natural environment, but you can expect more comfort on their tours. Taking to heart what the traveller requires on an overland tour with a mix of comfort and adventure is what Drifters pride themselves on.

What is a drifters adventure tour like, drifters vehicles.

Drifters have over 60 state of the art, custom-built vehicles designed to take you to ‘off the beaten track’ locations while providing comfort, great viewing and safety. They have 4×4 trucks and 4×4 land cruisers to suit the terrain of the area.

Drifters Guides

There is one crew member for your tour. Each guide is qualified and registered with the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa and South African Tourism Association and have years of knowledge and experience that are willing to share with you. They will assist you with all aspects of the tour from setting up camp cooking, to getting you safely to your destination. Their experience will provide you with informative tours about the fauna and flora of the area. The guides have been chosen because they are mature, but young at heart and have a love for people and Africa!

Accommodation and Campsites

Drifters have their own exclusive lodges that stretch along the Southern African sub-continent. They offer the perfect accommodation for everyone. The lodges are situated in the wilderness of the Wildcoast, sub-tropical paradises offering dreamy accommodation to busy, vibey cities. The comfortable accommodation allows you to have a relaxed, stress-free safari with plenty of time for you to explore your surroundings. Most of the lodges have swimming pools, bars and restaurants.

The equipment and tents for the camping areas are of the highest standard. They own their own retail stores so are able to keep abreast of the trends taking place in the market. They also develop and manufacture most of their equipment. The campsite has chairs, fold-out tables, tents (with built-in mosquito nets) and stretcher beds/cots. You are asked to bring your own sleeping bags, towels and pillows, although sleeping bags can be purchased on tour.

Drifters Food on Tour

On camping tours you can enjoy tasty meals from local organic ingredients that are purchased from the communities. Meals are prepared and served at the truck with a special state-of-the-art kitchen. The Lodge tours provide meals at the establishment where you can enjoy restaurant-quality food. The breakfasts are fairly simple consisting of bread (or toast), spreads, cereals, fruit, rusks with occasional hot breakfasts such as eggs bacon or pancakes. Lunches include sandwiches with a variety of fillings and salads. Dinners such as curries, stews, pastas, braais and even roasts will be enjoyed around the campfire.

They did not show up

Booked a Chobe Safari with them and exchanged lots of emails beforehand but then they simply did not show up at the agreed time. The entire day was lost as obviously it was not possible to find anyone else.
