4 Days In El Nido, Palawan: The Ultimate Adventure

August is part of the Philippines rainy season. But if you’re adventurous, it’s also the perfect time to visit the country’s pristine beaches. Less crowds, more time to soak in the sights. Check out our adventure.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

August is not a common month for vacations in the Philippines. It’s the rainy season and prone to cancellations, delays, and bad weather.

But with the country experiencing sunny days year-round, it’s also the best time to visit pristine beaches minus the crowds.

So, we decided to take the risk. We booked a trip to El Nido Philippines in the middle of August.

Photo of gloomy skies at sea

From sunny to dull, the weather can change drastically at sea. Photo taken during our Aug 2017 El Nido trip.

And despite the typhoon that ravaged the country in July, we were blessed with sunny and beautiful weather.

Beautiful sunny weather in El Nido (be careful, you can get sunburned!)

Read about our itinerary, what to expect, and how much to prepare.

Getting to El Nido

El Nido is located in the North-Western Part of Palawan and is a 1 and ½ hour flight from Metro Manila if you are taking a direct flight to Lio Airport.

However, those flights are expensive. So to save some money, we opted for a promo flight through Cebu Pacific from NAIA 3 to Puerto Princesa International Airport. This is a 1 hour and 15 minutes flight.

To reach El Nido, you must board a van and endure five to six hours of land travel through winding roads – but mostly beautiful countryside views.

You can choose from private or shared van transfers. Private vans cost around 6,000 one way. Shared vans cost about 600 per person but are available for a fixed time only. Your hotel accommodation can help book these vans.

Our plane arrived at Puerto Princesa around 7 pm. Based on prior research, we knew that public vans are available only until 5 pm so we had the hotel arrange the van pickup for us.

However, since there are a lot of late-night flights to Puerto Princesa, there are still private vans waiting for their passengers to El Nido up until the last flight arrives. If you’re traveling solo, you can opt to share a ride with these vans.

I recommend working with your accommodation as they can give you the best deals on van transfers and give you peace of mind that you’re going directly to your hotel.

Vans have a halfway stopover, around 3 hours after you leave your pick-up point. This is the spot where you can eat lunch or dinner. This is also the only stopover for CR breaks.

Where to Stay in El Nido

There are many accommodation options around El Nido. You can choose from beachfront resorts, pension houses, hostels, and luxurious staycations.

To choose the best accommodation, determine your activities and priorities.

For our group, we opted for the cheapest hotel we can find in El Nido proper since our main activities were island hopping tours.

This allowed us to save on our accommodation (so we can splurge on a 4-star staycation at the end of the trip).

Choosing a hotel in El Nido proper also allowed us to walk towards the port for our island-hopping boat, and explore the town proper at night.

Read about my honest review of our hotel, Cliffside Resort here. You can also check out their rates via Agoda.

For our last day, we wanted to splurge and relax. It was a tiring but fun two days of island hopping and we wanted a day to recoup our energy before heading back.

We opted to stay in Isla Amara and enjoy the beauty of Lio Beach.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

Isla Amara Boutique Resort at Lio, El Nido

When traveling, always take advantage of booking sites like Agoda. We found a really nice deal for Isla Amara on their site. You can read my honest review of Isla Amara here.

When we visited El Nido in 2017, we were a group of 12 and decided it’d be better to stay at an Airbnb Villa. We booked El Nido Full House Villa which was in the middle of El Nido proper and Corong-Corong beach.

Getting Around El Nido

The main transportation around El Nido is tricycles. They are huge and spacious and can comfortably seat four average-sized persons inside plus one more person behind the driver.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

El Nido Tricycles, circa 2017

From El Nido Proper to Vanilla Beach, the fare is 150 per tricycle. El Nido Proper to Lio Beach is P300 per tricycle.

Tricycle drivers are also knowledgeable about places to go and will gladly offer their services to bring you to other land-based attractions like falls and beaches.

Another recommended way to explore El Nido is by renting a motorcycle. You need your driving license and knowledge of road safety rules though.

Motorcycle rentals start at P500 per day. There are plenty of motorcycle rental shops around El Nido proper.

If you’re a big group, you can also get a car rental. Most shops that offer motorcycle rentals also have car rentals. Just ask for the rates.

Take note that gas prices in El Nido are +10-20Php from the usual prices in Metro Manila. And with locations far from each other, you can find yourself paying more for gas than you intended to.

I’d say, it’s still best to rent a tricycle, especially with the good weather on the island.

What to Do in El Nido

El Nido is a paradise. You can spend your days hopping from one activity to another. Or you can opt to lounge by the beach or the resort’s infinity pool and just soak in the views.

Either way, you will definitely enjoy your stay.

With that said, here are the most common activities around El Nido:

  • Island hopping – choose from 4 preset tours or book a private tour
  • Beach hopping – explore 3 white sand beaches through land travel (Los Cabanas Beach, Nacpan Beach, Lio Beach)
  • Trekking and Canopy Walk to reach Taraw’s peak
  • Visit several waterfalls – sometimes combined with beach hopping
  • Exploring the Nightlife

Island Hopping in El Nido

There are 45 islands in El Nido and they’ve organized 4 tours – Tour A, B, C and D to help you explore some of these islands.

Tour A – Lagoon Tours (Most Popular Tour)

Cost: P1,200 per pax

Tour A is the most popular tour because of the big lagoon. A lot of people who post photos and videos of their El Nido tour took the footage from Tour A.

Places to visit:

7 Commandos Beach

Shimizu Island

Payong-Payong Beach

Secret Lagoon

This beach is still connected to the main Palawan Island but is accessible only by boat. It’s one of the many smaller beaches along the coast of El Nido offering white sands and turquoise waters.

It’s the first stop for all Tour A tours, so expect lots of boats and tourists stopping to pose for photos and swim. There are many other better and less crowded beaches during the tour, so if you can, ask the tour guide not to stay too long at this stop.

Snorkeling Area

In between islands, your tour guide will bring you to spots in the ocean where you can snorkel. There are lots of snorkeling areas within El Nido so this is one of the must-do activities.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

Snorkeling in El Nido, circa 2017

Admittedly, there are better snorkeling spots in the country, and most of the spots we went to had very few fish or live corals. It’s a pity really. But if this is your first time snorkeling, or you simply like the experience, then you’d enjoy the really clear waters.

Tip: You can rent snorkeling gear from your hotel or vendors by the seashore for P100 per day. However, if you’re island hopping for several days, it’d be more economical to purchase a snorkeling set.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

For Tour A, this is your lunch area. It’s another nice beach with white sand and clear water. Your tour guide will prepare the lunch area here.

In the past, the boatmen also doubled as chefs and will prepare a buffet lunch consisting of grilled seafood and meat, freshly prepared vegetables, and exquisitely carved fruits.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

Photo at Shimizu Island

Sadly, as of July 2023, El Nido released an ordinance prohibiting meal preparation at the islands or on boats by tour operators. You can only get packed lunch from accredited restaurants which will be served during your tour.

In our case, our tour operator – Cliffside Travel and Tours, partnered with Sagwan Resto to provide us with set lunches. Here are their menu choices:

Lunch options

Our tour group with our packed lunch

I’ve been to El Nido in 2017 and the packed lunch are a far cry from the experience of a buffet lunch by the island. I’m not sure if they allow private tours to still prepare their own meals on board. You can ask your tour operator.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

Our buffet lunch during our 2017 El Nido Trip . On some days, there were crabs and mussels too. All freshly prepared.

We saw another boat that had a buffet lunch in their boat. They looked like one big family so maybe, the buffet meals are allowed only if you are one big group and not a joiner tour.

The beach’s name comes from the limestone formations that looked like umbrellas. It’s not the most impressive white sand beach in El Nido, but you can still enjoy your time swimming and taking photos here.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

Chilling at Payong-Payong Beach

According to the published Tour set, this was one of the stops. For some reason, our guide didn’t bring us here. I think he was helping us avoid the crowds and the overrated spots.

Based on Google Reviews , the place may be a hit or miss depending on what you like to do. The lagoon itself requires that you climb through a small rock which can be difficult if the waves are strong.

Inside, there’s no dry area. You are only standing in shallow waters surrounded by limestones. It’s also pretty small so it can get crowded when there are too many tourists.

The nearby beach is beautiful though.

This is the highlight of Tour A. Most of El Nido’s popular photos and videos come from the kayaking experience in this area.

Fortunately, this was our last stop and when we arrived, there were only a few groups.

We almost had the entire lagoon to ourselves.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

Kayaking at Big Lagoon

Renting a kayak is P350 for the big one (seats 3 people) and P300 for the small one (seats 2 people).

You can also rent a crystal kayak but our boatman discouraged it. He said that it’s easier to use the plastic kayaks as floaters in case it capsizes. But the risks are low, so if you’d like to use these popular kayaks, they’d cost P500 good for 2 people.

You’d row from the open sea towards the entrance of the lagoon which is a long stretch of shallow water. I recommend walking and pulling the kayak during this part if you want to save your strength for the bigger and deeper lagoon later on.

You can also take lots of beautiful photos here.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

My friend posing at Big Lagoon

After this entrance, you can navigate to the deep side of the lagoon. It’s a wide lagoon of deep green waters surrounded by tall karst limestones. Because there were few other kayaks, we had fun racing with each other and exploring every nook and cranny of the lagoon.

Taking a photo in the middle of the Big Lagoon

During peak season, the Big Lagoon will be full of guests and according to one local, you’d have to wait for your turn to rent a kayak. Even during August, you’d still see a lot of tourists in this area.

Last 2017, our guide brought us to the nearby Small Lagoon (part of Tour D) since there were too many tourists at the Big Lagoon. It was equally breathtaking.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

The Small Lagoon, circa 2017.

Once headed back to the boat, our tour guide offered to tie all the kayaks together and pull them towards the boat. This was a welcome treat because you can just lie down and not worry about paddling against the waves.

Our friends decided to paddle back and had to battle against strong waves. They made it back to the boat though after several tries.

Tour C – White Beach Tours (second popular tour)

Cost: 1,400 per pax

Another popular tour is Tour C, which mostly consists of white sand beaches. Although, our tour guide switched the places a bit and inserted Cadlao Lagoon (normally part of tour D) since we weren’t able to visit the Secret Beach.

Also, instead of Matinloc Shrine, he gave us extra time to snorkel in another snorkeling spot. In some tours, they don’t have a stop at Matinloc Shrine. Instead, they’d let you stop at Star Beach.

All of these stops are near each other (except for Helicopter Island).

Places to Visit:

Hidden Beach

Helicopter Island

Secret Beach

  • Matinloc Shrine / Star Beach

Talisay Beach

This was the first stop of our tour. According to our tour guide, we will do the tour in reverse to avoid the crowds and had to start with the furthest points. The boat ride took over 45 minutes.

Once we arrived at the beach, we saw a monitor lizard excavating a hole. The tour guide shouted at the lizard and shooed it away. He said the lizard was going to eat the eggs of a sea turtle and pointed out the trail marks of a turtle.

Our guide hurried to the site and before he can reach it, two smaller monitor lizards emerged and scrambled off. He dug the hole and after several minutes, reached a nest of sea turtle eggs.

Sea turtles are protected animals in El Nido and they take great efforts to preserve them. Unfortunately, monitor lizards tend to scavenge their eggs so our guide ensured the eggs were securely covered deep in the ground to prevent another attack.

From this incident, we explored the hidden beach and marveled at the beauty of the limestone formations surrounding the beach. The only reason this beach is hidden is because you’d have to walk across shallow but rocky waters to reach it. Your boat will park on the other side.

Hidden beach. The beach is on the other side of the limestone formation.

Obscured by towering limestones, Hidden Beach produces beautiful photos that you’d cherish for a lifetime. You can also swim in the crystal waters and like any other spot in El Nido, snorkel to see the marine life.

Matinloc Shrine / Star Beach / Snorkeling Spot

According to our tour coordinator, we were supposed to prepare P200 as entrance fee to Matinloc Shrine. But after reading this Google Review , I wasn’t too keen on visiting the place.

Of course, if you opt not to climb, you can do snorkeling for the allotted time instead. Coincidentally, this spot is also near Star Beach, which is a private beach but has great snorkeling spots.

Since we were doing the tours in reverse, this will be our 2nd stop. Normally, this is the final stop for tours.

Our guide opted to give all of us a snorkeling spot and didn’t bother asking us if we wanted to visit Matinloc Shrine. I guess he overheard me telling the others about what to expect there.

When I visited El Nido last August 2017, this was the highlight of my trip. It’s a secret beach area surrounded by tall limestone formations. It’s so pristine inside that you’d feel transported to a different location.

The catch is: you have to swim through a small hole to access the secret beach.  You have to jump from your boat to deep waters, then swim until you’re able to enter the hole and the shallow waters of the beach inside.

When we visited in 2017, the waves were rough and although I was scared, I jumped and swam. The beauty inside was worth it.

Unfortunately, this experience is not without its risks. You can bump your head or scratch your knees on the rocks as the waves pummel you inside.

And true enough, there have been too many accidents especially when waves are rough that guides have stopped bringing guests to this beach if they perceive that the risks are great (and perhaps if the tourists are not great swimmers).

This was our third stop where we had lunch. Talisay Beach has its own charm and is just as beautiful as the other beaches of El Nido.

You can take your time swimming in the waves and be inspired by the towering lush vegetation. You can even see monkeys in the trees if you look closely enough.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

If there’s a beach where you should spend more time swimming, lying in the sand and snorkeling, then this is the beach to go to.

It doesn’t have the same impressive limestone formations as the other beaches, but it has a long stretch of powdery white sand and turquoise blue waters. There are enough shaded areas where you can put a beach mat and lie down.

There’s also enough shallow beach area to swim around. Venture a bit further and there are shallow areas to snorkel and see fishes.

We were sorry to go when the guide called us back. If there’s another chance to go to El Nido, we’d want to stay longer on this island.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

Helicopter Island ( Source )

It’s called Helicopter Island because of the shape, but kids see a chicken drumstick as they look at the island.

  • Cadlao Lagoon

This is the additional item in Tour C. Originally, Cadlao Lagoon is part of Tour D. However because we didn’t see Secret Beach, our guide brought us here instead. It’s also relatively near Helicopter Island.

Cadlao Lagoon is also called Blue Lagoon because of the clear blue waters. It’s a smaller lagoon than Big Lagoon and that gives you enough time to take photos, explore, and have fun with your friends.

We took lots of photos in this place and had ample time to admire the majestic karst limestone enveloping the entire lagoon.

Cadlao Lagoon is part of Tour D, which is a tour featuring islets in El Nido but I’m glad our tour guide brought us here. It was our last stop, and just like the previous day, there weren’t a lot of tourists in the area.

Other Island Hopping Tours in El Nido

Tour A and C are the most popular and recommended tours in El Nido. But that doesn’t mean that other tours are not worth your money.

Tour B – Sandbar Tour Cost: P1,300 per pax

During our 2017 trip, we also took Tour B and had the pleasure to see Snake Island. The place doesn’t have snakes, but it has a snake-like sandbar that you can see after a short hike to an overlooking hill.

Other places to visit are:

  • Pinagbuyatan Island
  • Entalula Island
  • Cathedral Cave
  • Cudugnon Cave

Tour D – Islet Tours Cost: P1,200 per pax

This is the only tour I haven’t done in El Nido. But after seeing Cadlao Lagoon, I believe this is also a must-do tour. Besides, this is not as popular as the other tours so expect that there’d be fewer tourists on the beaches you’d visit.  Inclusions:

  • Small Lagoon
  • Paradise Beach
  • Bukal Beach
  • Pasandigan Beach

Tour Notes:

  • All tour prices are inclusive of P200 environmental fee. The environmental fee is good for one week so if you’re doing the tours within the same week, they’d waive the environmental fee on the other tours.
  • Depending on your tour operator, set lunch may be included in the package. In the past, buffet lunch was always included but now, there are some tour operators who will charge the same price but not include lunch.
  • Kayak rentals are charged separately. You’d pay them at the lagoon areas. Be ready with exact cash.
  • Tours start at 9AM and end at 4PM.

Our tour operator for this tour was Cliffside Travel and Tours . For 2017, our tour operator was Northern Hope Tours . Both provided great service and are highly recommended!

Budget (Per Person):

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

  • Budget hotels in El Nido range from 1,200 to 1,800 inclusive of breakfast. These are AC rooms. Cliffside Cottages offers fan rooms for 700Php per night, good for 2 persons. Read my review here.
  • Food in El Nido is expensive. Average meal prices range from 250 to 300 depending on the restaurant. Our dinner budget also included drinks.
  • We also had to buy bottled water because friends have advised us that there’s a current bad water situation at El Nido and you need to secure yourself by drinking only bottled water.

Some Tipid Tips:

  • If you’re a large group, you can book an Airbnb and cook your own meals. El Nido has a Wet Market with affordable fresh seafood so you can prepare your own dinner and breakfast. During our 2017 trip, we stayed at Full House Villa and bought fresh seafood from El Nido’s Pamilihang Bayan.

Wrapping Up

When my friend first offered a seat sale to El Nido, I was skeptical. I have been there and wasn’t keen on repeating the experience.

But since hubby hasn’t been to El Nido, I decided to give it another shot.  I’m glad I did.

El Nido is a paradise – before and now. I realized that even though I went to the same beaches twice, the experience was still amazing and left me awestruck.

I’d be dreaming of El Nido and asking when I can return once again.

[2023 TIPS] El Nido Itinerary – 5 Day Guide

If you are wondering how many days in El Nido is enough to enjoy one of the most beautiful islands in the world, our El Nido 5 day itinerary below will answer that question!

I think we can agree that discovering secret beaches, exploring stunning lagoons, and stepping foot on some of the world’s most stunning islands should be at the top of your itinerary when planning a trip to El Nido.

Admittedly, it can be quite challenging to organize all of your things to do in El Nido when you have limited time on the island. So we understand the question of how long to stay in El Nido when planning your trip!

In this article, we will go over some of the not-to-miss El Nido activities and arrange them over five days to ensure you get the most out of your trip to El Nido in our El Nido 5 days 4 nights itinerary!

Ready to plan your El Nido itinerary ? Let’s get started!

Table of Contents

How Many Days Should You Spend in El Nido?

When planning your El Nido itinerary , knowing how many days you plan to stay is important. I’ll give you a breakdown of what your experience in El Nido would likely look like within the following amount of days:

el nido 5 days 4 nights

3 Days in El Nido

If you only have 3 days to spare to spend in El Nido, you will have enough time to experience a couple of the island hopping tours. Although 3 days in El Nido is short, you will still get to experience and see this famous Palawan island.

Planning a trip to El Nido should include at least one Island Hopping Tour in your itinerary. I highly recommend taking Tours A and C, each offering spectacular lagoons and beaches. Tour A includes lagoons and beaches while Tour C features Hidden Beaches and a Shrine. It is essential that you take at least one of these tours for an unforgettable experience.

Another must-see location is Nacpan Beach. The views from Nacpan Beach are stunning and the adventure-filled ride out and back, with a possible waterfall hike, is an amazing experience.

5 Days in El Nido

5 days in El Nido is enough for you to explore all of the island hopping tours and even have day trips to popular destinations like Nacpan Beach and Las Cabanas. For me, 5 days in El Nido is an ideal time to spend on the island.

If you are planning a 5-day El Nido itinerary, you should definitely book another island hopping tour. There are so many things to explore in El Nido that it would be a shame to come all this way and stay for only a few days. Spend an additional day beach bumming or simply exploring the area. I spent a week in El Nido and had a great time. If you have even more time, you can also explore the islands around Coron.

7 Days and More in El Nido

Spending seven days in El Nido is a great way to explore the area and its many activities. Island hopping tours are a must-do, but there are also plenty of other experiences to enjoy such as inland day hikes, swimming in waterfalls, beach hopping, and more. For those feeling adventurous, beach camping, kayaking, discovering coves on a bike, and surfing are all available.

We have been to El Nido three times and still haven’t managed to do everything. Our favorite activities include bike rides, kayaking, and snorkeling on the tours. For those short on time, a minimum of four days is recommended. Anything shorter leaves you wanting more. On our first visit, we only had three days, which was enough to see some highlights but not enough to really experience the best of El Nido.

Checklist of Things to Do in El Nido:

Before we organize our itinerary, we first need to write down all of our El Nido things to do so that we don’t miss anything.

Below are the must-see and must-do while in El Nido

1. Island Hopping Tour A 2. Island Hopping Tour B 3. Island Hopping Tour C 4. Island Hopping Tour D 5. Spend a Day at Nacpan Beach 6. Go to Le Bar and watch the sunset at Corong-Corong 7. Head to Las Cabanas for sunset and drinks 8. Get a massage  9. Eat at La Trattoria Altrove 10. Have seafood for dinner! 11. Walk around El Nido town 12. Go workout!

El Nido Itinerary – Day 1:

El Nido Itinerary day 1

El Nido Day 1: Morning Itinerary

7 am to 11 am – Day of arrival. Many of the flights that come from Manila usually arrive in the morning. However, if you are taking a shuttle from Puerto Princessa or the speed boat from Coron, you will arrive mid to late afternoon. Use much of your morning or early afternoon to settle and rest because the next few days can get quite busy!

Noon – If you make it to El Nido before noon, take the time to walk around and familiarize yourself with where to eat in the main town or the area you are staying in.

El Nido Day 1: Afternoon Itinerary

2 pm to 4 pm – Take the time and explore El Nido town. Although El Nido town proper is not the most photogenic island town that you’ll see, there is still a sense of charm and island feel walking around town. I remember my first visit to El Nido in 2013; there was hardly anything in the town proper. I remember the two ATMs (where it was mostly out of cash, and you can only pay cash while on the island), and a few restaurants here and there. Today, the island is a lot more developed, although still not on the same level as Boracay.

5 pm  – Go back to the hotel and freshen up

5:45 pm  – Head to Le Bar for a drink and experience the legendary sunset of El Nido!

El Nido Day 1: Evening Itinerary

7:30 pm – Go to the main town, pick a restaurant along the beach, and try fresh seafood! Most restaurants, along with the beach grill seafood, pick the best selection for that day.

Post Dinner  – Check out some of the bars in El Nido town and have a drink or two!

El Nido Itinerary – Day 2:

El Nido Itinerary day 2

El Nido Day 2: Morning Itinerary

730 am –  Wake up call! Have breakfast, and prepare for the day.

9 am –     The first thing on your to-do list on your first full day in El Nido is island hopping the famous islands. As mentioned above, you can pick four island hopping tours – creatively named Tour A, Tour B, Tour C, and Tour D. Out of the four island hopping tours, Tour A and Tour C are the most popular.

You can pick whatever tour for this day, but let’s just say you choose Tour A for your first island hopping tour. Here’s what you explore with Tour A in El Nido.

Tour A explores El Nido’s most iconic sites. In this tour, you will see the Big Lagoon, Small Lagoon, Shimizu Island, Seven Commandos Beach, and Miniloc Island. My favorite part of the island hopping tours is when the tour guides prepare our lunch on some remote island! The lunch is typically grilled meat and fresh seafood with vegetables and fruits!

I particularly like Tour A (although it can get quite crowded) because it combines Lagoon exploring and relaxing at the beach.

El Nido Day 2: Afternoon Itinerary

430 pm  – The Island hopping tour ends, and you should be back on the town proper by this time.

545 pm  – After you get back to your hotel and freshen up, it is time to head out to Las Cabanas and watch the sunset. The tricycle ride to Las Cabanas is roughly 25 minutes, so I recommend leaving El Nido town early to ensure you get the right spot on one of the bars on Las Cabanas to watch the sunset.

El Nido Day 2: Evening Itinerary

7 pm  – Dinner time! I recommend trying Trattoria Altrove, a famous pizza place in El Nido that usually has a long line during peak dinner time hours.

Post Dinner – Perhaps a drink at one of the bars on the main island.

El Nido Itinerary – Day 3:

El Nido Itinerary nacpan beach

El Nido Day 3: Morning Itinerary

730 am –  Wak up call! Rise and shine and have your breakfast.

9 am  – For today’s itinerary, we will take a break from island hopping a spend the day in Nacpan beach. We are going to rent a scooter for the day, and you can ask your hotel to organize a rental scooter for you. The cost of the scooter is about 350 to 400 Pesos for the day.

Alternatively, you can also take a tricycle to Nacpan Beach if you don’t feel safe riding a scooter. There are also private shuttles that go on a scheduled service from El Nido town to Nacpan Beach.

The total travel time with a scooter and tricycle to Nacpan beach is about 40 minutes, while a van takes about 25 minutes.

9:45  – Leave El Nido town for Nacpan Beach

10:30 am –  Arrive at Nacpan Beach.

Since my several visits to El Nido since 2013, I make it a point always to reserve a day to hang out at this beach. I love coming here because it’s peaceful and able to enjoy the stunning white sand beach and the warm, aquamarine waters without much of a crowd.

It’s very easy to spend a whole day here. Nacpan Beach has a couple of restaurants on site where you can order lunch, snacks, and even fresh fruit shakes on the beach. There are also lounge chairs with an umbrella you can rent and little private huts if you have a big group of people.

Nacpan Beach is one of the most beautiful stretches of sand you’ll experience in the Philippines – and that says a lot considering the number of beautiful beaches there are in the Philippines.

Nacpan Beach is everything you’d imagine a paradise to be. The soft cream-colored sand, stretching four kilometers long, with the backdrop of the aquamarine waters with a few crashing waves and swaying coconut palm trees dotting the whole island. It’s perfection

El Nido Day 3: Afternoon Itinerary

4:00 pm  – Leave Nacpan Beach.

Since it takes roughly 45 minutes by scooter from Nacpan Beach to El Nido town, I recommend leaving Nacpan Beach no later than 4:30 pm so that you have enough time to get back to your hotel, freshen up, and get ready to watch the sunset at either Las Cabanas or Corong-Corong with a drink in hand.

5:45 pm  – Leave the hotel and watch the sunset at Le Bar at Corong Corong beach or Las Cabanas. By this time, it should feel like a tradition heading to either two of these places to enjoy El Nido’s legendary sunsets.

If you want to skip watching the sunset, I recommend getting a one-hour massage in El Nido town as an alternative. Traveling to these islands and pampering myself with hour-long massages for a low price is one thing I look forward to when traveling to El Nido!

El Nido Day 3: Evening Itinerary

7 pm  –   Dinner time! I suggest taking a walk around El Nido town and seeing which restaurants you are in the mood for!

El Nido Itinerary – Day 4

El Nido Itinerary corong-corong

El Nido Day 4: Morning Itinerary

7:30 am –  Rise and shine! Do your morning routine and get ready to start the day!

9:00 am  – For today, we are going to do a second island hopping tour. Since we already signed up for Tour A for our first tour, we have Tour B, Tour C, and Tour D as our options for today.

Tour C is another popular island hopping tour in El Nido, where you get to explore some iconic beaches and hidden coves. If you choose Tour C, this is the itinerary:

Tour C explores some of the most stunning beaches in El Nido. In this tour, you spend ample time exploring some of these hidden beaches, where you also get to snorkel and explore some of the aquamarine life on the surrounding islands. Highlights include Helicopter Island, Secret Beach, Star Beach, and Hidden Beach.

A delicious lunch prepared by your guides is included in this tour.

El Nido Day 4: Afternoon Itinerary

3 to 4 pm  – By mid to late afternoon, you should be back in El Nido town. Use this time to relax for a bit, have a nap, or just have downtime.

5:30 pm –  Time to have drinks and watch the El Nido sunset at your preferred bar. Another alternative is to use this time and get a massage in El Nido town.

El Nido Day 4: Evening Itinerary

7 pm onwards  – Dinner and drinks to end the night!

El Nido Itinerary – Day 5

El Nido Itinerary main town

El Nido Day 5: Morning Itinerary

730 am  – Rise and shine!

9 am onwards –   Before checking out of your hotel, I recommend using this time to have breakfast and perhaps walk around the nearest beach. Perhaps take another time to walk around El Nido town and buy some souvenirs.

11 am  – Depart El Nido

Where to Stay In El Nido

El Nido, a small town in the Philippines, is made up of four barangays: Buena Suerte, Corong-Corong, Maligaya, and Masagana. These barangays occupy two small peninsulas that jut out into Bacuit Bay. The settlement parallel to the beach in Brgy. Buena Suerte is what most people refer to as the “Town Proper”. Nearby is Brgy. Masagana, home to several resorts and Calaan Beach. Corong-Corong lies on the southern cape and is filled with small, sandy nooks and crannies.

If you are looking to stay in El Nido, there are four main areas to choose from. The Town Proper (Buena Suerte) was the first area to be developed and is known for its tour offices, small hotels, and restaurants, as well as a small nightlife scene. Corong-Corong and Calaan Beach (Masagana) are both more isolated and less crowded, while luxury resorts can be found on the islands — albeit at a hefty price tag. If you want convenience, the Town Proper is the best choice, but if you’re looking for peace and quiet, Corong-Corong or Calaan Beach may be more suitable.

Spin Designer Hostel  (budget) – This hip and modern hostel is located in El Nido’s most central location, a short distance away from Corong Corong, the beach, and El Nido’s main town. The rooms are clean and well kept and provides a great vibe for their guests.

Nacpan Glamping  (mid-range) – Nacpan Glamping is a unique accommodation in El Nido that started in 2019. It’s right on Nacpan Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches you’ll see in Palawan. The glamping sites are comfortable and spacious and feature a swimming pool and an onsite restaurant and bar.

El Nido Pangalusian Island Resorts  (luxury) – One of the few five-star resorts in El Nido, Pangulasian, is a perfect resort for those looking to get luxury treatment and service while in paradise. The resort is exclusive and private and everything you’d want in a luxury resort.

How to Get Around El Nido

Getting around El Nido is easy and there are a few options available.

One of the most popular modes of transport is a moped. You can rent one from the town for around 500 pesos for a day or 250 pesos for half a day. You can get an even better deal if you rent for multiple days. It is important to remember to wear a helmet while driving.

Tuk-Tuk (Tricycle)

Another option is to use a tuk-tuk. These are very affordable in El Nido, and if you are just heading around the town, the fare is set at around 30 pesos per trip (as of 2019). You can also arrange for a tuk-tuk to take you further out, but it will cost more.

Finally, there are shuttles. Different shuttle companies offer shuttles to different spots in El Nido. For example, you can use the Nacpan beach shuttle to and from the beach for a cheap fare. This is an excellent option if you want to enjoy a few drinks at the beach, as it is unsafe to drink and drive.

Best Time to Visit El Nido, Palawan

The best time to visit El Nido is between January and April when the weather is dry and sunny. However, the Philippines has a tropical climate, so it is possible to experience rain at any moment. The rainy season in El Nido is typically from June to October and is usually not ideal for island hopping.

In addition, typhoons can occur in the Philippines. If you plan to visit El Nido during the rainy season, it is important to check the weather beforehand and be prepared for potential stormy weather.

How Expensive is El Nido?

El Nido is a popular destination in the Philippines, known for its island hopping tours, and as such, accommodation prices are slightly higher than in other places in the country. You can expect to spend around 800 – 1000 pesos per night for a place to stay. Restaurants in El Nido offer meals between 130 – 260 pesos. Island hopping tours are around 1640 pesos. For those wanting to explore the underwater world, diving is 1600 pesos per dive. The ferry to Coron is 2,640 pesos and scooter rentals cost between 350 – 500 pesos.

Tips for El Nido

If you plan on visiting El Nido, I highly recommend that you get a local SIM card in The Philippines. There are two major network providers, SMART and Globe. For the province and the islands, we recommend getting SMART. However, when you are back in a major city like Manila, Globe works the best.

The WiFi in this part of Southeast Asia is notoriously unreliable, and I can confirm this to be true. You can even purchase a SIM card ahead of time at this website.

My second tip is to purchase some water shoes and a water bag. Both of these items are very inexpensive, and the water shoes will be perfect for activities such as island hopping and walking through rocks on boats. Additionally, the water bag will provide protection for your camera and phone when you’re getting on and off the boats.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my post on 5 days in El Nido! Hopefully, this will help you plan your adventures a little better. If you’d like to learn more, you can check out my complete guide on all the best things to do in El Nido.

El Nido, Palawan is an amazing place to visit, despite its small size. There is a wide variety of activities to fit into a five day itinerary , and this guide will provide you with all the best ones! From relaxing on the sandy beaches to snorkeling in the crystal clear water, you can make the most out of your El Nido holiday. This itinerary can be used for travelers spending one day or a whole week. Whether you decide to space out the activities or cram them into a weekend, you will have a memorable experience.

2024 EL NIDO PALAWAN DIY TRAVEL GUIDE

I was welcomed by an extremely stunning sunset the moment I set foot in El Nido Palawan for the first time. The sky gradually turned into a gorgeous pastel palette. A few settled at the beach, too – in awe of the evenfall hues reflecting into the ocean creating an entirely calming mood. The restaurants ashore started to be filled with people who are tired and famished from exploring the best of the islands. I could hear distant chatters and merry laughter. The small waves softly crashed into the shore – a great music to my ear. I took it as El Nido’s way of telling me that I might have gone in there alone but everything’s going to be all right. So, it did.

Impressive rock and limestone formation, the crystal waters of the lagoons and beaches that come by surprise, fascinating caves, rich marine life, beaches with grainy to powdery cream to white sand, swells and waves good for surfing, hospitable locals – this is what El Nido, Palawan is all about. To date, it has been living up to be among the best islands in the Philippines and the world with its unique and amazing attractions that continuously invite everyone from anywhere around the globe to explore its wonders.

About El Nido Palawan

El Nido  is a municipality situated at the northern most part of the mainland Palawan. It was once a part of the municipality of Taytay. It is formerly known as Bacuit later renamed into El Nido (Spanish term for The Nest) by the Spaniards when a nest of a particular bird specie used for a special soup that costs a fortune was found in it.

Language Spoken

Though Tagalog and English are widely spoken in the town due to the frequent interaction with the tourists, often times, locals can be heard speaking in Cuyonin – a language of a group of indigenous people who migrated from Cuyo island to El Nido. Apart from Cuyonin, other prominent indigenous groups residing in the islands of Palawan include Tagbanua, Palaw-an, Calamianin and others.

Best Time to Visit

Best time to visit El Nido is from March to May – the sunny season in Philippines. The waves may be rough on rainy season making it impossible to go on an island hopping activity. Swells at Duli Beach during this season, on the other hand, are not good for surfing. Best time to visit El Nido for such activity is during the last two quarters of the year.

Tips in Traveling to El Nido Palawan

1. Bring dry bag and aqua shoes. There are several occasions that will require you to walk and pass through rocks in waters.

2. Use reef-friendly sunscreen.

3. Be a responsible traveler. Do not take home sand, shells, rocks or anything from the islands. Do not leave and throw anything to the ocean.

4. Do not feed the fish nor touch the corals.

5. Food are a little pricey in the town. The cheapest you can get is at Php 100.00 – Php 150.00 for a meal in a small canteen or local restaurant.

6. El Nido is a solo traveler-friendly town. You can just simply join tours by the agency and ask the tour guides to take photos of you. Shall you decide to book your tours with Northern Hope, look for kuya Elfer and Kuya Efren. They take the best photos! Lol.

7. Use of single-use plastic straw and bags is banned in El Nido. Shakes and drinks are sold with bamboo or paper straws and bringing of shopping eco-bags sometimes is necessary when buying something from shops.

8. If you’ll be booking a flight and will coming from Puerto Princesa City, make sure that you’ll book your departure late in the afternoon and your return early in the morning to maximize your stay in El Nido.

9. Matinloc Shrine has an entrance fee of Php 100.00 per head that is not included on the tour package fee.

10. Best place to watch the sunset is in Las Cabañas beach.

11. If you have a weak heart and are planning to go on a hike to Taraw Cliff, think twice. There are no harness and ropes at all. There is no established flat trail but sharp limestone all throughout.

Indeed! Palawan is a great place and must be on your bucket list. Ive been to El Nido and spent 3 days, and Puerto Princessa and spent 5 days last year. I wish i could stay longer. LOL. I like the calm environment. So relaxing. So natural. I like the people and the cleanliness of them. But no one knows that it was the last. I mean now that there was corona virus, I’m afraid of. So the next destination if the corona virus already vanished is Coron. I heard of it but never been there.

' src=

Coron is quite a great place! It has really good beaches, diving spots and lagoons. Though these may also be present in El Nido, the ones on Coron really have a distinct charm. Also, have you heard about Balabac? It has the best beaches and islands that I’ve seen! It’s at the farthest end of Palawan and it takes 10 hours of travel from Puerto Princesa but it’s worth it!

' src=

When did you go? What is it like since COVID and reopening to foreign tourists?

' src=

Hi! Aside from Tour A & C, anong recommendation nyo to add tour packages? thanks

Hello, Ms Anne. Thank you for this article, which is wonderful and helpful for the first timers. I am from Malaysia and will be going to Pelawan sometime toward the end of March 2023. Will it be safe and convenient for Malaysians to do self driving tour on rented car in Pelawan? Because we are thinking of slowly and deeply enjoyed all the wonderfull places and people on the island. In the past we have been doing self driving tours in the Asean countries.

Hi, Kenny! Yes, it is safe and convenient to go around El Nido on a self-driving tour especially if you’re visiting the inland attractions 🙂

' src=

Yung van fare po ba na P500 one way lang? O roundtrip na po?

It’s only one way po. When we visited last July 2022, it’s at 700 already. I’ll update this one 🙂

The Best 4-Day El Nido Palawan Itinerary

El Nido is one of my favorite places in the Philippines. I’ve stayed there in total for almost a month and done many of the activities and tours… twice. That’s why it’s not too difficult for me to suggest what people should do when they tell me they only have one day or one week. I decided to make this 4-day El Nido Itinerary as most people visiting El Nido seem to stay for more than a couple of nights but less than a week.

In this El Nido itinerary, I will share with you how to get to El Nido, what tours you should do, which day-trips to make, where to stay and tips on how to maximize your days if you are on a tight schedule.

If you want to view all of the best things to do in El Nido and decide which ones you are interested in. You can click on my El Nido Travel Guide to view:  EL NIDO, PALAWAN TRAVEL GUIDE: 20 AWESOME THINGS TO DO

Table of Contents

HOW TO GET TO EL NIDO

You can either fly in to El Nido airport (more expensive and can be hard to book) or fly into Puerto Princesa (cheaper and much more availability). If you fly into El Nido you just take the shuttle to your hotel and you are done, it is very easy. If you fly into Puerto Princesa you will need to take the van up to El Nido.

It is a 6-hour van ride, crammed in with other tourists to reach El Nido. The van from Puerto Princesa to El Nido costs $15-20 USD. The van will drop you 10 minutes outside of El Nido town and you can take a tricycle for a few dollars into the town to find your accommodation.

So most people fly into Puerto and then head to either El Nido for the island hopping or to Sabang to see the famous underground river. For both of these destinations, you will book a seat in a shared van unless you are fancy with your own private car. This is a Philippines backpacking guide so I will assume you are choosing the van. The links below let you book the van online the night before and are about the same as the price you will find from the guy on the street who likely won’t have an A/C fan or will cram an extra tourist in the car.

Book your ticket to get to Sabang from Puerto Princesa:  Click here

Book your ticket to get to El Nido from Puerto Princesa:  Click here

You can do this all in one day if you organize everything correctly and there are no delays. So essentially, you can make it from Bohol/Cebu/Manila in the morning to El Nido in the evening if everything goes to plan.

Before you book check out this guide about things to know before you visit El Nido , with handy tips on the top wifi spots, cafes and other money-saving opportunities in El Nido.

WHERE TO STAY IN EL NIDO

I stayed at the  Spin Designer Hoste l.  The vibes at this hostel were about adventuring during the day and partying at night. The staff helped to book tours cheaper than the vendors on the street and gave discounts if you did multiple tours. If you are looking for a fun and cheap time you can’t go past  Spin Designer Hostel . Make sure to book in advance as El Nido does get booked out.

I’ll outline a few other good options below and it really depends on what type of location/hotel you are looking for.

Here is a little checklist to start!

  • If you are on a budget and looking for a cheap hotel or hostels, the town proper (El Nido Town) is the best choice for you.
  • If you want to see the best sunset every night in El Nido, Las Cabanas is a perfect place for you.
  • If you are in El Nido looking for for some peace, luxury and relaxing place, you need to stay in Lio Beach.
  • If you want a secluded yet an exotic place to stay with the best beach on the mainland, head on to Nacpan Beach.

The town proper of El Nido is the main hub of the region. You can find a great selection of shops and restaurants aside from the beautiful beaches, tour operators and laid-back nightlife. Below are my top picks in El Nido Town Proper for each different type of budget.

Happiness Hostel  (Budget):  Right in the center of the town, Happiness hostel, offers a cozy stay and chill vibes to all their guests. It is one of the recommended budget-friendly hostels in town.

The dorms offer a semi-private accommodation with a closed personal bed with a sliding door that has a light and a fan inside. Let’s be honest we all appreciate that privacy of a screen in a dorm room. If you are a beer and food lover, Happiness beach bar serves sumptuous food and cheap beer.

Click here  to check the best current rates and availability of Happiness Hostel.

Frendz Hostel El Nido  (Good atmosphere) :  Nestled in the heart of El Nido, this newly-opened hostel offers free Wifi, rooftop swimming pool ( at a hostel! ), and bar which has an incredible sunset view, specialty coffee, and first-rate rooms. The restaurant is excellent and provides a wide variety of options. Frendz Hostel is a great place to meet new friends and create memories with them. All of the staff will really become your “frendz”.

Vellago Resort  (Luxury):  Vellago Resort is a luxurious boutique hotel located just outside El Nido town proper specifically on Seven Commando Beach. Boasting white sand, turquoise water, and countless coconut trees. You can enjoy the best sunset on the beach bar or on your balcony.

Guests can experience island hopping with a speed boat, snorkeling, kayaking, play beach volleyball, or sit back with a cold drink and take in your beautiful surroundings. One of the highlights of your stay here is that they set up a romantic dinner on the beach every day.

Or you could stay at Lio Beach, which is much more secluded and low-key with chill beach vibes for sunset each night.

Located north of El Nido, Lio Beach has a wide sandbar reaching far back to its restaurants and bars shaded by coconut trees. If you want to grab a drink or some nibbles, I recommend Shaka Café and El Nido Grill. Lio Beach is about 20 minutes by motorbike from the town proper and there is also a free shuttle that runs every hour so you are disconnected from the town but also quite easily connected and with the free shuttle it is never out of reach to drop into the town, which I did many times.

Balai Adlao Resort :  If you want a laid-back escape from the buzzing El Nido Town, Balai Adlao, a 3-star boutique resort, is perfect for providing that privacy and convenience you are looking for. The place is very modern and equipped with a number of restaurants nearby. The rooms are quite spacious and the staff is very friendly and hospitable.

Click here  to check the best current rates and availability of Balai Adlao Resort.

The View :  Situated 6 kilometers away from El Nido town, The View does bed and breakfast which serves Continental and American breakfast daily. The place is a little bit remote but it is highly recommended and worth it. I love the big hammock hanging on the terrace as it gives a spectacular panoramic view of El Nido.

TRANSPORT IN EL NIDO

To get around El Nido you can walk to all of the restaurants nearby El Nido Town, which is within a 1km distance. The best thing to do is to rent a moped or motorbike for at least one day. For $5, we rented a motorbike for the day while we were in El Nido and drove to nearby beaches. You could also rent a car or join a tour group if you prefer not to ride a motorbike.

EL NIDO FOUR DAY ITINERARY

Okay so this is a strategic itinerary so that you aren’t too tired but also don’t waste any of your valuable vacation time. In four days I suggest a minimum of two days island-hopping and one beach day. I’ll detail it all below and you can change it up to suit your needs as you go.

EL NIDO ITINERARY: DAY 1

Okay, we all know El Nido is famous for it’s island hopping so today you will head out on Tour A, which is one of the most popular tours in El Nido.

To book your  EL NIDO   ISLAND HOPPING A TOUR  you can  Click Here  to check the availability and book online (It’s just $18 USD)

  • It includes Three Lagoons at Miniloc Island, Shimizu Island, Snorkel with turtles at Seven Commando Beach, BBQ Lunch

SEVEN COMMANDO BEACH

Coconut trees lined Seven Commando beach and we, of course, sipped on a few after a quick snorkel. Our boat docked here for a 45-minute chill/exploration session. Many people snorkeled but we just hung out on the beach and had a swim.

The rocks in El Nido are incredibly sharp, Seven Commando Beach was no exception. Wear shoes if you are planning on exploring in caves and on rocks like us.

On my second visit to Seven Commando Beach, I also did a beach clean-up. El Nido is making great changes but trash on the islands still remains prevalent.

BIG LAGOON EL NIDO

Cruising up the lagoon was our first real look at how dramatic the cliffs and landscape was in El Nido. The lagoon has a narrow and the boats manage to navigate alongside each other as everyone on board arches their necks checking out the intense cliffs. The boat glides across the glassy water, almost crystal as the narrow entrance finally opens up into a giant lagoon. The boat did a slow circle in the lagoon letting us take in the sights before heading back out the narrow stretch.

LUNCH AT SHIMIZU ISLAND EL NIDO

Our guides had been cooking on the grill all morning as we cruised around from island to island. It was time to see what they had produced. It was an absolute feast.

I’ll be honest I’ve been on some tours where you get a cruddy sandwich and a bag of chips. This blew it out of the water. Grilled pork and chicken, fresh grilled fish and fruits and of course an abundance of rice.

There was plenty for everyone as we sat around on the logs watching monitor lizards amongst the trees. A bit of exploration post-lunch never hurts and we found a very shallow spot for a couple of jumps.

SECRET LAGOON EL NIDO

This spot was amazing but probably my least favorite as there were more than fifty tourists crammed into a tiny lagoon at once. We had to swim to a small hole and clamber through. One through sun shone down into a tennis court-sized lagoon, totally enclosed by sharp cliffs. It was a great spot but a little bit of an anti-climax.

However, the beach around the corner once back out of the lagoon was really cool. The landscape here was by far my favorite spot of the day and I camped on my favorite spot at the front of the tour boat as we left snapping a few shots to capture the entire scene. I have never seen anything like it before in my life.

The second time I visited Secret Lagoon in El Nido on Tour A , I was armed with a drone. It gave me a whole new perspective on the lagoon and the scale of the beach. I’ve added those photos below.

SMALL LAGOON EL NIDO

Our last stop of the day would be the small lagoon. By now I had become a bit desensitized to the majestic beauty all around me. But the small lagoon hit another chord.

We were offered kayaks as we arrived but also given the option to swim. Being the cheap guys Jorden and I were of course we swam. It wasn’t too far just a few hundred yards both ways.

Swimming through this lagoon was beautiful, calming and a great way to end the day. We went as far in as we could and just spend a while floating on our backs taking in everything around us.

The second time I visited Small Lagoon was actually with the Red Bull Cliff Diving team, which was a whole new experience. They had set up ladders to a platform and were jumping from 21m and 27m for their competition. I’ve put the video below about this epic experience.

EL NIDO ITINERARY: DAY 2

The island hopping in El Nido is incredible, but I suggest taking a day off in between your island hopping trips so you don’t’ wear yourself out. That doesn’t mean I’m suggesting you don’t explore on day two. In fact, day two is going to be a big adventure.

Firstly, you have an optional activity and it depends on whether you are capable of waking up for sunrise or not. If you are a true adventurer you will be up for it without question. The first activity of the day is hiking Taraw Peak for Sunrise.

HIKING TARAW PEAK FOR SUNRISE

Expect extreme humidity. That’s what to expect! Holy hell this was the most humid climb of my life. But seriously, expect a short, steep intense climb and then to enjoy an epic, epic view for sunrise on jagged rocks. If you like adventure and miss this one in El Nido, you messed up!

The trail winds through the small neighborhood before throwing you into the jungle. From the first minute, you are clambering more than following a trail or ‘climbing’. The jagged rocks mean that you are constantly concentrating so you don’t misplace a step as they are unforgiving.

There are sections that are relatively vertical but nothing too extreme. There were lots of amateur hikers and climbers both male, female, young and old on the trail so don’t be scared of this hike because of the sharp rocks.

There were a  few sections that were a bit sketchy but there is always something to hold on to. I’d say the level of difficulty for this hike is moderate to above average because of the rock clambering. I don’t want to discourage you from climbing Taraw Peak but some people may struggle or get frightened so I made sure to take these two photos in probably the two most sketchy spots.

Once we cleared the final little ascent the view opened up and what a view it is. You have a birds-eye view over El Nido town and the entire bay, where the island-hopping boats are all lined up for another day of touring. We could see all the way out to Cadlao Island and beyond.

NACPAN BEACH

After heading up Taraw Peak for sunrise, head back to your hotel and grab breakfast. Next, you will either rent a motorbike or a van and head out on a day of beach hang-outs and exploration.

A moped costs 350 Pesos or $7 USD. We split that between two people and you have your transport sorted for the day for a few dollars. Gasoline is usually only a couple of dollars. You will need to leave your passport with the rental person but that is fair, remember you have their bike!

Nacpan Beach is about 30 minutes away from El Nido town and one of the most pristine beaches in the area. The water clarity is perfect and coconut trees and chill cafes and bars line the beach. Down to the right is empty shoreline to hang out on and down to the left is a small hill to explore.

I remember hearing that there was great shrimp at Nacpan Beach and I can testify that it is true. My lunch was beautiful and I topped it off with a mango smoothie for good measure. Sorry, I forgot to take a photo, but let’s be honest you can’t taste a photo. Just trust me to get the shrimp.

CHECK OUT VERDE SAFARI BEACH

After Nacpan Beach our next stop was Duli Beach.. or so we thought. It was a 30-minute drive and after 40 minutes we thought we had finally arrived.

The beach looked amazing but our map told us we had actually arrived at Verde Safari Beach. It was a blessing in disguise as this was an amazing stretch of shoreline that was entirely empty. A few fishing boats were resting on the shore in front of rows of coconut palms.

SURF OR HANGOUT AT DULI BEACH

With less than an hour before the sun would set we finally arrived at Duli Beach. A few small huts were scattered along the beach and only two local kids were trying to surf the whitewash.

Jorden and I grabbed the GoPro and headed out deep into the thick of the action. The locals thought we were drowning and were preparing a rescue before I came back and told them we were fine. Jorden headed in and I spent the entire sunset floating around in the impact zone.

The waves were big but not barreling clean. This was one of my favorite nights from our one month trip in the  Philippines .

EL NIDO ITINERARY: DAY 3

Okay, day three and it’s time to get back on board the island-hopping circuit. This time I suggest going on tour C. It is the other, very impressive tour with hidden lagoons and snorkeling with turtles. However, if you were about overwhelmed by the crowds on your Tour A, I suggest picking Tour B this time. I’ve detailed all of the tours with photos and guides in this blog post so you can review, which one looks best to you.

To book your  EL NIDO   ISLAND HOPPING C TOUR  you can  Click Here  to check the availability and book online (It’s just $18 USD)

  • It includes Helicopter Island, Secret Beach, Matinloc Shrine, Talisay Beach, BBQ Lunch

HELICOPTER ISLAND

The first island on the itinerary of Tour C in El Nido is the famous Helicopter Island. It isn’t hard to figure out how this island earned it’s name with a distinctive helicopter shape, visible from a side profile. It is incredibly busy… always but you can still have a great time here. You can hang out here on the beach or go for a bit of a walk but the best way to explore Helicopter Island is with your snorkel and mask.

When your boat docks walk down towards the left (while facing the island) and then snorkel around the corner. Here you will get away from the crowds and be able to explore some beautiful coral. There are also some unique shelves and rock formations under the cliffs if you go far enough. I embedded a video from my underwater exploration at Helicopter Island below.

MATINLOC SHRINE (OR NEARBY BEACHES)

Matinloc Shrine is a bit of a weird stop on an island hopping tour and it is probably the least impressive thing to do on Tour C. It is essentially an abandoned shrine.

Your captain will likely ask if you do indeed want to visit or just go snorkeling/visit another beach. I believe it costs extra to visit as well. All you do is get off and go look inside the abandoned building. Bit of a waste of time when there are beautiful beaches, reefs, and turtles nearby!

We chose to visit a nearby beach instead (no extra fee) and went snorkeling and exploring. The beauty of the area near Matinloc Shrine is that there are lots of different beaches, coves, and snorkel spots so your captain should be able to pick a  spot that isn’t crazy crowded!

Our captain took us to an amazing snorkel spot and beach but we just hung out on the boat and ate there. We snorkeled after but there was no need to get out and unpack the food we just ate it straight on the boat. I can’t remember the name of this spot for the life of me but most of the tours will choose lunch at one of a few spots.

HIDDEN BEACH

Hidden Beach is a cool little cove hiding behind the karst limestone cliffs. Your boat will drop you at the entrance and you swim/wade through the water until you make your way into the cove after about 200m.

It is usually very crowded in here although it is incredibly beautiful. If this cove was empty it would be one of my favorite places in El Nido but both times it has been full of life jackets and hundreds of people so it is often a bit more manic than magic. Nonetheless, I’ve always enjoyed sitting on the sand here and admiring the jagged cliffs and the beautiful scenery.

On my second visit to Hidden Beach, we did a cleanup and carried out 1.5 bags of trash and even swam out with it. It’s great to leave places better than when you found them and added a challenge to our Hidden Beach experience.

SNORKEL SPOT (TURTLES!)

Our final stop of the day was right next to Matinloc Shrine again where our captain told us there was a great reef. He wasn’t wrong and our guides even spotted a couple of turtles for us to swim with. There was a huge drop-off and it was an epic spot for free-diving and getting a closer look at the coral below.

There were some really cool table corals and lots of fish in this area. We were the only tourists enjoying this spot, which is what I liked about Tour C in El Nido. It seemed a bit more flexible than Tour A, which was all about the lagoons. Tour C was a bit easier to change depending on what you were interested in.

EL NIDO ITINERARY: DAY 4

Today you have two options you either take it easy at your hotel, or the beach and then rent a kayak and paddle out to the nearby Cadlao Island OR you buckle u for one more day of island-hopping but this time on one of the less crowded routes by joining Tour B. I personally loved Tour B. We hardly saw anyone at the beaches and caves when we visited and it was very relaxed compared to Tour A and Tour C. I’ll share below the Tour B experience but also my experience kayaking out to Cadlao Island so you can decide.

To book your  EL NIDO   ISLAND HOPPING B TOUR  you can  Click Here  to check the availability and book online (It’s just $18 USD)

  • It includes Snake Island, Pinagbuyutan Island, Cudugnon Cave, BBQ Lunch

PINAGBUYUTAN ISLAND

Pinagbuyutan Island is probably my favorite island in El Nido. It has huge towering cliffs that shoot straight down dramatically over the small stretches of the beach below. There’s nothing more than a shack and coconut trees on this desolate island.

When we rolled in there was just one local selling coconuts and no other tourists. It stayed that way for most of our visit.

We walked around the edges of the island in between the tall grass and scattered palms.  This is how island hopping is supposed to be. Quiet, relaxing and away from the crowds. Luckily for us, we were in no rush and actually spent several hours at Pinagbuyutan Island.

There are also some great snorkeling spots just off the shore with beautiful reefs waiting to be discovered below the surface.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

ENTALULUA BEACH OR PAPAYA BEACH

One of the stops on Tour B in El Nido will be Entalula or Papaya Beach. Both are awesome and we hung out at Papaya Beach. It is quite similar to Seven Commando Beach, which you will find on Tour A. Beautiful clear water, a nice sandy beach with a backdrop of coconut trees.

This is a great stop to relax and chill on the beach with your friends. There aren’t too many activities here other than just hanging out and maybe sipping on a coconut from the local stand.

We did a beach clean-up at this stop and collected several large bags of trash. El Nido is making great changes but trash on the islands still remains prevalent. I have posted the video of the cleanup below.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

SNAKE ISLAND

Snake Island is an epic spot, one I didn’t even know about until we arrived. So often in El Nido, all of the focus is on lagoons and secret beaches that anything else is almost pushed to the side. Anywhere else in the world and Snake Island would be the number one attraction.

This beautiful island arcs out into a sandbar that connects to the mainland at low tide. This area reminded me of a mini French Polynesia with the steep, green hills as a backdrop to the cerulean blue water.

I really enjoyed this spot and flying the drone here was so much fun with something to look at in all directions. Snake Island was a great surprise and not a spot I had seen before so it was great to be exploring something a little different in El Nido on Tour B.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

CUDUGNON CAVE

On Tour B there are two caving opportunities. The first cave is Cudugnon Cave, which was actually super cool. The boat parks on the beach and then you crawl through a little hole into a hidden area inside the cliffs.

Here there are amazing rock formations and you can actually keep climbing up pretty high. It was remarkable that this cave exists hidden inside the cliff walls, out of view from passing boats.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

CATHEDRAL CAVE

The second cave was pretty wild. Cathedral Cave was incredible and one of my favorite caves I’ve visited in the Philippines. You jump off the boat and either swim or kayak in. We swam inside despite our guide saying there were snakes. I’m still not sure if he was serious or not!

Inside huge stalagmites and stalactites hang from the roof and grow from the floor. It is mindblowing to look around at the rock formations inside this sea cave. Under the surface, the water has a luminescent glow so definitely bring your snorkel to enjoy this cave. We explored it all the way to the back where things get quite creepy and gross but it is here that you can see the luminescent glow of the blue water on the walls.

Make sure you go all the way to the back of the cave to look back towards the entrance to check that out.

el nido tour package 5 days 4 nights 2023

KAYAKING IN EL NIDO

We took some water and a GoPro and headed off towards Paradise Beach. Paddling out of El Nido Proper is really cool. We weaved in and out of all of the tour boats and continually looked back towards the small town behind us.

The paddle to Paradise Beach took us less than 40 minutes at a leisurely pace. Only one other kayaker was resting on the shore and he left soon after we arrived. For the first time in El Nido, we had an entire beach to ourselves. We both took off exploring, climbing trees and discovering small caves and coves.

There were huge amounts of rubbish on the beach that had been swept in from elsewhere. Aside from the rubbish, it was a beautiful little spot to castaway for an hour or so.

We jumped back into our kayak and continued to head towards Dilumacad/Helicopter Island without actually trying to reach it. All we planned on doing was exploring several of the beaches that Tour A didn’t visit.

We pulled into a little bay close to Pasandingan Cove that had a great rock for jumping from. Unfortunately, all the rocks in El Nido are incredibly sharp, which makes cliff jumping almost impossible in some locations. The cliffs always look amazing but they are not climber friendly whatsoever.

As the sun began to lower we quickly paddled back to prime position just outside of the harbor. From the town you cannot see the sunset unless you walk for 30 minutes. We positioned ourselves looking straight into the sun as it slowly lit up the sky. We ended up being late returning our kayak but enjoying the sunset from the kayak with our feet dangling in the warm water is one of the moments I won’t forget from our one month trip in the Philippines.

Ive been in El Nido and Puerto Princessa last year. I like the calm environment. So relaxing. So natural. I like the people and the cleanliness of them. But no one knows that it was the last. I mean now that there were corona virus, I'm afraid of. So the next destination if corona virus already vanished, is Coron. I heard of it but never been there.
