Full details on Gautrain prices in 2024, including PDF schedule and times

Ali Bahati Juma

Gauteng commuters can now get all the details on Gautrain prices 2024, including the schedule and times, after the service published PDF timetables on its website.

The new Gautrain fares come into effect on 1 June 2024 and will depend on whether you’re commuting during peak times or off-peak times.

Peak and off-peak times

“Peak fares indicated in orange are applied when you access the Gautrain system between 06h00 and 08h30, between 15h00 and 18h30 on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays,” the Gautrain Management Agency said.

“Off-peak fares indicated in green are applied when you access the Gautrain system before 06h00, between 08h30 and 15h00 or after 18h30 on weekdays.”

For Pay-As-You-Go commuters, the minimum available value on a Gautrain card is R36 while the maximum that can be loaded is R3,200.

“Simply load your preferred Pay-As-You-Go value onto your Gautrain Card and the correct fare will be automatically deducted from your Card when tagging out,” the Agency explained.

“For a trial period, high-peak fares (Red Fares) have been suspended when travelling in the high peak period. While the high-peak fares no longer apply, expect more congested trains, platforms and stations. For your comfort, we recommend that you travel off-peak. Depending on capacity constraints, we may re-introduce the high-peak fares at a later date.”

Minor Performance Enhancements

Ratings and Reviews

Used to be good.

The app used to be useful but it’s so frustrating now. Trying to see schedules ahead of time is impossible. Going through the annoying registration process only to still not have functionality is so frustrating. Apps are supposed to be quicker and more useful on the go than the websites.

Update issues

Just updated to the new app. The features are great and will definitely make getting info better and easier. However, there are some things that could be improved: 1. I have a notification bubble on my app that shows 7 notifications. When I open the app is doesn’t show any notifications and so I can’t clear these. It’s quite frustrating - pls fix this. 2. I logged into my profile, but every time I close the app it logs me out. This should be like other apps, that once you login your details are saved so you don’t have to keep typing in login details.

A worthwhile app

If you are a regular Gautrain user, this app will make your life easier. Not only is the train schedule useful, but you can also register and reload your fare card without having to stand in line. True, the bus route functionality (tracking) never seems to work, but this is only one of the apps functionality. Get it!

Make the most of this service and squeeze in a shopping spree at Sandton City while you're at it!

2. Check train times and buy your ticket .

The peak periods are from Monday to Friday with the morning peak period running from 05h30 to 08h30 and the afternoon peak period running from 15h00 to 18h00.

Tip: Remember to have at least R21 available on your Gautrain Gold Card to access any fare gate.

3. If you regularly Gautrain it, register your Gautrain Gold Card.

Although this is not required, by registering your card you can ensure that if your card is lost or stolen, your unused credit can be transferred to a new card. Registering your card can be done at the Ticketing Office at all stations.

Tip: Regular Gautrain passengers should check out the regular commuter saving options available by clicking here .

Enjoy the journey, but remember no eating or drinking!

Noted for its sparkling clean interior, eating and drinking is strictly prohibited on all trains.

History of stary oskol.

In 1300, there was a village called Ugly on the the territory of the present city. Today, it is one of the districts of Stary Oskol. At that time, the village was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and was a border crossing point on the border with the Golden Horde.

The settlement of Oskol was founded by Russian Tsar Fyodor Ioanovich’s order (Ivan’s the Terrible son) to protect the southern borders of the Russian kingdom in 1593. The bulk of the population were peasants and the military.

In 1617, the town was burned by the Poles. In 1625, 1642 and 1677, the Crimean Tatars approached Stary Oskol, but could not capture it. The town was renamed Stary Oskol (meaning Old Oskol) in 1655, when the town of Tsaryov-Alexeyev, located down the river, was renamed Novy Oskol (New Oskol). Fortifications of the town existed until the 18th century.

More Historical Facts…

Gradually, Stary Oskol turned into peaceful, commercial and merchant town - the center of an agricultural district. Industrial production was represented mainly by enterprises on processing agricultural products.

In 1780, the town got its coat of arms. In 1784, Stary Oskol like most Russian towns of that time was rebuilt according to a new plan signed by Empress Catherine II. A large number of brick houses were built, mostly two-story buildings. The historic center of Stary Oskol has been preserved to our time.

In the second half of the 19th century, the town had a wide network of schools, libraries, reading rooms, printing, secondary schools. In 1894, construction of the railway began, trade and industry began to develop rapidly.

Until the 1930s, there were eleven Orthodox churches in Stary Oskol. During the Second World War, Stary Oskol was occupied by the Germans from July 2, 1942 to February 5, 1943. In 1954, the city became part of the newly formed Belgorod region.

In the late 1960s - early 1970s, in connection with the active development of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (the most powerful iron ore basin in the world), Stary Oskol became a major center of iron and steel industry.

Stary Oskol was declared a city of three top-priority Komsomol construction projects. The largest enterprises: Lebedinsky Mining and Processing Plant, Stoilensky Mining and Processing Plant, Oskolsky Electrometallurgical Plant became not only the city-forming enterprises, but also the largest industrial enterprises of the country. Stary Oskol experienced a new birth.

Today, Stary Oskol is a rapidly developing city, one of the leading mining and metallurgical centers of Russia.

Gautrain Schools Excursion Program

How it works:.

  • To participate in the Gautrain School Excursion Program ("Program"), interested primary and/or secondary schools must complete registration either on the Gautrain website  https://www.gautrain.co.za/commuter/schooltravel or by submitting a manual application form that can be obtained upon request, and which should be returned to  [email protected]
  • Within two to four (2-4) business days of completing the registration or application, the school will receive an e-mail with a cost estimate for their tailor-made school excursion.
  • Proof of payment must be received at least five (5) business days prior to the school excursion, or alternatively, customers may make an immediate payment/real-time payment/pay-and-clear payment and send Proof of Payment to  [email protected] .

Please fill in the form below:

School details, school contact person, school excursion details, point of interest.

  • The Program is valid from 1 June 2021 - 1 June 2025. Gautrain reserves the right to withdraw, postpone, amend, or suspend this Program at any time and for any reason which may be deemed necessary, without prior notice. This Program may also be amended at any time due to Covid-19 regulations as issued by the Government of South Africa.
  • This tailor-made Program is only applicable to schools that will be traveling to their place of interest by the Gautrain train service.
  • Interested schools must ensure that their contact details and school information have been correctly captured upon registration. Gautrain will not be held liable for any losses or additional expenses incurred by the school should their contact details be incorrectly captured.
  • Whilst we make every effort to reserve discount entry fees/prices at the list of places of interest, prices may fluctuate, depending on the place of interest. We will however timeously inform the school of any price changes.
  • Bombela will provide costs to the interested schools, this cost estimate will include all fees for the school excursion, which is inclusive of the Gautrain train and bus fares and entry fees of the place of interest. The schools must collect the monies from the scholars and make a single payment to Bombela at least five (5) business days before the school excursion. This will enable Bombela to make the respective payment/s to the place of interest on behalf of the school, as well as to make the other travel arrangements necessary for a successful school excursion.
  • Proof of Payment must be sent to  [email protected] at least five (5) business days prior to the excursion. Alternatively, immediate payment/real-time payment/pay-and-clear payment is also acceptable and the Proof of Payment must be sent to  [email protected] at least 2 hours before the school arrives at a Gautrain station.

  • Please note that should the school pay more than the costs quoted by Bombela, the onus will be on the school to request a refund of this overpayment. Should no such refund request be received by Bombela within a period of 60 days from the date of payment, the school will be deemed to have forfeited the excess payment and shall have no claim whatsoever as against Bombela for such excess payment.
  • Interested schools will be responsible for the payment of the full Gautrain fare per scholar as well as discounted entry fee at the place of interest per scholar. Visit the Gautrain website to view fares:  co.za/commuter/farecalc

  • By participating in the Program, the school acknowledges and agrees that it shall indemnify Bombela from any and all claims as described above, made by the scholars (or parent(s)/guardian(s) thereof), and/or the points of interest.
  • Bombela will not be held liable for the products and/or services rendered by the places of interest and any queries related to the third party's products and/or services must be addressed directly with the respective third party.
