After more than 50 years of touring, and consistently selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide, the Eagles have announced that their upcoming "The Long Goodbye" will be the band’s final tour.

During "The Long Goodbye," the Eagles – Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey - will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands. The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

Over the band’s more than 50 years of touring, the Eagles have performed more than 1,000 concerts around the world, accounting for more than 15 million tickets. Eagles’ tours have consistently ranked in the Top 10 of both concert industry publications, Billboard and Pollstar .

In the Fall of 1971, the Eagles formed, pioneered, and personified a uniquely American musical style blending country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop sensibilities, and would go onto become one of the most creatively and commercially successful bands of all time. In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons.

The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six #1 albums, and topped the singles charts five times. They earned six GRAMMY Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their very first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

The band’s Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum. Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and earned two GRAMMY Awards for "New Kid In Town" and "Hotel California."

The Eagles will land in Minnesota on farewell tour with Steely Dan

The Eagles have landed.

The band was part of the signature sound of the 1970s, and it’s launching a farewell tour that stops in Minnesota this fall.

The band’s Long Goodbye Tour marks the end of 52 years of performing, after the Eagles were founded by the late Glenn Frey on guitar and Don Henley on drums. Henley is the only continuous member of the band.

The tour starts Sept. 7 in New York and will be at the Xcel Energy Center Nov. 17.

Steely Dan will join the first round of 13 shows — including Minnesota. The tour will run through 2025, and the band says it may return to some cities depending on demand.

Tickets go on sale July 14 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster .

The Eagles announced “The Long Goodbye” tour after more than 50 years of performing around the world, with a show in St. Paul set for November.

The Eagles will play at the Xcel Energy Center Friday, Nov. 17, 2023. That performance is the band’s final show in the first set of dates announced Thursday morning.

Presale and VIP packages will be available starting Wednesday, July 12 for all announced shows. General on-sale tickets will start on Friday, July 14 at 10 a.m.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. July 14 through Ticketmaster. Neither the promoter nor the venue announced ticket prices. Steely Dan will open.

One of the biggest bands of the ’70s, the Eagles performed what they said would be their final concerts together in 2015. Band member Glenn Frey died the following year, seemingly putting an end to the group.

But in 2017, Don Henley — the sole founding member remaining in the band — hired country star Vince Gill and Frey’s son Deacon to join a new version of the Eagles alongside guitarist Joe Walsh and bassist Timothy B. Schmit. They hit the road for a well-received tour that included a June 2018 stop at Target Field with Jimmy Buffett. The new lineup returned to the metro for a pair of shows at the X in October 2021 .

“Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle,” the band said in a statement . “At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

The Eagles’ statement also made it clear the group will play several shows in each market, depending on demand, and that they expect the tour to stretch into 2025. “The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities,” the band said, suggesting they may end up coming back to the metro at another point beyond November.

Their 1976 compilation “Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975)” stands as the best-selling album in history , with the group’s “Hotel California” perched at No. 3. The Eagles won six Grammy Awards, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

Openers Steely Dan also did big business in the ’70s with a series of jazzy, brainy rock albums.

The two main members, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, called it a day in 1981, but reunited a dozen years later to tour. They went on to release two more albums.

Becker died of cancer in 2017, but Fagen has continued to tour as the sole original member of Steely Dan. Fagen and Becker’s widow are currently in an ongoing legal battle over the band’s royalties.

The "Hotel California" hitmakers have announced the first 13 dates on their Long Goodbye Tour, and the last venue on the initial list is Xcel Energy Center on Nov. 17 with the more rarely seen Steely Dan for openers.

"This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on," the Eagles said in a statement issued Thursday. "We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round."

Tickets for the Friday night concert in St. Paul go on sale Friday, July 14, at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster , with VIP and other presale options beginning Wednesday. Prices have not yet been issued, but fans learned a long time ago the Eagles will take it to the limit in that department.

Originally formed in 1971 in Los Angeles, the Eagles lost co-founder Glenn Frey in 2016 at age 67. As has been the case in the seven years since then, Henley will be accompanied by Frey's son Deacon and Nashville ace Vince Gill on this tour alongside longtime members Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit. They previously played a two-night stand at Xcel Center in 2021 on a COVID-delayed tour celebrating the "Hotel California" album.

Always more a studio band than a live act, Steely Dan last came to Minnesota in 2018 — a year after co-founder Walter Becker's death — on a co-headlining trek with the Doobie Brothers. The outing found bandleader Donald Fagen in unusually good spirits during a well-received Xcel Center set .

There's a good chance an extra night at the St. Paul arena will be added to the tellingly named Long Farewell Tour. Or the Eagles could come back around again later, too — a point alluded to in the band's announcement. Here's their full statement:

The Eagles adding 2nd show in St. Paul on farewell tour

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - The Eagles have added a second show in St. Paul as part of their farewell tour this fall.

The Eagles were set to play the Xcel Energy Center on Friday, November 17 for their Long Goodbye Tour. Now, they will play a second show the following night, Saturday, November 18.

Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday morning at 10 a.m. for the general public. Presale tickets for Friday's show are already available, leaving the venue mostly sold out. The presale for the Saturday show starts Thursday morning. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster .

Though this is the band's final tour, it's possible November won't be the last time they play a show in Minnesota. The band expects to keep the farewell tour going into 2025. A news release states the band will "perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands."

The current formation of The Eagles includes founding member Don Henley, longtime guitarist Joe Walsh and bassist Timothy B. Schmit, with country music legend Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, the son of the late Glenn Frey.

The Eagles amassed a long catalog of hits in the 70s including the classics "Hotel California", "Take It Easy", and "Desperado".

Along with St. Paul, the Eagles also announced additional shows in New York City, Boston, Denver, Indianapolis, and Atlanta.

New Opening Act Announced For Minnesota’s Eagles Farewell Tour Stops

With the two Minnesota dates approaching for The Eagles 'Long Goodbye' farewell tour, a new opening act has been announced to kick off the shows.

If you've been following the news, Steely Dan was initially announced as the opening act for the entire Eagles farewell tour. Due to an undisclosed medical issue, Steely Dan founding member Donald Fagen is dealing with, other acts have been stepping in to fill the role of starting off each show since September 20 - the last show Steely Dan did with The Eagles.

Fagen was briefly in the hospital in October, then spent the remainder of the month recovering from whatever sent him to the hospital. As the calendar flipped to November, it was announced that there were plans for Fagen and the rest of Steely Dan to rejoin the Eagles tour starting in November.

That, unfortunately, never came to be.

With Steely Dan out for another chunk of this tour, the Eagles have been leaning on other acts. Sheryl Crow and Steve Miller Band had played the role of opening act for some of the October dates, pivoting to a different act more recently.

Joining The Eagles now is another legendary act in the classic rock world.

The Doobie Brothers were announced as the new opening act for the earlier November dates in North Carolina, and they've now been extended as the opening act for more of the November shows, including the two in Minnesota on November 17 and 18 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The Doobies just recently wrapped up the Canadian portion of their 50th Anniversary Tour, which also included a stop in Duluth earlier this year when they were stateside.

The Eagles announce farewell tour: 'The time has come for us to close the circle'

The Eagles will embark on their own long road out of Eden this fall for a farewell tour expected to last into 2025.

"We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful," the band said in a statement. "Everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle."

Dubbed The Long Goodbye, the Eagles' final shows will kick off Sept. 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Only the first handful of dates are being announced with Boston (Sept. 11), Denver (Oct. 5), Atlanta (Nov. 2) and St. Paul, Minnesota (Nov. 17) among them.

Presale tickets and VIP packages go on sale July 12; the general on-sale begins 10 a.m. local time July 14.

Also along for the jaunt will be Steely Dan, longtime contemporaries of the band who will commemorate their own five-decade-plus career.

In announcing their plans to end their "52-year odyssey," the Eagles – composed of Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit – noted they will play as many shows in each market as the audience demands, even if it requires returning to certain cities. The band will be joined onstage, as they have since the 2016 death of founding member Glenn Frey, by Vince Gill and Frey's son, Deacon.

Shortly after Frey's death at the age of 67, Henley indicated the Eagles would no longer tour. But following a pair of special classic-rock-focused festivals in 2017 – Classic West and Classic East, organized by their longtime manager Irving Azoff – they resumed regular live performances.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and six-time Grammy winners have played more than 1,000 concerts throughout their 50 years of touring. Their recently wrapped Hotel California Tour – named for their landmark 1976 album, which they played in its entirety with a backing orchestra – grossed about $250 million over 90 shows, according to music industry trade publication Pollstar.

In thanking fans for their years of support, the band concluded, "This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on."

The Doobie Brothers Replacing Steely Dan as Opening Act for Eagles’ Final 2023 Tour Dates

The Eagles will finish off the 2023 leg of their Long Goodbye farewell tour with three shows… November 14, in Lexington, Kentucky, and a November 17-18 stand in St. Paul, Minnesota. However, instead of Steely Dan opening the concerts as originally announced, The Doobie Brothers will be serving as the support act for the dates .

As previously reported, Steely Dan initially had been announced as the opening act for the Eagles’ entire Long Goodbye Tour, but because of unspecified health issues that frontman Donald Fagen has been experiencing, the Dan hasn’t played any of the last nine shows on the trek.

A series of fill-in acts has been supporting the Eagles on their dates since Steely Dan’s last appearance, on September 20, with The Doobie Brothers initially signing on last week to open the Eagles’ shows on November 7 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and November 9 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Late last week, it was announced that The Doobies also would support the Eagles at the Lexington concert, and now the veteran rockers have confirmed that they’ll be performing at the St. Paul gigs as well.

Prior to The Doobie Brothers’ stint as fill-in opener, Sheryl Crow, Steve Miller Band, Eagles touring member Vince Gill, and Tedeschi Trucks Band all stepped in for Steely Dan as the support act at various shows.

The Eagles are scheduled to launch a 2024 leg of their Long Goodbye Tour on January 5 in Inglewood, California. Next year’s trek currently features 21 dates, and as of now, Steely Dan is still slated to open the shows.

Shortly before joining the Eagles tour, The Doobie Brothers wrapped up a 2023 Canadian leg of their 50th anniversary headlining trek with an October 28 concert in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Since May, the band has been performing without its co-founding singer/guitarist Tom Johnston , who is recovering from back surgery.

Sum 41 goes out on top at sold-out Milwaukee stop of farewell tour at the Rave

Is anyone actually buying the “farewell” that Sum 41 is selling?

OK, sure, a lot of people are literally buying it. The Canadian pop-punk veterans’ “Tour of the Setting Sum” farewell run came to the Rave’s Eagles Ballroom Saturday for one of the first stops, and the 3,500-person capacity venue was a sellout.

But let’s do the math. No one in Sum 41 is over 50. The Mötley Crüe guys are headlining Summerfest this June after bringing a “farewell tour” to the Big Gig a decade ago, and an 81-year-old Barry Manilow will play a final Milwaukee show at Fiserv Forum in August nine years after he seemingly played a final Milwaukee show.

It's hard to accept that Sum 41 is really leaving all of this behind, especially right now. Pop-punk is fueling a new generation of rising stars. Blink-182's classic lineup is back (and playing Fiserv Forum August 7), Green Day is headlining stadiums (including American Family Field Aug. 24), and Milwaukee will host not one but two Warped Tour-style festivals this summer: Sad Summer Festival at the Rave, and the Not Just a Phase Fest at Franklin Field.

But if the Eagles Ballroom show was really Milwaukee's last chance to see Sum 41, they showed they're going out at the top of their game.

This amped-up capacity crowd hardly needed any motivation, but Sum 41 kicked off their hour-and-45-minute set with "Motivation" anyway, the first song off first album "All Killer No Filler" from 2001, with wired frontman Deryck Whibley cruising the stage while lasers and lighting worked overtime. In a delightful detour from the recording, guitarists Dave Baksh and Tom Thacker, drummer Frank Zummo and bassist Jason McCaslin offered a dense and tense instrumental thrash break, the band's distinctive, metal-flexing tendencies later getting a full workout for 2004's "We're All To Blame."

From "Motivation" Sum 41 segued into "The Hell Song" from 2002 sophomore album "Does This Look Infected?," with Whibley heating up the crowd with a breathless, 15-second vocal note, followed by Baksh's gnarly guitar solo, adding gas to the flames. The momentum continued with another "Infected" track, "Over My Head (Better Off Dead)" — the crowdsurfing and circle pits intensifying as smoke and confetti were added to the effects arsenal — followed by 2004's "No Reason," where Zummo really let his drum assaults rip.

The 2007 anthem "Underclass Hero" came right after, with oversized balloons bouncing atop jumping bodies in the pit — and Whibley popping a few with the tail end of his handheld mic. The band's cacophonous sound silenced so the fans could triumphantly belt out the final chorus alone: "'Cause we won't give you control/And we don't need anything from you."

During "Hero" Whibley rightly suggested this night wasn't just a celebration of Sum 41's nearly 30-year run but also "a celebration of yourselves." The crowd's passion matched the band's Saturday and was more powerful than all of the production's bells and whistles.

When the band started 2007's "Walking Disaster," the lights on the phones were so bright, the stage lights stayed off and the band was still fully illuminated. Even after Whibley suggested everyone needed to take a breather after an intense first 23 minutes, followed by the comparatively slower 2004 song "Some Say," some fans still couldn't resist moshing before the end. And "Dopamine," "Landmines" and "Rise Up" from the four-week-old "Heaven :x: Hell" album received boisterous singalongs typically reserved for longtime setlist standards. (It helps that those tracks are as invigorating as anything from across Sum 41's catalogue.)

When the most prized setlist standards did actually come near the end — "Fat Lip" accompanied by a storm of confetti, an equally electric "Still Waiting" initially sans any fancy stage enhancements — the crowd really went wild. Their biggest hit "In Too Deep" was a deeply satisfying finale — except it turned out it really wasn't the end.

Two minutes after the house lights came on, the outro music played on the speakers and about half of the crowd had left, Whibley and Thacker came back on stage — prompting fans at the staircases to sprint back to the ballroom floor. And as Thacker gently played keys, Whibley offered a sweet and calm farewell in the form of 2007's "So Long Goodbye" — with Baksh, McCaslin and Zummo coming out after a few minutes to give the song an adrenaline-pumping speed punk finish.

It was probably the best moment from a night full of memorable ones. But there was one moment fans definitely didn’t like: when Whibley referred to “Heaven :x: Hell” as the band’s final album, prompting a roar of booing.

“Ladies and gentlemen," Whibley replied cooly, "I can’t get enough of your boos."

Call it denial if you want, but a comment like that, combined with a show like this one, makes me firmly believe that Sum 41's "farewell" isn't going to stick. And the fans, clearly, would be just fine with that.

• As people walked into the show they were given yellow pieces of paper that read “No Moshing.” Naturally this crowd didn’t comply, especially with Whibley demanding a mosh circle open up just two songs into the set. But shortly after that he also told people to be safe and look after each other, and by the look of things from the balcony, the crowd complied in that regard.
• At one point Whibley said he was bringing out a special guest, which turned out to be a guitar he's named "White Gold." It's a guitar that recently joined his collection, but it was actually used in the recording of one of his favorite albums by one of his favorite bands, 1996's "White Light, White Heat, White Trash" by Social Distortion. In their honor, Whibley played White Gold for a cover of "Ring of Fire" in the mode of Social Distortion's signature cover. (Social Distortion, by the way, is heading to the Rave's Eagles Ballroom with Bad Religion on May 14.)
• Sum 41 offered one other cover Saturday, of Queen's "We Will Rock You," initially distinguished by Thacker's speedy showboating on guitar — until Whibley guided the crowd to get quiet and crouch down before the climax, with the band's sound and fans (literally) rising up together for a mosh-friendly finale.
• Primary opener the Interrupters were essentially motivational speakers set to ska music, with the always-moving Aimee Allen, with a Joan Jett-style snarl, singing about not being pushed aside for “Take Back The Power,” living “like a warrior” on “Title Holder,” and being “easy on yourself” for “Easy on You.” She even offered gratitude for her heartbreak on “Afterthought.” The energy and uplift easily won over the Sum 41 fans, but just to make sure they had their full support, the Interrupters also offered a trombone-blaring cover of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” and a bit of “Blister in the Sun” in honor of Milwaukee rock heroes the Violent Femmes.
• Joey Valence & Brae kicked off the night with a blast from the past, with originals like “Crank It Up,” “Drop!!” and “Punk Tactics” that are blatant rip-offs of Beastie Boys, but still pretty fun live. And the duo’s more hyperpop-leaning “Gumdrop” illustrated where they could take their act next.
