THE JAMES HUNTER SIX IN CONCERT: Whether he's touring with luminaries like Aretha Franklin and Van Morrison or headlining shows with his talented sextet, acclaimed British soul singer and bandleader James Hunter is an electrifying performer known for his powerful pipes and on-stage energy. At his live performances with The James Hunter Six he lights up the stage, tearing through original material and red-hot soul covers with a fiery intensity that makes the old feel new.  His R&B-influenced brand of vintage soul is perfectly complemented by his talented bandmates, who add sax, drums, keyboard, and double bass to the mix with razor-sharp precision. Whether they're channeling soul classics or grooving through cuts from 2013's Minute by Minute, The James Hunter Six always wow ticket buyers with their undeniable chemistry and phenomenal musical chops. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT: Essex-born James Hunter grew up listening to his grandmother's '50s rock and soul records and plucking out tunes with his guitarist brother. By his mid-'20s he was playing gigs around the country, and in the early '90s he was spotted by Van Morrison, who enlisted him as a backing singer on several tours and albums. Morrison described Hunter as "one of the best voices and best kept secrets in British R&B and soul", and by the early '00s Hunter was enjoying a solo career of his own while at the same time acting as bandleader for Howlin' Wilf & The Veejays. He signed a deal with GO Records/Rounder and in 2006 released the album People Gonna Talk, a critically acclaimed collection that earned him a Grammy nod for Best Traditional Blues Album. His 2008 follow-up The Hard Way was equally well-received, peaking at No. 1 on the US blues chart and getting a glowing review from Rolling Stone, which called the album "unbelievably awesome". Since then he has continued to set the groove with The James Hunter Six, transporting fans around the world with rollicking performances of vintage soul and blues.

James was great! And his band as well. All the fun sounds and rhythm you anticipate from his enthusiastic performances. This guy is original and a very talented musician. He is fun snd amazing! Full house and crowd lived them!

The James Hunter Six put on a fabulous show with a nice mixture of blues, rock and some nice jazzy moments. If you haven’t see this group, you are missing one of Britain’s real gems. Can’t wait for the new album.

James Hunter is an extrordinary performer!!

This was my first concert at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and I really enjoyed the intimacy and convenience. James Hunter is such a talented performer and I always walk away from his concerts with a smile. It is evident that he and his band love to entertain.

Great show! Went to this event without knowing anything about James Hunter Six and what a wonderful surprise. A terrific group of 6 musicians who clearly enjoyed playing for the audience. So glad we got to see this show and will look forward to seeing them their next time around. Thank you James Hunter Six.

The James Hunter Six exceeded my expectations

I have been meaning to see James Hunter and his band for awhile. They did not disappoint. They were tight, and energetic. Their delivery of dynamic intensity was much appreciated. James was in fine voice and he displayed a cool English working man stage presence. The two man horn section was even more mesmerizing in person than on CD. Tenor and Bari blended perfectly.

Absolutely Rockin'

For those not familiar with James Hunter, I strongly suggest getting one of his albums and, if you're lucky, go see him in person. This was my second concert, and he did not disappoint. Blues, soul, rock and a little jazzy at times. What a great performer. What a great band: The James Hunter Six. I have all his albums, including his new one, which is fabulous.

I have seen James Hunter several times in small venues here in Northern California where I live in San Francisco and Sacramento. I love blues and old rhythm and blues music. James Hunter is an over the top, outstanding performer. They say that the late, great James Brown was the hardest working man in show business. Well, James Hunter is right on Brother Brown's footsteps. The man is a non stop raw bundle of energy delivering a scintillating show! That powerful husky voice of his can go from a smooth, beautiful sounding Sam Cooke type to a hard driving James Brown type. He works that old Les Paul Custom to death with great riffs. The band is so spot on and plays TIGHT from the two swinging alto and baritone saxophones alternating to please the ear of any music afficianado.tlThen you have a fantastic bass run from a good old upright cello type bass augmented by an iconic Hammond organ that accents and pulls all of that fantastic music that this band generates. You will be mesmerized by these lads just as I was. They are the consummate showmen.

Saturday 17th November, Under the Bridge, London, The James Hunter Six. It’s a rock and roll Saturday night in West London. Despite my loathing of the football club that this venue stands beneath I have to begrudgingly respect the fact that it’s actually a very good venue. It’s a nice size with plenty of viewing areas and state of the art sound and light.

Playing tonight in support of his latest album on Daptone ‘Whatever it Takes’, The James Hunter Six combine double bass, organ, drums, two saxophone brass section and Hunter on lead guitar. I don’t think it’s the line up from the album but what a great band nonetheless.

They rattle though the ninety minute set with each member of the band getting time to shine, especially the brass section and organist but let’s not forget the rhythm section too tonight who keeps the soul train on the tracks.

Hunter could be described as a journeyman performer who is finally finding some deserved acclaim, especially so since his signing to Daptone a couple of years back. He combines soul, rhythm and blues and old fashioned rock and roll with that fine voice that incorporates his trademark high end howl to great effect.

The set is taken from across his catalogue including some great covers none more so than the Larry Williams track ‘Bony Moronie’.

Highlights though for me include the oldies ‘People Gonna Talk’ and ‘No Smoke without Fire’. The new songs fit well in the set and more than hold their own with the old classics.

If you are looking for a great night out with some great soulful rhythm and blues and a bit of a boogie then you can’t go wrong with the excellent Mr Hunter

I pride myself on the shows I’ve seen ,over my many years, and all genre’s of music. I can honestly say that James Hunter and his Six put on one of the best shows i’ve ever been too. From the second he hit the stage to the final note of his encore the man killed it. He even stayed after the show to glad hand and sign swag for us fans. Very well done Mr. Hunter. Very well done indeed.

Grammy-nominated blues artist, James Hunter, has recorded some of the most original and honest rhythm and soul albums of the last two decades.

His gritty, soulful voice and electrifying live performances can be heard amongst his up-tempo, swinging RnB as James Hunter Six.

In the early ‘90s, Van Morrison recruited Hunter to sing backing vocals on the road touring and on two albums. In the years to follow, Hunter opened shows for Aretha Franklin, Etta James, BB King, Willie Nelson, and Tom Petty, and headlined clubs, theatres, and festivals across the world.
