We enjoyed this trip thoroughly. The guides were very informative and patient. Our drivers were great too. I don’t know how the navigate through all that traffic but seem to do it with ease. There was a diversity of monuments and places of interest and enjoyed all of it. Definitely recommend to pay for the optional Everest flight. Worth every penny!

It was amazing! Everything and I mean everything was easy. From my questions answered in a timely manner with accuracy and knowledge to my reasking because I was unsure or nervous and just needed reassurance of some things. I was never made to feel like my inquiries were invalid. As far as my trek….. I couldn’t be happier how it turned out. My guide, Ganga is simply amazing! He is patient, knowledgeable, respectful, kind and super easy to talk to about anything. His attention to everyone in the group was more than just a job. To him we were his friend, family. Thank you Ganga for taking such good care of me on my DREAM trip. I could not have made it without you and your love of your country, job and your passion for showing the world the beauty that is there. All of my appreciation and gratitude. Katy

Passang, our guide from Sherpa Expeditions, was a true gem. He had answers to all our questions, addressed any concerns or complaints promptly, and welcomed our suggestions with open arms. Despite being professional and knowledgeable, Passang maintained a friendly and approachable demeanor, making our trek an even more enjoyable experience.

Our recent trip to Nepal was an amazing experience . It truly was a trip of a lifetime! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Shailesh Pokharel, the local travel advisor and this was a fantastic start! Despite the constant rainy weather everything went as planned. The trip, overall, was a huge success. Even in difficult, due to the rain situations, our guide, Valmiki Rijal, Sujan, as we used to call him, offered alternative solutions that help us to enjoy every moment of our trip. On the way to every location, he provided interesting and fascinating facts about the history and geography of the places and regions. He is very knowledgeable about Nepal in general, he is nice and engaging and made sure to give us an amazing experience. Sujan was very patient with us and did his best to accommodate our needs and interests. Sujan is a great guide, a true sample of excellent tour guide! After spending 7 days with him, I don’t hesitate to say that we got an exceptional friend in Nepal. Apart of the rainy weather, the other problem we faced was the bad condition of the 2 hotels we stayed in, but again everybody did their best to facilitate our stay. Both Shailesh Pokharel and Valmiki Rijal, (Sujan) and all the people met in Nepal were so friendly that make us felt like home. During our stay in Nepal, we always felt like we were among friends. We really loved meeting Sujan’s family and enjoying the dinner, Shailesh’s wife offered to us at their home. Shailesh and Sujan you have did a great job. Thank you! We highly recommend Nepal Trekking Routes!

Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return Tour

Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return

Excellent trip to Everest base camp! If you are planning on exploring (the base of) the top of the world -please book with Nepal Trekking Routes. We had a wonderful experience- before we decided to even book our trip the owner answered every question in a timely manner (I asked a lot of questions). We were greeted at the airport and taken directly to our hotel (amazing perk after traveling over 24 hours). Our tour guide Nawin was fantastic, he catered to every request and was an excellent source of information and inspiration (emphasis on inspiration, hiking to EBC was challenging at times). We made it to EBC! Nepal Trekking Routes Really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great trip- upon our return to Kathmandu they also arranged transportation to the airport and even checked in to make sure we made it back to Miami (excellent customer service). Bottom line we had a magical trip through Himalayas-Nepal trekking routes made it possible!

Totally exceeded expectations, really good all round tour of Nepal highlights, Nebal surprised us every day with extras he had arranged. Totally took the stress out of travelling. Will definitely use intrepid again

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Tour

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

This is a great trip for the money. Just be aware that some of the Tea house do not have a hot shower. The trails are very well maintained but are steep steps. Poles are a must to take pressure off the knees. The other option which is not included which should be is round trip Air from Kathmandu to Pokhara, The included tourist bus takes all day each way is not comfortable. I would recommend for $200 to do a round trip air. Tips for the guides 15% of what you pay for the trip. Please take note they have to provide their own meals along the way so please tip them generously. Make sure you take GOOD rain gear.

Reviews of Small Group tours to Nepal

G adventures is dialled when it comes to the EBC trek.
The best trekking company in Nepal! I spent a month in Nepal and did two separate treks with Alpine Ramble – the 11 day Annapurna Circuit and 8 day Everest Base Camp. I did a fair amount of research on trekking companies before booking and Alpine Ramble more than deserves the reputation it has in review sections like these! First up, you have Dil who is the mastermind behind it all. He was really easy to contact via WhatsApp before I arrived. He was able to plan a trip for me that allowed me to see both Annapurna and Everest regions, with enough time for acclimatisation, rest and unforeseen delays. Speaking of which, my flight to Lukla was delayed one day due to weather, which is very common. But this is when Dil went above and beyond. He organised a helicopter to take me the next day, at no additional charge. For context, the other people on the heli had to pay upwards of $300 each. Now I’m sure Dil wouldn’t be able to do this for every customer, but it just shows how committed he is to making sure you have the best time. And I’m so thankful, it was only one of the best experiences of my life! Now onto the guides and porters. I had Basanta and Prakash for ACT, and Krishna Dhakar and Balkumar for EBC. They were all fantastic. Whether it was playing ludo/cards together or them cheerleading me through some of the more challenging sections of the trek, I will be forever grateful to these guys for making my experience so special. They were all such wonderful people. They set a nice slow hiking pace and checked my oxygen levels every night to reduce the risk of altitude sickness, but also recognised when I could go a bit further. They took care of everything, so I could just focus on enjoying the trekking! We stayed in great tea houses throughout, and I’d always seem to get the best room on offer. Maybe that’s Dil working his magic! Last thing. You read and hear a lot about poor working conditions and exploitation in Nepal. It was really important to me that this wasn’t the case for my trip and I can confirm that Alpine Ramble treats all its staff fairly. From limits on how heavy the porters’ bags can be, to the 10% that goes to charity, Alpine Ramble seems very ethical. I was delighted to hear that one of my guide’s (very smart) sons was studying Computer Science in the US. It gave me confidence that my money was being fairly distributed. Thank you so much to everyone at Alpine Ramble, I’ll be back one day!
Our tour was incredibly enjoyable, informative and memorable!!! It gave us a great first taste of the beautiful country of Nepal with our tour guide Navaraj, with hopes of returning in the future for a longer, more complete exploration. We were lucky that my wife and I were the only participants in this edition of the Tale of Three Cities Tour, so Navaraj was able to tailor the tour more to our interests. He did a great job of not only showing us the highlights in and around Kathmandu but he also gave us real life exposure of the Nepalese people and their culture. With Navaraj's guidance, we also had enjoyable experiences sampling foods that are typical of the region. Since there were only the two of us, Navaraj was always ready to answer our many questions and gave us incites into the area, sites visited, Nepalese culture and religions. We would highly recommend Navaraj and Tour Radar to anyone interested in getting an intimate and thorough introduction to Nepal.

Hikers make their way up mountain range in Annapurna

Sitting on the spine of the world, sandwiched between the superpowers of China and India, you’ll find humble Nepal.

We’re not meant to play favorites, but when you’ve been running Nepal tours for three decades, the country kind of gets under your skin. Picture a tiny Himalayan country where sherpas trudge the mountain paths and prayer flags crisscross the sky, their fluttering Buddhist mantras waving in the breeze. Follow our leaders up to Everest Base Camp, trek the rhododendron forests of the Annapurna, track rhinos through Chitwan National Park or stuff your face with momos in the warren-like streets of Kathmandu's Thamel. Whichever type of  Nepal trip  you choose, we promise you one thing: you’ve never been anywhere like this.

Best time to visit nepal.

Nepal's climate is primarily temperate, with some tropical and alpine regions. From June until August, the monsoon hits, making it too wet and humid for trekking.

The post-monsoon period from September to November is rice-harvesting season and is characterized by lush vegetation, clean air, and excellent mountain views. Days are warm and sunny, although nights become increasingly cool. This is the start of the trekking season, which runs until May.

Winter (December to February) is dry and clear, with temperatures dropping below freezing at high altitudes, although in Kathmandu, it can still sometimes reach a pleasant 77ºF.

Spring (March to May) is warmer and is a particularly beautiful time to visit as the rhododendrons and the orchids are in flower.

Culture and customs

With more than 30 different ethnic groups and a wide range of religions and language dialects, Nepalese society is rich in diversity. With Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, and Mongolian influences, Nepalese food, clothing, customs, and music vary, depending on what area you're traveling in and what ethnicity people belong to or identify with.

Learn more about regional culture on our 15 day Tamang Heritage & Langtang Valley Trek.

Hinduism is the dominant religion, followed by Buddhism. Standing alongside these religions, there are also small populations of people who follow Islam and Christianity. Simultaneously, animist beliefs and belief in spirits are common throughout Nepal, particularly within rural communities.

Like India, the caste system exists in Nepal, as does the custom of arranged marriage. As one of the least urbanized countries in the world, life differs greatly between the rural and city-dwelling populations, with rural people largely living a very simple, traditional life - slow-paced, village-based, in connection to their family and local community. Nepalese people are generally very friendly and welcoming of travelers.

Experience Nepal from a new perspective on our culturally-centred 13 day Nepal Women's Expedition.

Eating and drinking

With Tibetan, Chinese, and Indian influences, Nepalese food is flavorsome without being too spicy, filling without being rich, and reasonably priced for travelers on a budget.

Things to try in Nepal

These fried or steamed dumplings are usually filled with meat or cheese. Comparable to Tibetan momos, kothey are flavoursome snacks that can usually be bought cheaply from street stalls or markets.

Popular with vegetarians and vegans, this lentil soup is usually served with rice and found almost everywhere in Nepal. A safe yet tasty choice for everyone.

This spiced meat curry will usually consist of chicken, buffalo, or mutton, as beef hardly features on the menu in Nepal for religious reasons.

Geography and environment

Landlocked Nepal shares borders with  China  and  India  and is home to a wide range of landscapes and habitats. As much as 75% of Nepal's land is dominated by hills and mountain ranges, including the world's highest mountain, but there's so much more to this region than Everest.

A lot of the country is known as the Terai region, characterized by forests, plains, marshes, and scrub, and within these varied landscapes are the many impressive animal species that inhabit this region. Chitwan National Park is perhaps one of the best places in all of Asia to see its incredible wildlife. Home to a variety of common and protected species, you may be able to spot some exciting house names like the single-horned Asiatic rhinoceros, leopard, and the Bengal Tiger.

History and government

Early history.

Nepal has been inhabited by people for more than 2,500 years, with evidence suggesting tribes of mountain-dwelling people moved to the area from China and other Central Asian regions. Due to a lack of archaeological evidence, little is known about the early periods of history in Nepal, with legend and folklore providing the backdrop to this kingdom of mystery. Ruled early on by the Kirati Dynasty, Nepal continued to be ruled by a succession of dynasties until the Malla Dynasty emerged in the 12th century. During this time, the kingdom expanded rapidly and widely before evolving into small communities with local rule. By the 15th century, many temples and palaces had been built in Nepal, some of which are still in existence either as functioning temples or UNESCO World Heritage sites. The kingdom of Nepal was unified by King Shah in 1768 and went on to sign commercial treaties with Britain in 1792 and 1816 after hostilities with the British East India Company. Visit a relic of Nepal's royal power on our One Week in Nepal Tour.

Recent history

Nepal held its first elections in 1959, but with the king dissolving parliament and banning political parties soon after, Nepal's monarchy retained power. After decades of pro-democracy movements, Nepal was finally declared a democratic republic in 2008, with Nepal's monarchy being removed from power after ruling for more than 240 years. Nepal celebrated its Year of Tourism in 2011, with arrivals increasing year upon year since 2006 due to increased infrastructure, expansion of air travel, and the enduring popularity of the Himalayas and mighty Mount Everest. Learn about Nepal's climbing history at the International Mountain Museum in Pokhara during a Nepal trekking tour.

Indra Jatra

This eight-day festival held in Kathmandu features ceremonies, dancing, and displays of spirituality, but none of these events compare to the spectacle of the third day when Kumari (the living goddess) tours the city streets aboard a chariot. Other popular gods also come out to play and parade, as masked dancers perform in Durbar Square in this exceptional display of local culture.

Mani Rimdu Festival

Offering a rare chance to observe the Sherpa culture of the Everest region, this festival held at Tengboche Monastery features days of meditation cycles, religious ceremonies, masked dances, and parades. Nepal travel faqs, do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travelers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Do I need a visa to travel to Nepal?

All foreign nationals (except Indian passport holders) require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are obtainable from embassies abroad, land borders (including borders with India & Tibet) and on arrival at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan Airport.

Getting a visa at the airport or land borders can sometimes take time due to long queues. There have been instances when travelers are asked to show proof of exit from the country, i.e., flight tickets. You may also need to provide two passport photos and the following fees in US dollars (subject to change, cash only). Other currencies are also accepted, although rates may differ.

This page is for general information only and may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to obtain relevant visa and travel information required for entry, departure and travel to each country or region you visit on your trip. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates.

Is tipping customary in Nepal?

While tipping isn't mandatory in Nepal, it's considered polite to leave service workers in restaurants and cafes a 10% tip if a service charge hasn't already been included in the bill.

What is the internet access like in Nepal?

Travelers will be able to access the internet in large cities like Kathmandu. Smaller towns, isolated areas and rural villages may have limited to no access, so prepare to disconnect when leaving the city.

Cell phone coverage is generally good in urban areas, but can be patchy and less reliable in rural and mountainous areas. Ensure global roaming is activated on your phone before you arrive.

What are the toilets like in Nepal?

Squat toilets are the most common toilets in Nepal. Always carry your own toilet paper and soap or hand sanitizer, as they aren't usually provided.

Nepal's currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). The cost of food and necessities differs depending on your elevation, with Kathmandu being cheaper.

Credit cards are usually accepted by modern hotels, restaurants and medium-large shops in tourist areas. Is Nepal accessible for travelers with disabilities?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely   accessible , regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

Airports are not yet equipped to international accessibility standards and there are few (if any) adapted vehicles available for hire. Only a few high-end hotels have custom built bathrooms i.e. with safety rails or roll in showers. Getting around can be challenging for travelers with disabilities as pedestrians often share the road with vehicles, cities and towns are crowded and streets winding and chaotic. Rickshaws and taxis can be hired easily in Kathmandu, although traffic congestion can be severe. Porters and assistants are readily available for trekking trips. The country is keen to make headway in the accessibility space, with an annual conference on Accessible Tourism being held since 2014 and a shift towards more positive attitudes in the way people with disabilities are perceived in the region. The first “accessible trekking trail” in the country was opened near Pokhara in 2018. Travel companies have arranged custom treks and adventures in Nepal for travelers with disabilities, including on the popular Everest Base Camp route.

Is Nepal a LGBTQIA+ friendly destination?

Everyone should feel comfortable when they travel with Intrepid and we know that many of our travelers are part of the LGBTQI community. It’s important for our travelers to be aware of the local laws and customs in the destinations we visit as some countries have laws that discriminate against LGBTQI people. We recommend you visit  Equaldex  and/or  Smartraveller  before you choose your trip for up-to-date advice and information about LGBTQI-related laws.

Nepal legalized homosexuality in 2007 and implemented protection by law on the basis of sexual orientation the same year. The new constitution of 2015 also contained a number of provisions for the LGBTQI community, including the right to have preferred gender on ID cards and allowance of some gender neutral terms. It is expected that future ratifications of the constitution may include legalization of same-sex marriage. Nepal recognizes a third gender (meti). Nepal Pride is an annual event held in Kathmandu since 2001 and the Nepal Tourism Board is keen to promote the country as an LGBTQI-friendly destination. Despite the openness of the laws, many LGBTQI Nepalis face discrimination and societal pressure for heterosexual marriage, with harassment and violence, particularly for transgender people, not uncommon. For the LGBTQI visitor to Nepal it’s unlikely you will experience any difficulties or hostility. Holding hands with your partner is socially acceptable, but public intimacy is generally frowned upon as Nepal is still quite conservative in this regard.

For more information about LGBTQIA+ culture in Nepal, please visit:

Does my trip to Nepal support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Nepal directly support our foundation partners, Sagarmatha Next and Seven Women.

Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Nepal tours — Top destinations to visit

  • Trek the amazing Everest Base Camp: The trek to Everest Base Camp is one of the world’s most exciting adventures one could have. The Everest Base Camp is situated at the height of 5,364 meters. The 15-day traditional or classic trek is the most popular route starting from Lukla. But you can also start the trek from Jiri or try the more challenging Three Passes route. The best time to trek to the region is from March to May and September to November.
  • Follow the trail to Annapurna Base Camp: The 13-day Annapurna Base Camp trek is less intense than the Everest Base Camp trek but offers equally incredible views of the Himalayan peaks. You will cross ancient kingdoms, breathtaking mountain vistas, stunning glaciers, pristine rivers, and natural hot springs in this trek. September to November is the best season to do this trek. Chances of rain are less, the skies are mostly clear and temperatures are moderate. March to May is also a good time for the trek, but be careful of avalanches.
  • View the wildlife in Chitwan National Park: Nepal’s oldest wildlife sanctuary, Chitwan National Park is home to many wild animals and Unesco World Heritage Site. Discover the Royal Bengal tiger, one-horned rhinoceros and Gharial crocodile on a safari trip. If you are planning to spend multiple days here, you can spend the night in watchtowers called Machans to spot the park’s inhabitants at night.
  • Visit the popular sites in Lumbini: A Unesco World Heritage Site, Lumbini holds immense spiritual importance as it is the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. A large number of Buddhist devotees travel here every year. But even people of different faiths can enjoy the artistic treasures here, including the beautiful stupas, temples and sculptures.
  • Explore the ancient landmarks in Kathmandu: A holiday to Kathmandu valley is bound to be a great one as it has seven UN World Heritage Sites. The Durbar squares in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur will give you a taste of the history, art and culture of the three cities that together make the Kathmandu Valley. The holy sites such as Pashupatinath and Boudhanath are perfect for the religiously inclined. Another famous Buddhist site to visit is the Swayambhunath Stupa or the ‘Monkey Temple,’ which sits atop a hill. From here, you can get a sweeping panorama of the valley.
  • Try adventure sports in Pokhara: Home to many lakes, caves and extensive water system, Pokhara is a haven for nature lovers. Add adventure sports and you have a recipe for an ideal holiday destination. Whether you want to take a stroll around Fewa Lake, visit Peace Pagoda, go on a mountain bike ride or head down a river on a paddle boat, you are bound to have a great time in the lake city.

Popular Nepal trip travel guide

If you are planning a trip to Nepal, you will want to know about the best time to visit Nepal as well as check out all the available Nepal tours. You may also wish to learn more about the top things to do in Nepal . Once you are sure about some of the activities you wish to experience in Nepal, along with the destinations you want to visit , you may want to consider how many days to stay in Nepal . We generally recommend to stay at least 7 days in Nepal , but to get the most out of your trip to Nepal you can stay  10 days in Nepal or more.

Next, we recommend you start thinking about the money you can allocate to the trip to know whether you should be looking for a budget tour, a luxury tour, or perhaps a completely customized tour to Nepal . If you are in doubt, check all our Nepal tours at the top of this page.

Nepal is an amazing country to visit, and there may be other key factors that you wish to consider before traveling there. Please check our “ Nepal travel guide ” which will give you a lot of relevant information about traveling to Nepal.

Tours in Nepal - Questions and Answers

How much you spend in Nepal is largely decided by things you want to do in the country . A 5-day trekking trip in Nepal can start from as little at USD 400 per person. A weekend-long safari in Chitwan National Park is available at less than USD 200.

On average,  seven days in Nepal with accommodation and some or all meals included costs anywhere between USD 700 to USD 1500 per person. Good rooms at  hotels in Nepal range from USD 25 to over USD 150 per person, per night, while around USD 1.5 a day can buy you three meals in decent restaurants.

The best time to visit Nepal is during the months of spring (March, April, and May) as well as in autumn (September, October, and early November) after the monsoon has ended. These months offer the most favorable climate for travelers, with mild temperatures and fewer chances of rainfall. Learn more .

The duration of your Nepal trip is determined by the activities you wish to engage in. For instance, if you plan to go on a hiking trip to the Langtang Valley or Pikey Peak, settling for a seven-day jaunt is enough. But if you are interested in trekking to Everest Base Camp , you will need around two weeks. Likewise, there are other treks available in Nepal , like the Manaslu Circuit trek , that can last as long as three weeks.

Besides the popular treks, including a few days of safari, some cultural sightseeing trips or a yoga retreat to your itinerary will easily bring your Nepal vacation to 3 weeks or more. For more information check out our guide on how many days to spend in Nepal .

Nepal’s visa charges depend on the duration of your stay. If you plan to spend 15 days in the country, expect to pay USD 30 per person. However, a 30-day visit to the country would cost USD 50, while a 90-day visit would set you back by USD 125 per person. Learn more .

There are a few things you should avoid during your stay in Nepal. If you are trekking to the Himalayas , stay clear of any area you have been warned not to visit. These areas may be prone to loose soil due to recent landslides. Also, if you encounter yaks on your trekking trips, steer clear of their paths. These high-altitude animals, averaging 400 kilos, can be hostile at the slightest hint of intimidation.

The Nepalese people are strict with their religion and culture. Do not walk into temples or monasteries without taking off your shoes, and avoid leather jackets, and belts, as these are considered irreverential. Finally, not all Nepalese feel comfortable being embraced or cuddled. However, a ‘namaste’ (a local form of greeting) with a warm smile on your face gets the job done.

You require a passport with at least six months’ validity to enter Nepal. However, travelers of Indian nationality can enter the country by providing a valid Indian ID or an election card.

Nepal is located in Asia, along the southern slopes of the Himalayas. This South Asian country shares its borders with China to the north and India to its south, east, and west.

The most notable highlight of Nepal is the world’s tallest peak, Mount Everest. You can also enjoy long hikes in the Himalayas and indulge in a variety of outdoor sports such as ziplining, canyoning, and rock climbing while in the country. Furthermore, travelers can discover Unesco-listed temples, stupas, and durbar squares in Kathmandu, while enjoying traditional Nepali food . The other must-visit destination that Nepal is known for is Pokhara, a city of lakes and the gateway for those heading out to explore the Annapurna region .

  Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the travel documents required to travel to Nepal from India?

If you are an  Indian citizen then you don’t need VISA to enter Nepal  either by Air OR by Road. But if you are a PIO card holder (Person of Indian Origin) then you must get VISA before entering Nepal in any which way.

For any Indian citizen, voter’s ID card & passport are the only documents that prove your nationality as Indian, the rest of other documents like an  ADHAR card, PAN Card , or any other such cards is  considered as your proof of identity.

So, as the rule says Indian citizens don’t require VISA, so you have to prove that you are an Indian & for this you must carry either voter’s ID Card OR a passport (both in original, xerox copy not accepted).

However, kids of age below 12 years & elders above 65 years are exempted from this rule; they can travel on ADHAR Card provided they are traveling in a group with people who have either voter’s ID cards OR passports. This means if someone travels to Nepal with their kids & parents & these people do not have voter’s ID card OR passport they can enter Nepal on an ADHAR card provided the master passengers have voter’s ID OR passport.

But, we strongly recommend that before booking your flight ticket to Nepal you must re-confirm this with your airline to avoid any last-minute confusion & avoid loss of money.

Passengers are  also required  to carry a printed copy of the online form (International Traveler Online Arrival Form) to be filled by logging in to  https://ccmc.gov.np/

Is Indian rupee accepted in Nepal?

Yes, Indian Currency notes (IC) of denomination Rs 100 & lesser (both new & old) are widely accepted in Nepal. Indian currency notes of  Rs 2000 & Rs 500 are not acceptable  within Nepal, but these currency notes can be tendered at money exchange counters to buy Nepali currency. (Conversion Rate: 1 Indian Rupee (IC) = 1.60 Nepali Rupee (NC)).

Does Indian debit & credit card work in Nepal?

Yes,  debit cards & credit cards issued in India (VISA, Master, Maestro) are accepted at mostly POS (Point of sale) and almost every ATM. But, it is mentioned on the back side of some of these cards “Not for use in Nepal & Bhutan”, so all such cards are not valid for transactions in Nepal.

As a proud Indian, now you  can also use a RuPay Debit card in Nepal,  as Nepal has become the 4th country after Singapore, UAE & Bhutan to accept the use of RuPay cards.

But we recommend you to  use debit OR credit only in case of emergency,  as your bank in India will charge you for every transaction in Nepal & charges varies from bank to bank & type of cards. So, before traveling check with your bank regarding international charges.

Where to exchange money in Nepal?

You can get your Indian Rupee exchanged for Nepali Rupee  at local banks in Nepal  for the best currency exchange value. Another place where you can get the best value is at  currency exchange counters  within the city or  at the Indo-Nepal borders  (in case you are entering by road).  Airports are the worst place for currency exchange  as you will never get the best value for your money, hence we never recommended it.

Can I make WhatsApp call from Nepal to India?

Yes, you can use your Indian WhatsApp number for making & receiving calls in Nepal. You only have to connect your phone with a wi-fi network (available in hotels & airports) OR use your phone data for the same.

You can also use Facebook messenger to make & receive calls in Nepal.

Why Nepal is worth visiting once in a lifetime?

Nepal has numerous reasons which attract tourists. The top 3 reasons are mentioned below.

1)  UNESCO Heritage Sites  : Nepal has 04 UNESCO heritage sites i.e Sagarmatha National Park (Natural Site), Chitwan National Park (Natural Site), Kathmandu Valley (Cultural Site) & Lumbini (Cultural Site).

2)  Popular Hindu Pilgrimage Sites  : Important Hindu pilgrimage sites like Pashupatinath temple (Lord Shiva), Muktinath Temple (Lord Vishnu) & Janakpur (Goddess Sita Temple).

3)  Paradise for adventure lovers  : Nepal is considered a paradise for adventure lovers. Popular activities are Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, River Rafting, Bungy Jumping, Paragliding, Ultralight Flight & Hot Air ballooning, Trekking & Jungle Safari.

Apart from this Nepal has numerous natural scenic site like Pokhara, Bandipur, Tansen, Nagarkote, Dharan & Daman.

Does Indian SIM work in Nepal?

Yes  Indian SIM works in Nepal if before travel you have activated  international roaming on your number  from your service provider. You can make use of your Indian number to make & receive calls from Nepal. Calling charges & data depends on the type of pack provided by your mobile operator, so check it before activating.

We recommend you  buy a local Nepali SIM  (which costs around INR 200) when you are in Nepal & use this Nepali number to make calls out of Nepal, because in some cases even after activating your international roaming, calling charges may be very high, whereas  calling from Nepal to   India   using Nepali SIM is as low as   INR2.50/minute  (charges may vary from operator to operator).

Is Nepal safe for Indian tourists?

Yes, Nepal is a tourist-friendly nation, its law & order are very supportive of tourists. Nepal truly believes in the concept of “Atithi Devo Bhav – Guest is God”. Being an Indian citizen you can connect to Indian Embassy in Kathmandu & immigration offices at the Indo-Nepal border for any assistance.

Expert Picks: Masters Tournament

Expert Picks

Change Text Size

How it works: Each week, our experts from PGATOUR.COM will make their selections in PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf. Each lineup consists of four starters and two bench players that can be rotated after each round. Adding to the challenge is that every golfer can be used only three times per each of four Segments.

Aside from the experts below, Golfbet Insider Rob Bolton breaks down the field at the Masters Tournament in this week's edition of Power Rankings .

Betting picks

WILL GRAY (Lead, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Scottie Scheffler (+400) – It’s not sexy, but I’ve spent too much time trying to rationalize a pick on someone else. At the end of the day, Scheffler was red-hot heading into his 2022 Masters triumph – and he’s playing materially better this time around.
  • Top 10: Ludvig Åberg (+225) – We all know the trends against first-time winners, but they don’t apply to the finish markets. Åberg led the Valero field in SG: Tee-to-Green last week and has all the skills required to contend in his major championship debut.
  • Longshot: Russell Henley (+6000) – The former Georgia Bulldog finished T4 here a year ago and has been known to heat up on the greens from time to time. Two top-5s in his last three starts show signs of promise.
  • H2H: Chris Kirk (-120) over Keegan Bradley – There aren’t a ton of course comps for Augusta National, but there are some undeniable parallels with the terrain of Kapalua. Expect the Sentry champ to play well, having finished T23 here last year, while Bradley has missed three of four cuts entering the week.

BEN EVERILL (Senior writer, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Xander Schauffele (+1600) – Look, we all know Scheffler has the chance to take this tournament and run with it but my process of elimination story brought me a winner last year and I’m banking it can do it again. Schauffele is ready to contend again… and you have to be knocking on the door to eventually be let in. Back off my blacklist and into the furnace!
  • Top 10: Sahith Theegala (+320) – I really like Theegala as an outright option here over the next few years. T9 a year ago with a hot finish and another year wiser to his game. He still has more foul balls off the tee than I’d like but if he can get away with those this week he’s a chance.
  • Longshot: Jason Day +6600 – Longshots don’t win the Masters and my campaign to move the threshold to +4000 this week fell on deaf ears (Zalatoris, Finau, Smith…). But how can I not plump for the man who – in his prime – had me declaring he’d win two green jackets in his lifetime? Multiple chances in the past… why not another.
  • Head to Head: Shane Lowry (-110) over Collin Morikawa – Lowry’s Tee-to-Green game has been good of late whereas Morikawa is in a ball-striking slump compared to his usual high standards. This is as much a Morikawa fade as anything else.

CHRIS BREECE (Senior Content Manager Golfbet)

  • Winner: Scottie Scheffler (+400) – I’ll be that guy. My three finalists were him, Spieth and Schauffele. It came down to who I trusted most to win. And it’s not even close.
  • Top 10: Matt Fitzpatrick (+275) – I’m staying patient and not backing off my support of him. He had the best weekend of anyone in San Antonio and I still feel like he has great golf ahead of him.
  • Longshot: Max Homa (+5500) – I know what you’re thinking. However, name me a player with more talent/star power whose odds are above +5000.
  • H2H: Shane Lowry (-110) over Collin Morikawa – I almost picked Lowry for the top 10. Generally plays well here and has been in good form.

MATT DELVECCHIO (Social content manager, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Will Zalatoris (+4000) – Beware the hungry dog runs faster. It’s comeback time for the previous major runner-up. He’s come back to good form from his back surgery with a three-game stretch of T13, T2 and T4 earlier in the year. He played with Tiger on Monday and saw how great he looked recovering from his own surgery. Will even talked about the influence Tiger's comeback has had on his own journey. People are sleeping on Zalatoris' comeback because of his MC at THE PLAYERS and T74 in Houston. Augusta will bring something out of him. Zalatoris is ready to be among the top players in the world and will show it this week.
  • Top 10: Bryson DeChambeau (+300) – It’s been four years since he called Augusta National a par 67. He is older and wiser now to say such a thing. DeChambeau's game fits Augusta well and I see him taking a big charge at this championship in a quest to become a two-time major champion.
  • Longshot: Sam Burns (+5500) – The only reason I’m taking him here is that I’ve liked him to win for the past couple of months now and he hasn’t. A wise man once said, “if you like a player to win soon, more likely than not they will”.
  • H2H: Lowry (-110) over Morikawa – Collin’s game is a mystery this year. Most alarming has been his iron play which in past years has been seen as unstoppable. Combo that with the fact that Lowry does like Augusta and is in relatively good form as of late. I’ll take the current form over past success.
