Daelyn was great! Loved the tour!

Fantastic storyteller! Really enjoyed the tour.

Our guide was great - BUT - it was very warm and there was a motorcycle convention in town. Eeek! The roar of the engines competed with our guide which was tough. Loved the history lesson and learning about my adopted city.

We've been on a ton of ghost walks and tours in over a dozen cities/states including Honolulu, Gettysburg and Salem, MA. My family and I felt like today's tour with Monica as our guide was one of the best. Her ability to weave a story accompanied by pictures, EVPs, and her passion for telling the truth behind the stories was unmatched. We were mesmerized and my niece and nephew (10 and 9 years old) were really into it. This is a must-do tour. And, the $10 to buy Monica's book was totally worth it. Thank you to Monica and Austin Ghost Tours. P.S. Make sure you are signing up for the original Austin Ghost Tours company. The others in the area are just corporate- and they don't care about the history of Austin like this company clearly does.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review! It's true Monica and all of us at the Original Austin Ghost Tours truly believe in ghosts, and we know they want their true stories told. Also, thank you for mentioning that several franchise ghost and hearse tours are using our name to confuse customers. That's why we only sell tickets through our website. It's good to hear about our comrades' ghost tours around America.

I know, I know. I can't believe I went on a ghost tour, but if you're reading this, you're probably interested in one too. We met in front of the Driskill (yes, that's how they spell it) Hotel. Maverick was our tour guide, and he was pretty knowledgeable about all the different places in Austin. He even wrote a book about it which you can buy on Amazon for $15 or from him for $10. I took the tour a couple weeks ago and still haven't read it. Sorry, Maverick! It wasn't really a planed tour which I didn't really like. He just gave us choices and asked us where we wanted to go. It turned out fine, but I wished he had some type of itinerary. We ended the night at a haunted bar. It was a great way to end, but if you're more interested in actually seeing ghosts or "feeling" them like the ad implies, this is not the tour for you. If it's a tour of haunted Austin that you want, then this is it.

This is a great review! Very helpful. I will change the description to ask customers what kind of tour are they interested in and therefore match them with the best guide. Our guides are all knowledgeable with different styles.

The personalized tour of downtown and the spirits that may join us from time to time was awesome! Masey (sorry if I misspelled your name) was so animated and descriptive with all of her entertaining stories. Highly recommend Nightly Spirits!!

My husband and I love good ghost tours and ghost investigations. We opt for private because we are traveling with a little one. I have had the pleasure of doing them coast to coast and in the UK. We have taken her for overnights in Jerome and Virginia City. My daughter is an only child and just an all around good kid. I strap her on my back and she falls asleep. Anywho I messaged the company via Facebook to get the all clear and the response was "Yikes! Three hours is a bit long for a five year old." If you aren't okay with little people on the hunt I totally get it. She's an unusual kid with parents who have an unusual interest. However, The "yikes" felt like an attack on my parenting skills. We have done the Austin walking tour and they were very accommodating.

Yikes!

Sorry for the late comment, and sorry the word "yikes "offended you as a parent.

Mav was an amazing tour guide made our experience so much fun! Very glad we were able to get a great amount of Austin history both about ghosts and the interesting history!

Thank you for taking the only local tour company in Austin. The Mav has been giving tours for 21 years. Now thats scary!

Second time visiting Austin and wanted to do something unique to what we usually do on vacations! We booked this tour kind of last minute and had no idea what to expect. Our tour guide Monica was AMAZING! She's so lively and you can def tell that she knows her stuff and isn't just acting our a script. She is truly passionate about this and love that she even wrote a book on ghosts of the Driskill hotel. Great experience- thank you Monica!

Sending this to Monica. Thank you for taking the time to respond! Sorry for that late response. I seem to not be getting notifications about reviews.

0/10 rented them the one night we were in Austin. Waited 45 minutes. Never answered any calls. 10 people waiting for a tour that never happened. Bullshit company that wants to waste everyone's time. Not sure if it's even a real company . Compete scam.

I feel your pain. That was definitely not the Original and Real Austin Ghost Tours. There are 3 Ghost franchise tour company's using our name. They sell through third-party platforms, and they didn't just waste your time they made good money for nothing. It's a national trend its happening in every city.

Photo of Hannah D.

I was part of a tour group that was set up by a conference I was attending, Monica was our tour guide. It was a great tour Monica was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the area and the crimes that took place! Would recommend

Just now seeing this! You were all great to work with. Monica put together many of our best true crime mysteries in Austin for your group. Thank for the review!

Photo of Niki L.

A must if you're visiting Austin! Monica was our tour guide and she was absolutely phenomenal-- her passion for history and the paranormal is contagious, as is her sense of humor. I love that she included the use of a couple of ghost hunting gadgets. We picked up a lot of activity, which added to the fun and excitement of the tour. She also brought along historical photos of what the buildings used to look like outside and in, as well as snapshots of apparitions that have manifested within the haunted locations.

We do bring equipment to discover if any ghosts are with us (free, of course). Ghosts in Austin or the ghosts we bring with us. Many people have a loved one they bring with them. Sorry for the late review. Just now seeing this. And thank you for taking the time to write this comment.

Photo of Marianne C.

It was a hot in humid night but what do you expect in Texas when it's June. Regardless of the temperature,, Monica, our tour guide, and the author of True Haunted Tales of the Driskill Hotel was dressed on point to play the part. We met at the oldest establishment in Austin and ended the tour at the same corner. It felt like out of the other historic tours I've been this one has the most walking or maybe the heat exhaustion was just setting in. Either way, I did enjoy this part of my impromptu trip to Austin. Monica is very knowledgeable the historic stops. She's very funny too! Check them out when you are in town to learn more about the historic background of Austin.

Traveler Reviews

We live in Austin and my niece wanted to do this tour for her birthday. It was definitely a new experience for us and not the same normal day to day stuff we usually do so it was very exciting. She just turned 15 and she enjoyed it as well as all of the other family members (mid thirties) so I would say fun for the whole group. Tyler was our tour guide and we loved him. It was a good mix of history and education while still being quite fun and enjoyable. We would definitely go again!

The walking tour was very informative and easy to do. Me and my boyfriend loved getting to hear from Tyler all the history of Austin. You can tell he does a lot of research into the stories he tells. In the past he has had people who work at some of the places we stopped and has included their stories as well. We stopped at the Speakeasy, the Paramount, the Driskill and a couple of other places along Congress avenue. I do appreciate his love of Austin. Tyler will answer non-haunted questions and point you into the direction of a book, podcast or another tour if you want to hear the stories he told elaborated. I think this walking tour would be good for anybody at any level of activity.

Although it was super hot the night we went, there were a couple stops inside to help cool down. It would have been nice for one of the stops to have cool drink available. Our guide was a wonderful woman with Halloween tattoos. She was very personable & spoke loud enough to be heard even when outside. She provided great details in the tour & her enthusiasm for the hauntings was nice.

Great storytelling and attention to detail. Perfect to know Austin's downtown and its dark secrets.

All parts of the tour were interesting! Especially enjoyed learning about what happened in the Driscoll, the Paramount, and the Speakeasy. Alyssa was a well informed and engaging guide.

Learning the spooky history of Austin was really cool. Our guide was really awesome and knowledgeable of the history. Would definitely recommend this tour and would love to take other tours offered!

It was so nice to walk around and hear stories inside the Driskill hotel. The tour guide was so informative and knowledgeable.

Our tour guide William was very passionate and knowledgeable. I have lived in Austin for 20 years and I enjoyed learning more about the history and stories behind these iconic places.

Alissa was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We saw some great sights and heard about some fun ghosts! I’d recommend to anyone who likes ghost stories and wants to see some of Austin!

We had a great time. Our 15 year old son had fun. It’s a fun tour with a lot of interesting stories. I recommend it for an evening adventure.
