Intrepid extends 18-29 range up to those aged 35

Intrepid Travel has extended its range of trips aimed at 18- to 29-year-olds to travellers aged up to 35, to cater to demand from those in their early 30s for its youth tours.

The range of small-group tours had already been expanded for Gen Z and millennial travellers, with 15 new trips added for 2024.

The additions include the nine-day Essential South Korea, Six Days in Iceland, and One Week in Morocco.

They have been designed with younger people’s interests in mind, including more free time for travellers to explore on their own and more active experiences.

Intrepid said it has seen more enquiries from travellers in their early 30s wanting to join Intrepid’s young adult trips, and its consumer research showed most customers aged 18 to 35 prefer to travel with those of a similar age.

The responsibli tourism specialist said it has seen a “strong appetite” for the product, with UK sales up 64% in January, compared to January 2023.

Hazel McGuire, UK general manager for Intrepid, said: “We’re seeing strong demand for our youth-focused trip range, particularly through trade partners.

“Young people are no longer looking for the large groups and party-packed nights of the past.

“They want climate-conscious, authentic experiences that allow them to connect with local communities.”

Intrepid's new 18-29 trips provide new options for young travellers

Intrepid has launched a new range of more than 80 trips exclusively designed for 18 to 29-year-old travellers.

The company has seen a growing demand for its style of sustainable, immersive local experiences, with global sales up 17% last year. The 18 to 29 age group is a key demographic fueling this growth, with a 7% increase in departures last year among them.

$99 deposits available

Priced at the same level as Intrepid’s Basix range , Intrepid Group CEO James Thornton says the new 18 to 29s range provides a socially conscious generation with a stress-free alternative to backpacking and big bus tours.

The company will be offering $99 deposits on its 18 to 29s trips.

“Sustainable travel doesn’t have to be expensive,” said Thornton. “This age group will increasingly influence travel trends. Their buying decisions can help to reduce demand for activities like visiting orphanages or riding elephants.”

Intrepid has partnered with Friends-International, a leading social enterprise saving lives and building futures for marginalized young people around the world. Intrepid will make a donation to Friends-International for every 18 to 29s trip booked.

Geckos Adventures are no more

The introduction of the new range of trips means that Geckos Adventures , which was originally a competitor to Intrepid’s Basix range but has been managed by the Intrepid Group since 2013, will cease to exist.

"It doesn’t make sense for us to compete with ourselves – we’d rather be creating great travel experiences and doing more good in the world," Thornton said. "That’s why we’ve decided to combine the two brands, so that we can focus more on the things that matter to us: our travellers and our investment in sustainable travel.”

From October 1, 2018 all Geckos Adventures tours will become Intrepid Travel’s 18 to 29s trips. Intrepid’s range will offer 20% more departures and new trips to destinations such as Iceland and Russia for 2019.

Thornton says that the decision to merge Geckos into Intrepid 18 to 29s makes sense.

“We know this is the right decision. Intrepid has four times the number of 18 to 29s travellers as Geckos. It’s a global brand, whereas Geckos is almost entirely sold in Australia. “Focusing the power of our global brand on the youth market is just another way that we can invest in sustainable travel for the long-term. Intrepid has a much bigger audience and this decision means we can have better conversations with 18 to 29s about the things that matter.”

A new study finds travelers under 30 years old consider the ethical impact of their trips more than any other age demographic

intrepid 18 29 tours

With tours priced from $335 per person and up, the company will also be offering $99 deposits on all of its 18-to-29s trips, making sustainable and ethical travel more accessible to a younger demographic while providing this socially conscious generation with a stress-free alternative to backpacking and big bus tours. Highlights from the brand new tours include a seven-day camping trip in Iceland, a nine-day tour in Egypt that includes a cruise along the Nile River and an eight-day trekking trip to Machu Picchu in Peru.

“Sustainable travel doesn’t have to be expensive,” said James Thornton, CEO of Intrepid Travel. “This age group will increasingly influence travel trends. Their buying decisions can help to reduce demand for unethical activities like visiting orphanages or riding elephants.”

Results of a new study commissioned by Intrepid Travel revealed that travelers under 30 consider the ethical impact of their trips more than any other age demographic, at 76%. The survey of 2,000 North American travelers, conducted by OnePoll, confirmed that sustainable and ethical travel options are increasingly important considerations for millennials, with other significant findings from the research including:

Millennials expect travel companies to offer socially-conscious travel options:

  • 86% of 18- to 29-year-olds consider it important when booking a trip for a company to offer sustainable travel options.
  • 90% of 18- to 29-year-olds consider a travel company's commitment to ethical travel important when booking a trip.
  • 18- to 29-year-olds are the most likely demographic to think that travel companies have a greater responsibility to provide sustainable experiences.
  • The two things 18- to 29-year-olds consider the most important when booking travel are affordability (52%) and knowing their travel dollars are supporting local communities (51%).
  • 86% of 18- to 29-year-olds are willing to spend more on their travel if it meant the experiences included were completely ethical.
  • The main reason why 18- to 29-year-olds would book a holiday with the same company they've already traveled with is that they felt like their dollars were put towards a truly local and immersive experience.
  • 58% of 18- to 29-year-olds would spend more on their travel if they knew their money was going into the local communities they're visiting, compared to just 32% of travelers aged 51+.
  • 77% of 18- to 29-year-olds say that sustainability impacts their decision to travel, compared to 48% of travelers aged 51+.
  • 43% of 18- to 29-year-olds believe it is important that a company focuses on environmental and social causes they care about, compared to 32% of travelers between the ages of 41 and 50, and 17% of travelers aged 51+.

Intrepid Travel has been a carbon-neutral company since 2010, has led the industry on animal welfare by being the first global tour operator to ban elephant rides, and has taken a leadership position on child protection by removing orphanage visits from its itineraries. Every Intrepid tour supports local communities by using local transportation, employing a local tour leader, and staying and eating at locally-owned businesses. In August 2018, the company became the world’s largest travel B Corporation, a certification that represents Intrepid’s commitment to using its business to create a positive impact for both people and the planet.

In line with Intrepid’s pledge to double donations to projects that help marginalized youth around the world, the company has partnered with Friends-International, a leading social enterprise saving lives and building futures for young people. The company will make a donation to Friends-International for every 18-to-29s trip booked.

Traveling the world is an exciting adventure, but for many, it can be a stressful experience. Worries of safety, navigation, and tackling language barriers can be enough to put off many travelers, especially if you’re considering going solo.

Intrepid has been operating small group tours for over 30 years and is one of the major leaders in the industry. You can choose from over 1,000 tours to 100 destinations, selecting the comfort level that suits your budget and travel style. You’ll be guided throughout your journey — right from the point of booking — with advice on visas , currency, and other essential trip information .

Intrepid has been a fully carbon-neutral company since 2010 by investing in projects that actively reduce CO2 emissions. So you can feel safe in the knowledge that you’re traveling as green as possible while embarking on your adventure. Intrepid small group tours usually accommodate up to 16 people but tend to have an average of around 10.

Solo Travelers

Intrepid Solo Travel

Most of us have been in a situation where we’ve been desperate to go traveling, but none of our friends or family are in the position to go with us. You’re then left with the dilemma of going it alone or missing out on the experience altogether. Thankfully, that’s where a small group tour can help.

Even though you’re traveling solo, you’re never really alone on an Intrepid tour. There are rarely single supplement rates as you’ll buddy up with another traveler of the same gender. Of course, you still have the option to upgrade to your own room if you would like to.

Friends or Groups

Intrepid Friends and Groups

Joining a tour with a group of friends is great if you like the idea of spending time with them while also being open to mixing with other people. No one likes being the organizer, so joining a small group tour eliminates the pressure from 1 person having to book everything and manage payments. You’re all equal participants on an Intrepid tour.

Intrepid Family Travel

If you’re traveling with children under 17 , you’re welcome to join a family tour. Let someone else do the organizing and navigating so that you can enjoy the experience of traveling with your family . An Intrepid family tour can be a fun and educational experience for your child and can help them gain confidence by interacting with new people.

Hot Tip:  You might have a long flight or some lengthy road trips to contend with. Prepare yourself with some entertainment by checking out the best podcasts and audiobooks for travel .

If you’re on a budget or believe that a hotel is simply somewhere to rest your head for the night, a Basix Tour could be for you. This tour style focuses on simple accommodation (such as camping or homestays) and lots of free time, so you’re not spending money on excursions that you have no interest in.

Original Tours combine tourist-class accommodation (2- to 3-star hotels) with local and private transport. There’s a blend of planned excursions and independent exploration , suiting those travelers looking for a balance between guided local knowledge and free time.

Comfort Tours feature more comfortable and unique accommodation with more frills than the Basix and Original Tours. Private transport is used throughout, and these tours run at a slower pace with exploration and activities usually led by a guide.

Intrepid Travel Tour Themes and Destinations

18 to 29s tours.

18 to 29s Tours

As the name suggests, these tours are specifically for those that fall into the 18- to 29-years-old age bracket and tend to cover the highlights of a destination with lots of free time. With around 10 people per tour, there are plenty of opportunities for making friends , while also allowing you to explore independently if you prefer.

Hot Tip: Contiki is a similar tour company that caters to young travelers in a similar age bracket —  18 to 35 years old. Some tours can accommodate much larger groups, upwards of 50 people. Read more about the tour types and destinations in our Contiki review !

Adventure Cruising

Intrepid Adventure Cruises

Adventure Cruises accommodate less than 50 passengers  so the ships can explore places that large cruise liners can’t reach. Groups are large enough to socialize with various travelers but are small enough to feel that your arrival on land doesn’t swarm a destination impacting that local experience.

Hot Tip: Our ultimate cruise vacation packing checklist helps ensure that you have everything you need to be dressed for any occasion.

Cycling Tours

Intrepid Cycling Tours

Cycling Tours are an excellent way to enjoy the journey and the destination , peddling along with incredible views and authentic encounters. Each tour has a physical rating , so you can determine whether the trip is right for you, and includes a tour leader and support vehicle.

Hot Tip: If you’re an adventure seeker, you’ll want to pack all of the essentials for your next active vacation.

Family Tours

Intrepid Family Tours

Family Tours consist of family-friendly activities and accommodation mixed with flexible free time. Your tour leader will be specifically trained in family travel with groups accommodating 3 to 5 like-minded families.

Intrepid Food Tours

Food Tours will give you a true flavor of some of the world’s most famous culinary destinations . Discover fresh food markets and local restaurants, or try your hand at a cooking class.

Lonely Planet Experiences

Intrepid Lonely Planet Tours

Intrepid has partnered with Lonely Planet to provide exciting tours for adventurous and independent travelers. Seek out the mountain gorillas of Uganda or ride the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto. You’ll have a knowledgeable local leader and can read all about the destination before your trip with 12 months of free access to the Lonely Planet app .

Hot Tip:  Tours often include a fair bit of walking to see the sights, so you’ll need a good pair of hiking boots or shoes .

Polar Tours

Intrepid Polar Tours

They may be polar opposites, but the Arctic Circle and the Antarctic have 1 thing in common — they’re both incredible destinations. Look out for polar bears and the Northern Lights in the Arctic and kayak among breaching whales in the Antarctic. Exploration ships have modern amenities , and expert leaders hold interesting seminars and guide travelers on exciting excursions.

Hot Tip: One of our writers sailed to Antarctica on a trip booked through Intrepid .

Intrepid Retreats

Retreats are short breaks that could be just a short drive or flight from your home, where you live and explore as the locals do . All retreats feature 1 accommodation, so you’ll only have to unpack once with all your free time spent immersing yourself in the local community rather than traveling.

  • Includes transportation, accommodation, and excursions

India Tour

India captivates many visitors with its thriving culture, historical sights, wild beaches, and wildlife. The busy cities and sometimes intense atmosphere prevent many from venturing to India independently, and taking a tour can alleviate the pressure . Peru Tour

Hike within the Andes to reach Machu Picchu — the most well-preserved archeological site for ancient Incan civilizations. Vietnam Tour

All who visit Vietnam are blown away by its natural beauty . Watch farmers harvest rice from the colorful fields or sail around the towering limestone rocks of Halong Bay. The powdery white beaches of Phu Quoc Island are glorious, and wondrous waterfalls and caves make for fantastic photo opportunities. If variety is what you’re after, that is exactly what you’ll get visiting Vietnam. One minute you’re negotiating swarms of motorcycles crossing the road in Hanoi and the next your rafting peacefully down the rivers of Ninh Binh.

Hot Tip:  Find out the best ways to fly to Vietnam with points and miles . Currently, there are no direct routes from the U.S. to Vietnam, but with Vietnam Airlines recently receiving the required Air Carrier Permit, this could be on the horizon.

Price-wise, both operators are pretty much on par with each other , but if you are comparing a similar itinerary, do check what inclusions are featured as some Intrepid packages include more bang for your buck than G Adventures.

Travel insurance is mandatory when traveling on an Intrepid tour, and your tour leader will need to see documentation before you set off. Although Intrepid doesn’t offer travel insurance, it recommends booking through World Nomads .

Intrepid recommends that your travel insurance covers you for:

  • Medical expenses and emergency repatriation
  • Personal liability
  • Cancellation
  • Curtailment
  • Loss of luggage and personal effects

Hot Tip:  Don’t get overwhelmed with the variety of travel insurance options available! We’ve created an ultimate guide to buying the best travel insurance to help simplify the process. You may also have travel coverages and benefits offered by your credit card .

While it’s unlikely that you’ll find Intrepid Travel promo codes on third party websites, Intrepid does frequently feature offers for specific destinations or tours that need a push. Frequently Asked Questions

Is intrepid travel a good company.

Intrepid Travel is well-reviewed across many of the major review sites. Most recently, many customers have taken to these sites to negatively review Intrepid’s cancellation and refund policy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. But overall, the actual tours are highly reviewed.

Where is Intrepid Travel based?

Intrepid was founded in Australia and has offices in Melbourne, Toronto, London, and New York.

Which is better, Intrepid or G Adventures?

Intrepid Travel and G Adventures are very similar in their product offerings, both offering a wide range of destinations and tour types. Intrepid has over 1,000 tours to over 100 counties, so it does exceed G Adventures’ 700 tours, if range is a factor.

Price-wise, both operators are pretty much on par with each other, but if you are comparing a similar itinerary, do check what inclusions are featured as some Intrepid packages include more bang for your buck than G Adventures.

Are flights included in Intrepid Tours?

Flights are not included in the tour prices you see on the Intrepid website, however, you can book your flights through Intrepid. If you book your flights independently, you need to make sure you arrive in time for your welcome meeting on the first day of your tour.

What age group travels with Intrepid?

All age groups are catered for with Intrepid. 18-29s Tours and Family Tours are the only types that come with age restrictions; anyone else is free to join the other tours. Children over the age of 15 are permitted on most tours, provided they are accompanied by an adult over 18.

G Adventures vs. Intrepid Travel: Which Operator is Right For You?

intrepid 18 29 tours

Thinking about booking a world-class tour but hitting a roadblock when choosing between two operators who offer seemingly similar trips? Both  Intrepid  and  G Adventures  have spectacular selections of tours to choose from, but how do you choose between them? Here’s a side-by-side glance at both operators.

Group size, age requirements and travel styles

Both operators offer a variety of trips that adhere to different travel styles.

G Adventures  offers tours to independent travellers aged 18 and up. There are no upper age limits on most tours, but they do have YOLO tours that are restricted to 18 to 39-year-olds based on the nature of activities appropriate for that demographic.

Their Family Adventure travel style has tours available to families with children aged 5 to 17. All other trips (with the exception of YOLO) are open to kids aged 12 and older when accompanied by a parent. The average G Adventure tour has 10 people on a tour but allows a maximum of 15.

G Adventures also has a partnership with National Geographic (called National Geographic Journeys) and offer trips that can be considered premium excursions. These trips offer more inclusions, interactions with local experts, comfortable accommodations and transportation options as well as smaller group sizes.

Intrepid   also allows travellers under the age of 18 on their tours, so no worries about having to leave your 15-year-old sister behind on your Euro-trip.

Similar to G Adventures, Intrepid offers Family Adventure styles of travel that have a range of minimum ages depending on the destination and level of difficulty. While most trips are available to travellers 15 years old and up, all travellers under the age of 18 must have an adult accompany them.

Intrepid does have a youth-orientated trips called 18 to 29s, which is similar to G Adventure’s YOLO tours in that the tours are available only to 18 to 29-year-olds and are budget-friendly. Other than the 18 to 29 tours, there is no maximum age limit on most tours.

The average Intrepid tour has 10 travellers but allows up to 16 on overland trips but most max out at 12 people. They have some trips that allow up to 24 travellers. Intrepid offers a premium travel experience with their brand  Peregrine , similar to G Adventure’s Nat Geo Journeys, for travellers who aren’t restricted by a budget.

Physical requirements

Both operators offer tours that have stricter physical demands than a typical trip.

G Adventures  offers many tours under the umbrella of their Active travel style. These trips vary from trekking to the top of Kilimanjaro, rock-climbing, dog sledding, cycling through China’s countryside and more.

You’ll absolutely need to be in good shape to have the best time possible on these types of tours.

Intrepid  has their Cycling and Walking & Trekking travel styles that offer tours that require you to be in good physical shape. You can expect to be working your muscles every day on one of these tours!

While Intrepid’s Overland trips don’t focus as heavily on constant physical activity, they do recommend that you are reasonably fit in order to fully participate in this trip style.

Accommodation

G Adventures  rarely have a mandatory single supplement while  Intrepid  steers clear of them entirely.

For solo travellers, both companies will typically match you with a traveller of the same gender to share your room with.  The standard of accommodation will vary with both companies depending on the type of trip you decide to take.

For example, nearly all tours will include air-conditioning and heating but if you’re travelling to a rural destination or a homestay you should adjust your expectations for the facilities.

Transportation

Both operators provide a variety of transportation options based on the trips.

G Adventures and Intrepid use a combination of private buses and public transit to get you where you need to go.

In most cases with G Adventures, you’ll be using public transit but both operators offer very similar transportation options.

Most of Intrepid’s Overland trips have vehicles that come with their own power supply so that you able to recharge your devices on board.

Destinations

G Adventures  and  Intrepid  offer tours to the following locations:  North America ,  Latin America ,  Polar Regions ,  Central America  &  the Caribbean ,  Europe ,  North Africa ,  the Middle East ,  Africa ,  Asia ,  Australia  and  New Zealand

Intrepid  and  G Adventures  go to many of the same destinations but Intrepid has a larger selection of tours on all continents.

G Adventures  is slightly more affordable for budget travellers with their average price per day sitting at roughly USD $220 .

They keep costs low with the use of exclusions. While their trips always include the highlights of a destination they also leave out some activities you’d considered “can’t miss.” You’ll pay for that separately in addition to the listed tour price.

Intrepid   can be considered slightly more expensive as their average  price per day costs approximately USD $245 . Why the slight spike in pricing you ask? Intrepid’s tours generally have activities included in your tour price.

There are many factors that affect the price of accommodations, which either increase or decrease the price of the overall trip. With G Adventures you’ll likely find cheaper rates in their South America destinations and with Intrepid, the same can be said for their Southeast Asia trips. Travellers should compare individual trips to ensure the best price.

Intrepid Emphasizes Young Adult Travel, Expands Age Range to 18-35

intrepid young adult trip vietnam

Canoe adventure in Vietnam. Photo: Intrepid

Intrepid is emphasizing young adult travel by expanding the age range and offering the popular group new, curated tour options.

The tour operator previously set its young adult travel groups at ages 18 to 29 but has just expanded the age range up to 35. The company now offers more than 50 small-group tours across the globe for 18- to 35-year-olds.

"We had direct feedback and inquiries from early 30s travelers asking if they could join these groups. This has been going on for several years," Matt Berna, president of the Americas at Intrepid, told TMR. "The trips are slightly different from our standard trips, including more free time and more value for their money."

Travelers in their mid-20s were Intrepid's most popular age group for many years, Berna explained. But that group has now aged into their early 30s, and the tour operator now sees that most customers are around 30 to 33 years old ("before families and mortgages," Berna said) or in the 65+ category.

After years of folks in their 30s asking to join the young adult group tours, Intrepid embarked on a year-long process of surveying both current and prospective customers in their 20s and 30s about their travel habits and how they felt about changing the age range to include folks ages 30 to 35.

Intrepid found that people in their 20s and early 30s have the same travel interests and want to travel with each other. The majority of Intrepid's customers are solo travelers, and about 65% are women, so having an 18-to-35s small group option brings security that a traveler won't be the only young woman in a group of retirees, for example.

"Especially with solo travelers, there is the worry that they will not be put into the right group for them, or it won't be the right experience," Berna explained.

Intrepid also found that their young adult customers want active experiences, value for money, and unique connections on their trips. This year, Intrepid has added 15 new tours to its list of more than 50 options for 18-to-35-year-olds.

Active experiences  Trips such as the 15-day Epic Everest Base Camp Trek or the eight-day One Week in Costa Rica offer active experiences in nature for young adults. The max group size for these trips is 16 people. Young travelers are "there to be in this group environment and be more adventurous," Berna noted, making trips like these ideal for the age range.

During the Everest Base Camp Trek, travelers hike the world's most famous mountain, visit the National Park Museum and the Thyangboche Monastery, and embark on a sunrise walk on the final day. For the Costa Rica trip, there are opportunities for hikes, bicycling, cooking classes, and more.

Intrepid's young adult trips tend to have fewer inclusions and more add-ons, giving travelers flexibility to venture out in their own free time if they choose.

Value for money  To give young travelers more value for their money, Intrepid offers shared basic accommodations that place two travelers of the same gender in one room. Travelers can pay an additional fee if they do not wish to share a room.

Intrepid also offers more value – and authenticity – to its young adult trips by including home stays and homecooked meals within the destination, as well as utilizing public transportation and overnight trains, such as on its Essential Vietnam trip.

Unique connections   "Young adult travelers are looking for meaningful connections. They're not as concerned or looking for big party trips or touristy experiences," Berna said. "They want spontaneity, and they want to feel their trip was truly unique."

To give this genuine experience to its travelers, Intrepid has local guides leading each of its tours, such as on its Essential South Korea trip. Much of it is walking tours led by a local leader covering an array of pop culture, cuisine, nature, and more. South Korea is an especially popular destination for young people right now, with the rise of K-Pop and K dramas in the West.

Intrepid Travel Logo.

What is Intrepid Travel?

In 1988, two friends, Darrell and Manch, were traveling with friends in a truck in parts of Africa when they came to a realization. They realized that more people would enjoy traveling while minimizing impacts by talking to many travelers. That kickstarted the tour operator  Intrepid Travel .

Apart from presenting a travel itinerary, Intrepid Travel also guarantees their customers a responsible travel experience with them. In order to ensure responsibility while traveling, Intrepid Travel has partnered up with many global and local funds and organizations like Blue Carbon Lab and Eden Reforestation Project.

Intrepid Travel has its own foundation, which funds initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and work towards a sustainable future.

How does Intrepid Travel work?

Intrepid Travel has a simple and user-friendly interface. You could insert basic information and get a ready-made travel itinerary or have a trip tailor-made based on your preferences.

Readymade trips

Once you visit the Intrepid Travel website, you can search for itineraries based on your choice of destination and the date of travel. Intrepid Travel will provide you with a range of options to choose from based on the information provided. These options vary from  Premium, Best of,  to  Classic , etc.

Alternatively, you could also select from various styles and themes and find ready-made trips. In order to look for themes, you have to click on the  Ways to travel  option on the panel at the top of the website. These themes include 18s to 29s, Active Adventures, Adventure Cruising, Cycling, Expeditions, Family, Festivals, Food,  Lonely Planet  Experiences, Polar, Retreats, Sailing, Short-Breaks, Urban Adventures, Walking and Trekking, and Wildlife.

Intrepid Travel destination and tour search bar.

Personalized trips

Travelers using Intrepid Travels can also select tailor-made trips from the themes section. In this, you can flexibly choose when and where you want to go and what you want to do because the ready-made itineraries from Intrepid can't be altered.

You would be traveling with local leaders or travel guides from any travel themes or styles. They will guide you on everything and even deal with the logistics of traveling. With their extensive knowledge of local culture and environments, you will surely get an immersive traveling experience. The help of local leaders also makes group travels easier.

How old do you have to be to travel with Intrepid?

If you are traveling without adult supervision, you have to be 18 years of age or above. Styles of travel include Premium, Comfort, Original, and Basix. Depending on the style, the provision of services varies, but you would still get the basic services, though.

Although there aren't any readily available promo codes from Intrepid Travel, they almost always have deals on their website. If you aren't looking to travel anytime soon, you can check the discounts available on the website. If you are making some late plans, you can choose to look at the last-minute deals they have to offer.

What we like about Intrepid Travel

  • Ready-made packages

Intrepid Travel makes your trips so much easier. Choosing from a specific style and/or theme is the best part of this. It allows you to select a trip that is to your liking and within your budget. The intersection of the style and theme gives you even more options. What's even more remarkable is that all the destinations, accommodation, food, and transportation are arranged for you as you reach your destination.

  • Personalization

The thing with ready-made packages is that they don't have flexible arrival and departure dates. If you're someone who needs that freedom in traveling, tailor-made packages are just the thing for you. Even if you are the one who's deciding things, you wouldn't be the one spending time getting things together. Intrepid Travel and its local leaders will do everything for you.

  • Responsible travel

Responsible travel includes less carbon footprint, respect towards local cultures, and support for local communities. Your use of Intrepid Travel would contribute towards funding grassroots organizations, initiatives, and local communities. After all, responsible traveling isn't just where you'll be going; it's also on you as an individual traveler. Intrepid Travel adheres to COVID guidelines and ensures your safety.

While you aren't required to have travel insurance, Intrepid Travel will recommend travel insurance services, like World Nomads ,  if you think it's something you would like to have.

What's not-so-great about Intrepid Travel

  • Complaints on service

Intrepid Travel doesn't have a lot of bad reviews. But, we came across some complaints about low-quality accommodation, unreliable local guides, and poor service. Some negative reviews spoke of Intrepid Travel's delay/failure to process refunds during the pandemic. As always, it's important to know that no service is perfect, and there could be issues occasionally.

Compared to traveling solo, heading on a group tour with companies like Intrepid is a bit more expensive because most travel logistics and planning are arranged for you. Also, when you travel with a group, there's a higher chance of spending on extra "group" activities. However, you may not necessarily enjoy all of them. In this regard, we think it's better to  backpack  solo if you are quite a seasoned traveler.

Is Intrepid Travel Worth It?

Most of the past users have left satisfying reviews of Intrepid Travel. We also recommend it to travelers that want more out of your travel experience. We believe what they're offering is a great way to explore the world while maintaining a positive impact on the places you go!

You also have many other choices like  G Adventures ,  EF Ultimate Break , and  Under30Experiences  for guided group tours. So, do consider these options before you pick one!

Our Rating: 4.6/5

  • Tours that makes a positive impact
  • Responsible travel (low footprint)
  • Great tour packages
  • All Inclusive
  • Few complaints on quality of the tours
  • Slightly expensive

Girl dancing at the Taj Mahal

Bucket list itineraries

Sure, you can travel to India to see the Taj Mahal, but we like to share a laugh with a local chai wallah in the market while we’re at it. Our trips include loads of big-ticket attractions as well as plenty of unique and unexpected experiences you can only have with a local guide.

Leader talking to two travellers in Egypt

Legendary leaders

The best folks to show you around are the ones who live there. Our local leaders know these destinations like an old friend, so get ready to eat at the best street food joints, get to know the culture in depth and experience things you wouldn’t be able to on your own.

Traveller in Iceland sitting in a National Park

Creating positive change

We're on a mission to create positive change through the joy of travel. That’s why all our trips are carbon offset, and we give back to the communities we visit with the help of The Intrepid Foundation. When you travel with us, you travel with purpose.

Felucca full of travellers

Small groups

With an average group size of 10 people, our groups are big enough to create a good vibe but small enough to blend in with the locals. Whether you’re travelling solo or with mates, you’ll really get to know your group and will never be stuck for someone to grab a drink with.

Group of travellers cheers drinks in Budapest

Great value

Want big-time experiences without the big-time price tag? Our 18 to 35s travel style means staying in simple, well-located accommodation, taking local transport and enjoying tasty local food. This way, you choose where your spending money goes.

Getting ready to zipline in Cambodia with full safety gear

We’re committed to ensuring our trips are safe for everyone, including our travellers, our leaders, our crew and the people we visit along the way. That’s why we’re always up to date with world events and changes. Rest easy – you’ll be well taken care of.

Highlights of our 18 to 35s trips

A group of travellers on a rowing boat along the Mekong in Vietnam

Venture through Vietnam

From the old-world streets of Hanoi to bustling Ho Chi Minh City – and all the temples, motorbikes and banh mi in between – adventures await in Vietnam. On this epic adventure from north to south, we’ll get you chomping and slurping pho-nomenal food, kayaking around Cat Ba island (away from the tourists), cycling through rice paddies and crossing the hectic Vietnamese roads like a local in no time.

A traveller standing below Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, India

Ticking off European favourites including Berlin, Krakow, Prague and Budapest – this is the Central Europe trip you’ve dreamed about. Enjoy dinners in busy medieval squares, explore stunning hilltop castles and sleep in ridiculously Instagrammable towns that look like they belong in a fairy tale.

18 to 35s trip reviews

Is every trip guaranteed to run.

Our trips are guaranteed to depart once they have one fully paid customer, unless the minimum group size listed in the Essential Trip Information and/or Special Conditions state otherwise.

Do you cater for food allergies/dietary requirements?

We’ll try our very hardest to accommodate all dietary requirements, but it can be difficult to guarantee in some out-of-the-way places. We'll let you know if there are places on your itinerary where this is the case. Please let us know your dietary requirements at the time of booking and we’ll pass the information on to your leader.

What’s the standard of accommodation on an 18 to 35s trip?

You’ll be staying in simple, well-located accommodation with shared amenities, though it's common for rooms to be ensuite. Rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. We pair up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender as per the gender marker on each of their passports.

If your gender identity differs from what is indicated on your passport, please contact us so that we can discuss rooming options with you. If you'd like your own space, most of our trips also have the option to pay a fee for an individual room.

Will the accommodation have Wi-Fi?

Most hotels, cafes and bars have Wi-Fi, especially in big cities and towns. In remote places (like the Sahara and the Amazon Rainforest) or on treks or homestays, you won’t be able to access Wi-Fi or mobile data as easily. Your leader will give you a heads-up beforehand so you can call home or send a quick WhatsApp.

Your leader can also help you buy a local SIM card if you'd like to stay connected.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

You sure do. Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips if you’re travelling internationally. Your leader will take down your insurance details on the first day in case they are needed during the trip, so make sure to bring your policy documents.

Learn more about travel insurance .

Do I need any travel vaccinations?

Vaccination requirements differ depending on the destination, and as we’re not medical practitioners, unfortunately we can't advise on this issue. Please see your local GP or travel doctor for details and advice about current vaccination requirements.

Learn more about entry and health requirements for the destination(s) you’ll be visiting .

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine to join an 18 to 35s trip?

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Meet our local leaders

Intrepid leader, Nhi Pham

"When you travel with me we'll be hanging out with the locals, tucking into the best street food and trying to master Vietnamese pronunciation (FYI, it's hard!). Whatever we do, we'll laugh a lot and make amazing memories together. Pack your best smile and count on me for the rest – I'll be your local buddy."

- Nhi Pham, Vietnam

Intrepid leader, Paul Garrido

“It will be a pleasure to share our traditions and beliefs, take you to the most amazing sites and, most importantly, interact with the locals! Get ready for a behind-the-scenes tour where we’ll visit hole-in-the-wall restaurants and find the best picarones (Andean doughnuts) *chef’s kiss. I’ll be waiting for you here, in my beloved Peru.

- Paul Garrido, Peru

Intrepid leader, Huyen Nguyen

"You might come to Vietnam for the beautiful scenery, but you'll stay for the friendly people! I love introducing travellers to locals and having a chit-chat, going on spontaneous walks to explore the hidden spots and sharing stories to keep our beautiful culture alive."

- Huyen Nguyen, Vietnam

Travel for good

We strive to use travel as a force for good. That's why every Intrepid trip is aligned with a relevant partner through The Intrepid Foundation and a donation is given for every trip booked. You can see which partner is aligned with a trip in the Essential Trip Information under ‘The Intrepid Foundation’.

Learn more about The Intrepid Foundation

We've got trips to suit every adventurer – no matter your budget, interests or travel style. If you can't travel on an 18 to 35s trip, you can always book a seat on one of our other trips, which are open to all ages!

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .
