Splashin' Safari: A Great Water Park That's Free

At Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana

holiday world and splashin safari hours

Splashin' Safari is one of the biggest and best water parks in the nation. And it's free.

Well, sort of free. It's included with admission to Holiday World , the holiday-themed park adjacent to Splashin' Safari. Since it is not a standalone water park, it makes the fact that is among the country’s largest and finest water parks all the more impressive. (If you are planning a visit, be sure to bring dry clothes to enjoy Holiday World's incredible coasters and other attractions; likewise, folks planning to visit Holiday World should remember to pack a bathing suit.) Splashin' Safari easily makes the list of the best water parks at theme parks .

The theme is African (that's the "Safari" part), hence the silly ride names. The schizophrenic park also has a California theme (that's the "Splashin' " part we guess) and plays Beach Boys and other surf tunes over the loudspeakers.

Splashin’ Safari’s Slides and Attractions

The park is so big it has not one, not two, but three water coasters . And not just any water coasters, but the world's longest.

When the approximately 1/3-mile-long Wildebeest opened in 2010, it captured the title. It uses linear induction motors to propel its rafts uphill. Wildebeest reaches a top speed of around 25 mph, includes two tunnels (a Holiday World staple on its dry coasters), and lasts two minutes and 30 seconds. In 2012,  Splashin' Safari opened Mammoth and broke its own record. The newer water coaster exceeds Wildebeest by about 50 feet in length. It, too, uses linear induction motors and offers a thrilling ride.

The towering 102-foot tall ZOOMbabwe, among the world's tallest enclosed water slides, is another one of the park's featured rides and is a real winner. Riders experience much of its ride in the dark. Other attractions included Bakuli, a bowl ride, the Jungle Racer mat racing slide, and the Zinga funnel ride .

In 2018, Splashin' Safari expanded with the addition of attractions designed for younger visitors. Tembo Falls is a water slide complex with eight slides geared to kiddos, including a mini-bowl ride, two racing slides, a helix, and twisters. The park also added Tembo Tides, a junior wave pool.

Tembo Tides increased the total number of wave pools to three. With two lazy rivers two interactive water play structures, and a slew of other things to do, the attractions can accommodate a lot of guests. With its enormous capacity, the park generally doesn't feel out-of-control crowded, even on busy, hot days.

What’s New at Splashin’ Safari?

In 2020, the water park introduced its third water coaster, Cheetah Chase. Holiday World is billing it as the “world’s first launched water coaster.” Since no water coasters include lift hills (that we know of) and use water jets, electromagnetic motors, or fast moving conveyor belts to accelerate their rafts, all of them are “launched.” What makes Cheetah Chase unique is that side-by-side rafts are launched along a flat section of the flume after which they race against one another. Passengers experience two "flying saucer” elements that generate strong G-forces and pivot the rafts around.

More Free Stuff

The family-owned park has an almost religious devotion to customer satisfaction. The grounds are spotless, the prices are reasonable, and the ride ops and other staff are unfailingly polite and cheerful.

While other parks seem intent on wringing every last cent out of their guests, get a load of what Splashin' Safari and Holiday World include at no extra charge: free parking, complimentary inner tubes, unlimited free beverages (including soft drinks, coffee, and tea), and free sunscreen. Now, that's what we call putting customers first.

What’s to Eat?

The food is decent at the park. Within Splashin' Safari, the choices include Wildebeestro, which features burgers and salads, Jungle Jake‘s, which offers wings and chicken tenders, Safari Pizza, and Sam’s BBQ. For sweets and snacks, there’s Safari Ice Cream and Bahari Snacks, which has funnel cakes and corn dog bites.

For a good pick beyond the water park, consider Plymouth Rock Cafe. The indoor dining spot has roast turkey, beef brisket, roasted chicken and other entrees on the menu, as well as fixing such as sweet potato casserole, cinnamon apples, and mac & cheese. Another good place is Santa’s Merry Marketplace, which offers pizza, burgers, deli sandwiches, and desserts such as Blueberry Flapjack Cake.

Admission Policy, Operating Schedule, Hotel Info, and Location:

Splashin' Safari is included with general admission to Holiday World. The combined parks offer reduced prices for children (under 54") and seniors (60+). Ages 2 and under are free. Multi-day passes and next-day passes are available. Season passes and group rates are available. Special promotions and discounted tickets may be available online at the park's Web site . Parking is free. Private cabanas are available to rent.

Weather permitting, Splashin' Safari is open mid-May through mid-September. Holiday World is open early May through late October. (Oddly, the Christmas-themed park does not remain open through the holiday season.)

Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort is located next to Holiday World and operated by the same family. There are other lodging options nearby.

Splashin' Safari and Holiday World is located at 452 E. Christmas Blvd. in Santa Claus, Indiana. (Yes, that is the real name of the town.) From I-64: Take Exit 63. Go south on Highway 162 for 7 miles, until 162 comes to a "T." Turn right and head up the hill to the park.

For a regional amusement park, Holiday World has a great variety of rides. There are some intense looking coasters for thrill seekers, but we steered clear of them. Our littles prefer milder rides, like the bumper cars and Gobbler Getaway. To be sure, this isn't Universal Studios, but it does the trick. We especially enjoyed the Halloween drone show at night. Very cool! Our biggest beef had to do with the lack of efficiency throughout the park. Lines moved slowly, whether for rides or food, due to poor line management and layout. Overall, Holiday World is worth the price, *if* you can get a hefty discount. We scored 50% off. But it's definitely not worth full price.

We visited Holiday World twice in 2023. The first time was Memorial Day and second time was Labor Day. Both times the park was clean, well maintained, and staff was friendly. Free parking, drinks, and sunscreen are nice perks. They allow bags, wagons, and outside food. I highly recommend bringing your own food. At peak meal times, food lines are long and portions are small for the price. There is a gluten free snack shack with a variety of GF options. Lines were not bad in the water park, about 30 minute wait for popular water coasters. The water coasters are awesome and the only ones I've seen (we've been to most US amusement/water parks). On these hot sunny days, the lines in the amusement park were short while the water park was open. The Thunderbird is a fantastic roller coaster, shooting you to 60 mph in seconds. The wooden coasters are huge and well maintained. I really don't have any suggestions for improvement.

Holiday World is where I was jolted on The Voyage and forced into roller coaster retirement until the end of time but I'll never hold it against them. I'm a born and raised Hooiser but had never been to Holiday World! I had always heard about it so was jazzed to check it out. We went for the first time last year and plan to return for many years to come! What's not to love? The holidays are just so cute and thoughtful! They have Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and 4th of July. Each with themed rides! From the music to the flowers - they truly make each holiday feel unique and special! They have both rollercoasters and a giant water park! Complimentary soft drinks and sunscreen included in you ticket. You'll make an investment for the day with tickets being about $60 per person but it's well worth it! First responders get a significant discount! Pro tip: eat a thanksgiving meal! They have turkey and all the sides!

With the invitation of my sister, I travelled two hours to visit this park. Pros: parking and soft drinks were free. Cons: wait time for popular attractions and the need to maintenance them. The maintenance added 30 more minutes to allotted wait time. Also, some patrons opted to skip the line and enter through the exit and were able to cut ahead of others. I was able to complete four events before it began to rain around 7pm. Subsequently, the park was closed shortly thereafter.

First time here, didn't know what to expect. I know they call it a wooden rollercoaster , you can see wood on the sides of the loading and unloading area, someone said to me that it wasn't really scary at all. I said OK ! I'll try it my first time here and first ride ever. /-- /---/ I'm glad I made it off Alive ! I'm glad I tried it off of a lie !!!! But I will never try it again ! Super fun! But not for me anymore.

Super fun and I'm so glad I got to experience a water slide that propelled you uphill for a more down hill ride

Let me tell you, Holiday World is a whole vibe. For some reason we thought we could conquer the whole park in one day, ha! It has 4 holiday parts: Christmas, 4th of July, Halloween and Thanksgiving. On top of that, it has an entire water park full of rides. It has some really cool perks I haven't seen elsewhere as well: free sunscreen and assorted soft drinks all day every day. The park was also really well maintained. Us three managed 3 rides, the wave pool and 2 kiddie pools and we were exhausted. The Mammoth ride (water raft coaster) was by far the favorite and coolest water park ride we've ever done. We enjoyed our day! I recommend it if you find yourself in Indiana. Go with the Greenleafs

I've been going to Holiday World for as long as I can remember, and it's a true Indiana gem. They put the theme in theme park. Free drinks on a hot day is honestly an experience-making offer. The Mammoth Water Coaster was the highlight ride of the day.

I grew up coming to Holiday World and it's a true testament to Hoosier Hospitality. Yes ,the park is kind of in the middle of nowhere but it works. They have free parking when you get there, free soft drinks and free sunscreen! All the staff were so friendly. We came with our church youth group this visit and we had somehow left our tickets behind but they allowed us to fill out a waiver and then we get to send in our tickets by mail. I saw plenty of staff cleaning throughout the day and they always had a smile on their face. The park is laid out in holiday sections: Halloween, Christmas, Fourth of July and Thanksgiving. Then splashin safari is to the back of the park. You can cover some serious walking ground throughout the day. The food is a little higher price than restaurants but it is tasty and fast. We ate at Jungle Jakes in splashin safari and were surprised by the quality and the vegetarian options. Overall this is a place that I will keep returning to year after year.

Thanks so much for coming to see us and your kind words. We can't wait to have you back!

Free parking- Free fountain drinks (including water) w/cups- Free sunscreen (Australian Gold)- Attentive staff- Holiday themed rides, games & eateries- The attraction selections are plenty but mind the height restrictions & line waiting. We waited in line twice for the Watubee the second time was longer than the first time. ( approximately 30 mins or more) when waiting with children makes it seems longer for 2 mins of a slide. Most of the rides kiddo would have liked to ride were closed the day we went. There were long lines at some of the popular attractions & but others weren't long at all that we were able to just walk on them multiple times. The park was overall fairly clean, well stocked & some staff were friendly & helpful. Be expected to go a lot of walking & if you plans ahead & map our which attractions you want to visit, it makes it easier to know where you're going. Holiday world website has plenty of helpful tip & info as well, like they are completely cashless, all vendors & games, etc are 100% cashless. They do have machines/atm to convert your cash into card on site. A couple things we did notice is that not all bathrooms are touchless most are have the outdated sinks & hand dryer but they function fine. Also, they have a lot of staff focused on safety & sanitation, there were some vendors that were one maned & tend to get backed up. Once again not a negative just be aware that it's possible for a wait in service at certain locations. But come to find out there was power outages during the day, so holiday world is letting us come back! Which is awesome!

Photo of Jesse H.

A place for family fun! One of the things I liked is the free Pepsi and sun screen. As I rode on the rented scooter, which was priced fairly, I was able to watch a lot that went on. One of the things I wish they did differently is to understand that many come from the eastern time zone. It would be nice to see more of the food kiosks open earlier. That is more only criticism, and it isn't that much of a big deal. Everything else proved why this is a good and considering other parts a good money deal for family trip.

Holiday World is the world's first theme park and offers dozens of exciting rides and thrilling roller coasters, including The Raven, The Legend, and The Voyage, as well as Thunderbird – a Bolliger & Mabillard launched Wing Coaster – in addition to The Howler. Photo: Holiday World, Santa Claus, Indian.

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari – previously known as Santa Claus Land prior to 1984 – is a combination theme park and water park located in Santa Claus, Indiana, divided into four sections that celebrate Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July with rides, live entertainment, games, and attractions.

Splashin’ Safari was named the Best Waterpark in the United States by USA Today, the world’s #2 water park chosen by the readers of Amusement Today for four consecutive years (2002 to 2005), and the World’s #1 Cleanest Theme Park by Amusement Today magazine in 2015.

Splashin’ Safari features numerous family raft rides, two wave pools, plus water activities for children. The waterpark’s flagship attractions are two water coasters – Mammoth and Wildebeest – as well as ZOOMbabwe – an eight-story, 336-foot long slide – or Bakuli, a 73 foot-tall, 325 foot-long enclosed slide featuring a splashdown into a 60-foot diameter bowl. And for those looking for a more sedate water park experience, they can find it in the form of Tempo Tides, a 3,000 square-foot gentle wave pool.

Holiday World is the world’s first theme park and offers dozens of exciting rides and thrilling roller coasters, including The Raven, The Legend, and The Voyage, as well as Thunderbird – a Bolliger & Mabillard launched Wing Coaster – in addition to The Howler. The safari-themed water park includes the world’s two longest water coasters – Wildebeest and Guinness World Record Holder Mammoth – as well as a launched dueling water coaster named Cheetah Chase, numerous family raft rides and water slides, two wave pools, a junior-sized wave pool, two children’s-sized water slide areas, and a lazy river.

With all kinds of live entertainment, visits with Santa, shopping, and skill games, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari offer loads of family fun all summer long. Both parks offer guests free soft drinks, free parking, free inner tube usage, free sunscreen and free Wi-Fi. Plus an online benefit program allows guests to “print and go” so they have their ticket in hand when they get to Holiday World with no waiting in line to purchase tickets.

The Ultimate Guide to Holiday World and Splashin Safari

Believe it or not, Santa Claus, Indiana is a real place. Not only is it a real place, it’s home to one of the coolest theme parks around, Holiday World. If you’ve never visited Holiday World, consider planning a trip. It’s a little off the beaten path, but it’s one of the cleanest, friendliest theme parks I’ve ever been to. Check out more in this ultimate guide to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana.

Ultimate Guide to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana

In 2017, my family was invited to the small town of Santa Claus, Indiana to experience their main attraction, Holiday World . While they covered a majority of our expenses on our trip in 2017, I plan on sharing my honest opinions with you about our time there. I’ll share with you what to ride, what to eat, and where to say in this ultimate Guide to Holiday World.

The History of Holiday World

Back in the 1940s, Holiday World was known as Santa Claus Land. It consisted of a toy shop, toy displays, a restaurant, themed children’s rides, and, of course, meet and greets with Santa. In the 1980s, it began to expand and include other holidays, like Halloween and the 4th of July, and changed its name to Holiday World.

Entrance plaza of Holiday World and Splashin' Safari

1993 saw the addition of Splashin Safari water park, and the Thanksgiving area was added to Holiday World in 2006. In 2016, Holiday World celebrated its 70th birthday. Today, it encompasses four themed areas, two full theme parks, and over 125 acres of land.

How to Get to Holiday World

First, you’ll need to know how to get to Holiday World. A good old fashioned road trip is the best bet for getting to Santa Claus, Indiana. It’s five to six hours north of Birmingham, two and a half from Nashville, and about three hours south of Indianapolis. It’s not near any major airport, so you’ll need to factor in some driving time at some point.

Where to Stay in Santa Claus

Next, you’ll need to know where to stay. Several hotels are within a 20 mile radius of Holiday World , but I would highly recommend staying at the Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort. Our stay there was included in our trip, but it cannot be beat for convenience and proximity to the theme park.

Lake Rudolph has the perfect cabins for families visiting Holiday World.

We stayed in one of their brand new Holiday Cottages that sleeps 5-7, has a fully furnished kitchen, AC/Heat, a full bathroom, Wifi, 2 flat screen TVs with cable, and a screened in porch! Our cottage was a fantastic place to come back to at the end of a long day at the parks.

Sarah’s Tip: Staying at Lake Rudolph has perks like a free shuttle to and from Holiday World, mini golf, and other fun activities.

Fun for Kids in Holiday World

After securing your lodging, plan to research what’s fun for kids . My girls’ favorite section was Christmas. Rides in Santa Claus Land have a maximum height of 54″. My girls loved being tall enough to ride without mom and dad!

Kid friendly playground at Holiday World

Their second favorite area was 4th of July. There is a small splash pad, kiddie coaster, and other rides for small children. Caroline probably rode the kiddie coaster four times! Other favorite attractions included Gobbler Getaway (Thanksgiving), Turkey Twirl (Thanksgiving), and Scarecrow Scramble (Halloween).

Grown Up Fun in Holiday World

Adults can also have fun in Holiday World. If you are a coaster fan, do not miss Thunderbird. It’s quite a hike from the front of the park back to this ride, but it is SO worth it. It’s the only steel coaster in the park, and the ride is exhilarating from start to finish.

I am not a huge fan of wooden coasters, but Neil rode The Raven and I rode The Legend, and, while we both agreed that we are getting too old for those, they are great, classic coasters. Fans of other classic rides will enjoy the Halloswings, Rough Riders (bumper cars), and the Liberty Launch.

What to Do in Splashin’ Safari

What about the water park? Y our a dmission to Holiday World includes admission to   Splashin’ Safari . It has so many activities for families to do as well. We rode rides, swam in the wave pool, climbed the play areas, and relaxed in the lazy river. My biggest tip for this area is to rent a locker for the day. Lockers are $15 for all day rentals and can be opened and closed them as many times as needed.

Splashin Safari park view from high atop a water slide.

Sarah’s Tip: No-Ad SPF 4 5 Sunscreen is offered freely throughout Splashin’ Safari and Holiday World. Lather up because there isn’t a ton of shade in Splashin’ Safari!

What to Eat in Holiday World

Lastly, let’s discuss food. W ith a few exceptions for special needs and infants, food and drinks are not allowed in Holiday World . However, we found the food to be just fine, and our drinks were free! All soft drinks, including lemonade and Gatorade products, are free with paid admission. This was a huge perk for us. On our first day, we ate at The Alamo (Mexican style food, obviously).

Up close view of guacamole on tacos at Holiday World

It was one of the better theme park meals I’ve had. The rest of our dining included standard fare like hamburgers, pizza, and chicken nuggets. Furthermore, there are allergy friendly and gluten free options in different areas of the park. Check the guide map to plan for your family’s dietary needs.

Overall Value

To sum it up, Holiday World was a great experience for us. The park was clean and the staff was friendly.

Sarah’s Tip: Purchase your tickets online ahead of time. You’ll save your family $20 before you even hit the road! In addition, Holiday World offers free parking and free Wifi in their parks. I would highly recommend Holiday World as a long weekend trip for your family.

12 Tips For Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari

Hi, guys!  Today I’m talking all about tips for Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari.    A trip to Holiday World tops our Summer Bucket list every summer (and now it tops our Fall Bucket List with their Happy Halloween Weekends !).

I can remember visiting Holiday World as a little girl with all my cousins.  This was back when there was a petting zoo, back before there were any roller coasters, and back when Splashin’ Safari only had a handful of attractions.  I’ve been on school trips, on Girl Scout trips, and, of course, with family.  I’m a Holiday World “lifer” if there ever was one!

Over the past 30 years I have seen the park grow and change into this amazing place that people travel from all over to visit!

Why Holiday World?

Holiday World is awesome, no question about it.  Not just because its nearby (for us), but because it offers so many things that other amusement parks don’t!

Here are just a few of the reasons we love Holiday World:

  • Free Parking (even free electric vehicle charging)
  • Free Sunscreen (SPF 50)
  • Free Drinks (soft drinks, Gatorade, lemonade, and water)
  • Cost of Admission gets you into Holiday World AND Splashin’ Safari
  • Free use of life jackets & inner tubes in Splashin’ Safari
  • Free package pickup (buy something at the gift shop and pick it up on your way out instead of carrying it through the park all day)

Tips For Holiday World

Tips For Holiday World

1. check the schedule.

First and foremost, check the Park Hours page to see if there are any special events happening on the day you are planning to visit.   The main reason I mention this is because in the late Spring, before summer break hits, the park is open, but all the rides and/or restaurants are not.  Generally, the price reflects the number of attractions that are open. So,  if you notice a dip in the price you may want to look into it.  Don’t get me wrong, you will still have a lot of fun!  I just think it’s best to know ahead of time.

Also, if you go when school is still in session (May) you run the risk of there being a zillion busloads of school-aged kids there on a field trip.  Again, not horrible, but not ideal either!

2. Stroller/Wagon

A stroller or a wagon is A MUST if you have young kids.  If you don’t want to haul yours to Holiday World you can rent one when you get there.  They have both wagons and strollers available for rent.

My kids are just past the “stroller stage” but we still rent one because having someplace to put all your bags is so nice!  I mean, sure, you can totally rent a locker and not have to worry about it, but it is really nice to have all your stuff with you at all times.  Plus, every once in a while one of my kiddos is “too tired to walk” and I would much rather push them around for a bit than listen to the complaining halfway through the day!

We keep everything with us all day.  The only things of value that I have are my phone and my money and I keep both of those in my pocket, so I’m never concerned about anything getting stolen.  Everyone parks their wagon/stroller at the entrance of the rides and picks them back up when they are done.  It’s just sort of what everyone does.  I’ve never had an issue with theft, but again, I don’t leave anything of value unattended.

3. Bring Your Own Thermos/Cup

One of the amazing things about Holiday World is that they offer free drinks all day.  They have paper cups available, however, it’s nice to have your own spillproof cup (that you can put in your wagon).  Also, bringing your own cup is much more environmentally friendly.

4. Water Protection for Phone

Whether it’s a water ride situation or protection in the water park, you definitely want to have some way to keep your phone dry.  Plastic bags (think Ziploc) work just fine, but they also make a waterproof case that works great and you can even take pictures underwater.

holiday world and splashin safari hours

5. Start in the back

You want to get the most bang for your buck by getting to the park when it opens.  The only problem is…everyone else is doing that too!  So, what happens is that all the rides towards the front of the park are super crowded.

What we have been doing the past several visits is walking all the way to the back of the park as soon as we get there.  It isn’t easy telling the kids we will ride things later as we pass them, but the lines aren’t long at the back of the park early in the day.  Also, the lines throughout Holiday World are very short in the afternoon because everyone is in Splashin’ Safari.

Definitely think about how you want your day to go, but also be open to making a change when you get to see the lines.

The only rides that almost always have a long line are the water slides in Splashin’ Safari.  It’s very hard to find a time when those aren’t crowded.

6. Military Discount

Holiday World offers a pretty great military discount !  Show your military ID and get $19 off each ticket (up to 8 tickets).

Not only do they offer military discounts, but they offer discounts for first responders, nurses, foster families, and more!  Check it all out here !

7. Wet clothes

Bring something to put your wet clothes and towels in to keep them from getting all your other stuff wet.  It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or expensive.  In fact, a plastic grocery sack works great!

8. Single Rider Lines

As I mentioned, long lines for the water slides are unavoidable.  HOWEVER, if you are open to riding by yourself you can take advantage of the single-rider lines.  Your wait is usually shorter (like WAY shorter), which is awesome!  The only downside is that you won’t get to ride with your friends/family, but honestly, how big of a deal is it?  Stand in line 15 minutes and ride with strangers OR stand in line an hour and sit behind your friend?

Holiday World

9. Extra Clothes

It’s a good idea to pack a set of extra clothes (In addition to the clothes you wear into the park).  If you ride Frightful Falls, Raging Rapids, or stop by Holidog’s Fun Town you will be thankful you have something dry waiting for you!

Oh, and don’t forget your own towels!

10. Phone Find

Phone Find is a great service for anyone visiting with young kids.  Phone Find is a bracelet for your kiddo that has your phone number on it.  If you and your child get separated a Holiday World employee will be able to contact you via the number on the wristband.

Whether you use Phone Find or not, it’s a good idea to have a meeting place and/or show your child what a Holiday World staff uniform looks like in case he/she needs help.

11. Parent Swap

Ever heard of Parent Swap?  If two parents are wanting to ride a ride that their child isn’t quite old enough to ride OR decides they don’t want to ride once they get to the front of the line, Parent Swap allows one parent to ride the ride while the other parent stays in the queue. Then, when the first parent exits the ride, the parent in the queue is able to ride.

Holiday World explains it a little more eloquently here .

12. Shoes on hot concrete

In Splashin’ Safari there are a ton of fun things to do, however, it does require a bit (a lot) of walking and a lot of waiting in lines.  Make sure you have shoes you don’t mind getting wet.  Also, don’t wear your most expensive pair of sandals either.  There is usually a long line of shoes at the entrance of each water ride.   You can wear your shoes/flip-flops between attractions but can’t wear them on the slides.   I’ve never experienced theft or heard of anyone having their shoes stolen while they were on a ride, but why risk it, ya know?

So there you have it!  All of my tips for Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari!  I’d love to hear your thoughts or any new tips you might have.  Please leave them all in the comments below!!

Two Holiday World & Splashin' Safari attractions honored in USA TODAY/10Best awards

SANTA CLAUS, Ind. — Holiday World & Splashin' Safari is once again featured in the USA TODAY/10Best's reader poll for having one of the best roller coasters in the nation.

The Voyage was named as the seventh-best coaster, according to the results of the poll announced Wednesday.

A wooden roller coaster, the Voyage treats riders to 24.3 seconds of weightlessness and has one of the steepest drops of any wooden coaster in the world, according to the park.

It also holds the world record for having five underground tunnels along its 6,442 feet of track.

The Voyage was selected as one of 20 finalists by a panel of experts, and then that group was narrowed to 10 by the public. Readers voted from March 25 through April 22.

Splashin' Safari also honored in USA TODAY/10Best

Splashin' Safari was named the sixth-best outdoor water park in America.

The winning description from USA Today notes the Mammoth , the park's massive water coaster, as one of the best offerings for thrill-seeking families.

The water coaster can take up to six passengers over multiple drops.

According to the Splashin' Safari website, the 1/3-mile water coaster is certified by the Guinness World Record s as the world's longest water coaster.

Holiday World to debut gravy-themed roller coaster this weekend

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana, is debuting a brand new ride opening weekend.

The park will unveil its "Good Gravy" roller coaster to the public on Saturday, May 11. Doors open at 10 a.m.

Click here for the full Holiday World calendar and hours.

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari President & CEO, Matt Eckert said there was a need for a roller coaster every family member could all ride together.

"They want to ride coasters, they're just not quite tall enough to ride The Raven, we needed something for them," Eckert said. "We needed a family coaster and it's important for us to make those family coasters accessible for everyone in the family. So grandma and grandpa, mom and dad, and uncles, sisters and brothers, they can all ride this together."

Holiday World first announced its plans for the $10 million gravy-themed roller coaster in Summer 2023.

Holiday World's first family roller coaster is a 1,500-foot wild ride to save Thanksgiving dinner. Guests will board a train shaped like a giant gravy boat that will travel up a seven stories before being pulled backwards, narrowly avoiding giant kitchen utensils like a 20-foot-tall whisk and an 18-foot-tall rolling pin.

The maximum speed for the ride is 37 miles per hour and there is a 38-inch height requirement, so children as young as three years old can ride along with the whole family.
