Pandemic leaves Asia’s tour operators scrambling to reinvent

To diversify or not to diversify has become less of a luxury and more of a necessity for tour operators across Asia, as the travel halt spurs them to forge new money-making roadmaps.

joy paradise travel

• Squeezed by fiscal woes, travel providers across Asia turn to diversification • Revenue from pivots stands in stark contrast to tour sales, but proving a lifeline in uncertain times • Pivots poised to outlast pandemic, say agents

From selling produce to providing proxy shopping services, these innovative pivots in the face of the pandemic are raking in vital income, while at the same time, surfacing long-term growth opportunities.

For South Korean agency, Trazy – Travel Crazy Korea, it has opted to cast the net wide, offering since March a diverse range of services such as proxy shopping, food and grocery deliveries, as well as interpretation and translation.

Kristine Um, co-founder and CMO at Trazy, said those diversifications came about as the pandemic paused travel, adding that it was a breeze to pivot into these fresh revenue streams as they already had the basic infrastructure and skillsets in place, not to mention the necessary platforms to market these services to their target customers worldwide.

Though she declined to reveal income numbers, Um let on that these services are “gaining some traction, leading to actual sales”. A quick browse on Trazy’s website show that their food delivery service has grabbed some 2,600 eyeballs, while their proxy-buying service which ships internationally have been checked out by nearly 4,000 users.

Trazy’s staff leverage the agency’s social media platforms to plug their pivots, including their proxy shopping services. While foreigners may not be able to travel to South Korea during this time, via Trazy’s proxy shopping service, they are still able to snag everything from popular Korean snacks to Starbucks Korea’s coveted Cherry Blossom collectibles.

Um said the bulk of their customers hail from South-east Asia – Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines – and North America, with a smattering of Europeans.

As well, the agency is offering food delivery services in select cities across the country, targeting foreigners seeking to skirt the hassle of conversing in Korean and the complex Korean payment system. More recently, the agency has rolled out translation and interpretation services, facilitated by its English and Korean bilingual staff.

Over in the Philippines, eco-tour operator MAD Travel has started the MAD Market, an online marketplace that sources from local farmers and SMEs, while delivering fresh produce to doorsteps across metro Manila.

“This new service came about when people in the metro were searching for means to have fresh fruits and vegetables delivered to their doorstep. So, we did what we’ve always done – bridge farmers and communities to guests – just this time, through an online delivery market instead of tourism,” said MAD Travel co-founder Rafael Dionisio, adding that the initiative partners 60 farmers, four small businesses, and 10 market vendors.

“At the MAD Market, we’ve started selling some of the produce from our partner communities – earning them income critical at this time. We plan to continue our MAD Market even when travel bounces back as it’s another channel to pump up village economies and engage even more tribes and communities.”

Additionally, MAD Travel has expanded their online social enterprise courses, which were first started in 2019. These online courses offer experiential learning to students by connecting them with social entrepreneurs, explained Dionisio.

“With travel currently off the agenda for most schools around the world, we had to rethink our approach to service learning by ensuring experiential, inspiring and thought-provoking experiences without compromising student safety,” he said.

“We do this through virtual tours, where students will have authentic interactions with local communities and social entrepreneurs which broaden horizons and enhance understandings of what constitutes impactful service. Once travel lifts, we plan to fuse online and on-ground learning.”

Already, their pivots are bearing fruit. Since its April launch, the MAD Market has chalked up more than 600 orders, while the agency is catering custom-made online courses to over a dozen school partners.

Dionisio said: “We have already begun running programmes with international schools and universities in Europe and South-east Asia, especially for our existing partners.”

“Fortunately, we have in our team foreigners who are equally passionate about the Philippines, and this enables us to connect to new markets in Australia, France, Malaysia and the UK, to name a few.”

For Japan-based Joy Paradise Solution, the pandemic saw the Malaysian tour agency pivoting to commercial food exports. Its co-founder, Dominic Teh, said the idea was born when a movement control order (MCO) disrupted the travel plans of their returning Malaysian clients, who began asking the agency to send some Japanese goods their way.

He said their export business which launched in March has since grown from word-of-mouth and social media publicity including livestreams, and the company now has a distribution warehouse in Osaka. The firm’s main markets for its exports are Malaysia and Singapore, but it also services customers in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China, according to Teh.

The company exports mainly food items like Japanese instant ramen, and Calbee’s breakfast cereals and snacks, but also Japanese anti-virus products like surgical masks and sterile hand sanitisers that have become coveted commodities in the pandemic’s wake.

Teh claimed that their products are sold at lower prices from those found on the local online market. Moreover, he noted, there is a shortage of food items across Asia due to supply chain disruptions, and that they ship their goods by air, the swiftest mode of transport.

Building on that demand for Japanese goods, the company has recently started pushing Japanese luxury watches to its Malaysian clients, citing a surge in interest from local watch enthusiasts.

Silver, long-term lining to coronavirus

The short-term downturn may have thrown up long-term growth prospects, with tour operators adopting a far-sighted perspective in their pivoting strategies, even as they tackle short-lived headwinds posed by the pandemic. As businesses are driven to pad up their portfolios, reinventions made in light of evolving realities could prove long-lasting, including a greater focus on e-commerce and virtual experiences.

For MAD Travel, Dionisio said that the agency’s diversifications form part of its long-term strategy, and are poised to outlast the pandemic.

“Through offering virtual tours, an online marketplace and, eventually, on-site tours once more, we hope to be able to support communities in different ways. They are actually part of a long-term plan to diversify our income streams, and also to support our communities in a more holistic manner,” he said.

“All our plans are flexible or can be done online as we don’t know how long it will be before people feel comfortable to travel again – and that’s a big part of what we considered with our strategy.”

That deeper dive into virtual engagement has necessitated the reskilling of their workforce, which may very well be a linchpin to thrive in a new normality.

Dionisio elaborated: “For online education, we are focused on training the travel team to market virtual experiences instead of on-site ones. The team learning how to become teachers and facilitators online is a challenge. After all, what works in person doesn’t necessarily work online.”

Also thinking long-term is Teh, who stressed that the seven-person company plans to continue its newfound venture even after travel resumes, especially since business has grown by 30 per cent over the past two months. “At most, we will hire more staff to continue maintaining this business,” he said.

On the other hand, Um said it remains to be seen how long her company’s pivots will persist, as uncertainty abounds.

Still, she sees a silver lining amid the Covid-19 cloud. “(These pivots are) a way to see things in a new perspective. Perhaps, it may be a great opportunity for us to expand and diversify our business,” Um said. “We’re at a stage where we’re trying to increase awareness (of our new services) so as to provide something beyond the travel industry.”

Short-term losses, long-term gains

Though agents reported that the revenue from their pivots so far pale in comparison to their tour sales, they claim that it is still vital income nonetheless.

Teh called the company’s export sales a “far cry” from its pre-pandemic tour business income, matching only 10 per cent of the former. But he said that the earnings are helping to cover their losses during the MCO period, especially given Japan’s high living costs.

Likewise, Dionisio shared that MAD Travel’s pivots are raking in merely 20 per cent of the agency’s travel revenue before the crisis hit, but declined to reveal the actual numbers.

Still, he is optimistic about the future outlook of the market. “In times like these, 20 per cent is plenty, and much better than zero. It has allowed us to keep parts of the company operational, in a world where most travel companies are at zero. We think that we can get back on track within a year,” he said.

Looking ahead, both Dionisio and Teh reported that this diversification of revenue streams feeds back into their core travel business.

Dioniso said: “Long-term, we see that the education programme can feed into the travel programmes, and that the online marketplace allows us to continuously connect with customers before or after they travel.”

Similarly, Teh said that the company’s export venture has raised awareness about its main tour business. He added: “We tap into new markets for our export enterprise. Occasionally, we will also distribute some tour vouchers with our products, so more people come to know that we are in the travel business. This is to pave the way for our future recovery.”

Margaritaville at Sea passenger files lawsuit saying she was raped in Bahamas hotel

joy paradise travel

  • A passenger on a Margaritaville at Sea cruise is suing the cruise line’s parent company Classica Cruise Operator claiming she was sexually assaulted by an employee of the hotel booked by the company.
  • The hotel has a history of sexual assault allegations, and the cruise line was liable to warn about and protect passengers from the hotel’s “dangerous conditions,” said the lawsuit.
  • This is the latest in a string of sexual assault incidents involving Margaritaville at Sea cruises.

A Margaritaville at Sea passenger is suing the cruise line’s parent company Classica Cruise Operator claiming she was sexually assaulted by an employee of the hotel booked by the company, according to the lawsuit filed last week.

The hotel has a history of sexual assault allegations, and the cruise line was liable to warn about and protect passengers from the hotel’s “dangerous conditions,” said the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

“We want to make people aware,” Alex Perez, the passenger’s attorney from the maritime and admiralty law firm Lipcon, Margulies & Winkleman, P.A., told USA TODAY. “These things happen in foreign ports. I know you’re on vacation but you have to be careful. This can help people make informed decisions.”

The passenger, named “Jane Doe” in the case, is a Missouri resident who went on a two-day cruise from West Palm Beach, Florida, to the Bahamas and back in August 2023.

According to the complaint, Classica had arranged for the passenger to stay at the Viva Fortuna Beach by Wyndham, located in Freeport in the Bahamas because the ship did not have cabins available for her.

The lawsuit states that the passenger left her room at night to get water when an employee forced her into the control room of the resort’s theatre, locked the door and raped her.

This isn’t the first allegation of rape at the Viva Fortuna Beach by Wyndham. In 2016, a TripAdvisor user who went to the resort to get married wrote a review saying she was gang raped by staff when a security officer opened her door while her husband was out. The general manager had responded to the review by saying the resort takes “allegations of violence very seriously.” The investigation hit a dead-end when no evidence was found.

Resort employees have a “practice” of encouraging alcohol to the guests “with a motive to sexually assault and/or rape them if they became vulnerable,” according to the complaint.

“Prior to the subject incident, (Classica and Wyndham) knew or should have known that the resort was not reasonably safe and/or employees at the Resort had a proclivity for sexual misconduct,” the lawsuit said. However, Classica neglected to warn the passenger or provide her with security during her stay there.

Margaritaville at Sea and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts did not respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.

Jane Doe is suing the resort for damages for the physical injuries and pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, “mental anguish,” “loss of enjoyment of life” and medical expenses among other things she experienced from the assault.

The lawsuit will help “prevent any of this happening to anyone else,” Perez said. “That’s step No. 1. I’m not here to make the cruise lines look like the bad guy. I have a sister, a mother, there’s women in my life, and I don’t want anything like this to happen to someone.”

This is the latest in a string of sexual assault incidents involving Margaritaville at Sea Cruises. Last year, two women aboard the Margaritaville at Sea Paradise cruise ship said they were raped by a bartender who snuck into their room at night, ultimately impregnating one.

All About Joy Behar's Daughter Eve Behar

Joy Behar and her ex-husband, Joseph Behar, welcomed their daughter Eve in 1970

joy paradise travel

Joy Behar and her daughter, Eve Behar, are supportive of each other's pursuits.

Eve, The View co-host’s only child, whom she shares with her ex-husband Joseph Behar, was born in New York on Nov. 26, 1970.

While Eve lives a largely private life, she has shared photos and messages about her daytime talk show host mom over the years. In a Mother’s Day post shared on Instagram in 2020, Eve posted a hand-drawn portrait of her son Luca kissing Joy on the cheek.

“Happy Mother’s Day to my mom and all the rest of us bad asses,” she wrote. “Dog moms, goat moms. Etc. everyone who helps raise the young ones. Nannies, friends, aunts.”

Eve, who was 11 when her mom tried out stand-up for the first time, has opened up over the years about her experience watching Joy succeed as a comedian.

“She did pretty well pretty fast,” Eve said in Joy Behar: Left Front Center , a 2010 CBS News Sunday Morning special about her mother’s career. “I think once she made the decision, she said, ‘This is it, I’m going for it.’ ”

Here's everything to know about Joy Behar's daughter, Eve Behar.

She grew up in Queens, New York

Michael N. Todaro/Getty

In 1962, Joy married a college sociology professor and author named Joseph Behar, and they welcomed Eve on Nov. 26, 1970, in New York.

During her big city childhood, Eve managed to connect to nature and animals, according to her website .

“In Eve’s early years, she was lucky to live next to Forest Park and loved exploring what seemed like deep woods even though Queens Boulevard was right there,” her biography explains.

She was 11 when her mom pursued stand-up comedy

 Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic

Joy and Joseph divorced in 1981 after 16 years of marriage, and Joy started her comedy career soon after.

Before embarking on her new career path, Joy was a high school English teacher who worked with kids “who’d had an entanglement with law enforcement,” according to a 2022 TIME profile .

"It was difficult,” Joy told Parade in 2010 about balancing her new career and motherhood. “I felt conflicted. But I was broke after my divorce, and at 39, I got fired from my day job."

She continued, "When I look back, I don't think I would do it if I knew all that I had to go through. But I didn't know what else to do to make money. Also, my mother was still alive, so Eve had always her as a back up babysitter. Eve's father was there [too]."

She was 12 when Joy met her now-husband Steve Janowitz

Carolyn Contino/BEI/Shutterstock

Joy waited 29 years to wed Steve Janowitz, a middle school math teacher. The couple started dating in 1982 but didn’t officially tie the knot until Aug. 11, 2011.

Joy and Eve have consistently lived near each other, and Joy shared in a 2009 interview that they were living in the same New York City apartment building and would routinely get facials and pedicures and go shopping together.

In 2015, Joy and Janowitz purchased a home in Sag Harbor, New York, the same Long Island village where Eve and her family live.

“I started with a small, very modest house in Sagaponack,” she told Behind the Hedges about her real estate ventures in 2021. “Then to a ‘less modest’ house in East Hampton.”

She worked as a TV producer before becoming a ceramicist

JP PULLOS/Patrick McMullan via Getty

Eve dabbled in the entertainment industry before becoming a full-time ceramicist. In 2000, she was an associate producer for 10 episodes of the TV series Strangers with Candy , which starred Stephen Colbert , Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris.

Her current role as a ceramicist in Sag Harbor was a passion that sparked early on in childhood. “With tremendous family support, trying all different forms of art from drawing to dance to acting, when Eve came upon clay, it was a done deal,” her biography reads.

She took ceramics classes all over the city during and after graduating from CUNY Hunter College, even while working as a television producer. In 1995, she moved to Florence, Italy, to study at the Studio Art Center International, where she received a post-baccalaureate degree in ceramics, painting and art history.

In 2001, she became a full-time student at the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Oakville, Canada, where she spent three years dedicated to her craft. At the end of her tenure there, she earned the best in show award at the school’s graduate show of 2004.

By 2016, Eve was named the gallery director at Celadon Clay Art Gallery in Bridgehampton, New York, and she has taught and served as the president of the Clay Art Guild of the Hamptons.

Joy has shared that her daughter comes from a long line of creatives. “Eve’s grandmother on her father’s side was an artist, and my uncle on my father’s side was an artist, so it’s in the genes,” she said in a 2019 interview.

She got married in 2007

After living in Canada for three years, Eve returned to New York and married physician assistant Alphonso Anthony Scotti at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City in 2007, per The New York Times .

Two years after Eve’s wedding, Joy expressed her sentiments about becoming a grandmother someday.

“I presume it will be a lot easier when I'm a grandparent because I won’t have full-time duty,” she said. “I mean, people always say ‘if I knew this was going to be so good, I would’ve had grandchildren first.’ ”

She became a mom in 2011

“Luca is 8 months old. He’s extremely brilliant,” Joy told Anderson Cooper on his talk show Anderson Live in 2011. “He says various things: Mama, Dada, E=MC².”

"It's just like you're in love again,” she continued. “You know when you're first in love with a guy, and you're running towards each other in slow motion. You just can't get enough of each other. It's like that, only it's your baby.”

In November 2020, Eve posted an Instagram series showing photography her son worked on for her.

“My 9 yo wanted to help me with some photography- turns out he is a real pro AND he used some photo editing program to jazz up a few images,” she captioned the post. “I have to pay him in Robux though.”

Eve is also a mom to her dog, Jack. In May 2024, she shared a series of photos on Instagram that concluded with a “bonus reel of Jack loving live!"

Days of UAE Culture will be held in the Russian Capital

F rom June 28 to July 2, Days of UAE Culture will be held on Manezhnaya Square—one of the central locations of the "Summer in Moscow" project. Citizens and tourists are invited to learn more about the country's attractions, traditional attire and cuisine, partake in henna painting, and explore an exhibition of paintings and photo displays.

The program is organized by the UAE Embassy and the Government of Moscow. It will be part of a cycle of events held on a reciprocal basis within the framework of bilateral cooperation, said Deputy Mayor Natalia Sergunina.

"Partnership relations between our countries are developing in many areas, including tourism. In 2023 alone, more than 42,000 travelers from the UAE visited Moscow—eight times more than the previous year. This trend continued in the first quarter of 2024—we are again recording growth. We invite everyone to Manezhnaya Square to see the exhibitions and musical performances, participate in master classes, take photos in front of art objects, and try popular Arab delicacies," announced Natalia Sergunina.

According to her, guests from the United Arab Emirates are attracted by the centuries-old Russian culture and the abundance of parks and museums. Gastronomy, which combines the cuisines of different peoples of the world, is also particularly popular. Most often, travelers from the UAE come to the capital alone (34.2%) or with a partner (23.8%). They choose comfortable hotels: about a quarter of them stay in five-star hotels (23.4%).

"We express deep appreciation and joy regarding holding the UAE Culture Days in the very center of Moscow, on Manezhnaya Square. We were very eager to host the event in this iconic place, on this beautiful square. This historical area is considered one of Moscow's most beautiful tourist spots. Our goal was to introduce the friendly Russian people to the culture and heritage of the UAE. We strongly believe that culture serves as a bridge between peoples and societies. The cultural event will be held over five days, during which we will try to showcase the true national heritage of the Emirates through folk performances by national art groups, a demonstration of an ancient Emirati wedding show, a falconry show, an engraving exhibition, henna pattern drawing, and an exhibition of antiques and folk crafts. Visitors will also be able to taste Emirati coffee and popular Emirati dishes. In addition, visitors to the event will be able to purchase traditional Emirati goods, and there will also be an opportunity to take memorable photos in a specially equipped photo zone. Cultural exchange between our two friendly countries has reached a new and qualitative stage, as there is an increasing flow of UAE citizens coming to Moscow for tourism, expressing their admiration and interest in the culture, art, history, as well as various customs and traditions of the friendly Russian people, which is why many of them have already made multiple visits to your beautiful country. Moscow is considered one of the attractive tourist destinations for tourists from the Emirates. Taking this opportunity, I would like to thank the Government of Moscow for their cooperation and support in successfully holding this important event for us and wish everyone to enjoy their visit, " noted His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Sultan Essa Al Jaber , Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation.

Moscow is an important tourist destination not only in Russia but also internationally. In 2023, the foreign tourist flow amounted to 23 million people, most often coming from China, India, CIS countries, and the Middle East. To strengthen international ties, the capital participates in major specialized exhibitions, organizes business missions, and organizes projects and events aimed at an international audience.

I stayed in 2 of Arizona's top hotels. They explain why Scottsdale is a luxury travel hot spot.

  • Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, Arizona, offer luxury travel experiences.
  • The vast majority of hotel rooms in both Phoenix suburbs are upscale.
  • I stayed in the area's top-rated hotels, the Phoenician and the Hermosa Inn. They epitomized luxury.

Insider Today

Secret exits, private outdoor spaces, high-tech golf carts, dramatic chandeliers, award-winning restaurants , and cowboy artifacts — I saw them all during my trip to Scottsdale without leaving my hotel.

Tourists travel to Arizona for luxury resorts, spas, and golf clubs, Condé Nast Traveler reported in 2023 .

Scottsdale , in particular, draws affluent travelers with its health and wellness scene, upscale dining experiences, and top-tier golf courses. So, it's no wonder the area caters to high-end travel.

Scottsdale has more luxurious hotel rooms than standard ones — 80% of the city's 12,500 rooms are classified as luxury level or higher (upscale and upper upscale), according to a Scottsdale tourism report published in 2022 in partnership with Experience Scottsdale , a travel company that has helped establish the city's luxe tourism reputation.

The only place in the area with a higher concentration of luxury accommodations than Scottsdale — 90% of rooms — is Paradise Valley, the wealthier suburb between Phoenix and Scottsdale.

But tourists see Paradise Valley as a part of Scottsdale, according to the report — probably because the towns are close together and offer comparable pampering experiences and jaw-dropping views.

I recently spent two nights in Arizona and booked one night in each suburb's top luxury hotel.

I spent my first night at the Phoenician in Scottsdale , a luxury Marriott Hotel dubbed "Arizona's leading resort" in the 2023 World Travel Awards .

On day two, I headed to Paradise Valley to stay at the boutique Hermosa Inn , which Travel + Leisure called the best hotel in Arizona in 2023.

These similar superlatives made me think the Phoenician and the Hermosa Inn would provide comparable luxury experiences . In reality, the two hotels were completely different.

Still, both showed me why these Phoenix suburbs are hot spots for wealthy travelers.

In Scottsdale, I stayed at the Phoenician — an upscale mega-resort.

joy paradise travel

The multimillion-dollar luxury Marriott Hotel opened in 1988 and has been renovated several times to amp up its upscale offerings — most recently in 2018.

The Phoenician has 645 rooms on its 600-acre property at the base of Camelback Mountain. The gated hotel grounds are full of activities ranging from sports to relaxation. It's the kind of hotel with so much to do that guests could spend their whole vacation on the property .

In Paradise Valley, I stayed at the Hermosa Inn, a boutique hotel with a completely different vibe.

joy paradise travel

The vast majority of Scottsdale and Paradise Valley hotels have more than 50 rooms, making the wealthier suburb's 43-room Hermosa Inn a unique option for those seeking seclusion.

The Hermosa Inn isn't luxurious in a glitzy sense. Instead, it marvels guests by making them feel like they traveled to the 20th-century Western era.

Its roots as a 1930s cowboy's home and studio are evident upon arrival with adobe bricks, beehive fireplaces, historic artwork from paintings to silk, and artifacts like worn saddles and Stetson hats.

I thought the Hermosa Inn was ideal for travelers craving privacy and a personal touch.

joy paradise travel

The Hermosa Inn's 43 stand-alone casitas are secluded accommodations situated next to discrete exits. Guest service agent Tami Norton told Business Insider that the hotel often hosts celebrities and executives in the public eye, and its small size allows it to accommodate special, personalized requests.

For example, Norton noted a recent guest in town to perform.

"The hours they keep are quite different; they arrive back on the property late at night and need to sleep in during the day," she said of performers. "So that particular guest needed the room totally blacked out before they came. We blacked out everything from the skylight down to the glow of the thermostat."

AZ Central reported that Clark Gable, Whitney Houston , David Spade, and Tyrese Gibson have dined and stayed at the Hermosa Inn.

Norton told BI that actors often have strict dietary restrictions that the kitchen accommodates by ordering special ingredients and portioning them out with a scale. She added that guests can also request small appliances in their rooms for protein shakes and other quick meals.

Both hotels had upscale rooms with king-sized beds, large bathrooms, and private outdoor spaces.

joy paradise travel

My deluxe room at the Phoenician was filled with modern furniture with Southwestern accents. From the comfy bed and oversized tub to the balcony, the room epitomized 21st-century luxury .

While the Phoenician room was modern, the Hermosa Inn casita had a more traditional luxury brand.

joy paradise travel

At the Hermosa Inn, I slept in what was essentially a small house. It was easily the biggest hotel room I've stayed in.

Unlike the Phoenician, the Hermosa Inn's room didn't feel modern at all. The Southwestern vibe was all-encompassing, from the furniture to the decor. It felt more unique than the room at the Phoenician while boasting the same amenities, including a large tub and bed.

The Hermosa Inn room also had a beehive fireplace and a skylight. Rather than a balcony, the one-story accommodation had a private patio.

Both hotels housed renowned dining hot spots.

joy paradise travel

The high-quality dining at each hotel attracts more than just hotel guests with buzzy, award-winning restaurants.

Three of the Phoenician's eight dining venues and bars — Mowry & Cotton, J&G Steakhouse, and Thirsty Camel — have received kudos from Forbes Travel Guide, Open Table, and Trip Advisor, according to the hotel's website .

LON's, the Hermosa Inn's only restaurant and bar, is known by Food & Wine for its romantic vibe. It offers outdoor seating surrounded by vibrant gardens and beehive fireplaces. Open Table has included LON's in its roundup of the best brunch menus in the country for four years running.

The Hermosa Inn's restaurant added a wine cellar 20 years ago for ultra-VIP dining.

joy paradise travel

In its 2003 renovations, LON's upgraded its VIP offerings, adding a small dining room in an underground wine cellar and an exclusive tasting menu.

The Phoenician has also gotten several upgrades, including an award-winning, three-story spa with two pools.

joy paradise travel

With the most spas per capita in the US, according to Go Banking Rates , Scottsdale is a hot spot for health and wellness tourism .

The Phoenician is ideal for a rejuvenating trip thanks to its award-winning, three-story spa renovated in 2018.

The dramatic entryway greets patrons with an artistic chandelier and golden details throughout the spa. In addition to massage and facial treatment rooms, a sauna, and a meditation room, the facility has two pools — one on the rooftop — a nail salon, and a dry bar for hair styling.

There's also a fitness room where guests can work with a personal trainer.

The same hotel has five more outdoor pools, including one made of pearl tiles imported from Italy.

joy paradise travel

The massive Phoenician pool complex includes a splash pad and an adults-only pool.

But the most luxurious of the five is the serenity pool made of Italian Mother-of-Pearl tiles that cost $1 million, according to the company's website . The hand-placed tiles give the pool an iridescent shine similar to the inside of a sea shell.

The Phoenician Golf Club takes the upscale sport to another level.

joy paradise travel

I'm no golfer, but it's easy to see why those who play would stay at the Phoenician.

The 18-hole course and club, renovated in 2018, wowed me with views and high-tech features. Players rode around the pristine course lined with gardens and fountains against a mountain backdrop in golf carts with GPS screens that stream news and entertainment.

Whether you're looking for a private vacation or one where you don't have to leave the hotel, Scottsdale has it all.

joy paradise travel

After staying at both resorts, there was undoubtedly more to do at the Phoenician. I could see why travelers craving a mega-resort vacation where they don't have to navigate the city to have a good time would pick the Phoenician for their luxury vacation.

But the Hermosa Inn is a better choice for those desiring a unique and exclusive stay with large, private accommodations and plenty of personal attention.

If you stay at both, as I did, luxury travelers can have it all in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. That's why I think so many wealthy vacationers choose the Arizona hot spot for their getaways.

Connecting Cultures and Traditions

Love and Travel: A Match Made in Paradise

Love and Travel: A Match Made in Paradise

Travel and love are two of life's greatest pleasures. Together, they can create the most magical and unforgettable experiences. From discovering new places to exploring new cultures and cuisines, traveling with your partner can deepen your connection and create lasting memories. In this article, we will delve into the beautiful combination of love and travel and how it can enhance your relationship.

Introduction

There's a famous saying that goes, "Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer" and we couldn't agree more. Traveling allows us to break away from our everyday routines, step out of our comfort zones and open ourselves to new experiences. And when we embark on this journey with someone we love, it becomes even more special.

Exploring new places, tasting exotic cuisines, and creating unforgettable memories together can bring you closer to your partner and strengthen your bond. The excitement of discovering a new destination can reignite the spark in your relationship and take it to the next level.

Wanderlust and Love

Wanderlust, a strong desire to travel and explore the world, is a feeling that most of us can relate to. It's a thirst for new experiences, new cultures, and new adventures. And when you find someone who shares this same desire, it can be a match made in paradise.

Traveling with your partner allows you to learn more about each other, bond over shared experiences and create unforgettable memories. Sharing new and exciting adventures together can deepen your love and understanding for each other, creating a stronger and more fulfilling relationship.

Most Romantic Destinations

While any destination can be romantic with the right person by your side, some places just have that extra charm. Here are a few of the most romantic destinations that are perfect for a couples' getaway:

Hawaii, USA

With stunning beaches, breathtaking landscapes and a laid-back atmosphere, Hawaii is a dream destination for any couple. Enjoy a romantic sunset dinner on a private beach, go for a hike to a hidden waterfall, or simply relax and unwind in a luxurious resort.

Santorini, Greece

Famous for its stunning white-washed buildings, blue-domed churches and breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea, Santorini is a dream destination for lovers. Enjoy a romantic sunset cruise, wander through the picturesque streets hand in hand, or indulge in the mouth-watering Greek cuisine.

Paris, France

No list of romantic destinations would be complete without the city of love, Paris. Stroll along the Seine, visit the iconic Eiffel Tower, and enjoy a candlelit dinner at a charming Parisian bistro. Paris is truly a city for lovers.

Spice Things Up

Traveling can also be a great way to spice up your relationship and add a dose of adventure. Instead of the usual dinner and a movie date night, why not plan a romantic getaway with your partner? Whether it's a weekend road trip or a dream vacation, traveling together can bring new and exciting experiences to your relationship.

Try something new together - bungee jumping, hot air balloon ride, or even a cooking class in a foreign country. Break away from your routine and experience something new and unforgettable with your partner by your side.

Creating Unforgettable Memories

The memories you create while traveling with your partner will last a lifetime. From the breathtaking views, cultural experiences, and new adventures, these shared moments can strengthen your bond and remind you of the love you have for each other.

Think of all the stories you'll have to tell your friends and family back home - the time you got lost in a foreign city, the amazing local food you tried together, or the time you hiked to the top of a mountain for an incredible view. These experiences will become precious memories that you can always look back on and cherish.

Final Thoughts

Travel and love go hand in hand. The combination of adventure and romance can bring you closer to your partner and create unforgettable memories. So, why not plan a romantic getaway with your loved one and explore a new place together? It could be just the thing your relationship needs to reach a whole new level of love and connection.

Remember, travel is not just about the destination, it's about the journey and the people you share it with. And when that person is your partner, it becomes a journey of love and a lifetime of memories.

So, pack your bags, hold your loved one's hand and embark on an adventure filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments!
