Kayaking on Lake Powell
Lake Powell is one of the largest artificial lakes in the United States, with over 2,000 miles of shoreline to explore. Our kayak rental Lake Powell and the tour will take you to some of the most scenic spots on the lake, including hidden coves, towering rock formations, and sandy beaches. You'll have plenty of time to relax, swim, and soak up the sun. In 1963, the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam created Lake Powell, located on the Colorado River. The dam is one of the most significant concrete structures in the world, standing at 710 feet tall. Lake Powell is also one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States, with a surface area of 162,700 acres and a maximum depth of 560 feet. The lake receives water from the Colorado River and several other smaller tributaries, and people use it for irrigation, drinking water, and hydroelectric power.
Glen Canyon Dam
The Glen Canyon Dam is an engineering marvel providing power to millions across the Southwest. The dam is open for tours; visitors can learn about its history and construction. You can also take a guided tour of the power plant and see how the dam generates electricity.
Lake Powell Water Temperature
During the summer, Lake Powell's water temperature can reach 80 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the perfect place to cool off on a hot day. However, taking precautions and wearing appropriate clothing and sun protection is essential, as the sun can be intense in the desert climate. Water temperature fluctuates throughout the year, so ask your guide or contact us directly with questions.

Lake Powell Water Level Report
The water level of Lake Powell is presently at a historic low. However, in 2023, we expect a considerable summer runoff from the Rockies, but in the meantime, let us enjoy the currently exposed, long-forgotten, and previously hidden body of water that is temporarily available for us to enjoy. This unprecedented low water level has resulted in longer slot canyons for hiking and taller canyon walls, making Lake Powell an even more remarkable experience for paddle-boarders and kayakers. Despite the altered launch areas, Lake Powell remains incredibly accessible for kayaks, paddle boards, and boats. Additionally, due to the closure of boat ramps, there is less motorboat traffic on the lake, making it an even better paddle experience. We offer hassle-free rentals, including setup, delivery, and pickup for you and your friends. So why wait? Make your way to Lake Powell today!

We will use double kayaks on all trips.

During July through mid-September, the possibility of flash floods exists. If morning rain is in the forecast, which is generally very uncommon, the guide may shorten hiking the Antelope Canyon portion of the tour for safety reasons.
There are simple bathroom facilities in the parking lot. Dry Bags are available for rent upon availability.
Our kayak Antelope Canyon tour includes all equipment.

"Best kayaking option on the Arizona lakes! My family of 4 (4 and 12 year old boys) spent the morning on Lake Pleasant this weekend with Desert Breeze Kayaking and it was everything we had hoped for and more. From the first time I called to schedule they were readily available, willing to take the time to help me find the right option for us (private tour) and even after booking they called on two occasions to make sure everything went well for our family. We explored parts of the lake we never would have found on our own, learned about the history of the areas surrounding the lake, wildlife and by the end of the morning it felt like we were spending time with old friends. Without a question we will be back, I would give them 10 stars if it existed!"

More about the Verde River: The Verde River is a perennial river running freely for 170 miles (274 km) through private, state, tribal and US Forest Service lands before reaching the confluence of the Salt River. The river source is Sullivan Lake near Chino Valley, AZ and also snowmelt from the 3 surrounding forests. The Verde River is a special resource, as recognized by the U.S. Congress in 1984 when 40.5 miles of it was designated as a Wild and Scenic River program. It is steeped in history, going back to the Sinagua Natives. The Real London Bridge Is In Arizona, And This Is How It Was Moved It To America
- The original London Bridge is in Arizona, where it attracts tourists to Lake Havasu City.
- Built in 1830, it couldn't handle modern traffic, leading to its sale and relocation.
- Iconic parts like lampposts are original, but the bridge's structure is now a steel frame for strength.
If London Bridge was to fall down again, it would not fall into the Thames River of London, but rather in Lake Havasu City in Arizona on the Colorado River. As crazy as that sounds, it's true! The bridge was originally built in the 1830s to span the River Thames, which cuts through London in England. Today, London, England has many bridges to explore , but not the original London Bridge.
That bridge was removed and shipped over to Arizona, of all places. Here's what to know about this tourist attraction today, and how to visit the "real" London Bridge in Arizona.
UPDATE: 2024/04/27 15:21 EST BY ERYNN RUIZ
This feature has been updated with more images of the historic London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, information on what to explore and do there, and insights into what it's like to visit one of the most Insta-worthy bridges in the U.S.
About The London Bridge (In Arizona)
The original london bridge was sold to a developer in arizona.
In 1968, the iconic London Bridge was purchased by Robert P. McCulloch from the City of London. The London Bridge was then disassembled and shipped off to Arizona, where McCulloch reassembled it.
McCulloch was a real estate developer and an entrepreneur who thought the bridge would be a great way to attract both tourists and retirement home buyers to his properties.
Today, instead of linking the two halves of London, the London Bridge links an island on the Colorado River with the main part of Lake Havasu City, one of the best places to cool off during a scorching AZ summer .
- Date Built: 1830s
- Date Purchased: 1968
- Date Completed: Completed In Arizona With Its Canal In 1971
Built in the 1830s, by 1962 it was no longer sturdy enough to carry the ever-increasing loads of traffic and so London was in need of a new and stronger bridge. The last thing they wanted was for the London Bridge to fall down.
In fact, due to the weight of automobile traffic crossing, the London Bridge was sinking into the River Thames at a rate of an inch every eight years . By 1924, the east end of the London Bridge was three or four inches lower than the west side.
- Why London Sold The Bridge: It couldn't bear the load of modern traffic
After he installed the bridge, land sales improved and McCulloch managed to recover all of his expenses of buying, shipping, and reconstructing the bridge. He had actually obtained the land at no cost and so it wasn't hard for the sale of the land to pay for the bridge.
- Cost Of The Bridge: $2.5 million (paid to the city of London)
- Cost Of Shipping And Reassembly: $7 million
- Time To Complete: Three years
- Myth: There is an urban myth that Mccullock thought he was buying the much more iconic Tower Bridge, but he always denied that and there is no proof
Today, the London Bridge has become one of Arizona's greatest tourist attractions, according to Go Lake Havasu , it is the state's second-largest attraction.
The London Bridge's Iconic Lampposts Are Original
Some parts of the london bridge have been updated.
One of Arizona's most impressive landmarks , the London Bridge retains many of its original architectural influences.
Fortunately, the purchase of the bridge included its iconic and ornate lampposts. These were made from melted-down cannons that the British captured from the defeated Napoleanic army at the climatic and decisive Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The British have been celebrating that victory ever since.
Visiting the bridge today, the ornate former French cannons-turned-lampposts are a major part of the London Bridge.
When the bridge was dismantled for transport, its 10,276 exterior granite blocks were individually numbered for reassembly.
While care was taken to reassemble the bridge accurately, it's not all original.
Today, the inside of the bridge is hollow as it was rebuilt with a steel frame. This had the effect of both massively cutting its weight down from 130,000 tons to 30,000 tons, which strengthened the bridge so that today it can handle the car traffic without any problems. The channel underneath the bridge was dredged.
Take A London Bridge Historic Walking Tour
London bridge walking tours are free and self-guided.
Today anyone can easily visit the London Bridge and kayak underneath it. But for those who really want to bring the past to life and learn about the history of this unusual iconic bridge, then consider a walking tour of the bridge.
- Season: The visitor information center and bridge are open year around
There are guided group tours for groups of 10–24 persons. The tours cover around half a mile on foot and take around 90 minutes. This includes climbing the 51 stairs to the top of the bridge. The tours are conducted with wireless technology for convenience.
How To See The Lake Havasu Lighthouses (& Why They're There)
- Season: Guided group tours are from October to April
- Length of Time: About 90 minutes
While it's not quite the same as experiencing the actual bridge in London, a trip to the Lake Havasu City London Bridge is worth the experience. Plus, Lake Havasu City has plenty more to explore when you're done checking out the bridge.

Lower Salt River Adventure Tours & Rentals
COVID-19 Updates: We have made some modifications to our guided tours and rentals to keep our guides and participants safe and healthy. Find out more.
Despite its reputation as an arid, desert state, one of the best ways to enjoy Arizona’s natural beauty is by visiting the Lower Salt River. This Arizona river provides life to the abundance of plants and animals that inhabit the Sonoran Desert. Located just a short drive from the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, the Lower Salt River offers a variety of fun outdoor activities including opportunities to kayak, river raft, and stand up paddle board. Despite its name, the Salt River is actually a freshwater river and the largest tributary of the Gila River which also runs nearby to the Phoenix metro area. Rivers in the desert are indispensable and an unexpected relief from warm temperatures. The Lower Salt River is a popular place for Arizona residents to cool off during the hot summer months, so the best time to go kayaking or rafting is typically on a weekday in the early morning when the wildlife viewing is best and there are few visitors. Because the river is dam controlled, we are able to offer river tours year-round though the water can be chilly during the winter months.
