During a four-night run at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif. in early January, the veteran rock group paid homage to the venue they first played in 1975, while also offering tributes to some fallen comrades they’ve lost along the way.

“It’s good to be back here at the Forum,” singer Henley said at one of the gigs. “We consider the Forum to be our home field. … They’ve improved the place a lot since then. Remember all those ugly yellow and orange seats?” he joked about the different color scheme when the Lakers played at the Forum before moving to Staples Center in 1999. The 21-song set also featured nods to late bandmates Glenn Frey and Randy Meisner, as well as their “dear friend” Jimmy Buffett via Henley’s 1984 solo hit “The Boys of Summer,” a fitting tribute to the beach life-loving “Margaritaville” singer who died in September 2023.

"Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed." Eagles announce UK and Netherlands dates as part of their Long Goodbye final world tour

Eagles have added a special three-night residency in Manchester to their final ever tour

The Eagles

The Eagles have added a special mini-residency in Manchester's new Co Op Live Arena as part of their final world tour - dubbed The Long Goodbye. The rock legends will play three separate shows at the venue this coming summer, marking their first announced European dates of 2024. The trio of Manchester shows will be followed by a stop-off in the Netherlands, where The Eagles will play Gelredome in Arnhem.

The band are currently in the middle of the North American leg of the Long Goodbye tour, which continues from next month and wraps up in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 16.

Speaking about their final tour, the band have stated:

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds. Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years. We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful.

"Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle. The official farewell tour is currently underway. We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round.  So, scheduling information will be released as dates are set. The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand.  But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up. Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

Eagles: The Long Goodbye 2024 European Tour: How To Get Tickets

by Em Casalena March 6, 2024, 5:10 pm

If you’re a diehard Eagles fan and live in the United Kingdom or the Netherlands, you’re in luck this year. The famed American rockers recently announced a residency tour that is slated to start in May of this year, and it could very well be their last time in either country.

Videos by American Songwriter

eagles european tour 2024

The Long Goodbye Tour is being promoted as the band’s final tour, so this is definitely not a residency to miss, since this could be the last time the band will perform in the UK and the Netherlands. Supporting the residency are American rock band and fellow Hall of Fame musicians Steely Dan.

The residency will start on May 31 in Manchester, United Kingdom at the Co-Op Live Arena. The residency will continue there on June 1, June 4, June 7, and June 8. It’s expected to wrap up on June 13 in Arnhem, Netherlands at the GelreDome. An additional final date in the Netherlands on June 15 will also be available for presale soon.

The Long Goodbye Tour started back in September of 2023 in the United States. Since then, the band has continued touring well into 2024, with additional tour dates announced in the US and Canada.

In a press release for the tour that was posted last July, the band released a statement on the upcoming tour and a look back on their 52-year career.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” said the announcement , “[..] Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle. […] We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round.”

How To Get Your Tickets

It’s always sad to see a band retire for touring, but this is all the more reason to get your hands on tickets to the UK or Netherlands shows ASAP. Luckily, buying tickets for the European residency is super easy. Live Nation is the official ticketing platform for this tour, so you’ll be able to purchase general admission and VIP tickets through Ticketmaster .

If your chosen tour date is sold out by the time you’re ready to buy tickets, you might have better luck with Viagogo . This platform is backed by the FanProtect Guarantee, so you won’t have to sweat about potential scams or fake passes.

The Eagles started back in 1971 and rose through the ranks to be one of the most defining rock bands of the 1970s. Their music is beloved for good reason, seamlessly blending rock, folk, and country styling together. The band’s debut album and its hit song “Take It Easy” are what catapulted them to fame, as well as their 1976 album Hotel California .

You’d think with over 50 years under their belt, their recent live performances would leave fans wanting. Luckily, the band’s still got it. If the nostalgic atmosphere doesn’t take your breath away, the band’s incredible and time-enduring musicianship will. Expect a great medley of the hits from this final tour!

This is likely going to be the Eagles’ very last tour, so don’t miss out on the chance to see them in the UK and the Netherlands. Get your tickets quickly before they sell out!

Eagles Continue to Add Dates to Final Tour

eagles european tour 2024

Eagles in 2023 (Photo: Kevin Mazur/Getty Images; used with permission)

Eagles have added their first 2024 overseas dates to their final tour, with five concerts in Manchester, UK and two in the Netherlands, in late May and early June. The group resumed the farewell tour in January with four concerts in Los Angeles; U.S. dates currently run to mid-March. Tickets for all of the shows are available here . See the complete itinerary below.

After more than 50 years of touring, and consistently selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide, the Eagles announced on July 6, 2023, that “The Long Goodbye” would be the band’s final tour. The first (of many) shows began September 7 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, the first of seven concerts in the northeast that month. The Eagles’ long-time contemporaries, Steely Dan, were selected to join these historic shows and commemorating their own 50+ year career. However, Donald Fagen had an unspecified illness and missed many of the November 2023 dates. And for the U.K. and European shows, the Doobie Brothers will be filling in for Steely Dan as the opening act.

During “The Long Goodbye,” the Eagles – Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands. The tour, presented by Live Nation, is expected to continue into 2025. They’ve also announced a new, career-spanning collection, To The Limit , coming in April 2024.

On the day of the original tour announcement, the band shared a lengthy statement: “The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds. Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years. We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful. Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle. The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages. The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand. But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

With love and gratitude, The Eagles

Sure hope they come to Canada or at least Northeastern USA . There will always be a following

Timflyte

How a band can have a 52 year career with only one original member, and the drummer at that is beyond me, especially, when half of the original band is still alive, ( Randy & Bernie ), and the first added member ( Don F ) …. People gave CC Revisited flack about not having the original guys, but Cook & Cosmo had 50% of CCR on stage every night they played, much more than Henley does. This is an act that should’ve stopped when Glen passed. People use to make jokes when The Drifters or the Coasters, or any of those do wop bands went out performing w only one original member, how Henley got everyone not to question his motives in calling his act “The Eagles” is saying a lot. Even Jeff Lynne renamed ELO for his tours. Oh well, it goes back to that old Carney saying “there’s one born every minute”. Nothing against Vince or Timothy or Joe, just don’t call it “The Eagles” when 50% of the original band is not in it .

Bk

Great music is still great music. The harmonies and playing are still tight. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Sorry you are going to miss some of the best music made in 50 years

DANIEL

Always been the Eagles and always will be. When Mickey Mantle left the Yankees, they still call them the Yankees. If you don’t like the music, don’t listen.

Gene

I have seen the Eagles multiple times as far back as the mid 1970s and I can tell you that without a doubt they are as good the today as the first time I saw them at the Cotton Bowl in ’75

Walton

Will the Eagles be in Oklahoma, Kansas or Texas on their last tour? There are 100’s of 1000’s of their fans who would like to see them. Please help with this. We need to hear and see them One more time. Please help and reply ASAP. Thanks so much for your time and consideration on this matter!

JOAN BRYANT

Please come to Los Angeles, or somewhere close, I would love to see The Eagles. I’ve been to many concerts but always missed the Eagles.

Da Mick

Why do I get the feeling the Eagles “Farewell Tours” are going to be much like those of Cher and Elton John?

Jill

Don has major back issues and always said he didn’t want to tour without a Frey.. This is the final TOUR most likely, but just like Dead and Co they will still perform

Fred

This will be an interesting tour with Steely Dan being the support act. WIth SD being heavily jazz influences and the The Eagles being heavily country influenced. Who’s idea was this anyway? Love Best Classic Bands. Read it every morning. Thanks FS

They have shared the same bill for many years .. not strange at all

Grasshopper

Got to see Eagles just after Glenn passed, great then as always. These guys have been on the road, together or solo, for many years. Time for family they missed growing up and take care of themselves. Thanks for many years of music guys and your family

Poor debber

I will always play Eagles music. If ever there was a heaven on Earth, it’s been an Eagles concert. They all still make me swoon. They were the pretty boys at hotel California. The stories they need to tell us… are still a mystery. This Long good bye is killing me.

I have always wanted to see The Eagles as a matter of fact it is a bucket list concert. My very first time going to the see them and I was not disappointed. Three and a half hours of pure music with a small break. I sang along with almost every song the band played. I have gotten used to politics in concerts this was a politics free zone. thank you so much for the break.

One gripe if I have one it seemed like the special guest was Joe Walsh, he played James Gang to Eagles songs. It is a small gripe because the guy is just amazing. One thing I noticed just from being old when the girl came out in the Hotel California set to flip the album she actually did not flip the the album. yes I am old. but it was a great effect.

I would go see them again in 1/2 a heart beat.

What. A. Show! I grew up listening to the Eagles, either on album, CD, or my dad playing his guitar. It was a truly wonderful experience to be able to see them live with my dad and watch his enjoyment of seeing a band he’s loved for so long live. The staging and pace of the show was absolutely amazing and set the tone perfectly, and the graphics and lighting designers definitely did their best work. We were close to the stage and it was absolutely fascinating to watch all the cameras recording the event, as well. The band was exceptional but the team behind them is definitely to be commended for this one! I hope everyone who sees this tour has the same level of enjoyment my family and I did!

Experiencing the September, 2019 Eagles "Hotel California" concert at the MGM was a musical trip into near perfection.

The sound was very good even in our very expensive nosebleed seats.

The place was packed and the audience nonstop in its loud and persistent appreciation of all things Eagles, especially new members Deacon Frey and Vince Gill.

Longtime mega-talented members Henley, Walsh and Smith were true crowd pleasers, as they always are.

Having a full orchestra and an angelic choir from UNLV supporting the endeavor was at times ethereally mesmerizing to the point of enthrallment.

Once again the Eagles have lived up to their reputation as purveyors of musical excellence.

LOS ANGELES , July 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — After more than 50 years of touring, and consistently selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide, the Eagles announced today that their upcoming “The Long Goodbye”  will be the band’s final tour.

Thirteen shows will be initially announced. The first set of dates will begin September 7, 2023 , in New York .

The Eagles’ long-time contemporaries and fellow Hall of Famers, Steely Dan,  will be joining these historic shows and commemorating their own 50+ year career.

Presale tickets and VIP packages will be available starting Wednesday, July 12 for all announced shows. The general on-sale will start Friday, July 14 at 10:00 AM local time.

During “The Long Goodbye,” the Eagles – Don Henley , Joe Walsh , Timothy B. Schmit , with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands. The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

Over the band’s more than 50 years of touring, the Eagles have performed more than 1,000 concerts around the world, accounting for more than 15 million tickets. Eagles’ tours have consistently ranked in the Top 10 of both concert industry publications, Billboard and Pollstar .

In the Fall of 1971, the Eagles formed, pioneered, and personified a uniquely American musical style blending country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop sensibilities, and would go onto become one of the most creatively and commercially successful bands of all time.  In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons.

The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six #1 albums, and topped the singles charts five times. They earned six GRAMMY Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their very first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

The band’s Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.  Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum.  After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and earned two GRAMMY Awards for “New Kid In Town” and “Hotel California.”

Bryan Katz, Editor

The Eagles have set what they call their final UK tour dates as part of the veteran group's final Long Goodbye tour . On Monday (Jan. 22), the band — Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey — announced a three-show run at the new Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester on May 31, June. June 1 and 4.

The concert at the UK's largest indoor arena will be supported by Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Steely Dan, with tickets going on sale to the general public on Friday (January 26) at 10am. GMT via Living Nation . In addition, the band announced a concert on June 13 at the Gelredrome in Arnhem, Netherlands.

The band is expected to hit the road again on February 2nd for the first of two shows at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, followed by a series of North American stops in St. Louis, Omaha, Tulsa, Houston, New Orleans, Hollywood (Fla. ), Orlando, Toronto and Charlotte before heading overseas.

During a four-date run at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California in early January, the veteran rock band paid tribute to the venue they first played in 1975, while also paying tribute to some fallen comrades lost along the way.

“It's good to be back here at the Forum,” singer Henley said at one of the concerts. “We consider the Forum to be our home. … They have greatly improved the place since then. Remember all those ugly yellow and orange seats?' joked about the different color scheme when the Lakers played at the Forum before moving to Staples Center in 1999. The 21-song set also included nods to late bandmates Glenn Frey and Randy Meisner, as well as their “dear friend” Jimmy Buffett via Henley's 1984 solo hit “The Boys of Summer,” a fitting tribute to the beloved beach-loving “Margaritaville” singer who died in September 2023.

The Eagles are back on stage for their Long Goodbye final tour.

In July, the Grammy-winning band announced their tour dates and have since continued to add more cities and dates.

“We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful,” they added. “Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle.”

Though it’s been a couple of months since they began their tour in September, fans will still have a chance to see them.

After kicking off their tour in New York’s Madison Square Garden on September 7, they made stops in major cities like Boston, Denver and Atlanta. November 18 was their last scheduled tour date for the year, but they will make their return in the first week of the new year.

The Eagles have announced they will be embarking on an “official farewell tour”, rounding out a “miraculous 52-year odyssey”.

With five No 1 singles, six No 1 albums, and six Grammy Awards, the five-piece rock band, formed in 1971, are considered one of the most successful and longest-running acts in popular music history.

“The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages. We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round. So, scheduling information will be released as dates are set. The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand. But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up,” the group said in a Thursday (7 July) statement, shared with Variety .

“Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

Why Travis Kelce Showed up to the Kentucky Derby Without Taylor Swift

preview for Taylor Swift’s Iconic Career Evolution

He was later seen in more casual wear at the Sports Illustrated Revel at the Races party at Ice House.

It’s not too surprising that Swift wasn’t at the Derby. The couple also turned down an invite for the Met Gala on Monday, because Swift’s Eras Tour resumes in Paris on May 9 and she was planning to travel. She is most likely already on her way to Europe in preparation for her first concert or getting ready at home.

The official Kentucky Derby Instagram account shared a clip showing Kelce celebrating after winning a bet on a race, which they captioned, “When you show up to the Kentucky Derby and your first bet hits.”

When asked if he’d be attending any European tour dates, Kelce told Entertainment Tonight , “You know I gotta go support.”

He went on, “We’re both very career driven, we both love what we do, and so any chance that I can show my support to her and knowing that she’s shown me all the support in the world throughout the season, it’s just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay...She’s so amazing at what she does, and to find that creativity, to see where she likes to pull things from and really just how she listens to music, is really very eye opening for me.”

Co-op Live announces Travis Scott gig amid ongoing opening crisis

The new music venue has postponed concerts from the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Keane.

eagles european tour 2024

Co-op Live has announced it will host a Travis Scott gig amid ongoing issues which have seen the new music venue postpone its opening multiple times.

On its social media, the Manchester-based arena, which is set to become the largest in the UK – seating 23,500 people, wrote: “Just announced: @trvisXX

“Travis Scott’s Utopia – Circus Maximus Tour is set to continue this summer with a headline performance here at Co-op Live on 13 July 2024.”

On May 2, the venue provided an update after it postponed a number of gigs and said it would be taking “a short pause to events at Co-op Live to fully ensure the safety and security of fans and artists visiting the venue”.

The day previous, a gig by American rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was cancelled at the last minute due to a “technical issue” during a soundcheck.

It is understood that a nozzle from the ventilation and air conditioning system fell to the ground from the ceiling shortly before the event was due to take place.

Tim Leiweke, chairman and chief executive of US-based venue operator Oak View Group, apologised for the delays and to “all those that have been affected”.

He said: “As many of you will know, it’s not been the smooth start we had planned for, and I know that has caused a huge amount of disruption and frustration to thousands of people.”

“The team here is working incredibly hard to get the building up and running, and we look forward to welcoming you to the arena from 14 May 2024″, he added.

British rock band Elbow are the next artists scheduled to perform at the indoor arena and they will be the venue’s opening act if the performance goes ahead as planned.

The issues began following a test event in April which led to Co-op Live announcing it would have to reschedule dates for Peter Kay’s stand-up show.

Kay, who was meant to be the “first artist in the world to perform at Manchester Co-op Live”, according to promotional posters, had his shows moved to April 29 and 30 before they moved again to May 23 and May 24, as the venue was still not ready to open.

Co-op Live also announced it would move The Black Keys gig to May 15 and said it had been “undertaking an extensive protocol of testing critical procedures to ensure all areas are ready for fans”.

Olivia Rodrigo’s May 3 and 4 dates were postponed and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s May 1 performance took place on May 4 after it was moved to the AO Arena.

On May 2, a Keane gig scheduled for May 5 was postponed while Take That’s slew of concerts were moved to the AO Arena.

The Eagles, Nicki Minaj, Pet Shop Boys, Stevie Nicks and Eric Clapton are all due to play the arena, but so far only a test event by Rick Astley has gone ahead.

Co-op Arena – Manchester

A Co-op Group spokesperson previously said: “Co-op is a sponsor and does not own or run the venue, and we have made it clear to Oak View Group, who are responsible for the building, that the impact on ticketholders must be addressed as a priority.

“We are pleased that they will shortly be putting plans in place to do so.”

They added that safety checks would be independently verified so Co-op members and other ticket holders “can be reassured that the venue has the very highest levels of security and safety measures”.

In 2021, American rapper Scott, 33, performed at the Astroworld music festival in Houston, Texas which saw 10 people die after fans surged towards the stage.

The artist has just announced a European tour which includes a date in London scheduled for July 11, alongside the Manchester gig.

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Taylor Pendrith has been here before — holding or sharing a lead after three rounds on the PGA Tour.

The Canadian was one of six among the top 10 on the leaderboard seeking a first tour victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Pendrith chipped in twice for consecutive eagles to kick-start an 8-under 63 on Saturday for a one-shot lead over second-round leader Jake Knapp .

“I have no idea,” Pendrith said when asked if he’d ever had back-to-back eagles, which came on the par-5 fifth and par-4 sixth holes as he finished at 19-under 194. “I don’t think so. Maybe a first.”

It was the third time on the PGA Tour this season, and vaulted him ahead of Knapp. Pendrith’s lead was two before Knapp birdied the par-5 18th for a 67.

Ben Kohles (65) and first-round leader Matt Wallace (67) were two shots off the lead, one stroke ahead of Alex Noren and Kelly Kraft, playing near his Dallas home at the TPC Craig Ranch in the suburb of McKinney.

Troy Merritt, the only two-time PGA Tour winner among the top 10, shot 70 and was at 14 under with three others, including one-time winner Kevin Tway. The son of 1986 PGA Championship winner Bob Tway shot 64, while Vince Whaley and Byeong Hun An each shot 66.

Wallace and Knapp, a rookie won won the Mexico Open in February, are the others with PGA Tour victories.

Pendrith settled for second from the top of the third-round leaderboard at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2022. He was in the same position at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship earlier that season before a 76 left him in a tie for fifth.

“I think just stay patient and play my own game and don’t get ahead of myself,” Pendrith said. “Make as many birdies as you can, because I think it’ll take a low one tomorrow.”

Pendrith was working on a low one after a 26-foot chip shot rolled around the hole and went in, then a 41-yarder bounced about 25 feet from the hole and rolled in with almost perfect speed.

The 32-year-old who has won twice on the Canadian tour is 7 under on those two holes. They were the first two of five consecutive birdies in the second round.

“Obviously, a bonus for both of those to go in,” Pendrith said. “Two really good shots. First one had a little bit of steam so maybe got a little lucky to drop.”

Knapp was coming off consecutive 64s and had his second bogey-free round with a pair of birdies on each nine.

The 29-year-old Californian who was working as a security guard back home three years ago had to hang on during a rough final round for the win in Mexico. Now he’ll be chasing while still playing in the final group.

“I think I do best when I kind of do leaderboard watch and I see what other guys are doing,” Knapp said. “You see what guys are doing in the morning and you get an idea of maybe how the course is playing.”

Wallace — a 34-year-old Englishman with 10 international victories, including four on the European tour — answered his second bogey of the week on 16 with birdies on the final two holes.

“I don’t know many people around me have won more tournaments around the world than myself,” said Wallace, whose tour victory was in the Dominican Republic last year. “Not that that’s a big brag, but I feel like I know how to get the job done.”

Kohles, who was born in Dallas but moved when he was 10, had a 263-yard second shot to 12 feet and made the eagle putt on the par-5 ninth for a 5-under 31 on the front. He bogeyed the par-4 11th before the last two of his five birdies.

The 34-year-old shot 73 playing in the final group in Puerto Rico in March, finishing fifth. Kohles has three career top-10 finishes.

Kris Kim, a 16-year-old amateur making his PGA Tour debut, nearly had a hole-in-one on the 225-yard fourth hole, the ball rolling within inches of the cup. The son of South Korean-born former LPGA golfer Ji-Hyun Suh shot 70 and was 8 under.

Kim, who is from England and playing on a sponsor exemption from the South Korean company and tournament title sponsor CJ Group, was set to become the youngest to play the final round of a PGA Tour event since Guan Tianlang at the 2014 CIMB Classic. Tianlang was 16 years, eight days old.

At 16 years, seven months, Kim surpassed Jordan Spieth as the youngest player to make the cut at the Nelson. Spieth was two months shy of his 17th birthday when made his first PGA Tour start at his hometown event in 2010, and tied for 16th. Kim was tied for 51st.

Kris Kim, 16, shoots 68 in PGA TOUR debut at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Change Text Size

McKINNEY, Texas – 16-year-old Kris Kim received sound advice before his PGA TOUR debut at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson on Thursday morning.

“At the end of the day, it's just hitting a golf ball around, and then whatever you shoot, whatever you shoot,” Kim’s mom Ji-Hyun Suh, a former LPGA player in the 1990s, told her teenage son.

The accomplishment for the week would be the experience gained for Kim – process over results. But Kim can be proud of the results, too. The English amateur shot a first-round 68 with two chip-ins, beating the field average and setting himself up with a chance to make the cut.

Kim would be the youngest player to make the cut in a PGA TOUR event since Kyle Suppa, 16, made the cut at the 2015 Sony Open in Hawaii.

What’s in Kris Kim’s bag?

“I would say it was pretty good,” Kim said of his 68 at TPC Craig Ranch. “Conditions out there were pretty easy today, especially with the greens having a bit of rain. But, yeah, I would say 3-under I would definitely take.”

Kim opened with a par on the 10th, his first hole of the day, then birdied the 11th, holing a 15-footer. That calmed the nerves, which Kim admitted were “pretty high.” After bogeys on 12 and 15, Kim chipped in for birdie on 16 and birdied the par-5 18th to make the turn in 1-under 34. He offset two bogeys on the inward nine with a pair of birdies, then chipped in again on the par-5 ninth, hooping his pitch from 67 feet away for eagle.

16-year-old Kris Kim eagles final hole to shoot 68 at THE CJ CUP

“I would say short game is my strength, but just got lucky a bit today,” Kim said.

Kim bested Russell 5&4 in a singles match last fall in the 2023 Junior Ryder Cup. While Russell has gained notoriety as the No. 1 junior in the world, Kim’s resume is littered with accomplishments, too.

In 2023, Kim won the Boys’ Amateur Championship, the European Boys’ Individual Championship and the McGregor Trophy. He is the first amateur golfer to be sponsored by CJ Group, which sponsors numerous pro golfers, including Sungjae Im, Si Woo Kim, K.H. Lee and Byeong Hun An. Kim is the first European amateur to sign an NIL contract with Under Armour and the first British amateur to sign an NIL deal with TaylorMade. He went undefeated in the Junior Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, claiming 3.5 points as Europe won the event for the first time since 2006.

Kim could do one better than Russell if he makes the cut this week in a PGA TOUR event. With an abundance of low scores, it will take another round like Thursday’s for Kim to make it a reality.
